Dissapointing for the price and the name. I find the opening interesting, fresh, energizing... and like a balloon in cold weather it loses it's beauty very fast. The dry down is long lasting however the splendor in the grass of the opening shows this cologne is moslty fluff. I prefer eau de thé vert (elizabeth arden), eau d'orange verte (hermés), in love again (more feminine, YSL) or yes: Liberté acidulée for the real tomato leaf note! (aaah I miss you! anyone: do you have a bottle somewhere?).

ButterBelle

I love the green mango in this. I can really pickup on it and the other vegetal notes, which are done quite well. However, there is an imbalance with a sharp, pointy, punch in the face note that I just cannot bear. And it’s that note that is left on my skin after it dries down. I believe it might be an aquatic note? It’s too screeching and comes off very synthetic, to my nose.

Bring the garden with you!

A walk through a lush vegetable and flower garden with your lover or friends during a cool summers morning. The sun beginning to heat up the dew from the night on the green leaves and powdery floral pedals. Laughs are had, memories are made, and as always: Life is good.

As soon as you spray this on you are smacked in the face with a juicy, freshly squeezed grapefruit over a medley of freshly picked, dewy, and green vegetable leaves, the most prominent being the tomato leaf and this earthy, slightly musky carrot accord. Wow. As it dries down, the green/vegetal notes and citrus co-star with these super clean and powdery florals.

What an underrated summer gem! Super refreshing, uplifting, and intriguing citrus green scent that dries down really nice and powdery. It really does smell like my aunts backyard during the summer, as she used to grow veggies and flowers to give as gifts during the summer. Really blown away this doesn't get more hype than it currently does. Great freshie that I will 100% cycle into the weekly rotation for the upcoming hotter months. First time I wore this I compliment too, so take that as you will.

Very very good projection for the freshie profile, respectable performance as well. Hermes fragrances typically stick well on me though so take it with a grain of salt.

9.3/10. Signature Scent Worthy.

A unique, fantastic and sophisticated fragrance, simply beautiful, but it only lasts for about 2 or 3 hours and the sillage quickly becomes very intimate.

HazardousEncyclopedia

Top notes give citrus and almond to me, something sharp and desserty. This is nice and fresh, extremely long-lasting, and fills a room.

Ben&Jerry

This one is fresh and decent. To my nose it comes off as freshly cut vegetables served on a plate with the carrot note standing out as the main actor. I’ll have to wear this some more to make up my mind if this kinda scent is down my alley or not. At least it’s something totally unique and different to my collection. As for now I find it a bit off putting, but I’ll keep an open mind towards it.

AnniePruana

Whoa, I have a sample, and this is intriguing. Not in a niche with a hipster name and disturbing note to elevate your coolness way but in a why haven't I been introduced to these notes earlier kind of way. We all feel good bringing in the garden grown tomatoes to our kitchen while the earlier picked bouquet of fresh flowers twinkle on the sill, the sun settling in the window while the wet skimpy bathing suits hang in the breezes to dry. This is happening in your secret little hide away with love on the sheets and your long held lovers hands on your waist as you chop the carrots for the roux you may never get to make

MaggieFrag

What a unique scent, I'm getting an earthy freshness and definitely notice the carrot which I wouldn't have been able to identify without the listed notes. It's leaning on a sweetness that blends nicely with the floral. I am barely picking up on any cinnamon. It's very inviting in a natural way. The perfect scent for a BBQ in a lush beautiful garden

asimpleperfumelover

Yes, this smells like a garden in summer. A garden where more vegetables are planted than flowers. The tomato in this is ripe, still connected to the vine with all its leaves, and then you get a powdery fresh scent (most likely from the lotus/grapefruit). I like it.

MPedro

All of Ellena’s creations I’ve come in touch with leave me with an almost nauseating creamy texture in the far drydown — especially if the bottle has macerated enough, I’ve noticed. This goes for Sur le Nil, Terre, Jour, Voyage (basically all of his most popular ones I guess). It’s definitely not the same note, as all of these fragrances are very different from each other. Heaven Can Wait is the one that doesn’t give me this feeling, as it’s such a departure from his other stuff, but alas the cloves are too much for me.

As much as I love the opening in all of them, I’ve still yet to find my Ellena, as I do admire his work and aesthetics, but as of yet no second bottles for me.

SweetPeaPea

I need to spend some more time with this one. This is not just a perfume, it’s an experience. Experience takes time. So far, very natural and smooth. No jagged edges. Slight fruitiness, milky and vegetal. This is not something you wear for others or for sexual attention, it’s something you wear for yourself.. to calm your mind and just live in the moment. I can tell this is going to be a love for me, but love is not always instantaneous, it is patient. I will get to know this one and report back.

EauDeDorian

This is a nice, uplifting scent. I like that it’s not a sweet gross mango but a fresh, green, citrus mango with subtle floral notes. Longevity is short on me but it’s still nice to have. I use it as an Eau de Cologne after a bath or whenever I want an uplifting scent.

Dakota22

Nice blind buy. Easy, breezy summer frag can't imagine anyone not liking this. See the resemblance to the gorgeous Bvlgari le Eau Exquisite, but Exquisite has an exquisite price tag!

camphor_lover

Lemonade with a sprig of something green in it.

dmitryrey

Absolutely love this one. My mom had it for forever and I remember really liking the mell - it always reminded me of grasses around bodies of water. Unique and fresh scent. Looking forward to wearing it more in warm weather!

sntiago

A really great unique unisex fresh green scent. Heavy on the citruses but i do get the vegetable notes too. Had a 5ml tester that i used up, however today i lean more towards Jardin a cythere, so i probably won't be buying this again. The Jardins Line of perfumes by Hermes is one of the only store(Douglas in germany)/mass market Designer perfumes that I actually like along with some Aqua Allegoria Givenchy perfumes. So for anyone looking for a unique, non gourmand summer scent, give this a go!

I've gone through two bottles of this. It's the fragrance that put me on to Ellena. This line from Hermes is wonderful. There's something so pleasant about the sharp green note in the opening. It's not your average freshie, given the fruity mango, lotus and bullrush. I definitely don't get cinnamon or incense. Taking a break from this one but it will be back in my collection eventually.

meatwad

Picked this up after falling in love with From the Garden by MM Replica and hearing that there are some similarities between the two. Right off the bat, the tomato vine is far more prominent in FTG while Sur le Nil is a more rounded watery green fragrance. Could be good or bad depending on what you're looking for - I personally love the tomato vine note, but this is more of a fresh tomato, along with other veg notes. I will say I am not a huge fan of it right off the bat, but 30 minutes on skin dries it down to introduce more floral notes which I am a fan of, even as a male. It is a very clean, inoffensive fragrance that seems to stay pretty close to the skin. Definitely gives off a rainforest or isolated pond on a spring morning. Quite well-balanced and worth a try - I can see this being a great scent in hotter weather. As others have mentioned, it hits the sweet spot for a unisex fragrance where both genders could wear it with ease IMO.

NoMilkToday

@Loves2read, it's a fragrance that shines in the heat, it's not warm enough for it yet.

loves2read

I have been looking for a fresh summer scent for ages.
Unfortunately, this one is not it. The mix of notes does not work for me, plus I think it´s more masculine. The staying power is very poor, barely half an hour on my skin.
A pass for me.

LadyIva

This is 100% my type of scent: fresh, aromatic, herbal-leafy, even veggie, and ever so slightly exotic. It is a floral-fruity fragrance perfect for those who normally do not favour this fragrant category, because it is not overtly sweet (if at all), and doesn't smell synthetic one bit! That's the artistry of Jean-Claude Ellena: somehow all of his creations smell natural, wholesome, and agreeable. I already own Kelly Calèche EDT, and a miniature of Twilly, and I was considering buying Hiris, but then I fell in love with Un Jardin Sur Le Nil, et voilà. It lasts about 5-6 hours, which is okay for an EDT, and projects very nicely, if unassumingly.

hermelina

This is the first perfume that changed what I thought a perfume could be. I smelled it first in store on a paper tester, and it came on like a rainforest: crisp, fresh, natural, and harmonious. I always thought unisex fragrances would be too masculine for me, but this had an effortlessness about it that I could see working equally well for men and women. It swings both ways with ease.

Having loved it on paper, I wanted to try it on my skin, so I ordered a sample. It is now my favourite fragrance. I love how elusive it is, I couldn't distinctly name any of the notes, yet it feels vibrant, fresh and vital, like nature in a bottle. To me it doesn't smell like anything in particular, but like a symphony of gentle tropical flowers and fresh summer grasses. When I spray it, it is instant happiness. Catching a whiff of it throughout the day gives me an instant mood boost. It doesn't last very long, which is a shame (± 4hrs). But it is clearly blended with artistry and elegance, and it is a sophisticated and complex fragrance. I have never smelled anything like it and am elated it exists. It has completely changed my understanding of the fragrance world.

melikro

Has anyone else noticed a change in this recently? This was my everyday scent for years - I bought my first bottle in 2013 and my second in 2017, which I stopped wearing regularly during the pandemic and never really went back to since I started exploring other scents. Having found that my bottle turned in the meantime (I stored it in the bathroom…often in full sunlight…oops), I was recently contemplating the purchase of a new one when I received a free sample with another purchase. Long story short, I was shocked at how different it smells to me now. I barely pick up the citruses anymore (in general I get far less sweetness) and the vegetal notes seem much more pronounced. The longevity also seems to have suffered - I used to spray my scarf and jacket and could still smell it days (and sometimes even weeks) later. My new sample is gone within half an hour, even on clothes. Could it be that reformulation has taken its toll on this unique beauty too? Not that it’s a terrible scent by any means, it just has lost the bewitching character it once had.

lavieenrose1987

This is my first foray into something fresh after being a decidedly gourmand girl, and I. Adore. This. It’s fresh, it’s watery, it’s gentle, it’s green. Putting it on, I had visions of a peaceful spa in the middle of a sprawling garden. It’s an eau de toilette, so it doesn’t last the longest, but I’ve noticed it’s still on my clothes close to 24 hours after spraying. This won’t radiate like crazy either, but it really feels like you’ve just been to the fanciest meditative retreat where everything just smells inoffensive and calming. Can’t wait to wear this when it gets hotter!

Docrj

Photorealistic scent. Very well blended. For people who like fresh scents, this one hits the spot. My favorite among the Jardin line. Dont buy at retail price, this perfume is always available at discounters. Another Jean Claude Elena masterpiece imho!

JDinHNL

This is a very refined, very soft fragrance. I live in the tropics, so that is my first warning on any review. This has an absolutely perfect and inviting smell on first use. I love the greens, how it goes on easy in hot/humid weather, and how it seems to basically work. And I would use it for work - the scent is soft, more personal than anything else... when you walk into a room, you are the only entry, this will never march before you. Nor will it linger after you. Things getting closer than that? Well, then it is a very clean, fresh, and I'd say inviting scent. From the love of your life to the love of the moment, this will not offend. And, if it does, it isn't love - just sayin'.
In general, this jardin is a bit too soft for my overall daily use just given my climate, but it is so pleasant, and so distinct, if I chose to go crazy and carry a little spray of it when I want a fast pick me up after beach, after walking, after whatever, it is a nice choice. And when I'm on biz, this is the perfect undertone.

skm50

Smells like a citrusy garden at first and then dries down to a soft floral smell. Nothing special. A lot of people say this is a nostalgic perfume. Kinda reminded me of my mother's tomatoes that she'd grow in the back yard. Sadly the entire smell disappeared in a few short hours. Decided to return.

likestospray

Pretty, charismatic, slightly andyrogenous fragrance.
Made me sneeze yesterday. I hope it was a one time thing.

621moni

I think this is a scent if you are a person who likes photorealistic done well, like in this very French way. Like the scent is not for everyone but at the same time it’s so well done that it’s sold in Sephora and for good reason. I love this scent so much. It lingers around all day and I’m not sure if anyone else likes it on me but IDC. I do wish I could delete one of the top notes, I think it may be the green mango but ultimately I’ll always keep this around.

Lady Lynx

I’ve been searching for a perfume dupe of Flonase (no, that’s not a joke) and had un Jardin sur le Nil recommended. While this is not a perfect match, maybe not even a close match, I’m more than glad to have it.

Imagine a pond. A beautiful pond. One out of an art nouveau triptych by Alphonse Mucha. There’s a waifish young girl in a cotton-soft green dress, long strawberry-blonde ringlets tumbling over her freckled shoulders. She kneels beside the pond, nimbly twisting daisies and dandelions into a flower crown, watching little frogs leap between lilypads and goldfish lazily swishing among the reeds. A sweet breeze blows a few strands of her hair around to tickle her face. She almost sneezes but it turns into laughter. The sun is warm, the pond is cool, the trees (did I mention there were trees?) are a blossoming orchard, made almost alive by busy bees doing what they do best. It is spring, and all is right in the world. That’s what un Jardin sur le Nil is to me.

Every aspect works in perfect harmony: the jewel-like bottle emerging from the matte cream paper box, the fresh green garden notes balanced by the tang of citrus fruit, and the name, en Français, rolling off the tongue with every passing compliment - yes, this is Hermès un Jardin sur le Nil.

I tricked someone into buying this for me and I have no regrets. Submerge me in this fragrance, I never want to leave.

tealoveZ

Smells like fresh greens soaked in greapfruit. Has a savoury quality aswell. Bitter grapefruit peel in the opening, it mellows out with time and the citrus aspect stay untill the end. It starts to smell cleaner as time goes by and I can smell airy lotus and traces of incense, musk and iris. A relaxing spa experience.

Whateverwhocares

Objectively, falls somewhere between 😐 and 🙂. Strong, synergic fruit and gardenia concoction that does a good job staying fresh. Very vegetative and unintentionally psychedelic. Unique, on par with BDK's Citrus Riviera, and an equally acquired taste. Try this on skin, especially in warm weather.

fathughie

I'm quite sad that this does not seem to work with my body chemistry. I'll definitely retry it in the summer and let it macerate a bit, but right now, all I get is lemon - none of the carrot, mango, tomato, or other notes that I was hoping to dig my nose into, and scarf up.

That said, it's a nice scent. I like lemon - no complaints. Definitely not a full-bottle buy, but I'll happily use up my sample. Maybe then, it will change into something more dynamic and be worth the price.

vpace91

Unique, uplifting, summery. The only downside for me is that it seems to be a little bit weak. I would like to try it again in warm weather and see how it performs then! All in all, I like it.

jerhmie

As a Filipino, I have an intimate familiarity with the alluring scent of green mango, and I must say that Hermes Sur Le Nil holds a special place in my heart for capturing the essence of this tropical treasure. From the moment I encountered this fragrance, I was whisked away to memories of lush mango orchards, where the sweet, tangy aroma of green mangoes and the earthy scent of mango leaves linger in the air.

Upon experiencing Sur Le Nil, I found myself enveloped in its enchanting narrative, as the initial burst of citrus and green mango transported me to the banks of the Nile, where the cool breeze carries the scent of verdant fruit and delicate lotus blossoms. The interplay of aromatic resin and vibrant green notes further added to the tapestry of scents, creating a vivid and evocative olfactory experience.

However, it's difficult for me to ignore the striking similarities between Sur Le Nil and Un Jardin en Méditerranée. While each fragrance possesses its own distinct charm at the onset, I couldn't help but notice that as they reached their dry down, their individual profiles converged, resulting in a shared, subdued elegance that obscured their initial differences.

When considering my Jardin collection favorites, I would place Monsieur Li at the top for its invigorating blend of kumquat and mint, followed by Un Jardin en Méditerranée for its initial allure and evocative Mediterranean garden-inspired composition, and finally Sur Le Nil. While all three are undeniably captivating, Monsieur Li's unique and invigorating character has left an indelible impression on my discerning senses.

In conclusion, Hermes Sur Le Nil masterfully captures the essence of a tropical oasis, with its alluring blend of green mango and lotus, yet its resemblance to Un Jardin en Méditerranée in the dry down prompts reflective consideration. As a Filipino, the familiar scent of green mango and its accompanying notes resonated deeply with me, yet I found myself longing for a more distinct divergence in the final stages of its olfactory narrative.

dabatch

to each his own, sure, but you can almost instantly tell that people disliking this one are into sirupy, sickly sweet overpriced perfumes.

Sabreena

I’m in love with this perfume. It’s exactly what I was hoping it would be. I can imagine why it wouldn’t appeal to everyone. It’s a mix of fresh and green, wet and muddy, and bright and citrusy. A lot of traditionally masculine directions but in a decidedly gender neutral composition. It works for any time or season and doesn’t leave much of an impression on those around but it makes the wearer feel like they’re standing in a garden by a fast river on a very foggy day with mud on their boots and under their nails. The bottle is beautiful and well made. Great quality for a toilette, it last longer than any of the ones I’ve tried. 9/10

ablesister

It's interesting but I don't know if I want to smell like this. I think I am simply not a citrus or 'watery' note person. Summery for sure, but it smells like being covered in sticky insect repellant. Better on a man.

smelling.sniffing.swan

Refreshing citrus opening; mandarin, grapefruit, lemon. Even a little splash of gin on top, giving some sparkle.
A mature, savoury take on citrus with a vegetal element in there.
A good airy-ness keeps me from feeling smothered, however, this one will likely lack sweetness for some.

In the middle is a lush, spicy, slightly damp greenery. Evocative of wetlands with a dirtiness or perhaps some tree bark.
I don't detect as much florality as perhaps I would like. I think some stronger florals would have made this more enjoyable for me, by bringing some roundness to the sharper notes.

A nice, light, woody musk underneath smells clean without being soapy. But in my view, isn't quite prominent enough to base the top notes.

Quite masculine to me. Seems to have mostly faded away after 2-3 hours.

VERDICT:
A lush, savoury take on citrus that I really enjoyed. Is missing something softer and more grounding for my taste.
A great sampling experience, but I can't see it going into my rotation of regulars.

youn8ss

You should know better than to buy from marionnaud lol they have the worst prices compared to both online retailers and perfume stores like nocibe and sephora .

ambadeblou

Should rename it to "Roi des Léporidés" tbh
Smells good but honestly it's very sharp, bitter and the carrot note is very strong
Charging 114 € for 50ml (cc marionnaud) is devious.
Could be good for layering tho

Áurea.Irise

I wanted to like it. And it's not that I don't like it, but I feel like I'm in the kitchen, preparing a summer salad with carrots and mango, and someone is outside mowing the grass.

I was expecting a more enigmatic and mysterious aroma, I expected to feel like I was crossing the waters of the Nile like Cleopatra, but here everything leads me to wonder where and when will I use it again.

When I used it in the office, a woman made a disgusted face and asked: "Who brought food? There is a smell of carrots." Definitely a green, watery perfume and not for everyone's tastes. I had high expectations but unfortunately it is not my style of perfume.

Thranduilseyebrows

too much ginger? On second thoughts I’m reconsidering on the dry down... 4/5

kitkatya

so spring, so garden, so refreshing. not the most vegetal green ever but not the sweetest floral either . I like it but can’t imagine it’s something I really wish to smell like.

junimo

Nice and green and tart. I wanna nibble on this with just my front teeth and get the citrusy essence on my tongue, you know what I mean? Maybe not. Lovely, but doesn’t last long. Was very happy with my little sample. Wanted a FB for a very, very long time but grew out of it knowing how much I’d have to overspray to get something that lasts.

Nigdylandia

I think my expectations destroyed my first impression of this. I felt mostly carrot in the opening other notes too but carrots overpowered everything. And then kind of candle waxy oily sweet scent that's probably bullrash and orange oil.
But drydown is much more pleasant feel lotus and with incense and iris.
This is deffinitely an experinece. I can't wait to try other Jardins.

Husnal

aleckzandurh

I finished reading Chandler Burr's book, "The Perfect Scent" which chronicled the development of this fragrance by Jean-Claude Ellena (alongside the development of Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker.) Apparently Hermes flew them out to the Nile for inspo and it was a dud until the came across an island within the Nile that had a bunch of green mango trees (which is apparently different than our sweeter, grocery store variety).

In any case, I wanted to smell the ultimate end product and so I did — it's a lovely, aqueous scent. I think the nature of the peony, hyacinth, and lotus (all of which are mute flowers) shines through in a cooling, dappled-light-in-a-pond sort of way. It definitely doesn't shout. In my mind, I was expecting a certain tartness of the green mango, but it still fulfills the brief and is more or less what I had imagined for a scent inspired by the Nile River and lotus flowers.

ava96

I really enjoyed this one, I might even consider a full bottle or request it as a gift for my bday. Really nice!

nicolespeedyfast

Blind try-on: Citrus, slightly woody. Green. Clean. Aromatic. Delicately toes the line between well-crafted fragrance and expensive organic cleaning product.
After reading the notes I realize it’s the carrot and tomato which stops it from going off the deep end and into dish soap territory. The opening leans masculine, and would be appropriate for lounging beside the pool in Marina di Portiofino. After a few minutes a bit of musk introduces itself subtly. Starts to lean feminine after ~10 minutes. Intimate to moderate sillage that I couldn’t detect under clothes. Green spicy to a T— itches very back of your sinuses. Younger people would suit this best. Something very bitter/grassy which transitions seamlessly into floral.
Ideal if you like citrus but want to avoid fruity accords. Zero sweetness. Largely floral after a couple hours but still had a sharp edge. At 4 hours it’s entirely bright floral. Sharpness has flattened and the musk & incense starts peeking through.

Overall this is a slow and harmonious transition from vibrant green aromatic citrus to an uncomplicated and likeable peony & iris. Spray this in the afternoon before boarding your private jet in Cairo for an aromatic pick-me-up, and by the time you’ve landed in Paris you have a perfect balanced evening floral.
Wouldn’t reach for this as a personal fragrance but maybe a body wash or laundry detergent if I wanted to layer with something in a similar scent category. I won’t upgrade my sample size because I honestly disliked the first 3-4 hours of wear, even as someone who usually enjoys all of the opening accords. The base is lovely but not worth it.

PayJay

love this scent!!

mugatupotamus

I got a small travel spray of Un Jardin Sur Le Nil and just....really wanted to like it so badly. The grapefruit note absolutely comes out upon first spray, a very pleasant sharp punch in the nose. After the drydown, that sharpness doesn't seem to go away. I can't isolate specifically what I'm smelling--it's not herby or earthy, just sharp. I get some green mango, but absolutely no tomato leaf or carrot sticks out on me. Basically, on my skin this stuff smells like good old fashioned citrus cleaning spray.

I don't hate it, but after a while that sharpness is too much for me and I have to take it off. It's been cooling off lately, I'd like to try this on a hot day to see if the scent develops differently. For now, this is on my shelf to potentially pass on.

BlueMerle

I tend to mostly blind buy as I live in the middle of nowhere so don't have easy access to perfume counters. As such, I tend to buy the smallest bottles I can so any mistakes aren't too costly. So I purchased a 30ml bottle of Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. This is a lovely cool green, I can smell the water and lotus and hibiscus. A slow running stream in an oasis in the desert. The fresh, crisp green soon mellows and fades to a clean floral. I don't get the vegetable element at all, but maybe that's just my skin. Sadly, this just doesn't last. Half an hour later, I can barely smell anything, my skin just eats this up. Due to the lack of longevity I won't be repurchasing, however I'll enjoy my 30ml bottle while it lasts. It's small enough to fit in my handbags so I can reapply throughout the day. If only it lasted a little longer, I would def buy a bigger bottle for a summer scent.

Edit on 30 Oct 23 - been wearing this for almost a month. I really really like this as a daytime scent, it's clean and uplifting and it doesn't fade into "generic" as some scents do on my skin. I only wish it lasted longer. The green sharpness fades after about half an hour and I'm left with a subtle floral which completely disappears after 3-4 hours. However, I've changed my mind and have decided to purchase again. I'll just have to reapply during the day which is no great hardship as I find the initial spray to be pleasantly bright and aromatic.

This is lush and refreshing. Very unique and green, but in a juicy, not screechy way. Very well done, the scent that revives and relaxes at the same time. Lovely for summer.

katie02kat

I love this unique creation,🌸it's simply a wonder that everyone should have, this perfume is a work of art

Lydia C.

I love the crispness of this scent -- a captivating combo of green floral and fruit. It's subtle enough that I can wear it in both professional and social environments without worrying about it being too strong. Definitely my top go-to daytime scents.

pcsanjuan_89

I'm not a fan of this on first spray, there is this screechy grapefruit note that thankfully disappears after 30 minutes and im left with a green mango note with a touch of incense that i do love. I do agree that this develops well throughout the day but it isn't something that lasts long on me approximately 5hrs max depending on the weather. I did get compliments from this, from the jardin collection I get mostly compliments from Le Nil and monsieur li but mostly on an intimate level, the sillage on this is pretty much intimate but in hot weather the wind is your bestfriend to spread this scent to others around you. THis is rather soft, i think it was made to be subtle.

nrobinson2152

Something about this fragrance is just so captivating, I want to smell it all day. Meditation in a bottle.

NoirMemoir

Smells exactly like the color of the bottom half of the bottle. Bang on unisex fragrance, i don't find it feminine or masculine at all. Perfectly androginous scent. I guess if you are a woman who is into candied sweet, pink girly girl scents then you won't like this.

I wasn't aware of the notes in this but the sharp bitter green nature of this scent instantly made me think "this must have some green plant note like Artemisia or something". I mean you can imagine the celery like leaf shapes when you smell this. Sure enough it has tomato leaf!

Green, bright, pronounced, niche quality scent. This could be a fresh offering in the Amouage portofolio and i wouldn't question it. I had high expectations of this and scent quality wise they were easily met. In the drydown the sharp green-ness subsides leaving a pleasant mellow scent behind. It doesn't compell me enough to get a bottle but i don't dislike it eighter. I wish the opening seconds of the fragrance stuck throughout its lifetime because its really lively, uplifting fresh and green, but after those few moments the vegetal slight bitterness kicks in and twists the greenness, taking away some of the invigorating aspect of it.

I get it when people say this is a very evocative or photorealistic scent because it doesn't smell like a fragrance honestly. It smells like plants, fruits, a lush garden at the peak of "ripeness" basicly. Other then streight up gourmands, i think this is the most photorealistic fragrance i've ever smelled. Unreal quality and totally worth the price at discounters as long as you love the scent.

I recommend testing beforehand to check if it suits your taste.

Odor Aeternitatis

You can't go wrong with the Un Jardin collection. This is a very refined green floral scent. The only thing I want to add is that this fragrance can completely elevate your mood and bring you positive energy and this is exactly what a fragrance should do. As a man, I like this one a lot. It's original, from a very well-known house and a great perfumer. Excellent
8/10

ScentedAway

Absolutely rocking this scent as a man just because it gives dopamine in a bottle and reminds me of being lost in thoughts while exploring the gardens of England. Not even the perfume store assistants would understand. It does radiate a heart-warming freshness and boost spirits, versatile on skin or as a room spray that adds colours to dullness. Perfectly fine the way it floats my boat.

Jernê Knowles

Hermès is my Maison of life and there is no way to be different! Everything you create, have created and will still create, I know that I will prove it with my heart and soul. The refinement, the finesse, the effort and the quality that they use in their creations, becomes something that words cannot fit, it needs to be felt.

On the banks of the River Nile, a garden has flourished, which depends directly on its valid waters that traverse, designing their unpolluted path that flows into the ocean. It is possible to sit on its banks and enjoy a vegan picnic based on vegetables, freshly picked fruits, with a lot of breeze and unsweetened juices, citrus fruits in measure.

At dusk it is possible to leave there and later on you will come across a garden, a little more suspended, from which there are diversified flowers and plants, as well as a Tomato tree that even its leaves are interesting in this context to the point of emanating an aroma that characterizes its raw sap, which goes around all the floral splendor of that admirable garden for its 'simplicity' and such majesty.

The day goes by, the night approaches and in a nearby hut the temperature drops for a tender end of the day, full of affective memories and social representations of someone who has experienced the bucolic. There is Indian incense burning in the room, wood that is the floor of that place, a vase of flowers in the water and a comfortable armchair, heated, smelling of embrace and immediate comfort.

I cannot see Un Jardin Sur Le Nil de Hermès outside of this narrative.

GirlIMHEREfo12!

Very green, i mostly got this because it reminded me of my mother. Very pleasant and none sweet. I feel like this will be amazing during spring time rather than summer because it smells fresh!

MrDollars&Scents

I used to love this but my newer batches have been weaker and the standout 🍅leaf note& crisp 🥭 has been subdued.Never was it a very strong scent having been done in the watercolor as perfumery style ,of Master Ellena and trademark of the Jardin series. But compared to my 2017 bottle this is weak. However Le Nil was the first perfume to justify my love of tomato leaves, I would crush them in my hands as a child and inhale deep while picking the red slightly acidic ones in my grandmother's garden.I also must repurchase Rhubarbe Eclarte. Hope reformulated hasn't gutted that one as well.

JImbonA583BG

From a male perspective,it was neither a love nor a hate from first spayin, the first time i wore it i felt kinda odd,as if its leaning more towards the feminine spectrum.I will need to give it some more spins in order to draw a better conclusion, but im not sure whether this incense note and the high heat settings are besties.Nevertheless there is something intriguing and mysterious about this scent.Im unfamiliar with most of the notes,so it was a interesting to up my perceptions game little bit.I have found the longevity to be pretty good,i could take wafts of it up to eight, ten hours prior to application. The scent managed to survive on my shirt after a wash.Im glaud i have only went for a 1.5 ml sample, not a safe blind buy IMO,unless you are loaded xD Its interesting how this scent will unfold in colder environment,i might save my sample unitl it gets a bit colder.

astralmonad870

A slightly more affordable dupe of this is L'essence des Notes Pamplemousse Basilic which smells almost identical, $39 for a 50 ml bottle on L'essence des Notes website or £12 for 30 ml on Cocoon Center shipping from France.

istvan.buda.779

I wore this tody in a humid heat , smells great , tomato note makes it more green and fresh

David_S

Yes, "Un Jardin sur Le Nil" transports me to the water...the water swirling around my plates as I do the evening's dishes. Yes, yes, it's very pretty and citrusy, but longevity is a bummer and there are other citrus freshies out there that are better performers. I say wash those dishes in Mrs. Meyer's Lemon Verbena soap for a similar (and much more affordable) experience.

5hiraeth

Suitable for spring and summer, this fragrance is stunning and refreshing, with a delightful blend of floral and fruity notes. The moment I first experienced it, I felt like I was in a garden next to a flowing river. Its top, middle, and base notes are all very gentle, making it widely appealing. The aroma is exceptionally unique, and even though most perfumes don't last long on my skin, it doesn't affect my willingness to use them. If you're looking for another unisex perfume, be sure to give it a try.

Smell : 8.5/10 - Nice
Performance : 8/10

Ever since arriving to the sleepy Mediterranean village for her summer retreat, it has been her habit in the very early mornings to don her spotless white linen dress, sunglasses, hat and scarf and ride her bicycle down the hill to the village outdoor market for breakfast. At the top of the hill, there is a very old stone wall that overlooks the ocean, and if she times it just right-- she can arrive there just in time to stop on her bicycle and watch the sun rise over the water. Often, the breeze will kick up just then, bringing with it the bright and earthy scents of the bustling village market below-- citrus, tomatoes, bright juicy fruits, and the green-ness of fresh cut herbs and flowers. At this time of the morning, so much is still quiet but the beautiful perfection of the moment is deafening.

tailoredshirt

This is exactly the kind of summer scent I've been looking for. Most fresh, citrussy summer scents are too sweet for me and become nauseating in the heat, but this remains bright, refreshing, and very green. I love grapefruit but it often goes sickly sweet on my skin. Here it is wonderfully tart! I also love the wafts of tomato in the first hour.

Msala140

It opens very bright and sour , with the grapefruit and that green mango note , it’s slightly sour and zingy. Then I get notes of the tomato , but no carrots at all and for some reason a little bit of a celery note . After two hours it settles down to something more sweeter on my skin , the hyacinth comes through strongly along w some green mango , It’s very nice . I’m happy the green mango sticks around for the duration of the fragrance . This is going to be a summer staple when I get a full bottle

I think this fragrance really does bloom in the heat and it projects stronger and sticks to the skin longer if you aren’t sweating too much . So far it’s been on my skin for 3 hours and still get wafts of it . It’s nice and refreshing also a little garden-y since it’s a bit herbaceous

Many moons ago, while shopping for baby clothes at a Ross store (we were in the midst of the adoption process...had no idea if the Lord was going to bless us with a boy or girl, so I was buying every adorable piece of infant clothes on their clearance racks...private adoption is very expensive and hubby was still making a meager salary in the military), I stumbled across a beat up bottle of Pacifica Lotus Garden body lotion, of course on clearance for $3.00. I fell in love with that refreshing scent. It is very citrus, green and floral. I tried finding more at every Ross store I came across (I may have found 2 more bottles. This was way before discovering eBay). I tried being stingy with it under the impression I had found something lovely that had been discontinued. Well, citrus fragrances as we very well know, have a habit of "turning" if not used in a timely manner...especially in lotion form. Just as my last bottle was taking on that rancid celery overtone, I discovered eBay. This is where smart people buy up discontinued fragrances and flip them for an outrageous profit. Oh wow, there was a EDT of my beloved Pacifica Lotus Garden...for $150 for a 1.7 oz bottle!!! Me, broke and sad had to live without it. However, purely by accident, while going over Fragrantica's page dedicated to Pacifica Lotus Garden, I noticed there was a quite large amount of votes under "this perfume reminds me of" for this fragrance, Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. I went straight away to eBay, cringing all along with the name HERMES, along with $$$$ pounding in my head. I found a seller asking $45.99 or best offer with free shipping for a 3.1 oz bottle. We agreed upon $40 even. It just came in the mail. It is an exact dupe for PLG, but with much better longevity and silliage. Many thanks to Fragrantica for reuniting me with a fragrance I thought I would never have again. Now, when I wear it, memories of a most difficult time, our adoption, ending in the most wonderful day in my life, picking up our 2 day old son at the same hospital I was born in (if that's not destiny, i dont know what is). I was wearing Pacific Lotus Garden the day we picked up our baby. I just put on my Hermes dupe and heard from another room, our teenage son saying, "Mom, what is that smell???it's so nice! It smells so familiar!" 😉

Sur Le Nil is my signature summer scent. While it can and will work on its own, I prefer to use it in conjunction with other scents. It adds an extra green depth when layered with other citrus and fresh scents. I live in a scorchingly hot and humid climate to the point that any scent used can easily be overwhelmed by the smell of sweat and body odor (general body odor, not stink). However, Sur Le Nil tends to compliment the sweaty scents in that it makes you smell as if you've been digging around in an herb garden. Throw in a sweet citrus like Acua di Parmi's Blue Mediterraneo Arancia di Capri, and it smells like you ate a mandarin orange for lunch after a morning's outside.

tomzhao

Literally, this frag has nothing to do with its name. Barely find the elements of Nil nor the conventional smell of India. Initially grapefruit rushes out and fill up all of its top note combing with weaker sense of mango and tomato, not really the carrot.( indeed the red carrot displayed on the notes pad tastes that way?) Then the lotus is coming out as the grape fruit is diminishing, it just depicts what has been printed on the outside package, an aquatic green atmosphere surrounded by lotus stems. Maybe it’s part of the nil but anyways, it goes far from what I thought of. And the base note is just how the middle is smelled like. Actually this frag goes along its way flatly, straightfoward and linear. Great smelling but a little bit boring as the scent doesn’t change from time to time. Like all of its sister in this series, longevity is a catastrophe, especially when u wear it in the heated summer life.

Crocus

On me this smells overwhelmingly peppery at application—maybe the grapefruit is not interacting well with my body chemistry? This becomes subdued on dry down but still there. Not my favorite but I will continue to experiment.

Shahrzaad

I had a sample of this and initially really disliked it but today I wore it while walking in a garden in summer heat, and kept getting wafts of it while walking. Initially you get a burst of citrus but then it turns into a most pleasant smell of grass and green fields. I still think this is a very particular sort of perfume, to be used in extreme heat, for walks outside.

alphairone

Grapefruit and I have a rocky relationship, at least when it comes to my skin. While I love the taste and aroma, something happens where a grapefruit-forward fragrance will read as quite sulphurous and acrid when I wear it. The exception to this is Un Jardin Sur le Nil. Leave it to Jean Claude Ellena to make grapefruit "work" for me.

Opening bright and sour, juicy and sunny, its radiance on my skin is a summer salve. A tomato leaf that comes through a few minutes in begins to feel like a walk through a victory garden, all manners of vegetable and fruit, not quite yet ripe, still green, harbingers of a harvest on the vine. Then Ellena's usage of a cassis base with other elements does render the feel of an immature, tart mango.

Further into its heart, onward to its base, the grapefruit seems to seamlessly crossfade into an ever more watery, impressionistic floral, with a softer green, feeling more herbaceous over time. At a certain point, it feels as paced and still as a tea ceremony, with a breeze rustling some bamboo. It feels lucid down to its final traces.

frank_yxz

One of my favorite perfumes for summer.
The opening of the perfume is just like cutting open a big juicy grapefruit, sour, clean and fresh, with a hint of green note. It immeditately brings me back to those hot summer days when I would be sipping lemonade.
Soon I get the powdery floral smell of lotus, aquatic and watery, which creates an atmosphere of a quiet and peaceful garden. After about one hour, it develops into this fruity floral scent, but not the feminine type; instead, it's just clean and fresh.
The drydown is pleasant and soft, floral with hint of musk. Again, it's fresh and clean.

cyclone1391

Well this is one of the strongest fresh scents I've ever tried but it is kind of odd. I was hoping for more mango and citrus as well as the interesting blend of notes like lotus and bulrush. Unfortunately, on my skin this is a potent tomato leaf and carrot. I grow these both in my own garden and it's quite realistic. Pass

torres_jake

I tried the shower gel first before getting the perfume. I really like this, it smells very green. My untrained nose can only detect Mango, Tomato (leaves?!?) and grapefruit. It's very comforting. Doesn't have a big scent bubble, but it lasts long on my clothes. Since I live in a tropical country, its scent profile is perfect. I usually reach for this when I don't feel like wearing something loud. Perfect for brunch. 9/10

Simon-Alexis

When I tried this perfume for the first time, I had the impression that it realistically represented the scent of grapefruit. However, I realized I was wrong when I peeled an actual grapefruit, which didn’t attract me as much: this perfume recreates an idealized version of grapefruit! The vegetal notes contribute to complementing the citrus notes. These olfactory delights stimulate my nose and tongue intensely, causing saliva secretion. Some may worry about its longevity and sillage, but in my opinion, it’s not bad.

Selenity

Lot of carrot and citrus. It’s a bright fruity green. I think it smells nice and is perfectly suited for summer. If you can appreciate smelling like a sunny vegetable patch or V8, you might like this. I find it doesn’t quite suit my tastes and that, like others in this specific line, the presence is faint and longevity is lacking. I like Sur Le Toit better but this one does last significantly longer.

Spirakel

I spritzed this on my arm in the perfumery today, two sprays on the inside of my lower arm. I have really enjoyed other fragrances by Jean Claude Ellena, so I wanted to try this on my skin. While the scent was soft, delicate, dreamy and fresh, leaning "feminine", unfortunately, it was honestly one of the weakest fragrances I've ever tried, and I'm sensitive to smell in general. With this, I had to stick my nose really close to get any sense of it at all. I think it's far too weak.

Snowflake8000

I get a ton of carrot in the opening. Don’t like this one.

Lovely246

This is SO good for summer. I get a lot of pungent green tomato leaf and bright citrus in the opening. In time it dries down to more of that musk and bulrush. It really does smell like a being out in a vibrant summer garden full of life on a hot late July day, with citrus trees bearing fruit and the breeze carrying in the smell of the ocean somewhere off in the distance.

Leila22920

I’ve wanted this fragrance since I was 18. The bottle, the name, everything felt incredible about it. My father in law bought it for me (he had no idea I wanted this fragrance for that long). It was like a dream come true.

Ibolyaaa

very good summer perfume doesn’t last that long, great for traveling and hot days. Price is ok. Overall solid perfume 7/10

MatchaCat

I'm mainly getting grapefruit, some greeness and subtle florals. This is heavily blended. I can't distinguish many different notes, like niche perfumes. I'm mostly getting the grapefruit. It's a nice, safe green scent for summer, but doesn't particularly stand out for me.

Smell: 7 out of 10
Longevity: 6 out of 10
Leans feminine

For reference, I'm female.

g_maak

I love it

PerfumeEmpress

I have a few summser scents that I love. But this one is, and forever will be, my topmost favorite summer scent. In spite of the price, I've gone through several bottles and keep coming back for more.

CYCLE of LIFE...

There is an allegory here in the story of the infant Moses found by the likely infertile Pharaoh's daughter in the bulrush ark-basket on the river Nile. Evocative of new beginnings, hope from despair, fertility from infertility, this is a work of art more profound than its scent alone, like many from this range. With its accoutrements of fertile Nile delta farming scents, this beauty opens with a citrus-aromatic burst of grapefruit & tomato-leaf, that transitions into the herbal, green & aqueous heart of bulrushes that reads as green-tea & matcha to my nose. All of this rests on a white-musk & dew-drop base that gains some sweetness the longer it's on the skin.

Overall I get a complex green-tea scent with citrus-vegetal opening, green-tea/matcha bulrush heart, and white-musk & dew-drop drydown. Has an average or slightly above average performance for a light summer wearing experience. This is the perfect scent to wear during a summer exodus from the city. It's a love for me. Enjoy!

GooseWithAGrudge

I wasn’t really sure what a perfume with a carrot note was going to smell like, but i don’t smell carrots at all with it. I get citrus freshness, something slightly tropical (maybe the mango?) and a green base with a hint of the florals. It dries down to a cinnamony incense with a slight floral overtone.

This is a very light scent, you’d have to spray quite a bit of it to get more than very slight silage. Lasting power is on the slightly low end of average- got about four and half hours before I needed to reapply.

Overall, this is a very light, pleasant fragrance with some unique features to it. I wore this on a moderately warm but incredibly humid day, and did not find it cloying. I do think this is really a warm-weather fragrance, as I think it would be too delicate for a cold dry day.

Tshahb

Lovely but very similar to a lot of Ellena's other tomatoey, blackcurrantey, citrusey freshies.

Quite delicate, discreet.

Rkivenamu7

Único, diferente, delicioso, con muy buena duración y estela por lo menos en mi experiencia. Y aunque es fresco y floral lo he usado en invierno también y me da una sensación de relajación que se agradece. Voy por mi segundo frasco y no creo que sea el último.

Norathar

This is one of my absolute favorite perfumes. Very fresh, green, not at all sweet or cloying, it's the absolute perfect scent for spring or summer. It has a very watery aquatic tone, with a grapefruit/green mango top note that transitions into a more mellow freshness with the citrus/lotus notes being more prominent to me. I don't really get the tomato at all. Sometimes, I'll layer a bit of Monsieur Li with it; that's my other favorite Hermes scent, and is a warmer scent that goes nicely with this.

WhiteFlowerPrincess

This was mainly a very citrusy perfume to my nose, followed by lots of green notes and then some spicy notes. It was also a bit fruity and a moderate amount floral from the lotus note and hints of that hyacinth note. I can smell a lot of that grapefruit at the beginning and it eventually settles in in the heart notes to some vaguely aquatic and green floral. I then smell the incense and the cinnamon in the base.

It's a very complex perfume and hard to define or categorize for sure. It's certainly not something you'd smell everyday! A very unusual smelling perfume.

Projection and sillage are both moderate and Jardin Sur Le Nil lasts about 5 hours on the skin.

I'm not sure if it is for me, but it is very fresh and clean smelling. It would make a good spring or summer perfume and you could easily spritz it on during the day. I also think that with a light hand that this could be office appropriate. Both men and women could wear it, since it's very unisex and isn't masculine or feminine.

6/10 for this perfume for me.

thecellophaneflower

What can be said that hasn't already? Few perfumes come around that are this unique, and this well-blended. I LOVE green fragrances, but it's difficult to find truly green fragrances that smell expensive. If you want a fresh, sour scent that is absolutley mouth-watering...Sur le Nil is hard to beat.

Manjusaka

Mùi hương hoàn hảo cho mùa hè, tươi tắn mát mẻ,mình thích vị hơi chua của cam chanh và xoài xanh trong chai nước hoa này🥰

dabigail444

for some reason it smells exactly to me like lemon peel when its sat too long in lemon water. little bitter. Very green, has a tomato leaf note I didn’t realize. Would be nice planting vegetable garden in the spring but not something i have occasion to wear

Thatbwoy

I must be smelling something completely different to some of the other reviews on here as I get this beautifully transition from opening to dry down and I love all aspects of it.. I get the impression of an incidental character written by Agatha Christie in some fever dream version of 'Death on the Nile' but instead of some chinless sexually repressed English doctor dribbling love-lost soliloquies to some equally squib lip-quivering femme-banal. No Agatha has foisted some spunk into the pressed white linen suit and created a slinky devilish rogue who might've killed the dowager for her jewellery but.. y'know she was old anyway and she's had a good innings. This reminds of a young Brian Jones stealing the spotlight from Mick Jagger, with fistfuls of dead women's jewellery crammed into his pockets.

This has some staying power, which I know a lot of people complain about Jean Ellena's work being faint and almost just a skin, but this is projects perfectly at around an arm's length (I don't get this preoccupation with a projection that would peel wallpaper).

8.6/10

Mariyamokshina

The opening is not the best , and reminds me of slightly stale grassy hay bundles that were covered with pine sol, and topped with heaps and heaps of green tomato plant vines. Out of all the notes, the tomato plant is what I dislike most . On dry down It becomes more balanced and grassy floral losing the staleness and the pine sol . I picture notes of carnations, clementines, myer lemon, and drying grass.

pcsanjuan_89

I have a love hate relationship with this scent, mainly because it tends to smell like stale cigarette smoke on my skin after a few minutes, i dont know if that's the incense note everyone is talking about, however what i love about this is the mango note, this is quite an herbal, bitter green smokey scent. This is a gentle scent, not off putting, i like to layer this with a straight citrus, but im still on the fence if ill get the full size of this. THis is often reviewed to have similarities with Le Toit, but to me le toit is stronger and more floral.

saho93

Unfortunately, this is not for me. I get too much tomato leaf in the dry down and cedar, very very green scent.

I was hoping to get fruit and floral notes, but the leafy, vegetal notes just overwhelm me.

gerjakeszter

It starts wonderfully, very refreshing and complex for a while, but after it sets, all that remains is smoky incense.

jjfragrance

This is a lovely frag that is calming and fresh. To me, none of the elements particularly stick out and it seems well blended. I do get fresh spicy and green, but it's not too sweet, not to musky, not too anything. I was worried this would smell too vegetal but it smells like a perfume. This is a potential buy for me. Biggest reservation is it's a skin scent and doesn't project on me.

PixieDevil

This is very soft and green on me and I’m finding myself returning to this as I putter in my garden in the cool, fresh spring air. I don’t find it projecting all that much. It’s a whisper of a vegetable garden that clings to the skin. I haven’t smelled anything quite like it & perhaps that’s why I’ve returned to this sample for the fourth day in a row. I find it layers nicely with florals, like Gucci Bloom, or Narciso Rodriguez for Her. A perfect spring scent that I may consider buying a small bottle of.

Update: I bought that small bottle & find it a dry, yet fresh scent, great for daytime wear in this 100+ degree summer heat. It’s definitely a green, leafy garden in bottle.

Aelis

One of the most distinctive, unique fragrances I have ever smelled.
I first tried it on an October evening a couple of years ago. The opening was bursting with citrus and vegetables - I could definitely smell the tomato leaf and the carrot and both just fit in beautifully and didn't overwhelm my nose. Very rich, very juicy. However, the magic came with the drydown. I smelled my wrist an hour or so later and found myself completely mesmerized. There was something quietly exotic, sweet, yet so sophisticated emanating from my skin. It was also quite feminine and rather dense, consistent. A very well-defined drydown. Beautiful.
Fast forward to spring/summer, when I became the happy owner of a mini 7 ml bottle. The warmer the weather, the more bothered I felt by something in the top notes that I hadn't noticed before. Something sharp and aquatic pinching my nostrils, ruining it for me. The magical drydown was nowhere to be found. Could it be due to difference in temperature/humidity? A reformulation? No idea. However, every fragrance enthusiast should probably try this one, simply for the sake of it. You will probably either love it or hate it, though, not much middle ground here.
Interesting and quirky, not to be oversprayed and not a safe blind buy.

Calinare

For some reason, it smells like a brand new fresh airbed lol and I love it!

weazal

Opens with spicy grapefruit zest and savory carrot that’s also similar to wall paint. Quickly settles into soapy, sweet, green mango. Dominated by mysterious, damp musk and dusty peppercorn. Not much green, more spicy/bitter stems.

People who don’t like green notes seem to favor this, but I prefer others in this line.

The more it warms, the more fruity florals radiate, but the dry powder is stale/elderly. After an hour or 2, the obnoxious chalkiness is thankfully replaced by a perfect blend of fresh aquatic and green notes.

Overall, too brusque and imperfect despite a fine finish.

clintjr82

As man this is an awesome freshy for me in the end. I went in buying the 10 ml sample with no expectations. After all the overwhelming compliments . I bought the full bottle. A good summer scent to stand out, forget Acqua Di Gio. Jardin Sur nil, Mefisto, Mancera Cedrat Boise , Sailing day, Bvgari Aqua and Costs Azzura Acqua are my top 6 summer rotational fragrances.

Dcarlo

Un jardín sur le Nile is my favorite from this collection.
To me it reminds me of a sunny summer day in the country side on the way to the beach.
Refreshing citrus with mouthwatering mango, sublime lotus, herbs and woods make this a glorious fragrance for weekend getaways during the warmer months.
It’s very discrete, nothing that screams perfume but has a very decent longevity on skin.
Perfect for office hours and practically any time.
A delightful perfume in deed.

heavyindustry

Sur le Nil is a scent I haven't pinned down. Though I was sure it was a 'fresh citrus-y floral' the first time I wore it, every subsequent wear has been a different experience. It can be called many things: soapy, fruity, vegetal, floral, a chameleon in the summer scent line-up. It definitely cannot be called simple. The central accord is complex and heavily textured. It's fruity with sweet lemon one day, on another it'll be floral with strong aquatics of peony and lotus, reminiscent of minimalistic 2000s scents of its time. Unlike those aquatic scents, there is almost a creaminess behind the sweetness as the vegetal notes, musk and resins fill the scent with body. It's hard to realise how stem-my, vegetal notes can realise this effect, so try it for yourself! The scent is very long wearing for what should be an EDT, I can detect the scent projecting for over 6 hours. There's definitely more to the scent than meets the eye.

sbmmbs21

WHY does this have to be so weak?! It’s a skin scent that you can only smell when sniffing your wrist within half an hour 😩 any way I love love love this scent… It’s possibly one of my favourite summery scents of all time as it transports me to memories of holidays in Italy & France as a child. Even though its name is “on the Nile” it gives me big Mediterranean vibes.

It’s very green & herbaceous & in some ways reminiscent of mosquito repellent (which I weirdly adore!)

Makes me feel nostalgic, like I’m sat outside around a dinner table in a pine forest on a hot summer’s evening.

Just such a shame that it’s so weak, I wear fragrances for me not for other people, but it’s not convenient walking round with your wrist under your nose 🤣 even spraying on clothes doesn’t really help the longevity. Just wish it lasted longer!

Ieuan

Beautifully light - both aquatic and green.

sakurafields

I grew up in a tropical country known for growing the sweetest mangoes in the world so this smells like home. The opening is tangy, sharp green mangoes--the sourest mangoes in their prime--mixed with slightly bitter, freshly-cut grapefruit. I love love love this smell! Reminds me of granny's backyard. The first time I sprayed this, I was disappointed... The mango scent stayed after an hour, then the scent transitioned to something synonymous to car air freshener. Then it disappeared!

I wanted to give it away, but my rule of thumb with new scents is to wear it at least 3 days straight. So, on the second day (much sunnier than the first), I spritz it at the back of my hand and that's when the aroma transformed. It no longer reminds me of car air freshener... the mango notes became super subdued, like the scent of new, growing mango leaves. I can't smell the tomatoes and carrots unless I seek them out! I adore the transparent drydown. There's just something natural with this scent. On the third day, I'm in like and can't wait to wear it for summer. I can see myself wearing this with forest-hued or summery clothes, but absolutely not when I'm wearing white.

Don't blind buy.

bambieu

Clean scent, very unique. Fresh out the shower vibes. I reach for it on days I just want to smell like i’ve been picking through my garden, or anytime i’m wearing a lively green color. It’s nice.

Himawarinonioi

I danced around this for ages when it first came out.
I remember re-visiting the perfume store, spraying this on paper and my wrist over and over again.
It smelled like a stroll along lush Nile Delta.

Then I bought it. And the headaches started. I couldn't smell it for a second without wanting it off my skin.
I sold it way cheaper than I should have.
On my skin this suddenly turned murky, cloying. Sticky sweaty greens like rotten leaves in brackish water.

alternateu

Lovely! Beautiful, bright, green, juicy.
The tomato is very photorealistic to me, and is almost tart/sour, smelling like tomato leaf. I don't get much mango on my skin, i don't get much of the base notes either as unfortunately it only lasts about 3-4 hours on me. While the longevity is poor, the projection is not bad - average.
I gifted it to my mother - she's someone who prefers clean, "bright", non-offensive and very juicy perfumes. It's a beautiful perfume to splash on, and that tomato note is incredible.

nurhalimazfar

The longevity has a good chemistry with my skin ,I don't know why people say this are disappear really fast on their skin. To me it really stand so well. I love this kind of floral fragrance especially the green mango. I got very green scent and a little bit soapy hint. truly represent the Nile River I think

kalhie

As it usually happens, there a lots of mixed reviews for this one. I personally loved this at first try, in an airport duty free, and I thought maybe it was because it really lifted my spirit after being trapped in a plane for 12 hours. So everytime I tried it I kept liking it more and more. There is a "paper" quality for me, someone said below it reminded them of actual papyrus, but having not smelled a papyrus myself, I cannot confirm. This is green, soft, watery and really sends my imagination to the Nile. I don't get the artificial / soapy smell, and after a while the green and lotus stay soft on my skin. Am I influenced by the name? Does my skin chemistry just work with this one? I don't know. But after many years wanting this little jewel I ended up buying it online in the US and shipped to my country, where it cannot be found; that's how much I liked it, as some people have liked it. Definitely try it out before buying as this is not a cheapie. And the people who dislike it really do dislike it, so don't risk it!

SaraSeven

I had high hopes for this fragrance because it has many notes I adore. Unfortunately this is a flat scent with no sillage and no staying power. If you like extremely light and one dimensional fresh citrus scents this could be for you, but it isn't to my taste.

on-that-day

I want to love this, but I only like it.

Opens with the nice faux-grapefruit accord alongside the faux-green mango (not knocking either, they're both very nice). On me, sadly, they die down very fast and I'm left with a pleasant, but very powdery, fragrance. A bit soapy floral, but mostly - to borrow the perfect word from the review beneath this - dusty. It reminds me of actual papyrus, which is a very nice association considering this is Sur le Nil, but it doesn't have the freshness, or the watery and vegetal components that I see others getting from it. Without those, it's a very linear scent of "refreshing start -> dusty papyrus" and leaves me a little disappointed. I think, perhaps, this one just doesn't agree with my skin chemistry - I get far more complexity off paper than off my arm.

Even in its "I hate your skin and shan't do what I'm supposed to" linear format, it smells uncommon. It doesn't call to mind anything except itself, standing apart from other scents in the way JCE scents often do. I appreciate it, like it, but will always be a little sad that it feels so apathetic to my skin. My skin is innocent, Sur le Nil! It did nothing to deserve your dislike!

It's extra disappointing as it seems to be the best seller of the line, so lots of beautiful sets with matching soap/lotion are quite widely available. The longevity and sillage are on par with Un Jardin en Mediterranee; a few hours of projection, then a few hours more of skin scent, outperforming Sur le Toit and Monsieur Li.

Safe blind buy? Actually, for the price, I'd say no, test it first. It's certainly inoffensive and safe if you're on board with all the notes, but you can't truly know which notes will turn up and which ones will awkwardly disappear backwards into a hedge, Homer Simpson style.

shoujomarina

not a safe blind buy! i’m actually still needing to take this in because i’m shocked a perfume could even smell this way lol. it literally smells like vegetables. tomato, carrots, and wall-paint. literally the chemicals and headache you get from freshly painted walls. i’m still in shock bc i don’t understand what everyone is smelling based off these comments. i will update this post when it dries down lol. i wanted to smell like a fairy garden :( never felt so disgusted by a perfume at first sniff. im hoping that the dry down comes and saves this

update: theres a soapy quality that comes as it sits on the skin. some warmth. something similar to a dusty floral, lotus. but still paint.disappointed that i spent a pretty penny on a blind buy but ive learned my lesson.

update: i was able to return it lol

highbymybay

Fresh, inoffensive, unremarkable
Lasting power is not bad for this type of perfume

klioux

The twang and pucker of the green mango and grapefruit give this a sour citrus bite, even in an EDT formulation. Definitely fresh and energizing, if a little sharp.

Compared to the other offerings in the Hermes Jardin line, I appreciate that this one has its place. I can see this as a palate cleanser, a quick slap in the face on a hot day, but I don't love this enough to be full bottle worthy.

Edit: on clothes this is mostly airy sweet mango balanced with sour peel and pith. I wish my skin didn't hang onto the twang so much.

gabkins

you know the white stuff inside an orange peel? I smell that smell very strongly here, alongside a sort of array of freshly opened citrus and some cucumber water. There is a subtle baby powder in the mix as well but not in the "old lady fragrance" kind of powder smell, more like "a baby or toddler could wear this fragrance and it would seem appropriate." It's a genuinely YOUTHFUL baby powder, which isn't a strong note on its own but it definitely is adding a lot to the overall vibe.

I guess I'm saying if you got some baby wipes (or even those moist towellete wipes) and they smelled like this, it would make sense. lol I do actually like this fragrance despite I'm sure how it seems. ;)

Nocciola23

This is a really nice, refreshing and soothing scent. I usually steer clear of aromatic and green scents, but this is a standout for me.
Would love a full bottle.

JuanitaChristensen

This is one of my summer scents, fresh, bright and fruity. I smell the grapefruit at first spritz, mixed with mango and leafy tomatoes. I just wish it would last longer as it really is a great smelling perfume, nonetheless I would call it sublime. Girls try this out if you haven't yet!

memelord

I adore this fragrance and I've been absolutely obsessed since testing it only once. Bright green mango and grapefruit, but with a warm vegetal roundness in the middle? Sort of a barely sweet floral base afterwards but that fullness of the vegetal note sticks around a little too, which keeps it nice and warm. It fades to a skin scent in about 6 hours so not bad on my skin. I am at a loss for how to describe the full impression of this. Try it out to get the full depth of this lush, warm green punch in the face. I'm wearing this all winter to remind me of a bright sunny blooming garden full of herbs, blooming peonies, and fruit trees. Stunning all around.

petshopb

For me it is a good example of every fragrance can be different on the skin of different people.
This is the most beautiful fragrance on my ex-girlfriend.
However, it stinks on my skin.

belinda.1

Enchanted with this and had to have it immediately. A light, airy, almost savoury fresh green scent. What I have always wanted in a green scent.

femmefumes

idk how to feel about this but i've definitely never smelled a fragrance like this before.

shmellow

Very green. Like taking a bite out of a crunchy green tart apple and chasing it with a cold mint lemonade in a garden with a pond surrounded by green herbs and shrubs. The tartness is sharp and prickly and it doesn't round out easily on my skin. Could be refreshing on a hot day, but I don't love it.

pearl421

Am really not sure about this one. I tried it so many times, but it just feels too green for me. Maybe too much "garden" like cut up herbaceous stems versus floral, like a lush, thick green garden in late summer in the shade. On my skin it started green and cold, and after a few hours it stayed green and cold. It's def more of a summer scent and as I'm reviewing this in December I almost wish it could be warm out and then i can give this a fair rating. If you're the type that jives with warmer scents like vanilla and wood, or gourmand scents, I think this is not for you.

cgl312

Newbie here... so in my looong search for a green perfume that I would actually love I decided to try Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. I'm familiar w/ Hermés in general - 24 Fabourg, l'eau de merveilles ((ombre as well). It seems its touted as a Spring Summer - obvs because of the green lightness of it, but to me the tomato or perhaps tomato leaf adds some depth and earthiness to it. It reminds me of a lighter version of Annick Goutal's L'Eau d'Hadrien with its strong tomato leaf. I had that years ago and it just became too strong over time and I stopped enjoying it. Have not purchased Jardin Sur Le Nil yet - i sprayed myself to death :))) at Nordstroms and took a small paper sample to see if I really want to blow up my holiday budget.... Not sure of it's staying power - so far so good - I sprayed at ant 14,00 or so and now its 19,30 and i am smelling a lovely but faint old fashioned almost soapy smell - then I'm getting a whiff of my grandfathers tomato garden.. so quite lovely and sentimental <3 Not sure if its suitable for the rest of the winter here in the north.

yy_hehe

Yet another review, but this time a fragrance by Hermès. I first smelled this in sephora and it was the most wishy washy thing ever. Smelled almost exactly like Elizabeth Arden green tea with that nice floral citrus blend, but nothing too special. However, after purchasing and spraying it on my own skin, it was definitely a game changer no doubt. On first hand, it was the most delicately beautiful fragrance ive ever smelled. It reminded me of those mysterious girls in movies that always have a subtile but nice character development. After about 5 seconds of drying down, it smelled like a sweet fizzy citrus cake mixed with herbs plus the slight tangy-ness that probably came the tomato. Sounds crazy but YES smelled exactly like that. I'm not too sure whether I'm the only one but the grapefruit doesnt come out too much at first. After about a minute or so, the grapefruit became much more prominent and i could finally determine which citrus it was (orange), and i could definitely smell different floral notes (although not prominent). Even so, it was an amazing blend of floral with the herby tangy grapefruit and was definitely one of the best things ive ever smelled in the world of citrus fragrances which i am relatively familar of. When im not putting my wrist in front of my nose and desperately trying to figure out the notes, the sweet sour and tangy grapefruit is all i am smelling even right now when i am typing this (not saying i hate it tho i love it actually haha). When i first smelled this before looking up the notes, i was still wondering why this fragrance smelled so mainstream but also so niche all at the SAME time. I was also wondering where this random tangy-ness came from. When i found out about the tomato, i was definitely very shocked cos i completely forgot that these notes exists too hahaha (defintely proved my point about the tangy feel tho). Surprisingly, being an EDT, this actually lasted a relatively long time since i could smell the base notes even after bathing. The base was really surprising to me since it smelled almost nothing like the top. didnt hate it tho haha. The base had a rather prominent musk that stayed throughout with a teeny weeny bit of grapefruit and a lot of herbs. definitely super subtile tho.

Overall, i would think that this is a more of a feminine scent but i really hate doing this gender differentiating nowadays (being a genz myself haha), but just like many citrus fragrances, i would absolutely love to smell this on men. It will give the perfect cozy after-bath scent. Definitely doesnt have the wood-scrape part of masculine scents but i believe it will still be a game changer for some hahaha. Also, im not too sure why the reviews i see are all negative but i really really do enjoy this scent and i think it makes the perfect mysterious blend that makes you surprised at the notes that comes up only after. For some reason, maybe because its skin chemistry but every note i smell is exactly the notes given in the website hahaha defo a plus point for me.

In general, i personally think that if your a huge grapefruit fan or a citrus junkie like me you should definitely give this fragrance a try! Or, if your someone who is looking for a citrus fragrance but not something too sour or too mainstream and want to feel like a mysterious person , this is EXACTLY what your looking for!!! However, if you like sweet and indulging fragrances or floral fruity sweetness based fragrances ( prada candy, pink sugar etc), definitely give this a pass and not waste your money on it. For cons, i feel that this fragrance is sliiightly pricey for what your getting especially if bought in official or retails. Definitely recommend buying from resellers that sell it cheaper due to dislike or unpopularity.

total point: 9.5/10 ( like this a little more than bergamote calabria but 0.5 is because of the longevity issue for me )

Sparkling Tea

I personally find this to be a bit of a headache inducer as I feel like I am just smelling a mix of everything at once. I wouldn't say it is a good type of fresh scent either, it is very green and naturey, it smells like tangy fruits and vegetables mixed with mud and wet leaves on my skin but definitely fresher on test paper...sadly it did not work for me so I will be selling it but it could work for someone else!

MuralGlobe

It's not a dislike, and it's a little better than okay, but I think I fell victim to the novelty of it rather than the scent itself. I picked it up as a side when I bought Un Jardin En Mediterranee (the real star of the Jardin line tbh).
This fragrance is a definitive green. I'm a citrus lover and usually cannot get enough, but this is just something I would pass up to wear. When I first tried it on my forearm, it was near the aforementioned Mediterranee and Rhubarbe Ecarlete, both of which I much prefer over this.
I think I may be a person who strives for something simple-- my small brain cannot wrap around the complexities (if this is even a complex fragrance). It has a lot of parts to it, at least, and all of it screams "ehhhh". I'm obviously being a bit dramatic but it's hard to put it into words when it's just such an average. It's unique but not something I would always wear.

It's very obviously vegetal in nature. Something in there smells savory amongst the hint of citrus. There's even a bit of spice if you like that sort of thing. It's mature, for sure, and inoffensive. You'd have to smell it before you buy it, though. Smell it by itself, too, so you know what you're actually working with. Not blind buy safe, but you probably wouldn't hate it if you did.

LadyNatalie

This is such a unique perfume. Clean, green, elegant, and uplifting perfumery gem. Jean-Claude Ellena presents Jardin's collection with his own take on fresh perfumes. At first, Un Jardin Sur Le nil smells like citrusy, zesty, sharp grapefruit, backed by fresh-cut leaves, a sour not yet ripe mango fruit so well-blended it makes me think of a crystallized airy garden smell that at some point turns watery thanks to the citrus. Leaning on the green family of perfume, this perfume's composition is quite distinguishable and present throughout its performance. It's like you could see the whole notes appearing all at once when carefully smelling it, I distinguish the citrusy, the green notes, and a bit spicy background crystallizing everything. Some notes here I have never smelled in other fragrances. So, for me, this has to be one of the most unique green perfumes in the department store, another great option for this type of scent would be Chance Eau Fraiche which leans more to the citrusy-woody side of scents but doesn't last as much as the Hermes. Sur Le Nil is my favorite Jardin for everyday wear out of the Hermes collection. Its performance is lengthy for citrusy perfumes as it stays for 6 hours on the skin. This smells beautiful in the year-round sun, it's gentle, and the intimate trail will captivate your company. "What is that bright, delicate green, and intriguing smell?" some may ask about this frag. This is perfect for office wear and safe for health workers as it probably won't intrude on someone's nose. I give it a 9.5 out of 10.

dezaval

Beautiful! The notes in this are very interesting! Tomato, carot, bulrush (that probably gives the watery effect?)... Adding the grapefruit here, these are the notes I detect the most. BUT, this doesn't smell like veggies. It' s rather sweet, lightly green, ideal for those who are afraid to wear REALLY green fragrances. From all the line (I wish Hermes had them in EDP, too!) I feel this lasts the most. Very beautiful, delicious and sunny fragrance, ideal for late spring till early fall. Inoffensive and very stylish.

erika.isme.98

Kinda foul tbh

jesz

Pretty simple, straightforward fresh green citrus. It's not very strong. More on the elegant yet non-fussy side. A very easy wear. Gentle.

One family member thinks it smells like "a sporty soccer mom".
The rest of my family finds it pleasant, and not very noticeable.

BougieGirlShops

This is a lovely unassuming scent. At first spray it is a burst of bright juicy citrus and I can certainly pick out the mango. Once it dries down it rounds out with the florals, especially the hiacynth. The incense does add a bit of deptth and it's what sets it apart from other many citrus/floral scents out there.

Sillage is moderate, projection quite poor.

It's a very pretty scent, but honestly nothing particularly memorable and you can probably find alternatives for a lower price. I will likely use up what I have because it's an easy reach and inoffensive but I wouldn't consider re-purchasing.

COLOREDGIRLSHUFFLE

It's citrus grass that mellows into grassy musk. It's just okay. Smells like soap; you could wear it if you're a health care provider and want to smell like an antiseptic with a touch of citrus floral. These Hermes fragrances haven't been stellar for me so far.

bodnerrachel

I have a brand new bottle 1.6 oz. in a box (sprayed once) that I would love to trade with someone.

airyfairy

This smells like the color chartreuse and frog bog. This is what I wear hiking through the forest by the creek on a second date with a man who wears suits. It's THAT kind of scent. Bougie Y2K.

Frantheone

I tried out this bad boy today. It smelled AMAZING on paper, so I decided to spray myself. At first, I did not like it at all on my skin, it came super sour. I normally enjoy citrus but there was something that made it smell stale on my skin. Ten minutes later, I sniffed again. It was still very sour, but I started to get some spicy notes, which I liked very much. Half an hour later I actually enjoyed that it smelled on my skin. Fresh, peppery, clean but not quite special.

lesritesdelavie

I bought it after a round in a perfume shop with my boyfriend. After half an hour of smelling bunch of mainstream fragrances his eyes lit up when I let him smell the Jardin Sur Le Nil and he told me I smelled like I had just woken up in a green bush :D
This is a very green fragrance but not sharp at all, it had a delicate feel with a dry-down that reminds me slightly a powdery violet. You also can't overspray it really. It makes me feel fresh and expensive and happy. It is a summer fragrance but I will for sure take this piece of sunny field into winter with me.

KerriZ

Un Jardin sur le NIl is a very nice fragrance. Immediate pop of citrus, tomato and carrot..so I would say heavily vegetal. Oranges rushes up to front and center but then the whole perfume dissipates rapidly. After an hour I smelled the faint remnants of the scent I demo'd yesterday.

AurelieGeuz

I just came back from a 4 week holiday in Spain and one of the fragrances I took with me was Un jardin sur le Nil.
We had 30+ degrees the entire month and I used this daily as an inoffensive easy around the house fragrance. It is very light but pleasant. Would I buy this again? NO! This is not necessarily because of the smell but more because I have over 50 perfumes and want to try new ones. But I will for sure finish my 100 ml when I want a light and fresh fragrance.

Laurus

Smells very green and fresh without being aquatic, which I would not like. I could not stop smelling my wrist. I love this actually .

mrsmari

In general, this fragrance is more floral than fruity. I like the pyramid, but there are too many flowers. This makes it completely ordinary. Banal water, longevity is very weak.

derby2169

I'm no a big fan of the jardin series overall, but Sur le Nil is definitely a solid one. The top has a very fresh ozonic mildly green leafy feel revealing a transparent floral woody arrangement underneath, musky, mildly powdery, mildly sweet and very radiant. Very much walking through a damp tomato patch, of course not in a picture perfect sense, more so the emotion of doing so, the vibrancy and brightness of the experience.
Strangely it goes a bit peppery in distant dry down on my skin but I actually enjoy it

100% unisex, easy to wear in the warmer months..

funeralparty

I love the notes but I’m disappointed by the weak longevity of this for a designer fragrance. Usually I put on perfume at around 6:30 and it almost always lasts until I get to work at 8… but this one did not. I’m glad I only got the travel spray because the full size would not be very good value for the money… although I wish it was because the grapefruit/mango/tomato with subtle florals are so nice together :( It reminds me of the greenhouse I used to work at

Tiffasuzuki

This perfume very much smells like washing your face with grapefruit facial cleanser. It’s refreshing, aquatic and light. You can definitely pick up the carrot and tomato in the opening, which is jarring to think about but strangely works for the scent. It dries down to a clean aquatic skin scent perfect for a summer day.

aralsheart

Very citrus-y, zesty, and fresh, but unfortunately gave me a headache. It also smells weirdly... artificial? Idk. Not for me.

ajraccounts

Zesty citrusy fresh fruit on top of pleasant facial cleanser smell. To be specific, this has a synthetic watery note (calone relative most likely) which I swear I recognize from a facial cleanser I used to have. And which I liked! But as a $7 facial cleanser (Evian, got it in Paris once, ring a bell for anyone?), not a $100+ EDT. I mean, I will grant JCE/Hermes that it has an underlying elegance (I think the florals and some of the base notes) that one wouldn't get in cheaper EDTs... I think. (Really should test out 4711, etc. to see if this is actually true.) But the fake water note is so strong it dominates over everything else. Meh. Lastly, "epheremal" is the nice way to describe its lasting power.

Yasmeene

Definitely more vegetal than anything. I can't get much citrus but the carrot is dominating (can't get tomato at all though?? That spicier vegetal scent. Which is strange as people often bring it up). If this fragrance were sweeter, it would be much more wearable! But it's such a unique, enjoyable experience! Has to be worn in those warmer, greener seasons like spring and summer. You know, the gardening months.

ursulet

It smells like bitter citruses and grass. Not the best performance either. It reminds me of Elizabeth Arden green tea.

yasemink

I loved the opening of this. It starts with a mix of floral, fruity, veggie smells and some may find it too sharp or high. It reminded me of the food market from my childhood full of fresh fruits and vegetables where all the smells were mixing in the air under the hot Mediterranean sun. More specifically, the smell of tomatoes and tomato stems (and some parsley and other greens?) under the sun was reimagined in this.

However, after a while, this exciting combination of smells is lost and you are left with more floral and weaker smells. This could be peonies and others, which is not easy to distinguish unfortunately.

I really enjoyed the beginning but I am disappointed with how quickly it disappears and becomes weaker and uninteresting.

JupiterMoon

Light and fresh green garden type of scent. Floral and vegetal with some spiciness. Didn't last very long but it was pleasant. A gentle, natural-smelling fragrance. Great for spring and sunny days.

UPDATE: There's a green sharpness from the tomato that overrides the floral but this is a good mix of a wide selection of garden scents that feels complex and natural.

basgam

A very fresh, citrusy-green cologne, I would say. I absolutely adore it, you can't go wrong with it and it's close to the skin fragrance, even when I overspray it. To me, this is a high-class refreshing scent, and whenever I smell it, I think of a 'polished' lady with money! Hermes did a really good job here, that's for sure!

maritzza

I think it is okay, a fresh and floral scent that is also unique. Not bad! The first impression was too sharp for me but the scent developed nicely. For me this could work as a casual scent during the day.

violeteme

My favorite from the line. It's delightful, refreshing and unique. The bulrush note changes everything and it is not used in perfumery too often, so it does not smell like just any other perfume out there. +

RandomPatterned

Disclaimer, I am a sucker for JCE's Jardins. I love how everyone has varying perceptions of this fragrance. I find it opens like very juicy fruits with hints of veggie peels and stems. It then quickly changes and seems similar to Eau des Merveilles - which apparently I find this happens for me for most of JCE's creations. The dry down is balanced but oddly seems like something I can't describe accurately. Perhaps it's something I perceive as a jam like floral similar to what I think Stella by Stella McCartney would be if it was prominent of other florals instead of roses. Sur Le Nil is watery, floral, sweet, but not too powdery, while retaining some warmth, spices and a bit of the aromatic greenness. At this point I think I change my mind frequently about which Jardin is my favorite, but I consider this a conundrum I'm happy to embrace.

coffeefifofum

Skin test from the Nordstroms counter on a warm day. Decent projection at first but a floral skin scent in half an hour. Refreshing but smells a little too high end and well considered to file it as a freshie. Bright greens (tomato should probably be tomato leaf) to open, floral mid, getting more floral and powder than anything else in the base. Maybe that's the iris. Restrained sweetness. Wearable, ageless, office safe, leans feminine.

CeeTee

I adore this! Perfect for a scorching day. Aquatic, vegetal, and very ‘elevated’ for this profile of scent.

I have to use it generously, to get better lasting power and projection because it is light. But even when overused, I can’t see this ever being offensive or overpowering for you, or those around you.

This will be a staple in my summer collection. It’s fresh, yet sophisticated, and oh so unique! I’m obsessed!
————————
*Edit: With heat and sweat, (sorry 😂) I get even more enduring, gorgeous wafts. I live!

cecfor

Very much grape in topnotes. I don’t find much else there. Rather longlasting grapetop. The drydown is nice where the most noticeable note to me is inscence. Long lasting and moderate sillage. The middle part is hard to describe to me, a mix between top and base is the closest I get. Actually I find this a bit odd. The drydown is the part I like most, tho still a bit odd. Not the one I use most or long for often, but sometimes it is nice to have something different.

jeissi

High quality eau de toilet. I'm not getting cinnamon. I don't expect it to last, it's an eau de toilet after all and the notes are light. Citrusy, fresh, floral and slightly powdery.

emmayoung537

Best gift from my best friend. He got me this on my last birthday and since then this is one fragrance, I am wearing all day every day. I loved it so so much. This is an uplifting and amazing fragrance that brings all the joys and happiness around. Such a masterpiece that is fresh, somewhat sweet and sour, tangy aroma along with some of the carrots and tomato leaf fragrance. To me, this fragrance seems to be evocative with the hyacinth adding to green and sharp vibes altogether. I call it my aquatic floral fresh fragrance that brings natural and refreshing vibes. Best for hot weather like summer and hot days.

June venus

A very fresh citrus scent, green, airy. As soon as I spray it I feel the grapefruit and tomato on my skin. Of the whole pyramid are the only notes that I can hear distinctly.
Jardin sur le Mail immediately makes me summer and I see myself with friends at the bar amidst laughter and noises drinking a centrifuged vegetable and tomato with also the leaves and a sprinkling of grapefruit and orange.
Lotus, Bulrush and Hyacinth could give it a little wateriness but no, I feel it is so herbaceous. I wear it only when it is very hot, never in winter and not even in spring

petcake

I wore this on a day I knew I'd be busy running errands; I just wanted something simple & fresh that I wouldn't have to think about. Maybe that doesn't sound incredibly inspiring, but every time I've sniffed my wrist I've enjoyed Un Jardin Sur Le Nil so much. Clean, fresh, feminine, not too sweet. Obviously these light notes don't have staying power, but I like my scents close to the skin anyway. Will wear again.

Ticketgirl

This an absolute dream of a fragrance. I totally love it. The green mango! Every nuance is a pleasure. I just wish it had some staying power. But, that's the way of modern fragrance, it seems. And every Hermes I have is the same. I have to spray and spray and spray. I've used about 5 ML so far today, and will probably finish the 8 ML purse spray before bed. At $150 a bottle, this is a luxury, especially when you think about the cost per spray. But, for me...it's worth it.

Szafirowy czar

It's my favourite "Jardin" so far ❤️ quite refreshing, a little sweet but not too much. However, despite a great opening, it leaves me with a bit of an odd after-smell, as if the fragrance went bad or something. It remids me of "Fico di Amalfi" which is my number one in citrusy refreshing summer category

eva.daisy.88

Tried it on a tester strip today - I wasn’t blown away as much as I thought I would be, and within 2 minutes, most of the interesting notes were gone. Maybe it’s different on the skin, but the paper tester did disappoint.

sinusproblems

clean, airy and elegant. VERY soft and mildly headachey. it's a pretty smell, but with the number of ingredients listed, I hoped it would smell more complex on my skin. when I spray it on paper, I definitely smell more of the complexity and get what it could be, but on me, it just turns into expensive soap.

kingderella

Gentle, soft, floral, aquatic. On the feminine side of unisex.
It smells a bit too much like fabric softener to me.

This is such an interesting and unique fragrance. It's bright, with very natural vegetal notes. I definitely got the tomato and carrots. It's surprisingly refreshing as well and has a really nice dry down. So far I got weak projection.

Edit: After wear test, the tomato note in the opening was bothering me, but after a few minutes the dry down is really nice so it seems worth it to me.

I have tried it several times. This perfume has a lovely dry-down, I get the carrot for sure. However, it starts out like a cleaning product.

Un Jardin Sur le Nil is a radiant, uplifting fresh scent that is beautifully composed and multifaceted, but unfortunately doesn't last very long. This scent is typical of Jean-Claude Ellena's famed light touch - it is watercolour-like, transparent and masterfully rendered.

SLN opens with bright citrus notes - grapefruit takes the lead, providing luminous freshness, bolstered by sweet, zesty orange. A hint of mango adds juicy sweetness, but it becomes quite vegetal - a more unusual path for a light, fresh scent. It really works however - I get green tomato stem, and a hint of freshly grated carrot. It becomes quite green as it develops, like freshly-cut grass and dewy florals - notably peony and a soft hint of iris. It reminds me of a garden in late spring after a shower of rain.

It becomes unexpected musky and powdery as it develops, with some smoky incense adding interest as it dries down. Cinnamon adds a hint of sweet spice, and it becomes a woody, musky skin scent as it fades, slightly verdant to the end. Sillage and longevity are moderate at a push - as many other reviewers have said, its performance is disappointing.

Overall, SLN is creative and original, featuring unexpected twists and turns, yet is cohesive, resulting in a light, fresh scent that manages to stand out in an overcrowded category. Feminine-leaning in my opinion, but unisex depending on personal preference. A thing of beauty yet utterly interesting, M. Ellena has done it again. Brilliant. 4.5/5.

WOW! The ultimate fresh fragrance, smells absolutely divine❣ love this!! 💗

Anelalm

I absolutely love this, fresh and elegant; shame it doesn’t last on me, I would sniff my wrist all day if it lasted.

The most gorgeous scent, masterpiece, well blended. Love, love, love!!!
Unique - just my scent, it is difficult to find the substitute.
I love fresh, fizzy, citrusy, green fragrances.
Unisex definitely.
Unfortunately - longevity is weak.

Fresh, clean, earthy and sweetly vegetal. This is the scent of mid to late spring for me. It is beautiful, like I am rolling around in my garden and wet dewy grass. This is what I am wearing today as I wait for my husband who is in surgery. It is a comfort to me. It smells healthy!

tientsin973

Sadly I don't like this one at all. All I get from it is fresh cut grass and not in a good way! It's not an offensive scent but it gives off 'pine' air freshener - not something I want to smell of!

Dorothy812

Wow. Am I ever going to get an Ellena that I don't love? Very fresh, vegetal, uplifting but not intrusive. My husband loves it too. I thought it had faded away from my skin, but I put it on me before bed, and he could smell it in the morning!

This is no doubt the very definition of Spring time in a bottle. The smell of greenery emerging back out with glee to meet the suns warm welcome. Everything is green, crisp and new! Everything sparkles and evokes a sense of calm. One of the most unique scent compositions out there!

Yes it doesn’t project far and wide and it doesn’t last beyond 6 hours. But that’s precisely the point of a perfume like this.

User123

This one smells like some of the lemonades I drink. Very fizzy. I like it, but not sure yet if I love it.

richmilton

Not really for guys unless you love unisex scents. This is very feminine, not a real green scent, more of a fresh cut cucumber dipped in water infused with flowers and powder. Would not mine my wife smelling like this. But would not wear this girly scent at any price.

Fragmeister

Oh yes. Green , vegetal, fresh garden. You get that sourish melon right off the top, this is going to shine in the high heat. A bit overpriced for the lackluster performance but the whiff is indeed a pleasant one. Like when you snap green vegetables in half and immediately sticking them up to your shnoz.

I don't know if I really like the scent? it's like whimsical in a way, so it takes away the fact that it's a Perfume? I can detect all the notes in here, like the green Mango, grapefruit, tomato, carrot, orange, Hiacynth, except for the Peony & Lotus, which I love! The opening is a strong green Mango. Which is nice, but the Hiacynth over powers the other florals. You can even smell the cinnamon..but it's very lite? Only thing is that it's mostly green, but it's not an uplifting or happy scent? Which I always look for. The vegetables and the grapefruit in here are pretty prominent and on that note, I don't really know where I could wear this to? It's not the perfume I thought it would be. I was thinking it was somewhere along the lines of a Gerlain like scent? Though the dry down is quite powdery. I've never smelled anything like it? I do not recommend it. It smells like a bountiful Farmer's Market! Sorry..it's the truth.

Mountain_Man

This is the perfume version of cucumber lime infused water. Not literally, since there are no cucumber and lime notes in it, but it’s the only way to describe its freshness. It’s clean, but in an elegant way and it’s very well-balanced. This was a blind buy for me that was well worth it. It’s fruity and floral and earthy and crisp and sweet all at the same time!

JmThms

Fresh and vegetal, with mild fruit and floral subsumed beneath. Garden-esq, as it is supposed to be. Very artsy/crafty. Photorealistic in a way but blended into sort of an ethereal impression of a garden. Maybe this could serve as a fragrance companion to the mysterious Voynich manuscript's herbal and botanical illustrations 😂. And feminine. Not for me to wear, but its beauty has grown on me. I can really appreciate its beauty now. I need to find the right woman that would also appreciate the beauty in this and gift it.

liebecherie

It smells like a cleaning spray I have. A clean lemon spray. Not for me.

I think that Sur Le Nil is very similar to Sur Le Toit, but Nil is more masculine perfume than Toit. I can definitely say that Nil, Toit, Mousson are my favorites from the Jardin Collection. They perform at best during the summer, so if you are living in hot dry or tropical climate you definitely would be happy to wear them🌿🍃🌱

sondermelon

I wore this a lot in winter, but now it's spring, and I love wearing this even more!

Opening: sharp grapefruit, strong mango peel notes, and a lot of carrot
Middle: smooth, sweet, and slightly powdery florals with a hint of leafiness/earthiness
Dry down: spiced fruit and herbal, peel/fruit leather scent kind of reintroduces itself, obligatory musk

It's very well blended and honestly it gets a bit hard to distinguish these phases. I've just worn this perfume a lot. I really love the fresh bitterness of it as someone who eats a lot of dried fruit leather AND loves a good bitter grapefruit. It screams spring to me. I thought it would be sweeter in spring, but it really retains its vegetable-like characteristics in the heat, which I love. It can be a bit woodsy at times, but what college student doesn't love a good woodser? I like that on top of all the freshness, there's a strong earthy core in the back of this scent that really anchors it together. It definitely isn't long lasting and I really think this should be kept as a day scent. I have to say, it smells more like a morning garden to me, and I prefer not to wear it in the afternoon. It doesn't have the greatest longevity and I tend to sweat this one off pretty easily. Worn in the morning, it's a great scent to perk you up, and even better it's subtle and clean enough not to distract others! It has a presence, but it doesn't demand attention, so this can honestly be worn in the office or on campus.

With how hot and humid Florida gets during the summer, I think this is too crisp to be a summer scent for me, but it is a nice breath of fresh air for spring. This is a solid staple for me, definitely going to need to invest in an actual bottle or a larger decant at some point.

tatVC

Nostalgic and garden like scent, (mostly mango skin, spice and carrots) but it works very well, I imagine someone in a desert oasis would wear this.
