Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker is a Floral Woody Musk fragrance for women. Lovely was launched in 2005. Lovely was created by Clement Gavarry and Laurent Le Guernec. Top notes are Lavender, Martini, Bergamot, Mandarin Orange and Palisander Rosewood; middle notes are Patchouli, Orchid and Narcissus; base notes are Musk, Woodsy Notes, Cedar and White Amber. This perfume is the winner of award FiFi Award Best National Advertising Campaign / TV 2006.

Lovely is the first fragrance by Sarah Jessica Parker (in partnership with Coty Inc.). Obsessed with style and fashion, Sarah always wanted to create a signature scent that would be very sexy and yet undeniably classy. Lovely "pays homage to her mother and the art of perfumery." She did not want her fragrance to be overpowering, but instantly recognizable, like the aromatic concoction she made for herself from three separate fragrances before she co-created Lovely.

Lovely is a soft, powdery, discreet, and very intimate fragrance, announced as a "silky white amber fragrance." It possesses an elegance characteristic of classic fragrances, and yet the fragrance is quite modern and very charming.

It opens with soft citruses and woody (rosewood) notes, with a touch of lavender, which is not at all sharp. The fragrance develops further with notes of apple martini, paperwhites (narcissus), and orchid. The base unites white amber, cedar, woody note,s and white musk.

According to Sarah, the perfume is appropriate for all generations: "from 17 to 107." The fragrance was created by Laurent Le Guernec and Clement Gavarry in 2005 with Sarah herself being the creative director, actively participating in the process from its start to finish.

Overtime , the initial martini note started to come off a bit vinegary which annoys me. I like the dry down but hate having to wait for it . Good thing it’s cheap. NR For Her EDT is similar to this but the dry down on that is a lot more sexier and edgy. This is more demure but sensual

violetaura

This comes off as a lot sweeter to me than the main accords suggest. To me it's a musky floral sweet fragrance.
It's nice, well blended, and I love smelling it on others, yet don't like it for myself (It's a tad too aromatic for me. I prefer patchouli in the base, not the mid notes, but its still not an offensive patchouli!).
I detect this a lot on women in their 30s or above who work office jobs- and id say to each of those ladies- good choice! I truly get why this has remained popular.
If this perfume is not oversprayed (it's STRONG to me. A little goes a long way) and you don't have someone near you who gets allergy symptoms around lavender, then it's a suitable work scent for sure. Also, I don't think lavender is the strongest part of this fragrance, so I don't think it smells outdated at all.

lotuscicegi

Someone gift this to my mum today. If smells different to me. Definitely giving more mature vibes. I can’t say i hate it but I didn’t loved it either.

Italiaaaaaa

I have a Luv hate relationship with this one 😭 stuck between kinda too mature but then when I smell the dry down on my clothes from throughout the day it smells good idk it does smells cheap to me debating if i should give to someone who’d actually like it and use it .

FavourO

At first, I didn't like this but it has grown on me. On initial spray I thought I'll declutter it but decided to try it out again, I get the lavender, martini note and citruses right away.
This is a scent that is office-friendly and lasts the whole day on my clothes. For an affordable fragrance it smells great and is good as a daily driver.

emes369

A fragrance that women love or hate.
I love it ... but didn't to start with. It's a shock at first spray, (I found), but as it settles it becomes something unique, musky, a bit spicy, inoffensive & clean. I can't imagine the very young or very elderly liking or wearing it & I prefer the original to the other versions of 'Lovely'.

TeaFruit

The opening stinks of baby powder with screechy florals and it's harsh. From a single spray, there's something that catches in my throat and makes me want to cough. I blind-bought this as it was so cheap and the reviews are so warm. It must work on others, but I can't stand it. I get no comforting lavender at all - quite the opposite, I find it a little headache-inducing.

When I said to my husband I felt I smelt like an old lady in it, his response was "I'm glad you said it."

Binibecca

I wanted to like this and have tried it a few times but I just can’t get on with it. I find it harsh and something in it makes my nose itch. Lasts all day which would be a positive if you enjoy it but it’s just not for me.

Zeddyteddy

I bought this because I wanted an inexpensive work perfume. This is exactly that! It was pretty much a blind buy (after very briefly smelling it once on my friend). Initially I didn’t like it because I don’t usually go for musky scents but I’ve grown to enjoy it. It’s a white shirt, professional, fresh, office scent. The longevity is surprising. Definitely safe for work where you don’t want to be the only person everyone can smell! I sometimes also wear it to bed. You can’t go wrong with the price either.

SarahPepper

It’s a very clean scent, making it perfect for spring and summer. I tend to reach for this one fresh from the shower because of the soapy note and I like to occasionally wear to bed, but it’s not something I’ll reach for if I want to make an impression

fragheadinme

Lovely is a fragrance I bought for almost nothing.Huge 150ml bottle will last me a lifetime. It is calming lavender, musk patchouli, very watery but nice. It have this soapy, aftershave vibe, but once in a while I crave it. It is perfect when you don't really want to wear a perfume or not feeling well. It gives me clean, after shower feeling. Recommended for hot day upon testing first as is not everybody's cup of tea.

Beth325

So I just bought Lovely, and it just isn't for me, but I respect it.
I recently tried Stash by SJP & loved it. It's one I've been curious about for a while now. My love of perfumes started in college w/ Britney Spears fragrances & Pink Sugar. Since I'm now almost 40, I've been wanting to try scents w/ different notes. I ended up loving Stash- it's dark, spicy & a bit masculine. So I figured I'd try Lovely, since it's a popular SJP one. I just didn't feel the same way about this one. It's very floral on me. I'm not a huge floral person, but I do happen to like Lavender so I thought maybe I'd enjoy this, but sadly no. You really do get a lot of the notes- the florals, the citrus, the woods, the musk, a little touch of patchouli, even the slightest hint of the martini note. That's why I respect it. It's well blended. And its inoffensive as many have mentioned. It's just not me. I still love all my sweet scents, my Britney's, my Pink Sugars, etc. (If you like sweet scents like me, SJP NYC is a good option). And while I do love to step out of my box once in a while (i.e. Stash), this just isn't one that's my preference for whatever reason. But I think if this is your taste, you will enjoy it. Just because something isn't my taste, doesn't make it a bad perfume, & I think it's important to acknowledge that.

Xenia0504

This perfume has been very popular for nearly 20 years, and there have been many accurate reviews here.
I will, therefore, add my terse poin of view:

Lovely is the best all-year-round unusual yet inoffensive daytime choice for any set, elegant & stylish, professional.

earlyeveningsoup

This does smell like narciso and Tocca cleopatra, but it also smells watery and instantly reminded me of Baie 19 by Le Labo. A watery musky patchouli petrichor kind of scent.

AuraAngelMuse

I'm sad to say, this perfume is not for me. Immediately upon spraying, I was reminded of Black Orchid and Velvet Orchid Lumiere because they both open with this licorice-y, vintage vibe which smells like a men's cologne. That's exactly what I get from Lovely. Then as it dries down, its ambery and musky, but there's not enough sweetness for me. It turns a little pepper-y spicy as it dries down as well. I don't like how this meshes with my skin. It makes me smell a little bit dirty. This is like a more citrus-y, lighter version of Black Orchid. Almost like if Black Orchid and Light Blue had a baby. It's pretty strong, especially on clothes. I gave my bottle to my husband because Black Orchid smells amazing on him so I figured this would be good too, since my nose finds similarities. This smells like a typical men's body wash/cologne/aftershave with lavender to me. Will never purchase again, at least not for myself.

molten_pearl

A pretty clean musk. Got a 100ml bottle for under $30 CAD, so its pretty affordable. Performance is pretty bad, if I'm gonna be honest. Its difficult to overspray this one. Some of the other reviews mention a watered-down reformulation, which may explain it.

Its not too generic. The lavender in it is kind of unusual, but very welcome. It adds to the calming scent. I'm sure this would be perfect to wear to work or to low-fragrance environments. I really enjoy wearing it. Though, its unlikely I'll be repurchasing given how my tastes lean a little bit heavier and darker these days.

On a lighter note, I have definitely smelled this before on others. Namely on a distant relative who claimed she held me as a baby and I nodded along politely as she comments on how chubby I used to be. I don't know if the association cheapens the fragrance for me. Scent memory is a funny thing.

kristenboris1997

This is a very nice perfume, nothing out there, not overly strong but okay if you spray on clothes. It isn't particularly outstanding but not bad. I probably won't repurchase as I do believe its been watered down. Lovely in itself is lovely but not anything to write home about. Its a bit generic and safe but that doesn't always meet my requirements. I sometimes like to go for scents that are polarising because I don't care about that. I can't really pick any notes as its just a mish mash to my nose of sweetness without being overly sweet but kind of meh.

Fragnant

It was my signature scent from 2017-2021 since I couldn’t afford NR edt. I don’t trust the newer bottles because Lovely is sold for very cheap now. Makes me think they watered down the new version. This won’t be a repurchase once I finish the bottle. Very comforting for bed time when I’m anxious. I love pairing with the matching Lovely body spray to extended wear.

biby212

This has a very comforting quality to it, very lavender, very woodsy, musky, something soapy and clean. I don't think I would like this fragrance as much if it didn't remind me of my elementary school teachers. This perfume smells like an older maternal figure and I love it, makes me feel so relaxed, I like putting it on before bed, or to go to class. Simple, comforting, and linear, I somehow feel like a man could wear this too. But I will say it does smell like on old lady if you spray too much 2–3 sprays max for me (on clothes).

Oomakasma

I’m so confused. I first smelled the body spray of this and it had an addictive quality to it, so familiar, so nostalgic somehow. It smelled to me like clean warm, wet skin, fresh from the shower. The spray lasts only a minute and then it’s gone, but I bought it because I couldn’t get my mind off it. I wasn’t even sure if I liked it, I just needed it. Later I bought a discovery set with the edp and it’s totally and completely different. Doesn’t matter if I wear it or spray it on paper or cloth, all I get are loud screechy sharp white flowers that never ever end and eventually burns my sinuses and makes me cranky. Ive had the body spray and edp in the roller ball and sample spray vials for several years now and can’t bring myself to get rid of either because I want to understand it. Make it make sense.

After more research and consideration, I think it’s the musk. I think I’m anosmic to it so all I get are sharp white florals, but for some reason I can detect the musk in the body spray. Sigh.

Scorpio Queen

The original I loved, and received many compliments when I wore it. Feminine, elegant, classy and seductive was what it once was. When I finished my bottle, I purchased it again only to find it had clearly been reformulated, for the worse. The new Lovely is no longer lovely, t's a complete and utter shadow of its former self. It has been massacred beyond all recognition. Notes appear to be missing or they certainly don't get picked up, and all that is left is a synthetic, chemical mess. Alas! This was once such an beautiful and special fragrance.

VMonster

This is smooth, simple, and cozy luxury in a bottle. For what, $20? I bought a three pack on and plan to gift one to my mother in law. I love to spray it on my pillow and fall asleep in its divine cloud.

Sassafras23

Lovely Parfum is not even on their store website. I bought Lovely Parfum at a local pharmacy, but I couldn’t find any information about it online. No marketing for it at all. I don’t mind, but a bit strange isn’t?

Erkangel44

There is a new Lovely Parfum version out and it's beautiful but it's not on fragrantica!!

Jesssall

The SJP Lovely perfume is a comforting clean lavender perfume. It has moderate sillage with 6 sprays and carries a smooth lavender note. 💜

naajsbajs

Something in this turns sour on my skin, disappointing.

XxRosexX

I have loved this perfume for so long. It's so sad to see it get discontinued. When first sprayed it really is very similar to Tocca Cleopatra. It smells more expensive than it is, and I can't complain about the performance, because sometimes you actually need a perfume that you can use like a eau de Cologne to freshen up on a hot day or as an out of the shower scent, or to wear in settings where strong perfume would be inappropriate, and this is perfect for just that, and you can always spray all over your body and fresh up guilt free at this price.

Perfect10Tara

It's called Lovely and it is lovely. Good projection and a kind of classic scent with a modern twist. I wore it on a date and the guy said that I smelled lovely which made me laugh given its name. It is pretty mainstream and totally wearable and it is well made. I must have had an original blend because I didn't get chemicals at all. Just a lovely florally, musky, heavy type of scent that smells much more expensive than it is.

Msala140

Such a pretty scent! Just bought a bottle . It is very reminiscent of NR For Her, but the EDT version. On my skin the citruses and musk are prominent but it’s so smooth and calming , very well blended and it’s so calming to me due to the lavender. Only downfall is that it only lasts like 1 hr on skin and clothes . So most likely it’ll just be a bedtime scent . Either way, What a gem for the price !

dronx

I swear the formulation has changed. I used to love this perfume years ago. Now when I smell it all I can smell is a sharp chemical smell. There is no ‘lovely’ smell about it anymore. So disappointing. My daughter has been gifted a bottle for Xmas recently and she agrees that it smells quite chemically.

nastyenka

It may be the power of suggestion from reading the notes, but I get a lot of vermouth-y herbalness. It's almost like a fougiere without the powder.

I love putting the body mist on before bed or after a shower, but it's classic enough to wear anywhere.

vistango

to my nose, it is not musky at all.
very pretty floral shampoo smell.
feminine and clean.

Cindy814

It’s similar to Jo Malone English pear and freesia but replace freesia with lavender. Musky and ambery with intense patchouli and beer notes. A lovely but linear scent. I am addict to lavender so I like this scent.

Thistledonicely

Honestly-this just smells like old fashioned immac hair removal cream to me. Yuck.

abigoyle

I received this as a free sample from the chemist when buying shampoo, and extremely am impressed. It is a feminine fragrance that is easy to like with out being boring. My mother and my teenage little sister both hate perfumes that smell too "perfumey", but love it. They like borrow it before going somewhere nice. It is a lovely perfume 😉, suitable for all occasions.

islaarichardson

to me this fragrance is fresh and floral, perfect for daytime wear but can transition easily to evening cocktails. the musk is subtle and on my body chemistry smells almost like liquorice/aniseed. many of these reviews say that it’s not suited to younger woman but i disagree. if you are a younger woman that enjoys classic perfume scents and likes smelling nostalgic to people i would definitely recommend. sillage is great but not to sure about the longevity, would be a good idea to get the 30ml size and keep it in your purse. the price point doesn’t hurt either ;)

Smonalisa

I bought this because I read it was a cheaper version of Narciso Rodríguez. I do smell the similarities, although lovely is rounder…or should I say , aquatic which smells cheaper. I like narciso(pink) better, but all the compliments have come from Lovely, men and women.

kaleyyg

Based on the scent profile I thought this would be up my alley but it just smells like old lady department store perfume to me. It doesn't smell bad per se, it's definitely a soft scent, but all I get is a very mature powdery lavender with maybe a little floral, I don't get any woodiness at all. And I can usually get down with more mature scents but this is too mature even for me in the opening. Takes a few hours of wear before it turns more musky in the vein of what I was expecting, and at that point it doesn't feel worth it. Estee Lauder's Modern Muse is much better if you're looking for something that actually fits the floral woody musky description. Super disappointed, I really thought I would like this one.

TreenOfLane

I'm an absolute beginner with perfumes. I had Love's Baby Soft and Poison as a college student. I had Elizabeth Arden's Sunflowers and Mediterranean in my 20's and then i stopped wearing perfume. I'm now 50. I had COVID, lost my smell and now it's back, I love perfume. LOVELY seemed a good beginner inexpensive perfume. I blind bought it. I hate it. It smells like chemicals. It smells old fashioned like the church ladies who douse themselves. All I can smell are chemicals- are they aldehydes? I don't know the words. I do know I smell zero lavendar, nothing woody or musky. I'm so grateful the longevity on me is about 10 minutes because it disagrees with my body chemistry and I hate it. I bought it yesterday, so if anyone wants to trade an Elizabeth Arden Mediterranean with me, message me.
I'm bummed that LOVELY didn't work for me, everyone else seems to love it.

sweetcheex

At first it smells very fresh and classy. It’s been quite a few hours on my chest, it now smells woody and musky. Powdery too. It gives off kind of a sexy vibe now that it’s dried down.

ZDooley90

Wow, I was not expecting to love Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker as much as I did! After being recommended Lovely and then finding it at Shopper's Drug Mart for 19.99, it felt like a sign that I must try it, and I am beyond thrilled I did! Lovely quickly became my bedtime scent as it creates this "you but better" effect on the skin, much like Glossier's You, but where Glossier can take on a slightly dirty scent on me, Lovely always feels effortless, fresh, clean, and complex, but not overly complex.

In the earlier spring, I was travelling and decided to leave my bottle at home, but I missed having it in my evening routine, so I purchased the Lovely Body Mist for around 12 USD; it is alright, but there is something slightly harsh in the initial spray; however, it is magnificent for misting on my pyjamas! Since returning home, I have loved layering Lovely EDP over Bath & Body Works Moonlight Path Body Cream and using the Lovely Body Mist on my pyjamas. No words can explain how comforting the scent experience is as I drift off to sleep!

Sadly, I finished my bottle of Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker last night; however, as soon as I finish up a few more bedtime perfumes in my collection, Lovely is at the top of the list to repurchase! If you love scents like Narcisco Rodriguez for Her EDT, Glossier You, or The Body Shop White Musk, I think you will enjoy Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker!

Side Note: I also own Born Lovely, and there are some similarities to Lovely, but Born Lovely feels more spring/summer, whereas Lovely might feel more appropriate for autumn/winter.

Sarahlovesperfumes

I bought my first 50ml bottle of SJP Lovely back in April 2022. It was a blind buy, not very risky because I ended up paying only 13 euros for it.
I wasn't expecting much when I first smelled it, and found it very meh 😕. Oh...another Floral and mature leaning one, not my vibe blablabla. How wrooong I was 🤦♀️

Two weeks later I tried it again, this time before going to bed. Never went back after smelling my pyjamas in the morning!! The dry down on this perfume is the perfect clean linen laundry dryer sheets scent to my nose !!

Ended up spraying my pillows, mattress, sheets like a crazy perfume lady every night and also spraying my drying rack any time I did laundry...

Soooo back to now, I just bought another bottle, this time the 200ml ginormous bottle for 21 euros...yeah. And I use it as previously mentioned, spraying almost every textile surface in my apartment 😄!

Love the scent, find it very soothing, recommend 100%

calo_calico

It’s quite nice, and I wear it from time to time, but I don’t love it for me, because I don’t feel like it’s an honest expression of my tastes or my essence, but it’s still a very lovely scent. It’s constructed very well. I wear it when I feel I need a bit of protection, when I want to feel unexposed, and like someone else for a day, and just hide out a bit. It’s good scent for that reason for me. It’s enveloping, like it says respect me and keep a little distance please, I am that kind of woman. The thing is, I am really not. I am somebody that is far too approachable and I sometimes need a break from that. For me, it’s quite peppery and the patchouli stands out.

juniperlilacs

The initial hit is identical to Narciso For Her EDT (the black bottle and my long time favourite), but the martini and lavender quickly turn this into something much more transparent and straightforward, despite having way more notes. Though I have both original For Hers I added Lovely to my wardrobe now because it was low risk (smells familiar, small bottle, very cheap) and it’s heading into summer when the For Her musk might read cloying or too bold in the day. Lovely definitely feels like the little sister of For Her even though it’s an older scent. Where the Narciso musk is a bit sweaty, very sexy and knowing, the musk in Lovely is freshly washed and never had a thought in its head.

As for performance it turns to skin scent almost immediately and is the only perfume I’ve needed more than 2 sprays of, it disappears quickly. I layered it with Narciso Musk Noir and it added a freshness that was eventually overpowered, but it’s a great way to add lavender to the OG For Hers! By itself it’s a bright and fresh version of For Her EDT for when you don’t want to project any sexiness at all.

Usernotknown7

The only reason I got this perfume was due to its similarity to narcisso her edp and edt and I must admit this is 85% like the edp the pink bottle , bcz I have both the black and pink bottle , and it’s smells so much alike like narcisso , I love it !!! Al thought this one is a bit lighter on the floral notes , I don’t know why people say it’s a old lady powdery perfume , not at all It’s powdery soft feminine perfume , I absolutely love it 8/10 although it’s more long lasting then narciso and its still very good for the price !!!

Louise1984

I started wearing this last year and it has become one of my favourite fragrances. Opens with citrusy notes which are a little too strong (must be the Bergamot?) but soon settles into an elegant, musky, woody aroma. There is a subtle sweetness that stops the scent from being too ‘smokey’. I’m quite surprised by all the votes for this being a spring time fragrance. I think its cosy woodiness is better suited to the autumn, although it can be worn all year. Not really sure about the ‘mature’ comments, although I’m 38 which might put me in the mature category! The scent is grown up but not ‘old ladyish’.

Edit: Sadly, I’m having to give this one up as I’ve started to notice it triggers a headache whenever I wear it. I’m quite sad as it’s a lovely perfume at an excellent price point. 🙁

rene.saller

Lovely doesn't smell anything like what I would have expected from the branding (SJP in a super girly pink taffeta ballerina dress). In fact, if I hadn't read the Fragrantica reviews, I might have passed on an incredible bargain that came my way with a full-size bottle of the perfume plus a generous-size container of the scented body cream (which I tried, and it's very nice quality, comparable to any good department store offering). I layered the lotion and EDP before bedtime, and it was very pleasant and relaxing. The lavender is the top note for me; I do catch a bit of the narcissus and possibly orchid, but this is mostly a woody aromatic scent. I get why people say it's sort of unisex. My husband likes it but demurred when I suggested he wear it--and that was before he knew the name or saw the bottle--so I think there must be more floral in the bouquet than I'm registering. I think I smell like a very clean barbershop, which is quite nice. You might even say it's Lovely.

Goudaouda MoonNugget

This is exactly what it smells like, lovely. I tested this at a Macy's and bought the 50mL in a set that comes with a large body lotion. Lovely reads as a light floral musk to me, I get a dominant lavender with patchouli. The patchouli is not too strong here and most likely supports the longevity on skin. A little hippie, with a dash of socialite; Lovely is quite different from my usual tastes of smoky, spicy, sultry Middle Eastern rose, saffron and oud. It is very work-safe and restaurant-safe, as it is not so strong that I will be able to smell and taste it while eating my food. I love this for what it is, and expect that it will blend well with floral vanillas. Ranked among other SJP fragrances I own, I would place this second, with Stash coming first, and Stash Unspoken in third place! Give it a try, especially if you are looking for something refreshing and clean without the awful cotton blossom notes or quickly disappearing citrus notes. This was obtained during the fall, but I am willing to bet that this performs even better and shines during the heat and humidity.

Sillykn

This is the most confusing perfume I own...
One day I'll spray it and can only smell a musk bomb that smells like the perfume has gone off and the next day it will smell like a delicate fruity floral musky light and airy scent. I'm afraid to wear it in public because I don't know if it will smell good to other people or if will turn bad during the day.

viewdemonde

I stopped a quite elderly lady who I’d earlier stood next to in a store. I asked her what the lovely perfume was. From her description, I deduced that I already had it at home! She said her daughter had bought it for her and that she can’t really smell it herself, but others around her tell her it’s lovely, as did I! It’s a delightfully delicate floral which suited this willowy, elegant, silver-haired lady perfectly. Indeed it IS “Lovely.”

Opening is heavily woodsy, like the inside of a poorly ventilated log cabin or an old local pub somewhere in the countryside. It smells "hippie" to me, probably because of the prominent patchouli, but it reminds me of an herbal deodorant or a natural bug repellent of some kind. The dry down smells straight up like nutmeg on my skin... This is a very strange perfume; it being a Sarah Jessica Parker's scent and her being a New York girlie, I expected Lovely to be more than log cabin and nutmeg.

Anfissa

Initially my impression of this perfume was a bit negative, as All I could smell was something dusty and a little medicinal. However, I love testing and reapplying perfume, and so now it has begun to captivate my heart. Now as I smell it I am thinking of an elegant very polished department store and the new stylish but classic clothing. I find it comforting to be inside a large immaculately decorated department store. There is something very safe there and reassuring. It now smells to me like a hug from an older well meaning female friend or an auntie. It’s raining outside. You know you are with someone you can trust, someone who will do the right thing. And you are wrapped in a silky shawl that she gifted you not too long ago. Yes, so very calming and comforting and well… lovely.

IngridFitz

Just received this perfume and I’m not sure if it’s old or a bad batch or if I just don’t like it but it is not lovely. I purchased on eBay from one of the large overstock sellers. It is very sharp and just an old generic perfume smell. I cannot pick out any notes whatsoever. I would be interested in testing someone else’s bottle to see just what the heck is going on with mine however I don’t know anyone with this scent.

Lemonheady

A really nice, grown-up scent. My husband likes this one on me. Relaxing, sophisticated, and it can be worn at any time for any occasion (in my opinion). I was expecting it to be really powdery and musky, but I find it to have a lot more going on beyond those notes - in a good way. It doesn’t last long on my skin, though. I make sure to spray it on my clothes for better longevity.

luanneog

Based on the notes I thought I would like it more. But to me it smells dated, vintage and old lady like. It's floral, earthy, sharp, screechy and soapy. Maybe it's my nose.

Obsidian100

i tried this and naciso rodriguez for her edp side by side. the sample for lovely opened very alcoholic which may have been because the sample is spoiled but i dont know. its strong on the lavendar while the other is strong on blossoms. i think i like NR a bit more.

qianqian

When I tried it at chemist warehouse, I couldn't smell it at all. Now at home trying a vial, I realised that this comes across as a gentle airy lavender and bergamot smell. Does anyone sense ginger? I think I do, although it's not in the note list. It's non intruding and safe for an office day.

Cosmo's moon

This started out as a “like”, but became a love/addiction. I mostly smell a very soft, soothing lavender/floral that’s well-blended with light musk. Very linear on me. It’s soft, feminine, and comforting. It does give me a mom vibe, but a pretty and caring kind of mom vibe. I don’t pick up on anything mature smelling. Maybe that’s because I’m 37 - have I reached the “mature” point? Lol
Might just be me, but it slightly reminds me of neutrogena sunblock, but with lavender. Not at all in tropical or beachy way. Like a creamy, calming, softly floral lotion. I spray this on my bath robe and the scent sticks for days. But it really doesn’t project as much as I want it to, sadly. Someone would have to be very close to smell it. I still love to wear it often and never want to be without it because I find it so soothing and comforting. This one in particular is not just a perfume to me, but also like aromatherapy. It’s not for everybody, but definitely worth looking into.

windchime_00

At first, when I tested it last fall, I thought it was lovely, just like the name, but too commercial smelling. It smelled like a certain kind of person from the early 2000s. I am not sure if my nose changed or the juice, but I just picked it up in the evening after a hot day and it smells much less artificially commercial. The patchouli is coming through and permeates the lavender and other florals. It is intoxicatingly fresh and serene.

I was thinking of gifting it to my mother, but now I may keep it and then get another one for her. Very nice bedtime scent as others said, and last time I tested it, it gave a gentle scent cloud for at least 6 hrs.

Update: I sprayed it on my pillow and it became too much after while and the patchouli seemed more earthy to me after intense exposure. I also think I liked it better where I sprayed it on my skin rather than on cloth, as it starts to melt in rather than maintain through these stages. Changing this to a like rather than love. It's a good value for the price, but still not quite as safe of a buy as something like EA Green Tea.

KatelynMLovesPerfume

It's funny how scents can bring you back to a certain time in your life. One of my moms ex friends used to wear this every single day lol. So when I smelled it again last year I was like OMG NO lol it just reminded me of her and couldn't wear it. Also, it's really not my thing, I tried to like it.. I see the appeal in it so I won't say it's a bad fragrance by any means, but just not for me. I thought I would love it because of the lavender note but I feel like mixed with the other notes in here it doesn't mesh well, just not really my scent personality either.

hwolfe7308

A very beautiful scent and a must for me from now on. I bought a small bottle not too long ago and used it up very quickly, so I bought a big one now. I truly love the scent. I get loads of bergamot and somehow it reminds me of 4711, which is very popular, still, in Europe. It can be worn anytime, anywhere. I wished it had a little more longevity, but that may be just my very dry skin, and at that price point it really is very affordable.

katiejon

It took me until 2023 to try this fragrance. Why did I wait so long?

The bottle, to me, is timelessly elegant.

The fragrance starts out “fizzy”... like a bubble bath, and dries down to soft, relaxing lavender. A perfect sleep scent. A perfect “cozy scent”. A perfect scent when you need to decompress and relax. This scent is perfect for just about anytime - maybe not in the daytime when the weather is stiflingly hot and humid.

I like it enough to say it’s a ten/ten for me, and to want all the flankers as well.

It truly is lovely.

muskymale

A very classy perfume. Every time I wear it, I feel so lucky to be wearing it. I appreciate this perfume so much and it’s been my signature perfume since it came out years ago. Thank you for reading.

Sherlock Ness Monster

This is a very pleasant, spa-like, clean scent to wear to work. It is one of my favorite scents. I work in healthcare, so any fragrance I wear can't be loud, weird, edgy, intrusive, or create too much of a noticeable "scent bubble". Just something soft that can wear close to the body so I can smell nice when I am standing close to a patient while drawing blood or helping with procedures. I always get compliments from patients and coworkers when I wear this to work. It really is "lovely".

Flame Maiden

This smells like the Daphne bush in my Nonna's garden. Brings back beautiful memories for me. I couldn't care less if it's a cheapie, a celeb scent, I LOVE IT and will always have in my collection.

deliberateangel

I had previously reviewed this as amazing. As the bottle ages, body spray and perfume, it becomes unwearable and incredibly masculine. I'm assuming the bergamont and martini notes and perhaps the patchouli merge together to create something that a grandfather would adore himself. It's strong and headache inducing.
*** I didn't receive a bad bottle. I've bough MANY over the years and it happens again and again.

Iosifina N.R.

Lovely, was love from first sight. Fresh, flowery, soft and elegant, a little musky, all together a companion of liberation! I hope when she gave her name, she was walking in Santorini an evening with the sunset wearing white with her hair playing with the wind. That is Lovely.

Sassafras23

Oh my goodness, how enjoyable is this (if this profile is your type)! This Cinderella. When you splurge on something ‘exclusive’ you treat wearing that as a special event to be remembered forever. You don’t expect much from budget and can be wrong about it. Pricing skews perception a lot. But this is telling me that the best things in life can be free - or near free as Lovely is. What’s even more surprising than the quality of the scent is its staying power. I don’t think ‘you get what you pay for’ applies in this case.

Libre got me interested in lavender, but powerful as it is I decided against Libre as more suited to people active in public life and more anxious to impress. I tested a more whispery lavender instead - Burberry Brit Rhythm EDT - and was on the verge of buying (possibly one of its very last remaining bottles of it out there, by the way), but then thought why not wear something with lavender I already had but ignored. And am I rewarded! Lovely is great and better than Brit Rhythm as far as I’m concerned. Valuing more what one already has could be another lesson from this.

Finished a bottle of this, wore it mostly to bed as I found the lavender relaxing. I absolutely love the martini note in the opening, I am constantly surprised I can smell it. As this dried down, it turns into a woody musk with a hint of lavender. The lavender is not too soapy or piercing or strong. This is a very clean fragrance. It's long lasting (12 hours plus on me) and is actually quite strong but not overwhelming. Is this the best quality fragrance out there? No, there are definitely some synthetic woods or some ambroxan but it's not offensive, still a lovely fragrance, literally and ultimately a fab buy for the very little that this costs. I enjoyed my bottle but I'm not rushing to buy another bottle right now, I'd be happy to come back to this though.

_manahiltahir

Lovely is a very non offensive and clean scent. I mostly get lavender, bergamot and musk in the beginning and then it settles down to an airy, fluffy lavender, musk and amber combination.
It is best worn in Summer, to run errands or to wear to the office. It is a nice everyday scent.
If you’re not a lavender or musk fan, do not get this.
As much as i appreciate the scent of this, i believe that it is definitely more suitable for older women (40+). I personally layer this with a deeper gourmand scent to balance out the notes and make it smell more wearable for me.

browneyedmama

The first time I wore this was around 12 years ago. I was in my 20s. I liked it but it ended up being a one time purchase. I purchased it again a month ago. I realize now this was formulated for older women. It smells completely different on me now. The dry down of Lovely on me is reminiscent of Estee Lauders Youth Dew on some older women - Im not describing the blunt, woodsy, earthy smell, but the soft, calming, sweet smell that some women’s body chemistry is able to create.
Of course in no way am I trying to say this is the exact same as that, but it’s close. If you’re mid 30s or younger and don’t like it, I’d wait and try it again when you’re closer to 40. It really is, Lovely. Side
Note - I purchased the eau du parfum, and I only spray it once on my wrist, and very lightly press my wrists together. It lasts several hours. And is enough to catch peoples attention, “Wow, you smell so good! What is THAT?!”

suzanne_ronald

VELVET Lavender MUSK. Opens with a soft floral-woody burst of lavender supported by multi-faceted bergamot & rosewood that has rosy, fluffy, velvety, musky, powdery, citrus & aromatic nuances, deepening into the floral heart of patchouli-orchid with earthy, watery, floral, velvety & sweet tones, all resting on a musky base with amber-woody nuances. Overall I get fluffy, airy & velvety floral that's similar to a MiddleEastern rose-patchouli blend, with lavender up top. Well above average performance. I was on the fence about this scent profile, but the more times I test this, the more I fall in love with it.

Contrast to Narciso Rodriguez For Her EDP:
These are different, but they have a very similar vibe with musk & MiddleEastern leaning florals. Lovely is similar to a cross between NRFH-EDP and NRFH-EDT, but has the lavender up top. Roughly equivalent performance.

Contrast to Armaf Niche Gold:
These are different, and ANG is more of a cross between Narciso Rodriguez For Her EDP and Noir de Noir Tom Ford. ANG is more honey forward while Lovely has more forward lavender & musk, but the floral-patchouli blend is very similar. Roughly equivalent performance.

Contrast to Born Lovely Sarah Jessica Parker:
These are different, but there is a similar DNA in the drydowns. BL is a much lighter wearing experience, and more fruity-floral forward, while Lovely (OG) has the prominent lavender note. As they dry down, however they become more and more similar. Lovely (OG) outperforms.

Overall: Beautiful scent and well above average performance, this is the perfect scent to wear for velvety, soft vibe It's a love for me. Enjoy!

k8iet

A very simple, non offensive scent. Something I use to layer with other scents, nice to wear for work as it doesn’t project very far. I like to layer with Coco Mademoiselle or YSL Libre Intense. If you’re not a fan of lavender I’d stay away as it’s definitely lavender heavy.

passthemustard

This is a perfect bed scent and the more I wear it the more I like it. The lavender is relaxing and the fragrance is fresh. And like the best one night stand, it is gone by morning.

Laysul20

Ok so hear me out- I hated this. At first spray I wanted to choke but I was bought for me as a gift so I tried to be nice and appreciative. All I got was some chemically patchouli and lavender.

However, I later tried it on my skin- again first spray smelled like detol with patchouli but once it dried down, the scent was gentle, subtle slightly musk, quiet intimate and barely noticeable. Nothing nasty or screechy- quite a safe option for everyday use.

There’s nothing particularly special per day, but it’s not awful at all.

You just have to get past that initial nasty head and it’s not a perfume you could just spray on your clothing.

Would I buy it again- probably not ! But I will enjoy it while the bottle lasts

Jordan 99

For some reason bugs me, had to scrub it off. It’s not overly sweet, sickening or cloying. Just not my cup of tea, i guess Levander and martini don’t vibe with me.

cristinap9587

So hyped so I had to try it but I gave it away. The musk is indeed clawing and suffocating, I usually love musky scents but this one is too much, might be the lavender that turns it up too much. It does indeed smell very very similar to NR For Her, so if you dig that one, definitely check it out.

Utopia76

I blind-bought this one and it was very disappointing to me, it’s very screechy and smells like a perfume my grandma could have worn. I gave it away.

Heathermarie8617

I had heard of Lovely by SJP in recent months after watching some fragrance reviews on Youtube. Most of them made the comparison to Narciso Rodriguez's Her, which I have never smelled, but they made this sound incredible. I didn't go out of my way to get it, however was happy to see a body spray/perfume set at TJ Maxx for $18, so I bought it. I had this idea in my head of what it would smell like (which isn't a good idea) so upon spraying and letting it set for a few minutes, I must say that I wasn't impressed. For some reason that martini note was very prominent and I was turned off to thought of smelling boozy. Luckily, that faded into the background quite fast. I didn't really give the perfume much thought, figuring I could always declutter/gift it to someone. Fast forward a couple of hours, I'm sitting on the couch and I smell something beautiful and comforting...obviously, it was me. lol I began taking in deep breathes, then realizing how amazing this fragrance actually is. The lavender, musk and amber seemed to be what stuck around and created this comforting, motherly scent that was so, well, comforting! Alas, I will not be giving this away after all. I will say, the longetivity is good...roughly 6-8 hours, however the scent "bubble" is small. This is the kind of fragrance that you only smell when you get in close to the person wearing it, which is sometimes what I prefer, anyway. The name "Lovely" truly fits the fragrance. Cheers!

meowjaz

very much a fragrance most suitable for older women,, i received lovely as a gift before i got into perfumes, and as someone who has always enjoyed sweeter scents, lovely was definitely NOT for me. however, since then i have grown to appreciate this scent a little more. on my skin, lavender is a dominant note throughout, yet becomes more mellow the longer it sits. lovely is a very soft and mature fragrance, but it's still not something i can properly enjoy because of how much it reminds me of an old lady 😭

VintageMaven

Very sharp synthetic opening. All I get is bergamot and lavender. Not much musk unfortunately. Clean, fresh laundry.
I don't understand how this gets in any way compared to Narciso Rodrigues For Her EDP. Not in the same league.
You get what you pay for here.

Allthingssmelly

This is a beautiful delicate fragrance that I love getting whiffs of when wearing it. I admit that the initial spritz has a sharp nail polish like harshness but that quickly fades. I think this is wearable in any season but I prefer to wear it in spring and summer. It's sweet, light, musky and floral. The lavender is delicate, not soapy. To me it's the perfect floral perfume that doesn't punch you in the face and is actually enjoyable to wear all day. It could easily become a signature scent. This won't give you a headache or leave you itching to scrub it off. You can leave a trail if you put too much on. I think 1-2 sprays is enough. I can smell it all day on me. I think this is a safe blind buy if you like a true girly fragrance. It's definitely nice to have this in my collection instead of another vanilla or marshmallow strong trendy boring addition.

MCW7

I really love this scent. I’m laughing here because people are explaining it as screechy? It is definitely not
Screechy! It’s very soft, it’s a ‘lovely’ scent lol. I consider Elie Saab girl of now, girl of now shine, to be screechy, and I still love those perfumes. Those are powerhouse screechy. cloying. but nonetheless beautiful. Please do not pay attention to anyone saying that this is a strong or screechy perfume . it’s not. I think it’s fresh and really the lavender is not that strong in the perfume. To me , I’m getting way more patchouly and musk . This is coming from someone who wears straight lavender perfume and I recognize it immediately. so if you want a soft musky slightly citrus , a bit of floral, patchouly scent. this is a good one. It does not last super long. but I really like it. For the price you can’t beat it.

helenfran

This is such a fresh, uplifting scent, floral, a bit citrussy and just... well, lovely! I only wish it would last longer as for me it's gone within a couple of hours, even after madly over-spraying

blackoutangel

This is a nice scent for the price
Quite mature and professional which isn’t usually my thing but when I do want that vibe I go for this.

I’ve actually layered it with a cotton candy body mist and it was such a strange but enjoyable combo for me two completely different scents but it added a sweetness which I crave in my fragrances

AceofRomCom

I love this lavender scent so clean and perfect for every day wear! This is my go to for work!

AliS1104

This only shines in summer weather, that's when longevity and sillage increase and you can feel it being so zingy and refreshing, since it's not really sweet at all. Could be nice in other seasons/colder weather if you layer it with a vanilla scent.

softhe

I've sampled this fragrance at work, and I have to say I'm really not a fan. Just based off of the profile it looks like something I would really enjoy so I'm beyond disappointed that this isn't something I would wear.
I find it way too overpowering, and I would definitely call it mature. To me, it even borders on masculine. It's just a bit dated imo.
If this is your cup of tea, the price point is fab, and the sillage + longevity are almost too good; I find it very overpowering, especially because I don't like it.

HoustonJr

Bought this for the wife who's worn Paris Hilton, Tommy Girl, Estee Lauder Pleasures. Her and I both immediately enjoyed Lovely upon spritzing it on our wrists. It is, by far, the most sophisticated of the aforementioned frags (not that that's saying much).
To me, the fragrances I mentioned above are for any age, even high school girls getting on the school bus. Lovely is a self-confident, put together, business women, in her thirties or forties, in NYC. It's got that musk undertone while still being floral, giving it character. Would buy again!

alternateu

(Blind bought the perfume after reading excellent reviews)
To my nose, very slightly sharper, screechier, soapier version of Narciso Rodriguez' For Her EDT. Less flirtatious and creamy, and slightly sharper (probably the lavender? I don't actually get a prominent "lavender" note though, it comes across more of a "herbal impression").
Without comparisons - a musky, sharp, lightly floral scent. Smells slightly more "work" than "play" to me because of its sharpness.
Moderate to good longevity - lasts almost to the end of a typical work day, with good projection.
A pretty safe blind buy, would recommend.

hooriyahabib7

very floral , will take a little time for you to love it
little musky but very fresh

perfumelovere

I've always been tempted to pick this up but I stop myself because I strongly associate it with someone I used to work with. I remember distinctly walking into her office and detecting a crisp, soapy, woody, bright floral that I asked immediately what she had on. I recall a couple times picking it up in the air and wanting to smell it again. I think the formula is nice for any occasion. Original batch had a scent bubble but not sure about the latest. Many perfumes these days don't after an hour.

IsaBreeza

Wasn't love at first spray but you have to let it sit so the woodiness settles in and oh my goodness I was addicted when I smelled it after five minutes. I would say you either love this or hate this. My sister told me it smells like grandma, but my mom loved it on me. I knew what I liked so I blind bought this, but if you ever complimented someone on their perfume and they told you they were wearing NR for Her, you will like this one as well. It doesn't smell flowery sweet - is smells flowery fresh and I'm here for it.

spitfyre27

I really like this perfume a lot, it is very nice and refreshing. Very light and floral, it does smell similar to Narciso Rodriguez For Her EDT but obviously it doesn't hold a candle to that one. NR For Her EDT is full-bodied and strong, whereas this one is very weak and the scent doesn't evolve after a while, it just disappears. But for this price, I'm not complaining.

Momopeach

I got this because of all the good reviews and everyone saying on YouTube how nice it is. It is definitely fresh, soft, and economical.

I'm trying really hard to like it, but there is just something a little too mature for my taste. I'm realizing as I get into this hobby that I need sweetness in my fragrances. Maybe if I layer with a vanilla...

qinny

This is a really great perfume for work. It smells like clean musk, woody notes, and a tiny bit of lavender. Overall, it is non-offensive. The only downside is that it does not last long and does not have much of a projection compared to the Narciso Rodriguez EDP.

CarnationCelt

It smells exactly the way you think it will.

Light, floral, and a tiny bit fruity thanks to the orange and bergamot, this is an incredibly delicate perfume. The staying power is almost non-existent. In time it does mellow from the initial burst of pink nothingness into a slightly more solid, woodsy lavender - which is nice enough in and of itself, but this is a scent that unfortunately never shakes its unoriginality.

It's very much a ~celebrity scent~ as distinct from a fragrance by a dedicated perfumer, and you can see it in the longevity and lack of vigour in the notes. It's weak. There's no statement being made here; the name is super fitting in its banality, this hovering, characterless pleasantness that asks nothing of you and says nothing about you.

Replykatee

The similarity with NR for Her is really 90%.
While NR evolves and eventually has a soft, pleasant base Lovely is almost linear. For the money, though, it's a nice scent that you'll feel comfortable in, especially in the spring.

enpointe

When I look at this bottle of pink perfume with no hard edges with a name like Lovely and SJP as the namesake, I assumed it would be a clean floral or powdery scent based on what I have read about it's creation (they wanted something mainstream and easy to like for SJP's first venture into fragrance), and honestly expected it to smell like a Fancy or similar. I should've known better as I do own Stash and am well aware of her depth. Thus, when I sprayed it on for the first time, I was taken back a little by the woodsy, musky, lavendery bite. There's a bitterness to it that I didn't hate. I don't know how it's described as a pretty, light floral. To my nose, the wood and musk stand out so much, with a hint of lavender as far as florals go.

The scent is very reminiscent but I can't quite put my finger on what it smells like. Perhaps I just associated this scent with sophisticated, grown up ladies when I was younger.

This is a strong scent, and I'm not sure I could wear it as an everyday fragrance, especially for the office. My noseblind husband even noticed it in the car and kept calling it musky. This is not your average celebrity scent and I will save it for special events and nights out, for that sophisticated, grown up lady smell.

Trishalalalala

If you have tried niche/refined designer perfumes, you wouldn’t reach out to this. “Lovely” is lovely, but at home. It does envelope you with the lavender and musk bubble, which I liked. But yeh, nah.

Irishblondgourmand

A nice light pretty floral, anyone offended by this perfume must have a bad batch. It's powdery and comforting. I can definitely get lily of the valley too though !

mirrorghost

this opens with straight up lily of the valley. i am floored that it is not listed in the notes. then i get something watery, i guess the martini note. dries down to a soft clear musk and lily of the valley. there is maybe a TINY hint of lavender and amber in this but i really mainly get the 2 notes. i am trying this on a late winter day that's a bit warm, but will re-try in spring weather, which i think is most suited to this.

Vermeer

Classy, elegant fragrance that smells much more expensive than it actually is. Fresh, powdery and reserved. I wear this when I want to feel feminine and refined. Admittedly it's not the first thing I gravitate towards, but it really does tick the box when I just need something lady-like, inoffensive and pretty. Lavender, clean florals, powder, and musk. Recommend, especially for the price.

kittykat1

I adore this gem....What I smell is Lily of the valley and rosewood, although LOTV is not listed..Just so perfectly comforting, fresh and aromatic...However, the performance is crap, even with overspraying..Never have sprung for the NR for her EDT, which I also love and they are so similar..I am trying to stay away from synthetic musks...

Kizzyb93

Great little cheapie, very musky love lavender in this, SJP will always have a place in my heart

noneya88

I blind bought this at Burlington for $12. Based off the notes and comparisons I didn't think l would like it, but it seems to be popular for what it is so I still wanted to try it. In short, I'd rather have my $12 back. Musk is just not for me... it's too mature smelling.

stephanienwc

Of course SJP wouldn't disappoint. It's a warm, cozy, indeed lovely scent that reminds me of snuggling into the softest pink cashmere blanket on a chilly day. It's womanly, elegant and smells more expensive than it is.

CelestialSarah

I got a bottle of Lovely that says Coty on the bottom. Is this the original formula?

mariminney

I like it! Could last a little more in my skin. The resemblance to Narciso Rodrigues for Her is strong.

peachygal

There is nothing floral or feminine about this scent. To me, this belongs on a man and even then - it wouldn’t be great. This gets compared to one of the NR fragrances. I still cannot find one NR fragrance that I find even remotely nice so it’s not a surprise

I don’t understand the appeal in this. It’s a hodgepodge of notes and nothing stands out. The end product is an alcohol, chemical screechy mess.

If you are into feminine, flirty and sweet scents - this one probably won’t be for you.

hotbaby1

It’s nice and light, very light. It smells nice and not too floral, it’s safe on that side! Good for the office. Only down side: the dry down is masculine.

BellaBUL

Уникален е! Мек, топъл, чувствен. Заслужава си всеки лев!

kittywhiskers

Love ittt was on the fence for so long not sure whether or not to buy this, I have so many celebrity scents and many of them have turned out to be disappointing. Finally took the plunge last night and I'm so happy I did. I can't wait to try other SJP scents, as Lovely is such a pleasing scent for me and i'm curious to see what else she has to offer. I love patchouli and woody notes, and the slight floral twist on this creates such a well-rounded perfume. Perfect for casual or work wear. A warm and cozy scent i just can't get enough of. Longevity could be a bit better, my only complaint.

Pixied0ll

Inoffensive fragrance that is dominated by lavender, musk and patchouli. I do like this scent but I usually just wear it to sleep or to places like doctors offices because of how light and “uncontroversial” it is.

MandalaaXO

The martini note got me, but the soapy cologne turned me away. Not what I was expecting at all from a scent called Lovely.

Anamandy

They seemed to have changed the formula on this. Since it has been introduced, I must have been sent a dozen samples with purchases I made over the years. I just received another one with an order and it smells different than what I've tried before. I dug out one of the old samples to do a side-by-side comparison and it certainly smells different. It appears they toned down the lavender and patchouli. Before it was a lavender patchouli bomb on me and since I don't like those notes heavy in any fragrance, I didn't like this. Now it smells like Narciso Rodriguez edt or edp. but much, much lighter, like an eau fraiche of that scent. I like it now but since I already have both the aforementioned scents, I don't need this. So, if you also didn't like the heavy patchouli and lavender that was in this fragrance before, try what is selling now as you might be pleasantly surprised. As it is now it's a great fragrance for work or any place where you want to be a little low key. It's light enough where it won't offend anyone, but you'll still smell good and be able to enjoy it. Moving this to a like.

Lils.lou020

Absolutely lovely bought it within seconds. Like is such a winters and summery smell. I love it so much. Definitely worth buying 300 just to stack everywhere 😂😂😂

Carissaochoa

I received this as a gift from my mom when it first came out. It has been an absolute staple for me since the moment I wore it and will always be. Floral Musky frags can be tricky with me but this one works beautifully. The patchouli is not dominant – just enough to harmonize with the florals. The lavender and woods round it out perfectly; everything about it is just right. This is one of my safety nets. Easy go-to. So much beauty in its simplicity. Love everything about Lovely.

handkmommy

I was looking for a musk that wasn’t too soapy or too heavy in aldehydes. I didn’t know I’d find that in this. I knew it was along the lines of Lancome Idole and Narciso Rodriguez because I watch YouTube reviewers. I bought this as a gift set on clearance after Christmas. Was I ever surprised in how much I like this perfume. It’s just a pleasant musk that can be worn anywhere and everywhere.

I don't know how Narciso Rodriguez for her smells like, i don't know how YSL libre smells like either, and i don't know whether it has been reformulated or not, but all i can say is that although it smells quite vintage(like, almost 20yrs, right?), it is pure addiction when i spray it all over my body.

That is really a surprise to me because when i first sprayed it on the back of my hand just to take some sniffs, all i perceived was only woody lavender with subtle sweetness and greens. It was only an ok; strong--even slightly masculine, a bit sophisticated, mature lady, not at all sensual, and i even recall my childhood memory where i saw my mom getting ready to work. But it goes in different way once i sprayed a proper amount of it after taking a bath. It becomes... effortlessly addicting?? How come 😭😭 the scent isn't even changing much between each note.

Masterpiece!

The first time I tried on Lovely, I wrote it off as a cheap, skin scent rip-off of Narciso for Her, but my relationship to it changed fast. When I contemplated giving my sample away in a swap, I found myself clinging to it, not wanting to let go for some reason. It didn't take long for me to start reaching for Lovely far more often than I wear Narciso for Her, and I think that's for a couple of reasons, first being: it's just so easy to wear. It was one of the first skin scents that made me understand skin scents, because I think a lot of the most popular perfumes in that category are pretty imperceptible. I'd try on something like Not a Perfume and not really be able to smell it myself, thus wondering what the point was of me even wearing it. I wouldn't understand people raving about those kinds of scents, saying things like, "It's just for me— it's not for anyone else." But Lovely fits that bill perfectly, because it is kind of a thin blanket that I for sure can notice, but isn't going to necessarily be noticeable by others, and it likely won't give anyone a headache. In an increasingly ableist world where plenty of people respond to perfume with discomfort, the kind of compassion I sense in Lovely's throw is very admirable. It's polite. (Definitely a Libra.)

And all of the above is nice about Lovely, but something else about it excites me a little, and I was surprised to get there. When I reviewed its classic, arguable point of inspiration, Narciso for Her, I called it "clean sheets on date night." Narciso for Her is what the aspirationally beautiful woman in a hot (straight, unfortunately), well-to-do couple wears for her anniversary date, and what she reapplies before sex, envisioning it as a perfectly orchestrated romantic performance— something that would look great on camera. After sex that was much messier, emotional, and more human than she'd expected, her perfume has faded and blended with the scent of sweat to become something different. Lovely smells like pillow talk, the vulnerability that follows sex, especially with someone you love. It makes me imagine the thoughts a safe, loving partner would be having in this pillow talk: seeing her hair loose, and her makeup faded, and inhaling that lingering, slightly tampered Narciso smell, and thinking This is the woman I love. If Narciso smells like some kind of promise of sex, Lovely smells like the afterglow of a promise fulfilled.

The woman of Narciso is put together, elegant, and definitely sociable, but there's a tension beneath her skin, a control she ultimately hopes to maintain. Lovely is that same woman with her hair down, comfortable in her skin, a little more at home with the things she'd otherwise try to hide. Narciso is lingerie on a shelf in a nice store, or wrapped in the tissue paper of a shopping bag. It's untouched, and perfect, but pointless, because it hasn't fulfilled its purpose. Lovely is the same lingerie under clothes, picking up the sweat of an active night, no longer concerned with being perfect. It's that same lingerie on the floor of a bedroom, or in a hamper. It's been given shape by the dirt of life. To keep the metaphor going one more time, Narciso is the perfectly styled doll in a box, looking beautiful on a shelf and accumulating worth for its pristine condition. Lovely is that same doll out of the box, with her hair a little mussed up, and her accessories scattered around a bedroom or house, priceless for the joy she's provided, and the love her owner feels for her.

Lovely might've studied someone else to become who she is, and made the cheap move of following a formula with proven success, but Lovely seems happier than Narciso. Sweat is the vital ingredient that separates the two of them. I thought it was a little repulsive at first, that it was a reason to argue for Narciso's superiority, but it adds that sex, that life, that I feel like is missing from Narciso. I love the sincere humanity I pick up from that musk, and I think it's why this might be my favorite skin scent. It's polite, but not waiting for an identity (like Not a Perfume or You) or controlled (like Narciso). Lovely is alive. She's not afraid to buy perfume at a drugstore, and probably doesn't even think twice to be ashamed of doing it. And maybe, in the end, these oft-compared counterparts are just two sides of the same person, or idea: the put-together fantasy of the feminine self (Narciso) vs. the honest reality, beautiful for all its flaws (Lovely). The truth of the latter is what makes me keep coming back for it.

CatOwned

This smells good to me. It is unoffensive and could be an any occasion perfume, yet it somehow isn't boring at the same time. It is a very comforting scent. With all that lavender, this would be good to go to bed to. To me this smells a lot more expensive than it is.

vwgirl123

This perfume was my absolutely favorite in the whole world for years. A few years ago when I repurchased a bottle online when mine had run out I smelled it and thought I had got a fake one. So I bought another bigger bottle and oh no I think it's fake again! Then I'm getting suspicious so I go into a store and buy a roller ball of it and its the same different scent! Turns out a new company makes it now so they've changed the formula. In my disappointment I've tried so hard to like the new one but I don't. It used to smell like a sweet well balanced floral creamy white musk and now its a screachy hit you in the face lavender top note that over powers everything else in the formula.

Edit to my original post:
I found a perfume that smells 99 percent exactly like the old Lovely and it's Modern Muse by Estee Lauder. If fact if you sprayed me with it and told me it was Lovely I would have believed you.

joy3141

A lovely, clean, soothing scent. Perfect for after shower before bedtime, occasionally. I don't wear it otherwise - IMO, it's a little too low key for any other time.

ellovesperfume

exactly like narciso rodriguez for her

BougieGirlShops

I decided to test this a day after I test drove YSL Libre, and I thought I was going nuts because I kept smelling Libre. I realized both have very strong lavender forward notes to me. I am definitely not calling this a Libre dupe, just that both are warm lavender fragrances. They are kind of swimming in the same lane though, I am very surprised it hasn't shown up in the "reminds me of" list.

What I can say is, it's definitely not a Narciso Rodriguez For Her dupe at all for me. I own both the EDP and EDT and they are no where near similar on my skin.

On me, Lovely is very much a powdery lavendar with patchouli and musk.

I would say I am ambivalent about this for now, I'll try it again in warmer months.

PlanetGrl

This is mostly linear to me, in the most comforting way. I thought I disliked musk, but this is one of my favorite fragrances that combines it with the woodsy notes in a way that is pleasant and never cloying. I love to wear this to bed at night, maybe the lavender helps this association with winding down. The value for money is impressive, Lovely lasts all day and through the night on my skin. It manages to effortlessly go from office appropriate to happy hour while maintaining its elegance. I couldn’t have chosen a better name for this, it is undeniably Lovely.

Yurippe

The drydown is similar to Lazy Sunday Morning's, but it takes too long to get there and I don't like the top notes.

franzisqueer

Smells identical to the wildly hyped narciso rodriguez for her. Has a very mature vibe, like this is not a young woman's fragrance this smells like a woman with an office job and kids because rather than floral and fruity its spicy and musky, almost leaning unisex. Kinda pungent so if you're looking for a "my skin but better" musk scent this isn't it but it will make you feel like a boss chick. Also the body spray concentration smells just as good.

zenbabylove

This and all of the Narciso fragrances smell identical.Powerful musk! I love it only in a small dose — it’s clean and fresh

Peaches&Cream

A clean soapy lavender skin scent perfume that lasts 6+ hours. On first spray I get the woody, lavender and patchouli notes but as it dries I get a soapy scent like when you bathed with a hotel soap. This perfume is more wearable for older ladies than teenagers.

Jajally

I absolutely love this. Somehow I feel like I’ve smell it before when I was young but cant pin point where I smelled it from. Lovely smells like a lovely lady that wears light color dress. Tbh there’s nothing special but definitely make people feel comfortable when they’re close.
The only down thing about this is that the sillage is not that good for me and the longevity is only 3-4 hrs. Not sure if it bc the humid weather but if this is a dupe of Narciso and narciso has more longevity, I will definitely buy Narciso next time (very soon. Bc I hv to spray so many time with this lovely perfume)

jesz

Ivory Soap, Patchouli, Daisies, Powder.

On a colder day, the green floral notes come out.
On a warmer day, the soapy powdery and patchouli notes come out.

On my skin, it becomes 100% Ivory Soap and Powder. (My skin amplifies all powder notes)

In high humidity it can get screechy with a metallic note. Best in dry air, I think.

AllyMage

This smelled very old lady to me at first. I got mostly patchouli. After a couple times sampling it on my skin (not a full wear quite yet) im coming around. Im getting the musk and lavender. Im finding i am actually enjoying what I get when I go in to smell it. Especially after a couple hours when its more soft. I can see this being really nice in the cooler weather. I cant stomach much patchouli in the California heat. 😅

abbieclark67

This is in my opinion, one of the finest celebrity perfumes ever! A fantastic combination of musk, lavender, and patchouli! The addition of orchid and martini simply adds to the deliciousness. Everything about this scent is perfect: the name, the bottle, and the advertisement!!! It has a fantastic silage and it works extremely well throughout the colder months when it keeps my mind clear, as well as during the warmer months when it just settles me down. So this is a definite victory for me! Perfume for all seasons! It is appropriate for everyone! Very assured and absolutely wonderful! Gorgeous!

knightlore

I’ve been buying Sarah Jessica Parker lovely since 2010 for my Mrs .. I think it’s lovely also 😍😍

christinebyh

It's a very pretty lavender soap/bubble bath scent, which I find very soothing. Not something I'd reach for special occasions, but a good staying at home/bedtime fragrance. Longevity/sillage moderate. Inoffensive, unless you hate lavender. The citrus notes are very faint - they are just barely peeking through the lavender. Otherwise pretty linear woody lavender/floral.

bellereve

I do think this fragrance is exactly what it's called. It's a lovely scent, especially for a celebrity fragrance. My only issue is that the patchouli note came off a bit strong to my nose. It's a very sharp and earthy opening, then balances into the soft florals. The dry down is nice with soft musk. It's a fresh and clean scent, however that patchouli really gives it an edge throughout the entire longevity (which is moderate). I don't really pick up on any specific notes, particularly martini. But, it is a nice scent, that patchouli note is just a little heavy for my taste.

Update 10/18/22: this is more than a nice scent. This is beautiful. OMG, lovely indeed. I didn't give this a chance before. In my opinion, this fragrance shines in cooler weather. The patchuli note is mellowed and blends so nicely with the florals. I honestly underestimated it originally. This is so clean and well put together. It makes you feel exactly like that: "lovely".

Autumn_Moon

I ended up liking this, but I did not experience what most other people seem to experience! (The whole "lavender/bergamot/martini/orange" thing? I didn't get any of that. At ALL. Which, as it turned out, was fine in the end.)

On me, up front, this smells like a blend of lilac and lily of the valley. (Since neither of those are listed notes, I can only scratch my head in bewilderment. Oh, well? I guess fragrance is truly individual? I don't know what to make of it!) Since I *looooove* both lilacs *and* lily of the valley, and rarely find fragrances that represent them with any accuracy, I can hardly be disappointed by my discovery. However, I am genuinely baffled, because that's not what the listed notes proclaim, and that's not what most other people think this smells like!

My bottle is, most likely, an earlier one -- older, yet stored in darkness and proper temperatures. (My mom included this bottle in a box of scents she no longer used and decided to give to me to appreciate -- as she knows how much I love perfume -- and she bought it when the fragrance first came out. So, my best guess is that the juice in the bottle I sprayed on my skin hails from the mid-to-late aughts.)

The drydown turns into a a musky floral... pleasant, to be sure. I can detect a hint of patchouli, but it's not overwhelming or overpowering; it's just there to anchor the fragrance, and it never takes center stage. As the fragrance fades, it turns a bit powdery, but not obnoxiously so.

Yes, I do like this. Surprisingly. I can't see it becoming an everyday fragrance for me, but I think it's a bargain and it certainly has a place in the world of perfume!

happysniffer

Cosy, feminine and well blended. This is unlike all other celebrity fragrances I've tried, my impression is it is timeless. I find it's a bit overpowering on first spray but it quickly settles and the citrus softens.
Very woody but in a soft and cosy way. I think this could be worn all year 'round and would make a great, affordable signature scent.

The lasting power is very impressive! Sprayed it on in the morning, went to work and could still smell it distinctly on my skin the next day.

SummerRose

I tried this about 10 years ago and I wasn't sure about it. I decided to revisit some more affordable fragrances.

When I smelt Lovely again this year, it was as the name suggest. I don't know if it's because my nose is more developed or if it's because I'm more open and I am not classifying fragrances based on whose it is but more about my experience with it. Needless to say, I think this is beautifully done and a gem for the price. On my skin it is a floral, woody, musky, feminine scent. It has a classy/sophisticated air about it. I get good projection and longevity from it. As I walk around there is a scent bubble all around me and it puts me in a happy place. IMO, it can be worn I'm all seasons, day or night. GREAT value for money.

I cannot believe I did not revisit this before. It's really nice and worth a try. I'm not usually into musky scents but I'm stepping out of my comfort zone and enjoying more fragrances! Thumbs up from me!

Mika.Ume

My most favorite perfume. When I wear this, I feel like an elegant conservative Mom, with finesse in her every move. On my skin this smells clean musk woody floral. A very beautiful fresh LOVELY scent. ^_^

MonFelle

I can mainly smell the florals and woody notes within this perfume. You would probably like this if you like Narciso Rodriguez edt black bottle.

GenevieveRose57

I did not like Lovely at all, unfortunately. I got a woody linear scent that I could barely smell. I did not detect cozy musk or much of anything else. I thought I got a bad batch. Tried it multiple times, to no avail. In my eyes, this scent is for an older conservative woman. Not a cozy or fun or sexy scent. I would not call it work appropriate as the woods are quite strong.

AlliCat1215

I enjoyed this considering the price I paid. You can get this for dirt cheap and it lasts long and is fairly strong. Great value. Woody musky scent. I can see how some would say it’s a dated scent.

Rcates78

I blind bought this one thinking I'd love it by the notes listed, but all I got was powder, wood, and musk. It smelled outdated and out of step to me (although to be fair, I was trying it over a decade after it was released). I gave it a good ten wears, maybe, before I gave it away. I just didn't experience the scent everyone raves about. I often wonder how much climate plays a part in whether a fragrance works for someone or not. Maybe this plays better in a northeastern climate than in the desert southwest, where I lived at the time. At any rate, it didn't work out for me and SJP.

Lollypopp

It took me a minute to get on board with this one. I didn't hate it at first spray, I liked it, I just didn't see myself wearing it so I used it as a room fragrance. After I sprayed the room one night I realised that it reminded me of something. So I sprayed it on my wrist and let it develop and it took me back to my childhood, sitting at my mothers dresser and trying on her makeup and perfumes. It reminds me a little of MYRURGIA MAJA a perfume my Mum used to wear that I loved on her. It's about a 90% dupe of it, similar enough to remind me of my beautiful mother but slightly softer with less silage and projection than I remember of Maja. It doesn't last long on my skin, about an hour tops. To be fair my skin does tend to "eat" fragrances. I won't re-purchase this when the bottle runs out but I might track down a bottle of Maja for the sheer nostalgia of it.

EDIT: I will re-purchase this perfume. I have grown to love it and it smells incredible on me. Over spraying or carrying around a small bottle to re-apply is ok as it is so inexpensive. ❤️

obssessedsniffer

Very Clean dove deodorant smell. I think it would be a nice everyday scent. I like it.

devaluxe

I always get compliments when I wear this fragrance. Coworkers will ask, “What fragrance is that? It smells amazing!” And when I tell them it’s Lovely they almost don’t believe it. In fact, one coworker said, “it doesn’t smell right on me but on you, wow!” So maybe it’s one you’ve got to try yourself because it seems like it smells different on different people. I get lots of compliments though so I’m going to keep it in my collection! Especially since it’s so affordable!

barrett1

I tried this on the skin at a friend's yesterday, and got nothing but patchouli - either straight up or any stage of the dry down. Confused by all the positive reviews, did I miss-smell it? Maybe I will have to try again some day.

Mona Lygre

I have Covet Pure Blossom, whitch I absolutely adore, but this" thing" has only been a "meh..." untll now,

I got this "thing" in a swapp some y ago, and I thought it was horrible, until now...

-Just so suddenly I kinda like it, ???, sumething has happened over all these ys, it's just not any cowabonga yet, but, it's starting to get more and more cuddellling... and it looks like I'm starting to fell in love again!!

Everything about this perfume is said already, if y just want to smell good - y reach for this "thing" :)) 8/10

hexed

Has a similiar sharpness as the discontinued green Chloe & it makes me think of my childhood. I grew up surrounded by bushes of berries, ferns, nettles and often played in the forest nearby. It has that kind of a green tone, a bit raspy. It makes me feel cleaner in this hot, humid weather. Very chic, it feels feminine almost in the way of old Celine.
I do sense something floral, not overbearing. I have problems with lavender but it fits the texture, being dry, clean and cool.

ArianaS

After reading the comments I didn’t expect at all to last so much on my skin, around 4 hours in the summer. The first spray it smelled exactly as everyone said like an old lady but after a while started to smell better and I even liked it. I do think it smells a lot like For Her by Narciso Rodriguez but more wearable version, softer and more feminine. I can’t use For Her because of the strong wood notes, lavender and patchouli, all this gives me nauseous. For her is more masculine cologne smell.I should have taken this from the beginning instead of Narciso Rodriquez if anyway I can’t use it.

Lyric82

It’s nice enough but has no oomph to it. I’d say this is the safest of the safe kinda boring choices. I do like the scent, but it’s so light and quiet that it feels like it’s actually asking permission to be the most polite perfume ever created. I kinda expected more from it given how many people talk highly of SJP fragrances. Even if it was a little bit louder I would rate it higher. The smell itself is fine, just more demure than a whisper.

hazygail

Beautiful scent. It does smell like the weaker version of modern muse. It also disappears quite fast. I don’t see this smelling like Narciso Rodriguez.

Ticketgirl

Well...it's lovely. I can say that for it. Having just finished the book by Chandler Burr that details the saga of developing two new perfumes, this being one of them, I have a new appreciation for the product. However, I don't recall much, if anything, being said about the perfume's performance. That might be because there is none. It's 9:30 a.m., and I've sprayed, generously, three times. I can barely smell it. But, what is there is delightful. Not too much of anything. I must say I'm really loving the rosewood. Others have mentioned that this is the perfect scent for the office. I tend to agree. It's very personal. If I could smell it better on myself, I would forgive the lack of projection and longevity. But, I'm having to work for every whiff I get. Too bad. It's...well...you know.

Sierra_b

To me it's smells like man deodorant really it's not sweet with heavy dose of scratchy lavender. I don't see the comparison between this and NR for her EDP it's way smoother and feminine.

frangiris

I don't like this - the smell I get is confusing. It reminds me of a fruity-floral, except that the fruit is only citrus, and it comes with a dose of lavender, musk and woods. Yet, it's still light and fresh. This is the type of scent that I would expect in hand sanitizer or a cleaning product.

Sahraily

Red lipstick and red dress femininity in a bottle. My favourite lavender scent. Is a bouquet of lavender with musk and a touch of wood and sparkling champagne. Is musky, fresh and lavender /floral suitable for all year round. The downside is the performance you have to over spray and carry the bottle but for the price I’m not mad at all 🤷🏽♀️

Tinabill

Demure cozy musk.
A truly “lovely” musk. It starts with aromatic notes of lavender and citrus, quickly transitions to a softly sweet floral heart and ends with a woodsy base, but has a pillowy musk all through.
My disappointment is that it is gone in a couple of hours during which I have to glue my nose to my skin to smell it. It lacks an edge but is good for days you don’t want to overstimulate your senses.

ThatGothBBW

To start off,I'm sooooo glad that I didn't buy a big bottle of this..... I hate to say it, but I truly do not understand the hype or love with this fragrance. It's just ok. It's light, floral, musky, and a teeeeny bit sweet. Something comes off very peppery on my skin, and also quite rubbery. Not sure if anyone else experienced this. This is clean, light, and pretty non offensive. It's nothing memorable or special, but that's just my opinion. This fragrance would be perfect in the workplace, or on those days when you can't decide what to wear. If you want something to just smell nice, and to not cause others to gag, choke or get a headache, then this is a ideal choice.

SusanTheTeach

I LOVE this scent. It is so beautiful. This scent is a soft lavender musk in all its innocence crossed with boss lady. Very feminine and delicately dominant at the same time. Just gorgeous and perfect for the office.

Search and Discover

I can see the similarities that reviewers have mentioned regarding Narciso Rodriguez for Her and Philosophy Inner Grace (I have both). However, there are important differences to each.

Lovely is much weaker than NR, lacking the musk and the strong floral projection. Lovely is a much gentler, less in-your-face perfume ... more everyday polite lady than sexy siren.

I bought Lovely since it was mentioned as an Inner Grace dupe ... I can say that there is a strong similarity, but it's not nearly as fresh as Inner Grace was. I find Lovely to turn a little sour on my skin after an hour or so. If you're looking for an Inner Grace dupe, Philosophy's Live Joyously is a more accurate replacement as it keeps the fresh element.

Briigita

Yes, it does really smell like Narciso Rodriguez For Her EDT. But a little bit more light and fresh. You can really smell the levander note which is the main difference between these two. I love them both. Lovely is my favorite at home and bedtime scent. Impossible to get irritated by that. I ended whole bottle! Will totally repurchase. Lasting power is not strong tho, but for the price it doesn't hurt to respray during the day.

Mynoseisblocked

I went with my friend to buy this we brought the gift set for this which was a very good price. She said it smelt quite nice however, when the gift receiver opened it and sprayed it, it smelt very cheap to me. I didn't fancy it but they (gift receiver) seemed to like it enough so I guess everyone has different tastes, I just found it chemically/alcohol-ee couldn't really pick up a scent with depth.

Snifferdoodle

This is the only perfume I have ever bought a new one of immediately when my old one was finished.

It's just a classic, simple, yet very feminine and comforting scent

kiaoi

This perfume is elegant, romantic, sweet and soft, it makes me think of the airy tutu Sarah Jessica Parker wears in the opening of SATC. The scent makes me want to dress in dusty pink and beige clothes, with gold and pearls jewelry. It’s powdery, comforting and girly, I agree it can be worn by a 17 to 107 years old girl. It vaguely reminds me of Cabotine by Gres, although that one is more complex. I will try to wear it at the office but this has a “night perfume vibe”, maybe because of the comforting, powdery and musky overall scent.

SweetJhane

I’m surprised by how much I enjoy big citrus openings in scents - like an olfactory palate cleanser and appetizer in one. The opening of Lovely is a great fresh citrus, bringing the lavendar into play and making all things sparkling and clean. Lovely is very clean and fresh throughout, somewhat sweet, and I really like it. The disappointment is the longevity on me, 2 hours, stays very close to the skin, making it a no for me.

perfumelover9999

i get mostly woody notes and flowers. this is very strong and not at all sweet. personally i hated this but these types of scents aren't really my thing anyway

Jiayi122

I compare it with Narciso Rodriguez For Her the black one, they are quite similar at a glance, however, a little different.
For Her is more heavy on mask, and better at diffusing, over spray would case headache on me.
Lovely is more light in terms of mask, more fresh scent, no headache when over spray, but not so good at diffusing.
I feel lovely is more for daily and relaxation use and For her is more for a date ? Lovely is cheaper, definitely another thumbs up.

rosehips

Perfectly middle of the road for me.

Starlight8

I honestly don't see how Narcisso and this are the same!A bit of similarity maybe, but that's it. Had both in their original version. Hated Narciso from the beginning but loved Lovely. Not an expert, just my opinion, but Narcisso has something so sharp and off-putting, is it the roses or the musk ,I have no idea. Now funny thing is that after Covid, all my perfumes smell horrible like gone off citrus (my nose to blame). Haven't used much for the last 5 months . Until I recently smelled Lovely again after many years. It is the only perfume that smells normal 😮. Probably missing something that the others have! But I'll be running to buying it,again 😂

egetoerikaget

Nem átlagos, nem mindennapi, nem trendi. Semmi cukor, semmi édesség, vagy vanília. Tiszta, friss, gyengéd, de határozott és nőies. Megosztó, mert vagy szereted, vagy nem. Nem lehetsz semleges.
(Édesebb illatok frissítésére tökéletes alsó rétegnek is.)

Fashionplatefanny

It’s a very strong, mature fragrance. It’s nicely blended and well rounded. It’s warm but linear. I think it classy, it’s a nice fragrance for bed as it’s not too stimulating or nice for a fluffy sweater day. Otherwise I don’t see myself wearing it as it’s just too mature smelling.
I much prefer Born Lovely. Completely different fragrance and in my opinion a much better fragrance.
I do like the fact that the musk is fluffy and doesn’t smell synthetic like The Body Shop White Musk. I can not stand White Musk.
I think this is a good office safe fragrance because it’s so linear.

diamond74

This perfume has been majorly watered down and reformulated! Lovely body mist is way stronger than this edp. The newer bottles just aren’t worth buying, in my humble opinion. I won’t be buying anymore, that’s for sure....

angieiles1

Sprayed this on my skin at the chemist. All I can say is that to my nose it is revolting and I couldn't wait to wash it off. Horribly cheap and sickly smelling 🤮

Yllowstar7

I was scared to try this. Bought the travel size and just wore it today. Based on the notes I thought it was going to be masculine, harsh. I’m glad I bought it based on reviews. This is very well done. I cannot distinguish notes but it is truly a great perfume. Did not smell old lady ish, or your typical perfume notes that are around nowadays. And can’t beat the price. I don’t no now silage or longevity since I was extremely moderate just in case I was not going to like it. I kept sniffing myself all day long to smell this gorgeous perfume. I would not say it is a blind buy.. I can see why some people would not like this.

Guerlinade01

One of my top 5 perfume…Luca Turin’s review is still accurate even though many years have passed. Feminine with an edge, delicate as a ballerina. Worn by many, but still remains unique. And we’re not even talking about the price!

vanilie

this is so nice, cozy and musky, perfect for going to sleep or a white sweater during the spring. the problem is i had to submerge myself in it to get any projection and longevity. mine is a 2020 reformulated batch produced by lovely distribution comp. will be looking for an older bottle because the scent is worth of its praise.

snifty

It is lovely but not for me so - message me if you want to swap this for a different EDP

correspondencepersonal

The marketing on this perfume really threw me. I immediately put this into the "generic" category, simply based on the perfume's bottle and the general marketing efforts. This is one reason why I never purchased this, until seeing some of the comparative sample tests on youtube. In the videos that convinced me to try this perfume -- Men like this perfume and ranked it very highly.

This is a soft approachable classic perfume, the comments that this has a "masculine" note... that's not my experience of this perfume. This is ultra feminine. This would be versatile and comfortable ANYWHERE, in fact - I don't know a place where this perfume would NOT be appropriate.

This is extremely similar to one of my all time favorite perfumes by Avon, Rare Pearls. Rare Pearls is slightly more floral, but they are so close that they are like sisters that look and act extremely similar. One is more musk based, the other is just a shade sweeter and more floral based...but generally, extremely similar. I also feel that this would be in the same fragrance genre as Prima by Avon, which is another favorite. Prima has more of a patchouli type base, rather than musk - but the general essence is unobtrusive and soft - just like Lovely (I don't have that perfume to compare, but this would definitely be in the same general fragrance family).

Lovely is linear. What you smell, is what you get. This doesn't evolve and carry you on a mythic journey anywhere.
However, the linear fragrances are some of the best to serve as the base for layering. You can spritz other perfume notes over this and create perfumes that are uniquely YOU.

I like this one much better than I thought I would.
This wears well. It is not a stand out, this is like wearing a soft cozy sweater that is really comfortable and pillow soft.

I've always loved musk notes in perfumes, this is one of my very favorite fragrance notes.

When I think of Sarah Jessica Parker in relation to this perfume -
I immediately see her wearing the tulle ballerina tutu like dress that was just a puff of soft ballet pink.
The dress is famous, this may have been the dress she wore in the original marketing for Sex and the City.
She did a few portraits photos in another soft tulle ballet pink dress.
Actually, after googling this - she has several different variations of this dress which have become somewhat a "signature" for her.

Sarah - your fluffy, curly hair is your signature --
Why are you wearing your hair so close to your head?
This is NOT YOU!
Stick with what people remember you by -
Your fluffy, curly hair!

Narcisso Rodriques For Her - compared with Lovely by SJP - Side by side comparison

Narcisso Rodriques goes on much stronger at first spray.
It also has a minty fresh note that morphs into the musk with almost a lavender type musky smell. This starts much more tolerable than a lot of the aldehyde bomb type perfumes where you have to power through the first hour before you finally get to the dry down where the perfume is more beautiful. This starts well from the beginning.

Sarah Jessica Parker's Lovely is more like the dry down effect of Narcisso Rodriques For Her (without the stronger minty fresh note in For Her's first chord).
At first spray, you get a soft focus Monet painting/watercolor type - (no harsh edges) impressionistic floral composition. This is pretty from the git to, you are not having to wait an hour through an aldehyde bomb start - where it finally fades into something that is wearable. This wears well from the beginning. This is a well blended chord without any seams or noticeable notes calling attention to themselves. The composition is lady-like, non-obtrusive, soft - doesn't call attention to itself -- but is highly PUT TOGETHER.

I like both Narcisso Rodriques for her and SJP's Lovely - they are similar, but when you compare them both on your arm, you can pick up the subtle differences. I think Lovely would be easier and less complex to layer with other fragrance notes, if you are using this for layering purposes.

It’s similar to Narciso Rodriguez for Her but way more discrete and really lovely, a perfect name for this beautiful perfume.
It is so discrete and enchanting that you could wear it anytime, anywhere. You won’t standout and you won’t be announced by the fragrance when you arrive at a room but you will be permanently surrounded by it’s adorable fragrance.
Lovely sits really close to your skin but it blends with it in such a perfect an delicate way that you will feel it as a second skin.
Soft lavender, patchouli, narcissus, woods and musk that’s all I get on me and it feels perfectly unisex unlike Narciso for Her.
Sarah Jessica Parker really gifted us with a beautiful, timeless and lovable perfume you can wear every day.
Great job by Sarah, this creation is truly Lovely like her!

This smells EXACTLY like NR for her on my skin. I just tried it next to each other and they smell the same on me. the only difference is probably the lovely one is tiny bit sweeter. like 1%. So it doesnt really matter.
I am saving for the NR but i guess i'll use the money to get this and even can get another perfume!

For the lasting power i have to say this stays on my skin for around 3-4 hrs, and 6 hrs on clothes. Also very cosy for bedtime fragrancE!

I was hesitant to get this as a replacement for Narciso Rodriguez for her, but it honestly is a dead on dupe for a fraction of the price. I will say it is ever so slightly sharper, probably due to the lavender, yet also smells like a more feminine and younger version of Narciso. If you are wondering which one to get and short on money, get this 100%. Unbelievably beautiful perfume for the price. There is a strong alcoholic blast at first though so wait for that to dry down.

I’m going to be layering it with my Narciso to extend its use :)

After finding that I am gravitating to some of the musk type perfumes, I decided to go back and try this perfume that I first dismissed this perfume because it was so hugely popular when it first came out, that everyone had this in their fragrance collection. Now that this has simmered down a bit, I decided to try it again. So glad that I did.

This is similar to Narcisso Rodriques for Her, but a bit lighter.

This is a lady-like, beautiful, soft powdered musk type perfume.
Perfect perfume for every occasion, however - I would mainly use this perfume during the day.
Could definitely be an everyday signature perfume choice.
This is less intrusive than a number of other popular perfume choices.
This is huggable, approachable, soft, sweet, and feminine.

This is more of a linear perfume, it doesn't transition or morph into different fragrance notes during the transitions from first spray to final dry down. The benefit of linear, this is a great fragrance for layering other perfumes that need just a little bit of oomph - or the added note of musk.

-------------

There are two perfumes from Avon that this reminds me of -
They are all like sisters... only shades of differences between them.
Rare Pearls and Prima (Dreams...the light pink Prima).

-------------

A lot of people compare this to Narcisso Rodriques For Her -
I'm trying them side by side now.
Ok, here's the deal.
Upon first spray - Lovely and Narcisso Rodriques For Her are the exact chord, however - Narcisso Rodriques FH has more apparent notes that are more distinct. There is a minty fresh note which is singing out rather loudly upon the first spray of NRFH. This minty note seems to be merging into a note that smells like Lavender. There are more evident woodsy notes in NRFH.

Lovely is like the watercolor soft focus version of Narcisso Rodriques For Her.
It is like extracting the basic essence of the perfume notes (although it is missing the minty-fresh note that I smell in NRFH...and has replaced that note with more of a powdery type note).
If Lovely were a piano chord, it would be as if you had extended the original chord without any notes or distinction, just the sustained chord with the soft peddle gently muffling the sound.

Lovely is "Soft" and totally "Unobtrusive".

I agree with this review comment:

Lovely is quite lovely; it's a really excellent celebrity fragrance. Softly floral. Low sillage and reminds me a bit of air freshener but not necessarily in a bad way. ... An excellent value for the money. It doesn't stand out but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it - it's perfect for when you want to feel poised and feminine but unobtrusive.

Let me first say I bought this when it first came out, but unfortunately I got rid of it because it ended up not smelling good on me. Well I was watching some YouTuber talking about it and how lovely it was, so I did my research on Fragrantica and started to see if my taste has changed towards this fragrance. Today, I went into Marshalls and there it was 30ml for 12.99 😳😎, I grabbed it and headed to check out all the time jumping for joy on the inside while waiting in line. Ok, so now the review, much nicer than I used to remember not as sharp as it used to be, perhaps it was reformulated or I matured and my sense of smell changed, I believe the latter. I get woody notes from start to finish, a excellent spring transition fragrance. I wish it did have better longevity thou, it’s ok at best I did try it after I was shopping etc so maybe I need body lotion to capture this beauty longer. Sillage I can’t tell yet I do smell it on me but again I need full day wear. If you like clean fresh rosey woody scent this is perfect! Grab it! Highly recommended 9/10

At first I purchased the body mist and thought "oh wow, ok!" but I knew I needed to buy the perfume itself. I am elated that I did. The blending of the musk and lavender is exquisite. So classy so feminine so right. This will be an everyday scent for sure. I wonder if some reviewers got a bad bottle because all I got was heaven on the first spray. The atomizer is a beast, too. I see why this won awards. Well done, SJP.

Awful! This was a blind buy. I felt pretty confident buying Lovely, as I’d watched many fragrance YouTubers gush over it. I’m new to the fragrance world, so yes, I’m sure I have an unsophisticated nose. I can’t detect exotic notes or describe perfume like many can. However, I can detect what I like - and what I don’t. All I get from this is the smell of a martini .... a martini that’s been sitting around for a few days and has gone rancid. The smell literally made me nauseous. I gave it an hour to “dry down” into the Lovely, delicate, feminine scent others describe. I couldn’t take it. I scrubbed my arm, put my shirt in the wash, and have been putting rubbing alcohol on my arm to get rid of the smell. I really wanted to like it. I wasted good money on it. Lesson learned! No more blind buys for me I guess. This isn’t a put down for anyone who likes it. Just goes to show how our noses are wired differently.

WHAT IS THIS?!?! It's one of the worst things I've smelled. It doesn't open with alcohol like most fragrances, it opens with ACID. Once that dries down then it becomes the most synthetic, cheapest soap ever known to man, so damn sharp to the nose, it reminds me whatever boys were overspraying back in school, some dollar store cologne or deodorant that makes you hold your breath as you pass by them and 5 good steps after that. ANTHONY and GIACOMO, I'm VERY disappointed in you. I've ordered a sample since watching their reactions, as previously I'd agree with nearly all of their opinions. But I swear, covid must've messed with their noses.

venuspeach

Kept seeing this on youtube, so I picked one up for $16 at TJ Maxx. I tried this years ago and didn't like it, but I think it was probably just too mature for my sweet/gourmand/fruity taste back then. It reminds me of that feeling of going to bed after taking a shower, putting on freshly washed pajamas and crawling into freshly washed sheets. Ultimate comfort, and I feel like it would be appropriate for most situations.

MariaAndrea90

I had been wanting to try this perfume for a really long time. It's truly affordable, just 10 £ for the 50 ml bottle. It truly smells like the pink bottle of the NR perfume!
I agree with most reviews that this is a more mature scent and this is what I like about it. It is classy, clean, delicate and elegant. The ad of SJP in that pink dress is truly spot on.
You can wear it every day in spring, through to the autumn months. Perfect as an every day scent. The longevity is impressive because I can still smell it on me the next morning. It does indeed smell soapy, powdery and musky. The scent is feminine and classy. I also like the vintage style of the bottle. I think it is one of the best celeb perfumes. Lovely!

kaxmir

For a low priced EDP fragrance...I LOVE IT! Seriously! I get a lot of compliments...it's light but lasting, powdery totally feminine....I wear it any season....I have tried Sarah's other fragrances..like Covet..BLAH disgusting!

Other fragrances I love...Mugler - Angel, Dior - Tendre Poison, Prada - Amber, Prada - Prada

la.femme.scent

soap-y, clean, fresh scent

this one surprised me because I don't typically like celeb perfume, but for the price point it doesn't smell too cheap

perfect for casual wear or if you just want to smell overall clean

star.daydream

Smells like dryer sheets in the best way possible. It smells clean, musky, a little fruity to my nose. I smell apple -maybe from the martini. It is slightly unisex but slightly more feminine. I really enjoy the scent and think it would be great in the spring and lighter summers. I don’t get lavender (I love lavender) so that was disappointing. I’ve only sampled narciso perfumes and this does smell very similar to Narciso For Her. I asked my sister her opinion as she isn’t into fragrance. She said it smelled very unisex leaning more cologne: very musky (smells redwood a lot), no real lavender (artificial like dryer sheets), and heavy musk. She says is very enjoyable but can see it more on a man or a very confident woman. Overall clean and agrees it smells like a dryer sheet.

melusina1982

Lovely it is indeed. A perfect staple for all weather and ocassions.
It is very similar to the Narcisos, like a light version.
Musky elegance with a twist. Super comfortable to wear.

eau de dosa

A much softer version of Nirvana Rose by Elizabeth and James. It’s quite nice.

YLC629

Lovely has been in my collection since it was released in 2005 and I'm on my third bottle. It is just such a pretty scent. I get no woodsy notes and no patchouli at all. On me, it's heavy on the lavender and musk, with a bit of the apple martini and orchid. It's the only celebrity scent I've ever loved. My husband doesn't notice a lot of scents but he always compliments me on this. Lovely will be in my collection as long as they make it.

Renee G

Meh....
It’s ok. I purchased the small travel size thankfully so it wasn’t a big investment. It’s clean, fresh, light, with a hint of spice. Nothing more. This is a great one to keep in your bag or car for a freshen up. Next to such a heavy hitter like Stash, this one falls short.

Yes Malena

Just wanted to mention that I am one person who enjoys wearing Narciso Rodriguez For Her and does not enjoy Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely, at least not the bottle I got from an online discounter this summer. I've tried to wear Lovely a few times in different weather, and it is just off-putting at the beginning with not enough payoff later on. Also, performance is weak, like it's highly diluted. I can see the similarities between the two, but imo, Narciso For Her is WAY out of Lovely's league. To my reckoning, I would say if you tried Lovely and didn't like it, it's still worth trying Narciso Rodriguez For Her.

Edit: No offense meant to those who enjoy Lovely. I'm glad it wears well on you. <3
