Ambre Nuit by Dior is a Amber fragrance for women and men. Ambre Nuit was launched in 2009. Top notes are Bergamot and Grapefruit; middle notes are Damask Rose and Pink Pepper; base notes are Ambergris, Cedar, Guaiac Wood and Patchouli.

After three popular Dior Colognes (Bois d'Argent, Cologne Blanche, Eau Noire) presented as three unisex editions in 2004 by Dior, Ambre Nuit, a fragrance inspired by amber arrives on the market in 2009. The new, refined, bold and sophisticated cologne brings a passionate and sensual fragrant arrangement.

Ambre Nuit opens with bright and luminous fresh notes of grapefruit and sunny bergamot as an exciting overture to intoxicating Turkish rose combined with passionate pink pepper. Warm amber notes round up the whole composition and leave a seductive effect. Dior AMBRE NUIT is available as 250ml cologne.

Dear Ambre Nuit,

Besides of being kind of offensive,
there is something in you that gives me the vibes of fingernails scratching on a chalkboard.

And since I find each of your listed notes on one of my beloved scents, it has to be the combination, and that leaves me nothing but to come to the conclusion that

either there is a bad memory hidden in my subconscious,

or you are just a bad composition.

You are my very first "complete dislike" of all reviews I have given so far.

orpheusdream

Can you really trust reviews on Fragrantica are always 100% unsponsored and neutral? I've been starting to reflect more and more on this virtual ecosystem that we all find ourselves in. We rarely know about the true agenda behind a review we read online, or some Youtube-video review. Reading some reviews below really makes me think.

However, I find this a very nice fragrance. It's very 'perfumey'. It's not discreet, or polite at all. You will get noticed. It may even come off as intrusive. I would strongly advise to use it with moderation. No one likes to be overwhelmed in public by a stranger wearing too strong perfume.

I'm surprised many think this leans masculine. For me, it's more of a feminine rose-amber scent. Let's just agree this is perfectly unisex. There's definitely something soapy about it. Soapy and powdery. Which I like quite a lot. It's not sweet or sticky at all (it's not that type of amber). I think it's thanks to the rose, it has a certain freshness to it. Again, a very nice quality. Doesn't feel very natural. Again, it's very 'perfumey'. It belongs on some brightly lit, glossy marble shelf in the luxury department store. Not in the niche perfume boutique. This is not niche-quality. Regardless, it's very nice. Strong like, not a love.

Mellerouge

Gorgeous scent, but I’d prefer it on a man. Spicy amber-y.

ChiGurl

Stunning. That is the word that best describes Ambre Nuit. The pink pepper fused with rose and ambergris produce a spice that hints at a delicious cinnamon. It is subtle, not overpowering. I love it so much, I wear it year round, although some might prefer to reserve it for the fall and winter. It is personal aromatherapy at its best.

Filosykos

Managed to score a huge 250ml bottle for a great price. 2017 batch. All I can say is that after 6-7 months it's a very different fragrance now.
I own over 300 fragrances and never noticed a change like this in any fragrance I own.
Very refined very sophisticated and very luxurious.
You will be noticed. Performance is fantastic .
Evening scent only and leans more masculine.
Cant really pick out the rose , but there's a chocolatey ambery dustiness to it that is irresistible.

fragrance_fb

This is the perfect cold weather signature scent.

Soft, balsamic, spicy. Creates one of the most elegant and cozy scent bubbles. Never becomes too loud or too sweet.

You simply feel good with this fragrance. High quality and absolutely worth the €€€.

Comparison to 40 Knots:
There was an annoying synthetic note in the opening & a sweet-thick honey note in the drydown of 40 Knots. With Ambre Nuit you get a citrus-peppery start and a woody-balsamic-resinous drydown which I prefer.

AkselSvEn

good leaning feminime tbh but not too much. amber floral scent. if u want this just slightly more masculine id go for 40 kts

AnastasiaGostieva

It’s a lighter type of amber with refreshing spices and round floral notes. It’s not too heavy, but rather a soft comfort scent with light sweetness and woodiness underneath. Overall impression is great, but I couldn’t say that it’s something groundbreaking.

Nula

Why was this barely detectable fragrance ever green lighted?
Ambergris, oris, & a little clove.
I don't get it.
Maybe it's a poor batch, that happens.

stakasaki

My holy grail. I think about her every day and night. Don't come around me while I'm wearing it because I'll be sniffing my wrists nonstop like a freak.

XxRosexX

Smells like it was made for men. Anyone can wear it, but if I would have known this, I never would have bothered sampling this, because I have never enjoyed smelling men's fragrances. This smells more manly than some of the perfumes being marketed as being for specifically for men. I wouldn't bother unless you already wear other manly fragrances.

JonFA

This scent was a love at first sight for me.
A beautiful dance between contrasting notes that complement each other so well…

The opening notes are captivating and mysterious.
Right after spraying you’re taken by a very potent, yet elegant, note of ambergris that is beautifully contrasting with the top citrusy notes. A couple of minutes later the Turkish rose and pink pepper start to shine and they’re absolutely gorgeous alongside the ambergris. Sweet and involving without being too overpowering.

The first 2/3h of Ambre Nuit are the best in my opinion. After that the rose blends a bit more with the ambergris and woody base notes and it becomes a very pleasant sweet ambery/rose scent. No issues with performance… for me it still projects relatively well for about 7h if I apply it to well moisturised skin.

Recommend to anyone looking for a scent that is androgynous, powerful but yet very elegant.

noctivagantlibertine

This is the bowl of potpourri every upper middle class white person had in their living room in the early 90s. Hard pass from me, I find it excruciatingly feminine. I might like it better as a candle for Fall on a rainy day, but definitely not on my skin. Someone else's take as 'apple cider with rose petals dumped in' is spot on - for me the apple and cinnamon-patchouli is dominant, with a rose undercurrent. Not getting much citrus.

istvan.buda.779

Pretty scent but nothing that makes me wanna go and buy a full bottle

lessthanzero

Sort of the "type-species" for the Dior Privée line. All of the DNA of the line is visible in this perfume.

Very formal, but unpretentious and not "loud." Feels recognizably French - aloof and elegant. At the same time, there is a very "American" sleekness, sweetness, and brazen sexiness about it.

Peppery, floral, warm spicy, slightly salty and ozonic, woody, mineralic, make-up powdery, honeyed. It feels aldehydic, in the way that cinnamon powder in the air tickles your nose. The primary flavor and fragrance compound of cinnamon is of course cinnamaldehyde... I think that 90% of folks wouldn't be able to identify the floral components here as "rose" per se.

Much more feminine than masculine to me. A very nice blend of synthetic and natural materials. Not for me.

Emoody

It’s giving me a royal sip and see party for the newborn prince of Monaco vibes. I can’t stop sniffing my hand. The rose is a little bit sweet. Other than that, it’s perfect

Maharaja

One of my favorite perfumes. If only it could last longer, especially for an Eau de Parfum at this price.

I ve heard that it used to perform really good in terms of longevity.

I can clearly see the Dior DNA and the resemblance to other perfumes of the brand inside this perfume with ambery notes added. Could be a 10/10 if it could last longer.

hollyoaks321

Veryyyy strong smelling headache inducing fragrance very sharp on the patchouli it’s a no from me

mwtx

Warm/bright(from citrus I’m assuming), spicy ambery, rosey. All blended together very well. To me it gives black outfit vibes. Performs decently. Nice sillage. Great quality. It is definitely worthy of being a private blend.

My favorite I’ve tried from the Dior private line. The only one I have TRIED that I feel like I could wear as a male (I haven’t tried things like tobacolor yet though, I’m not saying it’s the only one in their private line a male can pull off)

I don’t know if it got reformulated or not, but even if it did, it still has depth. Don’t let people that always complain about reformulation stop you from trying this.

I’ve been familiar with this fragrance for a year plus at this point and I think it’s safe to say I love it.

karo.lugo

Beautiful amber/rose scent. A slightly masculine. Very elegant.

Sam-Erik

Eloquent, airy masculine Amber fragrance, wearable all day during the autumn and winter. Well-balanced. This is one of my signature fragrances. I wear it during my business day.

GoingHam

The opening smells almost identical to 40knots by Xerjoff. Very cedary which i dislike. The amber and rose start opening up afterwards and the scent turns better from there on.

bejo82

Folks, please stop writing reviews of the new version here, the original was a masterpiece. This new one, launched in 2018, is not that bad, but does not have the depth of the previous one

sunnyviolets

No idea why this smells like exactly Pamper's baby wipes. Maybe they sent the wrong sample.

Kyely

There is nothing exciting about this fragrance. It smells like your grandmothers fragrance very old woman. This fragrance is very powdery. Some hint of citrus, rose…but I dislike this perfume, for the high price you can you’re better off getting baccarat rouge 540.

Tembacat

The rose in this is so pretty. I am not usually a fan of Dior on my skin but this feels so radiant, warm, and pretty. This feels like a golden autumn day. The longevity seems good and a little goes a long way. I like this so much more than I expected. Adding a full bottle to my wishlist!

Ryanou

This is a softer version of 40knots.
If you think 40knots is harsh and atrong st the opening and you dint quite dig it but like it?
Then u shld try ambre nuit. This is similar and its alot softer. Hence you can iverspray w/o offending anyone and smells great!

tamovicha

I like this a lot. I was surprised at the rose notes, because this for me comes off very woody and ambery, so I maybe would have expected an almond. An extremely flattering perfume, could easily be someone's signature. I get a hint of plasticine, but it's definitely a plasticine that a kid would get to play with in a Dior boutique lol. Very successful fragrance in general, and I would say a safe unisex. If you get a chance to smell it or get it, I don't think you'll regret it!

Lilah_lilah2023

Very strong, warm amber notes. Elegant, spicy, sultry and intense. Not my type of perfume, but it is objectively a good perfume and has some originality to it.

Fragmorocco

Truly a masterpiece
I took a risk and blind bought a 250 ml bottle and I don't regret it.
I can easily say that this work of art is the best scent in my collection.
Can be worn all year round
This 💎 is going to be my signature scent for a long period of time

Applied on my arm before going to bed at 3 am, now it's 3 pm and I still smell it, so I don't know why people say performance is sh*t

Fragboy702

I can't believe how nobody has mentioned how this is Diors version of Chanel's Coromandel. Common it's obviously inspired by Coromandel. The citrus top notes, the rose, and the patchouly. To me it always feels like Dior is always following the footsteps of Chanel and this one is no exception.

CHESTDAYBABY

A gorgeous juxtaposition of amber and rose, this felt like the peak of perfumery for me.

Wearing a composition so full of character and mastery, Francois Demachy nailed this shit.

junidasom

This scent is very warm and full of amber. As someone who doesn't have many perfumes with amber notes, it reminds one of a slightly spicy and embracing cinnamon/nutmeg. This fragrance is a very deep amber so don't blind buy it if you are appealed by the floral and spice notes. This basically smells like a grown up version of a bath and body works cinnamon candle.

maya2000ro

OMG this is addictive!!! I bought it for a birthday gift and I received a sample. I can't stop sniffing my arm. It's so warm and cozy that makes me hug myself. Definitely something I would love to smell all night long on my fiancé's neck.

Sheherazad

Light but not quite airy. Intimate. Warm, dusky, woody, musky. Smells like the transition between Fall & Winter. Burning autumn leaves, a cozy turtleneck, a warm cup of spicy cinnamon cider. No floral or citrus to my nose. Leans ever so slightly masculine.

texasfreedom

Vintage Ambre Nuit is one of the 🐐
As a man I adore this fragrance, I bought a 5mil decant & I rarely used it bc I didn’t want to waste it but when I bought another decant I was disappointed it didn’t smell the same.
Well this is where I was welcomed to the
“Buy it before it gets reformulated”.
I’m not really versed at picking out notes
but the rose & Amber dominate the fragrance.
Ironically this is my most Non verbal complimented fragrance ( meaning ppl don’t tell me but they stare & look my way).
I’m a fan of clones & they do have their place in fragcom but not when I personally love an OG.
Since Dior won’t strengthen the notes I’ve found an alternative, a little more expensive but well definitely give it than vintage OG smell.
Dior has a Elixr or Attar version called
“AMBRE” that’s is part of their
Les Élixirs précieux line.
that is meant to be layered or parried with Ambre Nuit” to help strengthen & project the fragrance.
But at $450 is it really worth it?
To me it’s a Go bc vintage Ambre nuit is a masterpiece. Whether you like it or not
it’s a really nice scent that should be in everyone’s staple.

tessture

I just smell a powdered wood incense type of scent. No real floral or amber notes. It's pleasant and nice, but it's mostly that unburnt pressed wood chip incense, that I've smelled in other scents over the years. Maybe on deep discount? I like it, but it's not dark, nightlike or amber on me.

NOSEYBODY

To my nose Ambre Nuit smells like Amber drizzled over a fresh bed of extremely fragrant Pink Roses, & dusted with Cinnamon & Nutmeg.

It not only has the Sweetness warmth & Spice of the Fall & Winter. But it also has the Floral Freshness & Musky undertones of the Spring & Summer. Which makes Ambre Nuit the perfect year round fragrance.

Ambre Nuit isnt a heavy fragrance, but its by no means a light fragrance either. Its very aromatic, & it projects & leaves a very nice sillage trail in the right temperatures & environments.

Its a fragrance that can be worn dressed up or dressed down.

Its a Unisex fragrance that smells extremely sexy on both men & women.

It's fresh/spicy, but its also warm/spicy.

Its not a dark fragrance per se. Its more of an Overcast fragrance that will cast a shaddow of mystery over its wearer.

Ambre Nuit is a perfect Date Night fragrance, & it works very well on a sweater as a cuddle scent.

SNKIOP

Winter Fall Scent: 8,5/10 It's a warm scent, perfect for colder weather. Amber is most prominent with beautiful cinnamon in the back. It's fancy, sexy. Even though it's a warm scent it's still light at the same time. Sillage: 3/10 Longevity: 4,5/10

RottigrlNYC

Nice but very very weak. It’s been watered down so much that I wouldn’t even call it a perfume. Maybe a weak cologne good for the gym. Terrible terrible performance. For the money, you can do so much better. Ah Dior Dior, you have ruined your fragrances and your name.

graciedoe

On a base level I just dont think this scent is worth the price tag and there are much better performing and arranged amber scents out there. Its fine, it wears nice, but its weak and linear. I dont get any of the citrus notes on me and it like a cinnamon forward savory ambergris and gaiaic wood.

gretta

So cozy. I think someone below said hot apple cider and I agree. I kind of want to drink this. Beautiful and delicious, spicy yet sweet. Fall snuggs and fireplaces and flannel sheets. I once heard COCO described as Dove soap and Coca-Cola which is so true and definitely fits here too. Ambre Nuit could be COCO's hot younger sis.

ant615

Definitely recommend you layer this with something else. But this is an underrated gym scent!

heraklaitos

Just like aJazzyFeel I get rosy soap vibes. Not much amber, woody or bergamot notes. Initially a little disappointing to be honest. Will comment more later.

Edit:
After applying some more juice I get a much more complex scent, and the amber and woody comes through. It is warm and deep. I have this mini bottle of about 8ml without a spray and have the impression that this is not really helping the fragrance performance.

aJazzyFeel

I'm all about Bergamot this season, but this gives rose soap vibes. I'm so sad it doesn't work as I'd hoped on me, but I swear my hand soap smells exactly the same... 😢

Raul Claudiu

Sensual and warm without being sweet, amazing for intimate moments.

aweso10

smoky, rich, ambery, a quick hit of pink pepper and a whisper of rose. very sexy yet warm and cozy🤎🤎 i did not get any of the citrus notes tho ngl

IamdrinkingBeer

I want to add something - i believe this is the "girl next door" of the fragrance world. Sometimes, you see her and she looks just plain and uninteresting...and then of course...her natural beauty and personality strikes you and gives you a big smile on your face. The case is the same here. In certain moments, this just sparkles and makes my day better.

Bellini84

I love Chanel Coco and like this.Enough to have bought a full size bottle but despite the expense it still doesn't compare to Coco.Still searching for an alternative closer to original Coco for me.Any suggestions appreciated!

windchime_00

This is the most beautiful amber and also the essence of cinnamon spiced apple (not the juicy biting into but the air around) yet also seductive and somehow light, but also plenty of night time elegance and some decent projection (though not beastly on me). It is ethereal, but not invisible, in the way that POAL is.

I ordered in a set of Dior decants and this may be my favorite. Absolutely gorgeous, transporting, and hype worthy.

Catalan9377

hayleilei

Usually when people gush about a scent smelling like a real thing, whether it’s a food or drink or flower, I never agree. But this. This is the best hot spiced apple cider with rose petals you ever had. So good.

natk

I don't know if Dior had this effect in mind when they were creating this one but it makes my knees weak if I smell it directly on a man's skin.

Biocactuse

Ambre Nuit made me feel like carrot cinnamon cake fresh out of the oven.

Laurus

I have noticed that it is not real easy to come by a fragrance that is truly unisex. Company may often call it unisex but it mostly leans too masculine and sometimes though rarely too feminine. This is truly unisex sexy spicy scent. It manages to be inviting, fuzzy and cosy smelling but also very very elegant and expensive smelling.

Aprilcadabra

Ambre Nuit by Dior is my all time favorite unisex fragrance. I don't like floral, sweet fragrances. This smells...."Expensive" and mature. Goes so well on either gender and is very long lasting.

CarnationCelt

The initial spray is like bitter grapefruit, but luckily this quickly mellows into a sturdy, enjoyable amber number that feels neither heavy nor light. The ambergris and pepper keep it from being too sweet and the florals keep it from being too sour. It is quite particular in that way that amber scents are - if your stalwart is Daisy then this will seem quite foreign - but it's definitely one of the more accessible ambers in my opinion.

Overall this is bright, warm, and a little sexy. I wear it when I want to fit in at expensive restaurants.

theouddr

Ambre Nuit is smooth... I could see myself wearing this in any season. The scent is not abrasive at all and creates a nice scent bubble around you. I've worn this fragrance to work, outings, and to bed and it never felt out of place. I've yet to wear it during summer time but I am sure it will fit in nicely. Highly recommend this fragrance! Ambre Nuit to me is an 8/10.

Tyriel

To the people that think they are getting bad longevity, this is olfactory fatigue. Try spraying it on a shirt and then smelling it the next day. This is not a beast mode fragrance in terms of projection, but it lasts a good 8-10h on skin and 3-4 days on fabric. This fragrance is not a slouch.

Page Bond 007

Purchased a sample because of the comparison to my current favorite 40 knots by Xerjoff….though it smells damn near identical this stuff is lighter than a toe nail on a scale…i can barely smell it within seconds of spraying on the wrist….40 knots is way more concentrated than this….big disappointment, could’ve been my cheaper alternative.

celestial_scents

Smells amazing. Doesn’t last which is disappointing. It’s warm, simple (to me) and sophisticated. I’ve watched reviews that have mentioned that it had great lasting power. Apparently, something has changed. I really wish the newer bottles projected and lasted longer.

Sidney09

I haven’t given it a full wear, but to me it has that flowery deep dna like the Homme series with a honey like sweet top. So far I’m not sure I like it.

Cinema Paradiso

Lighter, more versatile version of oud wood(TF). Can be worn in 3 out of four seasons. Natural and calming
EDIT: the drydown is close to Royal oud

gedlive

I just put this as my signature fragrance, from a collection of over 100 mostly niche fragrances.

It is very simple, but I see it as three elements that just blend together in perfect harmony.
A beautiful woody amber, the green/ vegetal spiciness of pink pepper, and the floral softness of a beautiful rose.

ethanp

what a beautiful blend. my first entrance into private designer, and I wasn't disappointed. the peppery opening fades off into a warm, lightly bitter (in a tea-like way) rose and gentle sweetness on the drydown. performance isn't excellent, but you get ~enough~ projection and longevity. the profile is very cozy and incredibly elegant. i've always garnered compliments off this, which is interesting because while I definitely enjoy the scent, people around me LOVE it. more of an evening, cool weather fragrance, but I could see this being word during spring days.

it's a little expensive, but still a great price for private collection designer (here's looking at TF and YSL). a purchase I certainly dont regret

fragrancefemme

This is a lovely fragrance, not dissimilar to many others though, and "cologne" strength which cannot justify price of £110 for only 40mls (higher amounts at £200 plus). Longevity disappointing, but would be expected in a cologne. I have 7.5ml sample and would not buy a FB as just not unique, strong or different enough. I would feel cheated if I spend that much on only 40mls (why not 50mls at least)!

Chesco

Lavender + Soap + Amber + Pink Pepper + Rose + hint of White Vanillin Absolute + a hint of ‘dirty’ Patchouli earthiness + a touch of Cinnamon + a touch of Mint + a touch of Yellow Grapefruit citrus + aromatic Guaiac Wood + peppery Cedar Wood Oil + a hint of Ambergris + Powder + dusty Musk

Same dusty-rose scent genres as Dior Homme Intense, i guess you can say it's the female version lol
Think Lavender, Soapy, Spicy, Amber dna, that can be found in many house's lines, but done in Dior's Private Line's light style.
Not what i was expecting from the so-called sexy evening out YouTube reviews. :S
This dna to me this is more of a cuddly sweater, relaxing weekend day kinda vibe, and also would be a perfect office scent!
Mature smelling, yet still current of a dna (for now).
Imo 35 years old plus crowd.
Quality ingredients.
Gorgeous in the air, yet isn't exciting enough of a dna for me personally. It’s the choice of Guaiac Wood & type of Rose that make it smell too mature. And i prefer Dior Homme Parfum more.
One of the more stronger sillages within the Dior Private Line.

Reminds me a little bit of Zara Ebony wood

Elysiom

It has teeth- that's for sure. I'm beginning to think I simply don't like amber very much. This was saved by the pink pepper from being something generic- but it's that same pepperiness at the back of my throat on inhale that also turns me off this fragrance. If it didn't have it, it would blend into the void of amber fragrances, but it is also the very thing that really seems to kick the heck out of the back of my nose.

I don't get the citrus top notes at all- and I have many that follow this same profile. Amber, cedar and patchouli dominate here, and the pepper makes me want to sneeze. Very unisex. It's like a generic woody amber with enough pepper to make you pay attention and give itself a niche.

Nbebis

A very elegant rose for the romantic! This definitely has amber but the star is the rose. It is a warm red rose that is slightly sweet and the amber makes it a very smooth experience! The top is slightly spicy but floral, as the top notes fade the rose blooms, it is a dark red rose without any thorns ( I don't smell anything green or stemy), the deep dry down leaves you with a sweet light amber. This is a very romantic fragrance, it is definitely versatile, it is office/school safe but if you have a larger collection I would use it primarily for romantic occasions. I can see a bride or a groom wearing this. It also reminds me of royalty? It has moderate projection and sillage on my skin. Overall a great fragrance that is definitely one of the stars of the Dior Prive Collection!

MarkFL

I have a bottle from 2015, been wearing it a few years and finally registered to start putting out my reviews. This was love at first sniff. Opens slightly spicy, slightly sour rose with some citrus in the top. Citrus dissipates quick on my skin, rose stays for roughly 20-30min until it becomes a beautiful, seductive, spicy amber. I tried this next to a 2021 bottle in store (wore mine and sampled the 2021). Barely any difference in scent, but my bottle was drastically stronger in both power (2015 is very strong juice. Not beast mode but VERY strong) and longevity (2021 was softer in an hour with no change in my 2015 which was 3hrs older at that point). Would absolutely repurchase a bottle due to how amazing the scent is. Probably unisex, although my wife loves to smell this on me and isn’t interested in wearing it. Has garnered many compliments over the years if that’s what you’re looking for.

Scent 9.5/10 - One of my favorites
Longevity 7.5/10 - Lasts 7hrs on my skin
Sillage / Projection 7.5/10 - 2Hrs until it’s more skin scent (or I become anosmic to it).
Overall - 9/10 One of my favorites, don’t reach for it as much as I want to due to it being a 2015 bottle and I’m hesitant.

aaronmilic

Trying this on a warm day which was a bad idea. It's okay, barely performs on me. When I saw the notes I thought it might be a warmer weather scent but no. On the surface it reminds me a bit of Megalium from Carner Barcelona. Underneath it has that same similar base found in a lot of the Dior Prive collection. I'll try again in cooler weather but I doubt I'll be running out to get a full bottle as it's too light.

I sampled this on paper in Dior’s store, I was like “Hm, it does smell like Grand Soir a bit but with some spiciness which makes it more interesting”.
Then I kept sniffing the paper over and over, gave it to my friends to try it and they love it, after some poiny I decided that I gotta have a full bottle. But the newer batch sucks in terms of performance, so I held my hope down because it doesn’t deserve a full bottle if the performance is shit, so I only bought a 10ml decant just to satisfy my nose at home. After a few weeks I saw someone sell a 2015 batch with 105/125ml left. That’s when I grab the bottle in a blink of an eye lol. Now I just sit here and wait for my baby to arrive, my patient finally paid off in the end. TRY IT GUYS, IT’S VERY GOOD.

Update: Nvm the old batch’s performance is still shit, sold my bottle right after, this is more like a body mist than a perfume, do not buy if you want a good performance fragrance. Longevity 2hrs max, project for like 15mins, no sillage at all. What a shame since the smell is so addicting.

SylvesterW

No sillage at all:(
Like the amber though

Deelecto

In a perfect world, how sex should smell. Sensual, intimate, gorgeous scent.

cbrewerton

Masterfully blended amber. The rose sits in the background more as a supporting character to the slightly spicy, slightly sweet amber. Wonderful stuff.

To me, this is a dressed up, special occasion in a bottle. Easily an all time favorite of mine. Well worth the money

Reimsx

I was surprised to not find any chai on this list because i definitely smell it inside here. The amber was quite weak, not the best but the rose and patchouli was prominent. As compared to rose, i felt like the patchouli was the main scent here. Super elegant and classy, anyone coul pull this off. I am in love with it

torturedsoulboy

Went for this with high expectations as somebody who is all about Amer scents. It ended up being too powdery and too rosy for me. I felt like I was smelling the bottom of a makeup bag in a bad way... I almost felt like there was something wrong with the tester at Bloomingdales in NYC. A definite no for me on first try.

iwillforgetthis

For context, I am a young man and I'm very active, and I do enjoy rose fragrances on my skin as long as they're not too sweet or otherwise overly feminine.

To me, this is very unisex, on me it smells perfectly masculine, but on a woman it would smell beautiful as well. I also don't get a ton on amber on this one, it's a strong supporting note, but in my opinion it's not the center of the attention. Rather, it helps to smooth out the rose. Additionally, nobody really talks about how wearable this stuff is. While I wouldn't be able to pull out the exact citruses just from my nose, they definitely add a level of freshness, as does the cedar in the base. For me, this is such a beautifully blended rose fragrance, and currently it's my signature. I have been wearing it all the time, including to work, dates, and even the gym (I don't apply it before going to the gym, but if that's what I'm wearing at the time already, I just rock it). I don't get a ton of compliments, but the girl I'm seeing really (really) loves it, and I get whiffs throughout the day that really just smell phenomenal and addictive. Now performance isn't strong, but I would say it's almost perfect for me. It's still noticeable around 8 hrs in on my skin, and while the projection is mediocre in the opening and mid, the sillage is fairly strong and absolutely gorgeous.

Overall, I absolutely love this scent. It's only the third that I've reviewed because not many scents really inspire me, but this one does. And if you are comfortable wearing a scent that isn't the typical men's designer, you will find this fantastic, and actually really amazing on a guy, but you HAVE to be confident! If I was trying to be objective, I might say 9/10, but for me it's truly a perfect 10, and its versatility is massively underrated.

hintysuffix

Very unisex. I would prefer to wear something more masculine, as I would expect to smell this type of scent from a woman. Otherwise high quality and pleasing scent. Classy and elegant.

Jewelpaq

This smells very expensive & is totally unisex. I go for very manly scents but this one works on my skin and I am more than comfortable & confident in wearing this masterpiece.
None feminine rose drenched in high quality alcohol with slight bitter amber. The bitter amber & alcohol taking away any feminine aspect completely.
I love this juice.

Zethre

Peppery, with a bit of patchouli, very dry amber with no warmth or sweetness. Sillage so faint I forgot I was wearing it! Not exciting, nor especially warm or cosy. I much prefer D&G Velvet Amber Skin even though ii is also very quiet, it does at least have more warmth and a touch of sweetness, or Halston Woman Amber, which is a clean, warm amber.

frag_newbie

Rich warm goodness! On my skin this is a traditional chai with LOTS of cinnamon and a hint of rose as if it was just slightly infused with some petals. It's a soft spicy fragrance but still has a "clean" vibe to it. It's definitely potent and projects well. It also gives me very middle eastern vibes, I can definitely see a wealthy person wearing this.

TonyG

Really enjoy this scent, but it is VERY feminine in my opinion. Smells more like a perfume than a cologne. It's a beautiful sparkly rose frag and it smells gorgeous but just a little too from for me.

regularguy

IDK what the reviewer below me is talking about. Seems like a promotional post for another fragrance.

Amber Nuit ANIMALIC as f***. So much so that I initially thought there was Oud in here. This thing is heavy as hell

JmThms

I find it interesting that "animalic" is even listed, albeit last, as an accord. I guess because of the ambergris. There is absolutely no animalic accord in Ambre Nuit to my nose. In contrast, Chypré Palatin by MDCI, which has a very noticeable castoreum note, does not have "animalic" listed as an accord at all. Both are amber fragrances with "amber" listed at the top of the accord stack. I like Ambre Nuit, and it does a prominent (second in the accord stack) rose note well. In too many rose-dominant fragrances the rose note, often referred to as "jammy", comes across as plasticky and synthetic to my nose. Frederic Malle's Portrait of a Lady is an example. Maybe the rose drenched in stronger amber, like in Ambre Nuit prevents that. I like the Rose in Ambre Nuit and frags like Aqua di Parma Colonia. I like Chypre Palatin more, however. Typically I don't like a animalic notes at all, but it is controlled in Chypre Palatin and actually gives a certain something extra. Chypre Palatin is complex, opulent, classic, and luxurious, sharing many of the same attributes with the less complex Ambre Nuit. I like Ambre Nuit. I just checked the price on the Dior web site and at about $250 for over 4 oz, it is less expensive than Chypre Palatin's $250 for 75ml. But artistically I am drawn more to Chypre Palatin. I'm wearing Davidoff Leather Blend, a leather and amber scent, just after washing off Ambre Nuit, and I enjoy it more than Ambre Nuit. I get occasional wafts several hours into the drydown without going sniffing for it. I didn't quite get that with Ambre Nuit.

Rerik

Smelled this for the first time in hot Tel Aviv, Israel on a petite girl. Smells like a fine Vodka. Vodka with rose. Reminds of a very typical rose-saffron-oud combination.
Really good sillage 1-3 meter, not so good staying power ~1-2 hours.

hayleilei

Hot apple cider with dozens of rose petals. So beautiful!

Lwjm

Masculine rose well rooted in warm woods and spices. I think you really have to know you're a man for this to work.

You buy this scent BECAUSE YOU ARE a man, and NOT TO MAKE YOU a man. I think that's a big difference in the world of scents.

Longevity : 8hrs on me.
Projection: c 4 or 5 feet.

Kylix

What's the difference in term of smell between this and the 2018 reformulation? Thank you for answering.

TouristTrophy

Such a lovely scent. The rose is the most present in the composition to my nose, but it's a soft and understated rose which is not specifically feminine, in my opinion. I would have preferred more power on the performance scale, like Feve Delicieuse from the same line. Ambre Nuit is probably a bit too light-wearing for my tastes and it seems too fleeting (with moderate longevity and projection). Overall: really great scent with moderate performance.

peter78

Christian Dior just knows the how-to of creating a seductive fragrance and Ambre Nuit is no exception. They searched for ingredients far and wide to create an intensely elusive fragrance. With top notes of bergamot essence, heart notes of damascena rose from Turkey and base notes of ambergris from New Zealand, it exudes unapologetic luxury.

Kiprec

Feminine leaning, mature, classy.. Rose soaked in some expensive alcohol, that is what i get from this perfume. An old rich lady having a drink at the bar.. This is what she would smell like.

missmaddiemac

I just got a sample of this to try and I think it's definitely masculine-leaning, I'd swoon if a guy was wearing this! Such a lovely, well-blended unique scent. I don't think I'd reach for it myself too much but I'd definitely gift it to a guy who was looking for a new scent, esp if I spend a lot of time around them...

jelder_2007

Just got this in the mail. Was a blind buy and I love it. Powdery to my nose. Light and inoffensive. Classy but not too mature. Can definitely be a signature scent. The presentation was amazing from Dior as well. Well worth the $100 for the 1.35 oz in my opinion.

gedlive

I have to rewrite me review, as I like much more now and ordered a small 40 ml spray from Dior, only $100.

I thought it was too safe and a little boring at first.
I poured my 7 ml into an automizer spray, and it smelled much better when the spray put out a nice mist on my hand.
I am able to pick out the really nice soft and fresh spices now, along with the subtle citruses.

It is so refined, smooth, and highest quality notes and brilliant blending. Yes Amber and rose are the main players, but the supporting notes and blending make it a great fragrance.
In a church setting, I try to wear something conservative, like Dior Granville. This has a balance of being safe and exciting in a beautiful way; It is so smooth, and would be mass apealing. I 🤔 I could wear it at church or conservative settings.

PS: I'm picking up a touch of unlisted Oud, giving a nice exotic nuance; Mostly labdanum/ rose/ pink pepper.
There is a bit of soft spiciness coming from a touch of cinnamon.

Ratting: 9.25/10

You are loved by God. John 3:16

Perpetual Collector

Elegant, feminine, and very mature. I am struggling with imagining this on a man. To me, Ambre Nuit is utterly womanly. I love it!

IamdrinkingBeer

Light, glassy amber with rose, grapefruit and bergamot, with some pink pepper to give it some zing. Elegant, and really charismatic fragrance. One to be remembered for a long time.

MS4

Literally the best perfume I've ever smelled. I am in love with the fragrance, it's just so attractive.

Luraco

Fantastic. Absolutely love it, combines warmth with cleanness. Simple, linear scent but so good man... Definitely can pick up every note, but I cant yet wrap my head around the different facades of this. Sometimes the rose peaks out more and this has a clean, almost soapy scent. But on other days i can smell the amber a lot more and it becomes some spicy warm scent with a tiny animalic edge, almost cinnamony to me. Will get this for sure, super versatile but fancy and sexy at the same time. As unisex as it gets!

lwhaymand

Ambre Nuit is sophisticated, sensual and perfectly unisex. While they're definitely different, it reminds me of Parfums de Marly Carlisle. Both have a slightly tart opening - apple in Carlisle, and citruses in Ambre Nuit. Both have a slight spiciness - nutmeg in Carlisle, and pink pepper in Ambre Nuit. Both have a powdery sweetness surrounding the smooth, warm amber and floral rose. The main difference to me is that Ambre Nuit lacks that slight dirty edginess that Carlisle has, and for that reason is more unisex. Absolutely beautiful fragrance, with performance to match. This would be perfect for evening wear, especially if you're dressed up.

AnnaEMHG

This is a fascinating fragrance. The amber is foremost but airy, almost ethereal which I've not experienced in an amber fragrance before. Rose, pink pepper and delicate smokey orange. A soft and elegant fragrance. Intellectual rosy amber. Delightful!

SpidersSilk

The most refreshing amber scent I have smelled so far. Even though not listed, this gives me Coca-Cola and honey. Very versatile, the refreshing notes make it work in summer, the amber makes it work in winter. Day and night. To me this is a crowd-pleaser, I have a hard time imagining that someone would not like this scent. Not very edgy, but I can't help but love it

saranyaskumar

As unisex as it gets. The only unisex fragrance that I adore. There are clear amber notes, and background rose notes, pretty linear throughout. It is classy, elegant, and sophisticated. Guaranteed compliment getter, and very unique!

rozen

To me it is smells similar to MFK Grand Soir but with way less potency and depth.

The Real Chip Diamond

One of the best rose scents. Unisex. All seasons.

rosenoir

A must-have for lovers of amber rose and vanilla. Dior's private line are high-quality perfumes at very reasonable value for money... Don't forget you also get another 25ml as they are 125ml bottles.

s562673

amazing scent. You should have it if you love rose and tiny flowers. It is deep and elegant. Like drinking tea after a spa.

blossomka

7.5/10. Familiar sweet talcum, tiny flowers maybe heliotrope, soapy. Definitely floral and a little powdery. Not much spice but there is a depth to the floral. Later vanilla, fruity and musky aspects appear. Elegant. It is pleasant and a good unisex perfume, as just with soap it smells good and clean on both women and men. I like it but it is not exciting.

gonzalez-alcantar01

Ambre Nuit.
Brutishly opening with Rose Note Unshockingly identical to Anteaus by Chanel from 40 years ago. The amber seems like a mix of chemicals meant to clone the remains that come from whale intestine. The scent seems to smell like burnt sugar after about 45 minutes, probably thanks to the grapefruit and pink pepper interplay which perform simlar on me FE Like La Comedia by Ferragamo. Not impressed by this one at all

excuse.my.sillage

Ambre Nuit, as the name implies that this perfume is more suitable for the night, I think I would love to wear this more during the day. And how I love that beautiful fizzy opening. With bright and light grapefruit and bergamot, it feels like the soft morning sunbeam touches your skin at the beginning of the spring season. Right after that, the rose and spices start to become visible. I know I said I'm not a rose person but this is certainly a rose-done-right in my opinion. I can definitely pick up the pink pepper, I think if anything has pink pepper in it, there's a high it will go well with my skin. And I love it when small or hardly noticeable things could give such an impact. It's just lovely, really.

Then comes along Amber, our protagonist here. I love cozy amber and this one is just warm, sweet, round, and sensual with a little boozy hint in it. I also get a bit of cinnamon in here, which acts as another supporting role to the amber. The notes construction here is beyond what I expected. At first, I thought this would be another heavy scent (and I don't mind that actually) however, it comes out more on the lighter/ brighter side, almost has an ethereal quality to it. The scent also smells very natural to me, you can tell it's high quality and well blended. Wearing it feels like you're wearing a beautiful luxury scarf that is sheer but yet keeps you warm if you need it to. Ambre Nuit's sillage is also nice, it's not a beast mode and I like that about it. I'm glad that I can just overspray this one without feeling guilty or choking people who ride the same lift with me like I usually do. The only one thing I wish it could give me more is longevity though, 4 hours on my skin doesn't match the price tag, to be honest. The presentation and the bottle itself, however, are impeccable. It's simple, it's chic and classy. And if I could pick my signature scent out of all the perfume I have, I think this is gonna be the one. ;)

holocene

It reminds me of CK Obession, except I find that inexplicably revolting, yet I kind of enjoy this.

Starts off a spicy amber with citrus and rose coming through quite strongly, however I feel it just dries down to a sweet musky masculine cologne type of smell, which isn’t fantastic but also isn’t horrible.

Sniff away

Smell's like casbah by avon , quite old fashioned. I would imagine an elegant Victorian woman smelling like this. It's far too feminine for a guy to get away with wearing. The grapefruit and bergamot top note's are short lived, then it's an amber, rose and pepper drydown . The pepper and rose don't work well together as they give off a cinnamon vibe .Good longevity with nice wafts drifting softly throughout the day. Spring and autumn are probably the best seasons for ambre nuit. It's way overpriced for what it is as I'm guessing it's all just aroma chemicals that they use.

brokesta911

Christian Dior Ambre Nuit (2009) - clarity of thought - @francois_demachy’s greatest work with Dior if you ask me. This creation is like high end sushi. Simple yet profound. It’s mainly an amber, rose and pink pepper accord, but the use of high quality ingredients and the refinement of the formulation makes it one of the clearest amber fragrances that really shines

hsiangchi.huang

First spray - I smelled something piercing... probably the bergamont & pepper. Strong SHARP alcohol bursts out, reminds me of the hospital.

After an hour... still sharp, the amber here is not warm but rather sharp.

MademoiselleMimi

So sad this didn't really work for me. It was great at first... smelled like spicy amber. Nothing better. But after an hour, it smells sorta like men's cologne... or kinda like musky aftershave. Either it just doesn't work with my body chemistry, or it's just too "unisex" for me.

Rotten Rebel

I just reviewed this on my channel "rotten rebel" on Youtube. This was one of my first perfumes from Dior and still to this day I find it to be a unique fragrance like no other.

To me it's a beautiful, fizzy sparkling rose together with a bit of depth and warmth. It's elegant and sexy at the same time and it's (like most perfumes) for both men and women.

I've recommended this to so many women and men and they all ended up loving it.

One of my all time favorites and a stunning perfume that I really recommend!

Charlize2014

I got a sample of this 5ml, i used it once only, that’s how I disliked, smells like some Dior men fragrances, definitely not worth the price tag.

Fragaddict123

It’s a magnificent scent especially the opening
It’s cozy relaxing and the amber is top notch
I didn’t get any florals or spices it is plain amber
Not sure it’s for night time as the name suggests
The only downside such a lot of fragrances is the performance
I would’ve loved if it radiated for a long time after the first two to three hours it becomes a skin scent
Wouldn’t Recommend a full bottle if you care about performance

Rob80

Not that impressed. On me it's very linear, leans a bit sweet with some hints of "Mugler Angel" here and there. The animalic facets translates on my skin to baked bread smell for some reason. I prefer other Amber or Ambergris scents ala Amber Absolute, Akkad, Amber Sultan or Amber Aoud.

Neutral rating. Not bad but also not impressed.

LaContessina

Ambre Nuit is an oriental with a rose note and a warm dry-down.
It opens with bergamot, pink pepper. The spicy heart is sweetened with a floral note.
Then the fragrance goes more oriental: amber, woody, balsamy and slightly gourmand.
Absolutely stunning, cozy and sexy; drydowns as a powdery skinscent.
It's so warm and sophisiticated that could suit everyone. A very wearable, refined amber that I totally recommend!

I will never ever be without this fragrance. It’s my favorite Amber perfume ever. It’s smoky and rosy, slightly spicy and just perfection to me. My signature scent. When (if?) we ever get back into the office, I will keep a small bottle there for an afternoon touch up. It’s just beautiful and well blended, interesting and classy. Just a stunner for a man or woman. LOVE AT FIRST SNIFF.

Pacifica_

This juice hits the SPOT. It’s so sophisticated and delicious. It’s a little spicy with some mild rose notes at the opening but amber/ambergris is the star of the show, especially on the dry down. I get great performance on this, 12+ hours of wear and maybe 5 ft sillage. It is very much unisex though, so “girly” perfume lovers will not be a fan.

mellyv1973

My favorite amber fragrance thus far. It’s a bit woody, a bit spicy and a bit sweet. The silage is not huge but this lingers on my skin all day long. Love it 🥰

ingeneuxo

-Smoky amber scent.
-Has spice notes. A hint of cinnamon too.
-Dries down to a woody scent.
-Comes across as mature/ masculine.
-Not a fan. (-)

almightykcoolj

If you’re a man and thinks this smells nice on you; try it on your wife or girlfriend.
Very beautiful amber; with moderate spillage. It’s a sexy scent .

There is not much to be said: This is a great fragrance! The next 2 reviewers below my comment are in the wrong place- this is the old version of Ambre Nuit, not the one that they are referring to...
I have no idea why they are putting the comments here instead of below the new version of Ambre Nuit which can be found above in the section of “This perfume reminds me of” ...?!?

How can you put a comment here and blame a version of Ambre Nuit that you never smelt?

piyux

Dior Ambre Nuit opens with a moderate projection of sweet, resinous, rose, and faint citrus notes. The opening is elegant, refined, warm, mature, and very pleasant. The bergamot and grapefruit are brief visitors, they come up just for a moment during the opening but they quickly dissipate, meanwhile, the amber and rose will start developing. The pepper is the spicy note, but not as prominent as the amber or rose. The amber in this fragrance feels resinous, sweet, dense, very warm, and it contains a faint boozy accord, very pleasant. The rose is prominent during the opening, but it takes two steps down towards the dry down under the stronger amber that remains as the featured note. The fragrance has little opening to dry down changes, the opening is citrusy, the rose is very prominent, the pepper is also very noticeable. As time passes, the citruses dissipate, the amber develops a soft powdery accord, slightly boozy, it makes the fragrance sweet, and resinous. Finally, the rose, losses some of that initial intensity, becoming a noticeable support note. The initial projection remains the same. Once Dior Ambre Nuit has reached its full dry down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, sweet, resinous amber, soft rose, and spicy peppery fragrance. The fragrance feels casual, comforting, delectable, dense, dry, elegant, gentle, intimate, inviting, mature, mild, moderate-quality, modern, slightly powdery, resinous, refined, rich, simple, sweet, unisex, warm, and pleasant.

Not worth the money or the hype, I purchased blindly based on so many positive reviews, but I didn’t realise that most of those positive reviews are coming from the original Ambre Nuit, before it got reformulated in 2015! My bottle was reformulated version, the scent is sooo weak that 20 sprays wasn’t enough, no one could detect it in me. Plus it is not the best Amber perfume out there. I had to return it back to Dior.com

missk

Ambre Nuit by Christian Dior is quite possibly one of the most hyped amber fragrances on the market. Although very wearable, I find it quite spicy and crisp on the skin. I personally think it wears better on a man rather than a woman, although classified as unisex.

I own several amber fragrances and consider amber to be one of my favourite oriental accords. I had high hopes for Ambre Nuit and wanted desperately to fall in love with it. I can only comment on the vintage formulation, but from what I've sampled this composition has a very distinct element of masculinity. Amber, pink pepper and grapefruit are the most dominant notes to my nose, followed by an interesting salty aroma.

The sillage is moderate and the longevity between 5-7 hours on my skin. I'm not certain as to whether this fragrance has been reformulated, but I would honestly prefer if it were a tad more syrupy and sweet. It's far too dry and spicy for my personal tastes. I would much prefer to smell it on my partner's skin as opposed to my own.

I may try layering this fragrance with a vanilla-based scent to add a touch more sweetness. Although amber scents are traditionally seen as cold weather fragrances, the grapefruit and pink pepper notes make Ambre Nuit a fabulous choice for a warm evening. The warmth also amplifies the woodsy drydown.

seas13

With one spray this became a new favorite of mine. This perfume smells warm. That’s the best way to describe it. Definitely unisex, I would love to wear this but it would also smell amazing on a man. It smells warm, inviting, comforting. Amber is one of my favorite notes in perfumes, and this fragrance just killed it. Feels like a great Fall, Winter, or Spring perfume, day or night.

mieaco

sparkling, light, clean amber masterpiece. cozy and comforting, classic, elegant. umph. love!

Angeldaisy

Silky smooth, sweet, lightly spiced amber woods, balsamic incense.

(2016 batch).

pink pepper, frankincense, myrrh, ambroxan, salty “ambergris", labdanum, something creamy “sandalwood” type and a chocolatey feel (patchouli). honeyed pipe tobacco! topped with a nice bitter waxy grapefruit and citrus bergamot. a soft sweet berry fruity creamy rose (not massively perceptible) unfurls in the middle and dies again and then peeks out every now and again to the end. I can smell an iris/violet/rose make-up nuance start-mid.

I like that it wears lightweight, yet longlasting. I dont understand why it is marketed as a cologne? It behaves like the oriental EDP it is.

I don't find this dry, more sheen than powder (a smell like that suprising silky feel talc has on the skin). So far, it feels too polished for me, there is no denying the quality of this blend. But rather like a beautiful face with perfect features and a spotlessly clean flawless complexion, I somehow can only describe as "bland beauty”.

This might end up one of my Growers, I adore these Diors! or I might end up passing it on. It leaves me craving a scent with more rigour and vitality. Or perhaps I am not in the mood for orientals right now.

Things that spring to mind, Ambre Eternal, APLS, Sahara Noir and Chergui (old formula) and oddly, the soapy golden hued rose aspect of Scent.

I personally would have preferred more rose and ambergris and less/zero ambroxan and amberwoods (that take over in the dry down). but that is about me, not the scent.

Presumably this Privee pre-2018 version is a Francois Demachy?

Lom

One of the best from Dior. It smells like amber and soft tobacco, and reminds me of Grand Soir by Maison Francis Kurkdjian. I really love this.
Another good perfume that smells somewhat similar is Méharées by l'Erbolario.

alfrued

I have one from 2015
The opening is very warm and syrupy
The dry down is rosy with a hint of citrus
It is not complex but very pleasant

Performance is moderate
I heard ppl talking about new batches & how powdery or soupy they smell. Is that true?

Rosemary14

This is quite warm with woody nuances. The focus is on the Amber. This must be what real amber or ambergris smells like. It almost feels like placing you face next to some very warm spiced aromatic wood and inhaling deeply. This quite dry and there is something watery. It smells natural and it reminds me of being inside a sauna of real cedar. Perhaps it’s also the mild zesty pink peppercorn and bergamot in the distance. I don’t get a whole lot of rose. There is a little bit of floral in the distance but it is not the star. Perhaps I am smelling ambergris for the first time as it exists in nature. It isn’t effervescent like the sea. It’s a dry, elegant, beautiful, woody, lovely, delicately spiced fragrance.

I’m still wearing this several hours later and this reminds me exactly of being inside a sauna made of cedar. It’s really one of the most sophisticated woody fragrances I’ve ever encountered. I’m having a quite unique and beautiful olfactory experience right now. I have Stella on one arm and Ambre Nuit on the other and they are harmonizing so gorgeously I can’t believe it. It’s like having Hepburn and Tracy on each arm.

Anyone who says it's not been reformulated, apparently is going by their scent memory and not a side by side comparison. I first fell in love with this perfume in 2014 but didn't have the finances to acquire it specially since the only available size was 250 ml bottle.

Fast forward to 2017 I came across 3 bottles of this perfume in a store in 125 ml and I decided to make a purchase. The sales rep was known to me because I was a regular so he open up a bottle and let me have a sniff. I thought something was wrong with my nose or memory because it didn't smell like how I remembered because there was too much soapy cheap rose smell in it. I checked the batch code and it was 7xxx something. One out of the three bottles was 5N01, the last bottle was 6xxx something. I asked the sales rep to let me try the 2015 (5N01) bottle and he opened it for me. The first sniff from it's spray on my wrist and I instantly remembered the first time I had tried it, syrupy(amber) rose lightened with spiciness and a tiny tinge of citrus (this thing is not heavy at all).
Personally I think this is a truly unisex fragrance because it's neither too masculine or feminine.

So yes there has been a reformulation that Dior are notorious for, and I have yet to try the newer batches to see how they fare against the older version.

Miraataraxia

It is truly a lovely patchouli amber rose fragrance with high quality combination in elegant harmony and in minimal balanced way that conjured me intensely to buy dior off!!!after a lot of wear shoud admit I had some regret in purchasing ambre nuit , because of its unmystical world with far less challenging and far less complicated than many others in niche and mainstream market , performance is totally moderate and price is high...

Aromatic delight of amber dominated by a powdery rose. Yes, some may be fooled by the name and juice color, but make no mistake as there is no aromatic homage to amber here. Calm down, don't give up on it yet: the powdery aspect is something peculiar and really the main attraction and differential of the fragrance - smell of classic and high quality makeup, something that Coco Chanel herself would have used for example. Very seductive and immensely pleasing scent, even for those who don't enjoy the makeup vibe in perfumes - it really makes you want to meet a woman so chic and good taste that can make it look like she wears makeup this chic in a regular. Discreet but long projection power of 2 hours, then slightly above skin scent for another 2h.

andrewg

A well balanced, romantic scent. I believe this leans more feminine but anyone can rock this. You can smell the amber and rose so distinctly; I wish the rose was toned down a little. I like the smell but I don’t see this as very masculine. I would buy this for my girlfriend.

Effervescent, uplifting and energizing fragrance smelling of ambergris and ambroxan with a dose of amber. This is a fragrance that grows on me with every wear. Would make for somebody’s perfect signature. Moderate arms length projection lasts for 3 hours before settling into a skin scent for me. Smells like a sea breeze. Between this and 40 knots this is the more wearable and light scent whereas 40 knots is a bit more adventurous and the salt makes it harder to wear for all occasions. That fragrance projects longer and further versus this however scent alone I prefer Ambre Nuit. Absolutely a beautiful scent.

Awwready

A fresh, sparkly amber. Probably one of the brightest amber's ever created. Very versatile. All sprays are not equal! If there is anybody having longevity or sillage issues, this fragrance is very good at controlling that with the amount of sprays...

Larrythe1st

Nothing special at all, clean-safe, nothing dirty or exciting. overpriced, overhyped, always try before you buy.

linceed87

love the opening... not . fan of the dry down, not completely bad but not great, smells kind of synthetic to me.... dont know dont know...

Aux

There's no amber in this folks; it was designed to be an amberGRIS and rose scent.

A peppery opening with bergamot that pops. The rose starts off a little soapy and the ambergris a bit musty, but give this about half an hour to settle down. The rose becomes more delicate, the pepper lighter, and the ambergris warmer. What you're left with is a gorgeous, sensationally smooth rose, ambergris & bergamot blend with a pinch of pink pepper. It's highly reminiscent of YSL La nuit de l'homme's drydown.

Scent: (4.5 / 5)
Whilst the opening is weak, the drydown is right up there. *

Performance: (2 / 5)
On my skin it's detectable within a foot for about 2 hours, will linger on the skin for about 7 hours. Have to spray a lot of this.

Versatility: (4 / 5)
Imo this can be worn in the day in the cooler months, and all year around at night. Completely unisex, classy or casual, and very seductive.

Overall: (4 / 5)
Performance is just too weak for me to wear this, scent is heavenly though.

Edit: * Have tried 3 batches, huge variation in batches imo. Newer batches are more soapy and less smooth.

Le Chypriote

Oh, wow!

You get rich, bold amber that settles into the most sensually rich, and sweet rose you've ever smelled. An absolute icon.

Quiet Life

The opening is dry, smokey, a bit on the masculine side, was meh for me, that is the opening. Then warm sweeteness starts to creep up, it rich Amber. I am catching whiffs of it as I go about my day and its delicious. To me this is what feve delicieuse should have been.
Bottom line, it starts off as smokey, masculine, and has nothing to do with amber, then the amber comes in and settles, and takes a feminine side. Longevity is good, projection is average. Nothing citrusy here, I love it !

Beyonder

This fragrance is a masculine amber accord with a lively and fruity start (bergamot, pink berries ...). The spicy heart is softened by a floral note. Then the perfume become more oriental: amber, woody, balsamic, slightly gourmand. Smooth and nocturnal, Ambre Nuit is a perfume where amber meets a 'rose that takes its night clothes'. Another masterpiece by François Demachy.

To paraphrase hermes_hermes' glowing review below. When you smell Ambre Nuit you realise that people have been talking about other scents being smooth as silk prematurely.
This is a top-notch elegant and classy fragrance, and yet I don’t feel as eulogical as hermes_hermes. But it is truly a beautiful blend of honey made of rose essence.

Jewelpaq

One of my favorite fragrances that I use for playful social occasions or for when I am in a relaxing mood. This is a gem of a fragrance & highly rated in my collection. It is like the super superior version of La Nuit De L'Homme, but much better smelling to my nose. Obviously it is not the same, but if a very high end flanker was made, then this could be it. I never ever want to run out of this juice. When applied, it takes you to a place of happiness and warmth.

Grewal Amrit

One of the most beautiful scents I have ever had the privilege to smell. It seems like the notes always lose their coherence on my skin after 2 hr mark. The top notes seem like a bit more complete blend of the notes but even the heart is so beautiful that the day it is available again in Melbourne, I will be purchasing a 250 ml again without a 2nd thought.

Kots_Tanya

This is beautiful, I love it on me but feel like it would smells so amazing on my man.
Definitely a very neutral fragrance for winter/fall and oh so warm and cozy. Aaah, I just might get a full bottle. I can smell rose, a dark syrupy rose, some spice I think it’s probably pink pepper, the Amber makes so cozy feeling and the citrus is so mice here to make the fragrance smell not too overwhelming. It’s gorgeous.
And one spritz is going a long way I have it on my one wrist and I can smell it pretty strongly farther way, so silage is amazing. I feel like if you used more than 2 sprays you might choke a few people 😅

Jay67

I’m going to have to chime in here with my penny’s-worth of opinion on the “reformulation’” of Dior Ambre Nuit and before everyone starts shouting at me, I’m going to post this on both listings for Ambre Nuit, as my review relates to both, so forgive me!

First off........ this absolutely stunning work of art has been my signature Autumn-Winter fragrance since I first discovered it back in 2012 and if I’m perfectly honest, I’ll often wear it on and off in spring and summer too, just because I can’t get enough of it and miss it like mad when I don’t wear it for a while! Beautiful warm, honeyed ambergris accompanied by rose blended with delicate pink pepper and muted citruses........ it’s just so bloody amazing! Sensual, sumptuous and enveloping, it’s no wonder that Ambre Nuit is held in such high esteem within our community and clearly, it sells well enough for Dior for them to keep it within the Privee/Maison Dior line since 2009, while many of its contemporaries have been discontinued.

I’ve always stood back in wonder and watched while the Creed crowd work themselves into a frenzy over Aventus individual batch codes and which code and year is the best and worst, which is fine if that floats your boat and good luck to you but I’ll steer well clear of all that malarkey thanks.

But....... that being said, I do think that, whilst not necessarily individual batch codes but more the year the batches are produced or rather the year that the natural elements in the higher-end fragrances are harvested and the environmental conditions they were grown in, have a huge bearing on the finished fragrance. Not unlike wine, where the grape harvest quality can vary greatly depending on the weather and soil conditions, the same applies to most naturally grown ingredients, so let’s not lose sight of that fact when we’re discussing the “reformulation” conundrum. As I’ve been informed, Dior produce/grow the majority of their own natural components for their Dior Privèe/Maison Christian Dior line, one would assume that they have very tight quality control over these elements, so that shouldn’t be a factor but nonetheless, it must be a variable.

In my many experiences of Ambre Nuit production from the 4 different bottles that I own, with production dates from 3 different years; 2012, two from 2016 and 2019, I can say categorically that yes, yes indeed there is a big difference between 2019 and the other ‘vintages’, primarily in the longevity but also in the projection to a lesser degree. The question is though ...... is that because the older versions have ‘steeped’ in the bottles over the years, enhancing the efficacy of the components or is it because of replacement or reformulation of ingredients, EU and/or IFRA regulations or something else? We may never know the answer to this question but like the review from @darKSaga below, I have had conversations with the fantastic sales associates & regional managers for Dior at Selfridges & Harrods here in London and Dior boutiques in Paris but ultimately, no sales associate working for a brand like Dior or most others come to that, would tell you even if it were reformulated because if you’re an existing user of the fragrance in question, they run the risk of you not buying it again and if the fragrance is new to you, that information is irrelevant anyway. Also, bear in mind that the sales staff wouldn’t necessarily be told themselves by the regional managers or head office, so they may not necessarily be aware if that were the case and so their default position, should the question be asked is ..... ‘no, there’s been no reformulation as far as I’m aware.’

All of my rambling aside though and in my own very personal opinion, Ambre Nuit (pre 2018) is an absolute stunning fragrance and deserves to be on its pedestal; sensual, comforting & warm whilst oozing class, elegance and sophistication. If I was forced to only own three fragrances for the rest of my life, this would be one of them without question.
The post 2018 version less so unfortunately as the 250ml bottle I have is distinctly weaker in longevity, projection and sillage & whilst it retains the obvious Ambre Nuit DNA, it is somewhat lacking for me in comparison I’m afraid but I still wear it on occasion regardless.

lrnonken

A sharp spicy opening, after an hour it smells like a nice potpourri with cloves and cinnamon, would be good as a winter scent (or a room fragrance) strong projection still at 4.5 hours, dries to a less sweet dry spicy skin scent that makes me think of sunshine, which lasts for hours and hours as a subtle skin scent.

MrEleven1181

This is possibly the most disappointing fragrance ive ever had. I tested this in the shop loved it right away and had to have it. When i tested this fragrance it was sprayed on a card.
So after getting home and wearing this for 5 days straight i am utterly disappointed. Its so weak and diluted down its not even funny and I bought direct from dior. After the initial spray you get a strong smell of alcohol not very nice at all then after around 30-40 seconds it is a beautiful spicy amber with cinnamon fragrance and i do truly love the scent.
After an hour maybe two hours maximum I struggled to even pick up the scent on myself, i am so let down by this one.

Its a shame as i love Oud Ispahan, purple oud and santal noir from this line and they 3 are all very powerful except maybe santal noir but i give that a pass because sandlewood fragrances are generally hard to make very strong.

Cherry_Darling

Agree this is more rose less amber. It smells dated to me actually. Some kind of vintage ambergris.

Celia31

aayushi5

I tried this when I was looking for full-on amber scents. To me this came across as more of a rose scent (or equal parts rose & amber at the very least) with some spices in the background. This is not a warm, resinous amber though. It is definitely pleasant, not heavy at all, unisex and easy to wear; but not what I was looking for in an amber perfume.

sylnjav

So I've loved fragrances since I was old enough to buy them myself around 15 years old. I'm a female by the way but it's not until now that I'm really starting to enjoy them and really appreciate notes and am learning about the nose behind them and longevity and silage and such. So I've been looking for a signature scent for the past 6 months. So I would go to Saks and Marshal Fields and get samples and spray some and I thought I had found the best scent for me until I bought the minis from this Esclusif line of Dior and wow am I blown out of the water. This scent leaves me gasping and I get a little teary eyed because it makes my already happy heart even happier. The set includes Sakura. Oud Ispahan. Bois D'Argent. Thé Cachemire. Rose Gypsy. Balase Sauvage. Gris Dior. My husband doesn't care for frags but my 2 sons do and are we gonnna enjoy wearing these. Go try this it smells amazing.

hermes_hermes

When you smell Ambre Nuit you realise that people have been using the words 'classy, expensive, sophisticated' describing other fragrances unjustifiedly.

Dior Ambre Nuit is beyond stunning!!!

mfinz8

Well, reviews can say all they want, but for a men's scent, to me the rose IS prominent and it smells like an older woman might wear it because of it. If it didn't have that rose in it then I think it could be a serious winner as the remaining blend of notes is linear but great. But. Yes, but, the rose completely ruins it for me. I own a decant and I will find a grey haired woman old age pensioner to donate it to.

Bambus

Firstly to Fragrantica: Oh my god, could you please finally fix that nonsense you have in your "Notes" about amber? Amber is resin, it is not animalic. It is creating confusion everywhere. For example here, the notes are wrong! Ambre Nuit is a combination of AMBERGRIS (sperm whale, anyone? Sometimes called "grey amber") and rose, not AMBER (resin). It is wrong on the Dior product page as well, so I guess someone just copied it here, but still...

Christian Dior Ambre Nuit is being talked about in superlatives, and deservedly so. It's smooth, high quality, pleasing. I cannot but to recommended, but I do not advise a blind buy. The reason why I will not be getting a full bottle is the rose note. Not that it's too strong, but the combination of rose and the animalic ambergris creates a quite unfortunate association for me, and that is a grandma. I just cannot help it, but this is the ultimate grandma smell for me. I really want to like this fragrance, but let's just say that running around feeling like a grandmother is nothing I, as a man in early 30s, would desire.

Kmam

Oh heck yes. This for me was another one spray, ten minutes walking around and “yep I’ll have one of those please” (Fève was the same when I bought it last year). Rich, smooth, instantly comfortable amber that feels like it was never not on my skin. This is like a cashmere jumper that you just feel “right” in. The rose sits nicely in the background for me.

Roses and Spices

Yes it's nice. I tested it at Selfridges and it was pleasant. What made it so unusual on me was how much it smelled like honey. It replicated one of the Killian scents on me. Yes the rose was there but the honey matched the intensity of the rose. It was pleasant and nice, a bit of a friendly scent which made it unusual. Think of a nice friendly girl next door scent. Theres no femme fatale, no nighttime liaisons, nothing dark, nothing mysterious. As a few of the reviews have said, very nice !

Uni-Scent

I'm not usually too crazy about amber-based scents. I'm more into woody, vetiver, and tobacco dominant scents. However, Dior's Ambre Nuit is just about done to perfection! Feels very classy and mature. With only a handful of notes listed, this fragrance smells a little bit more complex than that. Perfect for dates and formal occasions.

Scent: 8.5 / 10
Performance: 7 / 10

mewakwon

although i/m not a fan of amber

the amber note in this is not to strong
mix with the sweet of rose and a bit of spice is perfect

if u not used to amber note or just in the niche world
this will change your mind of the amber

Still have my 8.4oz bottle I purchased when this first came out years ago. I’ve bought and sold hundreds of fragrances as I buy, don’t like it, turn around and sell it. NOT THIS ONE.
This is the one fragrance that has stood the test of time for me and it will be in the cabinet until the last drop, and then I’ll save the bottle just to revisit every now and then.
Dior has never made a better fragrance IMHO, it’s simply perfect. I wouldn’t call this my signature fragrance, I don’t really have one as my tastes seem to change every month. But I would call this the best fragrance I’ve ever owned. And I’ve had a few.

12345

The amber/rose give it some bone, the citrus makes it sparkly, and the pepper gives a bit of bite. This creates something that's similar to white wine or champagne.

I do believe the amber is much lighter than the 2018 formulation.

adamthompson06

Ambre Nuit is almost identical to Xerjof's 40 knots and it is more cost-effective at $220USD for 120ml compared to $195USD for 50ml for 40 knots. Ambre Nuit has one of the best rose notes I've ever smelled and the ambergris doesn't disappoint either. This fragrance is officially my favorite Dior offering, designer and Private collection included. I get all day performance out of it as well.

Peto

I ordered a sample and after the first wearing I said to myself...I need to get a bottle and to my surprise I ended up getting 250ml for a really good price!! its rich, elegant and long lasting!!

reydre3221

Speaking off a sample here, and only a first impression, but off the initial spray, I get a big YSL La Nuit De L'Homme vibe. So much so that I'm actually surprised no one else mentioned that resemblance. Maybe it will change as I continue to sample. Great scent obviously, since LNdL is amazing.

EDIT: Just tested side by side, and there's definitely a difference. Ambre Nuit is way smoother and spicier. I would say they are still the same type of scent, but different smells and would choose Ambre Nuit over La Nuit De L'Homme.

ayseo

I remember so clearly, I got stopped dead in my tracks in a French pharmacy while wearing this perfume to be asked why I smelled so good. It’s so hypnotizing. Since then this has been my most complimented fragrance. It’s powdery without being too much so, it’s sweet and creamy without being cloying and it’s got just the perfect amount of rose. It is beautifully blended and if I had to pick one fragrance that I would repurchase until the end of my time it would without a doubt be Dior’s Ambre Nuit.

darrenwrite

One of my favorites, sweet but not candy sweet, well blended, has a nice dusty more powdery smell in the dry down. get decent performance out of this one.

sleepy*weasel

No need to test this, just one spray for day, or two for night, and head out. Beautiful blend of ambergris /rose/patchouli far more than the sum of its (unlisted) parts. Slight boozey and smokey echoes of other, more liquorish scents like Ambre Russe, for instance, but this is a unique, velvety, smooth blend, warm but not sweet, guaranteed a good reception. Slightly more masculine, in that I'd love to smell it on a man, but I'll happily wear it myself. I even rubbed my wrist on the dog, his fur will hold it for a few days. Really, don't mess about with strips and dabs. Just put it on and go out, it is beautiful. Ask at your Dior counter for a sample. Has to be tried. 10/10 !

Hazazi91

Clear as crystal yet so deep and sophisticated, this is olfactory exoticism! Statement maker! Perfection! I blind bought a full bottle and I have never been more happy about a purchase before! Enough has been said about this infamous crowd pleasing monster(beautiful one). I can now see why the hype of this will never die, it’s an iconic masterpiece, easily HALL OF FAME worthy for me.

Dior Ambre Nuit has one of the most delicious and smooth amber fragrances I have smelled - definitely more on the masculine side - that would be a real ‘lady pleaser’ on a cold weather evening dinner date.

The rose can smell a little dusty on the opening but soon calms downs into a smooth fresh note. Projection is subtle and intimate but longevity could be better - after 4 hours in colder weather it really reduces to a faint skin scent.

This is a more linear fragrance than Eau Noire but the amber is just so fantastic you don’t want it to change as it ages.

kaka brar

A perfect winter date night smell in a bottle . reformulated is pretty rich and performs well . Wonder how rich original formulation have been.

Tyriel

Beautiful scent. This is the most silky, smooth, airy, alluring scent I have ever smelled. This is probably due to the real ambergris they use. I can only imagine how white ambergris (highest quality) smells like.

I am not really fond of the opening. There is a little bit of a misplaced bitterness. I guess this is the grapefruit. But after an hour, the bitterness is gone and it mellows down in the airy, alluring scent I fell in love with. When sprayed on clothes, the bitterness is a bit more pungent and will last a little longer. On clothes, this fragrance lasts for more than a day and will continue to softly project at arm's length for more than 12 hours. Last night, I sprayed a single spray on my shirt at 21:00 and when I put my shirt on the next day (07:30), it was like I was wearing a cloud of ambergris/rose. Beautiful!

Edit: The bitterness was only detectable in the first 10-15 sprays of my new bottle. It is totally abscent now. Now it's pure perfection.

This is the fragrance I will wear if I really want to wow people.

Scent: 12/10
Projection: 8/10 (Soft, close encounter. But this is how a fragrance like this should be. Does project a good amount of hours)
Sillage: 9/10
Longevity: 8/10 (Lasts a good 7-8 hours on skin and more than a day on clothes)
Versatility 8/10 (Date nights and very special occasions)
Uniqueness: 10/10
Price-performance: 9/10 (The only downside is that the Privé line is only available in huge bottles. The ml-price is actually very good for the quality you are getting)
Total: 10/10 (Masterpiece)

I e-mailed Dior, asking about the 2018 version and if it was reformulated. Dior affirmed that no reformulation has been done for the 2018 version. They have re-released their exclusive line, together with some new fragrances. So it is exactly the same juice.

Bought a 250ml bottle. I finally have my precious! <3

Arsenal Till I Die

Can be described in two phases for me. Terrible soapy opening followed by a beautiful drydown.

Mitchsmellsreallygood

So versatile. So deep. So timeless.
Ambre Nuit is honestly so highly regarded by our community for good reason. There have been some words said about it, no doubt. It works so well because of the way the rose accents the amber... so beautiful.
I wear it all the time. It is very versatile in my opinion, and it will always impress. It's not sweet in a gourmand way, but the understated sweetness that occurs boosts those exquisite animalistic tones.
If you like amber, you'll like this. It is seductive, fresh, and tame. It is definitely top shelf material. Do what I did--spend the $318 and get the 250ml bottle. You can easily make your money back by selling decants if you really want to.
Rating: 10/10

EDIT: I AM USING THE TERM "AMBER" BUT WHAT I AM DESCRIBING IS AMBERGRIS, OR "GREY AMBER". This is amber of animal origin, not the resin. This gives the composition animalistic tones.

frozenray

Graceful and elegant amber. Moderately sweet. Unisex.

zenais86

this is the type of scents ( dior house niche fragrances ) that have a beastt value in terms of quality! 198 euros for 125 ml? yes it is good price for this fantastic scent! I love that set of perfumes!

AMBRE NUIT is one of the most beautiful fragrance you can wear all the time , this fragrance i can say it is meaning of luxury something different and special , the oriental smell take you to the other side of the world , this fragrance talks without any words, it’s unique, its story of luxury ..

How I initially got introduced to this scent? Years ago I order a bottle of DHI (previous signature scent, what a BEAST) from a Dior boutique and they gave me a 1 mL sample of Ambre Nuit. Instantly I was blown away. So much that I had ordered a 7.5 mL sample so that I could wear it for my wedding and saved it for special occasions. The price did limit me to buy a bottle but eventually I gave in because this juice is unlike anything I've ever tried before. Right away you get a dash of bergamot with a subtle rose scent that lingers in the background. Soon after the ambergris kicks in and creates what IMO is the best fragrance ever. Projection is limited, I don't feel like it overpowers a room. Not necessarily a bad thing if you don't want to anger everyone in an office. The great thing is you can smell this scent on you all day (14+ hours on skin, next day on clothing). It's a masterpiece by Dior.

I hear rumors of a reformulation coming and glad I bought an 8 oz. bottle. Really hope this one doesn't get botched.

Recently, I had a life changing experience by going over to Italy, alone mind you, the one Brother with a long denim cape and a backwards cap. I am very, very proud of my New York "heritage" but my awareness as a wordly citizen connects me to everywhere I go.
On my way home from that trip, I decided that I would do certain things to straighten my life out spiritually, and it has helped. Including other medicinal remedies.
I'd grab a brand new job while starting a business or four, and do what I liked, while living. This is what will lead me into the next, more independent era of my life, which has ran through almost all eras of FashionStyle from the 20's to the WASP-ish 50's at Brooklyn College, to my 80's feelings now.
I've learned to aggregate what is positive in my life to manifest what I want, and it's even affected those around me! Nonetheless, I happen to work on the same block as a Dior shop, and I stumbled in there, looking for some new juice. Juice, by the way, being a strong part of what's gotten me back to a state of homeostasis. As a teen, I wore Polo (green bottle), early 20's, Grey Vetiver, and now, Bel Ami Vetiver and the like have fallen into my lap at the ripe agelessness of 30.
And although Bel Ami, La Nuit De L'Homme and even Cannabis by Malin + Goetz agree with my chemistry, nothing quite, quite, quite, has ever agreed with it like Ambre Nuit.
I felt it necessary to give an entire backstory to what smelling good can do, as all energies can influence a mood, and senses are but a tool to do so, such as eyes when you want to wear a brighter color to feel good yourself.
It feels...It feels as though Ambre Nuit is inside of me. Lol.
I remember growing up and seeing Spiderman fight the symbiotic before the Venom saga, and the symbiote taking over Spiderman--thats the same feeling I have, in the sense of it bringing out the deepest sense of mystery I have for myself, as a man who just wants to smoke a joint beneath the Eiffel Tower, wearing all Black, and sunglasses, smelling exactly like a plume of this.
The plume certainly lends itself to the rose in this, and the mysterious amber that reminds me of a quiet street in Rome, where the Sun casted shadows only Egyptian astronomy could realign for me to see again.
Ambre Nuit is more of a mood than a fragrance. It is Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. It is Mary J. Blige's My Life. It has just the right amount of melancholy and the right amount of Earth Wind and Fire. It has the right amount of sex and the right amount of Revenge of the Nerds. The Inferno of Dante meeting Mo Better Blues. Your lady will love you even more for your intrigue.
It's a dangerous bottle to sample because it will call your poor, poor wallet until it's too late, and you're holding off the rest of the world in close quarters who attempt to "get to know you better."
As I slap on my Black beret, bear witness to a new Masterpiece, and my Signature.

Absolutely stunning, one of the most beautiful evening parfume's I've ever had in my life.... and I had/have all of the high end brands like MFK, Roja etc etc. This and R.D. Fetisch are my #1 and #2 evening parfume's of all time.

This is the absolute pinnacle of all the fragrances I have tried so far. The second I first smelled it, I knew it was something special.

It smells so rich, classy, elegant and sexy. Soft, yet very deep, it's just a cut above all other fragrances. Puts Creed to shame. The rose is very strong but not in a harsh way and perfectly balanced by the amber.

The price is very high but I'd honestly say it's worth it.

Ambergris not amber.
Pink pepper? Not listed on official site
Deep masculine vibe, great scent.
Sadly low projection and longevity.

From Dior website:
top note: bergamot essence Reggio Calabria
heart note: damascena rose from Turkey
base note: ambergris from New Zealand

No doubt about there is a lot more going on here, but these three dominant notes are the most obvious ones.
Ambre Nuit is without a doubt an ambergris, not amber-based fragrance. I have a bottle of old formula (cologne) and ambergris really stands out, in a way that there was no need for searching the official website for notes, it was evident from the first wearing.

That being said, Ambre Nuit is indeed something special, a sheer perfection, really. It has that Dior haute couture old world elegance, yet it's comfortable and easy to wear; rose is big and very seductive, ambergris is glowing ennobling the rose with its mystical savory nuance and bergamot is prickly and provides the freshness. Still the sum of it is not so much as the quality of aforementioned notes itself, as the loving, serene, comforting emotions which they excite.
A beautiful, emotional fragrance for a couple to share.

Amazing perfume..Very very upscale..Superb projection really an art of fragrance

Powdery, dense, sweetish amber. Dries down to be mostly a powdery scent with some darker rose and deep amber. Really good for cold weather nights. Excellent date scent. I find this leans masculine, even though powdery rose amber seems not to based on the notes!

Great longevity on my skin (7-9 hours) with strong projection for 2-3.

An 8.5/10 for me. Probably my favorite of the Prive line and worth seeking at least a decant.

brandonmont

Very warming scent for me. Lovely rose fragrance. This is my go to scent for rainy overcast days. Longevity and projection are great as with most of the Privee line. Personally, a fragrance I could never be without.

fleurdecouture

I was lucky enough to receive a FB of this from someone who didn't feel like it worked with her skin chemistry. This will definitely be my go to scent for this fall/winter, and although it is without a doubt the quintessential sexy date perfume, I find that in the dry down, it softens and wears close enough to the skin to be day suitable as well. This is a spicy, oriental, not overly sweet amber scent, with the opening citrus notes being almost undetectable to me and the rose being very understated, all swarming in a pink-pepper haze. It is a sense of warmth in crisp weather, and it's one of those scents that keeps bringing me back to my wrists over and over again to get a whiff. A beautiful scent.

cocolover56

An 'amber' scent that truly delivers something slightly different to the cola-esque vibe ambers you may be used to. This actually smells of ambergris, so idk if that's just my nose or...
The rose is supple and the 'amber' is deep. Is it anything 'wow'? To me, no. Alas, I'm not an amber person.

I received this as a 7.5mL sample when I purchased Feve. Along with Grand Bal. I would've preferred minis of Granville, Bois d'Argent or Oud Ispahan but I really wasn't complaining. It was a joy to get to know both, although I won't be purchasing either.

hi everyone. i am a fan of dior privee collection, especially ambre nuit and patchouli imperial. yesterday i was at my barber for a beard shave. after shaving, he suggested to use an aftershave named as proraso. i said okay. he put it on my face and boom! it was a very similar smell to ambre nuit! please try this aftershave my friends.. its brand is proraso, bottle in red color, with sandalwood scent... :)

Very formal and fancy, worth your money if you're into Amber.
I'd even go far as to say might be the best Amber perfume on market!

Do you know sometimes you go to the department store, spritz a few cards, dump them in a bag then forget about them? That's what I did here...a few days later pulled it out and instantly thought 'this is divine'!
Luckily the name was on the card and now I have a bottle. Warm, rose, patchouli, good silage and longevity but not overpowering. A very easy scent to wear and the dry-down in sublime.

rnejad

Easily the best in the collection. I don't care for the rest. There's a boozy amber/rose opening and the classic Dior dry down accompanied by ambergris. A lover of any of these notes needs to smell this. Every perfumer has their best scent where the DNA of their creation really shines. This is easily Demachy's best work yet. If you've tried the house's other offerings such as Dior Homme and didn't quite see where the chalky Iris fit into the picture, this will make things very clear.

Ky1227

Such a simple fragrance yet so unique. I fell in love with this one after one wearing and need it in my collection. Has a floral/ambery and somewhat spicy powder feel. I get a very clean scent from it, and I love wearing it in the office, although I did have a co-worker say it smells like a "gross woman's perfume" so maybe don't expect tons of compliments. I get slightly above average performance which I can't complain with!

Overall I'd give this scent 4 out of 5 stars. Its not my favorite in the world, but it is very good.

phenomenal

I picked up a bottle of Oud Ispahan and it was a bit watered down compared to my older sample I had.

I got a sample of Ambre Nuit from Dior and it has weak sillage and performance on my skin. I felt like I sprayed a heavy amount but it didn't do much, I occasionally was reminded it was there with some pleasant amber scents but for the most part it's presence was a bit lax.

I wanted to pick up a bottle of this, but now I do not.
Same story with leather oud. Has everything in this line been toned down?

Update:

Isn't ambre nuit supposed to be an ambergris fragrance, not an amber fragrance? Why is ambergris not even listed as a note? I am confused.
