The William

I really like this, partly out of sentimentality as I had a bottle 20 years ago when I wanted something credible but not too expensive. It's a great value, decent scent - citrus and a little spicy with a slightly sweet, vanilla background and dry down. Not going to surprise people or have super performance but as a pleasant, cheap option to reach for on a 'normal' day it's a winner.

Histamine

Versatile dumb reach fresh fragrance. I have worn this countless times to the gym as I enjoy the energy burst of the citrus ginger opening. Otherwise there is not much to say. The price is cheap and it smells pleasant, and sometimes that is all we need.

kmakmakma

Just bought this on discount from a duty-free. It’s a pleasant, inoffensive citrus/woody blend that could turn out to be a workhorse. People have commented on ginger notes, but that’s not something that I noticed. The vanilla, on the other hand, becomes quite prominent in the drydown, something I didn’t perceive at all when I sprayed the tester.

If vanilla is a red flag for you, then don’t blind-buy this one. But for this price, I’m liking it.

EDIT: I’ve worn this three times and I’ve had a headache each time. I haven’t decided whether I think this is a coincidence or not.

It's coffee time

This one brings back some great memories of early 00s, when i fell in love for the first time in my life. She adored it. The scent profile is so lovley.

Whew

A lot of citrus in the beginning, smells like an Orthodox Christian liturgy after that. I think it's interesting.

Avfrag

Extreme projection on my skin like crazy i

lmwimsatt

As some ladies characterize womens fragrances as "perfumey", meaning the smell one thinks about when they hear the word "perfume"; I, in the same vein would call this "cologney". The fact that the difference between perfume and cologne is not feminine or masculine neither here nor there. What l mean to say is that like most mens fragrances this is just so sterotypical and boring. It almost smells like Ford's Costa Azura but more citric and boring. But costa azura is one of TF least unique scent, after all.

dimitarkafaliev

Received as a gift, I like how it smells, girlfriend likes it too, but projection and longevity are not great.

Lionsheart91

Shit is trash don't buy it smells like an old man in my opinion!

aabisogun

I love the citrus tones in this fragrance. That’s what you get on the outset. As long as it lingers, it smells very nice. Perfect for the non-winter months.
Once it starts to settle down, you get the green notes, with I slight whiff of vanilla every now and again.
This fragrance suggests fun spring and summer evenings, hanging out with friends.
The huge disappointment is that it does not last at all. O get it for two hours, but after that…. nada…
This fact therefore really brings down the rating significantly.

A great gym scent :)

Kitrenard

Smells like coke bottles - the pick 'n' mix sweets, not the drink. I don't like Coke, but I don't mind this too much.

zavi

I caught a whiff of this off my friend the other day when going in for a hug. He smelled great and so I just had to ask him what he was wearing. I'd say this is pretty good stuff considering how cheap it is and the fact that everyone complimented how good he smelled.

Does it project much? No. Is it going to last long? Also no. But for the price point you can't really expect much. I'd say this is the perfect blind reach if you want to smell good but inoffensive at the gym.

hdineth

Unique scent. Has a fresh and little Dark vibe. Bad longevity, not more than 2-3 hrs even on the cloths in high heat + high humid tropical countries .

darkknight

This is one of the first fragrances I got when I started my perfume journey around twenty years ago. Being a new to fragrances during that time, I was impressed by this scent. After wearing it many times through the years I have changed my opinion on dark blue. I find the longevity and projection of this particular Boss fragrance to be really weak. I got this from a big department store so I have no doubts on the authenticity of my bottle. I have a few other Boss fragrances and they all perform way better than dark blue. The scent itself is just fine, not bad but not amazing either. The notes I pick up most the citrus ,ginger and some sweetness from the vanilla. The other notes listed are to me barely noticeable. This could probably be worn year round and day or night too.

Kashwell337

Fragrance snobs give that one a bad rep. This is a gorgeous, modern, and versatile fragrance. I have more than a few expensive and “challenging” niche fragrances that I’m still trying to understand the “story” behind it you get what im saying. I do get that “cola” vibe tho oddly enough. Kind of a vacation in a bottle kind of vibe. While not groundbreaking, this is a very good spring/summer fragrance for the price.

dantheman352

I received this fragrance during Christmas 2022 from my friend Raul Alcivar. It's quite enjoyable with more than 15 notes Hugo Boss Dark Blue reflects the 90's era. A bunch of citrus makes it a nice aromatic cocktail. I get instantly for some reason the Coca Cola vibes it is very pleasant, very much blue/herbal and it is versatile. A good choice for spring/summer casual and great for the gym.

Rzv_8

Put simply, not a good scent in my opinion. Smells very medicinal throughout and the notes here don’t combine well together leading to a weirdly off putting scent. Longevity and Silage are solid.

It's kind of scent that you forget about it in your gym bag, but it would be useful to use it while working out.

Jspjff

Does not last too long. In my opinion it is ok for casual wearing, nothing to impress. To/from the gym or casual going with friends. Not bad but not a head turner and nothing special.

Jonas Harkamp

Fantastic smelling, but it has a very bad longevity

Lovely fresh warm fruity mix of citrus and spices

Great for both winter and summer, very versatile

I really do get the coco cola vibes from this cherry cola

Decent longevity and sillage

I personally love it, great value for $$$

rickyfreaky13

Why is there no cola note in this? It smells exactly like cola candy. I'm not sure if i will love it, but the scent is pretty intriguing to me, i never had a cola scented perfume ever. I think it's gonna be fun to be smelled like cola candy while having a night party with my friends.

FabiansFragrance

The definition of average, don't expect something grountbreaking. It's a pretty "dark fragrance", like it has that underlying freshness. Go heavy on the trigger doesent last long (Would say about 3 hours). This suits all ages from teenagers to 50+ man to wear this. This is very versatile though, it can be used for any occasion. It can be used in dates because of that dark ginger cedar note and it can be used at the gym because of the freshness from the citruses.

BeRad3774

Blue and fruity. Nothing appealing. Completely average.

I_am_nothing

Personally would call the ‘fratboy’ perfume, but not in a bad way more of a it has that freshness and a spark to it way. Very very cedar forward as well as quite citrus smelling, absolutely no vanilla in it for me, some spiciness that lurks in the background.

Cja...

I got this as an Xmas present and to be fair it’s actually very good as a day time cheapie ?

I don’t ever ask for fragrances for Xmas because my fragrance shelf has over a hundred bottles mostly Xerjoff, Amouage Roja etc etc so I don’t want to appear ungrateful when I open up a bottle of £20 scent ….but actually this is a pretty good …I’m impressed.

rodrigol22

Eh. Not my favorite but you get what you pay for. Smells way too much like alcohol on the initial spray and later fresh vanilla coke-ish flavor. Smells pretty synthetic and doesn’t project well. It’ll last you a good 3-4 hours, I wish it lasted longer. 6/10

Goooooooooooooooooood!!!

ObsessedJoydjay

'These days there are so many better options in the same category and price to replace Dark Blue.'
Well, what are they? Name them, please..

Plum/dried fruits spiced cola/soda beverage vibe with herbal medicinal undertone (that cypress-benzoin accord like the one in Bvlgari Man Wood Essence).

Comparison to CK Obsession Night Men is quite relevant (herbal medicinal Artemisia).

For a modern version, you might like Mr. Burberry EDP.

What does it NOT smell like (too far comparison IMHO)?

My father wears this sometimes and used to wear it as a everyday scent at ~35-40 years of age. Everytime I smell this it reminds me of him coming from work wearing dark blue jeans and blazer. Would recommend for men over 30 years of age as a night time scent or as a everyday if you wear casual jeans and blazer

Ladygugu

As a female, this scent smells soooooo good, I am so drawn to this smell! It's a very seductive scent! I would definitely recommend!

samperf

my boyfriend wears this and it's my favourite scent on him. would recommend to you guys who wanna smell hot

Hotduece

This will remind you of colors from the late 80's. It's less powdery and a lil more masculine but it's in the same ballpark. You can pick it up cheap online even though it's discontinued, but you can do much better than this nowadays.

sameenuk

Don't get me wrong. i love the scent, very lovely flanker for hugo boss bottled. But it lasts at most 90 minutes on the skin which is really quite disappointing for this brand.

the scent is blended very well. top note of lime and grapefruit make it quite a pleasant smell at first spray. the dry down is woody cardomom and vetiver. This is not a sweet scent, its very businesslike but also the bottle gives you the impression it is quite metallic. I actually felt this is a very sporty scent.

the problem is that you can the best ever smell but if it doesn't last on the skin, then what is it, the kind of scent that is here for a fun time, not a long time. If i wanted that, i would get something like Milton Lloyd's Bondage.

once i eventually use this, i won't be buying it again.

@flo992 and @gorjan78 know where its at here.

Auralover

A bit heavy and definitely for the evenings, The opening reminds me of a mosquito repellent here in India popularly know by the name HIT !! Apart from that it settles down perfectly in citrus fruity metallic euphoria.

foreignshores

I picked up a bottle of this years ago and it was just too heavy and sweet for me. I live in Phoenix, so most of my collection consists of warm weather or summer scents. I liked how it smelled on other people, but for me it was cloying. Flash forward 15ish years later, and I picked up a bottle of this again on a whim. It was marked down at TJ Maxx and I thought what the heck.

So...Maybe my tastes have changed, or maybe it's been formulated, or a combination of both. It's hard to imagine but I could ever not like this. It's freaking magical. It's a tiny bit sweet but the spicy cola vibe mixed with the aromatic citrus gives it some lift and brightness. On my skin, the dry down is all vanilla and cedar.

Mmm. So good.

Suic1d3_Mach1n3

Only the 2nd Hugo Boss cologne I have ever bought and again I'm very impressed. I really like this scent and it makes me want to try more from Hugo Boss. You Get a lot of citrus in this one, spice (Ginger, geranium), woody notes (Cedar, Mahogany, Vetiver) vanilla and green notes (Cypress, Sage) and yes I can smell all of those notes in it perfectly. Like i said, im really impressed. you can somewhat smell a chocolate or cocoa smell, its probably the mahogany blending with the vanilla This scent is pretty safe, I would blind buy, its very cheap, great for any age guy. Only downside is it doesn't last that long, but like i always say, you can just apply more and also don't rub it in.

Hugo Dark Blue is somewhat of a typical Boss fragrance: pleasant, versatile, work friendly and affordable. But it could also be described as generic and redundant.

I happen to like Dark Blue a lot. It works well in cooler seasons, but it could be used in spring and early summer as well. It's dark, a little bit spicy and woody. This fragrance has very good performance on my skin and lasts a full work day with out problem.

This is a nostalgic fragrance for me and I will always keep it in my collection.

Flo992

Its not something special, but i had a lot of compliments for this one .

gorjan78

No spice in here...Only citrusy, cypress and vetiver
Pleasent but nothing special...Like a ton of other fragnances.

ftikhar

i doubt this has been 30% more watered down. earlier in 2007-8 it was different more juice could feel than alcohol. now it is more alcoholic.

but still i love it. get many compliments n its easy go wear to me esp evenings. i remember first time i tried it ginger blew my mind n asking my self a perfume can be this way?

but once it's aroma settles in senses. i don't think you will let it go :) this bottle is always in my shelf n so far this is y 4th bottle which i buy 125ml biggest ever :).

its interesting some times we need fragrances for our selves not for even pleasing others.

Br0wnsfn34

Hugo Boss Dark Blue comes off as a spicy ginger fragrance, almost like a spicy ginger beer.. I don’t get vanilla here tho. Vanilla doesn’t appear to be present on my skin which is no big deal because I’m not a huge vanilla fan.. This is awesome.. I think this is meant to be worn casual more than dressed up.. This would be great for the office, and casual nights out and parties.. A great value for money I got a 2.5 oz bottle for 26 dollars... Very very nice!!

It opens like a citrus Opium, but dries down more like Obsession.

Sweet spicy scent. Not one of my favorites though, but something that will get you through the day.

Santos89

At it's core this is a weird little synthetic scent, that tries to be fresh, spicy and heavy at the same time. It actually sort of works, but is an acquired taste.

It opens with a ginger-grapefruit accord. It's quite "stock" in the sense that it's been done many times over. Here it's a bit spicier rather than zesty.

Green notes quickly join the mix. A bit of cypress is detectable, but it's really quite non-descript.

Then the vanilla joins in, and turns this fresh scent into oriental territory.

It's sort of weird. On paper this sounds in the area of Allure Homme Edition Blanche, but it really isn't. It's a deeper and darker scent.

It comes across as sort of futuristic. It doesn't follow conventions, and sits in between a aromatic spicy and an oriental, in a way that makes it work in the heat and cold weather.

Truth be told, Dark Blue is really good. Like The Dreamer by Versace, it's certainly weird and out there, but it's also more mainstream in it's weirdness.

Dark Blue suffers from the usual Hugo Boss complaints - synthetic, lackluster blending etc. But like Bottled, this one works all of those things to it's benefit.

As this can be had for a song online, I can only recommend it. It's one of the few Hugo Boss scents that hasn't been woefully ruined over the years, and still smells very close to vintage.

Longevity is average - 5-6 hours.

I love how spicy and fresh this is. Bought it in duty free and it's a shame I can't find it anymore!

First gift I received from my wife 13 years ago. I love it, I never found it again to buy it,and know there is only my good memories with my gone wife, she and this scent is only a memory for me forever ...

Opium Pour Homme and Hugo Dark Blue have some surprising similarities.
It's the tart yet creamy vanilla, ginger, cedar and sweet resin.

PedramFrag

In 2000, I used to wear it when I was a junior at university. It used to serve the purpose and get the job done. Couple of years ago when I was passing by the Hugo Boss counter at a local department store sniffed it again. It smelled generic and ordinary. Either my nose has developed or this has been reformulated. These days there are so many better options in the same category and price to replace Dark Blue.

picknenders

Well look at this little secret. Saw it at Marshall’s and pulled the trigger. Someone below said “if you like plum scents you’ll like this” - a well trained nose! I think he hit it spot on. This is an effervescent plum scent - ignore the notes. If you’ve smelled plum (plum jap, bodicea glorious, dazzle) this will have a familiar profile. Seeing that this was released back in 99, I can confidently say it was well ahead of its time - although I’m
Sure it’s just the combination of notes playing tricks, I wouldn’t be surprised if plum were actually the main note in this - and has simply been left out of the breakdown because it would’ve been a lot harder to market a male plum dominant scent back in 99. Regardless - this is a real winner and I’m very sad that I’ve been completely unaware of this for the last 19 years. What a win!

Like Versace Blue jeans with a coca cola vibe, Sweet Vanilla & also reminds me of Boss Orange for men.

Fipo010812

This is a unique fragrance,i had never smelled anything like this fragrance
Its good? Yes , cheap? online yes 25€ for 75ml bottle.
Very juvenil , coca cola vibe kkk , best for cold days.
When i sniff this for the first time , i didnt like too much, but after i use for 1 week i like a lot.

I LOVE this fragrance! It's so oriental, mysterious, dusky, masculine, cold and sweet! I like fragrances with unique features that stand out from the rest, and this is definitely the one! I wear this at night, winter and fall for both chill and party.

ahmadeldeeb90

I DO LIKE THIS FRAGRANCE ,It's a unique one .

Sigi78

This has been the first Perfume that I bought. I was a young boy who went in the shop and in the mess of bottles this scent standed out. I Loved it, I weared this fragrance for several years this and now I am back again to it. So mysterious, dark and passionate. I love it! Very masculine.

Oldspice

Dark Blue is ok. A masculine, woody/spicy base and a definite cola vibe on top as others are reporting. Specifically, it smells like ginger ale.

Good longevity and projection. It seems like a versatile scent. Doesn't strike me as one that would be a big hit with the ladies though.

It's been discontinued but can still be found for cheap prices.

mkpunk

Hugo Boss Dark Blue is amazing. The three words I use to describe this is citrusy cola, woody and dark. The open is heavily citrus with a strong . Hugo Boss Dark Blue has a scent that reminds me of a citrusy cola like Coke Orange or Mezzo Mix with the grapefruit and lime mix as well as orange and lemon with ginger to spice it up. The scent is very woody with some mahogany seeping into the open from the mid and the cedar in the base. I feel that it also has a very dark feel to it, very similar to a less minty Cool Water Night Dive, especially in its open. That said, the scents themselves are different, rather it evokes a similar night-time watery feel.

This is one of the more interesting scents that I've owned. I honestly only get a handful of notes outside of the top notes. I notice the woods notes pretty noticeably along (as I mentioned before) with some sage and cypress in the mid and a slight vanilla base note, which helps the cola smell that I mentioned earlier. As I mentioned before, the most noticeable notes are in the open. As the scent dries down it gets weaker (despite having base comparisons to Versace Eros) which is a bit of a knock for this scent. The scent lasts for about five hours with an hour and a half or so with strong projection and moderate sillage before almost exclusively being a skin scent for the rest of the three and a half hours. It can be a day scent on colder days but otherwise it is a nice night time scent from fall to spring.

My rating for this scent is a bit of a weird one. I really want to rate this a love because it opens amazing to me but it kind of tops out there and goes down hill from there. It also only lasts about five hours so it wont last all night. For this I’ll rate this a 7.8. As I said, I really love the open, it’s pretty unique to my collection but it isn’t backed up to much with the back end. It opens strong like Night Dive but ends like a weakened Eros.

TheNewDumas

I bought this fragrance from Ross for $25 based entirely on the fact that it's Hugo Boss and I really like the color blue. This is fragrance is rancid. I've never hated a cologne so much in my life. It smells like a bag of Chinese five-spice or something. Extremely spicy. I immediately walked back into the store and returned it. Good riddance!

mutatismutandis

Well. this is an interesting one. I decided to get a bottle of Dark Blue before it tipped over from "discontinued and cheap" to "discontinued and bloody expensive". I paid £25 for a 75 ml bottle and that feels reasonable value for money.

The blue bottle (designed to resemble a cocktail shaker) is a lovely colour and an elegant shape but it's let down by the cheap and nasty grey lid which is made of some nasty plastic. And in a way, that seems rather seems symbolic and apt. You see, the notes are lovely - they are why I chose to buy it. Cedar and vetiver with benzoin and vanilla sounds like a perfect combination for a rich and elegant perfume in the base and the heart, with a few citrus notes on top and a splash of ginger. It seems like a recipe for a long-lasting, reasonable projecting perfume. It seems promising.

Indeed, Dark Blue does smell lovely, I'm pleased to say. During that first hour you get a little ginger, cypress, the lovely mahogany, cedar, benzoin and the vetiver. You can pick them all out and yet they combine to create an overall green accord. Lovely. I don't get much of the citrus notes but that's okay, I didn't buy it for them, I bought it pretty much for the notes I've just mentioned. So far, so good.

I don't normally think of smells as masculine or feminine but this one feels masculine to me. It's nicely understated and I think it feels more suited to evenings and nights than day wear. I also think it feels like summer is not really its time of year. It feels more autumnal and wintery, possibly early spring days where there is that crispness in the morning air.

There's surprisingly little projection. It is a skin scent within twenty minutes at the most. That's okay too. I don't believe that a perfume is no good unless it projects like a rocket launcher. I like subtlety and I like having a variety of perfumes in terms of projection as well as variety in different types of smell. So that was okay.

But then came the disappointment. The perfume didn't develop so much as vanish. It faded away quickly and was gone within three hours, which is most unusual for me. Normally I find perfumes last much longer on me than they do on most people so I can understand the reviews where people say there's nothing there. I even sprayed a couple of extra sprays on my chest after a couple of hours just to see if it's a perfume which needs a couple of extra sprays for it to stick around for a while. It didn't. It was a grey, rainy day with no sunlight and the temperature was mostly around 18 celsius/65 Fahrenheit so there were no adverse weather conditions either.

So what is my final conclusion? Do I regret buying it? Well, I'm disappointed that it didn't live up to my (admittedly high) expectations but I don't regret trying it and I don't regret buying it for the price I paid. It does smell nice after all and sometimes it's good to have a few perfumes which fade after a few hours because you can wear something different the same day without needing a shower to wash it off first. Would I recommend it? If you like the notes and you feel you would be getting your money's worth for what I've described, then yes. If not, no. Will I buy another bottle? That depends. It would require the price to remain under £30 for 75 ml. It would also require me to have no alternatives in the way of oriental spicy that I liked as much or better. I think, therefore, in all honesty, that I probably won't, but it is by no means certain.

Edit: gave it away in the end.

Very nice perfumes. Opens up with a citrus scent but finishes a bit woody. reminds me a lot of D&G L'amoureux N6.

I got this in 1999 as I was entering the duty free lounge and I loved the shape of the bottle a cocktail shaker. It is deep, it dark, and it is blue. Its simply sublime. It s very manly smell. One which i tak it was created for the millennium, like that fashion to herald in the year 2000. Full of exuberance and nothing left to chance. Smells evoke a memory and this just brings back seeing first light New Zealand, dressed way over the top with a COstume National Suit, with a Pair of Oliver Sweeneys Sohos on which were the height of fashion at the time and Viv West diamante skull and cross bone cufflinks, on a black D&G sheer silk shirt, sipping champagne surrounded by an atmosphere of this is going to be the biggest party and failing because of the rain and the fact everyone stayed at home. However I knew i smelt nice even if my suit shrank on Harbour bridge. It is the sort of fragrance that can lift your mood, when your girlfriend you find is cheating on you and have just found that out, however a lovely blue eyed blond says wow you smell an look great, can I buy you a drink and lets have private party to celebrate the sun coming up.

DrJosh

Perfect smell for me during daytime eventhough i'm lil bit sweaty person. The ginger smells so fresh at the first spray, and when the middle and base notes kick in, magical smells is inviting so many compliments.

So sad the Hugo Dark Blue wasn't producted anymore.

This has been a favourite of mine almost since its launch and it's my favourite Hugo Boss fragrance of the four that I own. As others have said, this one is below the radar and well worth checking out if you like a woody/citrus combination.

RobbieX

I agree with some comments, that there is a cola vibe going on here. Nice fragrance.

eddie.gallardo

This is a great cologne, but last about 30min. Save your money!

OCNBreeze7

Whoa - this juice is good.. !! Hugo Boss’ Dark Blue is not to be overlooked. For those of you who like the aromatic citrus blends (myself included), you will love Hugo Boss’ Dark Blue. Out of the bottle, you get the cool pleasant blend of aromatic and citrus notes with a background of vetiver – it is in there and I like it.. While geared more for Spring and Summer wear, there is sufficient diversity of notes to allow wear for most occasions and across seasons. Definitely office safe, but refined enough to engage in more formal events. Much to my surprise, performance is above average. Today, I found that Dark Blue lasted comfortably 5-6 hours and even longer on clothing – still going strong at the 8th hour on the cuff of my sleeve. The projection/sillage is average at about arm’s length until settling close to skin level around hour six. In my opinion, the price/value is good for this “best kept secret” for Spring/Summer wear. All said, my final tally for Dark Blue is 4.1 stars out of 5. If you are in search for a little known citrus aromatic fragrance that is underrated, I highly recommend adding Dark Blue to your collection. Enjoy your day and happy fragrance hunting…

A nice dark fruity/vanilla fragrance. The name "Dark Blue" is quite apt somehow. Longevity and silage are good. Reminds me, a little, of a mix between Obsession Night and Elements Aqua. I like this one.

AMajeedQT

Smells like ginger & cola.

Unique & casual.

Good for everyday wear.

Miran23kurd

I am a very big fan of vanilla notes, but the way vanilla is mixed up with the ginger, vetiver and cedar woody notes in this cologne just makes it repelling to me...

Well its the first time I dislike a fragrance with vanilla, this stuff is for sure not for me, I didnt know I cud one day dislike a frag with vanilla

Longetivity is pretty fine unfortunately

EauDeBaldy

Been wearing this for approx. a month.

A subtle soft yet touch of sharp scent. I personally like this one a lot, but I didn't notice it being an attention grabbing type of scent.

Maybe it varies with some but it seemed that it's soft enough that you can smell and its nice but not as unique or strong enough to make someone stop and ask what you're wearing.

This seems to be a trend with Hugo Boss fragrances ( exception of Boss Bottled )

It's like Hugo by Hugo Boss... you smell it, its nice but its not as out there enough to make you wonder about it.

I definitely recommend picking up a bottle if you see it, its definitely good to have, but don't expect anything extraordinary.

very good perfume from Hugo Boss.very cool and sweet smell....

An agreeable fruity fragrance. Similar to Hugo by Hugo Boss. It's nice in a thickly sweet way, though I can't smell the fresh spicy note. Not the kind of scent I'd wear every day because of the rather synthetic fruitiness, but I can appreciate wearing it from time to time, like every other weekend.

Before talking about Hugo Dark Blue, I must confess: normally, I am not a fan of Hugo Boss perfumes, not because of the fragrances, but because they never last long on my skin. And to my knowledge, this also happens to many people.

As much as I understand and defend the theory that lasting is personal and non-transferable, even so, when many people around the world complain about the same things of a certain fragrance, it is a sign that it is a common problem in the composition or in its manufacture. Fortunately, that didn't happen with this one. On the contrary, Hugo Dark Blue exudes and, above all, lasts very well, as well as Boss Intense, the latter being a feminine perfume.

Speaking of the fragrance, I feel little of the citrus notes on the output, except for a slight touch of ginger. Regarding the floral and woody heart that contains mahogany, cypress, geranium, and sage, I like very much and is very noticeable. The heart brings more woods and a very light creaminess that makes this perfume a creamy woody, due to its notes of patchouli, vetiver, and cedar, wrapped in benzoin, tobacco, and vanilla.

In my opinion, Hugo Dark Blue is a beautiful wildcard, great to be worn in any situation and temperature. It is proof that every rule has its exception!

Purchased, tested, discarded. Staying power nihil.

Hugo Dark Blue is not my cup of tea, at all. I usually enjoy ginger dominant fragrances, so I am a little taken aback by my distaste for this scent.

This fragrance's opening is rather medicinal and strong. It's not fresh but it is unique. Hugo Dark Blue is definitely a masculine fragrance. I think a woman would find this scent difficult to wear.

I believe that there has been some rumours concerning this fragrance's discontinuation. If that is true, I'm not surprised. If anything, Hugo Dark Blue is an acquired taste. The ginger note is dry and herbal, with cedar, cypress, vetiver and sage adding to that thick herbaceous quality.

I honestly wouldn't be too pleased if a partner of mine began wearing Hugo Dark Blue. To my nose, this fragrance is rather unpleasant. As much as I hate to say it, it smells a bit like vomit, at least in my opinion. This could have something to do with the fact that whenever I'm feeling ill, I make myself a ginger, orange and celery smoothie to boost my immunity. The taste isn't great, and neither is the smell.

On a more positive note, Hugo Dark Blue has good projection and excellent longevity. I'll conclude by saying that it's important to try this fragrance before buying it on impulse.

doesnt say ANYTHING! I wouldnt put my name on it if I was Hugo. Although ppl compare this to other Boss fragrances when theydidnt make this to compete with the others anyway. This was just as a sporty scent or ginger/aquatic scent. Im very selective with summer/aquatic fragrances because most are typical, generic, synthetic or smell like the rest. I have over 90 fragrances in my roster. This one was given to me because they hated it and i took it in to try it or use this one as a work fragrance to not use up my good stuff but quite frankly upon trying this, im a little skeptical to wear this since i dont want ppl associating me with this. its such a mundane scent and the ginger aint special in this. worse, the dry down reminds me of Perry Ellis which i hate. I love Perry Ellis Night though :) for some strange reson its called Night when it smells like a great summer, clean, day fragrance :)

Stockholmspolisen

Got this for my birthday.
Guess what, I'm very disappointed!

This smells far too synthetic and does neither last or project. I like Boss bottled a lot more than this since it smells more natural and last much longer.

If you want an expensive air freshener which smells spicy and sweet, then this is your fragrance. I don't know what to do with my 75 ml bottle. Perhaps I can save it as a memory of my birthday or use it when I'm going outside for a short while.

This is the best perfume I have ever used, manly, long lasting frag with good sillage...

''The worst tragedy for a poet is to be admired through being misunderstood.''

Hugo Dark Blue Is seductive, dangerous, intoxicating, and mysterious.

With a citrus opening and spicy mid, the base brings out the fresh warmth that makes Hugo Dark Blue the devilish potion that its meant to be.

With an elusive suede note, Hugo Dark Blue can somewhat be an alternative to the master piece that was Donna Karan Fuel.

You have to either be a bad boy or the stimulating, captivating, engaging, conversationalist, with mysterious undertones to pull this off. Think of Brandon Lee reciting ''The Sheltering Sky'' in his last interview.

If you're into Woody, spicy and fresh scents then perhaps you should give Hugo Dark Blue a try.

Silage is moderate and longevity is fair. I get 6-8 hours the most.

All year round fragrance. Works beautifully in chilled and relaxed temperatures. I can assure you, ladies love this stuff.

This fragrance become my signature, I use it for over ten years and for me is very unique and I didn't find yet any other fragrances like that. I've twelve more fragrance in my wardrobe like Gucci By Gucci, Armani Code Sport, Very Irrésistible For Men and others but Hugo Dark Blue is the number one.

Deefit

I had this some years ago, but they stopped selling it entirely where I live. Then I stumbled upon a good offer on eBay and bought it, just to smell it once again. I immediately remembered the smell and the good memories that came along with it. To me, it get's better after about an hour, when the top notes settle down.

Longevity and sillage are good, but Hugo Boss never dissapointed me in those areas.

khasan

Not a very good perfume from Hugo Boss. Specially its not like what I expected before bought it. It stays 3 hours max. on skin. Boss Bottled (1998) is much better than this....

Tahir Mirza

Very cool to me & longevity is good.

Bigsly

It has what I call a chemical/syrupy quality (similar to Joop! Jump Summer Temptation). but if that doesn't bother you the spiciness is nice, and it feels like a marine note is in here too. After this faded I got very little, but it was only a dab sampling. When I wear it normally I'll update this review.

UPDATE: Sampling on cloth and I get a lot of spiciness, a powdery element, a little sweetness, perhaps a hint of woods, and still a kind of syrupy or creamy quality. It smells good but my fear is that it will smell synthetic when I wear it normally so I'll report back when I do that.

praveenpnair

Gud one !! will rate 8/10 .

garett

Bought it original and not fake , but always make me wonder otherwise , cuz this stupid perfume has nothing in it.I smell nothing , just some ginger water. It is just lying there in my closet from 2009 , i wish i never woulda bought it.Even if it does try to give me some smell , it lasts in 10 minutes.May be they forgot to put fragrance in my bottle and still made me pay for this worthless piece of cocktail bottle crap.
BYE BYE BOSS , hugo etc, whatever

dancinleroy

I like it. I dont love it. It's sweet, and with the listen notes, I dont see how it really could be as sweet as it is. I was hoping for a ginger, woody, citrus scent and it's darker and deeper than that. the orange is very pronounced in the beginning giving it a sweet/citrus and ginger opening, then it settles into an almost candy-like wood scent that lasts a good while. It is subtle but not strictly a skin scent. It leaves a slightly spicy/musky/woody trail in the drydown that is my favorite part. I would definitely recommend this to be worn at night, in a casual setting for the summer or fall and winter would be ideal for a warm but light scent.

pinballsummer

A very strong and masculine scent, that's perfect for evenings and formal wear. It worked on my skin, however mileage varies (as the comments here indicate), and it might not be for you...it's of very acquired taste.

I remember that projection and longevity was huge (at least on the splash-on cologne), as well.

coooolash

nice n long lasting .. good for summers ...

overall 7/10

stanky

A very pleasant rich woody scent. It stays close to my skin and it reminds me of the dry down for Hugo Boss Elements Aqua.

stepburn

a strong scent, longevity is great. but it's not for me

ANSD

This a very long lasting perfume. Despite of enjoying all the notes of this stuff, there is something on it that annoys me...I can't figure out what.

Thanks for the tip, Dad jax - absolutely. I would never have found that out without this website, so thanks to Fragrantica, too.

bellzii

Its just my perfect match, its quite lasting too

Hugo Boss Dark Blue is a fragrance rich in nuance, in the opening with the surprising freshness of citrus fruits: grapefruit on all that ginger seems to dance to a waltz by Strauss. In the middle the wood of mahogany, with geranium and sage blend in a clean heart and generous (perhaps the most sublime) but the bottom is not far behind (wood and resin) give a tone mixed with the classic avant-garde.
This I believe is one of the best fragrances I have ever heard, the first spray it is hit by a sweetness that accompanies us for several hours ... I would also add that in my opinion that it is not so inflated as originality is me Platinum Egoiste recalls.

Fell in love with it, back in 2002.

Masculine, elegant, fits well with formal clothing.

Mushroomfat

I can't pik what it is but it reminds me exactly of another scent, it
Smells almost identical to something else. I'm thinking something along the lines of Beckham Intimitely.
It's starts of fruity spicy then the wood set in, that sounds familiar too.
I'm not saying it's a copy, just racking my brains on what it is I relate it too.

Dad jax

Buy oriflame EXCITE with exactly the same smell but 2 times less price and suprisingly very good lasting !

diamond123

i tried this a few years ago and was not that keen
it was rather weak and it smells like a toilet cleaner

jazz444

I detect some dried fruit (somewhat Egoiste-like) up top, but then the base notes kick in shortly thereafter. As such, it's mostly linear on my skin, but has superb longevity and tenacity as well as good sillage.

And here's my dilemma: Would I save Dark Blue if the house was burning down? No. But each time I wear it, I'm constantly surprised at how much I enjoy it.

bronstein

I've never been a fan of this one, and now it's even starting to smell dated. What I do like about it is the hint of dry fruits at the beginning, a bit reminiscent of Lagerfeld's Jako. However, this particular feature soon wears out, leaving an indifferent, unremarkable, common male scent.

So masculine and nice. Strong, fresh and gentle. But not good longevity.

In my opinion better than other Hugo colognes.

Sumeer

I Like this one...a must have in any collection...

mado17

It is a good fragrance....not extraordinary, nice oriental smell...good lasting power...always receives nice compliments...but cannot be described as a marvellous scent..

vertigo

Woody-spicy-fresh.

The dark side of Hugo.
A bit sweeter, warmer and more distinct than the composition from 1995.

Made for evening and night use, when a man reveals his occult (during the day) countenance - an unstoppable, bursting with creative energy heart-catcher, affectionate lover and a king of pubs and discos.

Made for people who implement their plans and use life well.

Hugo Dark Blue doesn't argue with Hugo. You can use Hugo during the day and it's 'dark' version in the evening. Don't worry that the leftovers of the fragrance on a jacket or coat will react badly with the new scent.

Festive and entertaining character of the fragrance is underlined by the bottle in the shape of a shaker, designed by Peter Schmidt.

promoscanner

Used this one for a long time, though it has been replaced by others. Pleasantly masculine, spicy and crisp. Reminds me of cola mixed with ginger and pepper.
