Heavenly, airy, aquatic, floral. Intriguing even in winter.
Gardenia's creaminess dominates out of the floral bouquet creating icy aquatic effect with the rest of ingredients.
A beautiful companion for a humid, cloudy day.
One of my fav Amouage based on my experience with the brand.

This is very beautiful, clean and fluffy luxury expensive soap. Weak projection which I don't mind wearing around the house or at bedtime. Ciel reminds me of Chanel Beige les exclusif perfume but without aldehydes. It's skin scent for a beautiful woman, an effortlessly beautiful.

Naders29

Ciel is a gentle and light aquatic jasmine with a soapy rose in the background. The aquatic note is not harsh at all. This is not a standout nor a unique scent. Gentle floral that dries down into a straight up baby powder. It has weak projecting on my skin.

The quality is there don’t get me wrong but the scent is too soft and gentle to be an amouage production :)

RottigrlNYC

I have a brand new bottle in box. Message me if you want to buy it. I’m just not into this one anymore. I’m decluttering many of my perfumes. I have too many and most are not even used.

Mez0Nez

It starts an aquatic odor that strikes your nose when you first spray it. It soon fades into a powdery floral scent. Overall, it just smells like a powdery body lotion or cream. It has a lot of flowers in it, but they don't stand out, just traces of cyclamen and water lily, which is probably what they were trying to portray. It's not a rich floral scent, just the usual powdery nuances you'd expect from a combination of musk, cedar, amber, and sandalwood. Somewhat reminds me of less-melony Pleasure (Estee Lauder) and less-watery L'eau d'Issey (Issey Miyake) mixed. Floralozone, Cyclamen Aldehyde, Calone... Sandalwood Chemicals.

Lili1105

A beautiful indefinable heavenly introduction, which is a pity that it only lasts a few seconds and then flower after flower starts to peek out and turns green. Would I compare it to some luxurious summer shampoo? That's not meant to be an insult, quite the opposite. I like clean smells. The green scent becomes more aquatic after a while and I smell water lily and violet the most. I don't smell rose or jasmine, but I like it. Well, I have something to think about...

ech0

What a wonderful bouquet of flowers! Lily of the valley is not even mentioned in the notes but I can smell it here among others. Actually, this is the only one I recognise, the others are just good smelling flowers, whatever they are.

Petula009

Yop, this is a 20-year-old frangrance. And it shows by the initial spray. There is something very earthy that does not mix well with my skin (although, to be fair my sample is a "forgotten gem" so it could be the "age" of it). The violet leaf is most promiment. But the drydown. Oh my. Smooth and airy, yet heavy and projecting. I can't really pin point the main star note. There is just this image of white marble in my head. I wore this to bed and it put me in zen mood. Also, my boyfriend smelled a coconut after 6 hours of wearing this. So it is enveloping and the longevity is perfect.
Vibes: clean, heavier, ozonic, smooth, zen
Form: 2ml sample

I’m quite underwhelmed by Ciel on my skin so far. It stays VERY close to the skin, worse than any cologne that I’ve tried. Lasts half an hour. And its eau de parfum. Will try putting it away in a drawer for a month or two. It starts a bit screechy, but gains aquatic softness after a few minutes. I feel a salty note that stays there all the way to the dry down. But it’s not a marine kind of saltiness and freshness. More like a green pond on a very sunny day, and you overlook it from your garden eating marinated tomatoes from a jar. Or salted cucumbers. Hope that makes sense. There’s 0 sweetness here for anyone wondering.

Update: I layered it with love tuberose and somehow the combo is delicious. It neutralised some of the love tuberose’s sweetness and added a bit of freshness.

pinktoad

opening is icy white floral with a whiff of burnt toast in the background… the incense note I assume? It does change to a more pleasant aquatic bouquet, drying down to a light powder floral with vague sandalwood.

mirrorghost

i found an almost empty amouage bottle on the street. after much research, i am pretty sure it's this one. i get water lily and woods at first. it's light, clean and subtle. i think it's sandalwood i sense the most. there are hints of violet leaf and cedar as well. it's mostly a light woody floral. though not really my personal style, it's nice for spring and i am amazed to have found an amouage to try that i otherwise wouldn't have.

Biocactuse

I can feel the lotus and gardenia very clearly in this perfume. One of the rare white floral fragrances in which tuberose and jasmine notes do not predominate. In addition unlike other Amouage perfumes, it is quite suitable for general taste.

Crystalita76

Ciel 🪷
Soft and delicate water lilies and fresh cut violet leaves.
I had to take time with this fragrance.
It was not an instant like for me but my husband loves it.
It’s aquatic only from the extract of the violet leaves and the water lilies.
It’s very soft but I would not say weak.
The white musk is definitely holding this one together to keep it from being too fleeting.
It develops into a very beautiful aromatic scent.
The white florals are not detectable but that water lilies is very dominant.
I do not really get incense- amber - or sandalwood in this beauty.
It’s fresh but in a spring garden type of way.
I get at least 6-8 hours of performance but it sits closer to the skin than other Amouage fragrances.
I think this would be one fragrance that would need sampling to determine if you like it or not.
The bottle is beautiful 🤩
Warm weather suitable.
Flourishes in the sun ☀️

theLady

An easy, light song for spring. Like shampoo.

Ciel is another disappointing Amouage scent. I've found that Amouage offerings seem to oscillate between being either sublime or dismal, with very little in-between. Ciel is a wan aquatic floral, in the manner of Amouage Reflection, but worse - Ciel has a sourness from the opening, and lacks the green dewiness that somewhat alleviated the same issue in Reflection.

Ciel has a watery opening, with no perceivable gardenia or cyclamen at all - instead it is populated by a watery suggestion of violet, and something akin to thin, synthetically sweet freesia. The florals become slightly metallic.

As it develops, water lily and a hint of sweet peach emerge, but are very faint. It fades to a watery, musky drydown with no incense or woody notes at all. It is aquatic all right - flat and watery throughout. Sillage and longevity are also poor.

Irredeemably dull and lifeless, Ciel is a name that is only apt on a dark, drizzly, grey day. Not at all worthy of Amouage or its price. Hard pass. 1/5.

Holliebobollie

I love Amouage. This is a very beautiful shampoo scent. A big ‘like’ from me. Very much enjoying my 2ml sample but I won’t spend the money on a bottle as there is about 100 perfumes I’d rather have. Would be lovely for a daytime scent for an older women in your life. A safe blind buy for a lovely soft floral.

-Nondescript white floral.
-Leans a tad soapy.
-Overall, a scent reminiscent of luxurious shampoo. (-)

nahmpunch

Simply expensive soap

Phantomias

Some reviewers have called this fragrance delicate, and they are right. I never thought Amouage had anything so insubstantial in their repertoire, but there's Ciel.
A faint musky floral with poor performance and outrageously priced, C. is nothing like the powerhouses Amouage used to make.

MissAleksandra

To me it smells like a heavily soaped, fresh skin. It’s strong on the musk and white flowers and it’s a very feminine fragrance, but it has a vintage quality to it, it reminds me of fragrances from years ago. The longevity is great, but it’s quite a flat fragrance - it doesn’t change from the moment you spray it to when it dries down on the skin. I’m not impressed, but it’s a well made scent and I would recommend it to those who like the creamy soapiness on their skin.

federico.rev

One of the most flat fragrance ever smelled. From the opening till the dry down i only got some animal musk with a cashmeran note non listed, similar to the one in Blossom Love.
No gardenia, rose, jasmine, sandalwood, INCENSE: where exactly ??
Looking at the price tag it seems a joke, i wouldn't pay 5€ for it.

SailorV

This is a lovely floral aquatic. To my nose this is not so much a white floral as it is the scent of refreshing water flowers. Waterlily and cyclamen are the most important parts of this for sure. Transparent and slightly sweet.
Musk plays another significant role in this, it's the base the aquatic notes float on. It's a clean, white musk, a little bit like a more refined version of the musk in Cacharel Noa. Surprisingly this has a warm, almost cinnamon-like background hum, which must come from the sandalwood.
After a while the scent's texture takes a slight turn from watery to creamy, but still in a very pure, light way.
This is not an oceanic salty scent, it has more of a freshwater vibe, very relaxing and zen.
It feels like you just showered without smelling like any product you would use in the shower. Soapy in a good way.

Is it too expensive? Sure, all Amouages are, but they are also found at more reasonable discount prices often. And I think if you really love pure, feminine scents that convey the feeling of resting by a calm lake full of waterlilies, it can be worth it. Not every luxury scent has to be heavy. I personally wouldn't buy Ciel, but it's a very well-done, pleasant, dreamlike perfume with moderate performance.

hfigures

Ciel reminds me of S.Dali Laguna and Laguna Maravilla. I thought aquatics were weird in earlier purchases, but they're just being aquatics. I'm glad I got a deal on my blind buy 50 ml bottle of Ciel otherwise I would be feeling some kind of way about it. I find Ciel more refined and just a tad sweeter than the Lagunas. I like to wear this type of fragrance in the cool, crisp weather of Spring or where Summer is mild which suits this fresh, clean, floral fragrance.

brumbarche

The aquatic element is not my favorite part here, and it stops me from moving from "too 90's" to a firm like. I have happy heart Clinique and I'm going to use this for now when I care for that cyclamen note. With Ciel though, the quality is outstanding. Could become cloying. Especially in humid weather.

danygurl06

Ciel is a delicate aquatic floral. I would put this under the category of effortlessly elegant and feminine fragrances. It just smells pretty and clean while being easy breezy. I get a similar feeling with Prada La Femme. The scent profile smells so familiar but I don’t know any perfume that actually smells like this.

Upon initial spray, I smell a lot of magnolia with watery notes. At first, it smells like your hands after you have washed with some pretty fragrant liquid hand soap. When it dries down, I can no longer pinpoint a particular floral and it’s gets creamy like a creamy lotion.

It’s a very pretty smell. It has no sharp edges which usually keeps me away from florals. The intensity of this fragrance is just right. It is the same intensity you would get if you used a soap or lotion rather than spraying yourself. The best part is that it is sweet without being sugary sweet.

As much as I like it, it’s hard to justify the price for such a common smelling yet nicely done fragrance.

Update: I snagged a bottle off the grey market. I can live with paying the discounted price. I haven’t been able to find this type of fragrance without all the “ugly” facets that are just too much for me or smell dated. So it only makes sense to purchase what I actually love.

giggle_butt

Overwhelmingly pleasant, innocent, and pure. Ciel is highly likable and people will enjoy it. Wear it when you want to be refined, polite, and well-mannered. This is THE definition of classic feminine spring.

Overall this is an aquatic floral that is backed up with white florals to give it some texture. This is purely feminine spring, fresh, floral, aquatic, and clean.

Cyclamen is heavily featured in the top notes, and that seems to be where the non-ordinary comes from. It can be a bit unguided at first but within a few minutes it starts playing along nicely with the other notes. Gardenia, water-lily, and jasmine are the true heart of this, making it a light fresh-floral perfume when all is said and done.

This one is sensitive to body chemistry: On my skin, this seems to gravitate towards being a very delicate white floral after 30 minutes, although I totally could understand 'expensive vintage soap' as well.

Final verdict: I'm not sure who this is for: Those that want a fresh, clean aquatic floral may be disappointed with the white floral scent they get instead. Those that want a white floral may feel the aquatic notes while nice, sacrifice the performance they'd get elsewhere. And if you simply want an airy, fresh, feminine floral, which this is, you can at the very least get the same performance for a lower price.

Will I use up my decant? Absolutely!
Would I consider buying? No way.

UPDATE: I actually do really like this, it's just not worth the Amouage price tag.

dsmercoco

This to me smells like blue skies and sunshine. It does remind me of luxurious body lotion. Lots of aldehydes in the opening but it gives way to the cyclamen and gardenia with white musk in the softest possible way. This projects but it's not aggressive. Longevity is good but it becomes a skin scent after a few hours enveloping you in a bubble of clear skies with puffy white clouds. I dont think it smells dated. It's a fun, delicate soft woods and white floral. Absolutely beautiful and it's a shame they've discontinued this gem.
P.S. I adore Dia pour femme by Amouage too. Ciel shares a few notes with Dia and they do smell similar in the opening but then they differ. Dia is more about the white musk and soft incense. Ciel plays up the gardenia and the musk is downplayed. I cant smell the incense at all in Ciel.

FreddyK

My girlfriend just bought this one. Very nice smell for beautiful women.

savvyminx

I live on a farm next to a tranquil lake with white and yellow water lilies. I was just paddling around in my kayak while my daughters played in the lake, one of them picked a white bloom and swam to my boat to give it to me, and I can firmly attest this perfume smells exactly like water lilies. I smelled the flower and it was so familiar, then I realized I'd put on Ciel before heading out on the lake.

This is a softer, more subdued sister to Love Tuberose, delicate and personal, and a photoreal ode to water lily.

stacia79

This is very light and fluffy, just like white clouds in a blue afternoon sky. The floral component I smell most noticeably is gardenia, but it is a very milky creamy light musk of a gardenia. There are dewy wet notes surrounding it. This is sooooo different than any other Amouage I have tried. It's downright shy.

Kots_Tanya

I wanted to try this one for a while and finally bought a sample, aaaaaand it really does smell dated so I see why it would get discontinued. It’s soapy floral fragrance. And yes I agree it totally giving me older hotel soap vibes. The more I smell it the more I think of it. Something I imagine older ladies 65+ would wear may be. As all amouage the longevity and sillage is great.

SalinasL

Scanning previous reviews while wearing the fragrance, I see words like “aquatic,” “green,” “floral,” creamy.” To me, Ciel is none of those things. It’s baby powder through and through. Scanning further I see someone comparing it to hotel soap, and I think that’s accurate. It has that impersonal, generic, dated hotel smell. I’ve enjoyed it at times, but there are other baby powder type scents I prefer far more and which cost far less. Body chemistry probably plays a big role with this one. I’m not sure I will even use up my sample.

Edit 2023: This does smell like powder, maybe not like baby powder but the white powder my mom had in a pink tub with a poof (it might be exactly the same powder but it’s invoking a different feeling/image to me now). Still not getting much green or aquatic notes, except for a hint of a lotus-y water lily in the first few minutes. Then the violet takes over and I wish it would stay the way it was at the beginning. I appreciate it more now, over three years later, but even at discounted prices it seems so expensive for what it is.

osy2017

Ciel is very aery, fresh, and uplifting fragrance. Smells like being outdoors in spring time on a sunny blue sky day. It will work great for Spring and Summer time, at least this is when I plan using it.

missk

Amouage Ciel for Women is a fragrance from this house that you don't hear much about. The average department store tends to stock only the best sellers from the line, so it was a task and a half finding a store that stocks Ciel for Women. Now that I have finally had the pleasure of smelling this fragrance, I am surprised that it isn't more popular.

Amouage Ciel for Women is a beautiful, crisp fresh-floral. It shares a similar vibe to Reflection for Women, without the metallic note found in the latter. The most dominant notes to my nose include water lily, cyclamen, gardenia, sandalwood, cedar and musk.

This fragrance is perfect for Spring and Summer, and I eagerly await the change in seasons so I can enjoy Ciel for Women on the skin. Many Amouage fragrances can be tricky to wear, yet in the case of Amouage Ciel for Women, it could easily appeal to a wider audience. The lack of availability is perhaps its biggest downfall.

This fragrance borders on aquatic, especially towards the base where the cedar and musk provide a 'beachy-oceanic' vibe. However, for the most part, Amouage Ciel for Women is a lush, dew-kissed floral with an icy, refreshing aroma.

Summers, where I live, can be scorching and at times, neverending. A refreshing, long-lasting floral fragrance like this combats the heat beautifully. Amouage Ciel for Women can easily last several hours on the skin and is a pleasant change from the cheap aquatics and thick fruity florals that everyone else chooses to wear at this time of year.

Sadly, discounts on Amouage Ciel for Women are hard to come by, so it might be some time before I can add this fragrance to my Summer wardrobe.

black_orchid

This is nice creamy floral but nothing groundbreaking. Go for Pleasure by Estee Lauder.

theuntrainednose

I don't know which formulation I am wearing, it's a sample decant I won at a giveaway here (thanks olgaolga18).

It's a cloudy cool summer day here. On me, in this weather, Ciel is an elegant and classy white floral. Balanced between the heavier creamy gardenia and the fresher cyclamen, it is serene and well-done. Has some lotion-y notes, or expensive toilette soap.

It's not a "wow" fragrance for me, but it's a well designed classy floral that works in most situations.

Birnam_Wood

The top shows an honest attempt to copy the vivid smell of a flower with crushed green stem——but that’s about it. The only “niche” part of the perfume ends after the top is gone.

What’s left are indistinguishable aquatic floral notes, remind me of a mass-market perfume Shi by Alfred Sung. I have to admit, Ciel lasts longer.

Neia

Smells almost exactly like Saint Tropez self tanning lotion. I love the smell. Fresh and summery.
But I do understand the many disappointed reactions. This isn't near as exclusive, complex and "full" as one gets accustomed to when it comes to Amouage.
And no matter how much I love this, I wouldn't say it's actually worth its price. It just isn't that special.

HOUSTONHOUSTON

Smells CHEAP.
Good example of a situation when price does not mean quality.
Did not expect it from this house. If I would not know it is Amouage I would think it is "impression of' a cheap celebrity drugstore cheapie.
Reviewing official sample from fragrancenet. Either it is a fake sample or it is just a 100% fail from amouage. If you are planning to blind buy your first amouage, choose something else. You might be very disappointed. I am glad I tried dia before ciel. Dia worth its price.

DulciusExAsperis

A clean, somewhat aquatic-feeling greenish-white floral without much projection.

Dries to a light and sweetly floral musk. I do like it. I get the peach blossom and musk more than others seem to, which is nice.

In a nutshell: exceedingly pleasant and fresh/sweet but not mind-blowing. I would like it more if it were stronger. But then that would change the character of the fragrance, so.

I tested this today right after a shower following a sweaty workout and I think this is the exact right situation for this fragrance. When you've felt grungy and you want to feel like a dewy fresh water nymph instead.

updated to add: this seems to have barely any longevity, at least on me. three hours later and it's imperceptible - disappointing for an Amouage IMO.

LateBloomer

I have an old, half-full, tester bottle of this that I picked up dirt cheap at a local perfume shop a couple of weeks ago. This baby has had a rough life - the bottle is chipped, the label is faded...the owner of the shop acquires his goods by going to estate sales, flea markets, and close-outs, so who knows where this bottle came from or how old it is. I picked up a sample of the current Ciel pour Femme and hoped my bottle matched up.

After trying it for a few days, I find it to consist of soft, watery florals with hints of creamy wood and soapy undertones. My bottle has better longevity than the sample, but maybe it's the difference in applicators (atomizer vs wand). The sample has a bit more definition in the different notes, while the bottle's is slightly blurred - if that makes sense, but the fragrance is the same. (Yay!) To me, Ciel pour Femme is serene and elegant. A lovely perfume that would be perfect for any occasion.

Bubbles1964

I think the reviews swing widely because this may have been reformulated. My manufacturer’s sample was purchased off fragrancenet so guessing this is from the most recent formulation with the magnetic cap,

With that said, this is a rather dull floral aquatic on my skin. In fact, I pick up cheap synthetic materials, although presented in a gentle way, but still kind of surprising because this is Amouage. Magnolia is forward followed by violet leaf which is persistent throughout the life of this perfume.

There’s nothing unique or the usual trademark Amouage quality about my sample. If you are interested in floral aquatics, I would search for the original Oman formula.

Fragrance -Ciel Pour Femme Amouage
Bottle from - 2016

Ciel opens on my skin with a fresh, watery and green bouquet of flowers with dominant waterlily, gardenia and cyclamen.
As time goes by,during mid development, waterlily becomes stronger with a nice touch of a slightly sweet and fruity peach blossom and with the tender trace of romantic jasmine.
This all leads into a musky, floral and woody base with a wisper of a bit mysterious frankincense.
This fragrance reminds me of a positive and confident woman.

Ciel
Perfect hot weather scent. Its light yet substantial and the similarities to an old favorite of mine...Vintage Eau De Givenchy. If you cant find that gem anymore, Amouage comes in with something close in feel. Im excited to find a gem like this for spring/summer. A beautiful fresh floral.

chanka

Last summer i entered myve only one niche perfume store in my city(there are many niche perfumes online where i live almost all of them and good price) so I entered took first bottle i saw to test some amouage and went out and couldn’t believe what a great scent
Got a sample of it and i love it, always get compliments
For me it is luxury clean smell
I feel there camomile and on the first spray little bit cardamom (not listed)
Definitely buying whole bottle...
Perfect for summer

NewYorkLady2015

Apologies to everyone who loves this but I am very very underwhelmed and even bored. Uninteresting aquatic floral that at least to me has nothing special.
On my skin it turns into a generic bar soap smell from the drugstore pretty fast.
Expected much more from a house like Amouage...

Edit: Dries down to a cheap hairspray smell, ugh :( must be the musk overdose

iobhai

You're a butterfly, the white pieris rapae, fluttering on a soft breeze. It's a cool morning, but the sun is peeking out to warm your delicate wings as you fly between dew-soaked water lilies, violets, and gardenias. Some gentle winds pass through the swaying trees of the woods nearby and over the other waking insects towards you, and as you look up at the blue sky, you haven't a care in the world. Ciel Woman by Amouage.

ayh210

This is such a happy floral fragrance, not too overpowering or cloyingly sweet, which is my main issue with a lot of floral fragrances. The florals are tempered by the ozonic musk. I really enjoyed this one! Adding it to my want/buy list.
8.5/10

Soofiya

Amouage perfumes are very popular where I live and their tester bottles are available in a lot of perfume shops so I've tried a lot of them for couple of times but there was always two exception:dia and ciel.these two were always unavailable but finally I found them and SA was kind enough to decant a tiny sample of ciel for me.he asked me which one I want to be decanted I said ciel by mistake!I meant to say dia as I'm into aldehydes and powdery florals but I mistake their names.imagine my sadness when I came home and checked fragrantica
I was sure that I'm going to hate ciel as I dislike aquatic, ozonic scents.I also own reflection which I thought I like at first but then I cane to the point that it's not for me,it's too aqauatic and green for me but green scents are more bearable than ozonic ones
I dabbed ciel and waited for violet leaf and calon to showup and make me ill but instead of them there was gardenia, jasmine and musk.I love this combination!there's no violet leaf ir calon whatsoever.well I can pickup something that must be waterlily, something watery but it's not bad. It's a warm, floral watery thing which is actually calming.
I was waiting for an unwelcomed note to showup and ruin all this beauty but instead,a lovely creamy peach blossom showed up
I agree ciel is different from typical amouage perfumes but I'm happy with that.I'm glad to see that amouage can make also non arabic, non heavy and modern perfumes.I couldnt find any option to love among amouages.well I like some of them like honour, memoir and first opus but I become more intrested in this brand after trying sunshine, lilac love and now ciel.I'm also looking forward to try dia and that pink cute new one with it's promising lovely notes
Lets not go far from subject,I thought lilac love would be my first amouage choice in my wishlist but now I think I'd put ciel first as it would be great for spring and summer and it's so good that I can't stop sniffing myself
I'm still waiting for it's drydown as amouage perfumes arent linear and go through several stages but by far(three hours after application)it's still lovely and my type.this musky gardenia, jasmine can easily win over me.it's also very familiar
Ciel is clean, tender, pure, transparent, airy, light, inoffensive and feminine.beautiful and calming like sitting beside a lake, putting your legs in it's mild water, letting warm spring sun to touch your face and enhaling deeply fresh breeze carrying the scent of flowers and glowing lake and clam, clean nature
I wish it stays as beautiful for long hours so that I can add it to my wishlist(though my pocket has opposit wishes)

I bought some samples of Amouage - what a rush!
ciel to me is absolute luxury. The most elegant, sensuelle and teasing scent I ever felt. Its light - but powerful, its there - and gone, dancing around you. Its like the lightest breeze over your skin - and its like a stormwind to my senses. I can't stop sniffing my own skin. Beautifully, flowery scent - and after a while I start thinking - Chamomille? -not listed. It is a transparant scent but powerful - I can't explain what I'm feeling - but sure - I'm head over heels in love. totally in love with Ciel. My wallet screams - I don't listen -this is a must have-scent.

This has been my signatue scent for years now and it's interesting how differently the reviews for this seem to come out especially countrywise. Here in the English speaking parts of the world this scent is mostly disliked or people don't see anything special about it.
In Western Europe and also Asia it is liked or even loved much better because obviously more people prefer soft, subtle scents instead of heavy sweet "in your face"-scents.

How does it smell for me? I smell white fresh flowers, gardenia and a soft light cream note,I smell a light, not too sweet peach and water lily, and in the drydown, there is a soft sweet amber note, pampering, comforting, still accompanied by the soft freshness of withe flowers, especially the gardenia.

So, for my nose this is the perfect scent. I have many other great perfumes in my collection, many of them I like or love, but none can top "Ciel" for me.

It also is the only scent I always (and without fail) get compliments from both, women and man, and many women asked me over the years what the wonderful scent is that I'm wearing.

EDIT: Unfortunately, after the CEO of Amouage in Europe changed and obviously had the idea to take everything that made the Oman-based Amouage scents so special away to instead make them smell more "western" and "modern", unfortunately they also changed my beloved "Ciel". The notes are slighty different in the new bottles with silver cap, the scent is somewhat flat and stuffy now, the freshness is gone. Also, the old bottles had a durability of 10+ hours,. The scent in the new bottle is completely gone within 2 hours. The high price tag of over 300$ reamains though but I will not rebuy this newer version as I feel it is ruined. Very sad as it was a uniquely beautiful scent.

EDIT II (2023) : I have no official confirmation about this but obviously Amouage decided to go back to the previous high perfume quality at some point in the past few years.
2017-18 I had my last bottel of 'Ciel' and at that time it was 'made in the UK' and the list of ingredients was way too long with many scent enhancers and few real perfume oils in it.
Lately I bought another Amouge scent - 'Blossom Love' and was amazed when I got the scent as the box stated now 'made in Oman' again, and also the ingredient list was way shorter again with no scent enhancers and like back in the days, high quality perfume oils.
The scent was deep and rich and the longevity was also enhanced again, one little spray on my wrist lasted on m sleve for 5 days.
I gave it a ty and ordered 'Ciel' and alas, it's the same, 'Made in Oman' and the scent is back to its original beauty and quality. I'm really happy to have it in my collection again in the original quality version.

I think this one can be very easy to use.No complexity at all.Nice, pleasant and watery flower dominated on me.Nothing exciting at all.Too plain and a bit heady.I prefer Dia over this.

Ditta70 has a good review below mine. I'm not sure which formulation I have, but it was a carded sample, so not sure if UK or Oman. But, this is rose, lily-aquatic, and what I would think of "lilac" though the essence is supposedly quite hard to distill. But this is a light, summery aquatic scent and the "sky=Ciel" is an appropriate moniker. I don't find it compelling. It's not a scrubber, but it's not my style, nor is it what I think of when I consider "Amouage"--but they have to break out of the rose-oud-amber tradition they have established and this does so with its "sky-like" open airy aspect.

It has good silage and good longevity (the others in the Amouage line are longer-lasting), and this is pleasant. I think this will appeal to "modern" tastes and is "feminine" whatever that means to people, and it has a "clean" sensibility. There is nothing distinguishing about this though. It's just light and bright, better than many in the genre, and better than many main-stream frags, but not exceptional. To those who like lilac frags, this is more lilac than their recent Amouage release to me, or at least it is complimentary.

Some fragrance addicted acquaintances asked me to test 4 different samples of this perfume and compare them. (There was a doubt of authenticity.)

Now, I must admit, I hated all of them. I found Ciel an exeptionally unpleasant, harsh concoction. Now the info to all the lovers of this scent: out of the 4 samples two were made in Oman, and two in the UK. The Omani versions, though still unpleasant, were way better, with better quality ingredients, more harmoniously put together. They indeed had some nice, creamy gardenia and pleasant cyclamen goodness to them, in the frame of acquatic and woody notes. The UK versions were harsher, the ingredients smelled much more synthetic and cheap, the composition was disharmonious. They were way woodier, and in general reminded me of hairspray or cheap drugstore perfume.

If you like this perfume, definitely try to find a bottle made in Oman and steer clear of the UK made monstrosity.

Otherwise in my book this is 2/10 UK and 3/10 Oman.

amirali0072000

This is definitely a high class scent.
The base notes are all detectable and intertwined and delicious. especially the woman's variant..Very interesting...I love it!

Ciel does not ignite anything inside of me. It is an aquatic floral that actually smells a lot more like magnolia than any of the other notes. The scent is sweet with a slightly sharp green floral note. It is all rather vague. I do not detect any incense in the drydown. If Amouage sold this for $95 and called it Eau Florale, I think it would make a lot more sense, but for a perfume that costs three times that, there is much left to be desired. For those who love this perfume, I would suggest trying ElizabethW Magnolia.

Aquatic florals are probably my favourite kind of perfume, and this is the nicest aquatic floral I've ever tried. It's also my first Amouage. Only problem is, now I really want a full bottle and at Amouage prices, I can keep dreaming!

This is unashamedly feminine and beautifully ethereal. It really suits its name (Ciel means sky).

The opening is quite green, thanks to the violet leaf, but it never gets tangy, the way many green perfumes can. There's nothing sharp about this, it's all soft curves and fluffy clouds.

I'm sure I detect lotus, although it's not listed here. The water lily and cyclamen are especially prominent - I wish so much that more perfumes would use those notes because they're beautiful.

There's a hint of sweetness (mostly due to the violet), but it's very subtle and never becomes a full on sweet perfume.

The base notes sound like they'd clash with the top and heart notes, but they actually work very well with it. They add a warmth, but never overpower the pretty florals. This becomes a little musky in the dry down, but its fairly linear apart from that.

This one is dreamy days flying a kite through a peaceful meadow, stopping by a crystalline lake to dip your toes in. I love it.

Moderate sillage, 8-10 hours longevity.

dfirefly

Light fragrance, but overpowered by VIOLET! Lasted a long time, but always smelled like VIOLET! For someone either very young, who wants a light, sweet, uncomplicated fragrance, or someone older, who wants to remember getting bouquets of violets from her admirers.

nanarachib

I don't find this very airy, very musky and a light pleasant smell! the price is a bit spicy, probably you could find a cheaper alternative, but the Amouage bottles are a must for all the collectors :)

onaona

I need Ciel.

Not just for the heartbreakingly beautiful water lily, musk combination....and believe me, it is unmatched. Not just because the longevity is phenomenal on my skin....it is both subtle and tenacious. If those were the only reasons, they would be enough.

Those are not the only reasons.

I need Ciel because it is ultra feminine against my skin, especially on days when I have had to be anything but.

I need it to remind myself complexity can be found in what appears simple on the surface.

I need it for the same indefinable reason I seem to need blush inspiring lingerie, silly little dresses, high strappy sandals....

I need it because it makes me feel soooo damned pretty! :)

majestic mammy

A soft gentle white floral with green notes. Subtle calming very gentle and pretty. I adore the hand lotion and hand & body cream. I find ceil cream and lotion is easy to blend with and parfum

spidola

Ciel is soft, pleasant, generic water flowers perfume, where lacks the wonderful “extra” that would justify the “extra” that we actually see in price.

HoneyBoots1

Starts as a brisk blast of insect repellant. Then moves to a scent reminiscent of a certain type of hotel soap or as someone else said, a long forgotten less expensive scent. At the back a muguet odor that is quite pleasant. Preferable to Gold for certain.

PricklyAndHot

Most of all I feel the water lily notes, cyclamen, violet leaves, musk and sandalwood notes. Nearly the same type like Dia. Simple and characterless, especially for its price. Dislike(

freddinos

Nice and safe 'watery' (but not watered down) floral perfume, with very realistic (i.e. non synthetic at all!) notes. I can see a floral person being happy to pay top $$ for Ciel, but for my oriental-loving nose my money will be spent on something heavier. Would work very well as a bridal perfume.
Thank you MrsLetterO for the generous sample!

meligonlan

Save your money nothing special. Just likeable.

Chocobaby

This s such a well blended fragrance. Starts off bright with jasmine and violet leaves, then dies down quite fast to a soft powderiness. The gardenia peeks through and then everything lies close to the skin with a warm muskiness. It reminds me a little of Talco Delicato but this is much softer. As it stays close to the skin, I can see this as an all purpose fragrance. It can be worn anywhere without offending anyone. Feminine and soft, scent of an angel (well said, rickyrebarco).

serchina

Soft floral with prominant gardenia, but definitely well-balanced together with the jasmine, water-lilly and other flowers. Soft and elegant floral for day wear. Very feminine, but not my cup of tea.

Jayela

Really? That much sillage?? Shame. Any thougts??

rickyrebarco

Finally an Amouage to love! This scent is simply glorious, it would make angels sing glorias. In fact I think angels would wear it. This is a watery white floral but in the very best sense, using flowers that live in or near the water like the water lily. This is the first fragrance using gardenia that I have ever smelled where the gardenia does not dominate but is perfectly blended.

This is an amazing scent and I agree with the first reviewer that it is composed in the Middle Eastern fashion with the florals balanced by musk, sandalwood and amber with a bit of spice. This fragrance is just sheer perfection to me, glorious, exalting.

If you really spend some time with this one you will recognize the differences from Western white florals, which do not normally use cyclamen and water lily. Those 2 scents are just different enough to make the whole perfume feel unique and sing its own beautiful melody. If there is a heaven I feel sure this is what it will smell like.

9-na

One of my watery scents. Smells of seashores or of bogs. The scent of rot, sun, dampness and joy of life, in its wonderful frenzy, and the joy of being warm through and through thanks to that sun. The food chain it is: someone dies, someone's about to get eaten, and life does not stop, even for a sec. I like it, but can't really say that I'm in love with it.

Printeza7

I absolutely adore this fragrance!Gardenia makes a "grande" entrance and what an adorable smell! I can detect also the jasmin, not much of the rose, but is just beautiful fragrance! One of my favourite parfums!
Also it lasts very long on my skin! I am tottaly in love!

sablebombe

Sadly, this one did not work on me :( I got loads and loads and loads of gardenia and virtually nothing else - must be my skin chemistry!

Gave it away to someone else who is very, very, happy with it....!!!

sherapop

I have to admit that upon spritzing on Amouage CIEL POUR FEMME, I was deeply unimpressed but at the same time surprised. I had simply presumed that with a name like "sky" this would open with a bright burst of aldehydes along the lines of DIA. Not so.

CIEL is a low-key perfume with low-sillage florals which almost seem to be dessicated, as there's a texture here of dried grass or hay. Somehow, though, I like the mix. I believe that I detect an amalgamation of dried water lily, lotus, and cyclamen, but not much else asserts itself. There is not a huge amount of development, but as I continue to sniff this composition and grow more accustomed to it I must say that it starts to hold a sort of appeal. Unfortunately it also reminds me of some long forgotten perfume (at a much lower price point...), so I cannot say that CIEL is in any sense new or exceptional.

Nice enough to wear and likely to be inoffensive to anyone in the vicinity.

update: I remembered what this reminds me a bit of: EAU BELLE D'AZZARO...

Action

This is a beautiful fragrance!! It is a sister to Tendre Jasmin by Yves Rocher.
Gorgeous!

mr63

It reminds me Donna Karan Be Delicious but not so chemical is is more gentle and soft. sounds good but nothing too special for Amouage

Maugli

very pale floral reminicent of a bleak copy of a copy of Guerlains L'Instant. Definately not what you 'd expect from Amouage - no luxury in here...

tommy_girl

"Ciel" in french means "sky".if you look at the bottle and you know just a bit about middle east culture you know that it's made by middle east perfumers.
the flacon is like a mosque and the color of blue is the color of spritual in eastern culture.it doesn't look at earth.the top of flacon is to the sky.
the interesting point to me is that it's suitable for every day use which means every female can keep the spritual side of herself in every occasions.
about the notes,it's all about flowers.violet leaf has made it a bit green at the first sniff.not overwhelming or powdery at all(despite amouage gold & dia),very transparent, feminine, sweet, luxury and nice.the fresh floral scents make it a good choice for srping.there are some aquatic notes which must be because of lotus.
despite the top & middle notes there isn't any trace of flowers in the base notes.amber & musk are known as fragrances in orient for years.so the perfumer has followed the ancient formulas.
the price is a bit high, but me as a middle-eastern girl like to have it,as it satisfies my taste.
