The new fragrance from the Italian fashion house Gianfranco Ferré, Gianfranco Ferré L'Uomo, comes out in September 2016. Announced as simple and elegant, strong and refined, the scent aims at the perfect gentleman. It is dedicated to the men's fashion collections of the house, first introduced in 1982 and often inspired by uniforms.

The composition is announced as a fresh oriental, developed by perfumer Nicolas Beaulieu. It opens with sharp and spicy notes of bergamot, ginger, cardamom and black pepper. The heart provides long-lasting freshness with violet, artemisia, sage and green apple. The base consists of extracts of sandalwood, Spanish cedar, moss, amber and vanilla.

Matthew Zorpas, a Greek blogger who lives in London, is selected to represent the fragrance. The fragrance is available as a 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

KokuBombasi

biraz genel biraz baharatlı ama her halükarda 25 yaşından büyüklere önerebileceğim bir koku. performansı beni üzüyor olsa da burnuma gelen kokudan memnunum.

SCASH

My family bought this one. First I didn't like it as I found it very generic, but I started wearing it to test it. I can say, this is the most complimented fragrance I ever had (By girls). One time I was at school, and one girl acted like crazy trying to find who was smelling like that all over the yard and I am not joking. I had a lot of crazy compliments from this and this fragrance and I have tied this smell with amazing life experiences. Right now I feel like this is the most unique smelling fragrance in the world. I am not suggesting you should buy it if you are a fragrance snob.

swang

mature in a good way, peppery and clean smelling, youngsters wont be able to pull it off, 35 years and up, smells good, no for the price its a steal, no brainer for an older dude that means business, and for the price man... its a steal, serious. sometimes you just want to smell good without Carliles Aventuses and redTobbacos, and this juice does the shit :)

moondawn

it was heavily discounted so I bought it purely because of that along with several other products. it's alright. the scent profile is so familiar that any negative feedback should come mostly from those with 100+ fragrances in their collection. which means, it's going to please pretty much everyone except those who turned this hobby into obsession (which is plenty of us tbf). the performance isn't really there which is expected at this price point - 15 euros, come on. I get about 2 to 3 hours of meaningful projection and that's it. after that, someone would have to hug you to be able to smell it. for your typical summer freshie that would be acceptable because the scent would be easier to notice with only your t-shirt on, but this is more for early spring, fall and winter. but like I've said, 15 euros. no point in being harsh at that price + I didn't even need it anyway. there's certainly no regrets here, it's a solid like and safe choice for gift as well because of the familiar scent profile.

Fresh, aromatic, a bit fruity and sweet but not too. It smells like chinotto, or herbal tea with vanilla brown sugar, or chai with cream. There's a pleasant creaminess under the aromatics. It's bright Italian style, not dark, vibrates high with the gassy violet. It takes me back to riding around in college on sunny autumn afternoons with a girl who drove a Fiat Pininfarina Spider.

If you are in the market for a sweet fragrance without breaking the bank, but with good overall quality, Gianfranco Ferrè L'Uomo can definitely be something to consider. It opens with a some spicy/sweet accord where the black pepper is not overly bright, the cardamom flirts nicely with some citrusy notes (I can't exactly smell bergamot) elevated by a nice sweet ginger, before moving into the middle notes where a sweet apple and faint violet accord is almost immediately overshadowed by the very sweet drydown - mostly sandalwood and vanilla, with what I would say are some amber notes. Something in this fragrance remided me a bit of Burberry London for Men.

I don't get any green or herbal vibes from the artemisia or the sage, not to mention the moss; I mostly get a pleasantly rich and sweet scent, which lasts particularly long (more than 8 hours on my skin) and without the cloying drydown some sweet scents have. It also projects very nicely for 3/4 hours. My bottle's batch code is 10K95H1. Talking about the bottle, it comes in a very elegant dark blue-to-transparent gradient, though the plastic "carbon fiber" cap is a bit tacky.

The problem with GF L'Uomo is just that you surely have already smelled the same in other fragrances, countless of times. If we consider it's price - online can be found for very cheap - it may be a serious contender vs more known brands and fragrances, otherwise it would be mostly a duplicate in your collection. If you are interested in cheapies, I would say it's a must have. People will not be displeased with it; you'll get compliments almost surely; but don't look for the wow factor here. All things considered, to me, it's a like.

This is one of the worst scents I've ever blind bought.

A generic, sweet-smelling mess that I highly dislike.

The note breakdown looked so great, and just read the other reviews! So I blind bought it. But do not be fooled. You will perceive nothing from the notes listed, and instead get a simple dusty/woody sweet scent with a touch of greenness. Reminds me of a bad version of D&G The One.

The entire thing smells cheap and nasty. Do yourself a favor and avoid!

literally smells like lynx africa. I don't really understand why people are writing poems about how complex it is.

Later on the review, I will make a comparison with Blue De Chanel, you will understand why.

Gianfranco Ferrè is quite famous here in Italy but I never had the chance to smell one of his fragrances, and this has been the first one I've ever tried.

L'uomo is a blue fragrance, it fits the same category of Y!, BDC, Dylan Blue etc.. So if you are a frag head in love with niche stuff, go on with your day, this is not the kind of stuff you'd appreciate.

It is quite linear, it evolves at a certain point and it reminds me of some other fragrances but in a very subtle way, something that you would pick up if you smell closely.

Being a blue fragrance, it works pretty much for every occasion and it is highly versatile, but to me, it is a very good dating scent that would work amazingly if you want to make a very good impression with your significant other. It is fresh, masculine, gentlemanish, not youthful but modern, it has attitude.

Longevity very good, on my skin 6-7 hours, projection 4-5 hours, you can smell it easily, it is not offensive and I've received multiple unsolicited compliments. For something that you can easily find on a range of 18-30€ you can't ask more.

Later on, in the dry down, it has some nuances of two fragrances. After 1-2 hours has something of Chanel Platinum Egoiste ( probably the combo amber/sandalwood/cedar which both have), and in the far dry down when it sits closer to the skin has something of David Beckham Classic Blue. Not a clone, not the same scents, simply it reminds me a bit of those two in different stages of the scent.

Now, the comparison with BDC and why:
I was going to buy a new bottle of BDC cause mine is basically over, and while I was giving a look to various fragrances I accidentally tried L'Uomo among many others.
Even if they are both blue fragrances, they are not similar, but they do the same things. As much as I will always love BDC, honestly, paying that price for something that requires to be re-applied every hour and a half, it is a waste of money. So I decided to get this one instead of a new bottle of BDC.
L'uomo does the same thing, with better performance and at a lower price. Quality is good ( Obviously BDC is top tier ) and it doesn't even need to be re-applied, you spray it and you are okay for all night. Why waste 80-100 bucks when with 25 I have a 100ml bottle that will last for months !?
It has become my signature scents in the last weeks and I cannot recommend it more, for casual wear or at work or for dating. It works gentlemen, try it out!

Gianfranco Ferré's fashion is italian perfection. His fragrances usually also are awsome. L'uomo is no exception. Not heavy nor sweet but a real high class fragrance for men. I guess 25-90 gentlemen. I love both the bottle & smell. First sniff made me think of Givenchy. Hours later I would describe it as a soft fresher Guerlain l'habbit rouge with a very little bit of Dior's Fahrenheit on a drydown flirting with Chanel's Egoiste! Conclusion; avoid it if you dislike those fragragrances & go for it if liking one of those. Wearing it by day or during the summer is very possible, see it as your clothes & activities. Just not recommended as a fresh sporty summer cologne!

As others mention, this is solidly crafted and a great bang for your buck. Nicely blended scent whose only negative is its similarity to other popular scents (Y, Dylan Blue, etc). longevity is good, sillage is fair after the first hour. Good versatility

jadenlaw9zxc

Projection and longevity is beast Mode. I use 2 sprays from 7.30 am and still get whiff at 4pm. Projection definitely last for 3-4 hours, and longevity last for 8 hours and above with no problem. If you love Dior sauvage, Abercrombie first instinct, you’ll definitely love this. With this price, this power, this quality. It’s my best cheapie discover in 2019, thanks to cubaknow

fanzypants

Oh man...Thanks to previous reviewers. You influenced me to blindbuy and it's my favourite for 2019 so far!

This fragrance was what I was looking for. It's got that old school (Quorumish vibe) with an added musk and locker room citrus-wood mix that's found in a lot of designer frags today (e.g. Dylan Blue, Chanel BDC, Jimmy Choo for Men, etc.).

It reminds me of my Grandpa who used to wear Paco, Quorum and Polo. It also reminds me of Gucci pour Homme; but with the tobacco intensity of the original D&G pour Homme as well. I'd say that's due to the Moss, Cedar and Ginger.

I love this - new signature for all except really hot days or really cold nights. Amazing.

Im coming to the point in my life that is very difficult for me to get really impressed by new scents anymore. Saw this one for dirt cheap, and well, took the plunge. When I finally test it, something not common happened. I got extremely impressed from the scent, and it’s been a long time since that happened to me!. It is a sweet violet, very wet and alive, with some spices there, and then it dries down to a semi sweet Woody and vanilla scent. Not dark, there is still freshness there. In a way, the gradient of color in the bottle shows how the actual scent behaves. Not really blue, but from almost transparent to a darker scent. It’s beyond me how this superb scent is not recognizable in the community at all!. Long lasting and projects for 3-4 hours. So......this quickly became one of my top 10 scents at the moment, top 5 really!. Impressive, nothing else to add.

The bottle to this is oddly similar to Yves Saint Laurent's Y! Eau de Parfum, which was released two years after Gianfranco Ferre's L'Uomo. Though this may be completely coincidental, the fragrance clearly fits into the same group or category of fragrances as the Y! Eau de Parfum. It is a modern, semi-sweet, fresh aromatic woody fragrance with oriental qualities which keep it on an elegant, powdery slant. The opening note is immediately fresh--conjuring a violet accord that is almost-fruity with a clean tanginess and bright sweetness that drives it forward. It's enveloped by softer, more cloudy, powdery accords, an aromatic cardamom lending its characteristically sweet spiciness and an amber/vanilla tandem that gives it a cushioned effect and something of an oriental touch. Ultimately, L'Uomo is a woody fragrance, and the entire structure is built around its sandalwood backbone, a robust accord that is extremely smooth and substantial given its synthetic roots. It's very well done. The fact that there's NO norlimbanol here is relieving. That scratchy, aggressively woody chemical woody-amber that's everywhere these days is absent here, and you can see how much better the result is when the perfumer chooses an alternative route.

What's nice about L'Uomo is that despite its familiarity (it does resemble several popular modern men's scents) it's very well executed. Overall it's smooth and pleasant, with robust notes and accords that perform more than competently. Were this arranged in a blind-sniff against other fragrances such as YSL L'Homme, Invictus, D&G The One, Chrome Pure, Boss Bottled, Y! and Armani Code, it would most likely fare well against them, as it exhibits a better performance than perhaps all and is also on par as far as smoothness, construction, and enjoyability. At $25 it's a bargain, and if you're looking for something like the 7 fragrances I just mentioned, and have access to sampling L'Uomo as well, don't leave it out, as it could just as easily be your favorite among them as any other.

While I enjoy this and think it's a solid fragrance, I'm not so sure that I'll keep it in the long term. Its familiarity is its downside, which is why I think enthusiasts will most likely let this one pass unnoticed as they probably already own something like L'Homme or Code, or at the least have smelled something similar many times before. Still, for those who are new to fragrances, L'Uomo has the potential to be very successful, unhindered by its lack of originality and actually showing some degree of superiority within its category. Final rating: 8/10 and recommended for sampling for those in the market for a fresh, woody oriental.

Side note: For $25 you're also getting a great presentation. The shaded gradient of blue that vertically spans the bottle looks fantastic in the right light, while the front is embossed with a nice, sturdy metal logo, as opposed to a sticker, which is par for the course these days (some even being affixed crookedly). I'm not crazy about the cap's design itself, but at least it's solid, and it's not loose or flimsy at all.

L'Uomo a Surprising Scent

SOTD: Gianfranco Ferre L'Uomo: As of 01/12/19

A surprising and awesome Oriental woody scent caught me off guard, to my nose I scent the sandalwood, vanilla, violet, pepper and a hint with ginger & cardamom in the background. But I scent more the sandalwood, violet and vanilla from start to finish. An awesome scent and a vanilla, violet and sandalwood bomb. A must have

Scent: 8.25/10

My SOTD (Scent of the Day): Gianfranco Ferre L'Uomo EDT: As of 02/27/19

Revisiting this scent as my SOTD as of 02/27/19, my 2nd wearing of this fragrance. A surprising scent for me it has that A&F First Intinct/First Instinct Extreme similar vibe/scent. My nose detects the vanilla, sandalwood and violet which dominates from the opening and the dry down, but I do detect on the top note the bergamot, ginger, cardamom and hint of the black pepper. A great and superb scent and a hidden gem, and as well a great value/bargain. Longevity/Performance is 9 out of 10, lasted on my skin as a skin scent around 10-12+ hrs and my overall score is still the same 8.25 out of 10. It will be in my rotation for spring/summer and is a must a have.

enevictor

Got it as a blind buy, tested it for 3 days..

The smell is WOW! It's a woodier version of YSL L'Homme. There is a gingery-violet vibe in the opening that turns into a spicy-sandalwood smell. I love this!!

However, this is one of my worst performers.. Longevity is 4-6 hours on my skin and the projection is soft, maybe moderate in the opening. The upside is that you can't overspray this one.

I would say it's a great date fragrance: soft-spicy-woody and slightly floral.

EDIT:
I can get up to 10h out of it if I spray twice the spot

Bullrider23

I have to agree with simpa256, this scent is a beast! The top notes of bergamot, ginger, cardamom, and black pepper gives this fragrance a punch in the gut. I've worn it during the summer nights, but I think it's better suited for the fall and winter. A modern and manly fragrance for the mature gentleman.

hverduyckt

I have bought this based on the reviews here and I must say, I feel disappointed.

smell ok but no sillage or longetivity....

weird.

Maybe the smell will get beter when it's get older ?

pistyv

This is awesome. Sometimes it's like the well known scent - first instinct- but more mature, more gentleman"ish" for me. Maybe it's just the skin feelin'. I like it. Another best scent for me - with trussardi riflesso.

simpa256

This has a beastly performance and silage. The best way to describe this would be, a cross between The One and Invictus. When you first spray The One EDP, that first fruity balsamic sweetness... this is it. Just without the tobacco but the same smooth and sweet balsamic smell. What I mean by balsamic is that it's not punching you in the head, not harsh but ultra smooth. And it projects, oooo yes. It fills up any room you come in and it keeps filling it for 2 hours. It projects for 4 hours minimum, and even more if there is a breeze of wind. Lasts 12+ hours easily, even after in can be felt quite good, not even smelling directly off the skin but few inches away. Sticks to you like a glue.

It has a hint of that Invictus sweetness but not too much. So, a fruity aspect of The One EDP opening and a bit of Invictus sweet. It is pretty much like that all the way, very lineral, from the first spray to the dry down. The same sweet, non offensive, not in your face frag that projects and lasts. Could work in any season, any occasion. Simple mass pleaser. If you like especially The One EDP, Invictus, Bvlgari Atlantiqve, Sauvage... frags like that, you will love this.

Every woman I've asked said only that this frag is sooo freaking good, but when they smelled it closely, all said... it's just way too strong. That is a good thing, meaning it will last and you won't have to reapply. Woody and sweet and a bit fresh. I mostly get from this is vanilla, woody and that amber. Citrus notes aren't that noticeable.

Note: After more testing this is very very close to AF First Instinct.

readymadepv

Confident and sexy, cold and clean, intense and elegant with a retro chic touch, reference to the legendary 80's and the great masculine perfumes of that time. However the final result of a beautiful and well balanced composition is very contemporary. The design of the bottle is quite interesting, too.
Longevity and sillage are really good. 7/10
