Dirty English for Men by Juicy Couture is a Woody Spicy fragrance for men. Dirty English for Men was launched in 2008. Top notes are Cedar, Mandarin Orange, Cardamom, Bergamot and Caraway; middle notes are Leather, Atlas Cedar, Sandalwood, Vetiver and Marjoram; base notes are Oud, Ebony, Musk, Oakmoss and Amber.

Dirty English is the first fragrance for men by trendy house Juicy Couture. The fragrance is presented in March 2008 as 50ml (1.7 fl.oz) and 100ml (3.4 fl.oz.) EDT.

Dirty English for Men is created in cooperation with Claude Dir, the nose of the Givaudan house. It opens with peppered mandarin, blue cypress, Calabrian bergamot, cumin and cardamom. The heart brings marjoram and black leather accords accompanied with sandalwood, Atlas cedar and vetiver root which create a fatal effect, while the base reveals agarwood, ebony, black moss and amber musk.

This fragrance is devoted to irresistibly charming \'bad guys\' who live fast, crazy and for the moment.

This is a very okay masculine fragrance.
Smells like some one that wears cheap fake leather.

DIRTY ENGLISH BY JUICY COUTURE
ENGLISH OUD

Fantastic fragrance even if it's quite synthetic. It reminds me a bit of the discontinued original Gucci Pour Homme from 2003.
It has a slightly above-average performance and gives you a divine leather/wood experience with a twist of oud. You feel like having just parked your Harley before spraying this dirty juice. It is a bit dark just the way I like it. The blending seems to be somewhat complex and a balsamic camphoraceous and resinous accord is also to be noted.
It's a fragrance that I like to wear.
I layered it with a vanilla scent for some added sweetness and the result was awesome as well.
A clear suggestion for Juicy Couture to make a Dirty Oud Leather Vanilla Englishman.
Let's see the math for Dirty Englishman:
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
- Scent opening: 8.5 (very good - my judgement, my taste)
- Scent Dry Down: 8.0 (still good but a bit faint)
- Longevity: 7.5 (7 hours + with 3 sprays)
- Sillage: 7.5 (more than 4 feet for 3 hours with 3 sprays; projects noticeably for 2 hours); practical skin scent till the 8th or 9th hour.
- Uniqueness: 8.5 (not really unique but very well blended and similar to various niche perfumes, not similar to cheapies)
- Wearability: 8.0 (high for an oud blended fragrance)
- Versatility: 8.0 (high for an oud blended fragrance. but avoid hot weather).
- Quality: 8.0 (my judgement; It is a bit synthetic but there are clearly some unusual ingredients that make it very pleasant, namely a note generating a light camphoraceous touch)
- Presentation: 7.0 (not at all discrete but acceptable)
- Price: 10.0 (100 ml tester for 18 Euros and free shipping in superesencia.com)
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
Average: 8.13 / 10.00
In my top choices? Not really but a very nice scent anyway.
Will I buy it again? Probably, but only at mentioned price and after ending my current bottle.
Is there another inexpensive Oud fragrance I like as much as this one? Yes, Bogart's Oud edition for instance.
Will I recommend it? YES due to the scent, and price.
This fragrance could be worn by dirty Englishman Peter O'Toole in Lawrence of Arabia.

#620 in my "Tour de Fragrance"

I remember twenty years ago when Juicy Couture was a big deal and all the high school girls were at the mall snapping up everything they made. That was when the company dipped it's toe in men's fragrance with "Dirty English." I saw it on the shelf, in the women's clothing section of course, of the now defunct Macy's Outlet, at the now defunct Factory Shoppes Mall, and I ignored it, assuming it would disappear from the market as the would all the Juicy Couture items when the fad had run its course. Juicy Couture, surprisingly, is still here, though I haven't seen a butt go by with "Juicy Couture" emblazoned in sequins in 20 years. This scent is also still here, and FragranceNet had this sprayette, so what the hell.

This is actually not bad at all. If you like woody fragrances, and I love them, you'll definitely get wood here. In fact the only real objection I have to this is its EDT performance, the same objection I have to every EDT. This will not make it to lunch. But if there were an EDP strength version of this I'd probably be a buyer. There is in fact an EDP that's somewhat similar to this, Al Haramain's "Excellus." Unfortunately the much stronger synthetic bergamot oil in the Excellus triggers my sinuses into 20 minutes of runny nose, so I can't use it, even though it's a nice, inexpensive scent. But if you like this scent category and don't have my issues with bergamot, Excellus is out there, more vanillic and less woody, but close, and for roughly the same price as this scent with far better performance.

I don’t know why everyone’s voting “more male”. Years ago, I tested it at a Walgreens and felt it was very attractive; thought of getting it, but decided not at the last minute. Years went by, and I kept thinking about it (I’m a fan of leathers; Cuir de Russie is my signature). Every time I came here, checked and loved the notes, but then saw how overwhelmingly everyone’s voting “male” and deleted it from my basket.

Finally got it. Maybe it’s my skin. Maybe it’s because I like male-ish scents (Envol and Creation by Lapidus being way up there for me), but I certainly didn’t feel les feminine when I sniffed it on me. I actually think it’s far more unisex than a lot of the unisex fragrances out there.

I wouldn’t recommend blind-buying, but certainly DO give it a whirl. Particularly if you’re sick of all the Fruity Pebbles out there these days and are partial to chiphres. DO let it warm up a touch before you make the call. Live in it a bit.

It’s giving me a less headache-inducing , softer Pi.

Dthereal

Nice cheapie!!! Love this fragrance. Great scent !! and if you can get it under $30 even better !!! Worth the price imo. A lot of people complain about performance. It’s cheap down yourself in it who cares !!! Do 7-8 sprays if you want to for longetivity

Tenorsaxophone

Tried an original formulation, same vein as Tommy Bahama original but without that heavier dream like rum quality. But still suitable comparison. Think they can still be easily found for under 10 for those travel .5 oz sizes that contain the original formulation . Seems like most full bottles now are the new diluted formulation , formulation I tried has good projection as well .

SmellSharpe

I loved this fragrance on release. I recently saw a recent bottle on sale for under $20/100 and I bought it. Now I know why it was so cheap. The new formulation of this is garbage. Yes, it does smell good, but for honestly 5-10 minutes. Most of my cheap aftershaves last much longer.

Just don’t buy newer bottles of this. The bottles you want have the metal charms around the bottle neck, not just the plain plastic cap.

richmilton

I found a solution to the 30 minutes longevity other than reapplying every half hour. This solution solved the longevity problem with this fragrance almost magically. It finally dawned on me what to do. I smashed the bottle with a hammer like Hillary Clinton and Tom Brady did you their phone and the problem magically went away.

Irma_d_saveur

smells bad apparently. Can't wear it now anyway as it pulled a disappearing act (I think my GF threw if out... said it smelt like a garbage burning pit).

JKeto

The scent itself is fine, but the longevity and sillage are absolute garbage. 10+ sprays and after 30 minutes it's a skin scent.

ismellsomething

I got myself batch from 2022-02-01. Presentation is much cheaper looking than old batch, sticker on front and plastic cap with no chain. Atomizer is ok. Opening is ceder dominant but not fully like Bentley for Man Absolute with sharp smell of cut ceder, Dirty English its more aromatic wood scent. Projection is low, longevity still testing.

Flack Attack 72

Not as strong as back in the day....but still smells damn good!!!!!! @$20 for 100ml blind buy safe, in my opinion!!!

kaurg

First impressions. Sweet citruses, leather, woody notes. Not bad, but nothing memorable either. Performance is on the weaker side, as others have noted.

0ISmellBest

This is a great scent. I guess all Elvis impersonators wear this one. I read it somewhere. All the ones who have the long sideburns. Not the Elvis impersonators with the short pre-army sideburns. I feel bad the king wasn't around for this one. I get the impression colonal would have banned it from his dressing room, but he would have snuck it in with his peanut butter collection. Elvis would have worn the metal dangly things from the bottle with his TCB chain and sung Don't Be Cruel hunka hunka burning love. This scent to me is a cross between Gucci pour homme and Luis Rochas. If you get hold of the shower soap version even more so. A great smell. Thank you very much

Dzarsos

I'm disappointed I missed the original formulation on this one - I got a bottle of the new version on the "very cheap", and I'm still annoyed to be out the money that it cost me. This is like a cheap, shitty version of cheap, "okay" versions of things I bought, years back, when I was just starting out collecting.

It's like someone took Bentley Absolute, substituted a bunch of water in place of whatever aroma chemical makes that one linger for so damn long, added a 1ml sample vial of some mass-appealing thing (I'm leaning "Gucci Guilty"), and then decanted it into an empty bottle of Versace Oud Noir, before they bottled it up and sold it.

I'm mightily disappointed, and I will be passing this off to someone else ASAP. Probably a teen, as I don't think anyone else can really excuse wearing it.

Thevoiceofthesnake

@ETC , the first thing i thought of when i saw tiger :))

ETC

I hope Zoologist Tiger smells like this but with better quality!

Sean Bodin

Not as dirty as I thought. :O) Very weak.

FiveOfCups

God awful smell upon first blast that smells like dirty tobacco pipe and bandaids. Thankfully this stink wears off quickly. Literally no smell after minutes of applying, which is a good thing.

JamesPawn

its just so weak and poor performance you could dump the whole bottle on yourself and it would still be a skin scent and gone in like 30 mins. this needs to too be heavy sprayed too get any performance. 8 sprays just dump to whole bottle on yourself
i really like this scent wish it was stronger and had better performance.

CoachSignature88

This one I wish I would have just skipped. The new reformulated version with the plastic cap is weak garbage. It’s the weakest cologne I’ve ever sprayed…. Skin scent from first spray. All I get is a very very light Smokey oud wood scent. Once again reformulation ruins another great scent. Skip this one trust me it’s not worth it. I’ve smelt stronger fakes..

Philippe De Montauvant

Spray this profusely. Spray, spray, spray!

Messidor

The main accords and listed notes had me believe it to be a nice perfume, and some hypes describing it as a street gang's perfume or lady killers perfume further had my curiosity piled up. I was happy to get a sample and my testing was… is this it? Street gang's perfume? Lady killers? Shouldn't there be more cannabis and tobacco or something? The "gangsters/ladykillers" living in those hypes really should take some courses in Aesthetics.
This perfume is at best banal, though it might have had some originality when first released.
Don't believe in any hypes with key words such as gang and ladykiller.

Stephen N

A coworker of mine has an older bottle of this, and let me try a few sprays of this today. While I'm not a fan of oud fragrances, this is pretty nice. The oud note in this is not the "barnyard funk" that is described by reviewers when talking about Middle Eastern Oud fragrances, it more reminds me of a Swiss Arabian brand oud fragrance I sampled once that was just a blend of Cambodian, Vietnamese, and Laotian Ouds in it's peppery/woody smell, but it's smoother, and does not have the moldy funk to it the Swiss Arabian had.

I wasn't even aware this brand HAD men's fragrances, now my curiosity is piqued.

TheComedian

I have the older bottle with metal cap and charms, and see some talk of possible reformulation with the newer plastic-capped bottle. Let me say: The old formula is pretty weak, too. It starts off strong, dry, woody, and slightly peppery but fades fast. Almost a skin scent after a couple of hours. Could just be my skin chemistry so YMMV, as is always the case with fragrance.

This smells much like Bentley Absolute which smells like the now-discontinued Gucci pour Homme. For a better expression of this scent profile and for the same price, I'd recommend going for Bentley Absolute instead. That one's a powerhouse and it's even done by the same perfumer who did Gucci PH (Michel Almairac). Can safely skip this one IMO.

kyten

I was a little disappointed when I opened the box and didn’t have the charm on the bottle but other then that it’s good for the value

ChezdeParfums

I bought this in 2008 just after it was released and spent way too much of my teenage budget on it, but I loved it. I probably also wore way too much of it, but oh well.

I’ve been on the search for it for the last few years, but have never seen it below $60, and it’s just not worth that too me especially with what folks are saying about it having been watered down.

Just went into a Burlington on a whim and saw it for $20. Completely made my day. I put a spray test into the box because I have to work later and this stuff used to be nuclear. It smells exactly as I remember it. “Dirty” is right, but it’s also very confident. I’m not sure if it’s been changed, but it is enough the same to take me back to high school in an instant.

I’m not sure how often I’ll wear it, but I’m glad to have this piece of nostalgia.

Rentree

I blind bought this for a friend and tested it because I was curious, is this a secret cheapie icon? My answer is… kind of? This scent is extremely long lasting on clothes, lingering days afterward, which makes sense because it smells like oranges and cinnamon which are common deodorant scents due to their longevity. Multiple people have mentioned this scent having a B.O. reputation and I will say that it does not actually have that level of complexity, but if you are around Taylor Swifts age the scent suggests B.O. due to its notes being so common in body sprays of a certain time. It is undeniably masculine. It smells like a rotten pomander ball with a cinnamon heart chaser. It smells like dancing with a strange man at the club. I think if you are not a bro dude guy, this is a subversive masculine sexy scent. Cold weather definitely.

cologneboi

this smells like the definition of cologne.

m2k

I really loved this, but the new bottles smell so much waterier and broken down now. Reminds me of the water left over after you've boiled smoked sausages. Or you added so much water to a great bourbon that you don't like all of the separate parts you now taste so much as you did the whole.

With the 'metal cap' version before, though, this smelled like dirty, boozy pencil shavings. It had a base of cedar, surrounded by sweet oranges, whiskey, and dirty oud. I would've gladly paid retail if they'd kept it around, though its price at Marshall's probably helped it gain popularity.

Wearing the original into the dry down 24 hours later, it's very different, but the base is still there and is heavenly. It smells like sweet, creamy sandalwood and leather, similar to the dry down of Vera Wang for Men, though these fragrances are very different otherwise.

Also, I used to think "macerating" a fragrance was just something people made up. But having gone through most of the 1.7 oz original bottle and compared it to the previously unused 3.4 oz bottle that came in the same gift set, the 1.7 oz version is stronger, more concentrated, and just smells better. So maybe spraying the new bottles consistently and allowing them to age a bit may make them better?

I really loved this stuff. Can be worn year-round, even in summer, but at night.

Trueblood84

Dirty English is a hidden gem. I get rum n coke with hints of wood which smells amazing off my skin. My only complaint is poor to average sillage, but that honestly makes it more wearable in certain occasions, where most my fragrance are too powerful such as riding public transportation or visiting a Dr. It is also in the goldilocks zone of potency meaning it can be worn in high temperature and not get cloying, while having enough push to survive the cold at the same time. I wish they had never discontinued this it'd make a great signature but until I get a backup I'm babying this bottle. 9/10 Would be 10 if it were just a bit stronger.

DWCMUA

Wet dog. Perhaps I got a reformulation but it smells repulsive on my skin!

ry_ta

For the money it's not bad, but I'd recommend spending more to get a better cologne as I don't believe this one is worth a purchase. Sure, you can buy a Bulova for $300, but for an extra $200 you can buy a Hamilton. Save your money and buy a more worthwhile fragrance.

The perfect time to wear this would be on a hiking trip in the fall or early spring, more for you than for other people though. The woody notes lend itself well to being in the outdoors.

Ultimately there is something to like here outside of the price point and value proposition, but buy a sample of it first before committing.

RLB1979

Ok so I never had any intention on picking this up but saw it for $20 at a Shoppers Drug mart so I thought why not splurge right? I have only worn it testing wise on my hand, so far it seems decent especially for $20 CAD, It's masculine, woody upon dry down the musk and vetiver kind of anchor it more as it dries down more, I have had it on for about 4 hrs now and yea it doesn't project much but it is still there laying close to the skin, It kinda has a woody shower gel essence about I'm not saying that as a negative either, it in no way is mind blowing but for the price I paid it is better than expected

Hilly514

The first 5 minutes are pure alcohol. It then dries down into a woody scent. Not fresh woods, but more like antique wooden furniture mixed with a slight sawdust note and a sprinkle of citrus overtop. Very weak performance, but smells nice. If this had better performance it’d make it much much better.

[email protected]

The performance on the original was never great, it seems like the Elizabeth Arden version is worse, if you like this, i would recommend trying "Booze and Baccy by Captain Fawcett" it's a lot stronger and in the same sort of family

SomebodyToKnow

All i smell is iso e super.

Piersicaru

Got this today and won’t even bother to wait for a full wear due to the performance (was expecting it to be bad, but now confirmed).
The scent is unbelievable. True masterpiece. People compare it to UK pubs. Spot on. My mind tends to associate this smell to what I believe the medieval castles would smell like (dinning hall, hallways etc) during wet seasons.
It really smells dirty, leathery, and has lots of woods.
It’s such a shame that it does not perform. This is a great scent for one to wear for themselves.
At this price, even get some decants for on the go, why not ? :D

I’ll still rate this 10/10 due to the scent.
Highly recommend for the daring noses.

Angelov1314

Jesus the fish pepper soup smell almost killed me, if you smell far away it’s 4/5 without too much unpleasant smell, if you smell closely to the skin it’s 2/5. Overall 3/5

Thevoiceofthesnake

One of the best perfumes ever made IMO.
Scent: 10/10
Performance: 3/10

Im really looking for an alternative or a clone with a better performance, if you know a good one please send me a message. All of the similar perfumes above are not even close to this masterpiece.

CreepyKid

Dirty English is a strange one to me. It smells appealing enough and has a slightly enchanting character to it, but like it's name it does smell dirty. Not a filthy or gross dirty though, more of an antique furniture or damp woods left sitting outside type of dirty. Don't expect a dewy forest this is more of a wet lumber yard woody. Maybe you were building your deck or siding that barn but it rained the night before and now everything is soaked through. That kind of damp wood and sawdust scent or an old hardwood dresser having sat in an attic for decades. There's a miniscule citrus and grassy undertone as well but it's mostly wood. So again it's definitely weird in that regard but surprisingly nice, like to the point you keep smelling it. People may find it off putting to an extent if they're not into woody fragrances. Decent enough.

Kuldeep S

I tried it today in 40 degree centigrade with 12 sprays. This was my first wear. I only get its whiffs in 1-2 hour, after that you have to bury your nose to get the fragrance. The smell reminds me of moustache EDP.

joshuabrian

I wish I had the chance to smell this in it’s former glory. That being said, I got a 3.4 oz bottle for 20 dollars and for that price it’s pretty nice. The performance is not good for me, so I only spray it on clothes and quite heavily. Smells lovely though.

CristoCologne

Wow, this is a smoky, citrusy, leathery, woody scent. it is delicious. It reminds me of being in a faux biker bar or a dive bar (which just happens to be in an upscale neighborhood in the city) where hipsters go to play bad boy. Leather jackets, Wood decor, burning tobacco and incense and citrus based cocktails.

I got the newer plastic cap version, and although many people here say it has terrible performance, I must disagree. Maybe I got a good bottle, but mine performs admirably well, not exactly beast mode, but really pretty good. I can easily smell it after 6 hours, which is not bad at all. It leaves a nice scent bubble all around for a couple of hours, then becomes an arms length scent after that.

This really reminds me of almost a combination of Bentley Absolute, and Dark Rebel/Rider it is a little sweeter and more citrusy than Bentley Absolute, and a little Drier and less leathery than the Varvatos'. This has become an instant favorite.

baratrion

Great scent but it doesn't live up to its potential because of its performance. I got mine from Amazon UK, not sure it's the batch or it's reformulated or anything but it's just plain watery for me after the initial opening. It's almost gone after an hour.

Howdy8x

Should rename it Celtic Mist , because its super refreshing , mystical and homie .

Zizi518

Dirty English opens with a spicy woody accord that has this mature, rugged, masculine biker with leather jacket feel and has a bit of an old school vibe. The opening is a bit harsh and very slightly animalic. The woody notes are dark, earthy, sour and slightly boozy. The oud is very very soft and almost doesn't really smell like oud. Cardamom and other spicy notes add a warm spicy quality. There's also some citrus present to balance out the heavier notes. Very linear and doesn't develop much. Personally not a huge fan of this one, I think there are just too many better options for a woody/warm spicy masculine scents that are better quality, more interesting and refined. However this is quite cheap with decent projection in the beginning. It also has a really cool bottle which is a plus.

Vince1964

Basically gets a dislike from me but maybe just okay ½hr after dry-down. I only get a sour floral citrus nuance on my skin and a massive alcohol opening that hurt my nose! The dry-down was floral with hardly any leather or boozy notes.

Overall, it's sour-floral, citrus-woody. The ambiance is confused and somewhat jumbled, I'm not a fan and glad I only wasted 22 nikka on a wannabe fragrance. I think Wood DSquared2 EDT might be the better option.

Also, most people do not receive a metal cap with jazzy ornaments, you'll receive a plastic molded cap with no jazzy ornaments, as I did.

Dawnyallah

I liked this as a younger guy. I still wear it once in a while and the formulation has not changed from my experience. 3-4 sprays and I am good for about 6-7 hours. It really is subtle after a while, but trust me, others still smell it. It is relatively linear & moderately priced (edt, with charms). If you are having longevity problems, you may NOT have the EDT. My EDT's have always performed like oily EDP's---that Is why I love this juice. The oudh note is faint, but seems synthetic---maybe Iso E or something. Good little musky leather, and performance is solid. Also, it may be a bit too pungent for the hottest weather (I switch off to Versace Eau Fraice when triple digits hit Texas).

I recommended this to one of my customers at the cigar shop. He is 26 and still has his first colognes; Curve and Armani Code(said they were too sweet). So, the Dirty English may be a proper, well timed fit. A safe blind buy. Do not over pay for this edt (Whoops, he did).
Shop 📪 around, it is cheaper.

tecfield

To my nose it is more leathery than woody in dry down. The opening is more woody but just for a few minutes. Oud is next to non-existence here. And you have to very well over spray it to get a normal silage. And no matter how much you over spray it, it would become a skin scent in less than 2 hours. Having said all of that, it smells pleasant but also forgettable. Am I disappointed at blind buying it? No. Will I buy it again? No. I cannot complain for $15 I spent on it.

MngoTango2021

Blind bought this 100ml for $20 cad at Shoppers Drug Mart Toronto. Really great fragrance. Regular compliment getter. You have to over spray a bit if you want a nice scent bubble, but it is a very warm and spicy fragrance with great sillage and long lasting on my skin and clothes. A real banger!

RealWen

Warm spicy long lasting perfume. People here saying its not long lasting? Maybe my bottle is too old and it has concentrated. The performance is pretty good if I sprayed it on my clothes. Just as the name indicates, this perfume smells "dirty". The opposite of freshy ones but I like it (from a girls opinion).

EMSFraghead

The smell is very masculine and very good. I do quite enjoy the roughness and spicy wood it presents with a nice powderyness to it. The only thing is, it that this lasts about as long as most of my relationships. Gone in a heartbeat. This thing doesn't even reach thirty minutes! This pains me. If it works for you then it's a perfect 8.3/10 for the price, but due to it not lasting I may never pick up a bottle no matter how cool the dangly metal looks.

kateapple

This came out when I was around 16, and I remember being absolutely floored by it. My high school smelled like a mix of your generic aquatic and fresh scents meant for teen boys, and when I found out that guys could smell like this? Well honestly, I liked it so much I bought a bottle for myself when I started college. I still have a bottle to this day and I still love it.

In today’s market it’s not as unique as it used to be, but it still holds up. My bottle is a little older so I can’t speak to the supposedly less strong current formulation, but this is a woody-leather dream with a hint of orange that make it reminiscent of Hermes Eau des Merveilles. (Not a dupe by any means, just a cousin.) While this is definitely more traditionally masculine in nature, it still has all the comforts of a cozy unisex scent. Probably not for someone who goes for more traditionally feminine, floral scents - but hey, it’s what turned me on to wearing mens/unisex scents, so who knows?

It’s also remarkably affordable - my bottle was $20 at the time and you can still find it for cheap. So if you’re on the fence about trying it, I’d say give it a whirl!

AbeStreet

I find it odd that Juicy Couture has only released one masculine fragrance? They clearly have a good product with Dirty English and, overall, people seem to really enjoy it.

First, the presentation is a mixed bag. If you're looking at the bottle pictured here on Fragrantica you will not get that bottle. Take away the charms on the cap and turn the cap from metal into plastic and that is the bottle you will receive. It is still attractive, from a distance, but the changes I mentioned give what is really an attractive design a cheap feel.

Second, the name of this fragrance couldn't be more appropriate. This is not a sweet, crowd pleasing, fragrance and that is why it is so attractive. It is a strong, warm, and boozy fragrance that does conjure up the image of a working persons bar/tavern. It conveys confidence with little regard for those that might not like it. It wouldn't be my go to fragrance for date night but I wouldn't mind wearing it and my date wouldn't either.

Lastly, given its longevity, only a few hours before it all but disappears, and it's cheap feeling bottle, I don't think it is appropriately priced. Still, I think it will sit well on most dressers and while it should be priced lower it is not a rip off.

SimplDude

I love this one ❤️ I own a bottle since 2018 and bought a 50 ml back up bottle, the one with that charm. A light fresh spicy masculine scent with a bit of booze as well as sweetness. The Oud note here seems timid, but it’s in the background like a friendly ghost. I find this easy to wear. Simply gorgeous and addicting to my nose. I wear this at home on rotation with others for the most part. I personally enjoyed reapplying once in awhile because of its aroma so I didn’t really noticed the longevity issue.

This is one of the best in my gem collection that I didn’t even know it was being compared to Gucci Pour Homme which I haven’t put my nose on yet, ever. If this one is good, GPH1 must be a very beautiful frag.

I’ll give this little guy a 9.5/ 10
Try before you buy 👍😉

Coming from a female, I love this perfume. It's nice and spicy and warm and lovely. Opening is a bit too masculine for me but after I enjoy wearing it on cooler, fall and winter days. However, it lasts maybe 30 minutes (on clothes or skin) and projects about 2cm. It's horrible for that and wouldn't reccomend which is a shame because the scent is lovely and you can get for a great deal.

SiNiSt3r

Recently bought this, the new formulation/bottle design doesn't last me more than 2-4 hours even when I overspray, the projection is barely noticable at least according to the people I asked, its a close encounter smell
But the scent itself is fantastic, a youtuber called Aussie Marcel called this the perfect men's fragrance if not for the performance and I agree with him, I would wear this anytime except hot summer days, I don't regret buying this despite the horrible performance, I'm happy with spraying this on my forearm and smelling it myself

Christian77

Dark and smoky, with just enough resinous sweetness and a hint of brightness from the cypress and orange to give it some lift. Just gorgeous.

I, too, would love this to be stronger, but I’ve resigned myself to be happy with it as it is.

DennisMK

If only the longevity was a beast, what a killer fragrance this would've been!

Gave away my half empty bottle a couple of years ago to my brother. Smells amazing but the longevity was at tops 1hr, after that you'd have to press your nose against the skin to pick anything up. Very surprised to see that the majority of people voted "moderate" on longevity... Maybe I had a Monday-type of bottle.

Great looking bottle!
Great smell!
Very Weak longevity sadly.

jasontallwood

Update - It may be my imagination but the current batch I have as I'm on bottle #2 is a bit stronger. The batch code is JYMF00002 . It's still not beast mode or any of that but it surprised me.

This is based on the re-release not the one shown in the photos. We're talking plastic cap. This scent has so much potential and I love the scent but at times is it ever weak as I alternate between quite a lot of different fragrances. I wish they would release a stronger version that lasted longer and projected better. The only way you could do an entire day with this is 7 or more sprays. Which years ago I'd never spray that much of any fragrance no matter how cheap it was but it makes sense with this how weak this can be.

for me to get a "love" out of this I would want it to project more and just be stronger while maintaining the character of this scent.

This is a classy and sophisticated scent. Not for people just getting into fragrances, yet it may be difficult for someone 50+ to wear as well. It takes elements from older fragrances similar to a generic "pour homme" fragrance like Azzaro released and adds some modern elements to it. I think this would excel with someone in their 20s to somewhere in your 40s. This is similar to Gucci Guilty Absolute. I get traces of Dior Fahrenheit from it, it's not headache strong and way more wearable than that Azzaro. It's more sweet in a way that isn't unisex and "Boozy" and a bit sour that work well together There is a rich fullness to it. It's a bit of this warm spiciness, it's addictive. You just smell wealthy wearing this luxurious wood based scent with some faint traces of leather and this almost dark rum like scent. It doesn't project enough to fill up a room unless you probably bathed in this with 10 or more sprays. Yet it'll draw people in to you if they smell this. It's for a more mature or grown up person but this scent does not seem out dated like a bargain bin musk or one of those 60+ year old man strong headache soap scents.

I blame this scent for why I ended up checking out more Oud based fragrances. It's not an oriental spicy or a dark scent like the box suggested. If you're after something energetic like a sports body spray, an oriental spicy or something along those styles of fragrances this isn't it and why would it be with a name like that.

It's an easy to wear scent. I usually wear this if I got a few quick things to do or late a late walk with the dog as I can't imagine doing 8+ hours with this unless you added ISO E Super or something to it. I think this would work best are a casual dinner or drinks at a local bar. Suits and ties if you are confident enough. Maybe a first date scent. In an Office, walks in a forest or park in the fall. Yet it has some potential to be worn at night. It would be strange to see someone wear this at a club dancing. I don't know why but who am I to stop you from wearing a scent that isn't one million, eros or one of the 9999 Aventus clones out there. The way they are marketing this scent seems a bit off as if this is a scent for risk takers and that sort of thing. This is just a classy or sophisticated scent that smells a lot more expensive than it is. The way certain shills on youtube would describe bentley or men intense.

I would have called this scent something else, not necessarily another bland generic "pour homme" but something other than Dirty English. Originally looking at the box in a drug store I was thinking it was going to be something similar to Drakkar Noir, Creed Aventus or a dark and sexy scent similar to the original Black XS from around 2005 by Paco Rabanne. The box has a nice weight to it so not some little 30ml bottle because what if this is the next scent I wear more than anything. There's always that naive hope. When I opened it up and sprayed it I was like what the (insert curse word). The bottle is pretty. The cheap sticker to show the brand and the plastic molded chain cap aside. Either way if they keep making this change the box! I probably wouldn't have bothered with this if it didn't have this black box with Old English font as it got my hopes up being something totally different. Still kicking myself I didn't get English Laundry London (Aventus copy) in the same bargain bin based on reviews as it would have been more of something i would have wanted that day but it's grown on me. I quickly have gone through 1/4th of the bottle in a year.

is it blind buy worthy? If you go in expecting a classy luxurious smelling scent. I mean this is 20$ so not an overpriced niche scent. Whatever you do DON'T get gucci pour homme or bentley for men absolute. It's a totally different fragrance, the similarities are subtle to either one of those so if you're after a cheaper alternative to either of those this isn't for you.

Guitar 2016

It's a nice scent, Elegant , Woody and Spicy . It opens up with like citrusy and fresh spicy then dry down is musky woody. This is suitable for the spring, fall and winter. I like Dirty English EDT for Men by Juicy Couture. This review is based on the new reformulation and Longevity is average.

I'm on my third bottle and this is one of the first scents I purchased in early 2014. This used to be bold and projecting good for at least 3 to 4 hours. It settles down to a superb skin scent for around 8 hours. If you spray it in your shirt, it will be lingering for two days. This is not the case now. If you get from discounters (looks like this has been discontinued) you get 25% of what it used to be. The whole story is over in 2 hours. If you have the old gem, easily one of the most complex and artistic perfume. The new one is like a cologne version of the former.

GialinosKosmos

God, what can I say about this one. In short, not a huge fan, thankfully it was only like $25.00.. It's definitely a really DIRTY, chemically, boozy (not in a particularly good way), cigarette smoke kinda thing... Just think of a dusty, smokey, shabby, gross, dingy biker bar, which I guess they were trying to go for with this one?? Lol.. Can't wear it. It smells like I simultaneously poured a full cigarette ashtray and whiskey on myself haha

chopshop

The oud that sent me tumbling down the oud rabbit hole. After several years I look back on this as the most perfect scent to get me to explore oudville. Had I smelled a horse dung arabian oud oil first, it would have ruined me for ever. This is a great fragrance in its own right. I have had several bottles. DE and I still have some business to take care of f into the future.

Gsidedgdb

Can't really make out all the notes. The oud is a dirty rough oud. So much more could have been done here. The female scents from this house are so well rounded and beautiful. This, not so much. Smells kind of like old dusty nicotine stained books.

Bloomistry

A fragrance with great but unrealized potential. Opens with a brief citrus note that yields quickly to musk, wood, and leather, with a supporting peppery note from the cardamom. Beneath that an herbal accord of marjoram and cypress. From there it's a linear journey, sitting close to the skin. The musks and woods are prominent. I'd describe the scent as an old piano (the ebony note) dusted with dry aromatic herbs. There's an old school vibe to this that recalls funky animalic scents from the 80s, and if you like that sort of fragrance you will appreciate this. This is not a sweet or fresh woody scent, it's bitter and sharp, an old molding wood like a railroad tie that's been years in the rain and sun. This could be considered an oud fragrance, in the sense that oud is the dominant note, and without the fruit or rose or saffron and incense notes that are typical of the genre. The unrealized potential is in the performance. The current formulation of Dirty English lacks in longevity and projection, and if it were a better performer it would be a favourite of mine. On the other hand, this is not a crowd pleaser. Too loud and this could be a difficult wear, because it is a challenging scent, not for everyone. Definitely masculine, and definitely not in the mainstream. Too bad it's so bold in concept yet weak in execution.

SirCharles

Pleasantly surprising blind buy. Overall, it's a masculine, woody/spicy/leathery scent. Not bold or dominating as something like JV Dark Rebel or Zadig & Voltaire This is Him, more like D&G The One, with a darker edge. Dirty English is soft spoken, smooth, and wears very lightly, while still being profoundly masculine. For a signature or romantic scent, at ~30$ for 100ml (from online discounters) it's a steal.

clintjr82

Very woody masculine scent. This stuff is addictive for a designer scent. If there was an EDP version, this would be on the all time best smelling masculine scents for men, I still would buy this for the scent.

Great99

What a surprise this is. Got this today off the Shoppers 19.99 bargain shelf for 100ml size, I suspect it to be the current formulation, plastic cap and all. Opens as a hot mess of chemicals, just pure chaos, then settles into a bizarre resinous cola, I found this lasted for awhile with the “Oud” kicking in late. The Oud even has a touch of the animalic side, but is soft and not of concern for being offensive since this stays on skin with minimal projection. The final phase is leather with cypress and a soft sandalwood. What makes this one sad is that it has real potential, I dare say a niche type development in its dry down, BUT it does not last very long and fails to project, which for such bold notes, it really should leap off the wearer. I can see the John Varvatos Rebel comparisons, but they are far better. I can even see the Bentley comparison for the leather note you get here, but this only has bits of the pre-mentioned formulas and fails to work any magic. A real pity, for 20 bucks I accept it into my collection and will owe it a thanks for feeling the need to review it for the masses. It is certainly not bad, but because of the performance I can’t recommend...Maybe ISO-E Super could give this the spark required?

DaedalusX

This cologne has always been a sore spot of contention for me. This was the first cologne that I purchased from a cologne discounter (FragranceNet) and got mad at for selling me a fake bottle. Reading the reviews here on Fragrantica encouraged me to blind buy the bottle. What I got from the discounter smelled nothing of the pyramid or the reviews. The cap was suspicious and so was the bottle. The scent disappeared within 10 minutes upon spraying. FragranceNet gave me the typical we don’t sell fakes reply, yada yada..

Anyway, fast forward to today and I found a bottle at my local pharmacy for 20$ bucks. Out of spite I decided to give the bottle a second go, and I’m happy to say I’m glad I did. My suspicions were indeed correct as the bottle I recently purchased smelled nothing of the one I got through FragranceNet, I mean absolutely nothing. This stuff is a true 3 stage transformer. The opening citruses come across like a lavender, it quickly fades and then kicks in the leather and Birch. The birch smell is unmistakable and comes across as a smoked wood, it’s very reminiscent of Glenn Perri Unpredictable Adventure a
(Creed Adventus) clone. This isn’t a creed clone in any way, but does share that smokiness birch note. Then you do pick up the Oud, but it’s drowned out by the birch. Near the very end of this stuff it then bounces back to the opening and you can pick up the orange and soft vetiver. Again, completely different than my fake bottle from the online discounter.

The only negative I can see with this stuff is that people seem to think it underperforms in regards to longevity. For me though, I easily get around 7-8 hours, but you need to be aggressive with the sprays. 12 to 13 sprays give me 7 or so hours which is more than enough for me. For me this is the ultimate redemption bottle I’ve ever owned and I’m happy to have this stuff in my collection.
Solid 8/10

A sexy, classy, inexpensive fragrance. Major complaints from the gents is the strength/longevity. A trick the ladies use to improve both is to first layer against your skin an unscented oil or heavy moisturizer, I use an organic coconut oil that is sold as an edible. Then layer the fragrance over the oil. The oil acts as a barrier and doesn't allow the fragrance to evaporate quickly into the skin. The combination of oil and fragrance creates staying power. Honestly, a fragrance such as this is much nicer when it develops closer to the skin with less obvious projection. Don't ignore the cuddle up and get cozy warmth of woodsy, oud, leather that DE offers at a reasonable price.

Jason1980

I really love this perfume. Unfortunately, the performance was suck. Just last for 2 hours.

JimmyMisfit

I like this a lot, and I'm starting to learn how much I like oud fragrances. I received samples of this and Ajmal Aristocrat from FragranceX. Now I'm having a tough time deciding which to buy. Aristocrat is sweeter, fruitier, more floral, and cleaner (which I like) but it's also a little "louder". (Both are actually fairly strong and have good longevity.) On the other hand, I think Dirty English is better blended - no "jagged edges" or astringent chemical phases. Aristocrat is a little less musky, but I think the people around me would prefer something smoother and a tiny bit less powerful. Tough choice, and I may have to get both. :)

Fragstino

I feel you're either going to love or hate this. For me, personally, it smelled like what I imagine John Hancock and his homies that wore powdered wigs smelled like while signing the Declaration of Independence - in a bad way. Do not blind buy this, get a sample first!

Juicy Couture Dirty English Men EDT opens with a moderate projection is citrus, leather, spicy, and woody accords. The opening is light, well balanced, mature, and pleasant. The citrus accords are soft, the mandarin orange noticeable; the cumin and cardamon are also soft, and spicy; the black leather is faint, the note is closer to the blonde than black leather. The oud is also very soft, it feels more like wood and oud. The rest of the notes are very faint and without any significant presence. The fragrance is linear and without any significant opening to dry-down changes, only the projection changes, from moderate to low. Once Juicy Couture Dirty English Men EDT has reached its full dry-down, it can be summarized as a low projection, slightly sweet, faint woody, and leather fragrance with very faint citrus accords. The fragrance feels airy, delicate, diluted, disappointing, elegant, faint, fresh, inexpensive, blond leathery, masculine, mature, short-lived, soft, weak, woody, and pleasant.

The early batches of this were pure magic. It used to be a unique fragrance that really stood out, powerful and animalistic. And with a *very* subtle hint of vinegar, just to make things a bit disturbing (in the good sense). "Dirty English" always gave me the impression that it is a love-or-hate thing, but just impossible to ignore.
Unfortunately, the newer iterations of this have lost both in staying power and depth. The finer notes that made this fragrance addictive are just not there anymore, and the longevity is very poor.
As a rough guide, if you can get a bottle from 2015-16 or earlier then you are in for a treat. These bottles will come with a charm (present in both the 100ml and 50ml editions), which disappeared in later editions.

I sprayed my right arm with Whispers in the Library (WITL) by Maison Margiela & my left arm with Dirty English then asked 4 people if they could tell the difference. They all swore that they were the same scent, the only exception was one who said that maybe the right arm smelled sightly sweeter but liked the left better. They smell very close to the same to me but I have to agree that WITL is a little sweeter. I think that the vanilla in WITL is what hangs on a little longer close to the skin & that's what makes it sweeter. However, Juicy Couture is synonymous with sweet scents & even though this isn't their typical MO its just the right amount of sweet, spicy, leathery & aged scent I prefer. Only difference is that Dirty English is 1/3 the cost of WITL & the longevity of Dirty English last 1-2 hours tops. If you like WITL you may want to try Dirty English, I actually like it better. Its cozy, I wish it was a candle.

fragranticopsy

I have a batch from 2008.
I love the scent but I hate the performance!!!
oud here is unnoticeable. I like the boozy, soft leather and smoky notes which grant a playful aspect.
It reminds me slightly, in some aspects, of dunhill pursuit!!!
If they release it with a decent performance they would have a winner!

Boozy (Claude Dir, 2008)

Scentrack: Thin Lizzy - Whiskey in a Jar

Great bottle design and great whisky-like juice color. Pale citrus notes are gone within milliseconds and a cedar-tobacco-light polished leather combo rules for the whole duration. Oud note in DE is very light and artificial, being just a cameo note. Unfortunately, base notes are not deep, thus I have performance issue on my skin.
All in all, nice and masculine scent, still too light and too gentle. Some kind of simplified and more synthetic Gucci pour Homme or less smoky Carbone de Balmain. Perfect scentrack for drinking whisky in the pub. A hangover before the real hangover.

Ionut82

Good news for all lovers of this perfume. It seems that it has been put back into production. For now you can find it on the manufacturer's website.
The scent is very cool. The smell of leather and oud give it that "dirty" shade, but immediately comes the cedar and sandalwood that sweetens the composition well.
100% masculine, bold, quite elegant, mature, good for the cold periods of the year. For me it is the most pleasant designer perfume based on oud.
His misfortune, as well as that of the M7-YSL, Guci pour homme 1, is that the oud note at that time was not popular at all, on the contrary, it was detested.
I mention the fact that the review is made in the reformulated version, the one with plastic cover.

Kuldeep S

It again has appeared in the market. Can be confirmed by visiting the official website.

tyekristopher

I remember when we launched dirty English , it was a commercial flop . It’s easy to see why , it wasn’t appealing to masses and young men at that time . It was very mature with a leather boozy smell . It’s very a lounge type of fragrance

crownvic808

Smells like saliva off my skin. Not a fan. Test before buying!

marcel2782

Kind of alcoholic and leathery oud. There's an strong woody and leathery base supporting a heart of slightly bitter and tobaccoed citrus orange (oakmoss disguising as tobacco). Unsatisfactory performance with moderate spraying. Very different and authentic aroma.

kmason6

An absolutely delicious scent with leather, cedar & almost a garage/oil slick scent. Even when you spray it- it is not terribly strong and is more of an intimate scent. If someone is close to you they will enjoy it's intoxicating aroma but I was pretty noseblind to it within a half hour unless I pulled my hand close to me to sniff it. Very middling lasting power which is a shame because it is a nice, unique scent.

Ozyman

I liked it.
Annoyed me a bit whenever i sprayed it too much on my neck-
But i still liked it bitter scotchy smell.

Gelindee

Oh YUM!!! I love it! I love the cardamom and leather and cedar notes. A blind buy I was hoping to mix with sweeter perfumes for an occasional edge and darkening, which it does beautifully. Bonus is an increase in longevity of the woody notes when it’s mixed, because as others have noted, on its own this does not last or project. I would wear this straight up if it remained more than 30 minutes as I think it’s pretty unisex. If it were a movie, it would be Almost Famous or 20 Feet from Stardom. It’s such a shame and so very disappointing. Don’t hate me - it smells heavenly on my fluffy little dog after a bath, and it stays in her fur for days. It’s one way to be able to enjoy it for a long time. How sad is that, Juicy Couture!! I know you can do better!

RobbieX

If only this was more potent and lasted longer. It would be up there with the best. Pity

Aftershave

My wifes favourite. I have a lot of frags but this seems to struck that special chord. She thinks I smell like captain Jack Sparrow when I wear it.

Nathan Carpenter

Classic oud and leather combination with a dash of sweetness from cedar. Dirty English is a woody fragrance that I think is best for the fall. In the opening, it’s smooth and woody with a blast of pepper. Minutes later, the pepper fades and is replaced with a sweetness that I can’t place, it seems to me like a resin based sweetness. Another thing that sets this fragrance apart Is I get what I can only describe as dusty. The performance and projection are fairly average. Overall, I think this fragrance takes a common concept in fragrance and adds a unique twist that makes this a great cheapie.

Bindegal

Blindbought this and dislike it badly.. Its so freaking sweet, that its like you spraying Coca-Cola on you and it feels like its so sticky on your skin too..
- Maybe great for youngsters.

Scent: 7/10
Value: 7/10
Longevity: 3/10
Sillage: 3/10
Versatility: 7/10

Juicy Couture's Dirty English is one of those "could have been a classic" scents. The opening is woodsy and manly and leaves me wanting to LOVE this scent. The scent is a great soapy, woody smell. However, the lack of longevity docks some points with me. I have to put 10+ sprays to get any sillage whatsoever.

This bottle was a blind buy based on reviews, and I'm not displeased with the fragrance itself, but I am totally and completely unenamored by the sillage and longevity. The versatility could have been sensational...

My lady is mute on this one. I like this quite a bit for a woody frag so it will be a repeat buy.

clintjr82

Very woody masculine scent. This stuff is addictive for a designer scent. I would buy this.

My5Scents

I do really like it but it certainly doesn’t live up to its name; there’s nothing “dirty” about it, whether that’s supposed to mean unclean, sexy or generally naughty. I was hoping for some kind of edgy, rock n’ roll vibe but it’s actually a very safe, entirely inoffensive yet charming spicy woody fragrance.
It has the briefest opening I’ve ever encountered, the spicy citrus blast of predominantly mandarin is thoroughly enjoyable but it’s almost blink and you’ve missed it! Literally, it’s gone in a couple of minutes. What remains is a very pleasant, peppery woody scent with a projection of about 8 inches max, that’s pretty much disappeared within an hour. I have the newer reformulation with the plain cap, which is very weak - I need at least 10 sprays to feel adequately fragranced, and coupled with that poor projection nobody will ever think I’ve overdone it.
Got a 30ml bottle for just £10, which I happily consider a bargain, but with those performance issues I don’t deem it worth much more.
It’s a shame, because there’s the potential for it to be something special if it were reformulated to address its shortcomings.

blackout05

Soft yo soft, i was warned but just couldn't resist a vintage bottle, any how it will look good in the arsenal.
lasting power- 3/10-little about an hr.
sillage- 3/10 when the wind blow in the first hr people close to me can smell it.
what could have been.

rolandj

Yet another of my perfumes I review today that´s OK but will give away due to bad performance (45min). The performance puts it in my dislike category.

Francop

I have a bottle of the first release batch of this fragrance that came with a leather strap with metallic charms wrapped around the bottle cap.

After the initial spray, the fragrance smells orangey spicy with an added zarzaparrila note which must be the ebony wood note; this olfactory accord is the backbone of the fragrance and persists till the end.

I cannot smell any oud whatsoever here.

The overall feel is light, not too complex and certainly very sinthetic.

Longevity is around 8 hours.

I enjoyed the Aftershave soother better than the fragrance itself.

My 30ml bottle will get used on early morning dog walks after my current Melvita orange cannelle bottle is finished.

Medium Thumbs!

FragChronic

I got a new 100ml bottle for under $20 Can.
I got what I paid for.
LOL
I read below someone uses it on his Truck's leather seats,
I might try that.

A few things about Dirty English, current formula:

1. Ok, no more kitschy trinkets on the cap. Kitschy trinkets have no smell, so why go on about their absence when it's the fragrance that matters? Other than the cap, the bottle for DE is exactly the same as it was a decade ago.

2. DE has an obvious oud note. It's right in the top notes and it smells slightly synthetic, but it's there, and it's well done for an inexpensive designer. Just the fact that a trashy designer brand put an oud note of this caliber in their only masculine fragrance, years before oud was a thing, is amazing.

3. My bottle has the code 5DA1 which dates it to April 2015, which is around the time I bought it. It has never been a powerhouse, but to call it "weak" would be an exaggeration. Given the fact that DE is frontloaded with citrus and oud, backed by a handful of shrill woody musks, along with a relatively simple pink pepper and cedar arrangement, I think people are mistaking olfactory fatigue with weak longevity and projection. The composition is nose numbing by having an aggressive arrangement of similar notes bundled tightly together. After two hours I often think DE has faded, but I know better. By actively searching for at least one or two of its notes, I often find that as long as 6 hours after application, DE is still there. I usually get about 7 or 8 hours out of DE, and projection is reasonable.

Has this scent been through another, yet weaker, reformulation? Maybe since 2015 it has. I don't know. All I can say is this is a solid fragrance for the money, and even if it cost twice or three times as much, I'd say it's a good buy for woody cologne lovers. It's not going to win any awards for ingredient quality, and probably won't score well with anyone under 30 nowadays, but it's a pretty unique scent, and frankly I wouldn't change anything about it. And I still think it's a postmodern Middle Eastern update to MEM Co. English Leather. And I prefer it to English Leather by a wide margin.

firasmalanzy

Good smell, geniric, the most weakest performance cologne i ever tried, it would be a good one if the performance were good.

hadisalimsugianto

This is one of the weakest woody scents that I ever use.
It starts from a boozy effect, 10 minutes after applying this fragrance being darker and darker and it's gone in an hour!

Even the skin scent effect become my own skin scent... Holy shit this scent can be used by anyone!

Update of wearing for the second time:
03/02/2019 it seems evolved on my skin it now exists a lot more longer than before... So it kinda has grown on me from hate list to common list, I do not hate it now but I don't like it too. Still the most regrettable purchase in my life.

SniffingSwede

First off let me say, such a cool bottle, really heavy metal cool vibe.

It does have a rough vibe to it that i like but it does not perform long enough. I did LOVE the beginning though.

It starts off real spicy and burnt wood with leather and was quite interesting. Plays with wood, leather, spices and i get the feel this is what a rough biker should smell like LOL i liked it alot and felt like going to a metalconsert.

About 60 min in thereafter it slowly dies off and left is a vague smell of mainly oud and leather. It is not more than a skinscent, a good one but not really my cup of tea.

Not a great performance and had the initial smell stayed on longer i might give this more chance but sadly i am left wanting more than just Oud and Leather and burnt wood. I want the spices to stick around for the party.

I wanted a bit more and still i must say the opening is wonderful. My nose is perhaps to fragile for the endgame of this, i don't know. I did get what i wanted a roughguy fragrance that rocked my night.

I bet this would be loved be alot of people liking spicy, leathery and woody fragrances.

Not a bad try. At least i felt like a bad boy for a bit but in the end, not really my go to type of fragrence. It was fun to try this.

This is a LIKE for me. Like+ for making me feel cool.

frankincense&myrrh

'Dirty English', though much more innocently delicious than "dirty" in my estimation, has sat, still mostly unused in his satisfyingly heavy & talisman festooned bottle - looking ready for adventure & urban decay - flirtation, booze, & a late night jukebox rendezvous… for 7 years at the back of my humble collection as, however warm & pleasant on my skin he may be, he does indeed suffer from performance issues of the wholly underwhelming variety. I can therefore only concur with the many positive yet frustrated reviews below.
Tasty masculine, lithe & tawny, yet tragically meek & mild.
So much potential that simply evaporates into skin scent post-haste. And thus has always been the case - from first I blind bought DE and after a few futile outdoors outings consigned him to pillow time. He's nice enough to cuddle up with when the weather dictates more than just sheets but if you fail to fall asleep yourself soon enough you'll forget that he's there. I went through several bottles of the body wash which, admittedly, did help to prolong & project DE's presence when deployed in tandem but it feels like a lot of effort (not to mention volume) for something no longer readily available.
A crying shame. 'Dirty English' is all promising sunset dusky burnished gold & wild honey dream rays that vanish into soft grey shadows & vacant moonlight as you wait for a train home, cold & annoyingly sober, in the pre-dawn dark.
But, despite the disappointment at his impotency, DE will remain on the back shelf - like a reminder of a forgotten, faded fantasy… the bittersweet, wandering delight of what could have been.
★★☆☆☆
On another note, I can somewhat, distantly, get the occasional comparisons to GUCCI Pour Homme - to a certain extent - (though CdG2Man is really the closest, though itself quite weaker) but, whereas GPH was declared to be smelling "like sex" on me, hours after application, by a beautiful woman on a dance floor one evening and something in a similar vein by others of both genders over the few years I wore it back in the day, Dirty English never once elicited a reaction from anyone around me ever, positive or negative, and I can only deduce it's because they couldn't smell it anymore more than I hardly could.
A dirty pity.

RobbieX

C'mon Juicy - bring out a more powerful version of this gorgeous fragrance!

chinook

Dirty English opens up with leather and spice with a hint of sweetness. It mellows down to a typical masculine scent with a sense of playfulness lingering in the background. Overall it’s enjoyable, but feels a little flat to me.

richmilton

I agree with the reviewer below me citywolfie. This is extremely weak juice. The smell is pretty good, nice leather, wood and hints of tobacco. Very masculine. However, it becomes a skin scent way too quickly, like within 15-30 minutes. Spraying clothes does add a little more longevity but still zero sillage. I thought maybe it's my nose having issues detecting the notes. So I did a little test. I applied 12 sprays all over my chest and shoulders (under shirt), then waited 15 minutes and walked into the living room and sat down next to the wife waiting for her to comment. But she said nothing. So I asked her, if I applied too much cologne. Her reply, "You have cologne on?" Well, that proved to me this Dirty English is weak sauce.

Despite my poor experience some people here seem to get decent performance from DE. So maybe I got a bad batch or perhaps a reformulation? I read somewhere that weak/bad batch runs do happen sometimes that sneak by quality control at fragrances houses, particular mass produced designers. I'm convinced that's the case with my DE bottle.

Citywolfie

The name Dirty English is apt cuz this dirty english conned me!
Loved the opening. I detected a wonderful combination of masculine oud, leather and refreshing mandarin which got me excited and had me imagining I'd perhaps wear it this spring but within 5 minutes on my skin, I kid you not, the fragrance wasn't detectable in the air at all.
Even while closely sniffing my skin, there's barely a trace.
Never have I had such a weak performer (even for an EDT). Gone! Poof! I want my money back!!
Why didn't JC make an EDP version of this?

Úrbez larres.lardies

Do not pay much attention to the bad reviews of this perfume.
It is true that DE is linear and its components are not of high quality, but for its price it is quite good.
It is a lasting smell with moderate chair and that lasts a long time in clothes.
A woody, orange, boozy smell with a hint of leather.
A warm, masculine and comfortable smell of medium quality, linear and at a low price.

If this was more powerful, or they produced a "proper" intense version, it would be genuinely gorgeous.

Roman86

There's really not much to this fragrance. I never understood the praise it received. It's very light and does not have a lot of projection. The scent is nothing to write home about either. It's a tad sweet and woody and it feels like the volume is turned way down like you can barely sense it.

sethr

Did Diesel make something with the same name a while back?

mateuszolech072

I like that this is in family of Gucci pour homme, my beloved lost fragrance, beautiful golden-brown juice.

RobbieX

Not very potent, however, this is a warm, boozy and spicy juice that is really lovely. The dark amber juice comes in a nice heavy bottle. I like Dirty English a lot!

scentitar

Dirty English is pass and fail for me.

I get dry amber as the majority of the fragrance. You get a sense of old black pepper, some dry old orange blended in.

It is rather boring and slightly unpleasant . Longevity was 4 or 5 hours with fair projection.

Simple, boring, and dirty. I can see the edgy bad boy vibe they were maybe going for, but it does not work on paper or my skin. The quality is simply lacking, with this possibly daring composition.

A pass and I will not suggest you test or stay away from this, but I will say that this is not blind buy worthy.

ledlight

I did comment before over this one,but the one i had was just a little plastic sprayer 2ml tester,i got myself bottle of 100ml for $15 and was a last one on fragrance super sale,,,This one is more for the real gentlemen who is about to make business with a big company.I like this scent, more for cold weather..I will use this one for upcoming winter in my country or cool nights.

This is definitely an uncommon reformulation, as it is not very similar to the original at all. I used to have the first formulation with the charm thing on the bottle and it was oudy with cypress and some leather, and it was nice and brash, but this re-do does have similarities with Montale Greyland, however decidedly flatter. I saw the smell alikes section here and was absolutely confused by that reference as the original was nothing like Greyland, but just got a reform bottle and it is surprisingly close, but also laking performance or depth of the Montale.

Admittedly, not exactly thrilled as I was looking for the original and I already have Greyland which is superior to this anyway.

preferOrientals

I’m a woman. I’ll be wearing it. On me it smells spicy, sexy. On a man it would be off the charts good. Unisex. Probably too sexy for office.

CMTHUNDERS

there's something in here that reminds me of boss bottled night. Its boss bottled night with some leather in it! VERY NICE!! i love it

the_keen_edge

I have it, but I'm not crazy about it. Some day's it's tolerable, but most of the time it comes across very pearcing, dirty, bitter, and sour to my nose.

soundessence

My olfactory function isn't as strong as much as yours. I have some sort of "blindness" for smells, as I can't describe the individual components of a perfume, but I can give an image of what it evokes.

Dirty English is a casual Thursday night at the pub with old time friends. You want to smell different than Joe, who once made out with a girl you liked, but you needn't impress him because your job is better than his 15 years later. You're okay with having that extra half-pint, after all you need it in your mediocrity.

I sampled this EdT from a 1mL tester and then bought the full bottle.

What convinced me to buy the full bottle was:

- Cheap price
- Discontinuation
- Oud notes in the vial
- I was drunk with red wine and thought: "This smells sooooo good"

When I received the full bottle, I tried it out and noticed something different.

Since I was left with some eau from the vial, I sampled it side-by-side with the bottle.

The oud notes aren't as strong in the full bottle. Instead, I get a cleaner, soapy whiff. The vial smelled rounder, boozier, darker and somewhat smokier.

Both were short lasting. I believe half an hour on clean skin (showered 1 hr earlier)

As I said, I'm "blind" to individual notes, but I suppose, after having read a bit, the cleaner notes are due to sandalwood. The vial batch must have had a more prominent oud (and leather, I think).

Both samples had little projection.

Overall, I don't despise Dirty English. I mean, buyer's remorse and everything.
Will I wear it? Sure.
How often? Once, maybe twice a month.
Do I recommend it? Not as a blind buy. If you find a full bottle, sample it first. If the oud notes are strong enough, then go ahead and buy it.

carlosalbertoandradecruz

Fantastice fragrance.
Above average performance and a divine leather oud experience, a bit dark just the way I like it.
Clearly in my top 10.
I layered with a vanilla scent and it is awsome as well.
A clear suggestion for Juicy Couture to make a Dirty Oud Leather Vanilla Englishman.

Let's see the maths for Dirty Englishman:

- Scent: 9.00 (very very good - my judgement)
- Longevity: 8.0 (7 hours + with 3 sprays)
- Sillage: 7.50 (more than 4 feet for 3 hours with 3 sprays; projects noticeably for 2 hours); practical skin scent till the 8th or 9th hour.
- Uniqueness: 8.5 (not really unique but very well blended and similar to various niche perfumes, not to cheapies)
- Wearability: 8.0 (high for an oud fragrance)
- Versatility: 8.0 (high for an oud fragrance. just avoid hot weather).
- Quality: 8.5 (my judgement)
- Presentation: 8.5 (not discrete but nice)
- Price: 10.0 (100 ml tester for 18 Euros and free shipping in superesencia.com)

Average: 8.45 / 10.00

In my top 20? Yes
Will I buy it again? Yes for sure.
Is there a similar Oud fragrance I like as much as this one? Yes, Bogart's Oud edition.
Will I recommend it? a big YES due to the scent, and price.

thief of hearts

I applied this afer showering with Memoir Man body shampoo. Awesome results! Rich and sweet smokiness! The regular DE shower gel in the pouch is also an awesome way to begin or end your day.

talkaboutscents

I have no idea which bottle (formulation) this tester belongs to, but who cares, I am going to get a bottle for sure. This is so pleasing, from opening to drydown, this is good! It may sound weird but JC Dirty English reminds me of Gucci PH layered with just tiny bit of Azzaro Visit and finished by a touch of leathery scent.

There is absolutely nothing "dirty". I get wood dominant scent rounded by leather, the wood I get is not your regular harsh Oud, but more like Cedar and Sandalwood and it's musky (a bit tobacco there too?). The scent is a bit synthetic, but then again who cares. This stuff smells very good compared to its price! Gives a bad boy vibe all over.

TonyAKAMrClean

The more scents I've smelled from various houses, levels of artistry, and price ranges, the more I really appreciate this $16 scent. Nice leather and woods play up the oud in a very pleasant way. This is such an awesome scent!

Natan123

Smells like a less baryard version of Zafar

crYEEd

It's an oud scent, and it doesn't work well on me.

Hastey

It’s an interesting scent. Two players here...woods and citrus. A mixture of woods makes it a little difficult to pinpoint any one dominant player for me. For my nose the citrus doesn’t play well with the woods, it’s not offensive to me, just not my thing. The name is appropriate because it does come off as being a dirty citrus. It does have that old school vibe to it, very masculine. I can see it be a favourite for some.

Robinfv

Well, this is a nice surprise. Warm beautiful scent for colder days. Performance is mediocre, sillage non existing, but still beautiful, warm and sophisticated. Great bottle. A keeper for sure, office safe, you can blind buy this one (and for a reasonable price these days). Highly recommended.

assim.hayderi

This is pure pleasure. Masculine, dirty and sexy. The price is superb. what else would I want? Perhaps a bit better projection.

adamthompson06

Great bang for your buck fragrance! A nice entry level oud/leather fragrance that most people will appreciate. I have a bottle from 2009 and the performance is solid, I get around 8-10 hours of longevity out of it. Just remember a little goes a long way with this juice so don't do any more than a few sprays because this stuff is pretty potent.

ankgy

Like as old man when i wear this fragrance, but i love it.very warm and unique...

6opar

I like the top notes - The citrus is not bright or fresh, but muted and so much spiced up that it's almost not-there, giving the whole composition an interesting faded effect. It's like a new photograph taken in black and white.
The black and white imagery continues with a cheap smelling incense woody note with just enough sweetness to escape despair and doom.
I like it, but will rarely use it. There are better fragrances in my collection who play this game much better. Cute bottle.

Claude Dir is a very competent nose, and is behind some very successful perfumes in terms of sales or exquisite fragrances for niche perfumers.
With Dirty English he did a very good job as well.

The opening is a woody affair. For all it's listed notes, we get a dusty peppered mandarin, blue cypress, calabrian bergamot, cumin and cardamom.

As we reach the middle, a woodsy leather note is revealed. The heart brings marjoram and black leather accords accompanied with sandalwood, Atlas cedar and vétiver root which create a continuous bold scent bonding in perfection the top and base notes.

A woodsy combo ends the accord. It's a peculiar type of woodiness. You have the harshness of ebony and black moss emphasized with oud and musk. The combination is a real head turner.

This fragrance is devoted to irresistibly charm the air around men between 30 and 60 years old (I am 57) using jeans, leather jackets, cotton shirts and stylish moccasins. A younger Al Pacino and an actual George Cloney would wear this perfume.

Only the juicy feminine family to which DE belongs leaves this sexy men fragrance a bit forgotten between so many sisters.

GREAT FRAGRANCE !!!!

BOBBEAR

Firstly...I love the fragrance blending..its super sexy...deep and warm and not cloying....however i wish it had longevity. I "ordered" what was shown as an original formulation w/the "charms" and leather lacing on the bottle..what i got was a new formulation..how disappointing..however i do like it..just have to re apply.........if anyone knows a very sim frag to this..id love to know...id even wear this in the summer cause its so interesting. I could make this or a similar scent as a signature.

ramone black soul

Good fragrance...very masculine n' very gentlemen...smell like rock n roll stars...

LydiaLiu

This is a clean bright perfume for man (why dirty?), woody spicy but it's not the heavy type. I definitely love it if my boyfriend wears it when together with me.

sir reeksalot

so this is dirty english? smells very similar to al rahab woody with the cedar and oud.this is better than woody because it has the cypress and a touch of vetiver.it is a wonderful cologne. i would have easily chose this over woody if i had smelled them side by side.very nice indeed.
1 hr. later:ouch! the leather is one of the lovliest i have smelled but the musk is definitely pushing it to the "just cured"leather type.the vetiver and the cedar are doing a hell of a job keeping this all together.other scents i havent yet learned to identify are also keeping this cologne grounded.man this is not bad for 20 bucks.really really pretty.reminds me of when i used to cure rattle snake hides and they stunk for the first two days.

Jose Marcos

@Shotsk is absolutely right, I always ask people to make the t-shirt test, I can still smell what a wore a week ago when putting clothes in the washing machine ... and that a long time for the "no longevity" scents some shout about at the top of their lungs ... Sick of it, really ...

weegee

A night-shift Amazon co-worker recently complimented me on my fragrance (that happened to be a caramel gourmand) and I offered to make a decant for her. She thanked me but said she wasn't interested for herself but for her fiancée. "I like her to smell girly but not so much for me." Thinking of a recent forum topic I said I thought I understood her conundrum, "You don't want to smell girly-girly but you don't want to smell like your father's after shave, right?" "YES!", she said, smiling, as if she was surprised that an older co-worker actually understood. So I made her a decant of Dirty English and brought it to work the next night.

"PERFECT", said Heather. "I really like it and so does Haley! Thanks so much!" Thus reinforcing my belief that Dirty English is most definitely a unisex fragrance. Mostly leather with lots of spice, I think it's appropriate on men year round and best on female skin in cold weather.

AjaBlue

As many have already state, not "outstanding" but really nice leather and oud combo scent. I love men's fragrances and I purchased a mini of this, which will be the perfect size for my collection. Longevity is not so great, but it is nice to spray on quickly before heading out the door when I'm in the mood for it. Longevity increases when I layer it over Nabeel's Macho Man, which is an extraordinary leather scent.

sulkyfellow

My to-go fragrance for rainy weather and a leather jacket. Really like the leather and oud notes, it's a well blended juice. I've always got the reformulation, never paid more than £20. Definitely not something I'd wear to work, but great for going out. Not an amazing fragrance, but I find it great value for money and a bit different. Shame it doesn't project much, however the longevity is decent.

Uni-Scent

(Original Formulation)

An impressive masculine fragrance from Juicy Couture. Cool, bad-ass bottle too! This starts off on my skin with a mandarin/citrus smell. Then five minutes later, I detect the woods, spices, and a some boozy notes. When it gets close to the fragrance drying down, it turns into a musky aroma. I highly recommend the first formulation of this fragrance (bottle with the metal cap and tags) as the ingredients are well blended, and the performance is five times better. It also reminds me a little bit of Gucci Pour Homme 1 in some parts of the scent.

Scent: 9 / 10

Eyviab

I don't know if it's the new formulation of this but it's not bad at all! I get the oud vibe the leather and the spice I quite like it reminds me of 24 gold oud! So yummy 1 spray to the chest and done! No need to over spray!

Fwee!

This is basically a 1970s musk bomb repackaged for a new era. If you were born before 1975 or so, this scent will take you back! Of if you're younger and you're looking for a bit of that vintage, hairy-chested machismo, you've found it! For everyone else, I suggest you stay away.

Ralphangel

Absolutely love this perfume!!!! And given the price what's not to love. If you like woody, aromatic, and oud scented fragrances this one is for you! Manly but yet sensual.

TonyAKAMrClean

What makes it dirty is the clash...

You know, when you mix two scents that just don't quite meld together? That kind of clash. In a good way. Citrus and cedar on one side, oud, moss, and leather on the other. Usually scent clashing is a bad thing, but in this case, it's dirty, yet clean. I get what they were going for, and I think the name is fitting. The citrus and other woods keep this from being too dirty and dusty of an oud, which I really appreciate. There are some ouds out there that I just can't take, but this smells like a humid attic - in a VERY good way!

Paired with a nice fitting pair of jeans, a leather jacket, and a little bit of confidence, this scent really works. This also works well as a daytime scent after wearing a stronger oud scent the night before.

Update: After trying a bottle of the older stuff, I actually find the newer formula to be slightly stronger than the older formula. Also, I'm allergic to the old natural oak moss, so the new formula is perfectly fitting for me. I did keep the metal cap and charms from the old bottle, though. The metal cap is much nicer!

For the record, the Cypress and Cedar were stronger in the old version, along with the Oakmoss. If you're buying this (newer version), expect the Cypress and Cedar to be lower on the totem pole of ingredients, and the Mandarin, Ebony, and Musk to be a bit higher. In my opinion though, the newer version lasts longer than the older version, however it is lighter smelling.

weegee

Well, well, well. I ordered a back-up bottle of the original formulation (metal cap, leather strap, metal charms) with a photo of same and instead received a new bottle with plastic cap, no leather strap and no metal charms. Darn it all. I'll be returning it to the fleabay seller at his expense. But in the meantime I did sample spray from the bottle and I'm not altogether displeased. It's not what I wanted and it's definitely a different fragrance (less leather, less spice, much less sillage & longevity) BUT... if you haven't experienced & fallen in love with the divine original... it's not bad. Consider it similar to the difference among fresh peas, frozen peas and canned peas. Each is different but none is unpleasant.

The new formulation is lighter and has less of the gorgeous dark leather of the original but it has a FLORAL aspect that simply does not exist in the original. In fact, I rather like it and I'd keep the bottle if I wasn't searching for a back-up of the original.

The new formulation just might be perfect for the wo(man) who didn't care for the image the original evoked of the Harley Davidson owner/rider who'd been on a multi-day hot weather road trip and hadn't showered for a couple of days. This new version suggests that the motorcyclist did, in fact, stop for a shower and even used a little powder before getting dressed in clean clothes.

Not like the original but not bad at all.

mf.1

Ridiculous longevity and sillage, although the bottle suggests something hefty.
Straightforward leather to my nose, and only if it is close enough.
Maybe a new formulation, definitely a new bottle with plastic cap and I am afraid both was done to save money rather than improving the scent.
2/10
Strongly reminds me of Ferrari Uomo, which I own and which is much more potent.
In my opinion this is not a matter of taste but rather a matter of waste, are you willing to waste your money on a scent that has been diluted to the max?!

ginawadsworth

Good grief, this packs a punch all right.

Found at the fragrance fair and was looking for something for my husband. I immediately did the rounds, sniffing anything that caught my eye and then gravitated to Aramis which was on sale for a good price. Two bottles up was this mysterious dark liquid. Ah ha, I thought, something which will be strong dark and handsome. So I sidled up for a sniff, like some flirtacious trollop out for a good time.

Lordy this is magnificent.

I left the gentleman behind to go home with the Dirty English boy instead. so rich, and manly. Definitely needs a light hand when spraying, but like anything bad, oh so good.

(My husband likes it, and I want to steal it from him!!!!)

UnearthlyApothecary

I am a woman just beginning to experiment with men's fragrances. I don't like girly or heavily floral scents, preferring woods and patch, smoke and leather. I think this smells very intoxicating on me. This scent is supposed to smell like a " bad boy" well there is something very sexy about a good girl who smells like a bad boy. I bet many men would agree. This is a fabulous scent for anyone regardless of gender or weather or any other silly convention. A new favorite for me.

NouveauDruid

This must be one of the most heavily reviewed fragrances I've seen on Fragrantica yet, so, it's not necessary for me to add my two scents (see what I did there?) but I will anyway because....

...Dirty English is one of only about ten men's fragrances I will wear and one of only three I currently own. I still refuse to throw away my Gucci Rush for men bottle, empty as it is.

Dirty English really works for me and I think it's because wood-based scents work for me and with this one in particular, the blend of cypress, sandalwood, cardamom, leather, orange, and cedar, I'm in love!

Ladies, I highly recommend it for those of you who want a stronger, slightly spicy wood scent for any time of year. It might make you miss Shiseido's Feminite du Bois a bit less, too.

Brain-in-a-vat

2016 June - Beware UK aficionados who discover this in TKMaxx at 30£ for 100ml.

On opening - it's the crappo reformulation with a cruddy plastic cap - not that nice jangly one. Also darker liquid

Not so cheap either. Probably better to get on ebay...

Smells like a weaker version of Jazz Club. This was an instant skin scent and was totally gone within 2 hours. If this ever was good, it is not good any longer.

This was my "go to" scent for a while. LOVED IT. Classic yet approachable. The logo looks like D'Orsay's.

lucas3309

The new formula with the plastic cap is absolutely trash!

Chicago Tony T

This never was a beast IMO. I had it when it first came out and I just sold my previous bottle. Sillage is soft and it lasts about 3-5 hours. It's mainly a light cedar and leather scent. The oud is not really noticeable as I believe the ebony wood gives it a darker feel. The same as in Nuit D'Issey. This could have been a special release but as it stands it average.

Rogers

I had a bottle in 2008 was a great scent with good performance. Just bought another one Dec 2015 and it was a total waste of money! Weak with poor performance. I now know that I have a re formulated bottle

christianne1

GET THE PRE-REFORMULATION with the metal cap and the charms with the leather tie. There is a MAJOR difference! The original is much deeper and denser and has a very oily texture where the new cheap one with the plastic cap is all alcohol and the scent is very thin and well, cheap smelling. The original one is a very rugged, manly, super sexy smell! I can see this would not be for everyone because it is dirty and skanky and way masculine. But there is something about it that I find very appealing. But it would have to suit the personality of the man wearing it for it to work. This is not for the proper gentleman. It is called Dirty English after all.

NiceNiffs

Wanted to try this for a long time and probably should have done...a long time ago...because all the recent reviews suggest a reformulation is upon us and not a particularly great one at that.

Anyway I took the plunge and bought a 15ml sample bottle this week. First impressions?......dark, rugged, manly but with something really off-putting in the early dry-down that ruins it (for me)...a great big dollop of a synthetic lipstick-like aroma (plastic-metal-lanolin). There is a very manly, weathered, leather jacket scent lurking underneath which is quite unique and if it wasn't for the 'lipstick on the collar' (and if it also had a bit more power and longevity) this would be a top 10 scent for me. Wish, wish, wish I'd bought the original 2008/2009 formulation.........ah well.

an.jorePipip

Dirty English really got women aroused, my girl friends keep hugging me when I wear this perfume. Guys, you should try this!

bodybuilder87

this is usually the colonge I wear when riding my motorcycle. It has a spicy manly scent that isnt one of my favorites but doesnt smell feminine in the biker crowd. My wife hates this scent even though she likes my other spicier scents like prada rossa or bvlgari black. overall its not a special or unique scent but I still ue it every once in a while

Joec00l

I have the newer formulation, the one with the godawful plastic cab.

This is simple. So simple, in fact, I can vividly remember each moment of its wear even days later. Not that I think about Dirty English all that often. It's just too simple, too easy. Dirty English is belligerent and messy. I get bergamot, and then some synthetic smelling leather that reminds me of something from, perhaps, Avon that I smelled as a child. That's basically the jist of it. These 2 notes just get softer as the day goes on. But they never really fit together in thoughtful way. As if some random person mixed this together in their basement. doesn't smell bad, just too amateur to be worth more than dirt cheap prices it can be found for online.

nefabit

I found this on sale and ordered a sample as a present.
This is the most heavenly, seductive, dangerous scent I've ever come across.
The sillage and longevity are amazing. If I put a drop on a hankie, it won't fade for days.
It opens as super spicy, with a bit of a brandy quality. Then the leather and woody notes unfold and wrap you in a warm embrace. Finally, it becomes sweeter, and slowly fades over a couple of days. It is very strong, but it's not overpowering.
Simply amazing. This is what all men should smell like.

PaulydaEagle12

I have officially dubbed this my leather jacket frag, just smells and looks like it belongs with a leather jacket. Its in bargain bins everywhere which is a shame seeing as its so unique and earthy. Plus it compliments the smell of a leather jacket so well.

My only gripe with this fragrance is that it doesn't really project past the first 45 minutes to an hour. Smells great it just doesn't get out past your skin.

Will use this with my leather jacket till it runs out and I get a bottle of Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather :)

AZ

I recently bought my 2nd bottle of Dirty English after long time have not used it. It was cheap so why not add to my collection. The perfume is pretty strong starts with spicy woody scent. The longevity is pretty good on my skin as I have sprayed at late night and still smell it in the morning. I wonder why everybody think it has poor longevity?

Some time ago I was very intrigued by this fragrance.
A polarizing apparently love or hate and decrita by many as weak and very masculine fragrance .
I finally got in his new EA version and I have to say I feel very good fragrance. Smelling amber , leather , woody, with a touch sweet tangerine and alcohol .
It is a masculine and modern scent. Its sillage is normal and above-average duration.
My wife loves it and me too.
In my opinion is nothing more nor less durable than synthetic fragrances that I have much more expensive as Wonderwood or 2 MAN CDG .
My rating : 8/10

I'm kind of furious right now. I get the whole blind buy is a risk, I don't care about loosing $20, I just care that people have the audacity to put up there that this fragrance reminds them of Gucci pour homme 1. Grrrrrrr... They obviously have NEVER owned gph1!
First this smells like crap. Synthetic mess. I don't know what this is..
Wood? No
Oud? Bahaha
Leather? Omg this is a joke
Aromatic citrus... Yeah it does resemble some kinda of hairspray I've smelt before but that about it. If you have ever heard that phrase smells like cheap cologne or that awkward guy that smells like that cologne guy, this is why. It's bc of frags like this. The heavy glass bottle and look are the only reason I'll have this in my collection. First person who comes over next to check out my collection and likes it, it's theirs. This is gross.
Ok I'm done venting.
This is such crap. Perfumers alcohol and hairspray.
This is the newest formulation with out the charms. Either way the previous formulation is no way in hell will save my opinion about this mess.
Don't blind buy! You will not get a woody fragrance, trust me

I'm inclined to believe Judahsmith on this one. EA's reformulation would have to be pretty faithful to the original version of Dirty English, because what I smell of it matches to the "T" all of the oldest descriptions of this scent. It's good to remember that EA used to be French Fragrances before changing its name, and FF was widely considered a good company. I'll never understand why certain brand names get lambasted in this industry while others get endless praise, but c'est la vie.

Anyway, I have the new version with plastic cap, sans medallion. The bottle is still heavy glass and very well made, quite pretty. The juice is a dark, rich brown, roughly the color of Barry's Gold Blend tea. The smell? There are some on here who are saying they don't get any oud note out of this. I have some synthetic oud isolates courtesy of my friend Jim Gehr from Garner James, and I can tell you that there's definitely a synthetic oud note on top of DE. It doesn't last long, maybe five minutes, but it's definitely there, and it's very well blended. 99% of the supposed oud scents out there, including expensive niche, are using synthetic oud molecules anyway.

The composition is rather like a niche scent, but after a few minutes the oud burns off and is replaced by terpenes; crystalline, resinous notes of pine and cypress appear, with a clear orange note, and the makings of a very staid iso E Super woody amber "buzz" for the drydown, which arrives forty-five minutes later and hangs around for another four hours or so. Longevity is decent, projection is also fair, and the overall effect of the scent is a boozy, ambery wood, "fresh" without smelling cliched, almost like an updated English Leather, although arguably closer to vintage EL by MEM in that regard. I also think the "fresh citrus" aspect, mixed with the dry wood notes, gives DE a fleeting similarity to Bleu de Chanel. Maybe call it "Brun de Chanel" and see how it does?

I really like this one. I'm glad they reissued it. It may not be a masterpiece per say, but it's a very solid composition that smells quite good and very manly in a modern way. Perfect for the office in October and November. Also, a clear hint of quality bergamot under the sweeter orange note means you can rotate this with Mitsouko with no major issues! This gets a lot of hate on basenotes, lots of noses turned up in the air over it, but I don't know what they're talking about. If this was in a fugly gold-flaked bottle with Arabian script all over it (and a $300 price tag), they'd be singing its praises.

SOMEBODY IS A LIAR......

Either that or my nose is dead. Look I happen to enjoy this fragrance. Well its better said that I enjoyed this fragrance when I had it.

Here is the deal, this fragrance is not complex. I know it has a gaggle of notes but its not. The fact that it is so synthetic makes the majority of those notes vanish within moments. What I definitely get is the Leather, Mandarin and Sandalwood. These being 3 of my favorite basic notes makes this quite enjoyable for me, but I have a few problems with it.

They gave it the name "Dirty English" for a reason. They wanted a scent that was to be refined yet edgy, instead they got something that smells like a new car with lunch in the back seat. By that I mean, it smells clean and leathery but I can still smell my gym back "musk" in the back seat. I can understand how for some people that would be a complete turn off. All and all, I would really appreciate this in the form of a room spray for the fall months.

HERES THE LIE, OR POSSIBLY MY ERROR.
There is absolutely not one infantile stitch of OUD anywhere near this fragrance. Its just not there, its non existent to me. Somebody please help me find it. I WONT STAND FOR THS! LOL!

Anyway, I feel like this is an ok fragrance if you can find it for $20 or less, I doubt that you should have any trouble doing so. It wont last and it will not project after about 15 minutes so don't expect it to do so.

Overall Fragrance: 6.0/10
Longevity: 3/10
Silage: 4.0/10

Thanks For Reading,

Unmodernize

The bottle looks like a contradiction, a cheap royalty. I had a sample of a single milliliter but as I was going to smell the nozzle, I dropped it in my basin breaking the vial. So I had to pour it all on me. First thoughts: weaker than expected, brown sugar and nothing that excites even in the top. Now about 1,5 hours in it already is a background scent. Meaning it's weak-ish, especially for being a darker boozier scent. It's sweet bordering cloying but the lack of strength makes it wearable for daytime. Dirty is a good description, but "generic" is a better one because I feel like I already smelled this many times. Good balance. Definitely a pop artist dabbling in heavy metal, not an innovator with the notes. It would suit masculine men with a touch of attitude to them, but it is a safe and, in my opinion, pale scent. I already forgot it.

assim.hayderi

A really masculine scent with a dirty vibe. This one is more for the guys who want to smell a little bit leathery and dirty rather than clean and fresh. Very casual and perfect for the autumn/winter despite its short life on my skin. It doesn't project too much, one should get into your space in order to be able to smell this on you.

durbha75

Just bought a bottle today, so these are initial reactions. The word 'Dirty' does it justice; it smells like rancid leather, but in a good way. It reminds me of raw leather hide, but with a tinge of spice. I also smell something like mulled wine.
The image I associate with it is a tall, slim, good-looking young man with semi-punky gelled hair, ear rings, leather jacket and pants and kohl-lined eyes. Listens to stuff like the Sex Pistols.
Do I like smelling like this? Oh yes. For some reason it struck a chord with me, though I am the antithesis of the image above. Maybe it's my repressed bad boy coming out!

My only complaint is the soft projection and average longevity. Something like this should be more in-your-face.
Worth a shot for sure.

boulouboulou

Oud ? Stop kidding...
This is just a horrible mellow of cheap synthetic raw materials created to make money.
I hope this doesn't sell well, because it's worst than a joke, it's cynical.
Hey perfumistas, WTF do they want us to buy ???

Oudy

I was rooting through the cabinets and found a brand new bottle of this...metal cap and medallion still wrapped in plastic. I thought to myself, well I'll have a look at the notes here and see what I've found. I couldn't believe my luck!...oud!...I love oud. Well, well, what treasure have I just discovered.

Then I sprayed it

An almost insurmountable blast of rubbing/perfumers alcohol greeted my nose....it's really really bad. So I let that dry...then sniffed again. Now I'm very lenient with my reviews generally and give allowances for skin type and opinion....but there is absolutely nothing here at all...is this a joke I wondered. There is a slight smell of boozy tobacco...for about 10 minutes...I'm not kidding, I sprayed myself with about 8 squirts and all the same....nothing. This is the most pathetic scent I have EVER had the misfortune to smell. I'm seriously glad I didn't pay for this. Even a fiver would have been to much. the only thing "juicy" about this will be the sound it makes when I chuck it into the river. Worthless

Scent 3/10...what scent there is....is somewhat tolerable
Projection 0/10...you must be joking
Fortitude 1/10....hangs on like a drift of unscented smoke....

decorides

Just recieved this and the cap is plastic with no leather band around it . Is the product genuine or fake ?

mrluctoretemergo

Dirty English ?

Synthetic English you mean...

Generic synthetic chemical nothingness...

It resembles Gucci I to quite a few ? No gentlemen it tries to but fails miserably/synthetically/...

If you like real scents then avoid this chemical waste.

I blind bought this scent when I was in Saudi Arabia around 5 years ago because one lifestyle magz had an ad of this.
Very good looking bottle and advertisement that made me "love in the first sign"
so I bought it, and tried it
First impression of the smells its..... YUUUCKS so I left it unused for about 1 year and forgot it
But when I inadvertently a year later, and tried it again, I became felt in Love with it. and ever since, I always have it on my wardrobe.
But nowadays it's kindda hard to find it in my Country (Indonesia), because they said it's discontinued. I really hope it's note true

About the scent itself, i don't know what to say, sweety leathered synthetic maybe :D
but when i look at the juice, it reminds me of Chivas.
So bad, its sillage is so weak,
The longevity is ok, around 6-8 hours

Sillage : 4/10
Longevity : 7/10
Smell : 10/10

good perfume to use in your daily activity

bizzybazza

only just tried this and yes very pleasant notes of oud and leather and maybe a little mandarin shining through.
this scent is worth being in my wardrobe but its a like rather than a love.
time will tell :)

oh! before i forget i must say nice one to juicy couture this being their first male fragrance

update after wearing this all today i think liking it isnt enough so its creeping into love

EA Reformulation rumors are NOT true. I was getting to the bottom of my original bottle of DE. And noted at Marshall's a 3.4 oz bottle for $19.99. Purchased it. Tested on both wrists. EXACT same juice. Enough with these Reformulation rumors. A corporate buyout doesn't automatically mean Reformulation with cheaper ingredients. And sometimes a Reformulation while different is better. "Modernized." In any case, it's the same juice. These rumors spread like wild fire through basenotes, etc. because one person says "oh yeah I bought it and it's crap now." People start saying "oh yeah I heard its crap, only find the original discontinued version for the real thing." Totally bogus. I love this fragrance, and being able to get it for $20 is a steal, Hey if you avoid it because you think it's crap now, and "Reformulated"....great! Believe the rumors, because it leaves more for me on the store shelves. Great frag for the money. Wife loves it on me. One of my most complimented fragrances, and I own a lot. it's Colin Farrell, Sean Connery, Daniel Craig all rolled into one suave, bad boy frag. Leather, woods, tobacco, boozy, Amber goodness...enjoy...if you chose not to believe the misinformation.

Very good and humorously said in your review
" sickly-sweet perfumes made for women, but sold to men!"

Full marks from me for just this single line!
Nicely reviewed by you, good job man!

wesleyhclark

After seeing this constantly suggested on this website's men's forum, I decided to pay for a sample to see what all the fuss was about. (It was less than two bucks and made my fragrancenet shipping free, so I consider myself as coming out ahead.)

I still don't know why people recommend this.

A synthetic trash heap, that's what this is. It went on smelling very generic; the top notes are undoubtedly the same-old same-old stuff you constantly smell in the mass market bottles for sale at a Ross. (I'm looking at you, Usher, Giorgio and Michael Jordan.) It then dries down to a nasty, sour smell that reminds me of nothing so much as what my daughter calls "trash juice," the liquid matter that occasionally oozes out of trash cans.

Phew! Nasty.

I'm not afraid of "dirty." After all, I love the castoreum in Antaeus and the civet in my wife's perfumes. But this isn't a well-wrought dirty in any way, shape or form. It's just... trash.

Fortunately Dirty English doesn't last. (Because it's cheap, people!) This is the one time a scrubber didn't last forever on me, and boy, am I glad.

Better yet, it's discontinued.

JEDI 2.0

I enjoy this! Just bought a tiny splash sample at the mall, and immediately applied some.

Just a gentleman's hint of booze, and tobacco, spicy and warm; this is a proper scent to wear, as the name somewhat implies, if you're dirty or about to get dirty. A great fragrance that would blend with rather than attempt to mask your natural odor, if you were to wear this on a hot day (I would).

Many reviews say this is a nice fall/winter scent, and I agree, but it can also be worn in the heat of Summer when you're filthy as a dog. 8/10 for me.

OCNBreeze7

Warm, inviting, and underrated… Dirty English is a nicely done blend of spicy and herbal notes that is ideal for fall and winter. Performance is modest at best, lasting 4 hours top and within arm’s length. Despite these performance challenges, I do recommend adding Dirty English to your collection – it is a pleasant scent, the bottle is cool, good flexibility for most events, and the price is incredible. I would also add that Dirty English is an excellent entry level fragrance for those beginning their collection and looking for a decent fragrance at a bargain price. 4.0 Stars out of 5 Stars. Enjoy your day…

So yesterday I decided to stop at TJ Maxx with the girlfriend in hopes of finding another cheap fragrance for her, with no luck of course. As always I had to check out the men's section of fragrance and see what random luck I would have and low and behold there's a bottle of Dirty English. I've had samples of it from fragrancenet but I've never had the desire to buy a whole bottle, until I saw it in front of my face for 20$. My girlfriend laughed because she knew how undecided I was on buying it and she saw it as a sign that I should, which I did. Needless to say, I was severely disappointed when I opened the box. Apparently, as we all believed it was discontinued, that is not the case. A fragrance company called "EA Fragrances" seems to have bought it under license from Juicy Couture and completely "cheaped" out the already cheap fragrance. I discovered my bottle was made in October 2014. The cap is cheap plastic, still a heavy bottle, and the box no longer says "do not spray on light clothes" on the inside. Now the fragrance, when compared to my sample that was made by Juicy Couture (not under licensing), is a shadow of its former self. Longevity is worse, the opening smells like a 10$ bottle of a woodsy cologne from Walgreens with a strong alcohol note, and all the notes are toned down. All together, it's a cheap smelling, cheap looking fragrance (with the thin plastic cap with a plastic chain). If you can find the original that was "discontinued" and not created by "EA", I suggest you buy that because that fragrance lasts much longer than this new one and smells much better in my opinion. Such a happy moment that quickly turned sour and disappointing. I will say the dry downs are quite similar, given that the new one reaches the dry down in about half the time with half the strength, and that's saying a lot.

@Le_Coeur_Gothique YOUR COMMENT COULD BE A NEW LYRICS FOR LANA DEL REY'S SONG IT'S VERY BEAUTIFUL :)

Le_Coeur_Gothique

I met a man who felt the same way
That the world had passed him by...

He's riding a Norton Commando 850.
It probably belonged to his father.
He has a stubble and his hair is greasy. Either because of brillantine or because it's been three days since he last went home.
He's wearing a black double rider leather jacket, which surely has seen better days, and dusted black tight jeans and boots.
His weary eyes are hidden behind a pair of vintage American Optical Pilots.
They probably belonged to his father too.
He's leaning on his bike on the promenade, with a hip flask in his hands and a cigarillo hanging from his lips.
He reeks of motor oil and vintage Mickeyrourkeism.
He looks as tough as old boots and equally worn.
He's not looking for trouble, but trouble is definitely looking for him.
His slight whiff of sulphur and phosphorus, makes the Devil smile in his sleep.
He has just bought a fragrance, to spare him the talking.
Which one do you think it is?...

ropb2982

disappointed to be honest, dirty English? there isn't anything dirty about it, its very generic in its composition and is most definitely not a replacement for gucci pour homme.
longevity and silliage are both average, the heart of the scent is somewhat better than the opening or finish.
I will most definitely spend more time with it and give it a few more wearings to see if it can change my mind but I'm not holding out much hope.

spray_and_pray

I gave this scent a negative review earlier in the year and I think my review may be invalid. I purchased a 1 ounce bottle of Dirty English about a month or so ago for $10 or so. The bottle must've been a return since there was no plastic wrap on the box. I just entered the batch code in a "cosmetic checker" and it says my bottle was produced in May 2008. Being 7 years old, I am sure the scent in my bottle has changed. I also tested it again for the hell of it. It actually isn't too bad. I sure a fresh bottle would smell pretty good. If you could find an unopened box, Dirty English is worth a blind buy!

EnoughScents

Could have been an epic scent with that woody accord, but performance lacks. Not surprising it was discontinued so quickly. Even so it is worth a buy if you find it at a discount. If you buy, make sure to use it frequently, as mine has not aged well. One of those cases where the 36M on the back of the box is accurate. The smell has definitely changed from the first time I sprayed it years ago.

PGHChris

Even though this is a more mainstream "designer" fragrance, it is not the same sweet-woody, amber fragrance that the market is overloaded with now. While it may be more synthetic, the oud and leather notes really help this one stand out; it definitely gives off just a touch of the dirty vibe. Performance is OK, but for the price reapplication shouldn't be an issue. Coming from a house that I certainly wouldn't expect too much from - in the sense of being unique, anyway - this is an awesome scent and a great value. It's not nearly as much of a high-school or college fragrance as I thought it would be. I'd even go as far to say it could be by men in their 40's (though it is certainly suited to younger men as well). One of my favorites and I'd highly recommend it.

sameh

Dirty English for Men Juicy Couture is a magnificent scent ( bergamot , vetiver , black leather & sandalwood ) are grate notes in it .
Scent : 8/10.
Longevity : up to 12 hours.
Sillage : 4 to 5 hours.
Bottle design : 8/10.
P.S. the downside is it should be 200 ml not 100 ml. ( THUMPS UP).

marcus71x

I love this lovely peppery, spicy scent, sometimes pencil wood shavings and I can still smell it after a long day at work.

muzzle123

When I first spray Dirty English on me, I get the pepper mandarin note. It quickly dishes out the oud and leather scents. The best way to describe this fragrance is the smell of an old leather jacket you found in your grandfathers attic. I enjoy this fragrance and I think it suits a cold rainy day the best. No more than two sprays of this stuff or you'll choke everybody to death around you as this is a very strong scent. Also don't spray on whiter clothing because the juice will stain your shirt.
