Idylle by Guerlain is a Floral fragrance for women. Idylle was launched in 2009. The nose behind this fragrance is Thierry Wasser. Top notes are Tincture of Rose, Freesia, Litchi and Raspberry; middle notes are Lily-of-the-Valley, Jasmine, Lilac, Peony and Lily; base notes are Musk and Patchouli.

Idylle is the latest creation by Guerlain for mainstream distribution, introduced in September 2009. It has been created by Thierry Wasser and it is the first fragrance he created in his position as the succeeder of Jean-Paul Guerlain. This is how Wasser describes this beautiful floral perfume:

"It started with a rose. The rose was a blend of Bulgarian roses, the 2008 harvest being fruity, with overtones of raspberry and litchee. To this blend was added the Plessis Robinson rose, created by Jean-Paul Guerlain out of love for the past – an old rose with fruity accents and a pungent fragrance. This, in turn, was mingled with a chypre harmony, emblematic of Guerlain, composed of patchouli and white musk, selected for its warmth. And lastly came the bouquet that complemented the roses to perfection: lily-of-the-valley, lilac, peony, freesia and jasmine. And so the fragrance was born: a shower of flowers, of petals, of subtle yet incisive freshness, balanced by sensuality. A nectar of flowers, an ode to life and love, in the warm light of radiant jasmine and the darker warmth of chypre, to express an ambiguity of feeling, and musk, like the scent of cashmere on the skin, a comfortable, intimate, physical sensation. In this combination of the personal, sensual, emotional facet of chypre, and the physical aspect of musk, and the declaration of love with the bouquet of flowers, the inexpressible idea was expressed, tender and ethereal, sensuous and romantic, fleeting and eternal."

Oh nooo... is this another discontinued gem? I was just looking on ebay for something else and saw the prices for this and realised it is discontinued. I still have half a bottle of the old one because I loved it so much and was afraid to use it up, is about 50ml left then I remember a few years ago I bought another bottle and it was not the same design. What is wrong with these people changing the design of bottles to cheap generic ones?
The scent is amazing, light and elegant and can be day or night... ethereal and lasts for ever, projects amazingly... fills the room if that is what you are after. I am.
I think I will buy a couple of overpriced bottles now just to never be without this gem.

I got a mini in a gift set. I'm allergic to something in this and it makes my skin itchy. Itching after a day... This is too clean and too mainstream for Guerlain - I love their scents uniqueness.

zmuciamareto

How lovely is this!
I remember when it came out back in 2009, I fell in love instantly and was planning to buy it, then a friend got it as a present but did not like it so we did a swap ☺️💐 I got Idylle and she got Hypnose Lancome.
14 years later, I found it again in the tear drop bottle with the golden cap and couldn't resist re-purchasing.
I associate this scent with clear, bright, spring day; a gorgeous bouquet of tender flowers, youth, happiness and glamour.
It has none of Narciso's sultry musc and dries down more powery, so they are close but not identical.
It's probably silly of me, but since Idylle migrated to the universal bottles it didn't smell exactly the same, I find the powder note intensified. Am I imagining things?

Nice green lilac with classic fresh and slightly soapy florals and beautiful earthy and refreshing base. Quite realistic lilac (not synthetic and not too heady). Of course, it’s not very modern but quite interesting.

Yeah I can see how this can smell like toilet cleaner, but who's to say toilet cleaner smells bad. I got it because the bottle is pretty. As a blind buy it smells more powdery than I expected, its not what I would call a pretty scent more so than I would describe a scent passed down from your grandmother, who received it from her grandmother. It is mature. On the plus side its got its own unique stance in a generation of vanilla gourmands and would definitely standout, also good for layering. -My thoughts. I may be wrong.

lmnsvgz

It smells very elegant, a bit mature but not matronly, just luxurious, put-together. It is a perfume that deserves the title of a perfume - it's not a sugar bomb nor a watery floral essence.

It is well-blended and I cannot tell the notes apart.

Last year I made a successful blind buy with Idylle Love Blossom, so I also wanted to get to know the original Idylle. I was a bit sceptical, as I'm neither a big fan of lily of the valley, nor of fragrances that are similar to Narciso Rodriguez For Her (EDP/EDT).

In my opinion this is quite atypical for Guerlain, no Guerlinade here. But it's beautifully blended, just like most of their other releases. I guess they're the only house that can make a scent like this work for me!
Idylle is indeed similar to the NR For Her line. It uses the same kinds of musk and patchouli. But the notes around them are different. This has a nectar-like, warm and honeyed floral accord that feels very springy, as if it had golden pollen floating around it. I don't smell a lot of lily of the valley, more rose and lilac, but I think the clean dewiness of LOTV might balance out the musk. In the opening, the litchi and raspberry add a lovely juicy freshness that only lasts for a short while.

My problem with the NR For Her line is that the musks turn kind of dirty and very overwhelming to my nose after a while. It never happens with Idylle. The scent always keeps the fresh floral notes besides the musk, so it stays clean and polished all through the drydown.
The overall feeling I get here is romantic, but also put-together. It makes me think of a strong-willed woman who likes to wear flowy floral dresses, soft pink blush and long wavy hair.

As I already have Love Blossom, I don't need this, they are very closely related. In direct comparison, Love Blossom is a little less musky and more focused on the beautiful honeyed lilac.

I have only tested this from the bee bottle, no idea if it smells different in other versions.

Pia20

With its top notes such as freesia, rose, litchi and raspberry you'd expect this scent to be very floral, and it is. The rose is the most emphasized among all of them. You get the other notes quite quickly, and I detect the patchouli the most.
It is very feminine and a pretty scent to wear.

cmdqt

This is too much to handle. Too mature for my liking and it just gives me headaches.

Air of Grace

Got a sample of the EDT and I thought it’s a lovely ,
Powdery scent so reminiscent of the 80s.

There was a sale for the EDP for $69.95 at a respected store ( not a fake ) so I just received it today in the bee bottle .

I so wanted it to be less powdery but alas it’s exactly the same .

I can smell rose and a beautiful blending of the other flowers but none specific .

If the musk was reduced or removed , I would be so in love it this scent .

Just feel the excessive powder scent makes it’s so dated and grandma-ish.

But saying that , this smells so similar to Xerjoff’s Apollonia which I love . I overlooked the powdery notes with Apollonia .

Idylle EDP projects intensely and longevity is over 6 hrs on my skin so I will just use one spray .

I don’t think I would reach for this perfume often as it’s just a like not a love .

Too much of a powder puff bomb though it’s not listed in the notes. No orris or Iris so maybe musk in this fragrance must be reacting with my skin.

Update : Gave the bottle to my mum who loved it . It’s potency is massive on her and I told her to be careful about over spraying .

LenoreHolly

Fresh, pretty and year-round daytime appropriate. On my skin, no fruit. Lilac, freesia and lily-of-the-valley heavy.

emilymonroe1

Idylle is a watery crystal rose infused with lily, musk, and white blossoms, as well as delicious stardust. Rose tincture, Freesia, Litchi, and Raspberry are the top notes; Lily-of-the-Valley, Jasmine, Lilac, Peony, and Lily are the middle notes; and Musk and Patchouli are the base notes. I'm over heels in love with Idylle. It begins with a rush of beautifully gentle and romantic blossoms and a really lovely, clean, cheerful opening for me. It rapidly loses its girlish sweetness and settles down to a rich yet warm musky rose that stays true and strong on me for the following 7-8 hours, with very gratifying sillage and the odd whiff of its exquisite understated rosy chypre heart!

Sannesans

I love this scent. It not very longlasting, but i don't mind reapplying. I have a beautiful bee bottle and it really grows on me. Also, summer weather makes this it more powerful on my skin. I much prefer it to Narciso for her. More refined. Curious about the 2021 version. Hopefully longer lasting. But all in all a beautiful Guerlain.

Shushanik

Oh my… Well crafted, absolutely gorgeous scent! Nothing unique, but has a character. Very elegant like most of Guerlain offerings.

AnnaCeciliaPetersson

Idylle is as close to spring rain as a scent can come. Both the good and the bad smells of Lily of the valley: damp and decomposing but also fresh and slightly cloyingly sweet. Like a mix between Diorella and Diorissimo by Dior, although with an unnistakeable Guerlain DNA. Idylle is a perfect name for it, like an ideal world that is really just a fantasy or memory of something that in reality also has a dark side to it. My review is of the EDT in the older drop shaped bottle. I think that it grows the more I wear it.

Rober7a

This is VERY floral. I got a blast of lilacs when I first sprayed it, and it continued to be lilac dominant for the rest of it's life, which was not that long, maybe 3h with moderate projection until it turned into a skin scent.

Enrium

I have a miniature teardrop bottle of Idylle from the year of its release. Idylle is a floral-fruity-musk, a style favoured by the manufacturers of celebrity scents ten years ago. Unmistakeably noughties in style, it has little of its own personality, faithfully following the blueprint of many of its predecessors. A little bit of Kate Moss, a sprinkle of Britney Spears, add a dash of Kylie Minogue, and perhaps some Victoria's Secret for good measure - a far cry from what I would expect from Guerlain. Such perfumes are not to my taste at the best of times, but Idylle, while smelling fairly generic, has its moments and improves as it develops, ultimately resulting in a scent that is a cut above the aforementioned cheapie celebrity offerings.

Idylle opens with a sweet accord of juicy raspberry and aquatic lychee. Freesia, a popular note in such noughties floral-fruities, features quite prominently. A dirty musk joins the fray, becoming dominant as it develops on the skin, bringing to mind Narciso Rodriguez for Her and SJP Lovely, but is initially not as nice as either. The opening is the worst part - it smells sickly sweet, cheap and dated.

The floral heart blooms after a little while, made up of heady white florals and some sweet, watery rose. Lily-of-the-valley features prominently, and is typically green and slightly waxy. I enjoy muguet in perfume, and it is a lovely inclusion here. The florals are complemented by the musk note, which reminds me a little of J. Lo's Glow at this stage - sweetly synthetic and animalic at the same time. The florals become lighter and airier as time passes, eventually becoming pleasantly soapy.

It fades to a sweet musky skin scent that retains its soapiness as it dries down. Sillage is fairly strong and longevity is moderate. Idylle is not my style, and not full-bottle worthy for me, but I can appreciate facets of it. It is like an elevated celebrity scent, not to be taken too seriously. Youthful and girly, Idylle is a noughties time capsule, but not at all distinctive. 2/5.

demhayerawsah

Is it very similar to NR For Her? Well yes and no... Initially it's clear that they are somehow related, but where NR is linear and is loved because it smells the same from start to finish, Idylle has mystery and moves with you as you wear her.

I have wanted this perfume since the early 2010s. A woman I know used to wear it and I've adored it since first whiff. In the intervening years I got sidetracked and other perfumes from Guerlain captured my interest instead. And so a decade later I found the bee bottle version at a Black Friday sale and I'm pleased to say that I finally own Idylle!
It's as good as I remember and delightful. It sits close to the skin but enchants whoever encounters it.

EaudeParfumsEnthusiast

Oh idylle! It is wonderful to have you back in my collection. After my bottle was stolen, I have missed the luscious roses drenched in musk and fruits that enlivens and sparkles my day/evening/whenever I wear it. Sprayed onto my clothes, the musk-drenched rose and top note fruits open with wonder and delight, accompanied with the various flowers in the heart and further grounded by patchouli in its earthy sweetness. I have the original teardrop bottle which is super luxurious and beautiful in my wardrobe.

Clairey15

I really like this perfume but its performance is terrible. The litchi and raspberry come out very strong for me on the top notes and it calms down to a very heady, almost sweaty lily. It smells like a day on a dam in the middle of summer. I just wish it lasted more than an hour! Even 15 sprays does nothing for longevity and the smell does not stay on your clothes. For that reason i usually only wear it to gym and maybe to quick coffee dates, if the drive isn't long enough that it wears off in the car :/

malikun

Thierry Wasser's fragrances that I have tried have unforgettable twist, Idylle is unforgettable in its straight-up annoyingness. To find a perfume that I am going to like, I look at the perfumes I hate first. My mom has a huge collection of perfumes and somehow she can pull off almost any type, unlike me. Idylle she got as a gift and I couldn't believe how could she use it. Then I analyzed her perfumes and found the most hated by me are Idylle and Champs Elysees from Guerlain as well. The most common ingredients the two share are lily-of-the-valley and lilac, along with rose and peony. Bingo! White flowers are indolic and not everyone can tolerate combinations of indolic notes in their perfumes. Since then I am very careful with blind buying and testing such, dont wanna waste my wrist at a duty free haha...

Abry_81

Since 2017 Guerlain unify most of its fragrances in the bee bottles, leaving my beloved classic Shalimar, Terracotta, Mon Guerlain and La Petit Robe Noir line in the bottles that were created for them (the feminine ones, the men will all go in the classic bottle of Vetiver and Habit Rouge).
I refused to buy this perfume because although I adore Guerlain it reminded me a lot of Narciso Rodríguez for her perfume that came out many years before and although I consider all Narciso Rodríguez very good fragrances and I collect many female perfumes too, I never saw them for myself (the men's ones I love them, even I have two of them)
To what we are going then, Idylle although it resembles the aforementioned NR stands out more in its floral notes and although it contains musk among its components this does not stand out from the other notes, this is an enormously feminine fragrance, delicate but perfectly noticeable and eternally romantic in it stands out from all its floral bouquet the lily of the valley with a background of lilacs, jasmine, freesia, peony and lily, all of them dancing on heart of tincture of rose and a white musky base accompanied by a light juicy touch of lychee and raspberry which they give a slight sweetness and a very realistic touch to that rose tincture which gives us the impression of being the presence of juicy and fresh rose petals.
Better late than never! How lucky to find this perfume in its vintage version, and a week later I didn't think about it, I found and added its edt version from the same year it was launched, a true idyll.

Kitskivich

I rarely wear my Idylle because, to me, it is a sister fragrance to Narciso Rodriguez for her and Tocca Cleopatra, although Cleopatra is a tad more tuberose and Idylle is more lily. They're all innocuous, musky florals, but they all, including Idylle, are not bright to me and they are not loves. I have a 1.7 oz. bee bottle that I've used perhaps 6 times. If anyone wants to snag it or swap for it, I'm all ears.

ta_rahman

Guerlain idylle is water drenched rose. I really enjoyed wearing it as well, which is saying something cause I do not like roses. As much as I love the perfume, it sadly doesn't last on me at all. Becomes a skin scent within 2 hrs, 4 hrs on clothes. Minimal projection. Not full bottle worthy for me cause I'm not an extreme rose lover, and can't justify paying the price because of the weak longevity on me. It's a shame cause it does smell beautiful!

leona.voltz

Many years ago we had a neighbor whose scent I always found interesting at the time, if not my cup of tea at the time. At the time I would've described it as a musky/earthy rose. Fast-forward and I come across Idylle. It hit me right away, this is my former neighbor's scent....and now I can't get enough of it! I love this!!! And the fact that it reminds me of my sweet neighbor who sadly passed away is a sweet beautiful comforting bonus to me. I agree, it is similar to Narciso.

melissa97

I have this fragrance right now. I love fragrances that start with a flowery note and last with a powdery/musky note. Perfect fragrance for spring. But I use it in all seasons :D If you spray it to clothes, it stays 2-3 days on it. But on skin, it stays for about 3-6 hours. Btw I am 23 years old and I think this fragrance is suitable for a large age range. My mum uses it sometimes.

Natalia91

I love this fragrance. In the opening most noticeable for me is lily of the valley and I am very happy as this is my favourite flower. In the dry down the note is lilac - my second favourite flower.
Overall this is fresh, flowery, spring/summer fragrance and very classy. Definitely worth a 100 ml bottle purchase.

mtactac7ello

I love This perfume. It reminds of a Dior perfume called Diorella

Amelia28

This makes me think of a floral version of NR for Her. I absolutely love it! Another Guerlain win for me. It really is my favorite fragrance house.

RottigrlNYC

Ok so I blind bought a vintage tear drop bottle. I love all the notes listed, so I had very high hopes of really loving this one, and it’s a Guerlain, I’m always hoping Guerlain would redeem themselves. So, do i love it, not really, I do like it very much. It’s a very nice feminine floral perfume. I mean it’s nothing unique, I’ve smelt this kind of perfume scent profile before from other perfume houses. I do like it, it’s a pretty scent and ppl compliment me when I do wear it. But....
Projection is weak, it also doesn’t last long . At about the one hour mark it’s a skin scent. Then again it could just be that I’ve become anosmic to it. This is why u must sample it for yourself .
This perfume is an easy blind buy, and a great gift for a woman. It’s lovely, I can’t imagine anyone not liking it. But try to find a vintage bottle, it’s much much better. I wouldn’t buy the one in the bee bottle.

cresol

If I'm being honest: A horrible thin, acrid white musk that won't go away. A dash of raspberry but absolutely not enough to take the edge off. Nauseating.

hsiangchi.huang

Musk, Musk, and Musk.

This is a predominately a musky perfume, the floral notes are not as distinct. Reminds me of Narciso Rodriguez For Her, and Maison Margiela Replica's Lazy Sunday Morning. It's clean, simple, unique and addicting!

It is a all-season scent, wearable day or night. Longevity is great but doesn't project far (won't disturb others, perfect for office).

CurrencyThat

Idylle is beautiful. It opens up tart, almost boozy, and quickly transitions into a musky floral teetering between modern & nostalgic without assuming either. This phase doesn't last long though. Patchouli then emerges and blends with rose and lily of the valley for an elegant, fresh timeless floral. This isn't a sweet fruity floral however it's absolutely feminine, demure (noticeable but doesn't scream for attention), and alluring. Projection is good, as is longevity.

Celestialjewel

Such a happy sunny floral! Idylle has a sparkling quality to it that keeps it from being classified as an "old" smelling perfume. Its rose + lily of the valley + lilac combination reminds me of a sweet floral tea with golden honey, or the floral scent of spring shimmering on a sea breeze. The peony and litchi keeps it fresh and lighthearted. She is elegant with an enjoyment of life — a perfect scent for spring!

botany28

Quite a strong floral. I used to have the old bottle edition, but it's not as good as I remember it to be. Pretty different, in fact. It's got so much more rose that I thought. I don't necessarily attribute this to formula change. It's kind of like when you start learning music production, and you return to a song that used to absolutely floor you with delight, except now you're wiser and those "crazy" effects turned out just to be panning and arpeggios...

Similar vibe here, for me. If I try really hard to not pick the notes apart, and try to smell it as my teenage nose might have—all at once– then I can reconstruct a picture of my enjoyment, albeit incomplete.

I like it more for the nostalgia factor. If I smelled this for the first time today, I would probably pass on it in favor of something more unique.

zgeco

Guerlain s equivalent of Diorissimo.

The opening is fruity floral which is very generic for today’ s trends, smells just like any floral fruity scents around. This is not fault of Idylle though. When it was launched in 2009, it became the reference, and many of the todays generic scents imitated Guerlain. Idylle s opening should been divine in 2009 but has become generic in 2021.

Once this phase ends and long lasting phase starts, the scent reminds me of Diorissimo. Lily of the valley dominates jasmine rose smell.

If you love Diorissimo ( and cant find it any more as it happens to be nowadays), you may consider trying Idylle.

On overall, Idylle is an elegant Guerlain. Beautiful bottle ( bee bottle), upper class smell.

Sherine777

I get lots of fruity pink musky Roses. It is divine!
When I smelled it on its own, I could totally see the resemblance to Narciso EDP but side by side, not so much and only at the beginning.
This is fruitier, happier, warmer, slightly greenish and it has an effervescent quality that's not in Narciso EDP.
I am happy I finally gave in and bought it, I was hesitant because I didn't want it to be redundant and it isn't.
I have the new bee bottle and it lasts about 4-5 hours with decent projection.

bel.gravia

I never thought about it, but yes Idylle, Lovely, and Narcisso are all in one family!
A clean, bright, musky floral. Heavily lilac centered, I suggest this perfume for spring nights. Quite a luxurious little gem, the old formulation bottle I own is way more superior to what is in a bee bottle.

BlackOrchidSorceress

NOTE* Blind buy, old formula/bottle EDP

Idylle is a watery crystal rose comet with a big tail of majestic lily, musk & white flowers mixed with fruity stardust entering Earth to destroy humanity

ps. For people who try a fragrance once and go off the first experience...learn to investigate and experiment with fragrance. Most of the time you just need to spend time with it. Your nose needs to "grow" into a fragrance. TBH, I have not liked any of my Guerlains upon first sniff. I learned to stick with them and really learn them and guess what, I have 17 Guerlains now. Guerlain is my favourite house specifically because they push you to get deeper into their creations by making scents that REQUIRE time to appreciate.

tanzp

Another blind buy and I am very pleased I don't think it weak at all I have the older shape bottle maybe that's why very close to nr but in my opinion better silage. Musky rosey goodness I love it! 10 out of 10

Kashaboo

One of my Guerlains I don't use too often. It is very soft and not long lasting. I cannot totally dismiss it, though, because the scent is very, very good, when you are in the mood for a lovely spring bouquet. It makes me think of walking through a beautiful garden on a warm spring day. Sillage is fairly low.

Jocovt11

This is stunning. L.o.v.e. It. It is more like Cleopatra by Tocca, than NR for Her or Lovely, but they all have that kind of zesty(patchouli), musky, lily of the valley thing going on. (And when I say that, they at least smell like they have LOTV, I didn’t cross check the notes). This is gentle, soft, while NR For Her is “POW, in ya face.” I love all four fragrances I mention here, this being my new favorite. The EDT version of this is also gorgeous. I will always have both versions in my collection.

WijayantiKusuma

Today i received my Guerlain Idylle blind buy as always. When i sprayed it on my wrist i was really enjoying it. It’s sophisticated scent, classy, elegant and beautiful. But wait a minute... this scent reminds me of.. Gosh... SJP Lovely which i used to hate it 10 years ago. I might change my opinion about SJP Lovely now.

jero

I read here on the other fragrance someone wrote: "Insolence(2006) is the last great work of Guerlain." but not this one(2009).

I have vintage Lilia Bella, years later I was astonished to learn it was kind of becoming the "in sale for only 1 day in a year– May 12th in Guerlain's stores," Muguet series(kinda after 2009).

Idylle is the watery Lilia Bella, Lily-of-the-valley's daydreams, just water-like I don't think I'll keep on seaching its secret.

PS the longevity is OK.

meg0825

Guerlain rarely disappoints and Idylle is beautiful. A musky floral very similar to Narciso Rodriguez EDP and SJP Lovely. I get more rose than lily-of-the-valley. A sweet and jammy raspberry-rose. There is green lily-of-the-valley and honeyed lilac too. Perfect for spring. Love it!

Frangipanilove

Yes, it does have a resemblance to Narciso Rodriguez, definitely, but they are not alike. Narciso is much sexier and a bit sweeter whereas Idylle is lighter, more elegant, a bit soapier. Idylle is not the type of fragrance I generally go for, its too subtle, but at this very moment, I seem to really enjoy it. Its intimate, like a secluded spot in a shaded garden of a ruined church, hidden away in silence, only subtle sounds of wind moving the leaves gently, your book next to you on the bench. Lovely in the summer, mild breeze.
Edit: this is for the new bee bottle edp.

chimidoro

Here just to agree with anybody who says that this doesn't smell anything like Narciso For Her EDP. It really doesn't.
For one, Narciso For Her EDP never worked on me - while this smells grand. The rose is totally different in For Her and the patchouli dominates more and is less warm and honeyed overall. Not really any point me going in to the ins and outs, they don't smell alike to me at all.
Then again, people seem to think that Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker is a grand dupe for fans of For Her also, which has always baffled me considering that Lovely is a lavender scent and For Her obviously isn't. Urgh...

Big fan of Idylle when it was first released, i.e original formulation. Didn't like the later formulation(s?) and have not tried the beehive/honeycomb bottle variant (yet).
This was glorious though, fruity opening, lovely musky rose and lily of the valley, shares something of Pleasures by Estee Lauder but is much smoother and not as fresh and crisp in character as that.

Roselover225

I have the older bottle, EDP from 2013. This is a very floral, romantic scent to me. Lots of rose, freesia, and LOTV. Dry down of more florals, some peony, and a soft musk. It has moderate sillage for a few hours and then stays fairly close for a few more hours. I find that if I overspray I don’t like it as much, it is best with just a few. It wears well in all seasons and feels elegant, clean, and well blended. Some days I want to make a statement and wear my older Guerlains. Some days I just want a pretty floral, and I reach for this.

labonvie

Despite what you’ve heard, this is not a Narciso for her dupe. I can see (smell?) the parallels between the two but I find them to be distinct enough to own and enjoy both in their own right.
This scent profile has become perfumers’ shorthand for modern everyday sophistication. Yes, this smells familiar but not trite. I love the interplay between the tart and creamy notes. Lily-of-the-valley and rose are vying for dominance but not to distraction. The aldehydes truly make it sparkle. I don’t find this boring at all. I can use this any season or occasion and it always works. I use it most often on days when I can’t decide what scent to wear. I would call it a good basic but that misses the fact that this is a well executed fragrance that smells great.

delicatefabric

This smells like your favourite teacher in primary school -- don't be mistaken, it is not matronly. In my mind, this fragrance is what Miss Honey from Matilda would wear, if she could afford it.

With a few sprays you are enveloped in a soft, comforting bouquet. It instantly makes any outfit more elegant and feminine. Throughout wear I do not detect any hard and sharp edges. A friend commented that it smells like a soothing cup of jasmine tea, which speaks for the welcoming and comforting character this perfume has.

Sillage is soft, and longevity is not particularly impressive for an EDP.

Mine is the new frosted bee bottle, which in my opinion is more fitting for this graceful scent.

Apiaceae

Such a gem. A bit musky, very feminine, decorated with all sorts of beautiful flowers. Understated and elegant, this Guerlain beauty opens with a blast of spring, lily of the valley and Lilac, green and bright, and then mellows with the musk, freesia and the pink florals, toning it down to a warm weather summer. I personally would like more of that spring, but I am not complaining!

bmonkey

The note that I smell the most is patchouli, then the musk and lastly the flowers. It smells very similar to Byredo Velvet Haze, which I have and love but can’t wear it because it gives me massive headaches. Is already night and I am getting ready to go to bed so this perfume is not bothering my head too much, but I am sure that if I spray it first thing in the morning it will give me a headache

MarianB

I just discovered it and it was love at first sniff. Such a lovely floral spring scent. Fields full of flowers, a clear blue sky and sunshine. All in one bottle. Soft and delicate. Very feminine. Love it.

humaira_

This is soft, just to soft...
U need to smell your skin to know if it still there or not and the longevity is really low

sibaraa

This is one if the best floral bouquets that you can wear and will make everyone want to hug you. Perfection at it's best.🥰💕

CologneCoogar

This is a soft, sweet floral. I find it difficult to discern any specific florals, but that's not to say that what is there isn't very pretty. It stays pretty static over a few hours, the fade is a bit sweeter still. It's possibly better suited to a very young person, just as it is soft, sweet and straightforward, so easy to like.

raiza1990

Very pretty fragrance. Soft, feminine, elegant and classy. My husband is in love with it. it’s comforting, pleasant and inoffensive. I understand now why it has so many fans.
Projection is very good, longevity too. I recommend it to anyone looking for a sensual and slightly sweet floral, with a nostalgic touch but timeless.
I imagine a rich but low key woman wearing it. She dresses in earth tones, she likes simple but quality things.
Final note: 9/10

Jacklyn's Perfumery

This fragrance is so pretty..I have one of the newer bee bottles I got as a gift. Gosh these bee bottles are so so pretty in person. This fragrance reminds me of 90's fragrances with that lush yellow floral sweet mix. If I got the newer bottle perhaps I got a reformulated version of Idylle because I remember it being in a different tear drop bottle. This fragrance reminds me of il bacio by Borghese except that one is denser if you have the original formulation. This one is the same scent but just lighter and that one having more citrus in the mix where this is more of that yellow floral vibe. It's a pretty spring time scent. My husband loved this one so much once I sprayed it so did my daughter. I don't know if I will be using this much since I have il bacio and prefer that more but I love that I have another option for that one. I could see many loving this fragrance for the spring or day time.

This scent smells like falling in love with the person of your life.

A beautiful composition of flowers (rose, lily of the valley), fruit (raspberry, litchi) and musk that lingers delicately on the skin - I loved Idylle since I first smelled her.

It smells utterly fresh, feminine and sophisticated - with a slight naughty side from the musk. It is my "summertime" version of Narciso For Her (EDT) - lighter, more fruity and fresh.

Unfortunately the longevity on this one isn't amazing - a couple hours or so, but I think that ties into the delicate nature of the perfume - anything stronger would take away from that.

I would say this is a safe blind-buy - hard to see how many people wouldn't enjoy this one. At the same time, it's not extremely common - another thing I love about it. I think I will wear this for years to come.

bodnerrachel

It took me a long time to appreciate this fragrance. Idylle is not meant to be a loud, screeching fragrance. It was meant to be a quiet, introspective, dreamy fragrance. It is sublime musky, fruity, with hints of litchi, raspberry, rose, jasmine, and freesia. The litchi was a brilliant addition. For those that want a floral perfume with more voice, more character, more overt sexiness, go with Champs- Élysées or Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet. But hold onto your Idylle as perfumes become more loud, screechy and "gourmand." There is a place for Idylle in the universe of perfumes. A gorgeous classic!

CY1103

My very first perfume from Guerlain house. Wearing it is like embraced by the late spring/ early summer blossom, which combines all my favorite flowers together to create this warm, lustrous and vivid scent with layers, waiting for its owner to explore.

Apparently, the many variety of Idylle's ingredients gives it many sides when applying on different people, even on different parts of body of a same person - floral, subtly woody, feminine.

I suppose this is one of the terrific examples for a mass production perfumes - identity is still carried on.

Sara2bluue

So I own this as well as narcisso R for her. And they're basically two sister's. They smell so similar yet so different. Idylle is the happy sister when u smell her u feel like ur in a heaven. It's so flowery yet it doesn't smell like a grandma but like young classy girl or a woman. I can see it worn by all ages but preferably for young souls. It's fun. Sadly not that long lasting. You will b missing it on yourself and the smell while not that strong. It's still a crowd pleaser. The rose in this one is green and fresh. It's well complimented with the white musk. I recommend anyone and every perfume lover to try it. I'd say it's a safe blind buy but some ppl get overwhelmed by the lily of the valley smell.

Wow. I have no idea how I hadn't encountered this fragrance before, especially in my hunt for a fresh green rose-led floral following the loss of Lancôme's Miracle So Magic, which I loved. I'm also a big fan of other Guerlain scents, especially the Mon Guerlain range (the Florale flanker being among my very favourites).

My introduction to Idylle was smelling it on a neighbour and immediately asking her what she was wearing. She very kindly gifted me a bottle, and it is gorgeous! I was afraid I might repeat my experience of D&G Light Blue, which smells intoxicating on others but like a Glade air freshener on me. Luckily, Idylle works well with my chemistry, and it smells really sophisticated.

The rose note is the strongest initial hit for me, and it's definitely a youthful, sweet rose, balanced by the green and other sweet notes. I'm not a fan of prominent patchouli notes (it's even too strong in SJP's Lovely for me); the patchouli note here is subtle and blends in beautifully with the fresh green notes. I'm curious to see if the litchi note emerges more in the development, as it is one of the most prominent notes I picked up when I first interrogated my neighbour about her fragrance.

My continued obsession with Miracle So Magic is somewhat satisfied with Idylle's lily-of-the-valley and rose top notes, as well as the musk. Idylle also reminds me just a little of Joy by Dior, but without the mysterious, headache-inducing note that made me ultimately decide against purchasing that one.

When this bottle of Idylle runs out, I'll likely buy it again. It's a safe blind buy for a person of any age who likes a green, rosy floral.

TillyWave

Wine & Roses

Idylle wears like nothing else on my skin. The litchi notes are HUGE. I am surprised that they are voted so low on the notes list. Mostly Idylle is a beautiful bloom of roses, wine, litchi fruit, a hint of raspberry, a sprig of lilac, a stem of jasmine, and peony...as it dries down the patchouli appears along with a bit of musk.

Mostly though I feel like I am sticking my nose into an aromatic glass of red wine when I smell this. I love it. Silage is minimal, lasts about 6+ hours on my skin.

My bottle is from 2011, I'm not sure how Idylle smells today, as most reviews are highly divergent from mine.

Nancy83

Lily-of-the-valley and jasmine are the flowers that dominate the most on me.

The projection is moderate, I have good sniffs for 3-4 hours, after it's softer, then around 6-8 hours it's more a skin scent for the rest of the day and night.

It's well blended, round, creamy, soapy, I didn't found any harshness, it's just too floral floral for my teeth.

My mom gave me an old sample from her collection and I will use it in the right floral mood, but I don't see myself buying it.

pweedyadel

Not into floral perfumes but I got this perfume cos I’m a huge Guerlain fan. Actually got a compliment at work and surprisingly lasted for about 10 hours on my skin and dress😉
Will definitely wear this again but not anytime soon 😃

lady_ireth264

Well unfortunately this is one Guerlain that doesn't work for me.
I like the opening very much. I can smell the flowers and litchi mixed in. Very refreshing yet elegant.
But then 5 minutes later all I got is musk.
Now I love musk, as Narciso Rodriguez EDT is one of my faves. But that's just it. The mid phase for me is just musk. Reminds me of Narciso but I'm wearing Idylle. I expect to smell Idylle's development. But that doesn't happen.
Musk is dominant for the rest of 30 minutes and then I can smell veeery faint traces of the base notes.
Then Idylle is gone.

Mind you, this is very likely my chemistry with the perfume not evidence of poor Guerlain production. After all, Alien is non-existent on my skin too. I'm just so sad I'm not one of those lucky people who can enjoy the full stages of this perfume.

I think I'll give this to my Mom. Sometimes she can work perfumes that are just icky with me.

Well I'll buy my next Guerlain soon.
Remember to try perfumes on your skin before buying when possible.

DT953

I had a full 100mL bottle of the eau de parfum and for some reason sold it. From what I can remember, this was a juicy and sweet fragrance. Pear, a combo of lemon and rose that gave it a fresh zing, and some beautiful lily of the valley and jasmine that made it ever so lively for spring. Really love this perfume.

Selena

A beautiful floral fresh scent, that smells some what like chemical?
But it's perfect, it changes through out the wearing.
You won't get a head ache with this perfume, in fact you'll be missing it,
You'll want to have it on❤️
Long lasting & worth having!
Guerlain makes good scents.
Just gotta find the ones you'll enjoy :)
Idylle, samsara edp, la petite robe noir (will always have a place in my collection.)

i am joan

A really good scent if you are looking for a predominantly white bouquet with a musky, slightly dirty twist. A great whole-year-rounder fitting any occasion. I am surpised there is rose, raspberry and litchi there - I actually wanted to praise this for not having any sweetness. Seems that on me this trio does not flourish at all. It's a less powdery sister of Narciso Rodriguez For Her EDP (pink bottle), with better staying power and sillage. When wearing NR For Her once I actually got asked if I am wearing Idylle, they are so similar.

Idylle is a nice, classy fragrance which will suit many, although I think it will be most appreciated by women who love florals in high quantities.

delightme5

Instinctively, if you dont like florals you might be repelled by this. You will smell the rose, a greenish rose.. ? and the green of lily which i suppose gives off this factor. It starts a bit chemical sharpish maybe even a citronella aroma.

I like it, a lot. Albeit it took a while to get there.
While out i sprayed my friends inner arm with it - the initial response was .. Eww yuck nope too floral!. But, within 30 min he was mystified.!, it became soft light green, the flowers had disappeared and it was airy, fresh, softly sweet - floating green. He wanted to buy it.

Anyhow,so wed definitely have a floral facade.sophisticated sharp and otherwise powdery illusion.
Again ,sadly, comes and stays for not long enough in my experience,- but lovely while its around ,tho im hoping to prove that wrong.

senalica

I love the simplicity and elegance of this perfume! It is a sophisticated floral and even though the composition consists mostly of the "classic" floral notes - Lily of the Valley, rose and jasmine - it's always playing beautifully on my skin and sometimes seems to have more depth than other perfumes with richer components. On my skin it works wonderfully. Idylle is a fragrance that won't overpower you - it will complete your style and linger in the background, occasionally coming forward in beautiful whiffs of gorgeous yet calm floral scent. Not to mention I absolutely loved the original bottle design and it is such a shame they decided to change the bottle.

valencia

I totally see the resemblance with the Narcisso here (pink bottle), which I had, loved and used up pretty quickly. I got this as a more rounded version of Narcisso, so as to have a bit of variety. It has developed on me in a different way, where it is still quite similar, but the lovely litchie is coming through in a delicious top note. It is wonderfully complemented with the florals and patchouli in the base. This is a wonderfully elegant scent, perfect for day wear. I would say this is a safer, more feminine sister of Narcisso. Fabulous in her own right, and definitely true to the Guerlain family.

Alces Alces

Yes, I get the resemblance to Narciso and Lovely, but Idylle is more polished, less raw. To me it's sweeter and cleaner, possibly because of the lily of the valley, I don't know.

Lots of disdain here, lots of dismissals on the basis of being ordinary. To me it's exceptional, refined with that extra finesse Guerlains always have. The rose in Idylle is gorgeous and really shines in the drydown. Something about this just makes me happy.

ladyjm89

I try to hold off on reviewing a perfume until I’ve worn it a couple days and can get a better feel for it. Generally speaking, I don’t like loud, brash fragrances, which is why I was drawn to Idylle. Some are calling it boring, generic, etc. I actually REALLY like it! Maybe it’s because of my penchant for smells that remind me of gardens and fresh rain? I don’t know. But I find this perfume very delightful on my skin. It’s crisp yet sensual, a more wearable version of Narciso Rodriguez. I will wear it for casual events or days around the house because I don’t think it’s exciting enough for more special occasions. But it’s right up there on my list of favorites next to Escada’s Delicate Notes! A lovely feminine fragrance that refreshes my soul!

Scent 7/10
Sillage 5/10
Longevity 6/10

Bubbles1964

I can finally cross this off my list. Wearing a Guerlain sample spray, and it goes on a little too sweet and sharp, and ultimately a generic floral (rose-LOTV-peony-jasmine) scent. Drydown is better but I don't like the path Idylle takes to get there.

I'm still interested in checking out other Idyllle flankers, but this is a pass for me.

rachel32

Yesterday i went thru my drawers to clean up a bit and found a sample of this an aunt gave some years ago and OH MY OH MY !!! i went crazy with this perfume i couldn't stop smelling my self, i'm not usually into floral fragrances so i guess the musk makes it work for me, went to ebay and for my surprise this is way cheaper than i thought considering it's a Guerlain fragrance, I'm definitely buying this one !!

1stclass

Simply divine.
But I will go with narciso on this occasion. I like the musk in narciso, it gives it a lot more sexiness.

amourdelarose

I’m sad to say that I’m sure they reformulated it with the new bottles. I just bought a new bottle with the bees and it’s nothing like the original Idylle. Guerlain has always been my favorite perfume house but I feel like we’re starting to lose them too. Just too sad.

Neosmiaphyte

Not unpleasant, but overhyped. I found it non descript and generic

chinook

I tried it on a test strip in store and it was a lovely white floral. I tried it on my arm and it turned into a sweet woody floral. I think it’s the combination of jasmine, patchouli and musk that seems sweet and woody. The dry down is a lovely clean musk. Projection is heavy. I usually don’t get dizzy from scents but this one made me quite nauseous.

Christopher Cupcakes

This is a powdery floral on initial spray but dries down to a soft floral musk. The wear is soft and long lasting.

I love how unique this scent is and the bottle is so elegant looking while sitting on my shelf. This is one that I wear a lot during the day. Its perfect for day wear.

perfumes_addict

I wanted so much to like Idylle due to the Guerlain brand and the beautiful and expensive looking bottle but, unfortunately, the juice inside is extremely ordinary and boring. It's hard to believe that Guerlain would make such cheap and ordinary stuff. It is linear from the beginning to the end and I can smell roses, roses and some more roses. Nothing spectacular, nothing to blow you away in order to justify the beautiful bottle. I ended up returning it as it really lacks the personality.

Katieg

It’a beautiful floral but my skin on a hot day ‘swallows it up’. It reminds me so much of an Yves Rocher scent I like very much called ‘Comme une Evidence’. I have/ had several Guerlains and this one is just not distinctive enough, that’s just my opinion,

justfloral

For lily-of-the-valley and jasmine lovers.
It starts out like fruit salad with pear + raspberry.
After 5 minutes I can smell jasmine note (a little bit indolic) + strong lily-of-the-valley (but also weaker lily and lilac note). Yes, it reminds me Narciso Rodriguez, but Narciso is more quiet, not so loud, "murmuring", less sweet and tends to dissapear and appear on my skin like a sinusoid.

mlrd217

I got a vial and it was love at the first sniff, it's a very beautiful, elegant, I felt like I was sleeping on the bed of flowers. I sprayed it on my scarf and I still could smell it 3 days later on my scarf. I finally bought a full bottle and I just LOVE this beauty.

cufberte.daniem

Never exactly being one for pear notes, this one actually caught me off guard. Pear usually does the same thing to me that grapefruit does, in that they both make me think of cheapies or Victoria's Secret scents. Now neither of those things are bad, I just wouldn't pay Guerlain prices for them.
I did for Idylle, however. It's a conundrum and it still makes me think of the aforementioned things, but it made me effortlessly and irresistibly happy. Who am I to argue against such things?

Now, while I did say that Idylle reminded me of a much cheaper scent, I will say that it smells like a cheaper scent made with incredibly high quality materials. The pear in this is loud, but soft and vivid, although ethereal. Mixed with the lychee and raspberry, this is one fruity number and that's just the way I like it. This is not a usual LotV scent, how bizarrely wonderful!

Violinplayah

Opens like a dewy summer morning but sadly closes like chalk dust. One of the weirdest and most disappointing perfume progressions I’ve experienced.

TwoTabu

Pretty in pink... This is such a pretty perfume. I bought this after deciding I needed some rose in my life. And who doesn't? I don't tend to go for straight-up floral scents these days but Idylle was too lovely to resist. A rich, realistic rose bouquet. Finely crafted, smells suitably expensive. I only wish it had more staying power. This is one of the few perfumes I own that needs topping up midway through the day.

osy2017

Very nice and trendy in a very beautiful bottle. Can be used for different occasions, inofencive, but edgy at the same time. To me this will pair well with a leather jacket in spring time. Good addition to any collection.

PricklyAndHot

Maybe it reminds Narciso Rodriguez for Her edp, but smells much more nicer. But as for me, I don't find catchy both of them.

Pannonia

This was my first blind buy ever and it was a lucky one. The scent is reminiscent of opening an ornate gate to a sophisticated garden (you know, the ones with white pavilions) on a Friday morning in early spring, just when the weather has got warm enough to switch from one's winter coat to a light spring jacket. It's an absolutely timeless fragrance, floral and youthful, yet classy and effortlessly upscale. If you're headed to any place where you need to impress important people, wear this – it'll give you a boost of confidence.

The sillage is very subtle, the scent sits very close to the skin; longevity varies, the head and heart notes vanish within the space for two hours, but the base notes stick around for several more.

catwoman408

It smells like living sambaguita jasmine flowers with gossamer strands of gold woven through its leaves. When Venus visits the mortal world, she wears this fragrance.

addiehominem

Sigh... I think this is the fragrance that helped me know I don't like lily of the valley. I love Guerlain and floral fragrances, but something about lily of the valley makes me feel sad when I smell it. Idylle is a hyper realistic bouquet of dewy fresh flowers in the morning. It's light, fresh, and pretty. It's pretty like tulle and pink satin. It's not a bad perfume by any means, but sometimes smells cross over to emotional sensations, and in this case, Idylle's prominent lily of the valley just depresses me. I don't know why lily makes me so deeply sad, but it's sort of fascinating that smells can evoke such emotion.

Idylle reminds me a lot of the Beautiful Sheer flanker, a light floral perfect for spring and summer.

angel6

I remember trying this in a Airport and hating it. I believe is because of the peony and litchi, I can't stand the smell of peonies and this is sad because a friend gives me them sometimes and they are so beautiful but stink.

mattin5

I got Idylle as a gift from my grandma in early summer, I tried it and thought it was nice. Flowers, lots of flowers. I wore it a couple of times the next few days and each time I would get deeper into the scent, and each time it appeared more complex and feminine. I fell in love! and in a way I think it's the best to fall in love- slowly, surely, step by step...cause then you know it's true love. I wore it once later during summertime as I went out to dance with some friends. A friend of mine hugged me during the night, inhaled the scent from my hair and exclaimed: "You smell like a chest box full of flowers!" Loved that moment!
The name says it all, this scent is...idyllic!

cutsie587

I think this perfume can be worn year round; for any occasion. It is a great fragrance! All the notes are well-balanced. This has quickly become one of my favorites! And the bottle looks beautiful on my bedroom dresser.

scia

What a big mistake that Guerlain is now filling almost all his perfumes in the new (also poorly made) bee bottles.
I find the old Idylle-Flacon very suitable for the fragrance. It had a special charm that each perfume had its own matching Flacon, which should also reflect the character of the fragrance.
Samsara or Chamade have nothing to look for in the bee bottles...!
A big disappointment!
It's just missing that the beautiful Shalimar bottle will be assassinated from this new marketing. They already messed up the perfume yourself...

ElliCoco

Truly special. Like a riddle that is best if you didn't figure it out. If that makes senare.

Sapienta

This is not a perfume. this is a scent that has so many layers and dimensions, it changes through the day, still lingers in my hair at night.. it is still there in the morning, its almost like it fused with my body... wow

Xenia0504

I bought "Idylle" somewhere between 2009 and 2010. I still have the bottle which has only a little of the perfume in it.

It is not mentioned here, but the very word "idylle" comes straight from the ancient greek word "εἰδύλλιον" and it means romance, love affair.

This is a scent of moderate sillage and great longevity, that posseses a secret power: it can really create a romantic atmoshphere, as its title suggests. By this I mean that this scent does not boast its presence seeming harmless. However, as I have already pointed out, there exists a subtle hidden magic that predisposes the people around. This is not a perfume of dynamic, but it surely is a perfume that plays with the unconscious tendencies of the recipient.

All in all, to me this is a fragrance which I wouldn't repurchase. However, I would advise anyone who is interested in testing or buying it not to be fooled in considering it to be just another indifferent floral perfume. The wearer should know how to use it...

leannenicole

I love Guerlain for quality, but this is not my favourite. It's an inoffensive floral beginning (I get lily of the valley at first) that fades into roses a freesia and then has a very powdery end. On me, it smells very 'old', not in a sophisticated way but in one that says "simple flowers and powder".

gingervixen

If gold had a scent, it would smell like Idylle.. That's how I describe it whenever people ask me what Idylle smells like - PURE GOLD, like its bottle! Another masterpiece by Thierry Wasser!

Oh, this perfume is so underestimated and I don't even know why. Only a few people actually know this gem by Guerlain, and it causes usually a hate-it or love-it reaction... I particularly love it, for many reasons...

1. It's one of the rare perfumes that you can wear both in warm and cold days. Very versatile because it's floral but at the same time the strong patchouli and musk base notes (I can find a little bit of amber in it, too) make a very warm dry-down.

2. It's so feminine, and chic, and it can be worn both by younger and older women. Like I said, it's very versatile, and it is really noble to my nose...

3. Jasmine here is GORGEOUSLY placed in the middle notes... Together with Bulgari Jasmin Noir this is a perfume that shows how beautiful a Jasmine note can be... What I find beautiful about this perfume is that, to me, Jasmine is the center of everything... the Rose and other floral notes, together with the musk and patchouli notes work as a 'frame' to enhance the beauty of the Jasmine, which, to me, is the star of this perfume.

If you want something different, unique, ethereal and strong at the same time, give this piece of gem a try... Idylle, like the name very well describes it, is completely dreamy and poetic, something only a goddess would wear. IT SMELLS LIKE GOLD!

Poisonous

This is very light and pretty. I mostly get rose and freesia. The rose here isn't super rosey, it's more of the idea of roses mixed with purple flowers. I get some soft fruit vibes, pears that aren't actual pears, but again, the idea of pears. I can't imagine this would be offensive to anyone. It's nice, but I can't see myself reaching for it often because it's a little too safe. A bit too shampoo and clean. I prefer my scent to slowly smother me with deep, rich, dark heaviness. I'll have to continue to try my sample and see if it grows on me.

cocolover56

Guerlain Idylle is Guerlain's happy time scent. The EDT is a light touch of floral fruitiness and the EDP is a slightly heavy, albeit tangy, pear scent with lovely additions of jasmine and maybe melon.

The first time I properly wore this out was to work, I got so many compliments. I don't usually gauge a perfume's quality based off of compliments... but this made me feel so good. I'm not always used to compliments from fragrances, but when I do get them... they're invariably Guerlain scents post 2000. I don't know why, I just can't seem to get them from the classics. Oh well, as I said - that doesn't matter to me.

This is just tops, absolutely beautiful. Would even repurchase. I have the 2009 version, so hopefully not much has changed over the years!

sphynxcat

Just got a small decant of the edp. Pretty much what I expected: a rich floral bouquet of which I smell mostly the lily-of-the-valley and rose facets, with some purple and white flowers mingling. A hint of green in there. It's less fresh and a little more ripe smelling to me. I can see the NR for Her reference but that one never worked for me-too much orange blossom and I found it headache inducing- in any concentration. Also not a fan of NR musk. Similar also to SJP Lovely and EL Pleasures. Feminine wedding-type scents, and this is the richest and least clean of the 3. Lasts about 4-5 hours on me, which is plenty since it's pretty linear.
All-in-all, I think Idylle is just plain pretty, with a Spring-like optimism but still displaying warmth and could have come from any house. It's not identifiably Guerlain, so if you're getting it blind, I wouldn't expect much in that respect. I'll wear my decant happily on occasion, I'm sure, but probably don't need a bottle, but who knows?

maria.khan

I bought its EDT a year ago and it was the most stunning fragrance and lasted for days on my clothes when it was finished i ordered EDP thinking that would be more dense and deep than the EDT but unfortunately it did not last on me. Not even for an hour!! Was very disappointed and shocked :-(

BellaX

Idylle is a wonderful, intense, complex mix of different floral notes. It is warm, sensual, seductive and ultra feminine. It has some of the nicer aspects of Narciso Rodriguez For Her but it's not as cloying and sweet.
I can smell the rose, freesia and lilac but it's so well blended with all the other notes. I'm sure I can also smell hyacinth which is not listed, can anyone else smell that?
The bottle is beautiful and shaped as a big drop of liquid gold. Idylle is strong, three or four sprays is enough and It lasts very well.
I read somewhere that Idylle was largely ignored when it first came out. Hard to understand why such a classy, wonderful perfume should be ignored. I wonder if it had come in a more trendy bottle, (like Narciso Rodriguez) with edgy, modern advertising pherhaps that would have made a difference and made it more noticeable. It is nice to see that so many people here on fragrantica appreciate it though. I hope it will grow in popularity, it deserves it!

Ohhellozippy

I received this as a gift years ago. It's a nice romantic floral daytime scent. The plastic cap and silhouette of this bottle just makes it look so cheap which is a shame. We all know Guerlain can do much better bottle designs, after all they created the most recognizeable perfume bottle of all times: Shalimar.

MixedTastes

I really wanted to like this. Oh, how I did! It's Guerlain, it's a floral...what's not to like?

Unfortunately this is major scrubber territory on my skin. I got an overwhelming and unpleasant indolic vibe at first, bordering on rotting flowers and, bizarrely, overripe bananas. It faded pretty quickly to a generic, cheap-smelling floral and had completely disappeared within an hour (sorry-not-sorry).

I won't hold it against you, my dear house of Guerlain. But this is not for me!

AnitaHendricks

This perfume reminds me of a chique, sophisticated bouquet of flowers. They're standing proud in a fancy hotel's vase. The musk and patchouli notes create feelings of luxury. It's a well balanced scent. The lily, rose and jasmin are very feminine together. The fruits are subtile enough. It's not a sweet perfume at all. I would describe it as floral, slightly green and musky.

I got this beauty in a blind trade. I like white florals but was skeptical from the reviews. Yes, it's Guerlain. No, it's not Shalimar. But just like every perfume from the house of Chanel cannot be No. 5 nor can it be Coco Mademoiselle... this perfume, while not "innovative" is a gorgeous and luxurious scent on its own. Some people have reviewed it as nothing special (because they expect more from Guerlain) but I disagree. It is rich in lilac and rose and it very beautiful. I feel rather lovely when I put it on. It makes me feel... special and loved. It is very deep and rich. It just received a valuable spot in my top 10. Perfect for warm and hot weather! Move over Chloe Love story.... you've got some summer/spring competition in my beloved collection.

GirlyScientist

I wasn't expecting to like this so much. I picked up a sample of both this and Duet Jasmin-Lilas and thought that I'd prefer the latter. I was looking for something that smelled like the complex florals at the opening of Amouage Dia Woman without turning into all aldehydes. And this comes really quite close (though not as sparkling and complex).

This scent is romantic, lovely, and feminine. I love how the rose rounds out the other florals without totally dominating (though it's definitely a main player). It's gorgeous, I just wish it was slightly more complex.

kati77

Beautiful, floral scent, I feel roses and lily for sure, is also something like lilac and flowers like that.

I had 100ml EDP 5 years ago. Now i have a sample. It is really elegant scent. I have Idylle Duet too. I like both perfumes nearly equally. I could wear this for my weeding day if i will have one someday.

AMBRA GRI

Wow, I really had a flash back smelling Idylle. I did wear something similar in my high-school and student years.interesting that on my native language Fragrantica, there are some reviewers finding Idylle very similar with Comme une evidence by Yves Rocher. And yes, Narciso has a way too creamy drydown to even compare it with the musk in Idylle, although they are both floral chypres, in theory. Idylle keeps a more sharp dry-down, there's no creaminess there. Just like in CuE, you will feel a rose-muguet combo along all its stages.I'm still learning to like it. The opening was really sharp. I do realize that i have a love - hate relationship with lilly of the valley. A must try!

_christine_

Idylle was a fragrance I didn't expect to like because I'm not a huge fan of florals and I love the traditional Guerlainade. Idylle just didn't seem to align with my personal tastes.

To my surprise, I like it more than expected. The florals are certainly powerful, but not overly synthetic or cloying. The rose and lilac cut through the white florals and add a dimension of freshness. There is a heavy musk note that takes Idylle from a boring floral to a more womanly, complex scent.

If you're looking for a floral musk (maybe Narciso Rodriguez didn't work for you), then Idylle is worth a try.

Aerides

This was a very musky floral for me with a prominent jasmine and lilac combination that dries down into something sweet and powdery. It's like a walk through a garden on a hot summer evening filled with moths and chirping crickets. Warm with the promise of an oncoming storm. But like such evenings Idylle can get quite heavy and should be used sparingly.

artsyrn

I feel this fragrance is quite soothing somehow and find myself reaching for it often before bed. I can see the similarity to Narciso Rodriguez because this is pretty heavy in the musk department and also has a gorgeous gentle rose accord. Where Narciso has an almost metalic quality, Idylle is softer and has a bit of sweetness added. Overall, I would describe this perfume as being warm and cozy.

polly golightly

leslee.long.5

Heartbreak for me, this one doesn't mesh with me, leaving me with a somewhat acidic smell of floral fragrance sprayed over B.O. While not rank, it's not pleasant either. The musk just does not do Guerlain justice, allowing it to dominate for too many noses and leaving us with a lot of dislikes.

I had a fierce experience with Narciso Eau de Toilette, so I will count myself lucky. Some animalic and cassis/black currant notes do not work with my chemistry. Not a safe blind buy if you find the same issues at times.

I will be passing this sample on to someone else that can have a better experience with it.

Edit:

I tried to pass this one on to my mother, and she is very easy to please, she could not find her way with this Guerlain either. I admire those that get on well with Idylle but it is not a safe blind buy in my opinion. With mixed feelings over this one, it seems that there are many very good deals out there, definitely test it and scoop up the deals if it's for you.

Nuitdenoel

I have Laura Ashley No. 1 on one wrist and Idylle EDP on the other. I've been going through a floral crave, lately. Let me preface this by saying I love Guerlain. Mitsouko is a staple, Shalimar, Samasara, Champs-Elysees, etc. Of course, sometimes Guerlain can be challenging, so I tried not to have an expectation.

First off, as others have mentioned, I'm not getting any Guerlinade. That's okay, though. Times change and things move on. Compared to the Laura Ashley, Idylle is a dirtier fragrance. More musk in the opening. For the first 10 minutes, I was worried it was going to veer into unpleasant body odor territory, but it has smoothed out.

I know it's supposed to be a rose dominated fragrance but I'm not getting anything that distinctly says "rose." It is very well-blended, to the point where I can't get a distinct note. Very lovely. A lot warmer and sweeter than the Laura Ashley but not "gourmand" sweet. Nothing particularly says fruit to me, either, but that could be the underlying sweetness. It reminds me of a walk through a flower garden (or a park) right after a rainstorm in summer. Warm, flowers, a tad bit ozonic (although I don't think anyone else has mentioned this), just a bit of musk.

I think everyone should try this with an open mind. It's good, and I like it, but I don't love it. I don't know if this is something I would go buy a full bottle of when my sample runs out, but I understand why people love it. I'll wear it on its own tomorrow and update if my opinion changes.

Yessamin

I quote from the tester I found at home:
IDYLLE , a love reverie for one day or forever. A radiant floral chypre scent as fresh and sensual as a mist of flowers on the skin.

I really like this one but somehow I find it is not as strong as I would love. I find it is very subtle and can go unnoticed, which is a shame for such an expensive perfume.

Dort0625

Got this as a sample from an eBay auction I won of perfume samples lot, and I was pumped for this one!!! I love fresh scents, I love green scents and I often love rose scents....So someone please tell me why this is putrid to my nose!!! I have to believe it's that I'm in the last few days of getting over a nasty head cold and that is why things are smelling so strange!!! It was as if it was something my grandmother would have wore in the 80s, stashed samples in her closet and then when my grand father emptied her things after she passed I inherited a shoe box full of old samples and this being one of them!!! It's all I could think of was old yucky likely expired perfume. God what is happening to me, this should be a major hit for me!!! Anyone else experience something like this before???

I totally get it that people compare Idylle with NR for her EDP because the similarity is totally there. However, I find Idylle softer and more wearable. It also reminds me of Elie Saab Le Parfum EDP. They are both in the "nice, safe but kinda boring" category. Wearing Idylle is like dating someone who's very good looking but can't really carry an interesting conversation for more than 10 minutes. I like it, but tend to forget about it after a couple hours after spraying...

alessandra.ferag

At last I could buy a fb 100ml tax-free in a town close to Switzerland! I was so happy! I bought Idylle and my bf bought original Stella for me! So I went back home with two perfumes I love and I wear both!
Both Idylle and Stella smell slightly different on my skin according to days. Or maybe it is just my nose, I don't know. I like Idylle more when the musky edge comes out stronger and lily-of-the-valley is tamed.
Thanksgod, raspberry is not so obvious that overpowers the rest of composition as it happens with so many perfumes with raspberry in them.
I just wished that rose and jasmine were stronger than other flowers.
It's true it reminds of NR, but they're all different in a way like variations on a theme and a variation can make a totally different effect, like in music!
Idylle smells fresher in the beginning and it goes sweeter and sweeter till the end when it smells sweet snuggly musk, not dirty at all nor super-laundry clean. Just perfect. Lasting power could be a little better for an EdP in my opinion, but I noticed that when I don't smell it anymore on myself, others keep smelling it, so be careful!
all in all is a much more modern and simpler Guerlain, not one that provoke upsetting reaction on their own, but it's a very well-made perfume.
I'm very happy with my fb now!

aroooo_albashiti

Flowery musky fresh elegant fragrance
Idyle can't be compared to any other perfume.
I love it

Lovesmells

If you are a guerlanyte ( I made up this), like me, you will not find that pinch here.
It is still a beautiful rose.
You will come very close to it if you smell the NR EDP ( rose bottle in black box). NR is more available to whiff in stores just in case you want to buy the Idylle online.
Both are too similar to replace each other. But if you like rose collections, this is one of them.

LadyIva

This is probably the best flowery scent out there - a bit similar to J'adore, but less synthetic. The dominant note is the rose - and what a beautiful rose it is! - but I can also smell lilac, peony, lily-of-the-valley, jasmine and very subtle patchouli. The fruity notes are almost undetectable, which is a good thing imo! While its sillage is relatively soft, it lasts for hours and hours. Well done Guerlain!

Oriane

First, I get fresh peonies, lilac and lily-of-the-valley. It's springtime all around me. Then, Idylle becomes very musky, very dense. It smells like a finer version of Narciso Rodriguez for Her (perhaps because of its background notes : white musk, patchouli ... And because of the rose and jasmine at the heart). As it dries down, it turns flowery again. The sillage is very refined.

In any case, you have the feeling that you've already smelled this before. Only, Idylle is a luxury scent. Everything is perfectly balanced. Nothing messy. No untidy musk. No synthetic rose. It's very beautiful, if not very original. But why searching for something complicated ? Idylle is so well done from the beginning to the end !

blake.lee

If you're in to uncomplicated but fresh and pretty lily-of-the-valley this is a good one. It's not my style but I think it's beautiful. Warm, soft, dewy lily.

mahlaa

Wwoooooww.....
How can this fragrance play with my heart and soul?!
Such a beautiful scent.
It is almost impossible if you are mad of flowers and sweet scents, you wont like this nice scent.
I get lots of compliments whenever i wear it...
WELL DONE GUERLAIN

Michylaka

Idylle took me by surprise! I acquired a bottle of this from my best friend and I love it. My shrine to Guerlain keeps growing and giving. That is not a bad thing either.

At first this juice reminded me of Estee Lauder's Pleasures which I cannot wear. The strong astringent smell which is ever present in Pleasures chokes me out. I was wrong to judge Idylle. I did because of reviews here and also because upon first application it is explosive of Lily of the Valley and Freesia making it rather astringent. However, thankfully I waited for Idylle to develop and within minutes the Rose and Jasmine notes kicked in to create a more creamy and romantic dimension. At this point I also picked up the Patchouli earthiness. I also detected the fruits Litchi and Raspberry which are not overly sweet but which bring a very subtle sweetness to the bouquet.

As Idylle settles down I pick up even more florals like Lily and Peony. I also detect some of the Musk which is not over the top but beautiful. The dry down is creamy floral with a bit of sweetness and musk. I would say this juice is sophisticated and very feminine. I also am reminded of Chloe Chloe(2009) but this is not nearly as soapy. It is unique for Guerlain being both modern yet romantic. I would say the sillage is heavy for the first half hour than on the dry down it is moderate to light. It lasts for almost five hours on me. I give Idylle a 10/10.

Cauda Pavonis

Nice, pretty. A bit boring but nice and pretty. Maybe I'm being too harsh but I've been trying Guerlain's more classic compositions and this took me by surprise with how humdrum it is, even compared to the flowery Champs Elysees. I'd say that if you want a very well done modern fruity floral, one that's unobtrusive and easy to wear, and you're willing to drop Guerlain prices for the honor, look no further.

Madrona

A beautiful floral. Doesn't inspire me personally, but it does not turn to cat pee on me so yay!

armacoonsum

Idylle is a warm, sunny garden of fowers. Lily of the valley shines in Idylle the way I would like it to in EL's Pleasures... but, in Pleasures, there is just so much... so much that I can't enjoy the horde of florals independently, at all.
Not so with Idylle.
There is this perfect lily of the valley, a gently green rose, a fresh, airy peony... I smell lilac of the sort found in those little square, decoratively wrapped bath tablets from years ago. The jasmine is soft and not the least bit indolic. The only flower I don't sense is the lily, which is fine with me, as lily and I seldom agree.
Idylle dries down to a clean floral musk on my skin.
My only issue is with the price to performance ratio- I'm happy to pay for Guerlain, to get Guerlain sillage and longevity.
Without question, Idylle is a beautifully made perfume. I would love to smell like this often, but if I'm going to make that happen, it will be with a longer lasting, or less expensive facsimile.

ammouna20

i find this perfume annoying, i used to smell it on some friends and i hated it, and then when i asked which perfume they used they told me it was Idyle so i wanted to give it a chance and tried it on me but still couldn't like it at all
it's a waste of money

bronstein

This one is a very contemporary top class feminine scent. If you are looking for a modern all-purpose fragrance, this is the one. It beats any comparable effort by Hugo Boss, Escada and the likes.

"This mottled travesty". Oh, big words... I feel that a review can be pretty much in any shape or form, but I also think a little more than just outrage that something isn´t to one´s own expectations is always... decent. I mean, I have read reviews of fragrances that I adore that haven´t been positive, but what I do like is when and if they HELP me in imagining the scent, describing WHAT the scent is and not what it lacks or isn´t. No one ever promised me or anyone else that there would be "Guerlinade" in anything coming from Guerlain even though I like that aspect in some Guerlains I am not crazy about it. Not because it isn´t a wonderful composition, but because I prefer clean florals. And THAT we have in Idylle. No chypre style here, really, something that I still equate with oak moss, but an absolutely lovely balance of non-screechy lily of the valley, soft and sunny jasmin and romantic and slightly sharp rose. These are the main notes, but what makes it so beautiful to me is the lychee and the lilac! Lychee is my guilty pleasure in perfumes and here it is utterly realistic- like you just popped open one of those white, plump fruits and smelled the rosy fruitiness- wonderful! Lychee is the fruit I smell and I am glad I don´t smell strong raspberry, which is a note that usually seems artificial to me, in perfumes that is. I adore nicely made lilacs that are not soliflores and I also adore the lilac in 5th Avenue by Elizabeth Arden, which also is a beautiful clean floral. I put these two florals in the same category all the way. The musk is high quality in Idylle and the patchouli is subdued and gentle. Idylle is sweeter than I thought when reading the reviews, but is by no means sugary or cloying. I understand the comparison to the Narciso, but I find it much, much gentler AND more romantic. Maybe the Narciso is sexier to some, I could see that. All in all, Idylle has medium silage and lasts a medium long time and it certainly blends well with skin. I think it was genius of Thierry Wasser to create this simple, yet very beautiful and stylish floral when he did! Everything screamed fruitchoulis and dramatic vanilla-laden orientals at the time and I think this will end up being a classic Guerlain just like others, with or without Guerlinade. It´s extremely feminine, sunny and classy.

katemax

my mum gave me a bottle of this that has about 15ml left in it. at first I couldn't place it but as it developed it reminded me of narcisso rodriguez for her, but nicer. I am not a fan of narcisso for her but this is nice enouth. I wont be buying a full bottle but enjoy having a sniff now and then

KarlekLila

Kbot sent me a mini bottle of Idylle. I admit I was skeptical at first as my nose (And chemistry) does not typically do well with white florals or "green" scents. That is gloriously not the case with Idylle! I love it's gorgeous powdery floral aroma. It's faintly green with prominent Lily of the valley and jasmine. I don't detect much fruity raspberry or lychee except when sniffed from the bottle. I love it enough to purchase a full bottle and possibly make it my signature scent! Hopefully someone will swap me for a full bottle of this precious juice before it's discontinued.

Venusia

I am a spring child and a white flowers lover. Am also a bit over 35. That being said I find this scent pure heaven! Lilly of the valey, fresia, rose and peony are killing me softly and slowly to the phase where it smells like litchi softly sweet NR, and to my lucky skin far better and more complex than NR. Perfectly done patchouli with musk combination. I don't get where the "old lady" part hides in this scent. It is simply classy and elegant and with no doubt youthfull enough for any happy age! Idylle is by name an experience for young souls! forget the body :)

gardeniapetunia

I recently sampled this and spent several days analyzing it, wearing it constantly. First, how nice it is when that happens, a love at first sniff. Of course, that does happen, but then usually for me, love goes wrong.
What I primarily like about this is the lily of the valley. It's delightful and soft, not in your face the way some are, such as Jessica McClintock.

Idylle is also, to my nose, considerably different that NR's For Her, which I have. The pronounced muskiness of For Her is absent as is the strength.
Idylle is softer, although not powdery, fresher, cleaner, lighter. I much prefer it.
The whole business of thinking something is LIKE something else is tricky, it can make me not want to try Another one, but it's often not that way. I read over and over how Lovely was a less expensive version of For Her, so I bought it, disliked it and never got around to trying For Her, thinking it would be the same. Eventually, I did try it and loved it.
Idylle is that way, it's unique in it's own way and worth trying no matter what it's compared to.
It's beautiful.

jacmac

Fresh, creamy and a bit soapy. A pretty white floral, white musk style. The white musk reminds me of Shalimar Souffle. A good spring/summer scent, or whenever you feel like a fresh Guerlain, suitable for work, a wedding, or whenever you want to smell pretty but not stand out. Interesting that a lot of the same notes are listed as Champs-Elysees, but I find that one much too floral. The musk in this one makes it creamier.

Hippyhop2

In my opinion Guerlain makes beautiful perfumes. Noticeable, well-blended and some very unique. This one is a floral one I can handle. Usually fragrances with lots of flowers give me a headache. This one doesn't. It's fresh, a bit sharp, elegant, a real flower bouquet. It' s very ladylike and sophisticated.

It' s ideal for spring... Weddings... Like when wearing an ivory chiffon dress on one of the first spring days...

I like it better each time I wear it.

Soofiya

A lovely silky floral scent...it smells like love..I'm eagerly waiting for spring to buy it and enjoy this amazing heavenly juice of sweet florals and musk;which shows itself more and more as time passes(but not as it's prominant in narciso edp)
I can't detect fruity notes and don't have any problems with this cause floral notes aren't boring
I also can feel something like a soft non-animalic bright honey note which sweetens the scent in a special way
The sillage is moderate but I'm ok with this because of the lovely flowery sweet trail of it
Edit:
I bought a full bottle of it couple of weeks ago,I still believe it is how a charming beautiful woman should smell specially during springs, but I can't find out what nauseats me this much in this gorgeous scent, but every thing is lovely when i spray it only two or three puffs so an advice:if you love this scent but you feel suffocating when you fullwear it,just don't overspray
Now I can detect litchi in it and I think this honey like, bright sweetness is because of litchi,I can detect rose, peony, jasmine, lily of the valley, lilac, patchouli and musk in it too.this is a real glorious floral bouquet
Second edit:
I believe it's more similar to Narciso l'eau than Narciso for her edp
Unfortunately I don't think I love it as I loved it when I used it's sample.it's too sharp, too strong and cloying for me.afterall I think I can't get along well with perfumes with strong lily of the valley
Third edit:
Finally I decided to give it away.it's powerful, sexy and feminine but not for me.it was very sharp and heavy floral for my taste.I find Estee lauder pleasure bloom a lighter version of this which I could enjoy without feeling suffocated

Elviraelbasan

Beautiful aroma, has a lot if similiarities with narcisso , but has that guerlain touch .
I wish to have e bottle of this asap .
By the moment i can enjoy inly the mini :-)

Nannu

Classic Jasmine

Beckylynn8881

Beautiful fragrance, but unfortunately it doesn't last long on me. Granted I do have the mini where you have to dab it on, but usually about 6 dabs around my whole neck does the trick with most of my minis...maybe spraying it would make it last longer. However, it's similar enough to Narciso Rodriguez for her, which does last a long time, so I prefer that.

Maryamsoh

My wedding perfume

mahlaa

A very professional blend of flowers...It is so feminine. It gives me the feeling of relaxation whenever i wear it.Although in my openion it is more suitable to use for ladies about 35 but i cant wait to get that age.The sillage is moderate and the longevity is so so.Try it friends:)

kbot

Right out of the gate I found this scent intoxicating--lush floral, although not as much rose as I had expected based on recommendations I've read here, but I didn't mind because the strong lily/jasmine/white floral notes all work in such elegant harmony. Unfortunately, it loses that complexity quickly on my skin, and I'm getting less of the other notes and more prominent lily/powder combo as it dries down. Thinking I might enjoy it more mixing it with rosewater moisturizer or rose oil...

UPDATE: So I mixed this with a little of the Annick Goutal Rose Absolue sample that I had and LOVED/am lusting after the combo. Just needed to kick up the rose note a notch or two and suddenly it made the Idylle sing. Am getting full sizes of both and am also going to experiment with other less expensive rose notes.

miletas89

Smells just like Narciso Rodriguez for Her, except with a faint touch of a Guerlinade in the drydown. Why?? Why recreate a perfume that's been done before? Where's your originality? The pride in your house, Guerlian? It actually smells fantastic, but is a huge disappointment.

momo363

My perfume is EDP!!!
Thank you dears for your reply

Antares811

@hadassa, I have both - EDP and EDT - and the bottles are the same.

hadassa

@momo, maybe you have Idylle EDT, not EDP. Eau de toilette bottles don't have metal coating

Antares811

@momo, sometimes the metal piece remains in the cap.

momo363

Hi dears
My idylle EDP does not have metal on its glass !!!!! Do you know the reason ?

carolinencarter

I tried this one today, still searching for "the one". i like how this fragrance just melts into the skin. very warm and comforting dry down. there is a note that i have smelled in a perfume before and love, i can only describe it as warm smelling, almost like... baked clay? or stones in the sun? i can't put my finger on it.
i do like this but i just don't think its quite a signature scent.

Kmam

I do not like this one on me at all. The raspberry note runs out of control and gives it a sour edge initially. As it dries down it gets a little more complex, but its not worth it for the screechy start. It's a shame as, reading these reviews, it must be lovely on others.

Unusually for a Guerlain, it has great longevity on me; too bad I don't like the scent that much!

dalenbaby

It is lightly and feminine.

amirali0072000

Loving it at the time being in a very romantic mood. Lovely...A beautiful mature floral!

Hubby bought this for at a duty-free in his way home. There was a previous review from a woman who said she was approached by 2 gentlemen while wearing this scent who asked what the perfume was because they wanted to buy it for their wives. Well, she was right in asserting that Idylle was likely a perfume men would like their wives to wear. Curious, as it is normally not a scent I would purchase for myself. The intoxicating floral opening of roses with chypre undertones was too confronting for me when I tried this at a counter a few years ago. So when I saw the bottle he bought recently, I was already gearing myself to be wearing a scent that wasn't me.
Imagine my surprise when upon spraying myself with it the second time a few years later, that very same opening was not too invasive to my senses. Rather, I "saw" the perfume with its complex layers of rose, patchouli (which I also grew to love) and chypre. I guess as my olfactory senses changed, so did my taste. Smells that were too strong and indolic for me years ago djd not seem so anymore. I love the drydown with musk and sweetness coming through. However, it only lasted 4 hours on me, a shame. But I now understand why men would buy this for their wives - rose, patchouli (aromas normally associated with love). I wear it everyday because he loves it on me, but more importantly, because I love it on me too!

basgam

I tried Idylle when in the fall I was searching for a warmer scent for myself. I remember I sprayed it first on a card and (almost) fell in love with it. Lilly of the valley and other flowers bouquet. Nevertheless, on my skin it turned a bit spicy and I disliked it. Lasts pretty long, I'd say.

neshat

smells like heaven..

margarita.angelova

Mature is definitely the word for this perfume - without any negative connotations. It's a classic, confident musky lily of the valley scent and my initial thought was that it smelled like something my grandmother used to wear. I'm going to buy Idylle for her. I like it a lot, but I don't see myself wearing it, it's one idea too serious.

It is similar to For Her by Narciso Rodriquez at first but if you compare them side by side as I'm doing now, you'll see that soon they start to develop very differently. Narciso is lighter and fresher, soapy even compared to Idylle. They meet again towards the drydown.

hyperfluff

This is a beautiful elegant scent. The opening is stunning with the rose, litchi and freesia, grabbed me by my nose hairs and captured my heart that I almost wanted to buy it on the spot. A good thing I waited though. The drydown is beautiful too, a big romantic musky bouquet...BUT it does not suit me, feels too heavy and somewhat sharp, and most unfortunately, it brought on a migraine attack over the course of a couple hours wear...I had this same reaction to Narciso Rodriguez EDT (black bottle), that one induced a headache in me as well. On the other hand Narciso Rodriguez EDP (pink) is just perfect on me, smooth all the way, no sharpness, no headaches...Anyway, I don't think NR EDP and Idylle smell that much alike. Idylle is more formal, complex and mature, sharper and 'richer'. NR EDP more tender and peachy/sweeter.

Trying to figure out why NR EDT and Idylle both have the same headache-inducing effect on me...maybe both have a higher concentration of synthetic musk compared to the more 'dilute' NR EDP (hence their superior sillage+longevity to NR EDP)? That's what I think.

Sandra Smells Scents-uous

IDYLLE is a powdery, white flower bouquet that showcases a creamy, sweet litchi. This scent is ideal for the spring and has outstanding longevity and sillage. You only need a couple sprays, more would be overwhelming.

Interestingly, today two separate men asked me what I was wearing so they could buy it for their wives. This scent is very elegant and timeless. I understand why a man who cherishes his wife would like to smell her in this perfume. IDYLLE is for a beautiful, adored woman.

victoria.mei1992

I don't know, smell was very sour, maybe tester was old, cause just maybe 4 mils was left. I would like to test this second time, cause bottle is so cute :)

AnnaT

There is certain similarity with say for her and lovely. I reserve for her and lovely to winter since it may come across too heavy esp in office. But idylle is lighter, clearer. I can wear that in winter autumn and spring. I just love love the scent that for her lovely and idylle represents. So elegant so soft sodelicate so vulnerable and feminine. I am glad to have idylle so I can wear something very seductive outside winter!

victoria.mei1992

Smells very sour and watery. Almost like puke. Maybe tester was old, I don't know. Similar to Jour d`Hermes Absolu Hermes.

pauroj

it is similar to narciso but this is a diluted version of the EDT , is ok but nothing to write home about , if you can't find narciso then i guess this will do

thesheppardess

I usually like Guerlain frags and I love the fragrance of hyacinths, lilac, and lilies. Unfortunately they are too much for me to keep indoors. This fragrance presents the same challenge for me. Too much of a good thing.
Idylle is full of lily of the lily and other white flowers. I can't get past those notes to detect anything else.
Very much a sweet, strong, floral.

giasan

My favourite perfume, floral, special. This is the best combination lily of the valley and roses.

Niya

The opening is beautiful! But the drydown to me smells like Valentina by Valentino which I already own. :( Shame! Good thing I only got the 35ml bottle.

Too much and I get a headache,
but used lighty I get a wonderful boquet of flowers, just beautiful !
Excellent sillage & longevity as well.
A Lily of the Valley & Jasmine delight !
No Patchouli or Raspberry noticeable on me.

Perfect name, perfect house, perfect bottle, perfect opening, perfect dry down, perfect aura. Just one problem for me. On my skin it smells exactly like N.R. for her, which I already own, so it's a crying shame. Maybe edt version is what I should consider testing(?)

My second review on Idylle… the first one was written on impulse after I tried a dab from the miniature I was given. I was shocked at how familiar the scent was – it was that of a long forgotten fragrance I used to wear as a teenager! The familiarity led me to start dabbing Idylle on each night before bed and I’ve quickly grown to love it. It’s surprising me so much though as I’m not a fan of florals at all and, to me, this is very floral! Reading everyone else’s reviews, and the listed notes on Fragrantica, I see there is fruit and maybe it’s the fruit that has won me over even though I’m not picking it up as distinctive notes myself. Anyway, as I said, I get loads of sweet, fresh florals in this fragrance but there is a creamy, warm, sweet note that just melts my heart. Whatever this note is, I feel it is just bordering on being too heady and cloying for me but it never quite crosses the line – thankfully! I think I need to research a bit to try and work out what this notes is – it’s entrancing to me… I think it’s some type of floral. I do feel that this would be a perfume that most people would like (mind you – it doesn’t seem to be the way when reading these reviews!) because florals seem to be the most popular fragrance group generally and this is definitely floral but it also appears to be winning over ‘non-floral’ people as well. Beautiful, feminine, elegant and fresh is how I would describe it. I think the full bottle I’ve ordered will be taking pride of place amongst my collection.

Oh why, why did they have to put the litchi and strawberry there?! It is a lovely floral, and those fruity notes make it more full-bodied and delicious than just a bouquet of flowers, but the litchi makes me a bit sick. Oh well...

Bruxadomar

I like this one but it doesn't last!

Idylle is just another proof that we must REVISIT scents we didn't like back "then". I remember when its came out and I just arrogantly walked away from it in the House Of Fraser with a shrug of my shoulders.
Now I sit with this sample spray asking myself why, why, WHY I didnt buy it long ago, since its so beautiful.
Underestimated even by Guerlain fans.
About Thierry Wasser I also was thinking as about fantastic manager of the House and not a fantastic perfumer, really ashamed, since another his creature Flora Rosa Allegoria is recently surprised me as well. Behind simplicity of his compositions, - what you can see/smell straight away and make conclusion based on two-three notes, something quite fascinating is happening afterwards. Wasser does prolongation of each seemingly airy note. they all sing sopranos but suddenly it turns into whole alto chorus and he really does fresh florals like noone else.
Noble fragrance. And does not smell as any of Rodriguezes on me, more like Bond 9 Madison Square Park.

One of my personal favorite fragrances ever, very elegant classy refreshing and noble I just love and been using it on and off scine it's release :)

jalhumid92

Very lovely floral, with lily dominating. I feel like I'm walking through a lush and abundant garden when I smell this fragrance. I really like the drydown, and this may seem peculiar but it reminds me of freshly washed linens, still warm from the dryer.

Wow! This is so bizarre! I received a miniature of this when I bought a couple of Guerlain full bottles of other fragrances... I've just dabbed some on and instantly had a flashback to my early teens! This is reminding me of a fragrance I loved as a young teenager - I wore it heaps prior to getting myself addicted to Lou Lou. I think it was the Australis perfume but I've just googled it and I can not find any trace of the perfume I remember (i.e: the bottle I see in my mind)... It appears that the Australis brand is now mainly makeup and the few fragrances they do look like body sprays rather than perfumes. At this stage I really can't describe the fragrance - for me it is way to much of an emotional response to identify notes! Anyway, this 'flashback' response is so strong that I think I'll be indulging in more Idylle so I can relive this experience more often!

I really want to like this because I respect the house of Guerlain, but this is just so overpriced and boring, I can't get over it. I went to a launch party for it in 2009 when it came out, and I was really underwhelmed. It's a pretty floral, but it's just so basic and uninteresting. I can't believe it's come from Guerlain who has made some really classic scents. This one is very forgettable, but if you must try the EDT, it's better than the EDP or Parfum. This is just like sad flowers to me, and ends up smelling like toilet bowl cleaner.

craftyminx

Blah. Too floral, and on me it wasn't any one of the floral notes, just a too-sweet synthetic muddle. I've never had to scrub a Guerlain before, but this one I did.

Idylle is my first purchase from the Guerlain house, and while I tried different perfumes from the house it became quite clear why Idylle is such a classic favorite. Even with a distinct combination of old-age rose and white flowers, it would definitely charm those who are not particularly a fan of white floral fragrances. There are so many things that Idylle nailed perfectly - the rose is aging and old and not fresh, jasmine and lilies mild and not cloying, patchouli just enough to be indulgent and not imposing..

Opens with a delightful embrace of rose, rounded with patchouli and musk on me, and develops to release a bouquet of white flowers, pleasant and engaging, never too sweet. I love how the fragrance develops in stages and settles to patchouli-musk-faint raspberry notes. Lingers around on me for about 6-7 hours and then needs re-spraying.

A great find, for me. The full-bottle price in India is steep, but with such a classy and timeless fragrance you just don't mind splurging :)

AuraeliaBee

I got a decant of this because I've had bad past experiences with guerlain and didn't know what to expect. To my surprise, this is actually the only perfume that I truly enjoy from initial spray to the dry down. It's never heavy, sharp or over-powering no matter how much I put on.

What comes to mind whenever I smell this: fresh, feminine, classy, demure, elegant, sophisticated.

Will definitely be purchasing a full bottle when the decant is all used up.

kagisho

am a guy and I love this on women. Its sophisticated, top notes can be bit complex to one's nose. after a while it goes beyond just smelling, its more like u feel it. as if there is a tangible soft presence of the smell. In a nutshell I jus think it is not for beginners. Its sophisticated in a contemporary way I think.

tubereuse

Idylle smelled so beautiful on paper and on initial spritz to my arm. BUT, suddenly and literally within less than a record two minutes, it turned to a rank BO smell. What, what?? The chemistry thing perhaps......the saleslady was wearing this and it smelled soooo good on her! Maybe it was the sunscreen underneath or maybe my skin. Either way, out of the bottle this is such a fabulous floral that i'm going to give this another chance again :)

imochy

Idylle is such a beauty..

Blast of roses at the opening before finally a bouquet of pretty jasmine and white flowers scent takes over. And when the jasmine fades, musky patchouli lingers.

One word: Pretty.

This is undeniably a pretty scent, but unfortunately, there is nothing that is very special about this perfume either.

The scent is very soft, thus it can't give you enormous, intense sillage. Certainly, this beauty can only be enjoyed by you and a person who is very close to you.

As a note, this is a Guerlain's classic.
Better not miss it ;)

Fioletowy

I want this so bad. I tried it recently as I was passing through the perfume department of my local store but I didn't have time to linger long enough to justify the expense to myself. I will have to wait.
I love Guerlain scents but, with the exception of L'Heure Bleu (bought in the 90s) I never buy them because they all have that, what I call, "Guerlain signature". I don't know what the ingredient is - I think of it as oily - but it puts me off. L'Heure Bleu had it too, of course, but it didn't seem to matter and it doesn't with this one, either.
I didn't smell any fruit which suits me because I don't like fruity smells.

Sylvie-Aus

I have the exact same experience and scent than sjam3295 , it's a synthetic raspberry which does not evolved in any dry down, I bought a big bottle of it and unable to wear it. Tried manny times, it is unbearable, even got a friend trying it on, I smelled the same unpleasing generic / synthetic scent of her too. Such a shame & bizarre ! Kinda glad to read I am not the only one !

mabelcruet

Beautiful fragrance-I love the way Guerlain always manages to stay on the good side of sweetness without overstepping into sickly sweetness. This is a light floral fragrance-a definite presence without being dominating. Initially there is a very slight berry note but its not fruity or too sweet, and rose is more dominant. it settles to a evanescent lily of the valley with some musk for a bit of body. Its summery, gentle and ladylike. Longevity is quite poor on me, lasting about 3 hours. The bottle is gorgeous-sort of shimmering and glistening.

sjam3295

Noses are strange things. The dominant note for me in this is a rather synthetic raspberry which sits next to the rose, and they're are not enjoying each other's company.

However, other people who smell this ON ME talk about a lovely floral, rose and musk, slightly woody. I WISH I could smell what they are smelling! Unfortunately, I just can't - curse my nose! Ah, well, the world is full of wonderful perfumes that I do like smelling.

Hellita

One of my absolute favorites of all time. Classic, elegant, fresh and feminine. Can't go wrong with this one (unless you overspray) and IMO it's good for every occasion. I will repurchase Idylle once I've used up my Idylle Eau Sublime (because I love them both). Longevity is good, sillage is perfect! SPOT ON, Guerlain! <3

moreorlessa

This is just lovely, a sophisticated, elegant, delicate and versatile musky floral, no sweetness, very distinct but light enough that it can be worn anywhere, though it makes you feel like a million bucks. If you like SPJ Lovely or Narciso Rodriguez For Her, they are all in the same family (I guess some are calling it "modern" chypres, but they are not actually chypres...still, gotta love 'em!).

julieekerr

a pretty floral perfume. prefer the lila jasmin duet version as it is a bit different and this one is rather too popular

redpsylocke

There are parfumes that smell great on their own. They have their own characters and they even surpress your own skin smell and give you their own smell. They are generally far away from inoffensive or being ofice smells. Guerlain Idyll is not one of them. This parfume has its own beautiful floral musky secent but once you start wearing it, it blends so gut with your skin chemistry and becomes something far more nice smelling than its own smell. I use it on the tips of my hair after i have shower and it makes my hair smell so gut till my next hairwash. The longevity is just great on my skin, too. To be honest it smells on my skin way better when i am not freshly showered. Parfume's notes are already given and I smell musky rose blended beautifully with jasmin (and i also got berries) as registered. Like all other guerlain parfumes they are natural essential oils and I guess that is the reason it blends so beautifully with my skin and causes no rashes or dry patches like some other parfumes. It is my signature smell because the parfume blends so gut with my skin chemistry and becomes something sophisticated, classy, charming and smooth but still me.
