A light, airy, effervescent and ethereal scent. If fairies existed, this is what their scent would be like. This scent is elevated and has a purity fit for angels.

It is considered a preferred wedding fragrance for good reason. It is like Brut Champagne mixed with Sprite and Club Soda when it is fresh.

As it macerates, it turns into Champagne, Ginger Ale and Sprite with more sillage. Then it has a similar DNA to Tommy Girl with the heavier Jasmine notes but a tad less sweet.

It is a beautiful scent but it does not have lasting sillage due to it's light profile (or until it macerates). It is like a whisper after the initial blast.

The modest bottle design does not do it justice as a more ornate crystal faux diamond encrusted design would have been more apt.

It is the counterpart to EL's Pleasures and I would say EA's Splendor is more fizzy or bubbly.

FlowerSeeker

Wow, a luscious spring bouquet in a bottle! As a big floral from the 90’s it does have a touch of that vintage vibe. Some Arden scents can be overwhelming or underwhelming for me, however this is lovely.

AshBud

To me Splendor is very bright, sparkly, fresh white floral. Along the lines of Gabrielle Chanel, Elizabeth Arden 5th Ave, and J'adore Dior. But I can also see how this can come across as a bathroom spray depending on the person. I often reach for this if I want something that smells pleasant, but still light and airy.

Cindy814

This is almost the amber floral version of wild bluebell by Jo Malone. Similar green and aquatic (melon) opening, white and purple floral hearts, powdery dry down but more rich and sensual. The green notes in this one might come from hyacinth.

Sabina8019

I usually love Elizabeth Arden scents, but this one - a big no. Very generic, old fashioned and cheap smelling. Very "public restrooms" spray style scent.

dezaval

Imagine an english cottage, with a garden in full bloom in spring. This comes to my mind with this frag. It's very floral, green and dewy! Impressive!

Fainkfrag147

A really pretty floral scent. Classic and clean. I don't think it smells dated. Reminds me a bit of J'adore and L'eau d'issey. The only thing is that the part of the atomizer feels super cheap and the metal part is a bit loose on mine. But thats ok, can't complain cause it smells really good for the price I paid.

molten_pearl

"nice and not too strong,"

A generic, mature woman floral. I suspect I've smelled this same perfume DNA countless times in public because it evokes memories of riding the bus and speaking to my middle school librarian.

The top notes upon initial spray form a green floral. My nose cant pick out the specific notes, but it smells like a big green and white bouquet. However, what was surprising was the dry-down. On me, it turned into a very subtle and clean kind of scent. Almost soapy but not quite. The musk notes have their moment to shine in the dry-down, and I appreciate it.

I suspect if they dialed down some of the green florals in the opening and rebottled this stuff, it could have some popularity as a "clean girl" perfume.

Performance is meh. However, it is a good contender for a work-friendly, non-offensive daily scent for when you can't be bothered to think about what you wear. I doubt it will have people chasing you down the street. However, a coworker with a fragrance sensitivity once complimented me on it because it was "nice and not too strong,".

IVamp

The only Elizabeth Arden that I like. A rich and sparkling flowery bouquet, great for sunny spring and summer days. The hyacinth in it is really intense, if you don't love this scent, you will probably find it unpleasant. It's not very long-lasting, the presence is subtle, intimate to weak sillage. Nice option for everyday wear in warm weather. Good value for the money.

MTK82

This was my very first designer perfume in high school! I saved up money to buy this and was absolutely in love with it! Quite a magical scent, so nostalgic and lovely.

sofiamagnolia

It’s such a wonderful, elegant, light, and fresh scent!!! I blind bought this because I love the bottle and my mother owns EA 5th Avenue and I think they actually smell a bit the same at first. I’m not an expert on fragrances but I can say that if you like the semi-grandma smell (it does have some youthfulness to it because of how fresh it smells), and you like white florals, you’ll love this. Be careful overspraying though, it may cause headaches.

SundayGirl07

Nice, bright and clean florals upon first spraying. The dry down is very nice and soothing. Like a rich creamy skin lotion. If you like florals this would be a really safe blind buy. I really don't see anyone disliking this one.

DariaDark

Elizabeth Arden is for years my go-to anyday, anytime and for a good reason. Just today, I blind bought this masterpiece when I had a stressful day at work. It took one spray to the air to completely turn me around! Now I'm relaxed and happy and I smell like a fairy goddess. Imagine sunny afternoon in a tastefully designed flower garden with a gazebo under old willow trees and maybe a little pond with goldfish...The tea is on the table with scones and sandwiches, gentle breeze brings the scent of flowers to you... First, you press your nose to a hyacinth but it's a bit too close, rather you lean back and enjoy it from afar with Lilly of the valley and lilies, peonies, magnolias, soft wisteria, jasmine, roses and lilac... but those scents are very delicate, just flying in the wind. Your hand in laced glove brings a cup of jasmine tea to your lips... smells a bit like bergamot and green apple too.

Some scents are nice and cosy, but that's that. Others, like this one, paints a whole lively picture in your head. You think it's outdated? I say it's been around for all this time for a good reason. In times when everyone jumps on every crazy niche mix (I'm looking at you, Bal D'Afrique with your play dough novelty!), I'm turning back to vintage classics. They will make you stand out just as much and they will be loved long after the fashionable "nobody-smelled-like-this-before" trend dies. Because cliché is cliché for a reason (and I say this as a relatively young person).

To a less poetic note, the hyacinth opening is a bit harsh. But it only lasted a few seconds and the rest of notes balanced it beautifully. Someone commented that this is a sister of The 5th Avenue... Sister indeed, but not a twin. This one is a bit soapy but in the same time it's not too light, nor too heavy (as I expected from the notes), very elegant, like a long summer dress. The drydown does remind me of something dated, but it's far from unpleasant: it's still a pretty flowery dated trail, like an old favourite soap or a cup of tea that gone cold. To me, this, just like the 5th Avenue, is a year-round scent, fit for day and night, office, party, date, opera... I am deeply in love with the 5thA and I will repurchase it forever, not sure about this one yet. I lean strongly towards YES, ABSOLUTELY! so far.

Alces Alces

Beautiful clean green cold unsweetened floral. Smells like spring but good for any season. Loads of notes nobody thinks of anymore, once fashionable first names: hyacinth, wisteria, lily. Timeless, yet so affordable. Elizabeth Arden is the queen of inexpensive ladylike florals that smell as if they cost much more than they do.

I get a powdery note down in this which I really enjoy even more than the opening. The opening is straight up florist shop, but after ten minutes it’s makeup bag.

Just my type.

Kuty22

This fragance smells nice and elegant to my nose.
But it's so not me, there's not enough fruits in it, not sweet enough.

Scented Teacher

Run far far away from this synthetic, instant headache.
Blind buy that went badly wrong.
It's a cross between cheap smelling floral bubble bath and floral bathroom cleaner.
So so strong I had to scrub off immediately.

swedishmilk15

The bottle is just SOOOO pretty! A nice spring floral, I don't get much amber warmth.

UnearthlyApothecary

Splendor is one of those spring in a bottle scents. A green tinged floral bouquet with a bit of fruit but I consider this one to lean more floral then fruity/floral. I don’t get the comparisons to Beautiful, I vastly prefer this Splendor, Beautiful is very sweet and can be cloying, there is just the right amount of sweetness here. Does not smell cheap or “synthetic” at all. A very big beautiful scent for an incredible price. Great silage/longevity.

unlitcigar

Splendor starts out with the top notes of Anais Anais but does not have the more beautiful notes of Anais Anais. It quickly turns to smell like faberge brut for men. I do get lovely green flowers throughout hence I am not complaining in the least. I don't even mind that 80s feel present in almost all latest scents and soaps of that time (thinking of white lux soap).

sitingqueen

It is a cold wet winter now. I needed something to remind me that spring will arrive eventually. A soft floral bouquet with low to moderate sillage and longevity. Definitely office suitable, and very feminine. This is beautifully constructed. Men who recoil at more flamboyant offerings should love this.

MsAd89

I was a little scared to buy this perfume blindly because it has so many notes and because of the year, I thought that maybe it would be outdated but not at all, luckily. Yes, it is a fragrance that totally fits in spring/summer and not now, but I have been using it to tell you my first impressions of its scent and longevity. Low sillage and projection, it is a perfume to be enjoyed in short distances. Longevity on the skin of 4~5 hours. The bottle is a glass bottle with precious veining very much in a vintage style, the cap is made of metal and methacrylate, robust and fits well. The atomizer works fine but it's plastic.
It is mainly floral, starts fresh due to those fruity notes and because the flowers seem to have just been watered or covered by dew in the morning. It is very difficult to me to tell you which floral note stands out, it is a very fresh bouquet and there are flowers whose notes I do not know well. I think that some of the most present are the lily of the valleys and the lily, which even when dried are accompanied by fruits where I would highlight the very fresh and juicy 🍍. I hardly notice the wood, amber and musk in the background 🤷🏻♀️ for me it remains as a floral perfume with a fruity touch. It is elegant, non-invasive. It has not turned out to be a love of my life, but it was good enough to keep and use.

kimberly_j16

I adore this fragrance, It's spring in a bottle. This is one fragrance that gets me lots of compliments. When people ask what I'm wearing almost no one has heard of it. It's way too underrated for a cheapie. It also lasts ages on me.

bel.gravia

Beautiful floral bouquet reminds me of Estee Lauder Beautiful. Unfortunately short lived and quite synthetic. Of course not expected anything else for the price.

LaughItOut

On me, the most visible is the Lilly of the valley and the freesia in this fragrance. I love it and I think it has decent longevity. I find it refined and elegant.

Lotte_Liese

This was my signature scent during my postgraduate studies. The white florals, sandalwood and musk combination made me feel like a proper woman and I finished the entire 125ml bottle within a couple of months.
To get the most out of this perfume (to last all day long), I feel you need to overspray it. Longevity is above average for an EA fragrance and projection is quite good in my opinion. You can't go wrong with this for an easy reach spring feminine scent.
Sometimes I think about repurchasing this fragrance.

Update: Deliberated and repurchased a 125ml bottle. This will most likely be the last time I do so. My nose has become very acute to rose notes and I find the rose note in this to be quite sharp and headache inducing in the opening and mid. I still like the scent, still spray liberally, but I will put it to rest once I've used up this bottle.

AMGMoonHalo

On my skin, this is a big white floral bouquet with tender roses and irises sprinkled throughout to give it a splash of color. It is a fragrant bouquet with green stems cut. 1 spritz on the back of my hand because I wasn't ready to commit to it as my scent of the day. It still going strong after 5 hours of wear. I was thinking to declutter, but this is lovely for picnic outings, spring festivals, and wedding occasions. It would be an appropriate bridal fragrance for a bride on her wedding day. If you do not like lilies, gardenias, jasmine, or very heady white floral scents, you most likely won't like this. It along the lines of Bill Blass and Alfred Sung's Pure.

ciobanu.andreea

So underrated and beautiful! It is floral, fresh, sparkling but at the same time has a discreet air to it. It hasn't got a strong silage though it lingers on clothes and especially in the room. People ignore it on the boutique shelves but luckily I will always pick it up. It is really nice and very inexpensive, highly affordable! You get a big bottle at a low price. This one is not for a woman who seeks to stand out and shriek! It is subtle, delicate, romantic, office safe and skin close.

LSAUG

This starts off w/ a green and very new hyacinth and wisteria. As it travels a crisp bergamot, juicy pineapple, and red apple come to the party. In the beginning it sort of smells like a fruit salad sitting next to a bouquet of hyacinths of early spring. After that fades away a bit lily of the valley comes w/ a greenish tea rose and a lemony magnolia and a poppy note. Poppy's do smell, we had them on the farm when I was growing up, they were my Grandmother's favorite flowers and she planted many, many poppy's around our property. They have a distinct smell green, milky and herbal, and I smell that in this perfume. This perfume becomes a bit old fashioned and soapy but I like fragrances like that so I do like this one. This quality is tamed down a bit as it dry's down w/ a base of richer darker woody notes and musks. This could be a bit headache inducing if applied w/ a heavy hand. Go light w/ this one to enjoy the pleasant bouquet. Very old fashioned though so might not appeal to post modern tastes. I can see this one being discontinued but my large bottle will be more than enough for my lifetime.

Edit: 12/2/21 I just gifted this to my elderly neighbor. She has been feeling poorly and I went through my perfume collection and pick out a few to give to her that I thought she might like. This was one of them. While this is pretty I just find it isn't my taste. She was thrilled w/ the fragrances I choice for her. It helps clear out my ever growing collection that I have now vowed to stop buying. I think I do have perfumes now for all of my moods etc... and that fit my personality.

Janney

This review is solely based off my memory, as this is the first perfume I've ever worn. Ahhh, good times. Pure nostalgia!
The initial spray is intriguing, as the pineapple seeps in first - which, to me, is an interesting note as it isn't common.
I remember it lasting on me for a good portion of the day, though there is a need to re-apply after about 4 - 5 hours.
It's sweet, but not overtly sweet. Not the cupcake kinda sweet, rather fruity.
I hope that this isn't reformulated, which is what sadly what happens to wonderful perfumes.
It's been years since I've been around a bottle. I might purchase one if it'll still be available!

I bought this offhand for nostalgia as it reminds me of an aunt and is my first Arden fragrance. This one has a familiarity about it, but I can understand why most people would pass on it: the initial spray and top notes can be a sort of bomb. The only thing I do not like about it is the pineapple at the beginning, however, I find the dry-down and soft skin scent end to be the most appealing. It is one that you will respray after an initial dislike, so you can catch all it has to offer.

Jernê Knowles

If affection with subtle doses of refinement had a materialized aroma, surely Splendor by Elizabeth Arden would well represent this "phenomenon" not added there! How can a perfume smell like "wanting good", "come here, let me warm you"?! This one manages very well to walk in this affectionate line of being, and sparingly pass a message which is explicit hour by hour in its evolution as a fragrance.

It has a delicious opening with one of the flowers I most admire in this land, the Peony, which evokes the smell of a young girl with a red ribbon in her hair and a cloth shoe rocking herself on a swing on a shy sunny day. It carries a clean, translucent odor of a reality that awakens memories not far from a happy past!

On drying it is identical to springtime Giorgio Beverly Hills Blue, with aspects of white flowers that look like they're going to get in the way, but they choose to stay in the field of cleaning itself and convey a "blue" feeling that I can't quite define, I only know that it reminds me of a clothesline with bedding drying on a ventilated day, more than sunny. Pure sensory daydream!

Absurd fixation, I almost didn't believe it when I realized about its final performance, I've tried it at different temperatures and in all of them it works beautifully, without making mistakes or failing in any aspect whatsoever. Your farewell is somewhat rustic with the presence of many aromatic woods, with an emphasis on Sandalwood which is classy and at the same time subtle, but also losing the affectionate floral touch from the beginning. An exquisiteness to the aromatic subtlety of Splendor!

moresco_rouge

Today I decided to wear Splendour. I have had it almost for a year and never really feel in the mood for it. There’s something a bit nostalgic about this scent, it smells pretty but a bit outdated. Definitely not one the younger generation would find appealing, but somehow today being a fresh cloudy day seems very appropriate.
It is definitely office safe and inoffensive and I am even finding it relaxing. It is not one I will reach for often, but it is has a place in my collection and for the price you can’t complain at all.

Lavender999

Very boring. Can kind of smell the pineapple but the floral smell overpowers it. Smells very mature.

alsa7

As March has started and we exchanged bouquets of flowers, I felt appropriate to wear this splendid perfume.
This is what March flowers smell like, this is the very scent of Spring when it's emerging from the white snowy robe of winter.

annasarahr121

I picked up Splendor today at a discount store and am unfortunately not enjoying it much. Maybe I was expecting more of a tuberose white floral -- which it is definitely not; no tuberose in the notes. I love hyacinth and lily of the valley, though, enjoying those notes in such classics as Anais Anais, and you definitely get that in the opening of Splendor. But as it dries down, Splendor just falls flat. It doesn't have the sparkle and edge (black currant?) that Anais Anais has, and seems to me to resemble its boring, nondescript, shampooey sister scent, 5th Avenue. In addition, there's almost a weird rubber tire smell in the bottom of Splendor, but not a pleasant rubber tire smell such as in Bvlgari Black (which also has subtle heavenly roses and tea). The lily of the valley also made me want to smell it alongside Elizabeth Taylor's Gardenia (another cheapie that I picked up and don't think much of), but Gardenia is more pleasant (if still boring AF) than Splendor because it lacks the rubbery undercurrent. I probably will just pass Splendor on to my daughter or friends and see what they think.
*************
You know, it's so funny with perfumes how I can reject something at one moment, then completely rethink it after I've detoured through & discovered another fragrance that suddenly seems to illuminate the original one I rejected! So, this time, the detour that has helped me appreciate EA Splendor was via My Burberry (the original one). What was the key? Sweet pea! I've discovered I like a sweet pea note and I can smell it in both My Burberry and Splendor. In fact, it's that sweet pea note that distinguishes Splendor from a very similar fragrance that I thought I liked better, Paul Sebastian Casual, and makes Splendor now my favorite of this genre! So, my advice to you is don't get rid of fragrances you're not crazy about (or even genuinely don't like); just put them aside in a box (or in your daughter's room!) and test them out again in a few weeks, months, or years.

mldaleali28

I love all the notes listed here, except apple and pineapple. Well, that’s all I can feel, green apple. Flowers just pass by very quickly on my skin and I’m being left with a green apple shampoo. Dissapointed.

orffnenav

cookygirl

I treated myself to a few fragrances recently and this was one of them - a blind buy that was cheap enough not to agonize over if it didn't work out.
The first sniff, from the bottle, triggered a scent memory that I couldn't quite place. I knew it reminded me of something in my distant past - something with a very prominent hyacinth note from the seventies or eighties - but I couldn't figure out what. At first I thought Charlie, but this was much softer, slightly fruitier and much less strident.
The next day I did a skin test and then it hit me: Splendor is, to me, very reminiscent of Anais Anais which was one of my very first scents back in high school. It must be the hyacinth/lily/combination.
I love hyacinth forward scents, even if they are not trendy now and I'm so happy to have this in my collection.

D3G

I had wind blowing around me and I have got different notes, a bouquet of flowers.
7 hrs later and I still smell the base that's similar to Arden Beauty, to me

D3G

that's what I like, it's soapiness... freshness. At first I've got the sweet, just to awake the senses and then it turn. I can't really say what note it's more prominent but it's a very good blend .... cosy

TexasOrangeBlossom

Too floral for me so I gave it to my 14yo daughter. She loves it and it smells great on her. Soft and feminine, clean and fresh. Longevity is good for an inexpensive fragrance.

Jocovt11

This smells like lilacs to me, which isn’t one of the notes. My daughter had brought home lilacs from a friend’s yard and put them in a glass right in front of a fan to try to spread the lilac smell. I originally ordered a bottle because my beloved grandmother wore it, and when it arrived I sprayed my wrist, and a lilac scent filled my senses. I had my daughter smell my wrist, didn’t tell her anything about it, and she exclaimed, “Lilacs!” No matter what notes are in it, it’s very beautiful.

what is this I don't even

Gorgeous crisp green floral with a touch of soapiness from the freesia. Another beautiful iteration of the classical LOTV+hyacinth pairing.

marie rose

Clean green floral.
Makes you go Ahhhhhh...
Lingers all day. Lily of the valley, hyacinth, lily and green.

Signature worthy.
F-A-V-O-R-I-T-E OF MINE.
Floral beauty that ticks all the boxes.

I feel so pretty when I wear this.
I think this is what a perfume is made to do!

Хубав аромат носещ усещане за плаж или по-скоро плажни масла и лосиони. Единствено зюмбюла идва в повече и сякаш разваля удоволствието

JustSimpleThings

(Based on the opening)

Nice, non-offensive, soft, fresh. Green apple and lily-of-the-valley dominate the composition to my nose.

Unfortunately, longevity is quite poor.

Update:
I tested this again, and noticed that this dries down quite powdery (lily-heavy). Just a warning, you might want to be careful, if you don't like powdery florals, this probably won't vibe with you.

I much prefer the opening compared to the dry-down of this perfume, unfortunately.

scentsational taste

This is the mature version of daisy on me. First blast very soapy and serious then it settles into a sweet floral if you could bottle the season of spring this is what it would be. It has a tiny resemblance to 5th avenue but I dare say it's a bit nicer than that. The bottle is a little old fashioned could do with a revamp then I think it would attract more customers. Has very good lasting power especially on clothes.

Tasali

My first thought after spraying this on my wrist was "Nonono not another soapfume"! But after just a few seconds I could clearly smell hiacynth, then I noticed the wisteria and some lily-of-the-valley.
It became powdery pretty fast though and a discrete soapy smell came sneaking back.
Normally I dislike that sharp, classic smell of soap that overwhelmes all other notes in vintage perfumes, but luckily it is more gentle and soft in Splendor. I will keep this.

Coffee King

This is such a pretty, powdery, clean smelling floral. I think it's a case of course of the branding once again, with Elizabeth Arden considered a more mature house. It's super cheap, performance defies the price.

Plenty of floral notes to detect, but it's the Lily of the valley that dominates, I get Jasmine here also. It's perfect for someone that doesn't like heavy perfumes, it's a light, pretty, inoffesnsive floral. Very good.

Little_Petit

I had this perfume, unfortunately on my skin the smell was not pleasant, I had to donate it.

yayimah

I have quite a large perfume collection and none of them have ever made me queasy. This has been the only perfume that almost made me throw up after smelling it. There's a note in it that I just couldn't handle.

MediaevalWench66

Truly a lovely floral, with a clean powdery drydown.

My 125ml bottle is the 1998 original version. I haven't smelt the later version/s, but I do intend to buy one, as it's so inexpensive.

I remember when I first tried Splendor there was an odd note that really did not agree with me. It may have been the sweet sticky pineapple. Like pineapple, grapefruit smells odd on me. I think it smells of cat pee, my daughter say B.O! I'm avoiding both grapefruit/pineapple perfumes from now on

I rediscovered Splendor when I was sorting through my collections and sprayed it. The pineapple was gone! I'm left with a lovely floral bouquet! I'm so happy with it now. I will edit my review when I get a current formulation.

Georgia.24

Continuing on my hunt for classic, older fragrances I stumbled upon Elizabeth Arden's "Splendor" fragrance, for dirt cheap on sale - around $15 for a bottle. I love a few other EA fragrances that i've had the privilege of owning. The notes sounded appealing and I figured it was a pretty safe blind buy, which was correct. Splendour is a gorgeous spring scent, I'm agreeing with other reviewers who mention this being "spring in a bottle" or reminiscent of springtime. Its a light soapy floral, with the lily of the valley and jasmine notes being standouts for me, the multiple wood base notes are most present when first sprayed. As it dries down, it becomes lighter - yet still strong but not in an overpowering or obnoxious way, its long lasting and lingers on the skin beautifully. This scent smells classic, it does smell older - but not in a negative way and while it could be worn by anyone of any age it does feel more mature than some other fragrances on the market. It is deep, powerful and commands your attention - in a polite way.

Coffee_Girl

I used to think that skin chemistry was some kind of perfume conspiracy until I tried Splendor. Look at what people voted as the "primary notes" according to their nose...on my skin all I smell is amber, opium, and cloves...it is VERY strong, stronger than the smell of lily of the valley which lingers below the surface. Either my bottle is very vintage or my skin enhances these notes.

Either way the strong spices make this fragrance verge on being a floriental to me. I am Asian so I grew up around oriental smells, my parents used to take me to this chinese herbal shop that was also a flower shop next door. This perfume smells exactly like 5 spiced cranberry gummies surrounded by white soapy flowers.

I kinda like it but i also find it a little strange, it's certainly a "different" perfume...not generic at all. I will have to wear it more to see if i truly love it.

Lyla Rose

If I could name this scent it would be spring in a bottle.
I remember blind buying this fragrance when I first started collecting fragrances. I was very unexperienced back then and extremely sensitive to stronger scents. After failing to be able to wear it I donated this scent. Now, years later, my slightly mature nose craved for this beauty once more and when I saw it at the local drugstore for an unbelievable low price I decided to give it another chance. It smells just as I remembered and even more beautiful. The hyacinth is the queen of this scent in my opinion, followed by lily of the valley.
This is a beautiful, classic spring flowers bouquet, elegant with an edge. It does have quite a personality, I'm glad I'm able to finally appreciate it's beauty!

Maryxcontrary

A perfect example of how price-tag does not at all reflect the quality of a fragrance
A gorgoeus floral scent that is timeless and elegant.
Utterly beautiful

Selena

I can't for the life of me say anything bad about this perfume!
I'm going to keep it short, it's perfect, it's an inviting cuddle/hug me scent.
It's warm and has the best balance of floral❤️ nothing over powering, just so so perfect.
It can be found in AUS for $15 & that's 125ml of goodness.
I've had my bottle for 3+ years, haven't used up much.
Although when I do, I feel like heaven is wrapped around me❤️❤️

I am fairly new to the world of fragrance and so a few months ago I decided I would ask everyone what they thought should be my first ever blind buy. It was between Splendor, Incredible Things, Tea Rose and JC JC.

I was persuaded to believe Splendor was my best bet and boy, it is perfect!

My tastes lean floral and sweet and feminine. Think kitten heels, vintage summer dresses and pearls. This scent is fresh and clean and ladylike. The kind of thing you'd wear to a garden party.

Because it's so cheap I figured it wouldn't last very long or project very much but I find it can linger on my skin for half a day noticeably, especially in hot weather. The projection is good too, I spray once on the front and back of my neck and I find it gives me a intimate bubble of fragrance.

I would gladly wear this to tea with Kate Middleton.

utaraiteneringa

Having read the reviews about the supposed associations with "grandma smell" of this perfume, I was quite anxious about my blind buy of Splendor. Oh well, I thought, at least it is cheap and if I'd be disappointed with it, I could just give it away to someone else.
But! Splendor is splendid! It is sheer, it is romantic, it is fresh - it's everything I'd expect from my summer perfume. Furthermore, the fragrance brings a lot of nostalgic memories for me - my hometown in the early 00's, elegant women in white platform shoes and pastel-colored dresses, gold jewelry and small, stylish sunglasses. They are drinking their cocktails in terraces, they are laughing and sharing their joyous energy - that's what Splendor is about for me. It's ideal in warm weather and it lingers beautifully throughout the day.
Therefore, if you like see-through, feminine, white floral smells - Splendor is for you. Plunge into this prettiness!

drugstore classics

Splendor is a beautiful and fresh lily with underlying floral/greens - one of the best bargains out there for floral lovers! Relatively strong and long lasting in the slightly vintage bottle I tested, this fragrance performed better for me than many a costly floral. :)

Those are the pluses, which are considerable. On the other hand, I seem to sense a sizable amount of the aroma chemical 'calone', often used to create melon, lily, or aquatic notes. Though that one chemical turns a gorgeous scent into a chemical disaster on me, it in no way deters my appreciation for a fine LILY in the best traditional sense.

When Splendor is worn on the right person, it is like Easter Sunday and a touch of laundry day combined... Evocative, fresh, and spring like.

In short, delightful!

socorrosouza

I don't see Splendor as an"old lady perfume" whatever that is (do old ladies all wear the same perfume and is it Splendor?) but as a beautiful floral scent that is relatively cheap (although not in Brazil) and offers great performance with an 8 hour longevity and a very perceptible sillage. Be sure that in future people will refer to Fantasy, HP and others (especially LVEB) as old ladies scent . A new generation always stigmatizes the older one's preferences.

daenrf

Okay, I just got a small bottle of this, and when I sprayed it on, the first thing I thought was: "oh, this is nice, but it smells like something by Yves Rocher. Pivoine? I know this scent and it smells like my grandmother."
So, for the first time ever, I've smelled a perfume and thought "old lady".

I really like it though, and I intend to use it when I'm hungry for a bouquet of flowers. The flowers are multitude and they are lovely, with an unexpectedly sensual dry down of sandalwood. It's inoffensive enough to be worn out and about, but be aware that it has a powdery quality that I didn't even notice until someone who hates powdery scents told me so.
They said it smells like a "cheap floral talcum powder", whatever that is. I pointed out to him that he hasn't worn a powder, cheap or otherwise, in his life, so he couldn't possibly know what that smells like. He retorted that is smells like an old lady.

Usually, when I hear a perfume described as an "old lady perfume" I jump right in, because that in general means it's not the typical sugary blandness everyone's pumping out at the moment, and I'm going to love it. But in the case of Splendor, I might agree with that assessment. So when I wear it, and I will wear it, I expect teenagers to give me their seat on the bus, goddammit.

New review based on the bottle I own now. On me, this is a warm, soft, clean, floral scent. I say warm because it's not sharp. It's a daytime and Spring, maybe Summer fragrance. Very safe, timeless and classy.

I can't say much about projection because I get used to fragrances too fast, so I don't notice them after a while. Right now, I can smell Splendor softly even as I'm typing, so at least I can smell it at half an arm's length. When just spritzed I can smell it at arm's length for some time.

EA fragrances more often than not suit my skin chemistry, whether I actually like the fragrance or not. This is a non-sweet fragrance that suits me, that I quite like.

This is strange, there's something that comes off as cashmere warm on me even though there isn't casmeran -anything in Splendor.

intesmas

Splendor is a clean white flower bouquet with a subtle woody base, I am not able to detect any fruity or citrusy traces. Although not a listed component, it reminds me of lilacs -- at least the smell of the lilac plant in a neighbouring garden --, which must come from the dominant wisteria.

With Splendor you get an elegant, clean, and nonintrusive fragrance that lasts a couple of hours, all this for a good price. I like to wear this in spring and summer, its versatility makes it a good option for any given occasion.

Shwets

I cant believe i had this perfume 10 years ago and couldnt stand it. Now i love it!

Only a couple of days ago i was literally following a lady whilst walking my dog as she smelt lovely. Like spring. It suddenly occurred to me, whether it was Splendor - which is odd as i hadn't smelt it in 10 years nor did i like it.

So the next day i tested it in store and swore it smelt much better (as though its been reformulated) than years back. I noticed how it lingered to the following day and couldnt get it out of my mind. So i ended up purchasing 2 bottles on offer.

This is coming from someone who cannot wear floral perfumes.

Splendor is a softer 5th Avenue yet strong with great sillage! It reminds me of clean laundry sheets and fresh feeling of being in the shower. It also has a touch of freshness that i find in Estee Lauders Pleasures and a hint of aquatic like sharpness that i find in Cool water. Theres also a creamy lotion quality about it too.

I cannot believe how underrated this perfume is and am so fortunate that it doesnt make me feel sick and that i'm able to tolerate it.

The bottle is so adorable: simple, it doesnt take up much space, easy to hold and elegant.

Yah-el

As many have said – clean, soapy and lovely flowers. It's a nice fresh combination.

Splendor is different from almost every perfume that I own. I like that about it. It reminds me a little of Malachite Special Edition (Banana Republic). I really like it, but I can't say I love it. This is the first night that I'm wearing it, so maybe by the end of the night I'll be in love – sort of like a surprising blind date.

The bottle is beautiful, the fragrance is beautiful and, considering the previous two points, the price is even more beautiful.

For $15AUD, I was able to walk out with this and a bottle of Blue Grass. As I love Elizabeth Arden, this was a must. I usually blind buy them because they are cheap enough to justify it.

The Elizabeth Ardens unfortunately all open in a rather 'same ish' type way, that makes it hard to instantly fall in love. But wait! What's this? Hyacinth and LotV? My two loves come out in a bouquet of pure love. I adore this fragrance! I even wear it on cold chilly evenings.

I get amazing longevity, probably more than 9 hours. I like to pair it with the Sunflowers body lotion (don't have any body prdocuts for this, sadly) and a lotv body powder with it. It works so amazingly.

a beautiful bright floral bouquet an opulent aldehyde chypre type of retro yet wearable floral summery springy truly uplifting sunny perfume..bright and shiny and sparkly soapy and clean with lots of white florals and hints of musky accords a bit like estee lauder s pleasures mixed with alfred sung sung with the black spray nozzle and clear glass bottle ..those types of florals turn a bit like bug spray if i spray them directly to my skin but thats just my skin chemistry which doesn't do well with such accords but lately i ve been forcing myself to go that direction coz i feel i am enjoying their bright floral aspect so i spray spangly on clothes and try not to let it touch my skin and hoping that i wont end up with sever headaches from the white florals at least in this case they are not so indolic or creamy they are light bright white and beautiful in a nostalgic way ..a perfect summer fragrance a truly classy/frenchy/chypree beautiful elegant floral with hints from queleqes fleurs l'original ..a safe everyday scent that you can wear to work or to a dinner or lunch or simply to do your earned..beautiful on clothes very fresh has hints from estee lauder estee super spray that super clean almost zesty green chypre accord that hits you like a burst of alcoholic shock that travels up your nostrils and infuses your lungs with a huge amount of a clean chemical floral musky aldehydic chypre accord i think this works beautifully in hot weather in humid weather in dry weather in tropical sunny weather its a day time perfume more of an uplifting invigorating silvery sparkly white floral accord

Decodawn

Hello from Deco Dawn this is my review of Elizabeth Arden Splendor. I absolutely love this fragrance it is 'sparkling' from the first spray a beautiful feminine blend of Aldehydes white flowers and the dry down is soft and feminine. I love the bottle design as I am an 'Art Deco' fan this style is very much en vogue in 2017. This fragrance does not smell old at all it sits perfectly well with all of the contemporary fragrances available today. Age irrelevant and perfect for day and evening use. Ideal for Spring Summer and as a Wedding fragrance either as a bride or guest as so romantic. Just heavenly. Well done to Elizabeth Arden. I bought this as a blind buy after reading some of the reviews on here and I am so pleased. Spendor is very much an 'Arden' fragrance I get traces of 5th Avenue but it's not as Green at the opening. If you can purchase a bottle for a reasonable (cheap) price do not be put off by that or the Blue box and bottle this is NOT a granny scent at all. Ideal for holidays to hot climates and travel. I recommend decanting into a refillable atomiser. Try it you will love it.

nightcutter

Quite lovely but despite the glut of notes described above I only pick up LOTV, magnolia and a hint of soap. It behaves differently depending on temperature: in summer I find it is sweet and powdery but in winter it is greener and crisper. It might not be innovative but at its inexpensive price it doesn't have to be.

Nikkafragrance

Sorry, I suppose this is gonna be a unpopular opinion, but the initial spray for me is a chemical burst of alcohol. I can smell some lily of the valley and wisteria. I bought it mainly for that note. It has nice silage and I am giving it a like, but cheap performance overall. Elizabeth Arden has much better fragrances.

LinaLenz71

Where was I before? Spring, sun, colourful fields of flowers, joy and serenity. I love this fragrance. To my nose it's something between Envy and Flore. It makes me dream beautiful memories I never had. Hyacinth is very prominent and I adore it with all my heart. Yes it's not Dior or Chanel. But... It doesn't have to be for me to wear it. The price after all doesn't have to determine the choice. Trust your nose only. So dream is - me wearing a light blue dress, looking up at the blue sky, breathing magical aroma and getting higher(above the earth lol) with every breath till slowly flying like a bird above those flower feelds...

ElleNell

This is a little gem of a perfume. Previously I would have passed off as I like my expensive perfumes but found this in my moms wardrobe and was pleasantly surprised. A very, very PRETTY and CHARMING fragerance. A lot of people give out that it looks old fashioned but this is what I LOVE about it as like all things a little vintage and retro. It's an old perfume that is why you always see offers on it but by no means is it a cheap juice. It's just really lovely. Smells like a meadow or walking through a garden of delicate white and pink flowers. Very feminine with a slight vintage feel which is a VERY good thing! Xoxo

manuel-2

Sorry for my english by the google translate. At first this
perfume smells only jasmine. It is a cheap perfume.
After a while it smells better and especially after washing
with water. It is mainly a summer fragrance with
good length. It is a medium quality perfume.

FireDragon76

I forgot that I had this fragrance once. It was gifted to me and at the time I was pretty quick to judge fragrances and for whatever reason, I didn't appreciate this one and it sat in a cabinet until I threw it away.

Looking over the notes, I'm pretty sure I'd like it today. if I'd kept the bottle, I'm not sure it would've become a favorite, but I would've used it often and used it up fast.

Announcement: I've just repurchased a 30ml bottle that would've been dirt cheap at 90 original DKkroner but I just bought it on sale for 54 kroner and I'm waiting for it to arrive in the mail (with my other beauty and skin care purchases) and I can't wait to review it again but instead of leaving 2-3 new reviews, I might only leave a short update on this review and then write a new review at the end of Summer when I expect to have used the bottle up.

socorrosouza

On my skin it is a refreshing, scintillating sophisticated scent that lasts over 8 hours with a sillage that is like a cloud, felt by everyone in the room but lightly. It is one of the best white flower scents, along with Diorissimo and Pure Poison to my taste. It is energizing, a mood lifter, sweet but not cloyingly so. I love gourmands as well as floral, spicy and green scents and the lack of love for Splendor mistifies me. People, expand your horizons, sometimes one scent from out of your comfort zone besides broadening your horizons may become a true love. And old ladies we will all become,if we are lucky ( because the alternative really sucks).
And, btw, this is expensive as well as difficult to get in Brazil, so it took a lot of trouble to get Splendor, but was totally worthy.

Ivyswirl

I feel like I should come in and defend this a bit from its own reputation..

I kept seeing this in TKMaxx and ignored it even though it was cheap as I didn't like the look of the notes and it looked like a old fashioned mess that missed the glamour era I liked.

Ended up with it for a fiver and eventually opened it to find a youthful pretty fragrance that whilst being heavy on the Lily of the Valley, it is supported by some soft base notes and light floral. It might not move mountains and I dislike the blue box but it makes me feel pretty and clean!

As ever with Elizabeth Arden, it's surprisingly good sillage and longevity and a bargain too.

ciobanu.andreea

Interestingly, this perfume smells very citrusy on me.
After about 30 minutes, it still doesn't develop, but remain on the same notes which I would describe crispy white bed sheets soaked in lemon scent. It is strong, pungent, sour, sparkling.I also detect some flowers in the background, maybe peony and lily-of-the-valley.
But I don't dislike it. I think I will indeed spray it on bed sheets to freshen them up.

Splendor was an internet 'blind buy' for me about 2 years ago and, as with my many other blind buys, I waited with baited breath for my parcel containing my bottle to arrive.

Luckily, Splendor turned out to be one of my best perfume buys and at such an incredible bargain price for a huge 125ml bottle of EDP! It's a crisp, sheer type of floral / fruity scent that is SOOO incredibly feminine and womanly. It's not dissimilar to a perfume such as Pleasures but, in my books, Splendor far outstrips the (overrated!!) Pleasures by miles. I find Pleasures incredibly annoying for some reason (not sure why but there's at least one note in there that is very unpleasant to my nose!) and also very generically, and forgettably, floral. Splendor, on the other hand, is super charming, pretty and unforgettable. Even the apothecary type bottle with its little glass ball stopper is ore eye catching and less bland than the Pleasures bottle!

Contrary to what some reviewers seem to think, Splendor is ageless and is the type of perfume that could easily and happily be worn by women of all ages - teenagers to great-grandmothers - and because it's so crisp, fresh and enervating it could put a spring in anyone's step and make them feel fresh and youthful! Also, it's an anytime, anyplace kind of perfume - dress it up, dress it down, and is ideal for an office environment because it won't suffocate and nauseate colleagues and almost certainly will only garner compliments (especially from men!).

Splendor is a very lovely, high quality perfume with good sillage and great staying power. A little on me goes a long way and lasts for hours and hours - unlike many 'high end' perfumes, such as the lovely but quickly vanishing 'Blooming Bouquet' by Dior! I also have Arden Beauty which, just as with Splendor, smells gorgeous, high quality and lasts forever!

Life is too short to be snobby and averse to trying, and enjoying,'drugstore' type perfumes. If Splendor was marketed under the Dior label, for example, what do you want to bet that women would be going crazy for it and would be buying it in their droves? So many people blindly follow everyone else, and what they think - and are told by fashion magazines, etc - they should like and aspire to. Those types of people need to be more independent and individual and do their own thing!

P.S. I've discovered that Splendor is also gorgeous layered with Al Aneeq 'Baby Powder' perfume oil (available on Amazon.uk for around £4.00 for a 10ml rollerball - so cheap but lovely!!). I just swipe some 'Baby Powder' on my wrist and spritz a little Splendor over the top and then gently rub my wrists together and rub a little on my neck and I'm good to go! The fragrance lasts all day and night and smells SOO good ! !

oceanbreeze

This fragrance is ELEGANCE in a bottle. I loved it from the moment I saw the box and the bottle. And I loved the ad. To me it's just SPLENDID! Unfortunately, the new liquid is yellow when the old one was clear. Why couldn't they keep the fragrance of the same colour? This is what happens when a fragrance gets reformulated...

butterflyblue

This is my first lily of the valley perfume. So beautiful, and clean. This is different than any of my floral perfumes I own. I smell it most of the day. Its feminine and gorgeous!

Soofiya

I imagined splendor to be a sharp classic floral, something like estee lauder pleasure, which I also like, but don't wear often..lily of Valley mostly appears really sharp on me,so when it's dominant in a perfume,i prevent blindbuys
Splendor isn't sharp at all,it's a soft, delicate, fresh floral,a tad green, not too much, just like freshlycut florals, strong but not in a harsh way, clean but not soapy and sophisticated, but not old..it's freshness is lovely..not an aquatic or green freshness,it's about fresh, young flower petals and fruits
I love the opening part, crispy, fresh fruits blend gorgeously with florals,I can only detect some apple and a citrus note, which is not sour or zest and appears almost like linden blossom in combination with other notes,,floral part is comprised of my beloved ones, hyacinth, wisteria, lily, freesia and thanks God a non sharp lily of Valley
Woodsy notes in dry down don't turn it to a rough scent, they just stand there in background to support this lovely flower garden
I find it versatile, wearable and good for +25 years old..splendor is not a boring linear soapy classic floral,it's a sparkling, delicate but not watery floral fruity..longevity and sillage are moderate.. I really wished it was more long-lasting and projecting
Edit:
I saved my decant for spring but unfortunately now I don't like it as much as I did.honestly it's totally different with what I remember it to be.it's not as fresh and I can't detect much fruits or citruses.now I completely agree with below review.it's a combination of florals and woody notes and I can detect a strong rosewood note(I know it from dior dune).this woodyness gives it a dry, mature and deep quality which make it stand out from typical springy florals and be more sophisticated and memorable
I still see it as a recommendable perfume, wearable year round and has very good quality while being affordable and has better longevity and sillage than my previous experience but I don't like it.after couple of unsuccessful experiences I know that I can't get along well with such woody florals so I'll remove it from my wantlist.my decant is more than enough for me

juniemoon

I'm finding the woodsiness is coming through really fighting the florals in this but that's fine cause I like woods so much, it must be the Brazilian rosewood that I'm finding the uniqueness in this that I can't put my finger on what it could be I haven't smelled before, very intriguing. The pineapple is noticeable as it dries down, and I do detect the wisteria (thanks to owning Desperate Housewives!) amber and musk, yes! love! At first spray I was worried this was just another fruity floral but after ten minutes this baby sure shows her feisty personality alright, she's a keeper!

Edit - after having put this away for the winter and now in late spring, wearing this again, I am kind of amazed that I'm finding the sandalwood really coming through prominently this time around! I don't know why, maybe because it sat undisturbed for many months, but this is giving it a really nice unexpected twist. I was almost going to give this away trying to pare down my ever growing collection, but nope, keeping it for sure. It seems to have gotten stronger too, or maybe my allergies are just under better control.

Black Secret

Oh beautiful perfume! Lily-of-the-Valley is such a beautiful flower! So sweet and fresh and delicate! A truly SPLENDID perfume!

Lucius Smellfoy

Love EA fragrances like Red Door and 5th Avenue and Provocative Woman and I wanted to love this one, but my old foe lily of the valley fouls things up yet again. This is almost identical to the current formulation of Laura Ashley and although they smell pretty and maybe even unisex they both give me terrible migraines. If you like crisp green borderline sharp fragrances this is the one for you. If they hadn't gone with cheap materials for the topper I'd keep this just for the bottle but this little hooker is going back to TJ MAXX to exchange this for Kenzo Flower by Kenzo

blue angelic

Oh divine divine divine perfume! Beautiful, extremely beautiful. Lily-of-the-Valley is almost my favourite flower, and it's gorgeous in this! Oh I love it! Special special perfume!!!

anitaoolong

Could this be a sleeper winter scent?

I tried Splendor many years ago and dismissed it as it seemed too heady for me. I decided to try it again after seeing the notes on Fragrantica, as I wanted to try a perfume with LOTV.

It's winter in Melbourne, and I was expecting to be disappointed by trying a spring perfume out of season, but instead Splendor is working out surprisingly well in the cold!

The florals are light but with the warmth provided by the woody, amber base they're rugged up enough for winter wear. I think the green, spicy notes give it a retro feel which makes me think of some of the 70's green florals. Sometimes I do wish the pineapple wasn't quite so strong to my nose but it's doesn't overpower the other notes.

I like the apothecary-style bottle. I think it adds to the no-nonsense charm of this perfume. I'm glad I gave it a second chance.

maz7

I love this beautiful sweet, fresh, green florally perfume. I would like it to be a bit stronger, and last a bit longer, but I certainly don't mind putting regular top-ups on during the day! Beautiful and fresh, I love Elizabeth Arden. And I love the changes it goes through as the day goes on. All lovely light, fresh scents.

Sailor Pluto

If you are looking for a non-sweet floral, this is it! It is not at all fruity nor sweet-floral. Refreshing and green.

Cel405

I purchased this after reading the notes and decided this would be a nice change from the usual fruity-sweet scents I'm sometimes drawn to. I picked this up on sale at TJ Maxx for $6 (boy do I love TJ Maxx!) and I couldn't be happier.

This is no doubt, very feminine to me. It's a soft floral, yes, but I find that it has a good amount of longevity and strength to it. I mainly get greens and white florals, and just the tiniest bit of the apple and pineapple. I think the lily of the valley comes through the most for me, but all the notes blend quite nicely.

I don't think this smells "mature" at all. Whether a young lady in her early 20's or a young at heart lady in her 80's wears this, I think it's fitting for all.

Southern Blonde

Splendor's notes read like it should be as flowery as Beautiful or very powerful in the 80s 90s powerhouse sort of way but the chemist who put this together performed a magic trick because it's like a sweet whisper and not a loud scream. The scent opens with a fruity note of pineapple although other non floral scents appear very quickly like a sweet pea and an apple. I would say the apple is very prominent. Then the scent lingers and lasts for a long time in a garden of flowers that are each trying to get your attention: magnolia my favorite flower always gets my attention. There's hyacinth, rose, lily, poppy, orchid, jasmine and lily of the valley. Each flower is pretty detectable on it's own and not one flower is more dominant than the other. Flowers for days but again so quiet and very wearable as a day time inoffensive scent to wear to work or wherever. People love how it smells on me and want to hug me. The dry down is woodsy, just woods. Beautifully crafted, long lasting, sweet fruity floral with an elegance and romance that has become a hallmark of Estee Lauder perfumery.

SolangeN

This does have a harshness to it, but it's not the godawful cheapo musk bugspray harsh that ruins so many modern fragrances.

It's more of a "they didn't use enough aromachemicals" thinness harsh.

Vetiver isn't listed in the notes, but I get a vetiver-like "cigarette butt" waft. Smells like the old-school ashtray note I like, paired with lily of the valley. The lily isn't cloying, but it does have a slightly chemical edge.

As an earlier reviewer said, that's pretty much it.

Seems like Arden probably skimped on ingredients. A little bit of roundness and sweetness (floral, not sugar) would have filled this out nicely.

At least I'm not picking up Iso E, bugspray or cotton candy tho.

Ferminadaza

Hmmm.... reminiscent of Waterford Lismore.

I already own that scent, so this one I shan't be keeping. I personally don't find it as pretty as Lismore, because the freesia note overtakes the rest of the perfume whereas with Lismore, the freesia is strident for the first 15-20 minutes before settling down into a luscious floral bouquet.

Lismore also has better sillage and longevity. After 30 minutes, EA Splendor turns into a faint skin scent.

What amber? What sandalwood?

lindley

This goes on me like slightly sour florals, not an entirely pleasant scent. I suppose that's the pineapple and apple, but more soursob on me than tropical.

I like it a lot better once it settles into its woodsy basenotes, still keeping a lingering hint of florals. Still, not an autobuy for me even at its low, low price, and even with its pretty bottle. The only thing that made it memeorable for me was the sourness, which I didn't appreciate.

AlexisJane

Whilst I did not test this on myself, I can tell you that from the paper strip I tested this perfume on, I am impressed.

I have been curious about Splendor for a long time. So when I sprayed it on today, I was taken back to memories of being as a child, but none that specifically pointed to any one person.

Initially it started out soapy, which I didn't find pleasing, but when it dried down, I recall memories of playing outside on a showery spring day in the yard of my childhood home, and then again to the house we moved into afterwards, where the land behind our yard was amass with heavily scented wild white freesias, and I could spend hours of each day up there picking them, and never make a dent in the thick carpet of white flowers. But at the same time, it smells like the scent a warm spring, or cool summer day (in country Australia) where it's just rained enough to dampen the ground and create that ozonic scent that is cool but warm and familiar at the same time.

The scent on the card lasted quite a long time, and whilst the smell isn't overly strong, it's something that can be easily detected by the wearer. This is definitely a future purchase.

Update:
I purchased the perfume. It was similar on my skin to the first impression I had of it on the card. There are no fruits in this, it's all flowers and wood. Bright, cool, warm-spring-cool-summer day flowers in a pine forest, with the most prominent floral notes upon opening lily-of-the-valley and sweet pea, and on the drydown, mostly hyacinths and freesias. It's slightly sweeter than I got on the card, and last a moderate length of time, but for the price for a 125ml bottle, I don't mind respraying. It's also only moderate sillage, so I don't mind spraying a lot on.

I would not necessarily say this perfume is 'clean' so much as I would call it 'spring-showered on', because it's fresh and very, very, very bright and sparkling, but not soapy and clean you've been bathing. But saying that, I can also say this probably ISN'T a general crowd-pleaser, despite the many layers it has, only for the reason it's so very floral with little else to recommend it but the complexly arranged bouquet of flowers it offers you from start to finish.

Normally packaging isn't a big deal for me, but I have to remark on the bottle being lovely. I like the bottle particularly because of it's simplistically elegant design. It looks good, sitting among all my bottles of perfume, even if they are inside a cupboard where they aren't openly displayed (try preserve the integrity of your perfumes, people).

All in all, this is LOVE. My go-to (and only) for fresh scents was Green Tea Lotus, also by Elizabeth Arden, because it's a real pick-me-up when you've been sweating or exercising to any degree, but I think I might have move that to back of the shelf because I prefer this, because I adore super florals, and that one being a more citrus-lotus-tea doesn't really do it for me all the way. Move aside GTL, Splendor's taken your place.

may.dabb

((Side note :I bought this fragrance because my close friend had it. However when I got mine it was definitely not the same. It was the exact same bottle but hers said "splendour" on it and mine didn't. It just smells nowhere near as complex as hers and I'm thinking maybe since she got hers they had reformulated it.))

This is a very, very strong thick floral smell. The note I get first is Jasmine followed by hyacinth and later a twinge of tropical fruits. It's feminine yet masculine, it's floral yet assertive, this perfume can be many things, Which is partly why I love it so much.

I would label this as a Spring fragrance, and it lasts fairly long. However it's sillage is very low and it only radiates at forearms length. It is a very mature scent, and I think only few can pull it off. Although, I think younger people can wear it, they just need to appreciate the complexity of this fragrance.

Personally I am 14 years old and this is my signature scent. I have worn it since I was 12 and my friend says it reminds her of me, we have a very close relationship so the smell holds a special place in my heart.

polkadot27

I had this perfume for a while and I did like it- it does not smell old lady like- however it does smell mature maybe for a lady 30 years plus. It is pleasant floral and fresh smelling, it is very awakening and reminds me of flowers in spring. It is very cheap, yet does not smell cheap- it is brilliant value for money. However I did use mine as room spray as I felt when I wore it, it did not suit my personality. To summarize I like the smell, the longevity and the sillage- but I don't like it on me, because it's not me and my self expression does not align with this scent. It is very out there, there is no build up with this- you get full floral in your face- it suits happy carefree women.

Pleasant, nicely blended floral scent though, very feminine and uplifting fragrance. I think of meadows and picnics when I smell this one.

I really like the simplistic, yet old school iconic elegant play it safe bottle- looks nice in any collection.

A well meaning friend gave this to me as a Christmas present when we were around fifteen - she had bought similarly priced scents for everyone in our circle. On me this clung sharp and ugly and terribly old fashioned. I couldn't help but wonder if she had bought them all as cheap, gone off testers it was so vile. The fact that she chose Splendor for me really made me rethink our friendship. No exaggeration.

I am in my 20s and I love this perfume. It's so complex yet feminine. It reminds me of the beach and summer. Very floral but needs to be sprayed sparingly.

JaxTheMinx

I've not warn this in years, purely because it stays too close to the skin and doesn't last terribly well on my dry skin. However, this is such a soft, delicate and feminine fragrance that I think it's time I gave it another chance. It vaguely reminded me of Lalique EDP which is equally soft and unobtrusive and certainly an old favourite. I would not wear this in the evening or in colder weather as it's a feather-weight.

OlfractalInfemme

A snowy purple hyacinth. Soft, cuddly, and close to the skin. A quiet muse. On the dry down, becomes fruitier... pineapple emerges and becomes sweeter and greener. Sadly, it ends up a rather nondescript and slightly screechy lily-like floral.

PLUMPIE

The most natural sweet pea/freesia scent I have ever found. It is also quite a bit like all of the fresh watery florals of the mid to late 90's such as L'eau d’ Issey, Pleasures and a less screechy Eternity to which this smells most like to my nose - a blend of florals and peppery greens which create dewy crisp fragrance with a soapy base and a touch of musk. Clean, without feeling sterile or chemical like febreeze or fabric softener, fresh and never offensive. Unlike some of my scents which I love and find gorgeous one day then aggravating a headache the next this is always wearable no matter the occasion, it's not super sexy or something you would wear on an evening out, yet no one would suggest that you smell like grandma either perhaps but it's good for daytime, and any season and I love it for casual wear (which is most of the time for me) when spritzing on my discontinued and $200+ creations feels like a crime. The price can't be beat and I have been stocking up whilst this is still readily available. A beautiful cacophony of fresh cut flowers like the aroma of a florists shop on a base of soft sandalwood soap with the peppery sweetness of sweet peas in the spring. Feminine, crisp and refreshing with an uplifting happy feeling, but not dull or boring. One of the few scents I own that I can wear in a heatwave without feeling overwhelmed.
Something in this reminds me of a tuberose/mimosa-less Beautiful Love which I have worn many bottles of but was sadly discontinued - I find this a more wearable alternative as it's not as sharp.
There definitely appears to be some differences in the recent 'Splendor' and the one I have. My bottle checks out as being from 2007 and it is a much stronger scent than my one with a batch code of production in 2013. Plus I have noticed the bottles for sales now are a slightly offwhite golden juice whereas the original was clear? Somehow they have reformulated this and whilst it is still a nice scent it's not as potent as it was which is disappointing.

angelleew

I had this and gave it away, now I want it again because I can't remember exactly how it smells...although I have to say that Arden Pretty reminds me of Splendor...not as rich as I remember Splendor to have been, and as I check the notes I see that the dominate notes of Pretty are a slimmed down version of Splendor, a kind of Splendor Breeze or Splendor Sheer. If you love Splendor, give Pretty a try. I am now going in search of another bottle of Splendor.

valbona.bergman

This was a blind buy, because of it's price i thought there should not be many regrets. Well i am not sure about it.
I have sprayed it on my hand and trying to understand where it is going.
It starts soapy and clean smelling a bit bitter also (which i hate this on perfumes, like hot couture opens on me,but bitterness persists)this bitternes is like i can taste my own bile fluid (i know ,weird, but once i had a surgery and well ok i know how it is, no more TMI sorry). Up until now, 10 minutes after spraying ,it's just bitter soap.
Will update if anything new.
The bottle is awesome though, very classy
OK i sprayed it on a fabric and i can definitely smell the pineapple, some sweetness is there very nice! But on my skin is just bitter and tangy like medicine. I will spray only on clothes and will see how it goes :)
On fabric this perfume has a very good longevity and it settles to be something like a clean sweet and fresh scent ,which is not bad at all! On the contrary it is very refreshing and ladylike! I can't determine though for which season it would be good...

After 6 hours, the perfume is still going strong on the fabric, crisp, fresh ,sweet but not sickly at all and very elegant! I can wear this in a beautiful morning for a walk ,a coffee with friends or at work of course, it's not heavy at all. I can say it turned out very good, although in the beginning it was a bit scary. The end of the review :)

whimsicalpopsicle

It was a blind buy for me. Way too many flowers for my perfume taste but there's something ... I've tested it many times, tried to like it, gave up on it and then started spraying it on my blazer rack. Just to use it up. I gave it another shot today because there was something making me restless ...I have it on my wrist today and I finally got it. It smells like those retro flower scented little soaps that my mum was buying, we put them in wardrobes, in between nicely folded clothes.

I remember these soaps being too strong for my nose but I imagine they were so strong so that when you took a bath, it stayed on you a bit. Just like on my clothes after having those soaps around.

After an hour it's exactly that flower scent. Now I just have to mix this with some vanilla or coconut lotion, to break that flower domination vibe.

Overall, scent with depth, such a great buy for that price!

Nikkafragrance

I have to apologize to this beautiful gem. It's very gentle, very green and it's the sping itself! The most prominent note is lily of the valley. The sillage is moderate. I have Thais by Antonio Puig, which is also a lovely lily of the valley frag, but Splendor is even more beautiful. Month ago I sprayed this frag and wasn't inpressed at all, maybe I've tried a nasty old sample.

VanillaTabbyCat1963

I have been getting rid of the excess in my fragrance collection. Those fragrances that I enjoy owning, but don't move my soul.

Completely unaware, I found a new staple in my collection. Never have I bought something so reasonable, not really knowing what I was getting, and at Ross to boot.

I knew this much. I read here on Fragrantica Splendor is a floral with what seemed as if there would be a focus on the LOTV. That sounded good. I have always been passionate about Lily of the Valley to the point I had to retire from wearing it for several years. Happily, my soul sisters Lily of the Valley,Lilac,Wisteria and Lavendar have reclaimed their place as my top of the heap favorites in my in-the-beginning favorite category the die-hard florals. Really, I am just an old fashioned girl with her heart in the nineteenth century, and feet in the 21st.

Splendor is an olfactory journey through a garden of my favorite flowers. This garden is resplendent of the sweet-tart accord filled of powdery purples and blues.

I am in heaven.

I bought my bottle of perfection for peanuts at Ross. How can that be??

Splendor is perfect .Perfect in it's presentation of itself. It' s so much better than so many pretty fragrances that I have paid four times more for.

I get the pure flower essenses without the chemical backdrop that many of the modern, commercial perfumes of today possess. It is simply flowers, clear and bright. Nothing to detract for the pure simplicity, which I love.

I hope Splendor will be available for a long, long time.

An interesting layering trick is mixing Splendor with a couple spritzes of Insolence and a little LouLou before bedtime. It's the violet and heliotrope addition that helps me sleep. But really, it's Splendor on it's own that makes me happiest.

Pure magic!

Dayi Marquez

I recently purchased this fragrance and I must say that I am very pleased. I think it smells the way I expect a woman to smell like it is pretty, clean, fresh, feminine, floral and light. These notes are put together quite nicely. I feel very pretty when I use this perfume. I actually perchased this for $20, what a great price. I also think this fragrace is perfect to waer to work. I am very pleased. This will be a staple in my collection.

Carolann59

This is a nice surprise and I hightly recommend it ...Pretty, light, floral, fruity and a good buy for the EDP. Good longevity (about 4+ hours on me).

It's whispers - no shrill notes here - I get a burst of Lilly of the Valley up front which quickly gave way to pineapple. Where's the rose, I wonder? It finishes with (finally!) soft Hyacinth and LOTV so I am extremely pleased! the more I wear it the more I like it.

Best for cooler Spring-like weather, though...in the heat it turns into something unpleasant on me.

nitschevo

Crisp, clean, slightly powdery and sweet. Every time I wear Splendor I receive a lot of compliments, so I should really wear it more often and intend to do in spring and summer 2014 :)
Splendor is a truly lovely floral fragrance. I love Lily of the Valley so naturally I'm sold. I'm not sure which of the notes is stronger - LOTV or Hiacynth, but it really doesn't matter because the result is sooo pretty! The few fruit notes added to this composition give it a fresh quality, I assume, although the Pineapple might be responsible for the sweetness also. I am a fan of EA fragrances and cosmetics - always great value and quality for the money paid. If you love floral fragrances you should try this! I am wearing it today and layered it with a single spritz of YSL Paris to give it a little more punch on this cold winter day - the result is amazing :)

Tine1world

Thank you Sky74 and Nyoka and the rest too. Loved your reviews, and others on here on Fragrantica that can write and write well.

It's milder weather again here in Melbourne, whilst the rest of the country is smouldering in a heat wave, we have the luck to have it mild so far. The kind of weather where you flop around the house in your smart comfy clothes and the mood is casual.

The ingredients in 'Splendor' are similar to many other fragrances in my wardrobe collection, which sad to say is probably way over the top too many. But I don't care. Each of my fragrances represents a mood, and they do give me great joy.

'Splendor' is a pleasing enough fragrance, as are most other Elizabeth Arden's fragrances. Which mostly represent excellent value for money. Just recently I have seen 'Splendor' being sold for under 10 Aussie dollars for a 125 mill EDP bottle. Though I've had mine for a few years now, and paid a lot more for it then.

This is not a strong biting scent, at first application I could immediately detect the citrus and mandarin notes which on me dry down very quickly and hardly seem detectable, but in the background I can sense it's complicated notes faintly gaining my attention.

You have to hand it to Elizabeth Arden's perfume house for consistency and product choice. I would love to own her entire collection, alas not all Arden's fragrances suit me.

I see the words gourmand, foody and yummy often cited here by wise and knowledgeable Frangrantica members, who I avidly rely upon to gain a deeper understanding of something we all love. 'Splendor' seems edible on me.

'Splendor' might suit a casual day or a serious one, because I feel this fragrance is subtle am not yet convinced unique, however it is a good and pleasing fragrance to wear when a more serious and understated vibe is required.

The base notes of 'Splendor' kick in quite early, within an hour of application, a slightly woody and green aroma still with a hint of creamy citrus fruits. Lily of the Valley is strongly there in the background. Reminding me of something my mother used to wear in the 70's when she herself was in her 30's. It might have been an 'Avon' fragrance? that I recall she used to love. Mother is now in mid 70's and she from memory always had a penchant for the spicier heavy scents ie 'Youth Dew, Paris etc. It seems strange I should be reminded of her by 'Splendor'.

Many hours later after applying 'Splendor', and a good nights sleep, I could still smell the fragrance on my upper wrists, sitting very close to my skin. A whole 16 hours had passed since I applied this fragrance. Ps I use gloves for food prep and washing. Having to suffer unfortunately from dermatitis on my hands.

'Splendor' is a very long lived fragrance, again harking back to excellent Bang For one's Buck: Colloquially speaking.

I would say Lily of the Valley dominates over the other notes with a soft hint of wood and musk. In my opinion and agreeing with others here. 'Splendor' is an elegant albeit generic fragrance, and most likely has been copied over and over again by the bulk of celebrity fragrances now available and of late flooding the market.

Cheers T.

Ouch! What a scrub on me!
I remember this to be worn by a friend of mine and it was ok on her, but on my chemistry it turns to something almost rotten or gone bad.
There is just this silly note I cannot point out, but it smells like something very dry and almost cigarette-like that clenches my throat. similar note in Cacharel Eau d'Eden.
shame. The rest of blend is lovely, even if a little bit of everything. Definetely a generic floral with some good flowers, but not on me.
It's strong and longlasting.

stillsinnend

I bought this one with the idea of it becoming my new favourite spring fragrance. And indeed, initially it smelled like a bouquet of spring flowers in a crystal clear morning in March. Pretty soon afterwards I began to perceive a shrill plastic note which persistently took over. So much for the magic.
Could it have gone bad? I store it properly, just like all my other fragrances.
For the same amount of money or less, you can get Desir de Nature by Yves Rocher and if you're looking for a spring bouquet fragrance, I recommend you do.
(A beautiful flacon though, especially the cap. Perhaps I'll get rid of the juice and keep it.)

Smaragdas

Honestly, only for seaside on hot days, mixing with other scents to give it some depth, or as a bathroom fragrance... Smells cheap.

celebrity89

I just realized how similar this is to Eternity.

Update: I think this was supposed to be like Cartier So Pretty, which is much better. I also think Eternity is better. Splendor is way to strong.

Cerise Noire

It's pleasant, but unremarkable to my nose. The scent does seem familiar. Maybe because it has that fresh laundry kind of feel. Also, it has sort of a minty quality to it. Basically I smell an asortment of flowers, and mint. It's nothing I would put in my favorites but I imagine a lot of people prefer these clean, fresh scents.

Sassy1

Used this as bathroom spray and finally finished up the bottle...Yea!!

sky74

I wonder why people are saying this scent suits only "mature" women. I had a sample of it when I was in my very early 20's and I loved it. I don't think taste has anything to do with age: In my teens my favorite perfumes were Opium, Poison, and Beautiful, which may be considered "mature" scents. Now I'm a little older and I like "younger" scents. My mother, who wore Chanel 5 and Opium most of her life, prefers sweet fruity scents right now. So tastes may change, chronological age changes naturally, but in our state of mind we are always always very young. So the hell with age "restrictions", go ahead and wear whatever you want, whenever you want.

lizettchen

at the beginning i thought "gee, i bought a gardenia plantation", but after a few minutes came the lilly and a creamy-fresh feeling. I must admit that i had more expectations but for this price its a very good choice if youre looking for a sensitive and fresh fragrance for everyday use.

ojosverdes

Lovely scent for a mature woman. Flowery clean scent that give you an out of the shower feel. I detect violet notes not listed. Good inexpensive scent that is good for everyday wear in the spring and summer. Thank you Tomasania for your generous giveaway!

LadyRogue

I have a few EA scents in my collection and like/love most of them, so when my friend bough "Splendor" for a very cheap price, I was curious to test this one.
One spray on my wrist and it instantly hit me...a lily-of-the-valley note that allows no competition of any other notes.

On me "Splendor" is a lily-of-the-valley bomb like no other, its LOTV note is sharp, unforgiving and too much of a good thing, which makes it a bad thing. It doesn't mellow out and doesn't seem to have a middle or dry down, no, on me it's al sharp screeching LOTV. It gives me a headache and makes me slightly dizzy. After enduring it for 3 hours (I was in transit and couldn't scrub my wrist) I had to pull my sleeve down in a futile effort to *stop* the LOTV note from permeating my head into a dizzy spell, but alas, this Splendor is a longevity and silage monster and I applaud the chemistry that can tame it.

On the plus side: if you're a REAL LOTV fan then this one should be on the top of your must try list. It's vert inexpensive and this lilly wont wilt and will stay with you far into the next day because even a scrubbing of my wrist could not really diminish its power.

Alas, despite the very friendly price and the elegant bottle, this one is definitely not for me - but don't let that deter you fro trying and enjoying it. Good luck!

EmilyTheStrange

Very fresh, light, clean and good staying power. Nice everyday sort of perfume - especially in the warmer months.

BikiniBabe

OMG! This perfume attacked me LOL =) I got it for free with my last perfume purchase. I had a feeling it was going to be something that i wont like but i gave it a shot. It is sweet indeed...at first.. and then a sharp blue flowery smell took over that was more than i could handle. I literally couldn't breath from it... and at the same time i found it ridiculously funny that a perfume was wrestling with me. Its the sort of scent that will fight with u and u'll just have to find out who will dominate in this relationship .... u or it. Its almost like it was forcing me to like it. Very feisty! LOL I like it just because it went down kicking and screaming. =)

Light fresh very slightly lemony floral, slighty soapy. Very clean and fresh. Would think about buying some time

Latindancer

I do love this scent. It's light and airy, very floral, very fresh. Not powdery floral, it's a clean green floral. Nothing too unique or memorable though, just a very nice, pleasant smell. Suitable for everyday occasions where you just want to smell nice without drowning people around you! I would picture a little garden around me when I wear it, my own personal floral garden. Works very well with my body chemistry, if only the sillage is better and lasting power is longer, it would definitely be my signature! But as of now, it's Bvlgari's Jasmin Noir!

magie

soft white floral, very nice. Lots of pretty white flowers and a little rosewood. The dry down is simply pretty. It is a little soapy, but that just make it fresh and clean. Perfect for work or an occasion where you want to feel pretty, but discreet. I don't think it would offend. I like it for campaigning, for my husband's election. It is lady like, feminine, and charming. It is also discreet, like Hiris from Hermes. It doesn't really smell like Hiris, but it is subtle and refined. The price is the best part. It smells expensive but it isn't. One of the most affordable scents I own. LOVE LOVE LOVE

mhubbard

very intense sour gardinia scent, just absolutely horrid and stinky. I had to cancel my evening plans after purchasing and applying, as I realized I could not be near other people and unfortauntely could not go home and shower. For gardinia lovers only. The vast majority of perfumes just bore me- very, very few perfumes are as bad as this. Cheap for a reason.

Bunnylove

At first I was wearing it only for exams and formal ocasions but right now it's one of my most favourite! It says on me for many hours and on my clother ever for days (especially on scarfs). Definitely I will buy it again.

PastelMoon

In fact this perfume could be considered a young scent, not every young person should smell like sweet tacky fruits, elegance is ageless.

Pasaka

It's definitely a nice scent. Sweet and floral, perhaps too floral for me. I feel being an elegant, sophisticated mature woman, not a light, young girl :/ So my advice will be not to buy this perfume if you are under 25-30 years. It's a big no-no

PastelMoon

Splendor is a highly versatile, vivid, optimistic scent. A basic white fresh floral with sharper green nuances and a bit of tropical, almost bubblegum like sweetness to it. It dries down soapy and lightly powdery. Unlikely to offend, this one is a safe choice for everyday or even more fancy occasions. It's elegant but playful and i love wearing it anytime.

wattie

Splendor is a pretty good perfume, I like floral fruity but not sickening fragrances. I'm quite picky so a cheap scent I can wear everyday is a rare find. It's not my favourite ever (Jimmy Choo, Flora by Gucci, Marc Jacobs Daisy, Amor Amor Cacharel etc) but the bottle looks good on my dressing table, and the scent is floral and musky in a good way.

BettyNoir

I bought this blind and whilst it's not a favourite, it's certainly lovely enough to have in my scent wardrobe.

On first spray it's fresh, astringent, floral and even slightly ozonic.

The drydown is soft white petals, clean laundry and something sharp that I can't quite identify. It's almost as if they added a sharp, almost ozonic note instead of making it a floral white musk. With the opening being so feminine and floral, I almost expected it to go in the white musk sort of direction rather than this one.

So how would I describe this? Well it's like a bunch of white flowers next to bar of soap with a sharp green sliced open fern leaf rubbed into it.

Edit: After looking at the notes on here, I am quite surprised to see pineapple as I did not detect that at all. I can definitely smell Lily of the Valley, hyacinth and carnation. Maybe the slightly sharp note is the cedarwood? I don't know, but something knocks this slightly off kilter for me. Not necessarily a bad thing in a scent.

The Swedish girl

I bought this one blindly, because people said it smells like Dove. And I looove Dove and Nivea scents.

Well, I don`t think it smells like Dove at all, but it IS surprisingly nice for being a floral. Very powdery, a bit sweet and creamy. A bit sour too unfortunately...
I can`t pick out any specific notes, it`s well blended.

Good enough, and nice price. Cute bottle also.

UPDATE: I get a whiff of ash tray in this perfume... the same ah tray that I find in J.Lo Glow, Cerruti 1881, Versace Baby Rose, Eternity, Le Jardin and so on... NOT NICE.

mippymuppett

When I first sprayed this I thought "Oh dear God, what did I do!!" Wait......about 10 minutes later this beautiful sweet almost honeysuckle scent begins to unfold and the initial harshness subsides. Very pretty fragrance and so inexpensive!!!

nastyamason

Love it! My favorite among Elizabeth Arden fragrances. So feminine!

AngieGCarp

Yummy! Splendor is just perfect when you want to be sweet and cuddly or pretty and flowery....it would be great for church or the office. It is non offensive and delicate. If you were trying to decide whether to buy Alfred Sung Forever (as mentioned above, I have both) or Splendor...Splendor is heavier and the florals are much more distinctive. Alfred Sung is delightful and delicate. But personal preference for me is Splendor. A 4oz bottle of Splendor can be found on Overstock for about 20.00 or less. ♥ Happy Perfuming!

kateridelisle

The perfect fragrance to lightly scent your hair or clothing, seems to work better than on my skin. A nice clean and white floral fragrance;a great spring/summer scent. I personally love the original white Dove soap scent, so this is a nice companion scent for just after showering.

goldpoint

Reminds me of Nivea deo spray and the original Dove soap.Very clean, soapy ,with a blue nuance-love it.The bottle looks terrible, but I don't care.I'm saying that only because I am surprised they put that pleasant scent into such a simple bottle.Didn't they have a little bit more imagination?

Pet Ams

O.K so I tried it again and waited patiently....
It was o.k'ish. I have a weird love/hate relationship with this fragrance. I love the floral but yet there is one flower that I detest. It is too strong for me. It is either the Lily-of-the-Valley or the Hiacinth.

It does have a long staying power on me, stays on my skin and clothes the whole day.

When I choose to what fragrance to wear for the day I do find myself pushing this bottle to the back.
I might give it away to someone who will appreciate it more.

review update:
I gave this to my sister who absolutely loved it. It smells realy good on her and when she wears it I really love the smell but on me it is still too much. Made my sister happy. She seems to have taken a shine to my other EA perfumes as well... mwaha my plan to turn her into a perfum maniac as well seems to be working.

Perfumefreak

Very beautiful with a big B. Indeed.
Classic, sophisticated and exquisite lady this is.
Very suitable scent for a business or other significant meeting, for an elegant dinner party.
Beautiful white flowers and enough sweetness to please your senses.
"Noisy little sister" to 5th avenue. Has the same atmosphere and classical feeling.
Strong scent though.
I will recommend to you all.
All time classic!

paleface

What a lovely bouquet this is! Fresh with white AND coloured flowers! Pineapple and sweet pea give some sweetness but not too much: this scent is not cloying, not candy-like, not gourmand. Actually there is nothing "too much" to my nostrils. Very well balanced, smells expensive. However, if you are looking for a headturner, this isn't your cup of tea. Splendor is like a beautiful hostess in some official party; knowing herself, smiling and talking to everyone, taking her space - but always discreetly...

missk

Elizabeth Arden, in my opinion, makes some real quality scents. It's such a shame to see some people so ready to disregard the brand before giving it a fair chance. Splendor is highly underrated, and far beyond average when compared to some other white florals, most notably lily of the valley based scents. Splendor is almost as pretty as Diorissimo.

This fragrance is fresh, feminine and clean. The florals in this composition are sparkling and pure, just enough to satisfy some serious floral cravings. Lily of the valley comes across as being rather dominant in Splendor, with jasmine, hyacinth, freesia and wisteria smoothing out the scent and adding a pleasant soapiness.

Splendor is innocent and casual. A great scent to spritz on when you don't know what else to wear. It also suits almost every season and occasion. I personally love it for its versatility.

Young women, like myself, most likely walk past this fragrance in the stores thinking it'd be something boring and plain like the bottle and packaging it comes in. I half expect there would be discriminatory remarks like, "only for grannies" to follow in suit. I stand up for this fragrance, and openly declare that it is a scent worth testing, especially if florals are your thing.

Splendor is wonderfully inexpensive, however I also fear that it may be soon discontinued. My mother loves this brand, and this fragrance. I would be saddened if fragrances, such as this one, were to become no longer available. It's a beautifully composed scent, that has really left a good impression with me. Did I mention that the sillage and longevity was good too? Please, give it a try. It's not just for 'old ladies', even though I don't disagree that your grandmother would probably love Splendor too.

Enchntress

Damn my chemistry!! Yet another blind buy perfume that smells terrible on me. At first, a huge blast of synthethic floral something or other, then it truly smells like bloody baby powder. Not quite the scent I'm going for...

Brand new bottle up for trade if anyone is interested.

manel.saaidani

my favorite parfum <3<3

eyram

i think splendor is the worst perfume elizabeth arden ever made. Its too strong and it smells cheap. I won't reccomend this perfume...there's nothing flowery about it

mimi.smell

This is very natural, sensual, charming floral scent. It's classy elegant, without any sour ingredients, although still fresh and very pleasing. I found it proper to wear for work, leasure or simply when I'm at home. Really very feminine and safe signature-tipe fragrance, still very interesting with hint of woodsy smell. Lovely and timeless. Undervaluated fragrance IMHO. I think you can't regret, if purchase!

Pet Ams

When I read most reviews I should like this scent but I just don't. I've tried it once and can not get myself to try it again. Maybe my nose has gone off but all I got was icky baby nappies... or maybe the bottle I've got is off ???

I will have to try out the patience of exciter76 and give this one another try. I so badly want to like this smell. I'll try it when I'm not going anywhere. When I'm just going to hang out at home.. here's hoping for a second chance, where I will patiently wait for the dry down to give me a nice surprise.

arimegahot

My mother's favorite perfume, makes a woman look more modern and beautiful, subtle and confident, I also enjoy it when she uses.

Christchurch

Absolutely love the fresh scent with my wallet friendly price tag. Not too sweet, and very subtle clean smell, totally office friendly. I can't find any Oriental note though.

arimegahot

el perfume favorito de mi mamá, la hace lucir la mujer mas moderna y bella, sutil y con confianza, tambien lo disfruto yo cuando ella lo usa

Migalex

Here is a perfume which is not pricey but is absolutely lovely. I do not think it is an oriental floral but rather a very balanced floral fruity. The balance between the top fruity acidity and the slightly sweet floral heart is really a masterpiece.I actually think it is one of the best balanced floral fruity perfumes, not too fruity neither sickeningly sweet at the top, nor too acidic or sour, a bit sour but with a very smooth transition from top to heart, and with a truly floral heart of lilly of the valley and freesia. And not too sweet at the base either. Because it has no or at least not much vanilla, the sweetness from the heart on is very smooth and floral. From the heart on the scent does not change drastically and does keep its character throughout the dry down. Lasting power is excellent but unfortunately sillage is not as great. It is a shower fresh perfume, which I enjoy better in the evening. Overall very very good, much but much better than most of the floral fruity selling for six times its price. It does smelll complex, has got density and depth and it is quite strong, which I like. I like it very very much. I agree that it is not a head turner and does not have a strong character or make a statement, but i think that most people will find it very pleasant. Contrarily to other people I love the bottle. The name and the ad are also lovely. Love the sentence. I think it has been discontinued because it is not listed in Elizabeth Arden's site. Has it? Does everyone know?

xxSniffyThePerfumeBunnyxx

Just smells like soap to me. Sweetens after a while.

DarkClarissa

Splendor is a heavy redolent bouquet of heady florals on my skin. I have to say that I love it. It makes me feel like a southern belle lazing in the hazy, humid summer with heavy headed lilies nearby and the low buzz of the honey bee in the background. The sweet pea makes the lily of the valley a little less overpowering and the bergamot and sandalwood give a delicious soapy tang making it feel fresher than it might otherwise do.

perfumeholic88

My mom had Splendor twice. I tested it and I must say it´´s quiet nice. Normally I don´t like that kind of perfumes where is too much flowers but Splendor is light, no overpowering and long lasting on mys skin.

Mooniq

A lovely floral scent. Soft flowers with a hint of crisp mint. The woodsy notes are just there and a great splash of amber and musk. I like it a lot. Elegant and chic.

En härlig blommig doft. Mjuka blommor med en fläkt av krispig mint. Trätonerna är mjuka och nedtonade. Härlig dust av amber och musk. Superkvinnlig och chic.

Belil

Lovely floral beauty.
I get why many think it's an old lady scent, it's really stong on florals and that big number of notes.
The lilly of the valey note is extremely strong here and I think it spoils it for many people just because of the heavy abuse of the lilly of the valey air fresheners used in bathrooms, I admit I find it's sometimes hard for me to overcome this perception too.
The best way to enjoy this baby is to walk naked (just after having a shower and drying yourself) in the mist of this perfume and wait at least a half an hour before going out. This works for me with many clasic 'older' florals and this way it can be enjoyed to the maximum, just try to resist the temptation of reaplying.
On my skin after the initial 10 minutes of floral nonsense it becomes sweet, and the flowers (rose, wisteria and jasmine waft in waves and sometimes lily and the hyacinth peek through. then after an hour it changes to a more quiet and less distinctive sweet aroma. I'd recommed to wear it in summer with a nice dress with floral prints and some vintage vibe.

Splendour is a sweet fragrance that can be both delicate and powerful. In my estimation, it is a very romantic scent which can vary in its depth, sometimes playful, sometimes suffocating. I think it is a perfect scent for all year round, it seems to take on the personality of wearer and the season sometimes reminiscing tropical sunsets, sometimes cosy and enveloping like a warm winter blanket. It has longevity and rarely fades into incognito. I like it.

petravesna

The first spray has reminded me of J S Parker Lovely which was a bit too sweet for me. The main impression of this fragrance is Lily of the Valley and green spring. When sprayed on, some sharp unpleasant whiff like a sweat forces me to run away every time I spray it on. But go outside and it smells nice. White spring florals. It is safe enough to wear it as a day fragrance but it does not make a big impression therefore inoffensive and does not last long.

Kione

A bomb of white flowers and sweetness! Very strong floral, I woudn't say oriental. I normally quite like florals but this is so strong that I don't know if I like it or not! Would not buy it though...

curlykitty8

I wore this lovely fragrance in 1999 and although I would not wear it now, it was extremely special!

Not only did I receive many compliments but it was a classy, feminine and discreet fragrance that said "lady."

Cezanne

Trying a mini. Pineapple definitely there. And something odd - menthol. I'm over 50 so my skin reacts in an old lady way perhaps... this doesnt seem very special on me.

Sassy1

Cheap smelling Lily of the valley and plastic doll skin.

Almost idential to PS Casual and close to Charlie White.

Pass...

Update: Thought I'd drag this out from the back of the closet and give it another try....still Ick!

Denoula

I would call this pure floral rather than oriental. The hyacinth comes through strongly- at first I took it for bluebell. There is a slight sharp edge, to my nose, which gives it more character. I shall enjoy using this.

olga1780

This is such a lovely scent to put on right upon waking up in the morning...it's like the white dewy petals caressing your skin. Very innocent and refreshing .

stella by starlight

i dont detect any oriental notes. its a reasonable and wearable boring floral scent.

takeasniff

I have tried this again and it reminds me of sunflowers. It has a sunny warm smell but tangy and sour at the same time. Very perfumey. I do like it but I think it is that sour smell that I found very heavy. The more I try it the more I like it. It doesn't last long on me. I find I have to spray a couple of times a day to be able to smell it. It's almost like Estee Lauder's beautiful Sheer or Vera Wang flower Princess. It is hard to describe it is a boquet of flowers but there is a definite heavy note maybe the lilly or jasmine causes that sour note?

madhatter1

Ah memories from the 90's...and I loved wearing it like most of you too and it is such a great name!

krissycat

Splendor is a very pleasant Elizabeth Arden. It's one of those clean, sweet but not overly sweet scents that I can't picture anybody could not like. The only downside I find with this one is that there's nothing extra specatular about it. I don't find it extremely original either. I think if I smelled this one on someone else I would think, oh that is pleasant, but it isn't original enough that I would say, I know this scent, it is Splendor. I think it is a good perfume to maybe wear every day to the office because it won't offend anyone. I don't think its dramatic enough to wear on a night out on the town. As far as Elizabeth Arden goes though, this has to be one of the least offensive perfumes this line carries. :)

olga1780

OMG, how in the world do they manage to sell it so cheap? This is a gorgeous floral perfume with a deep woody-ambery base. The quality left me speechless.
I see someone wearing it to a wedding, because it would go fabulously with a white wedding dress.
Definitely a great fragrance for a night out in summer, but don't forget to wear you best clothes with it!

takeasniff

This does smell like white flowers and a little citrus but I find it quite depressing and I am not sure why? Every time I wear it I find it to be a very heavy hearted perfume. Strange I know but I still do wear it because after you try it a couple of times it does not smell cheap you can appreciate the quality of it.

Action

Halvah I LOVE your review!! Just like Vivid from Claiborne is this 'cost efficient' perfume AMAZING!! Wonderful bouquet! People should be glad to be able to attain such a gorgeous perfume for such an attainable price!

Halvah

First time when I tried Splendor I tried right after wearing Shalimar for quite a while. I felt Splendor a little bit harsh and cheapsmelling then. Now, as I"m trying it without any other scent in my mind, I must say it's anything but cheapsmelling and really is a beautiful, highly underrated floral perfume with character. In the first seconds after spraying the apple note seems to be a little bit artificial for me, but this note fades quickly and only a touch of fruitiness remain. On my skin - or according to my idea about a perfume being fresh - this is not fresh at all, but deep, slightly melancholic, like a beautiful aristocrat young woman sitting by a rich flower bed reading a romantic novel that lacks happy-end. Sillage and longevity is just about perfect on my skin, the more I have it on the more develops it into a soft, charming signature scent. People should try it without prejudice!

beatrix75

its not bad but not somethyng extra spring time its good to vere but....

norlyz

dont be fooled by the unattractive bottle - it smells really nice!!it is such a bargain for a very good scent - i love the sweet fruity opening n the flowery middle notes. but for me the base is a bit too stinging, maybe of the hot humid weather...

truffles

Oh this is really not for me.
I'm finding it hard to see where the 'oriental' comes in in this.
All I get is a strong 'floral' blur that smells to me, EXACTLY like EA Fifth Avenue.
This is the sort of perfume that would make me nauseous to wear, quite sickening, thankfully I've not put any on my neck.
(Love the bottle though!)

nyoka

I agree with cisco and action,This is a BEAUTIFUL scent. ive already given my review below but,I must say again, its like a romantic star filled night with one lone shooting star, and that star is SPLENDOR.I cant believe anyone could not at least like this fume.BUt,to put it so grossly as sum have done is just vulgar and doesnt belong in this review site.Theres a lot of ways to say its not for me,without being so crude. All of u who matter,Im sry but, this fume as this site, demand more respect.

Action

Totally agree with Cisco!
This is just one of the best from Arden and that is saying something, because I am really not into all flower perfumes!

Passionflower

Quite a nice fragrance. I smell jasmine more than anything. It's a bit too simple and shy to my taste, but very pleasant nevertheless.

cisco

Splendor has a lot going for it. To me, it seems more like a floral than an oriental floral. It passed my overnight test. The sillage is average.

I prefer Splendor to 5th Avenue. Out of the Arden line I rate it with Red Door and Blue Grass.

Another plus is the reasonable pricing. I find the bottle very attractive. It is simple elegance.

nyoka

This is a very lovely fragrance. The only way to describe it is,a massive flower bed bordered by roses.U can smell them all as u walk down a long winding dirt path through a forrest.U come upon this flower/rose garden because u have smelled it from afar and had to get to the source. It is colored like a rainbow!the red roses arround it call to u.They r sooo sweet, they dont even have thorns. There is a Kiss of tanginess(PINEAPPLE) that accentuates the flowers.Beyond the roses there r old and massive. These r exotic woods, rose, ebony etc.THis fume is a great fume.Holds its head up high along with the most expensive ones.lasts a long time and great sillage.

Action

This is in matter of impact and beauty comparable to Vivid for me. I adore these Floral beauties for their classy complexity and sillage, not to mention the GREAT price!!

millan

On me this fruity floral. I love it . It is perfect to use anywear. My daughter who is 13yrs old wears it too . The staying power is very good. It is very fresh clean sexy and even inocent

chyprecat

This one was just not for me. You know you are in trouble when you like the bottle way more than the contents. I find this scent bland and indistinct; there is nothing there that grabs me in that region at the back of the rigcage that twangs a bit when you experience a scent that hits you on an inner level. Splendor is for the lady that wants her scent to stay very much in the background, and be barely there at all. It reminds me in that way of Little White Dress by Avon, antother huge dissapointment.

I just think I like my perfume with some personality. Splendor has all the personality of a poached egg without the bechemel!!! DULL DULL DULL.

lopezannie

White flowers and linen! A little bit heavy, but pleasant. i don't use it in my skin, instead I use it for my bedsheets, pillows and home fragrance.

nickflick

A surprisingly good perfume in such simple packaging. I would say this is simply floral rather than oriental floral. This perfume would appeal to women of all ages and I agree that it has a clean laundered feel about it. Long lasting and very pleasant for home, work and everyday pursuits.

Sissi

When i first smelled this it reminded
me of fresh linen hanging to dry on a
warm sunny day and so i thought there where aldehydes in this and there's a bit of it in this but does'nt last
then the scent changes to an Lemony like
aroma i truely beleve that is the spicy
Hiacynth note is making it lemony
then the drydown consisting of sweet
freesia and green apple for the tartness.
there is an strong presence of an lily
note which i love lillies sweet magnolia
jasmine is a bit noticible but to be a bit diluted under the other notes.
the bottom has a strong note of cedar
then it ends with sandalwood.

this is an lift me up kind of a fragrance the hiacynth lillies and the
tartness of green apple it's bright
and cheary the reason it's not my favorite because i'm not a fan of hyacynth they put a little more then
they should but neverless a happy perfume.

MrsTefee

Ahh! I just received my bottle in the mail and I really cannot wear this scent. On me all there is is a strong strong floral smell of lily or lily of the valley. No fruity scents or anything. Maybe my bottle is defective, I'm rather disappointed.

milena

Now that it is winter here in australia and the perfume I'm wearing, now, smells so extraordinary so beautiful and so unique and floral with a touch of spice. Wow I love this scent, A very lady like scent with charisma and sophistication a must to have in wardrobe.A perfume to wear any time anywhere, no matter what age.Splendor is splendid indeed. The price is so affordable.

Action

This perfume is called exactly what it is, SPLENDID!!!!

a.k.a.warum

Very nice floral with a hint of fruit coming up every once in a while, not heavily fruit by any means.

For the first hour it reminded me both of Estee Lauder Pure White Linen and Yves Rocher Ming Shu, a ladylike floral with a clean quality to it. Later a woodier touch appeared which is also very nice and somewhat justifies a floral oriental categorization.

I have to admit that I dabbed just a tiny bit, but I will revisit it with a little more and update the review. I definitely WILL revisit it.

Thanks hypnoticx for a sample!

More and more coming to the conclusion that Elizabeth Arden has some really great perfumes!! The ones I love:
5th Avenue
5th Avenue nights
Red door
Sunflowers
Arden beauty
Provocative Interlude
Splendor
True Love

And so on and so forth...really great score actually!!!

ditaa

I bought this, and what I could say -its very strong combination of: lily-of- the valley + jasmine. Later I feel orchid+rose. In my opinion its not oriental, its relly floral fruity.
Also I could say that for me its not fresh, its quit heavy/sweet, long lasting power.
But anyway its ok for everyday and price is very attractive :)

Prettynightmary

I bought this unsniffed and really hoped I`d like it. Well... I don`t. It`s not bad but just too floral for my taste. Not oriental, a hint of fruit. To me it smells a bit old, just like the bottle looks a bit old. The lasting power is good tough. I think I`l try it again and then ask if my mom would like it.

lalala

pretty.

it is more of a sophisticated femine smell, not overpowering.

soniamcalear

Fresh laundry kind of scent. Its pretty but not a signature scent for me.

tzoutzou78

bought it unsnifed and i dont regret it, its a non offensive perfume, more floral then orientaland lasting power i
s quite good, good for everyday use,and great for a gift.the drydown is something soapy, and powdery.

im writing again afterive worn this,it starts to amaze me,very good fragrance

Kittycat63

Splendor is a sparkling, fresh, fruity / floral scent and has very good staying power. It's light and not at all overpowering and is one of those perfumes that when I'm out and about and catch a subtle waft of it on myself it makes me think "who's wearing that lovely perfume and what is it?" but then I realize it's actually me. I also get compliments when I wear it so clearly other people think it smells as nice as I do!

It's an ideal perfume to use anytime, day or night, and would suit any age group, young or old. I've read some reviews over the internet which say it's an old smelling perfume but I totally disagree and, if anything, I'd say it's a fresh, younger smelling perfume. I think the name of it sounds quite old so that may put some people off trying it but it shouldn't because the perfume is gorgeous.

It smells much more expensive than it is and is a very classy perfume. I'm very glad I gave it a try because it's a definite winner.

tee_vee09

this is light and kind of soapy not too oriental like red door for its price its great i have had compliments when wearing it this is one of ardens better my second favourite of hers the best of hers is pretty

jigglyclefairypuff

Judging by the plain looking flacon I assumed that this was an 'old grannies' perfume.
However this is suprisingly pleasant, versatile & under-rated - you could wear this almost everywhere. Its simple, unassuming flacon hides its true charm.
Very few Elizabeth Arden fragrances impress me, but Splendor is worth giving a second look at.
