Oke this is heavenly!! The ultimate boudoir scent 😍💗 so soft and sexy. Just brilliant. 🥲

I decided to write my update in a new review!
Yesterday, when i tested this at the store, i wrote and honestly found that the opening was screechy and weird and i could only smell ginger and orange blossom.

But today i opened my own bottle that i ordered and received, (yes i blind bought this perfume🙂)
And after i took a bath after work today, i misted myself with it (i read this in one of the reviews, sorry i can't recall from who, bc i literally read them all yesterday ☺️)
...
I got this soft divine, sexy feminine scent, animalistic but very feminine, floral and powdery. In an earthy way, nothing screechy at all.

I think perhaps the bottle at the store has been out on the shelf too long, or maybe my olfactive organ works different when i'm out and about, i noticed this with other perfumes too.
☺️

Just wanted to share, don't give up on this after one try! 🥰

Thanks again monsieur Cavallier 😘🌺
In Poême you gave me my everyday and signature scent, and with Classique my seductive boudoir scent. What more does a woman need?

Parfluive

First of all, for me the search for a great perfume, the perfect perfume ended with Poême, really, honestly, the most gorgeous perfume in the wold!

But i got curious, as this one's often compared with Poême AND blended/created by Jaques Cavallier. I got very curious indeed.

I went to the Paris ici Xl store to ask the lady behind the counter if she would please let me smell Classique by Jpg, and she misted my wrist twice. The lady was so sweet btw 🤍

Oh my that opening was NOT my thing. Heavy orange blossom and ginger, heavy but an overall weak scent at the same time. A bit all purpose cleaner like.
Nothing like Poême ofc, bc there the warmth is present straight from the beginning. Iykyk.

But that drydown, oh man, sooooo good. I never knew jpg classique back in the day, but now i remember my best girlfriend in high school, and she wore this!! This is how she smelled. (Good memories obviously and Jayyyy for that😊💞)

For me personally the drydown is worth the wait kind of good.

It's powder, yes, you have to like powdery scents to like this. And very floral too. But also
warm, cozy, and the orange blossom is even still here, in a well blended way.

It does not really remind me of Poême that much? To get a sense of that i have to wear it more... Maybe a little ylang ylang every now and then... it's good tho, if you can get past the opening, which lasted half an hour this first time. On skin.

Long story short, the beginning is screechy and weird and misleadingly cheap, but that opening doesn't last long. And it develops into an absolutely gorgeous scent! I love it!!

Also another perfume i loved reading all the reviews from, so nice to get to know others' experiences with beloved and not so beloved scents.

🥰

qianqian

Smells like an old bar of soap but it's clean and warm. Orange blossom, star anise and vanilla are easy to detect. Good quality.

LLilies

Idc i LOVEEE this so much!! It smells like incense and peach. Such a unique scent imo nothing like i’ve ever smelt before in a perfume. It’s gorgeous, and btw i’m a teen so it isn’t just for older people. If you wear this i might be in love with u

Saveria

This perfume rocked my childhood and adolescence, and not only because my mother wore it but also because my father gifted it to me. Whether it's me, my sisters or my mother, we've all worn it at one time or another. A “classic” therefore...

I'm quite surprised to see that it has so many ingredients, for me it's mainly a floral, vanilla, powdery and sweet scent. Nothing exceptional, it's true, very "classic", it's true, and yet well enough done for it to grab my attention. So classic in fact that it is - in my opinion - timeless.

Plus, I really love the bottle ;)

vsmr

The spice in this is too strong for closed surroundings. Other than that, it’s a nice scent.

Hunter222

JPG was for the coolest of the cool, they intimidated me, the people and the fragrance. Then when I finally tried it, it just didn’t work on me. Fast forward 30yrs(wtf lol) I bought an unopened oldie just for the bottle. Sprayed once, screeching, screamed right at me. nope, still not for me. And so she sat for almost a year. Misted myself again in a ‘what haven’t I been wearing’ wander through my collection and Wow! There it is! What a difference, so smooth, creamy and addictive.
It’s like a sexy sweater dress. As sexy as hell, turns heads, lingering hugs, but still just the coziest sweater ever. Leaves a trail but doesn’t radiate off me, which is my ideal. Lasts long on my skin, 6+hrs and ages on my sweater. I am ridiculously pleased, yes, I am a perfume pleaser lol, I really want my frags to love me back!

dilldaisy

first, let me get it out of the way—i really love this bottle and i also love reading all of the reviews below. i love that fragrance has the ability to conjure such fond memories for others :) i am NOT a white floral person but i was really impressed by this... a really creamy, cozy, "cool girl" blend that surpassed my expectations. i suppose it's a classique! for a reason after all...

Dlittlegarden

This is a big love, and takes me back to being in middle school in early 90s San Francisco (back when it was still a little grungy and not all about .coms). I was visiting my cool aunts, who maybe don't fit the typical cool aunt stereotype because they were way cooler. My cool aunts are my mom's gay artist sister and her pompadoured partner who owned a chic hair salon and drove Porsche Carrera.

This fragrance reminds me of hanging out in the salon, flipping through fashion magazines, listening to A Deeper Love (C+C Music Factory ft. Aretha Franklin), and breathing in the smell of fancy shampoo and hairspray. It is so cool girl, glam, indulgent and a little irreverent.

Now just yesterday in my Can't Stop Loving You review, I said I'm not a big fan of orange blossom scents but this is obviously a major exception. This perfume is so complex, juicy and yet spicy aromatic, with soft musky florals and spiky florals alike. I don't think any other orange blossomed fragrance will ever come close for me.

asimpleperfumelover

Classic, warm, kind of a soapy floral, reminds me of Poeme but without the beauty of those honeyed yellow flowers.

DIARY OF A 12 YEAR OLD GAY KID

I became so obsessed with the bottle shape that I made my mom buy this for herself just so I could hold it in my hands...in real life!

The ad campaigns I would see for this fragrance in glossy fashion magazine pages was out of this world for me. I wanted to be glamorous like the model wearing the tin can lid hat, black latex opera gloves, black lipstick and her face concealed by the hat. In my mind, it was G-L-A-M-O-U-R in a bottle and I wanted it!

My mom was a Chanel #5 gal, and although you might think they were in the same group scent-wise....Classique was more exotic. I would sneak a spray on my wrists here and there when she wasn't around. Although, I am pretty sure she knew because the aroma projected a lot and lingered around quite a bit.

Decades later into my VERY adult gay life, I bought a small bottle for myself and I reminisced every time I would spray it. I would even use it in my aroma diffuser. I love how sweet the scent is. The iris and musk are the more heightened notes in this potion. It is not an easy wear if you don't have a trained nose...it's more of an acquired taste I would say.

My final take is this: I think the model's hair under the tin lid hat was brunette. Blonds may have more fun....but a brunette will keep you guessing. And this frangrance does JUST that!

vowsandperfumes

Another one of my all time favorites! This too is my comfort perfume and I always love wearing this when I'm not craving anything sweet. This is sexy, confident, strong, and definitely makes a statement. It is beautifully blended but the notes that stand out the most to me are the anise, orange, orchid, amber, vanilla and cinnamon. This is very warm spicy and powdery and always makes me feel elegant and upbeat. This is certainly a classic for a reason :)

IVamp

When I was a kid in the 90s, this was the kind of perfume worn by the women I wanted to be like. Mom, when she was all dressed up, wearing The Lipstick - that red one in the heavy golden tube, that she would let me smell but not wear. The cool aunts with their big coats and black stiletto pumps. Oh, how I couldn't wait to grow up so that I could color my hair, wear high heels and makeup, and...have a *real* perfume, just like this! The name says it all, really - an absolutely classic scent, suitable for those who like the retro beauty icons kind of style. Definitely more for a mature lady, it's complex but very well balanced with no sharp notes, it's smooth and elegant, luxurious, and necraty sweet. Very similar to Poeme, but I find Poeme more intense and long-lasting. If you like this kind of nostalgic intense amber-florals, this is worth a try.

LMC27

This is my best friend’s signature scent. She let me try it when visiting and the longevity is impressive! It’s a lot on first spray - the star anise is a punch in the face - but it quickly settles down into powdery sweetness that 9 hours later I can still smell on my hand (from one spray). It’s not for a gourmand lover, it’s definitely for those who prefer a mature, “traditional” perfume. That being said, it’s definitely one everyone should try, just to know.

nickinicole

Far too mature for my nose. After testing a few scents I think JPG isn't for me

Zeddyteddy

I wore this when I was 16 in the 90s. It was probably a bit old for me but I didn’t care - I felt amazing. I love Le Belle so repurchased a bottle of Classique for nostalgia (and to try to harbour some feelings of being 16 again!!). The reformulated version of today is not the same… it’s ok but very soapy. There is something that my nose doesn’t like initially but then it turns creamy and lovely. I’m a little disappointed but am also going to make myself enjoy this.

Update - I reach for this more than I thought I would. I think it’s because it lasts so well and it develops into a lovely scent. I’ve also had compliments. If I put it on early enough in the morning by the time I get to the office it has settled down and isn’t so overpowering too. I enjoy it.

jadepo21

For me, this leans too powdery and mature. I found it heavy and a little suffocating. There is some lovely DNA in the dry down, but it was too much work to get there.

angelbeast

Has a beautiful floral opening, sweet and strong without being too sickly. It is certainly a mature scent, but feels elegant and glamorous, more like old Hollywood than old lady. Dries down into a soft powder - I don't get any vanilla at all. Powerful projection and longevity, I can smell it on myself for hours. This scent isn't for everyone, but it's clear why it's so iconic.

noneya88

From the perspective of someone who never tried this in the 90s, I don't feel like it's outdated or too mature smelling (though I wouldn't consider it youthful either). It is definitely NOT a gourmand (especially by today's standards) but it is a bit sweet. I get sweet, soapy, powdery floral. I think it would make a nice and effortless daily wear but it's nothing special.

Amethyst3

Nostalgic scent due to the heavy powdery fragrance . Very autumn winter and more mature than youthful .

UnearthlyApothecary

I have a vintage solid perfume bracelet of Classique. I don’t wear it very often because it’s such a small amount and I want to conserve it, but it is my favorite version. It wears closer to the skin, but it’s so much more potent. As much as I love Classique, there is an unpleasant alcoholic hairspray vibe when you spray the alcohol based perfume, the solid is all the spicy sweet powder undiluted and alcohol free. I wish solid versions of designer fragrances were more readily available. please JPG, bring the solid format back!

spitfyre27

Bought this more for the 90's nostalgia and the cute bottle than for enjoying the scent or missing the scent. In my fragrance journey, I first started collecting the so-called iconic scents which are must-haves such as Shalimar, Samsara, etc. including this one--- only to find they don't really agree with me. Anyway, now that I am stuck with this bottle of Classique, I can appreciate it for what it is, but personally, for me, it's a bit too in your face, if you know what I mean. It's too strong, an attention-grabber. There is a sweetness here that I don't particularly enjoy, a fruitiness that is too obvious and overpowering. It says in the notes there's vanilla here but I can't really smell it until the dry down which is hours later. It's not that this smells bad, but it's not for a person who is reserved and would prefer subtle scents. I only wear this when it's cold, because I can't take this in the summer. I imagine it would be too cloying. I have other bottles from this line that I like more, such as the sparkling La Belle Fleur Terrible, and the Classique X with its citrus note. (Actually I was buying the Classique at the time but the store sent the X variant to me by mistake. I decided to keep it because I liked it.)

Based on my experience, the sillage is strong, it lasts the whole day, and towards the end the vanilla is nice. Still, the strong opening to get to that okay-ish vanilla, is just not worth it for me. That said, I will still keep my bottle and wear it in the evenings. By the way, other reviews say this smells like Poeme, and that apparently, the perfumes share a perfumer. I have both and they're absolutely right. Poeme smells a lot like Classique although it is more yellow.

evavidal62

Definitely a must have or must experience even if you only test sample it. This is a classic and iconic women's fragrance. It's a powdery floral and soft amber musk fragrance. Not as fruity or 'gourmand' or vanilla as some say it is. The bottle is itself so iconic it ought to be in a museum. Classique is a beautiful perfume. Starts with a puff of powder. Pink powder. The rose and iris flower combo is soft and delicate. It has a talc powder effect but not old lady ish to my nose. Instead I get the impression this is a young woman who enjoys being retro fabulous and loves vintage powdery florals like Chanel 5 or Arpege. Thihnk of Dita von Teese. She'd totally wear this fragrance. The woman in this fragrance wears pink and baby blue silky smooth nighties. She likes to dress up for bed! Sexy lingerie. She seduces with her feminine allure. She sprays the fragrance not only on herself - neck, breasts, but on the pillows and sheets. It is a boudoir scent for sex! My boyfriend loves it on me and it is the only fragrance he can identify just by smell on me. He has a hard time with the others cuz I keep changing them up all the time. The florals in this scent are so lovely. Iris is the dominant note. There is a very soft white floral note (the tuberose) but it's not like other tuberoses that are bigger and creamier. Just a wisp of tuberose and mostly iris and rose. I don't get the top notes of citrus. I smell something warm and spicy which I'm guessing is the cinnamon notes. There is also ginger. There is a warmth to this fragrance that matches up with warm human female skin. It's smooth and easy to wear, easy on the nose. It's not strong at all. For anyone to smell it on you they have to be in bed next to you real close. The musk is there in the dry down as is the amber. But I don't get much vanilla. It's just a dash. The dry down is a warm soft musk. This smells much better on a clean freshly showered female body. The longer it wears on you, (and it is long lasting) the more you pick up on different notes that just pop up all of a sudden - plum, anise (spice) seem to emerge sometimes. There is a trace of soft ylang ylang. Something vaguely purple (orchid and plum maybe). This is just such a beauty. It's still selling after all these years (early 90? 1991? 1993)? the bottle with the cone shaped breasts and torso is supposed to have been inspired by Madonna in her Blonde Ambition Tour in the early 90s when she wore the cone shaped bra top. This is ultra feminine, classy, and seductive, sensual. If you like Vivienne Westwood's Boudoir this is in that same kind of style but more powdery and more feminine (Boudoir can lean unisex). Classique sells in any drugstore or JPG online store.

sublimesoul

There were two perfumes I would not even think about steping out the door without on a night out in the late 1980's early 1990's and one of them was Obession. I felt like a million dollars wearing it and extremely confident. Nobody else seemed to wear it so it gave me a bit of an edge about me. I still wear it as it really timeless.

Arina8Sierra

This perfume is definitely not for everyone! I find the top notes & middle notes very unpleasant, but then it fades into an okay scent. The ginger & star anise is way too strong on me. Definitely not for me & only recommend to people who love ginger! Haha

LSAUG

I was so looking forward to trying JPG Classique. I almost blind bought this perfume because of the perfumers reputation and because it came out in the late 20th century. A century that I miss dearly. The 20th century and the late 80s and 90s had some special creations in the world of perfumery. It was a great time period. Sadly JPG Classique just doesn't hold up to the more iconic perfumes of that time period. Classique for me smells like cheap dial soap or another brand of cheap deodorant soap found in any fleebag motel. It starts off that way and dries down that way. Cheap deodorant soap and that is all. Nothing sexy or alluring about this horrid perfume. The scent is as tacky and awful as the bottle. Thank God I was able to buy a sample very cheaply and I didn't make the mistake of blind buying this horrid perfume. It also reminds me of kim Kardashian gold perfume but that smells also smells like dial soap.

Edit: the far dry down smells like a spicy aftershave or male soap. I really am disappointed in this perfume. Especially since the perfumers is responsible for lancome poeme. I had tried 2 flakers from this line and hated them as well. I guess JPG isn't for me.

Perfect10Tara

This was so cool and worn by me in my youth. That bottle was a stand out design - very Madonna who was everywhere at the time. The scent was beautiful, pungent (in a good way), and very sexy and floral in a powdery almost musky way. Huge projection. I loved it.

lszwed

This powdery floral with a splash of citrus reminds me of the lady at church that would give you a butterscotch if you gave her a hug. While you were clutched in her arms, you'd be enveloped in a cloud of rose, iris, and tuberose. If you were lucky, she'd show you photos of her "It Girl" days, dancing in a chorus line by day and a burlesque club by night. She traded her Estee Lauder Youth Dew for this more womanly JPG the minute she smelled it and hasn't worn anything else since. Her granddaughters will keep this iconic bottle on their perfume shelf in her honor right beside the next generation's "It Girl" scent, La Belle.

barbieswanlake

This perfume is a classic for a reason! My father used to buy my mother a new JPG every year, I remember going in as a child and marvelling at all the little glass bodices. It felt like a rite of passage to own my first JPG and this is soundtracking my 20s so far. The top notes are great, I don’t always get the top notes well but I do here (briefly!). Tuberose is a scent I’ve always loved and it’s incorporated so nicely here, along with the ginger and iris- I tend to notice they blend in with the base notes quickly which to my nose makes it a very unique scent! I wear it out so often that cigarette smoke might as well be another note but it’s perfect regardless.

Linda_80

This used to be my signature fragrance, for YEARS..!
Absolutely LOVE it!
The longevity is INSANE,lasts and last and lasts..for 3 days..
I always need to have a bottle of this, even though i dont used it that much anymore.

WhiteFlowerPrincess

This is probably the best of the Jean Paul Gaultier fragrances that I have smelt so far, but I'm not absolutely in love with it to be honest. It is a bit too spicy and slighty too fruity for my tastes personally and I would have preferred this if there was no cinnamon, star anise, pear or ginger in it.

I love all of the other notes though and I think that the combination of orange blossom, Rose, mandarin orange, bergamot, ylang-ylang, orchid, iris, tuberose, plum, vanilla, amber, musk and sandalwood without the notes I don't like in this would have been sensational!

The sweet orange blossom, the buttery ylang-ylang, the sensual tuberose, the powdery musk, the sweet and almost gourmand vanilla and the resinous and deep amber are what I get most from this fragrance and this makes me think of an old Hollywood actress's boudoir and blush pink satin corsets, of course!

I think that this fragrance would be great for either fall or winter and could work for spring too, though it might be a bit overpowering in the summer because of its fairly strong sillage. Also it would suit glamorous night time affairs and would be great to wear at a party both because of its sexy notes and also the fact that it lasted almost 8 hours on my skin.

This fragrance was like a cross between Safanad by Parfums de Marly and The One for women by Dolce and Gabanna to me. So a luxurious smell at a price that is cheaper than what you'd expect!

Altogether, I'd give this fragrance a 7 and a half out of 10. It is almost full-bottle worthy for me but not quite.

Lilly44

Can someone help? Is this now named Classique edt?
Cant find anywhere that version i saw in store but bottle looks pretty much the same?

_NicoleNonya

Classique has a lot going on. I wouldn't say this is a good thing.
I love the bottle, some would find it incredibly cheesy. I adore CD's vintage Poison which has tuberose in the middle notes, I was hoping the tuberose wouldn't be prominent in this perfume, but.. it is.
The way modern day 80s/90s perfumes have been reformulated for today's market, where you can tell a scent is a shadow of it's former self, as if the scent is faded, like someone who fell down a well and is screaming "I'm still down here", I can see this with Classique.
I haven't smelled the vintage formula of Classique but I can tell, in 1993, this was a powerhouse. Classique was initially named JPGaultier Eau de Parfum but renamed Classique in 1995.
Classique starts off as a dusty soapy white floral, I pick up that pesky tuberose right away which stays lingering throughout the life of the wear. I know that dusty scent is from the iris. Ylang Ylang is known to have a bananaesque sweet smell, it's abundant in Classique. To my nose, it's the ylang ylang nectar giving the majority of the sweetness.
I get whiffs of plum, anise, periodically before it settles down with the amber and musk, I smell a very faint hint of vanilla.
To me, Classique is in the same realm 273 Rodeo Drive by Fred Hayman which is also a shadow of it's former self.
They both have tuberose, ylang ylang and plum. Classique isn't as screechy.
I'm disappointed this is just okay for me because it has a lot going for it, the tuberose is just off putting.
I didn't pick up a cinnamon accord which is disappointing.
The type of personality I see wearing Classique, bubbly, extroverted, fun, adventurous, and outgoing.
To me, this is a fall/winter scent. The first time I wore this, I put only 1 spray. I do believe for my personality, less is more. It was pleasant. Longevity was good on 1 spray.
The second time I wore this, I pulled the trigger to 8 sprays.
JPG delivers with projection, I left the room, returned, it was permeating throughout the room. It remained on my skin for well over 14 hours. It remained on my clothes 2 days before I washed them.
The positives?
I did not sneeze from this, great projection and longevity, priced more than fair on the grey market, cute bottle.
Cons: Not ground breaking, 80s/90s big hair vibe (but retains it's charm), loud, not office friendly at all.
If I liked tuberose, this would be a steal.

villiruusut

I had the good fortune of picking up the 2005 Le Duo coffret containing mini Classique and Le Male bottles. In its first hour after application, I smell the resemblance to Poeme - a massive vanillic floral bouquet featuring predominantly orange blossoms. As the top layers peel off, the powderiness of the perfume becomes more perceptible. The spiciness warms up the overall profile and this is where it begins diverging from Poeme. While Poeme smells like a cold vanilla floral, JPG Classique evolves into a spiced fruity-foral. It evokes imagery of being hugged by a stage performer dressed up to the nines in sequins, big hair, full make-up and tits out. She is out to impress and is definitely attention-catching. I don't have the diva attitude to carry this off but really love how cute the coffret looks so I'll be keeping the minis for olfactory reference!

lunar_eclipse

This smells like Paris. I like that it's classic

eaudemale

Classique always smelled very soapy in the opening, there was a little tiny bit of anise also and the drydown was a musky ambery vanilla that smells like after sex. Kind of a creme brûlée. If this doesn’t feel thick enough, get the edp.

200mlEDP

Oh gosh , what on earth happened to this absolutely gorgeous fragrance. After falling in love with Le Belle Le Parfum intense I decided to grab a bottle of classique for old time sake ! It smells nothing like how I remember , it’s so soapy , it’s smells like Blue grass , and did I mention soapy ! A little baby powder in the background to add insult to injury. Le Belle smells more Classique than classique smells classique . This was once such a glorious fragrance , heavenly blended and vanilla for days , this is making me sad , I hope it develops into something that resembles the original.

Kittykatkin

After much trial and error I've finally found the one. I just adore this. I keep trying to wear other things, but everything pales into insignificance when compared to this beauty. Predominantly a softly sweet orange blossom with some gentle spices and a beautifully cosy ambery vanilla dry down. This fits me, not that I'm sexy at all, but I just find it very comfortable to wear and simply put, it feels right. I also have the EDP in the red corset which I love too, but not nearly so much as this. This has amazing longevity and is far and away my most complimented perfume - even receiving praise ("oh, you smell lovely!”) at the end of a long working day. You really could take away all of my other perfumes and leave me with this one forever as it just makes me so happy!

HoneypotBr

This one for me is all love and sometimes, all hate. It's an instant nostalgic flashback to my youthful aunt's boudoir, the 90s, and that fancy, sexy, glamorous smell. Makes me feel pretty, has me putting makeup on, and reaching for the black dress. But other times, the same nostalgic bang of flowers and spices makes me feel heavy on the granny smell. I'm wearing it fabulously tonight, but just two nights ago one single spritz brought on the worst migraines. Go figure...

pinotos802

I mean at least the name is fitting. It smells weird, bitter or idk it smells like the fruits in it went bad.

Barbara476

This was my favorite scent 20 years ago. Sooo sexy….at that time.
Recently I tested it again. It’s a very strong scent, not bad but a little nineties-vibe. Hmm…it reminds me too much of my twenties. Not my thing anymore.

Norie

Whether sprayed on body or card, it smells like Dial soap with a powdery floral musk. So glad I got a tester because this one is not for me.

Received this today, making me the proud owner of all three main flankers of classique. They definitely all have the same DNA, but there are also certain things that set them apart. To me, every offering smells amazing, and this is no exception. This is so good and again, as with the other perfumes, I could see why some people would say that they are dated, but I think they still smell modern enough to where they don’t smell like old lady. This one is a little bit more fruity, and not quite as powdery as the EDP, but still has those powdery undertones to it. I smell a lot of plum in this, as well as the ginger, vanilla, ylang ylang and powdery undertone from the iris and rose. Gaultier is very quickly becoming one of my favorite fragrance houses. The whole classique line is exceptional and the one scandal I own was very impressive to me as well. I could see a teacher, or a daycare worker, or somebody who is just generally warm, feminine, and good with children wearing this. It isn’t seductive, it’s not femme fatale, but it’s extremely feminine. Really love this one.

Tony Shades

Lovely adorable fluffy powdery sunny white floral vanilla symphony with some sexy womanly soft spicy notes on top.
It's the only Classique I like. All the others are overly powdery to my nose, like I can almost taste it, which ruins it for me right from the opening.

devladelices

Almost like someone shoved you into a giant vat of orange blossoms - super fragrant but bitter, almost dry-smelling, despite how bloomingly WHITE FLORAL it screams. lightly powdery. It has that animalic, what I tend to call ‘public/airport restroom’ aroma, with a vaguely metallic sourness. Some might say “old lady” white floral but we do not do that anymore (ahem)! :) It is . . . sophisticated. It dries down into a fresher tuberose scent, on me.

sria

A true amber/vanilla floral synergy.. quivering heady intoxicating narcotic white flowers on a bed of sweet warm tantalizing fuzziness.. I am sorry i do not just find it sexy or seductive but this is downright erotic. And I can't seem to get enough of it!!
Suits fully grown elegant women who also have a wild passionate side between the sheets

HYLAS

Classique is a far heavier floral scent than Classique Eau de Parfum, released the year prior. Having loved the latter, I was eager to compare them side by side.

As its spicy opening wears of I was enveloped in thick, heady jasmine and lily of the valley (where are these notes? I swear I smell them!). Warm and sensual, it’s an intoxicating concoction and a beautiful white floral that doesn't (thank heavens!) turn sickly on my skin. While so many brands go all out with the intensity of their florals (think Chanel's Gabrielle or even Jean Paul Gaultier's Scandal EDP), Classique stays classy and doesn’t rely on cheap tricks.

It is far less sweet, soapy and rosy than the EDP, although they are both beautiful in their own right. In short, Classique gives us pure petal, thick and delicious. Think: a garden at dusk, mother of the bride, a bouquet of fresh lilies, sensual silk negligée. It is all of those things, and a thousand more. Elegant, timeless . . . get in my handbag!

What I smell in the newest formulation is soapy orange blossom, sweet powdery vanilla, and some ‘fleshy’ warmth from sandalwood, amber and musk. It smells clean but also very sensuous and very lady-like. Mature and Parisian in character…powdered face, well-dressed, heels. Manicured nude nails, freshly blow dried hair, a hint of cleavage, and seductive laughter escaping perfect red lips. She’s beautiful, charming, and perfectly put together, but she’s not overdressed or loud. I don’t get much of the spices nor fruits…except abit of cinnamon maybe (or is it star anise)? It’s simpler and more diluted compared to the rich, full-bodied deliciousness of the OG formulation. I still really like it, it’s a very pretty, very ‘put-together’ scent while oozing sensuality (there’s just something special about that soapy orange blossom flirting with that sweet powdery note of non-gourmand vanilla), still distinctive even if watered down, and now it’s just more wearable in warm weather. It performs beautifully on warmer nights and the vanillic drydown is deliciously enhanced. I don’t find it outdated at all, but, yes, it does smell mature, I imagine this on 35+ well dressed, attractive ladies, but anyone can wear it, so long as they love orange blossom and powdery scents. The opening is quite biting and harsh though, so you’ll have to wait 10-20mins for the scent to mellow and soften. Very good longevity + moderate projection even if you overspray…very far from the sillage bomb it used to be. Eleven years ago, I was gifted with a bottle (early 00s formulation) from an aunt, and even though I was addicted to the gorgeous drydown, I felt it was too mature for me and too dense for our Middle Eastern climate, I did end up using it up as a winter scent. Now that I’m well into my 30s I feel more comfortable wearing my new bottle, especially with the lighter reformulation. I find myself craving for this scent at least once a week, and I’ve even gotten a few compliments, it seems that men in their 30s and 40s are especially drawn to this scent, it smells familiar to some of them but they can’t place where they have smelled it before.

Andy224

Smells too sweet and mature. Not sure if it’s the star anise but it just smells strange to me. Not a safe blind buy

CollectorGabe

I’m selling a brand new bottle still in packaging PM me if you’re interested

Emma26

My mother used to wear this everyday throughout the late 90's and early 00's, back when I was still a child. This scent is so comforting to me and reminds me of a time when life was easier. Its powdery/soapy in the best way, combined with spices and orange blossom. It smells just so expensive and beautifully balanced. A true classic and (in my humble opinion) one of the most wonderful perfumes of all time. Be careful not to spray to much though since it's quite a powerful smell that can become overpowering rather quickly.

sprinklesontoast

Someone below commented about this being their first love, and I couldn’t agree more. This was one of the first perfumes I was ever introduced to as a child, and now at 30 I’ve purchased my first bottle just for myself.

It is such a glamorous and memorable fragrance.

The star anise, ginger, and orange blossom are initially quite strong, and admittedly not my favourite notes. However, it quickly evolves into a fragrance that is sensual, bold, confident, and warm.. It’s a bit soapy in a comforting way, and powdery in a way that is so soft and beautiful, and not at all cheap. I’ll wear this one forever!

When I smelled this, it immediately reminded me of another fragrance I'd smelled recently. It turned out to be Live Colorfully by Kate Spade. I looked it up and saw the single shared note is Star Anise. I didn't care for Live Colorfully because of a particular note but didn't know that it was Star Anise until I smelled this. Classique is smoother than Live Colorfully for sure, and dries down less pungent, but I now know that I don't care for that note in fragrances and it's too prominent in this for me to like it and therefore wouldn't buy this. Spicy...ginger, cinnamon, anise... just isn't my vibe in fragrances.

Maria19

This was my first love. My then colleague in Amsterdam smelled good and I asked what is this perfume? I bought it and thought this is really lovely. Now more than 20 years later, this is still a wonderful, harmonious, oriental scent. As many others have commented, this is a fragrance that lives up to its name. I bought a new bottle after a long time and it paid off. The sensuality and femininity of the fragrance is strong in this fragrance.

Tinabill

My! My! What a voluptuous beauty! (Goes for the bottle, the scent and the wearer 😉)
Classique is full bodied and full of character from the very beginning, hitting you with all sorts of accords at once. It’s is floral, spicy, fruity, clean and sweet all at the same time. It’s for the diva, the seductress hiding within you, though the scent still has some elegance to it compared to the scandalous bottle (but aren’t all JPG flacons so?!). It quietens a bit to a smooth powdery floral (the other nuances are still there) but it still creates a captivating aura around you.
This edt performs much better than many recent pure parfums, just amazing. A signature worthy piece of art. A true “Classique “.

zabekzuzia

I was surprised that I liked it at first as I usually hate the white flower scent, the first notes though smelled exactly like an apple free blossoming, unfortunately later it turns into the generic, headache inducing, owerpowering smell, can’t wait for it to disappear off of my clothes.

suile1

Whoever thought up the name for this one, Classique, must have been using a top of the range crystal ball of the time. Thirty years later, it's still a lovely fragrance - feminine, distinctive, complex and glamorous - it really is a classic, up there with Tresor, Chanel 19, or whatever your favourite fragrance from the past might be.

Creamy_ambrette

The opening of this is amazing!! Yes, it’s slightly soapy but mostly, sweet spiced orange blossom. I love the anis, ginger and cinnamon. Then I smell a sweet floral vanilla hours later.
I have a nearly full 3.4 oz bottle that’s vintage- 2003! It’s aged so well, it’s so well blended but also intense. I have it up for sale but I’m thinking of keeping it for myself :) it’s really beautiful

pipass36

Um perfume arrojado único que mais parece uma essência de tanta projecção e duração que tem.
Muito bom, e na minha pele os tons quentes sobressaiem.

Spicadk

Best fragrance ever.. on paper.. i wish it would smell the same on my skin or clothes. Smells like play dough on me

fantasticoo

I think it's the best women's perfume of all time. I think it doesn't get the attention it deserves. Anyone who doesn't try it loses a lot.

violetelle

I love this!! The opening is definitely really soapy and I can see how it could come across mature and almost dated. I personally love powdery scents. The magic really comes in the dry down, which is a gorgeous soft but strong, powdery, creamy, spicy and vanilla concoction with a touch of soapiness. It’s uber feminine, classy, mature and glamorous. It’s sexy, sophisticated and grown up. Nepria’s review below is spot on - this is a woman’s fragrance, not a girl’s. It has incredible projection and longevity. I absolutely adore this perfume, it captures everything I want in a scent and is an instant mood boost. The bottle is perfect, as is the name. I just can’t fault this perfume, I’m in love.

Vedinelle

This is hard to review, I used to wear it a lot, but never really liked it. It is however the perfume that has caused the single most compliments I've ever recieved. It's the only perfume that has made women come up to me in the club and ask if I've brought the bottle with me so they can try it out, the only scent that has made men ask me (in a not flirtatious way) what I'm wearing, so they can buy it for their wives girlfriends, because I just smell soooo good, and yet...I don't like it.

scent.2go

I believe that classique was nice in the past because notes looks so good but actual scent is soap, soap and...yeah, more soap. Just a soap, nothing else

mschnabel666

I like the idea of Classique more than the actual scent, lmao. I'm a 90s teen. I have an older bottle of the EDT (2018?) and I adore the older lacey EDP, and I even picked up limited EDT bottles for good prices- so I have PLENTY of the EDT that I don't exactly enjoy wearing.... but just now I bought a very reasonably priced original, pre-Classique bottle and I'm beyond excited. I miss the 90s!!! (When it was just JPG EDP)

meglucy

Always get so many compliments when I wear this one.

Sassafras23

The dry down on the wrist turned to something like Nag Champa. On the tissue, it remained pungent. It must be the star anise that’s the main culprit, but there’s something else as well. I suspect it’s orange blossom. I’ve checked the ones I detest (Red Door, Lou Lou, Altamir, Rumba), and they all seems to include orange blossom in a prominent role. If like me, you can’t stand the smell of those incense sticks and Lou Lou pungency, keep walking. Thanks god, I didn’t buy it blindly.

nepria

Classique is very precious perfume to me. I am totally crazy about this perfume in this gorgeous femme body.

I was traveling with my family to Grass and we went to this amazing museum of perfumery where they had a timeline of the most iconic perfumes created during a specific year and I saw that Classique was made in the year that I was born so I got very interested. My beautiful mother noticed that and got me a vintage miniature as a surprise so that I could try a perfume that was 'born' the same year that I was. It touched me so much somehow, it was very sweet of her to notice this because I haven't even mentioned it. I was still in my teenage years but I knew how valuable and costly sometimes vintage miniatures could be so I was on cloud nine. And I was very into fashion back then, all Vogue magazines wore just worn out from me reading them over and over again. And to get a vintage perfume from JEAN-PAUL GAULTIER.... It was a whole event to me. :D
When I tried this perfume it was something out of this world, so heavenly feminine so so so alluring.... just out of this world. I was speechless, the scent felt so luxurious...
The orange blossom and the jammy tuberose note just took me under the spell. The scent felt so opulent so rich and 'voluptuous' - if you could say this about perfume. I totally envisioned a female with a magnificent body like the bottle was wearing this perfume and seducing everyone on her way. I was mesmerized for sure.
A few days ago, all grown up now, I saw a vintage miniature for sale and I didn't even second guess it. And when I smelled it I just felt the same as in the past. This is a scent of a perfect woman. Of a woman who is on the highest vibrations of her feminine power in a game of seduction. Such an enticing perfume. Jammy white flowers with a hint of sweetness with a hint of fruits... This is just timeless. Time hasn't touched this perfume - it is still a seduction weapon as it was.
I will forever cherish this perfume, it's forever very dear to me. I am so happy that my birth year was marked by such a heavenly potion!!!

pinkkk

there is only one correct way to describe this perfume, it might be odd but hear me out guys...this fragrance reminds me of a milf in italy. yes, a milf in italy. shes in her early thirties, she has this big sun hat on with expensive black sunglasses and a long flowy dress. by her side there is her extremely hot husband, as well as one toddler, and one baby who she is pushing in her baby stroller. this has always been the first thing i think of when i smell this fragrance. super classy, put together but also very feminine and sexy. definitely for a woman who is a lady in the streets but a freak in the sheets.

Kon-nos91

Maybe my second review about it and the last for 2022. When was the last time I wrote one? Hmm...I needed a minute to read my 1st review about it. Ok, unfortunately I have to repeat some facts.

I am a kid of early 90's and that smell was so characteristic of the house of a friend of mine. Her mother was definitely wearing it proudly. Back then, it wasn't that pleasant if I have to be 100% honest. When I showed the sample to my mother, she immediately told me that this was the perfume of her friend 'X'. A light bulb turned on above my head and I was like, aha! That's why it's so familiar. Classique EDT enters the room before you do. I have a feeling Mr. Gaultier knows what will happen in the future. Please book me an appointment with him!

Nowadays, it almost smells the same. Is it reformulated? Yes, but not by having a new perfume in the same bottle (coughing, Dior) nor by selling with the same price a weak body mist. Jean Paul deserves a huge hug and a bless from all of his fans because it's extremely rare your favorite perfume to be always available and still good on the market. The only house that can do the same with success and respect is Chanel. Guess, what, I bought a bottle. My sample that is produced 2 years ago smells a bit more complex and rich. Even the juice is darker. My limited edition bottle smells like 90% the same, the opening is a bit more clear but after an hour, it becomes the Classique you all know and love. I have to check and maybe update later the end of it on my skin. Will it be that magical milky/fresh caress that no one can resist?

All in all, to me Classique isn't a classic, but something extremely classy if you wear it correctly. It strangely calms me down. If I had to describe it with a few words these would be: A sweet & classic orange blossom in the hug of refreshing spices like cinnamon/star anice, a high end powder that blends perfectly sandalwood. Gosh, it's so hard. It's so hard to analyze and review it because you can really smell all of the notes listed but keep the general idea. It can be everything. It could be a seductive classy woman, it could a famous actress/star with a flawless 'no make-up' make up, it could be a sweet mother/wife. This perfume although not my taste, is fantastic. JPG said it's the power of orange blossom, the freshness of ginger and the sweetness of rice powder. Soft flowers, precious and warm spices that we all love, fruity touches, milky desserts, empty opera rooms or theaters back stages, lights, home sweet home vibes, a perfect woman. I tried, I really tried to give you the idea. Classique is a fantasy and we all have it, some know how to use it. Let it travel you back to the years of authenticity.

p.s: If you reached till here and you're an expert, please PM me because I am very interested in testing/having Eau Fraiche or Pinup (both Airline editions). Are they far away from Classique EDT?

hnfred

My immediate impression is that the opening reminded me of a refreshing white floral bouquet type of scent. The difference with classique is that it’s softened by the vanilla that is present in every stage of this perfume, making it more suited to colder weather. Many of the notes were lost on me and so I do want to revisit it, but the ones that stand out the most are the white florals, the citruses, and the vanilla. I can’t pick up any of the musk or cinnamon in the dry down, and honestly I’m pretty happy about that because I’m not the biggest fan of musky scents. The sweetness is definitely there in the dry down, but by that point the projection has died down so it’s not suffocating.

I’m extremely surprised to see that this perfume was released almost 30 years ago, if someone had told me this was a 2022 release I wouldn’t bat an eye. Despite having the name ‘classique’ it feels very modern and feminine. My one complaint is that I wish the florals were present for longer. I’m definitely going to be revisiting this fragrance.

Edit: tried again and there’s an animalic nuance that I didn’t pick up last time

Rcates78

A lactonic, white floral and ginger bomb. I am NOT a fan of licorice, so the star anise in the opening, coupled with the ginger, is a bit much for me sometimes, but OH, the drydown! The white floral becomes ephemeral after a couple of hours, enveloped in cinnamon and vanilla. Once the star anise settles, the balsamic undertow it provides everything is heavenly. If you're a fan of the balsamic quality of Dune (a favorite of mine!), you may also like this. Sillage is commanding, longevity is next day. They just don't make 'em like this anymore. I don't have a single modern perfume, mainstream or niche, that lasts like any scent from the 90's. I use it sparingly (two sprays TOPS) and in the winter. It was an instant love for me.

Frenchghost

I'm glad I only got a sample, and I love the bottle design&it's what made me curious &the reviews of this,I will say this has very very good lasting power&longevity, just I can't stand this, something in this makes me gag&I can't hardly breathe even hrs&hrs later,go figure, can't explain it with words,so sorry to all fans,I'm just being honest. I also thought by notes listed this would be nice, however I have learned long ago not to go by notes&just try new things&this is harsh for me.

Davash

My thoughts are on edt version as that’s the version I prefer. As a nineties kid/teen Classique is my throwback to those years: supermodels, pride flags and latex trousers. But saying this does not mean it’s dated because it’s not. It’s beautiful.

At first I get orange blossom -dominated white flowers. They’re sweet and big and not going anywhere but during the day vanilla, peeking bergamot and even honey join in. Everytime I wear this I seem to find something new, but its’ essence never changes so I never get unpleasant surprises. Classique edt is soft, very floral, definitely feminine and sensual but not weak or skin scent.

Gyps

I like this fragrance but there’s a note in it I find difficult. I’m not sure what it is. It seems to be well blended but there’s one note that sticks itself out, possibly the star anise? However, I do like it though. Just not a love. It’s strong and long lasting, which I do like.

ganesha

i have the original version of this perfume! this is or was my mother's favorite, and it works so well on me too. everytime i wear this i get compliments.

TexasTuberose

This perfume is very aptly named. It took a minute or two to calm down on the sharp initial scent.

It is was very heavy on the tuberose, ginger and anise for me. It smells classy but also hip. It calls attention in a very self-assured manner. Big plus for me is I can handle the sweet notes which are soft like nectar rather than sickening like refined sugar.

This is what a responsible, confident woman wears. Classique indeed!

bruby15

Had this fragrance 25 years ago gifted by my mother's friend who did not like it for herself as she got it as a gift... I love heavy long lasting fragrances but this was very intoxicating... I loved and hated it... had a 100ml and used it. today I bought it again and was so disappointed... the new one is so light and feels like it does not last long... :(

AlyssaBrindley

I am glad I only purchased a sample. I am 27 and this perfume still smells a bit too mature for me. White floral heavy. It does smell like Gloria Vanderbilt which I like, but it’s a bit much for my liking. It’s not a bad smell by any means, but wearing this makes me feel as if I’m wearing someone else’s clothes that just aren’t my style.

pocketfullofposies

At first spray I can instantly smell the white florals and it’s quite heavy, but the scent lightens as the day progresses. Reminds me slightly of Vanderbilt by Gloria Vanderbilt but less spicy.
It’s a beautiful perfume, it’s iconic, it’s…classique

Forbiddenjade

I stopped in store today for a nostalgic wiff of what was once a one of a kind fragrance.
Nothing left of it! The concurrence of financial opportunism - IFRA, looking at you lot - has totally disfigured this beauty.

Today you get the equivalent of someone who underwent multiple, wrong plastic surgeries ending up botched. A grotesque rendition of what they were.

My heart sunk at the super synthetic mixture smelling of plastic-y tiare and what not. As if all was dunk into melted plastic and rendered liquid. Criminals only could do such thing to what was achingly unique and bold and beautiful!

This is the revived zombie of it! Whoever did this should be condemned to stink forever. I can only hate them for having destroyed one of my loves.

Pinkfloyde:)

This is purely a ginger, orange blossom, cinnamon and vanilla scent. Stunner.
This is definitely a pronounced, more mature perfume; but as always, wear what you please.
The silage is nothing short of fantastic. Might suffocate those who don’t like it, but is most definitely a positive if you want to assert the perfume your wearing across the entire room. It smells expensive and lasts ages.
Aside from this- I don’t particularly get any other floral notes. A sweet, dominating and assertive fragrance.
A safe blind buy? If you like spices, sweetness and a little zest from the orange blossom, it’s a gorgeous autumn-winter scent.

courtny78

This is a huge white flower bomb, just too strong for me.

The Nose Nose

I base my review on the EDT worn by my companion. She does not spray it all over the place and does not, God forbid, "refresh" during the day. This fragrance opens with a sweetness that I think anyone should avoid. But then it settles into an acceptable floral. I can live with that. Though classified as an Oriental floral, the Oriental notes are background. To me the fragrance is skinny, that is, lacking body. There is a place for this, particularly for the woman who prefers floral scents and is not wearing this for someone else. When you and I are in a candlelight dinner setting, try something with a little more interest.

buffybases

Well well well. My mother bought the EDP for me when I was a teenager which was my signature scent for YEARS. A vanilla, oriental, lactonic, amber slightly powdery heavenly scent everyone knew me buy. But I never knew if it was the EDP or EDT. It was the lace corset one so now i know it was the EDP but after feeling nostalgic and not wearing it for years I accidentally bought the EDT after being misinformed by the sales lady. The bottles have changed so I never knew I was getting the wrong one. Anyway..........This one's a powdery hot mess. I finished it quickly out of devotion lol but I cannot wait to have the EDP again. I was going through depression and forgot myself and buying perfumes was on the top of my list once i started feeling like me again. Even though it's not the EDP it has it's DNA and still made me smile.

ballerina77

This is honestly one of the few fragrances worth the money when it comes to durability.
I used to wear it during college and now I got back to it. It is the same thing. Good quality, same scent.
i have a bottle from 2009, and though the color of the liquid changed, the scent didn't. same quality. compared to a bottle I recently bought, no difference except for the color.

Starts with fresh orange blossom and ginger, very obvious to me. and then come hints of vanilla (the good, bakery one), lasting more than 10 hours on my skin. like it always has. I am glad it hasnt been reformulated.

by the end of the day I can still smell the vanilla note-prominently , very yummy and feminine. and a bit gingery-orangey, which I love.
i find it very classy. some find it too mature, I don't. although it is not a teen fragrance.

longevity 8-10hs
sillage - moderate. I find it good for work.

very good quality. honestly, it is one of the few I don't have to spray again through the day.
cuddos, JPG!

sitingqueen

This review is for the original EDP. There is an initial blast of treacly sweetness which is overwhelming. It dissipates after about 5 minutes, but it is a very sweet fragrance throughout the entire development. Probably because of the plum, pear and vanilla. This is very long lasting and sillage is moderate. Office friendly. I would wear this for casual use; going shopping, casual dining. There is nothing marvelous about this fragrance, so I am glad I bought a mini.

Michael Edwards describes this as a Classical Floral Oriental.

erika.isme.98

Too mature and powdery floral for my taste

COLOREDGIRLSHUFFLE

I bought this on clearance at Kohls years ago without smelling it first. Being that I love love love JPG's le Male, I figured I couldn't go wrong with this. At the time, I hated it. What the hell was wrong with me?! I tossed it in the recesses of my stuff and completely forgot about it. I happened to find it in one of my bags this year and decided to give it a try. OMG, it's great! I am guessing now that I am graduating to mature, sexier scents, this smell has grown on me. The orange blossom pear, on top of the ylang-ylang, plum ginger that perfectly dries down to this vanilla amber musk is absolutely gorgeous.

While it wouldn't be my everyday scent, I think it would be a great layering scent, especially for fall and winter. Arm length projection and lasting sillage. I think it lasts at least 4 hours on my skin.

Dollypop

Disappointed in the longevity, reviews said long lasting. I find it smells pretty, but very soft must get close to really notice. I was hoping for a long lasting stronger scent.

lanya

if you like orange blossom you'll like this because that's all i smell. i hate orange blossom but i still had hope for this since it usually doesn't take over a fragrance it's in. i guess what did i expect

LizDee007

This is a gorgeous, floral sweet feminine fragrance that makes me smile when I wear it. I find it non offensive, light and airy which reminds me of a young to mature woman who is fashion forward yet traditionally classy…pearls, lace and leather type of chic‼️I received the gift set with the lotion which is a bonus, but blind buy successful🥰oh it’s an anytime anywhere type fragrance

DaphneDearest

It just smells like old ladies and dial soap to me. I genuinely do not understand how anyone could even possibly describe this as sexy, but maybe I'm just nose blind to some aspect that would make some folks like it.

EDIT: I've been wearing this for a few days now, and I think I've found the issue with my initial wear.

When sprayed on my SKIN, I get the awful, screechy floral scent. But when it is on my clothes? Oh my god, it's beautiful when it's on my clothes. The flowers are subtle, the warm vanilla pops out, and it blends together in a way that is still decidedly different from the modern fruity gourmands, but not at all "old lady".

scorpionbitch

For some reason this scent scares me. It mimics the acidity of sweat underneath all the floral deliciousness. It’s like being confused by a crush. The fact it’s a little bit nasty is all it has going for it imo.

wondervalley666

Stunning. I absolutely adore this vintage scent. It maintains vintage vibes yet somehow manages to remain modern and sexy - a classic indeed!

I have the EDP and the EDT. The EDP opens in a vintage perfumy way. The anise gives it an incense/clove vintage vibe which is strongest in the opening and fades to barely there after an hour or two. For a moment, this almost makes me think of Estée Lauder’s Youth Dew, which wasn’t “for me” so initially I was a bit worried. But this rapidly begins to transition into such a sweet, addictive scent. With all the notes, it’s hard to pick out exactly what I smell. Slightly powdery vanilla, almost gourmand marshmallow like, some soft sweet florals, cinnamon and sweet musk. A touch of ginger and a gentle anise make this a spicy sweet addictive concoction. It only gets better in the dry down. And the dry down lasts forever! It’s a softer scent, so it isn’t suffocating if you overspray, but this scent will stick with you all night and only smell better in the morning. For the first couple hours after I applied this fragrance, I thought it was nice but didn’t need a FB backup bottle. The next morning I woke up and immediately reordered a backup. While I love the EDP, I initially wasn't super impressed with the EDT. It does indeed have much more of the spicy & bitter notes with much less sweetness. But then I wore Scandal for a day and oversprayed it to the point when I needed something less sweet the next day to reset my senses. I applied the Classique EDT and it blended so beautifully with the overly sweet residue from last nights scent! It took the cloying sweetness down and made me feel fresh and spicy with just the right amount of sweetness. I still prefer the EDP but wow, having a bottle of the EDT on hand seems like a life saver for those times when I'm "overly sweet" and need to freshen up or take the edge off.

I also bought a bottle of Classique Pin-Up. While it doesn't seem to have much in common with the original EDP & EDT, I LOVE it as well! It reminds me a lot of Oriana by Parfums de Marly, with just the right amount of sweet fruity marshmallow. Its what I hoped D&Gs Pour Femme would be. I also had to order a backup of that bottle, as it became my date night scent.

I cannot believe how wonderful JPG scents are-they never seemed to be available around me to sample and I’m late to the game, but after trying hundreds of fragrances over the past few years, the JPGs have all instantly become some of my top 10 favorites of all time, Classique included.

i just found this at the canadian drugstore shoppers on the 19.99 rack and because i knew JPG and loved every other scent i tried from them i knew i needed to get it. they had two of this EDT and one EDP version 50ml for $20 each so i got all three and I LOVE THEM. oh my god this EDT version is just the perfect perfume scent of that even makes sense? like it’s not one certain thing to me and i totally see how people describe it as a sexy boudoir scent because it’s like a vintage powder puff with vanilla added. i really think this could be worn whenever and also layered with some other straight one note things to bring out some of the notes which i totally plan to try! so happy i found and tried this one

edit: also forgot to add how is this an EDT?? it lasts longer and projects better then many of my other EDP scents from other brands but tbh all my JPG ones do

Laurus

My husband thinks this smells great. He likes sweet scents. He bought it to his mother becuase he smelled it on ex girlfriend and other girls and wants to be surrounded by his favourite smell. So I went on and tried it. But sadly I think it is too sour for me. I just can not wear it everyday I do not enjoy it. I thought I was smelling incence when the SA was making my sample. But I can not detect that on my skin anymore. And when he came home from work I let him smell my arm without first telling him it was his favourite. I thought he would recognize it. But no...he says: Its too sweet. Weird. I smell sour, not sweet but for him it is sweet. I think he experienced this perfume back in the 90s when it was hot and he was young and everyone wore it and his mind stayed true to this. I get it, I have the same thing with Mugler Angel...I hate it, never wore it, but it brings me back to simple time when everyone smelled like it.

Gemsense

Divine! This is a divine, heavenly little potion! Love Love Love 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖 no words at the moment, I'm lost in the scent 🥰

CaliBlonde

I feel like my experience is different from 99% of the reviews.
I’m not getting any mature/vintage/boudoir/coca-cola/sexy vibes from this.

I like how Sarah Kind’s review describes it: Banana Boat sunscreen and Juicy Fruity gum. Spot on, I feel like I smell a bit of Bullfrog sunscreen in here too.

This smells like the lobby of an old Hawaiian hotel: people slathered in sunscreen walking around, spray-on sunscreen being sprayed, a vague sweetness from cocktails being mixed, and a bit of mustiness coming from the building since it’s near the ocean.
Not a tropical scent; it’s a “tourist destination” scent. I literally feel like I’m at The Royal Hawaiian.🌴🌺
I absolutely love it.

Warning: this is orange in color so don’t spray on white clothes. I have a big spot on my white shirt now.

Goofy79

One of the top classic perfumes out there that still smell as good and lasts as long as it did when it came out in 93. Nothing has changed and thanks God for that 👍

Nil3

No.

I have worked with this perfume, and THIS …. Is …. Not …..it!
( at an airport Duty free as im writing this )
It’s like ALL perfumes have been watered down to a soapy version of themselves .

What a sad sad shame and reality . :(

JPG classique was a sweet star anise STAR!

Now it’s a soapy mess that gets zero attention , and this is coming from a woman who LOVES soapy fragrances.

Buh.

P.s. reminds of a very very soapy poeme , Lancôme

lulu1979

I love love love Classique, its divine to wear and pure sexual allure to smell on anyone else. I used to wear this in the 90s and it got as many compliments then as it does now since i started wearing it in rotation again. Men that like it usually go a bit weak at the knees for it. It's a rich dreamy purr of lip licking sweet amber, ylang-ylang and ginger spices, lifted with soft white florals.
It's youthful, fun and flirty but not shy at all.
I always come back to this scent and the smell lingers on clothes for months.
Definitely for night time and fall/winter, but i still wear it all year round when i'm in the mood to smell delicious. There's nothing that can compare to this scent, it's fabulous.

RegalKitten

It's an old-fashioned, soapy projection beast. The dry-down was better than the opening at least. The vanilla is the only thing that made it somewhat tolerable for me while I waited for it to fade from my arm after trying to wash it off.

EDIT: My boyfriend actually stepped away from me when I went to join him in the men's perfumes section after I had tested this on my skin and I didn't even get very close. Literally the only thing that has ever pushed him away from me is a perfume he finds repulsive. Just thought I'd mention that in case anyone is wondering about the man magnet powers of this fragrance... He also hated the dry down, not just the super projecting, sharp opening. It just didn't get better at any point.

ugly_sara_turns_it_hard

lol basicque
it’s the generic kinda scent that would be named “sexy & seductive”. Very nice “sexy” ylang-ylang note, some nice spicyness too (ginger probably). It’s whatever imo, it just smells like, idk, basic “sexy” perfume

Yessamin

This classic bottle paying homage to the female figure is sophisticated and seductive.
Edt

gnathaliegh

This is probably the most "mature" fragrance that I own. I would never wear this out because frankly, I don't think I could pull it off. It's super rich, sexy and seductive and you definitely have to be very confident to wear it. But the scent itself is absolutely wonderful. It opens up quite vintage smelling, you get a burst of orange blossom mixed with the anise and some citrus. As it dries down, the vanilla comes forward and mixes with the florals in the middle and the spice from the ginger. It does project very well and is very longlasting and enveloping. This is one of my go to bedtime fragrances. It feels very personal and private to me since this will be the only time I ever wear it. Such a lovely cosy and warming fragrance. Definitely one of my all time favourites.

likesleet

too powdery and smells like an old spice cabinet. only feminine in a zara blazer millennial & baby boomer bored working housewife way.

Kalimi

I loooove this perfume...has a lovely sillage and smells wonderful...the lotion is also great for layering

Unruly Julie

I'm sorry y'all, but I just can't get into the creepy torso bottles.

TheSweaterGirl

Yikes. Sharp, screechy, cloying white floral nightmare. How anyone finds this to be a sexy or appealing scent, I’ll never know. This is 100% the type of fragrance that I cannot understand the appeal of.

While there is a clean and fresh undercurrent to this, I find it predominantly sickly sweet. Not sweet like La Belle is sweet. This is the cloying sweetness of synthetic white florals. Overspraying will absolutely lead to headaches and nausea.

I wish any of the base notes were more prominent to tame this. Sadly it is just sharp sharp sharp.

Hard pass.

Dana79

In my 20s I loved this one. I wore it even to the office, I wore it even in summer :), which honestly is a no go, because this is a sillage bomb! It's attractive, sexy, loud, rich and sweet. It requires an outfit that goes with it - high heels, mini skirt/pencil skirt, leather trousers, makeup, styled hair...you get the picture.
Nowadays I'm much more into casual chic, so this is not me anymore. Too cloying for me now.

Enrium

Having smelled Classique again, I would safely bet that it owes its success to its bottle design. Gaultier perfumes tend to have this in common - artful, instantly recognisable bottles with different syrupy concoctions housed within. Classique is very familiar - I've unknowingly smelled this a lot - and no wonder. It is the type of sweet floral fruity that sells by the bucketload. I usually quite like Jacques Cavallier's work, but this is an exception.

Classique opens with syrupy fruity notes - pear and plum with a very sweet orange accord, thanks to the mandarin and orange blossom. Anise adds some sweet spice, while waxy white florals emerge; sweet, cloying and synthetic. The sweet orange remains until the bitter (more sickly sweet) end. It dries down to an overdose of vanilla, with musky notes emerging as it fades. Bombastically sweet yet somehow thin, it is linear and ultimately unpleasant. Unfortunately for me, the performance is excellent, even for an EDT - it has strong sillage and is long-lasting on the skin.

I'm not a fan of sweet scents at the best of times, but this one is particularly bad. Sickly sweet, cloying syrupy nonsense. 1/5.

Queen Pisuna

I like the old-fashioned hand-soapy opening (must be the orange blossom) but it develops to a different sweet and spicy scent in the dry down which I totally dislike.

MilesPrower

I'm a bit unsure how I feel about this one. It's quite old fashioned when you first spray it but once it dries down its very soapy and a bit spicy on me. I get no sweetness at all which I was quite surprised at as other reviews mentioned that there is a lot. Its not a particularly horrible smell but I personally find that it's quite mature for me (I'm 22) and what I'm used to wearing.

faevert42

This is a very big luscious white floral scent, heavy with orange blossom in the opening. If you like tuberose with a touch of ylang-ylang, look no further. There is something big and loud about it, it is still a very 90s scent, but it has stood the test of time. Not work safe, very sexy.

sophiekoss

if this was half as sweet i would probably love it but as it is, it leans too cloying unfortunately. i can't even imagine how strong the edp is! it doesn't have any almond in it but it gives me the same play-doh problem that i get out of many almond scents like hypnotic poison. it's a shame because the first few whiffs are FANTASTIC between the pear, anise and tiny hint of citrus, but it gets obliterated by sickly sweet vanilla a few moments later.

Pearl Sound

I still LIKE it, but it was even more delicious back in the 90's. I used to LOVE it. It changed a bit.

Cataddicted

I had this scent previously, and I don’t remember wearing it much when I had it, but ironically, within a few months of giving it away, of course, I started really missing it. I have the edt version, but Im amazed at the strength of this edt. I had literally convinced myself I had the edp, because of its strength of this bottle! It took me several times reading the toilette sticker to believe this was an edt! This is how I think an edt should smell! This and light blue by dolce and gabbana are the strongest edts I’ve ever come across, but they have far better longevity and sillage than any other edt I’ve come across. It has so many amazing different notes… wood, white flowers, citrus, vanilla, ect (the notes are all very well blended together) although the orange blossom/citrus and ginger seem to stick out most for me out of all the different notes. I adore the womanly bottle, in my mind I like to think it is encouraging a woman to see herself as beautiful. I like than the mens scent is a mans body too. Beauty in nature ❤️

Nonblonde

annasarahr121

JPG Classique: beautiful orange blossoms + ginger/anise warm spiciness. It reminds me a lot of Reem Acra, an orange blossom/ginger perfume that I have and love. Actually, I'm not impressed with Classique's projection or longevity; for the price, I'd expect better. I'd just as soon reach for the much less expensive Reem Acra when I want my orange blossom/ginger fix.

AleshaA

This is for the vintage classic that I remember when I was a teenager and my friends sister had a bottle and we used to get a spray for sniffing and it was great gorgeous scent smelled like something I never smelled before took my breath away, me and my bestie used to do rounds to the department stores just to smell this beauty
Oh those good old days. What happened now, everything in jpg line smell synthetic and fake :((

beautynerd

I’ve been wearing this fragrance since 1999. I’ve owned both EDP and EDT. I found that after owning both that I preferred the EDT. The projection of the EDP on me was enormous…I preferred the softer and cozier finish of the EDT.
I agree with most that this fragrance has a glamorous quality that feels almost retro because of the major powder meets spicy notes that are typical of oriental fragrances. But the star of the show of this fragrance to me has always been the ginger note. I’ve had people stop me and compliment me when I’m wearing this fragrance telling me I smell like a divine version of Coca Cola 🤣 I think the ginger is to blame for that but I’m totally here for a gourmand category type of compliment! If you’re the type of gal who’s skin eats up perfume I can guarantee that this one should be longer lasting on you! I wouldn’t purchase if you hate to wear florals- because as much as this is layered with spicy and citrus notes it is indeed an explosion of white florals that warm up and become sexy with the woodsy and cozy base notes.

Púca

Oh my god, this is just divine. It smells like an orange flower water turkish delight that is lightly dusted in powdered sugar. I can't believe this has flown under my radar for so long. It feels like something Dita Von Teese would be putting on in her boudoir before a show. It's powdery, warm, and beautiful. Feminine without being delicate and passé. Smells like an oriental but still clean and not dirty somehow. My boyfriend also LOVES this on me and said that it makes my neck smell amazing. This perfume is for the ultimate bombshell of a woman. I definitely want to own the deodorant, body lotion, and body wash now.

Szilvita

This is a spicy, and pretty strong perfume. Should not be oversprayed.

I think it has some granmaish classic vibe to it especially at the beginning (I blame the star anise, but it's just a guess), but once it settles down it's less in your face and turns more towards a vanilla powdery scent.

I can't help thinking of this perfume as a christmas perfume, due to the spices. I enjoy it now in the cold December, but don't think I would enjoy it when it's warm and sunny.

Edit: Christmas time, so I've been wearing this perfume. My friend got into the car and immediately said; what is this smell?? Ah I know, wunderbaum!( Yellow Vanilla I suppose) 😂 Well no... Jean paul classique...

thewoodlands

This perfume is legendary!!!!!! My mom used this perfume and I loved smelling her. It smells so beautiful, soft, and feminine while maintaining the energy of freedom.

Dottie's Hoomum

Used to leave everyone I passed in a gorgeous cloud of this everywhere I went in the nineties. It was just so beautiful and soft, vanilla and spices. Now? Sharp. Screechy. Makes me cough. I wish they’d leave perfumes as they are and create new ones rather than change people’s favourites.

ausrine.kuzaite

I like classic smells, I like white florals, but this one is just not for me. Sprayed a tester on my hand and now I can not rid of it so I will give 2 for the smell and 10 for longitevity.

Seldarius

The opening is a very loud and sharp, spicy floral. After it settles it becomes warm, sweet and soft without being gourmand. I don’t get any fruit.

theoneandonlykatyc

The opening is old fashioned but once it dries down and settles into my skin it smells amazing, its pretty loud too

Marylinda67

Amazing vintage scent to be used in fall and winter having super lasting power is what the CLassique is all about. I was surprised with the smell, as reading the ingredients I didn’t expect this smell. Also, it’s quite difficult to describe the smell as such but it is something that has grown on me. I guess this is a great fragrance for an arty woman, or a mysterious one, or a date or even the one clubbing maybe. As it settles, a couple of seconds later, the smell becomes more glamorous and sweet along with being warm, musky and powdery. I would call this a mature fragrance for women with top notes star anise, rose, orange blossom, pear, mandarin orange and bergamot. One more specific thing I liked about it is the retro vibe of it which does not have any dusty and bitter notes; rather it is spiked with fruity notes.

CCClydes

My most favorite blind but yet! This is everything I love in a fragrance! I get all the beautiful Cinnamon, Amber, Ylang and although a true 90’s (loud and proud) scent it is elegant and classy. I get Fracas type vibes with Classique and I’m a huge fan. She lasted on me (wrist test only) for about half the day.

Stoicchild

This was my everyday work perfume. One of my male friend one day asked me which perfume I'm using. He wanted to buy it for one of his other female friends for her wedding. So I helped him purchase this. It makes a beautiful scent for newly wedded brides. It's a strong powdery vanity Hollywood scent. It's very versatile too! You can wear it to work or a wedding as it's very classy. A very feminine powder room like scent.

indiglo

I really like this, aromatic and warm, delicious. Very good lasting power too, getting echoes the next day!
I have the EDT.

Updated to Love :)

When I was a child I used to smell my Aunties old bottle of the Jean Paul Gautier. Often I had so many fantasies about growing up and one day buying a bottle of my own. I eventually did. This fragrance is trapped in 1993. Its too powdery. I do not recommend this for young people or someone looking to invest in one perfume. It will always have a place in my heart. Definitely for someone looking to time travel back to the 90s. It’s nostalgic.

Monke go brr

May I say that this is similar to "La Belle" from 2019 but with very clear neroli opening.

The opening is very reminiscent of Tom ford Neroli Portofino. or Original 4711 Colone. Then it goes into the La Belle direction.

Some people say that this smells like something Vintage and I agree - that neroli + cotton candy floral combination smells quite vintage, but as a guy I don't mind this at all :) However I would say you need to look really good and young to pull this off as something sexy... In that case you would just get extra points for being different and interesting. Otherwise I think it could give off that vintage/old lady vibes (likeable old lady), but it's likeable scent nevertheless. If you are testing it in the store, I would recommend waiting for the drydown because opening smells really modern/normal. It's the drydown that might smell "vintage" to some noses.

7.5/10

brionica1013

This one is SEXY. Satin, black lace, peep-toe pumps, stockings with the seam up the back sexy. She's not the girl next door, she's glamorous in a sultry nude evening gown over fancy black lingerie. She's not young and bubbly, she's mature and demure, she flirts without words, she's got some experience and knows how to use it. She's clever and sophisticated and she will age like a fine wine.

hola gigi

The powdery opening only lasts a few minutes. Afterwards, it's soapy & spicy! The spiciness has licorice/cinnamon vibes which are even more present in the dry down. It first struck me as a mature "auntie" scent. Something for early 40's and up.. but once the soapy notes are gone (after about an hour), there's something comforting about it. If the pear note was a bit stronger, I'd be all in.

MaryamOHS

I just received a sample of it, this is for sure a mature scent, it's soapy and heavy, smells like a creamy citrus tuberose soap, I think someone who enjoys white florals would love this, it's clean, I just hate white florals, I find them cloying.

Murmur123123

Very sexy and mature perfume, you can definitely tell that it is not one of those super young and modern perfumes, but it is not dated and I could still picture myself wearing this for years to come. The white florals are very prominent, with some nice sweetness (not candy sweet), mixed with spices.

At first I voted DOWN on the "remind me of" for Poeme, as I do not detect the similarity between the two at all (Poeme has prominent yellow floral notes), but 5 hours later I came back and changed my vote to UP for "reminds me of" for Poeme :D At the dry down the stage the two do smell quite similar, and I guess the fact that they share some similar base notes (Poeme also has orange flowers in the base notes) and were created by the same perfumer explains why!

lady_ireth264

My opinion: sexiest perfume ever created.
It's an aphrodisiac.
I remember when I first sprayed it on the back of my hand, my eyes rolled back, my nose in orgasm.
It's superbly beautiful and feminine.
The notes are blended so well together I couldn't pick out one from another clearly. But for me, I think, in the opening I can smell the orange blossom ylang anise ginger rounded up awesomely in the sweetness of amber vanilla plum pear. Cinnamon came later for me, which then create the powdery quality of the perfume. This perfume just blossoms in the heat of the tropic.
It's fresh, it's sweet and alluring.
It gives you the image of someone just coming out of shower, wet, smells clean and heavenly, and so sexy.
It is eau de toilette so it's meant to be worn after shower. How fitting.
I wear this daily for sometime even to the office.
And when I want to be a temptress.

Unfortunately, perfume is also drenched deep in memories. Because I couldn't move on from my past relationship and the association of how I felt when I wore this to seduce that person that I loved, I haven't touched this beauty for the past 5 years.
But now I'm planning to take back my enjoyment of this perfume. I'll make it mine again.
And of course, I'm hunting other versions of classique to experience.

Hanko

Smells like a baby changing room to me. Very old fashioned, new plastic smell that at first smells like straight up air freshener. Can see why some people would like it as it smells clean but just a bit too artificial for me!

Amir bahar

I got this recently and to my nose this smells vintage. I didn’t like the opening, it smells harsh and strong like a bug spray. But when it calms down on my skin, it smells beautiful. Almost feels like I’m in a vintage theatre where you could smell the makeup powder, some rosy lipstick and some flowers cosmetics, the woods from the chair etc. Feels like I was transported back to the 90s era. It’s classic. I like it.

Izzy78

Werther originals toffee.
It is a yummy retro oh so beautiful scent. It gave me an urge to go and buy the toffees.
So versatile, but words are pointless, It is a classic for a reason and I would not want to take away the olfactory pleasure away from the people by describing the notes for this one. As a fragrance lover one has to just experience it, even once in a lifetime.
I finally got my first and big bottle, having remembered how alluring it smelt on someone I knew. Had to do it justice. Very happy.

ScentedTiger

After reading the reviews, I was half expecting a “’90s” room-filling, nose-scalding floral/citrus/ginger sillage monster. But Jean Paul Gaultier Classique (EDT) is a thoroughly polite, almost apologetic visitor on my arm.

It begins with crisp white florals and a touch of citrus. There is only the tiniest whiff of ginger in the background. It’s very pleasant. I’m not getting any fruit or vanilla. Just an inoffensive, minutely sweet floral. The minutes tick by, and this fragrance continues to be simply “nice.” A yellow floral note becomes more prominent at the very end, before it settles into a skin scent. On me, the entire life cycle of this fragrance lasted all of 30 minutes, when it became barely detectable.

I probably should have ordered a decant of the eau de parfum form of Classique. I enjoyed what little I did get out of the EDT. I quite liked a previously ordered decant of JPG's Classique Essence de Parfum. It was a bit too intense, perhaps, for every day, but was a really lovely citrus ginger composition. If it is in between the elusive EDT form and the Essence de Parfum, the EDP Classique may turn out to be “just right.”

If you are looking for a soft, subtle, slightly sweet pleasant white floral to wear to the office or while running errands, give JPG Classique EDT a try.

Edit: I owe Classique EDT an apology. Many hours after I sprayed it- at least 7- I kept catching whiffs of a lovely, soft, sweet something. To my surprise it was Classique, which had bloomed quietly into gorgeous warm sweetness on my arm when I was not paying attention. The dry down is lovely- the vanilla has arrived, as has a bit more of the ginger- and is worth the wait. I'm definitely ordering a decant of the EDP.

Mangaetteok

My gosh - you know how dreadful the reforms are, when somebody here describes JPG Classique (edt - which my 2008 bottle is, & is so beast mode it's untrue,) as 'office friendly.' Puig have completed watered it down to the nth degree apparently. (I know ppl did, sparingly, wear this to work, but.. it's far too sexy, far too Boudoir really - & ofc, it was meant to be 'Boudoir- it deserved that title far more than the Vivienne Westwood perfume that took that name..) It was, surprisingly suitable for most occasions though, but more nighttime, I always thought - nights out/date nights - & ofc, men do like this - even now, I never here a bad word said about this - that vanillic base is something not so obvious, & has a beautiful, smooth quality, that ppl, espc men, love - & it always was high quality, classy, even if the perfume was not particularly subtle, in that brilliant JPG way. He doesn't really do subtle; look elsewhere if that's what you want, (& I almost always hv preferred subtle,) but this was just so good.

I bought 1 large btl myself in 2008, & tore through it - even though you only needed a v little, each time - after never wearing it bc when I was a child, everybody (everybody!) had at least worn it for a while, & it stayed that way for years - & then received another at Christmas that year - & that's where it went wrong..) Used with a light hand, that 2nd 2008 btl is still beautiful - but I rarely wear it now; it's just no longer my choice, bc I made the mistake of wearing it all day, everyday for months - even to where my mum, (!) automatically bought me a btl that Christmas - & ofc, I wore it until I was completely fed up of it. I try it occasionally now, but it just doesn't seem me anymore, I really did wear it to death, for some reason - perhapsbc I waited quite a while until I beganwearing it, & was completely enamoured by it, back then. It is a great all-rounder though; I don't think it's anything like it's floral Oscar De La Renta counterparts, which are very '80's' - JPG Classique is very 90s, resolutely so - although ofc it WAS done in retro, pinup girl style.. ironic pinup girl style or not.. ofc ,nobody born before 1989 would ever say it was the same as those other pfmes - those 80's floral pfmes were a certain style, & the Oscar de La Renta mentioned, is such. (Love Oscar's early 00's 'Intrusion' though - in a class of it's own, that edp.)

Don't need to mention the notes of the 2008 formulation, ppl here hv said it all - soapy rose with a little ginger - star anise quite prominent, vanillic but not candy sweet, & definitely nothing gourmand - a complete masterpiece ofc - it couldn't hv lasted this long otherwise - & so many ppl love it, swear by it - & always come back to it. (80's pfmes like Poison are so unwearable to most ppl under 40, including me) - but many, many ppl love JPG Classique, nb, I still love it too, even if I don't wear it much.

After the recent La Belle..ouf. JPG is now in the same wheelhouse as Paco Rabanne, due to ownership by Puig - & that's a real shame I think - PR I would never bother with, but JPG was always so good - although the recent La Belle - a nice idea, was ruined with the cheap vanilla base they buy by the hundreds of gallons - a pseudo celebrity-scent base that has no business in designer perfumes really.

Office-safe though.. In my best Chandler Bing voice - Oh. My. Gosh.. What hv they done to this with the reforms you hv to wonder - & I think I prefer to just use my old btl occasionally, & not find out - am told the 'Essence' is more like the old edt, except more gourmande.. Not sure how the soapy quality works with that though. A classic this - when I was a child, it was just JPG edt - they added the title 'Classique' later - & it actually v much is so. The edp was a different rose note - never liked it, like Chanel Cristalle, it shone in edt form & couldn't be bettered - now that, is vintage; it already was, when I first wore it as a child - but this doesn't actually smell particularly dated, I don't think - it's vanillic base is just so good - & it's such a clever group of notes - always smelled simpler than it actually was, I think that must be why. It was a stunner though, & hope it still is, in one of it's forms. That soapy rose, the vanillic base + an almost cosmetic powder like accord - it is the epitome of a girly scent, (it's not candy girly, obviously,) but it's certainly girly-feminine - & as pink as can be. (Tbh, if you start out with Ariana Grande SLC, maybe you won't think.. Ah, no - it's girly, full stop - seriously (!) This was, I think at the same time as Vivienne Westwood Boudoir - & this was the better version of girly glam, soapy rose + vanille, makeup powder + more.. It was made to be girly, & doesn't usually disappoint (I believe.)

Everybody has different tastes of course - but this is a modern classic, bc it's a classic. It's a little retro - in a good way - but Oscar De La Renta epinonymous is 'vintage' smelling - this is retro; & ofc, it WAS actually meant to be 'retro' - when it was made - it was meant to be girly- retro, pinup style - & the bottle just under lines that.. JPG loved (& still loves,) that retro, pinup girl style, which he described as 1950's.. - & that particular style became much more fashionable around 2008/10 - his interest in that kind of thing was way ahead of it's time, & was v original. It 'smells like many things, bc as with many classics - it was copied for said hair products.. & ..hm.. It is a modern classic though - even if it is - & always was, retro-style. Somebody wrote how amazing & brilliant it used to be, (many ppl here - those who knew it's pre IFRA, pre 2012 formulations,) & some wrote 'Classique Magnifique' - they weren't wrong

fgamz

I blind bought this hoping it would be my signature since all the reviews were all so positive.

For all the reviewers saying this smells like the 90s. I agree. This has the same vibe as Oscar (Oscar de la renta) without it being too mature. I do think it has a very classic smell to it. It's clean, light white floral with a pleasant vanilla base. I wish the star anise would stand out more which is why I initially bought it but sadly didn't wow me as much as I would have liked.

To me this smells office friendly, not sexy in the least. This to me fell a bit flat but got it for $50 at chemist warehouse so not terribly unhappy with my purchase. It's still feminine though, not girly. It's definitely not sweet sweet. It also has a powdery element to it, it's not too powdery though, just enough to keep it level without it being too granny. The sillage is okay, my skin EATS perfume and this one has been pretty good with a few sprays. I did have to top it off around 1pm after spraying around 10ish. I am always wanting compliments and never get them, this perfume though .. still nothing lol

Another note to add that is important to my preferences: This doesn't fall into toilet spray category, however it smells a bit 'basic' to me

EDIT
I finally found the smell it resembles and to me it smells like the kerastase hair products. So it smells pretty, and high end. Pretty but I won't repurchase

Almost smells like powdery sweet coca cola candy gummy bottles. Sometimes I love its sensual femininity, other times it feels dated and cloying.

Amazing vintage scent to be used in fall and winter having super lasting power is what the
CLassique is all about. I was surprised with the smell, as reading the ingredients I didn’t expect
this smell. Also, it’s quite difficult to describe the smell as such but it is something that has
grown on me. I guess this is a great fragrance for an arty woman, or a mysterious one, or a date
or even the one clubbing maybe. As it settles, a couple of seconds later, the smell becomes more
glamorous and sweet along with being warm, musky and powdery. I would call this a mature
fragrance for women with top notes star anise, rose, orange blossom, pear, mandarin orange and
bergamot. One more specific thing I liked about it is the retro vibe of it which does not have any
dusty and bitter notes; rather it is spiked with fruity notes.

This perfume has a ton of personality, and you need a lot of personality to pull this off. It's definitely not for me. Very strong especially for an EDT. Sweet, spicy, floral, sexy, dirty. As soon as I smelled this I completely understood what people mean when they say it "smells like the 90s". I can't explain why, but it does.

This does have a tendency to take on a bug-spray or cleaning-product type of smell, IMO. I think the combo of star anise and citruses are mostly to blame. This smells god-awful on paper, really must be worn on skin. On skin it takes on a more powdery quality and it's sweeter, but I still get sharpness, like it almost goes musty on my skin. Smells very vintage... It reminds me of an exotic dancer's boudoir in the 1940's - although I find it to smell dated and vintage it has an undeniable dirty, sexy feel.

LinaSVas

To me, this fragrance smells clean, fresh, floral and spicy. The sweet notes don't really pick up on my skin, surprisingly the bergamot is very prominent. I mostly smell star anise, ylang-ylang, ginger and orchid. I feel like it has a colon-like quality to it but it seems still more feminine (many its the bottle).
Unfortunately, the projection is closer to the skin and requires reapplication.
Best use in the summers for freshness after a shower and spring/autumn when the where is not so harsh, I think it would also be lovely in a cool even but indoors like on a cosy night in.

Love at first smell!
Warm, sexy, cozy.. it feels like a yellow cashmere shawl wrapped around you and you're wearing only sexy silk underwear underneath.
Stays on forever!
Just ordered a bottle ❤️

I did my research on weather to pick Classique in its Edt or Edp form and I've read how some people associated this one with an orange cleanser or an air freshener, specifically the Gel form that is placed inside cars.

From the bottle it does smell like an orange air freshener but when worn on the skin,it is the orange cleanser(which is either a good or a bad thing). You see,I was craving for an orange blossom perfume that is in the same family as YSL's Cinema. This comes a bit close. It is orange blossom and vanilla but with a spicy kick to it.It's more than just the star anise, the cinnamon and ginger. It's like a whole shop of open-sack spices. As it dries down,it has this sparkly, wet make up powder quality to it and I can fully assume that it is the iris.Honestly, this can pass as a guerlain fragrance. An older sister to guerlain's Insolence. They look similar but are totally two different person. It has the sparkling quality that insolence edt and samsara edp has.

The vanilla in this one is only a supporting role to the Orange blossom, mandarin, white florals and spices. It has this sweet and cold quality that makes it smell so much like an orange popsicle.

I quite enjoy it for its potency and longevity. And I might've mentioned that I wanted an orange blossom perfume like Cinema,I won't be associating this one with that but rather, with Insolence edt (spaceship bottle).I might consider getting the lace EDP bottle if I ever crave for another boozy perfume or a rose perfume.

Controlledbyscent31

This reminds me of my mother, how she smelt to me as a child and as I've grown up my holidays to Spain with my family & always purchasing bottles in the duty free shops & dousing myself in It in the hot sun totally intoxicating and strong but I love it for that, a really random thing I should add though if you wear hair extensions this does not come off of them no matter how much you wash them so be prepared for it to stick around in your extensions for a long time if you spray your hair. I learnt the hard way 😅

dgtorres19

It did not smell how it expected it to smell based on the notes. I wanted to fall in love with it but i just could not. I mostly detected the cinnamon note and rose as the strongest to my nose i guess i was hoping for more of a vanilla presence. Although, it is a beautifully made perfume it just is not me. It sits a little too powdery for my taste. I am going to hold onto it a bit more before i let it go maybe it will grow on me.

betagm

too sweet but I love to smell it sometime :)bring memories

harperpeshhe

Sexy, spicy, floral, vanilla perfection. Orange blossom, ginger and vanilla are the stars here. All the notes are blended beautifully to make one gorgeously unique scent.

grapefruit352

Nowdays it is just pure fragrance of the orange blossom. Reminds orange blossom oil for bath which I had in the past. Before reformulation it was glorious and just perfect! It was..

What is it about this that is so damn addictive? Sensual, sensual, sensual... All the pleasure points in my brain get triggered by this.

A couple of hours ago, a group of girls walked into my workplace at a sports bar to watch the Europa League final, and one of them was wearing this. I was spellbound. At the time, I didn't know if she was wearing this for sure, I only had my suspicion because just yesterday I had received a tester vial of this and my experience of both the tester and the scent coming off of her was identical - spellbound. As she moved away from me, so did her hypnotizing scent, and I was so entranced by it that I considered several times if I should bother her and ask what captivating scent she was wearing. I really loved how the scent radiated like an aura around her and went with her instead of cloying the room. I held back from asking her, though, and when I got home at 1 AM I ran straight to my tester, and: ahhh... Yes, it was Classique. One sniff and there my senses were gone again...

Classique is womanly in the best way imaginable. The woman wearing Classique could be your lover, your mother, or a perfect stranger that captures your heart for a brief moment in public, like for me with the girl at work. Whoever she is to you, she for sure is warm and secure - she feels like a long hug and home. But she also undoubtedly has the most playful female spirit ;). I think these elements are what makes Classique so addictive. Moreover, you feel things for her that you feel for no other. Because there is no other... All thanks to Classique.

Brb, upgrading my tester to a full sized bottle.

Edit:
I get a lot of compliments wearing this: that I smell nice, and, most importantly, that I smell unique. I've never received that latter compliment on any other perfume in my collection.

Bkboynxtdoor

I smelled this out of the bottle when I was younger and did not like it at all.. but now as I mature, my taste has changed a lot. I’m so curious about this one, Someone I know owns the Betty Boop edition and I loved it on my skin. Today I ordered a 0.34 oz to test out- let’s see when it gets here what my new impressions are.
Received it today 7/14 and it’s not for me at all…all I get is powder and more powder…sigh, glad I only ordered a travel size

sopelka

There are some fragrances that are too sexy for work and daytime wear. Classique, I believe, is one of them. I adore it, but I feel self-conscious wearing it in non-romantic situations. It’s very recognizable and seductive. Can be a great “unspoken sign” to communicate with your sex partner.

Zae

This is seductive scent, very powerful for EDT,
Expresses it beautifully in one spray...

HibiscusLola

PERFECT.
I wish I could say more about this wonderful fragrance, but the truth is that it leaves me speechless. My signature for 10 years, this is me in a bottle.
Maybe it smells vintage, surely it’s not for everyone, but if it works for you, you feel so lucky. I am in love, literally.
Nothing compares to Classique EDT. ♥️

theuntrainednose

I have a sample of the EDT.

---

Powdery, sweet, vanilla, floral. Unapologetically sweet and fluffy but not screechy nor plastic-y. I don't usually gravitate to a scent this clearly sweet and fluffy, but this one is enjoyable, because it goes beyond that.

There's a hint of watery (not oceanic, just watery) notes that lend it a cute airiness. There's a soapy note, but white soap, something like those classic savon de toilette with jasmine and white flowers notes. Delightfully powdery. Very fluffy and comforting.

I am surprised to say I like it. I may actually want it.

millylou007

personally, the fragrance isn’t to my taste. HOWEVER, this is the longest lasting EDT i’ve ever tried - even with just one spray.

Ellsa

This perfume is so bad and heavy for me. It gives me headaches, the same as all Gaultier perfumes, except Scandal but even that I use it only on my clothes never on my skin. It smells too strong in a bad way for me and too synthetic. I think the classics perfumes are just not for me.

marialena888m

The 90s-00s formulation was absolutely heavenly and the current formulation is nice enough, ie. I still like it enough to purchase it. It is alot weaker now, not as warm or as rich, not as intoxicating, and missing the spice (no more ginger). It’s a sweet, powdery floral-vanilla with an orangey twist. I dislike the opening still (heavy blast of orange blossom), as I did with the old formulation, but the drydown, while very pleasant, is definitely not as potent or as seductive as it used to be. Lasts around 6-7 hours, and sillage is low-moderate. The current formulation could work as an everyday scent in any season, so those who found the original formulation overpowering would probably prefer this new one. It should be renamed ‘Classique Lite’ due to how watered down and simplified it has become.

lzak

A classic beautiful scent that is an EDT with some lasting power, which reminds me of the older version of Dior Hypnotic, which I fortunately have a bottle of. Also bought the EDP, unless they change that too.
I just got into perfume recently, and I like perfumes that last, so this is an upvote.

Yanana

This smells like an expensive luxury soap to me. A bit retro, clean and sexy. It is mostly flowery, with a soft sharpness... if that makes sense. It is also quite long lasting on me.

ClaireMeow

Ah Classique, the first fragrance I fell in love with! The entire Classique range was a 'signature' scent for me for about a decade - I didn't know about the differences between EDT and EDP and many bottles were gifts, so I was lucky to try the original EDP and EDT; the fabulous 2003 special edition 😍; a 2005/6 alcohol free summer edition; and now I have this EDT, Classique Intense EDP and the Essence de Parfum EDP (the latter two I
still love).

So, that's where I'm coming from when I say that for me this no longer holds up. I'm sure my changing body chemistry and tastes have something to do with it of course, and it is still a beautiful scent but I no longer vibe with the dirtiness of the ylang-ylang and the indolic tuberose. And the powdery (iris?) accord is way too much for me now. A couple of people have commented that this smelles like the 90s in a bottle and I think that's spot on 😂 But in a good way. It makes me quite sad to part ways with this lovely lady, because she certainly used to give me that sexy confident feeling almost every day. The top notes are described as sweet and fruity, but I now prefer Gaultier Scandal (super sweet honey) and in comparison this is much less sugary and far more moody, musky - no doubt a positive for some folk.

For an EDT it does have excellent longevity and sillage, but my recommendation would be not to blind buy this one and maybe try a few from the Classique family to see which one suits you best. I will be checking out a sample of the EDP if I get a chance, but I have a feeling my nostalgia for that perfect first formula might spoil my enjoyment of it.

drugstore classics

Classique is one of the few scents that as an inexperienced newbie I immediately liked. :)

Something I've learned over time is that it has the white florals, the spice, the animalics, the musk, the amber, and the vanilla that are ALL considered highly seductive. This is like an elixir of femininity!

Although those who hate powder or sweet(ish) florals will rightly avoid, I can't think of any other reason NOT to try Classique. The similar smelling fragrances listed here are also worth noting, as each and every good floriental in this category has a strong aphrodisiac potential. You want a timeless man magnet? Wear Classique, check out Balkis, test Poeme, consider flankers! So far they have all proven highly attractive, and with good reason.

AMMILLER

This has to be one of the most unique perfumes I have ever smelled. I was very surprised because I didn't expect Classique to smell like it did, based on the ingredients! It's almost hard to describe, and I wasn't sure I liked it at first. But it has grown on me.

It's sweet and strongly powdery. There is something intensely familiar about it, but I cannot place my finger on it. What I didn't like about it at first, was that there was something "dirty" under all that powdery sweetness. Like putting clean clothes on without bathing. It was the cinnamon and anise. The musk. The almost cosmetic powderiness and cloying vanilla is the mask on the dirty face of lusty spices, splashes of floral orange water and a musky base.

I was surprised by this scents complexity, and how much I grew to like it. I think it would be a great scent for a mysterious woman, an arty woman, a date or maybe even clubbing. However, though I loved it, it's not a scent I would wear. It's powerful and everlasting. I am like the color light purple with a hand knit purse and a ice coffee in hand, and Classique is deep red with tortoise shell glasses and a cigarette on her lips.

alannawangoom

Bought this fragrance just to try it out. For the first moment after spraying this fragrance, to me it smells like bug spray. The kind that you spray onto your skin to keep the mozzies away 🦟🦟

But after that the smell settles in after a couple of seconds. It turns into a more sweeter and more glamorous scent. It’s sweet and musky, warm, powdery and has almost a faint citrusy smell. It’s definitely a more mature fragrance.

It’s not my fragrance but don’t mean it’s not your scent. I recommend you give this fragrance a chance.

Pastybarbieloves

I hated this on the paper strip. Then after a few hours sniffed it and couldn’t get enough. Its such a sexy, classy and feminine fragrance that can work for any age. Endless compliments on this

Bellachampagne

Definitely grown and sexy. When I'm wearing it I smell strong orange blossoms-amber-tonka-sandalwood then the powdery iris and musk. I think its a powerful feminine fragrance.

Nylons, powder, satin, and Herb Ritts photos always come to mind with JPG. If the music video "Freedom! '90" had a scent, this might be it.

I don't find it overly mature, I find it edgy and sexy. If you want to seduce someone, this just might work.

I do remember it being slightly richer and warmer back in the late 90s, more "make up-y" too. I was 16, working at The Gap and I knew if I wore this to work, people would stop me and ask me what I was wearing. Fast forward 20 years and I needed it back in my collection.

My current bottle is very bright and sweet with lots of orange blossom. Wish it still had that heavier amber musk vibe. It will always be a nostalgic favorite for me.

After showering tonight I had a sudden yearning for only this one. I smelled it without having gone near my bottle in about a year. I longed for something fresh, powdery, beautiful, comforting, clean; a hug after my shower. There is something so alluring about this fragrance. It is sheer. It is nude. It is the smell of natural skin and intimacy with your lover. It is also the smell of a breastfeeding mother and baby. It is a fabulous and classic combination of vanilla and orange blossom sunken in a perfect, golden amber. Tuberose is not usually a note that plays nicely on my skin or to my nose in general, but in JPG Classique, it is absolutely beautiful and my skin loves it. It is the note that adds sensuality to the whole concoction which makes this fragrance divinely and truly one of the first 'nude', 'sheer' fragrances if there ever was one. By that, I do not mean it is a watered-down light version of anything, as so many current nude/sheers are. It is so much finer, silkier, richer than that. It is gloriously beautiful and perfect for spring days and nights when I'm not feeling the need for an exuberant sunny, green, or floral to announce my love for spring. It's for days I'm feeling serious and in need of great beauty and comfort. This is it. I longed for it and it embraced me. I feel loved, peaceful, gorgeous and blessed. Classique Magnifique!

Kon-nos91

Such a beauty! All the time I was testing it from curiosity in a perfume store, I couldn't get what it really is, mostly because I wasn't interested enough. It was definately in my 'like' category in fragrantica as (and will stay there, no offence) it reminded me of the bubbly-white floral-vanilla character of my signature back then Viva la juicy EDP by Juicy Couture. Classique has faced so many reformulations, light ones but still, till the moment I got a good sample that traveled me back to 90's. My mother told me that a friend of hers had it as a signature scent. My God, why did I test it on my skin? By sniffing it, I remembered of her friend, the smell of their house even her daughter's that was identical to my sample. Starting with an orange blossom (typical feminine must) note of the last decades with a fresh (if it's ginger) vibe, in a base of an oriental, warm, I would say 90% sandalwood/creamy hug. Classique or not, the vanilla of it is one of the most intimate I've ever experienced and could be a bit boring without that rice powder touch. Amazing how JPG had such an idea of a classic essence, a vision that could stay eternal no matter how tastes & world are changing...

Hunnynpink

I get a powdery tuberose sandalwood musk and hint of vanilla... This is vintage smelling, not for me

Jean Paul Gaultier Classique EDT opens with a strong projection of sweet, floral, musky, fruity, and spicy notes. The opening is intense, dense, mature, sensual, elegant, bright, and refined. The orange blossom, ylang-ylang, orchid, tuberose, star anise, and plum are the prominent opening notes. The flowers create a complex and delectable note; the ylang-ylang is the yellow floral component, sweet, creamy, with nuances of banana, peach, and a noticeable musky, slightly animalic touch. The orchid is close by and contributes with an intense, sweet, exotic, and floral note. The tuberose is the third noticeable floral note, intense, white floral, dense, sweet with green nuances. The last pronounced note is the orange blossom; in this fragrance, it comes across as sweet, warm white floral, with a citrus touch. A step behind is the plum and star anise; they create a sweet, purple fruity, dense, inviting, and a spicy, sweet, intense, warm, balsamic, woody, licorice-like touch. As time passes, the vanilla, amber, musk, cinnamon, and iris start developing. The sweetness of the vanilla contributes to the sweetness of the flowers, but it does not take the focus away from the exquisite bouquet; the amber, iris, and musk give the fragrance a dry, slightly powdery, and ambery character, the musk also enhances the nuances of the ylang-ylang boosting the projection of the fragrance. The cinnamon joins the star anise adding its sweet, spicy, and warm note; the sandalwood is a sweet and creamy touch. The rose and ginger are a faint touch in the far back of the fragrance. The fragrance has a noticeable but relatively linear opening to dry down transition. The opening favors mostly the flowers and a few spices, but it also contains a light and brief sweet citrusy and fruity touch created by the mandarin orange, bergamot, and pear. As time passes, the musky nature of the ylang-ylang and the rest of the flowers further develop. One or two steps behind follows the plum and vanilla. Finally, towards the dry down, the musk, amber, iris, cinnamon, and sandalwood appear as support notes. Once Jean Paul Gaultier Classique EDT has reached its full dry down, it can be summarized as a strong projection, musky, yellow floral ylang-ylang, white floral tuberose, orange blossom, orchid, iris, sweet vanilla, fruity plum, spicy star anise, cinnamon, and sandalwood fragrance. The fragrance feels ambery, animalic, bold, casual, comforting, creamy, dense, slightly dirty, dry, elegant, energizing, exotic, expensive, feminine, floral, fresh, fruity, heavy, high-quality, imposing, intense, inviting, mature, modern, musky, natural, nicely-blended, pungent, rich, seductive, sweet, warm, wild, and very pleasant.

I really like the drydown but the opening lasts at least 2 hours on me and smells a bit too mature. I see why some like it. If it smelled like the drydown all through I would buy it! In my eyes this would suit a lady over 35

GinCatsBooks

Ooooh, Classique, bought a 50ml with body lotion, got addicted, wore it A LOT and used the body lotion as well, for whatever reason it fell to the back of my wardobe, I'm actually surprised I haven't written a review yet, so here we go!

Classique was a scent a relative used to wear during my childhood, I didnt actually remember what it smelt like, other than it smelt very warm, when it arrived, I eagerly opened the box and there it was, the powder pink burlesque bottle and a tube of body lotion, also in the same powdery pink hue.

The first thing I notice on first spray is this make-upy powderiness from the iris, its not unpleasant, it makes me think of what the make up and hair department behind the scenes of a blockbuster production would smell like, once it dries down, the powderiness settles, vanilla, orange blossom and tuberose become more prominent on me, its got quite a linear dry down, but its a very lovely fresh-powdery scent, the body lotion has a similar powderiness but is very evocative of freshly washed linens to my nose, I thoroughly enjoyed using it and felt a tinge of sadness once I'd finished the tube.

Longevity is excellent, all day wear from 8am till 5:00pm, silage is moderate from 2/3 spritzes, its an EdT which behaves like an EdP, the same for amazing silage and longevity can also be said for the now discontinued Essence De Parfum flanker, one of the few sweet fragrances that I really enjoy. Classique is an apt name, its a true classic and I encourage anyone starting out their fragrance journey to smell it, a real masterpiece

Josesalinas

Ok this is 90s in a bottle very strong orange blossom, its warm and, spicy, very naughty and boudoir dresser cosmetic powdery kinda a exaggerated, caricature of a french woman oh and theres a licorice/anise running through everything for all you regaliz haters

O`Hara

I don't find Classique dated, vintage or old - fashioned at all. It is classic though. Smells to me like woman's skin but better. There is something sensual about it and wouldn't imagine a coquette in the shopping mall weraring it. It is rather for a woman with luscious hair who has a thing for stockings. Then I guess it could be labeled as vintage after all. But it's the modern and sexual interpretation of it.

One of the few fragrances that I prefer in the EDT formulation. So much better.

flyergirl❤️perfumes

A timeless beauty,a classic like name of classique...🧡

ellie9

Smells very 1990's super model. Not a bad thing at all. Lasts a very long time on my skin and is a crowd pleaser, especially with the guys 🙂

xodvm

This fragrance can do no wrong in my books. I was afraid I would hate it because I cannot stand ylang ylang, but this beaut wears like a cashmere sweater. She's warm, inviting, delicious and mysterious. On first spritz I got smacked in the face with the scent of ginger and orange blossom. I was worried I would hate this. I freaked out a little because I purchased the largest size and she was NOT cheap. But as it dried down it became a creamy, powdery vanilla unlike anything I have ever smelled before. She does not smell cheap. She's definitely not for those who like candy-sweet vanillas; this is sophisticated and luxe. The bottle is an excellent representation of the scent because it does make me think of lingerie. Beautiful, lacey, nude lingerie.

jodee4999

I really thought like other at first whoa thats strong... I might have made a mistake this is old lady perfume i said like my mom use to buy from the shopping channel the thoughts that ran through my mind...should i sell it? should i exchange it can i exchange and then as time went on i smell this amazing pear vanilla musk cinnamon on my wrist i could hardly believe it was the same perfume needless to say im glad it stayed with me long enough to realize this and i didnt return it

nadiamonte08

Last time I bought Classique I found the notes to be odd on initial sprays... until I let it dry down. It then transforms into a sensual vanilla and powdery musk with good silleage on me. I think I will buy this again as I’m in love with the bottle and I really feel I need to give this unique fragrance another chance. I would receive so many compliments on wearing this classy fragrance, Time to purchase this again. :)

u24masonl

Ooh this is a sexy and sophisicated perfume. Firstly, the sillage is great and the lasting power is practically apocalyptic; I can still very much smell it on my skin more than 12 hours after the first spritz.

For me, the orchid, orange blossom and musk really comes through, which is such a sensual, feminine combination. It's probably best suited for the evening, but is very much interseasonal (if you don't mind wearing more prominent perfumes during the summer) I get so many compliments on this perfume, and it's my boyfriend's favourite.

If 'flirty' could be bottled - this is it!

enticesensesbodyspirit

Have always loved this one. Sexy perfume

pamplemousse2

Hmm, I didn't know what to expect with this one, but upon immediate spray of the EDT, it smells like a very powdery white floral with a hint of sweetness, which does smell a bit dated and grandma-y. I do think though that at the same time, it does smell elegant and if you were dressing up for something nice, I could see this working well. I feel like wearing this casually, it would be a bit too 'old lady'-ish on me (I'm in my late 20s), but as I said, dressed up for a fancy event, this would be very classy.

About 5 minutes after application it starts to smell a bit more syrupy sweet, but it's not super loud, i.e. like Scandal. It also has a very strong projection and sillage, so be careful. Shortly after, the star anise starts to come out a lot more and it's started to become warm spicy as well. Almost like a sweet warm licorice spice. About 10 minutes later the white floral really starts to take over. There's still a bit of powderiness, but less so than initially.

About 20 minutes later and I really like how this has settled down more, and it's now neither too powdery, nor too sweet, nor too floral. It is now very nicely all blended together.

This has become a very classy scent. I'm not sure if it's exactly me, but I can appreciate that this does have a specific feeling and personality to it. As others have said, perhaps some 90s femininity and sensuality. I know Dita von Teese is close to JPG, so I tried not make an association that wasn't there, but I can't deny this scent definitely makes me think of DVT. Definitely classique.

An hour later and I definitely smell the vanilla coming through as well, and it's become more vanilla-amber-spicy, yet still a bit powdery and clean and strength is still incredible.

Wow, 5 hours later and it's still going strong. So much so, my boyfriend was a bit overwhelmed with the scent giving me a hug because it was still so strong, which he wasn't expecting. It also smells a lot more like a white floral fragrance now, reminiscent of Alien.

10 hours later and I still smell it on me. Albeit it's more faint and a skin scent, but absolutely there is still a small cloud around me of it and haven't been able to stop smelling it. This thing is a beast.

Gül Türe

Strong, beautiful, and sexy❤️ I love it so much. its permanence and silage are excellent. it may be the most beautiful orange flower I have ever smelled. The harmony with other notes is great. a perfect blend. I think this is a perfume that I will wear all my life. I have likened this perfume to Guerlain Incolence a bit, but maybe because of the iris note. Because there is not a great similarity between the two perfumes. a unique and timeless fragrance in every sense. Considering its release year, it has been a modern fragrance beyond its times. simply perfect.💕

I'm 24 years old guy and I would love to smell this on women. Do not bother if anyone says this is outdated.
My rating: 7/10

This is the scent that taught me a very valuable lesson in fragrance judgment-NEVER judge a fragrance from smelling the nozzle!
Also, LET THIS DRY DOWN on your skin.

I (thought) I absolutely detested this scent for many, many years and couldn’t believe anyone would want to wear something that smelt like it.

I bought a sample of the EDT after smelling, and loving the EDP. I wanted to remind myself why I didn’t like the EDT.
On the initial spray, I knew exactly why I didn’t like it. Harsh, soapiness. Ugh. Ah, yes-that’s why.

But low and behold, once on the skin, it transformed into this thing of beauty! Creamy, sweet vanilla, a little spice. The soap totally calmed down and it just became something I would never have imagined it would.

I’ve got through two bottles of this now. I have many scents but this is one I love to use this in the cold weather. It melts when warmed up on the skin releasing such a delicious sweetness.
I have tried this on a hot day and it is very stifling! Not a summer fragrance for me. Perfect for cold winter days.

If in doubt, try it and let it settle on the skin for a while. You could be pleasantly surprised. Very classy scent. Very feminine. Love it.

This reminds me of the bath cubes my Nanna had when I was very young. Each cube was wrapped separately. They were equivalent to compressed bath salts or bath bombs of today.. floral but could burn the hairs in your nostrils smelling them before dissolved in water.. but I loved them and the nostalgia they bring to mind.. just like JPG.. clean powdery goodness.

This syrupy deliciousness was my signature for many years. Sometimes I grow tired of it, but always buy a new bottle later when I start to miss it. It's funny how people associate scents with different ages. I do to. For me I associate this mostly with my early twenties, carefree days and partying, so when people refer to it as an old lady perfume, I find it amusing. I absolutely do get the idea, as I am now in my forties and obviously now an "old lady" for the generation below me (and this was popular when I was young). In my eyes it's a playful scent. Great for all days except hot summer days in the tropics. Some days I mostly get the smell of orange and orange blossom with some spice and other days it is an ylang ylang bomb.

The original was my signature perfume for many years from my mid 30s to my mid 40s a time when I encountered a lot of change both in my work and personal life…..good and bad. I still wear this from time to time but it has endured many re-formulations and the Classic Classique is long gone but it is still a lovely fragrance and I will always have it in my collection for days when I am feeling nostalgic

There is something sour in this! I smell it immediately. I just got the EDT in a travel size. Yes, it is sweet and lovely and everything everyone has already said, but... I don’t know... maybe a musky sex smell? Whatever it is, I haven’t washed it off. It’s fascinating me.
