Or de Calambac by Chopard is a Amber Spicy fragrance for women and men. Or de Calambac was launched in 2019. The nose behind this fragrance is Alberto Morillas. Top notes are Star Anise and Pink Pepper; middle notes are Hazelnut, Cacao, Tonka Bean, Cinnamon and Juniper; base notes are Laotian Oud, Myrhh, Vetiver, Guaiac Wood, Agarwood (Oud), Labdanum and Cypress.

With Or de Calambac, the Master Perfumer frees himself from the history of oud by reinventing it and giving it the colors, energy, and tastes of lush Latin America and its great seducers. He has imagined an epicurean oud, from whence Oud Assafi radiates all the wealth of the land where spices and noble ingredients are born to fill in the senses. After envisioning this oud discovering the New World, Alberto Morillas brings it back, redolent with a luxuriance of new smells and tastes.

"I imagined Or de Calambac as an avant-garde oud freed from its historical heritage, traveling to the borders of a new continent and immersing itself in a territory that it has never explored before. A gourmet and epicurean oud with warm and cold gold glints that is addictive; that seduces and is savored through all the nuances of hot and fresh spices like cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, and pepper; gourmet notes like cocoa, tonka bean, and vanilla; and the warm, woody notes of vetiver and gaiac wood. These raw materials evoke to me all the natural riches of South America and the history of the trade routes on which they voyaged around the world." - Alberto Morillas, Master Perfumer

I figured what it reminds me of, No Limit$, less sweet and with the quality oud that this line has. A cocoa leathery oud that opens nutty and oily, a bit weird.
Not a monster projector but the oud is authentic and the fragrance is very long lasting. The drydown is more resinous, you can clearly smell the myrrh giving it a unsweetened amber vibe and something smoky like a fireplace. I don't like these types of fragrances, too oriental for my taste, but the quality is 100% there, I feel like it’s incomplete… it’s all about a semi gourmand ode to oud and myrrh but fails at having something that will grab your attention and make you buy it, unfortunately blindly I did.

The green nuances; notably the hazelnut and cypress (which I get right in the opening) feel a bit unwelcome in what is otherwise a pleasant warm amber with a lovely subtle leather accord from the labdanum and oud. The ‘green’ hazelnut note suits scents like Jo malone oak and hazelnut but in here it feels somewhat misplaced. Thankfully it tapers off after 30 mins. The pink pepper in the opening gives this a good amount of spark, paired with the juniper and vetiver offering an aromatic quality, contrasting the gourmand notes. I’m not sure if it needs to do both, and in my opinion feels like it’s trying to please too many tastes by going in two different directions when it would excel as a stand-alone amber/gourmand with a heavier dose of notes like cinnamon and cacao etc. hell maybe even more oud.
The dry-down settles on myrh, labdanum, and oud which I like.

It’s very wearable but isn’t groundbreaking and only just misses the mark for me. Bears resemblance to Monarch boadicea and Halfeti in the sparkling-warm-spicy department. Longevity is good and projection is average

20 minutes of the first spray will not make you very happy. Afterwards, it is as if you smelled the branch of a broken tree in the forest, which distinguishes it from other wood smells. It is not a fragrance for everyone. Do not buy without trying.

Tons of myrrh, oud, cypress, labdanum. Sweet hazelnut and vanilla. Green notes of cypress and juniper. It took me a while to understand this scent. I gave it to my husband because I thought it was nicer on a man. Until I decided that the trail of scent is so beautiful I need to give it another chance on my skin. I had changed my initial review. This scent is gorgeous and ethereal and I need another bottle!

Sophisticated and pleasing woody gourmand scent. The scent opens with slight pink pepper, star anise and cinnamon and moves to a heart of cacao, hazelnut, juniper berries and tonka. It settles on a woody bed of vetiver, labdanum, guaiac, myrrh and slight Oud. Sweet inoffensive and surprisingly soft in spite of several dense notes, which are used very sparingly. Easy to wear but also not particularly a stand out. Enjoy!

Oh my lord. To me, this smells like Mexican hot chocolate with oud! 😍 I love it. I wear this all year round even in summer and it does not get cloying at all. Excellent fragrance

In the vein of L’Artisan’s Mechant Loup and Fou d’Absinthe, but with a juniper note and definitely oud. It’s spicy, the way myrrh turns cocoa notes dense and powdery (psychedelic love; Valentina myrrh, CH myrrh absolute…). The Star Anise note furthers this spicy myrrh feel, but isn’t distinguishable - it’s well blended. The gourmand aspect feels thick and nutty from the raw hazelnut paste as in givenchy l’interdit rouge (none of its flowers are to be found here; and you won’t find roasted hues in the “raw hazelnut paste”). The “sour wood” aspect from byredo’s oud immortel is here too. “Sour” not as in “unpleasant”, but in the same way it feels in JHAG Another Oud feels oudy but bright. I can feel a pinch of ambroxan too (it’s everywhere nowadays - they don’t even bother mentioning it anymore in the pyramids I guess).
Mixing JHAG Another Oud with Mechant Loup won’t recreate the scent, but in terms of texture, density, gourmand sour oud unisex feel - it explains it for me. I if you hate all these perfumes, you either may end up unimpressed by Or de Calambac, or end up liking them too.

@tandem_4x4 It is a gourmand fragrance and the most wearable of them four. Very likable, well blended and opulent but nothing ground-breaking. The performance is moderate.

is it too oudy?
