Chanel N°5 Eau Premiere by Chanel is a Floral Aldehyde fragrance for women. Chanel N°5 Eau Premiere was launched in 2008. The nose behind this fragrance is Jacques Polge. Top notes are Aldehydes, Ylang-Ylang and Neroli; middle notes are Jasmine and Tincture of Rose; base notes are Vanille, Sandalwood and Vetyver.

For Chanel No°5 fans, Chanel is launching a new version of the world-renowned perfume – Chanel N°5 Eau Premiere. This modern and seductive fragrance was adapted from the original Chanel N°5 by Jacques Polge.

The new version of the \'old\' fragrance is lighter, fresher, softer, more delicate, and suitable for every-day use. Chanel N°5 Eau Premiere includes all original ingredients of N°5: rose absolute, jasmine, neroli and ylang-ylang. Ylang-ylang for this fragrance comes from the Comoro Islands, and Jasmine from Chanel-owned fields in Grasse. The face on the ad is again Nicole Kidman.

Chanel No°5 Eau Premiere comes in 150ml bottle (US$125) and will be available at department stores and other Chanel retailers in October 2007.

oh, I love this... high quality terrycloth towels; going to a dinner in gold jewelry and mules but with tips of your hair left curly from sea water, a light sunburn on your nose; Jane Birkin's white swimsuit in La Piscine (1969).

aldehydes here are cold and sparkling instead of soapy. make you feel pampered, effortlessly so but does require a certain... aspiration? like being a good skier or being able to quote the Iliad or at least wanting to appear as someone who is fluent in Italian and knows how to open oysters properly. N°5 Eau Premiere definitely has a transatlantic accent but she's enough fun to see that you messed up "champagne" and "sparkling" before a polite company on purpose. Perfect thing to spray on clothes. A delight!

I have Eau Prémière in the first tall bottle, 150 ml, which I received as a gift for Christmas 2008 - a very long time ago. I had got half way through it when the spray nozzle broke, so I didn’t wear it for ages (years). It was turning a blush pink color as it aged. Recently I wanted to wear it again, and I read posts and watched videos on how to repair sprayers - nothing helped. I realized I’d have to remove the metal collar somehow and then decant the perfume into another bottle, which my husband tried to help with, breaking the glass neck off the bottle in the process. But I was able to decant the remainder (about 75 ml!) into a nice, generic spray bottle, frosted glass. The perfume has now deepened to a darker pinkish orange. But the fragrance is still beautiful! I smell the banana sweetness of the ylang-ylang, the cool metallic aldehydes that are particular to Chanel, vanilla, sandalwood, rose, a soft muskiness. It’s all there. It has deepened with age. It isn’t as effervescent. But it’s beautiful still. It is indisputably identifiably No 5. It’s frou frou blush satin maribou-trimmed mules - but elegant, not vulgar. It would be lovely with a business suit. I tied a narrow black satin bow around the neck of the new bottle and added a couple of Chanel charms (gift with purchase this past Christmas, perfect). It looks adorable and I can enjoy my perfume again at last. I had read years back that Jasmine in perfume will darken with age, but that does not mean the scent has turned bad. It’s just the nature of jasmine (?). This one has aged but has not turned bad. I don’t know that I will ever need to purchase another bottle. Evidently, this one will last me the rest of my life. :-)

I love this one so much in the winter. Champagne-like aldehydes with fluffy vanilla gives me cream soda/vanilla coke vibes with the signature No.5 ylang and iris. Drydown is creamy sandalwood with a touch of smoky incense with powdery rose and jasmine. It provides a beautiful scent bubble for many hours. My gateway No.5 fragrance and probably my favorite flanker of the line. I haven't tried the 2015 version but hear it has vanilla and less sandalwood.

Vintage Floral-Aldehyde YLANG-NEROLI with Creamy, Soapy, Powdery, Woody & Near-Licorice Nuances. This review is for the 2008 Eau Premiere, now sadly discontinued but sometimes available on the grey market. In the first couple of minutes after the spray dries, I get mainly aldehydes with a soft-sharp combination enhanced by the ylang-neroli. Ylang here is buttery-creamy and neroli brings a clean & soapy facet. Transitioning to the heart, the jasmine & rose swell through with soft near-licorice and velvety floral nuances. As it dries down, it picks up more and more vanilla and soft creamy sandalwood. I've had this bottle since 2008 when it came out as an updated version of the original. To me it still smells like the original, but it's a little softer, creamier and more vanillic. Has excellent performance for year-round wear, but to me it's a special-occasion-conservative scent with a dash of Ice-Queen. It's a longtime love for me. If you happen to find a vintage bottle, enjoy!

EloiseM

A more youthful and wearable version of No 5. One of my favorites.

UK-rain

This is for me the ultimate feel-good factor/spirit lifting perfume out there.
My nose makes no similarity whatsoever to the classic Chanel N°5. This is like the most sophisticated classic barbershop cologne ever created. Easily wearable for a man. I can not imagine anyone not liking this incredible creation !!!

Kiku

I'm not a big fan of Chanel but this light and breezy version of the classic but bland No 5 is one of the loveliest perfumes I've ever experienced. I can't imagine any occasion, time of day, or time of year when this wouldn't be suitable.. Save your pennies and get one and make it your "go to" fragrance.

Eyisa

One of my absolute favourite scents. So well-rounded, soothing yet lively, quiet yet interesting, light yet substantial. Please never change this formulation.

Guerlinade

The truest soul of Chanel 5° is embodied in this fragrance, nowadays. Polge really is a master!

ellevee

I blind bought a bottle at the end of last year after reading through these thorough reviews, and absolutely love this fragrance. It has enough going on that it makes me feel put together somehow, yet is still light and so wearable, it's a nearly everyday frag for me now unless my urges call me elsewhere. I even spritz a bit on my bed linens, as there is something deeply soothing and relaxing about this formulation. I think it might be the neroli, which I often use as an essential oil for relaxation, but there is just a lot of chill here on the dry down. I would definitely recommend that anyone who couldn't quite carry the weight of the original give this one a go. Equally timeless.

rosetinteddream

I have to agree with everything @Perfumipro1 has said!

I bought this version of Eau Premiere off of Mercari for a very good price. I absolutely love Chanel no. 5, I own every concentration (minus L’Eau which is actually on the way in the mail!) I was a bit worried that this might not be a good reinvention, but a lot of the reviews here had me keeping good faith. I’m so glad I bought it!

It is absolutely Chanel no 5, minus the animal musks as well as orris and patchouli. I’m sure there are other ingredients missing now due to restrictions. But this does an absolutely excellent job of bringing the essential bones and beauty of no. 5 into the modern day.

I wear no. 5 as a man, with no shame now. I don’t care if people find it inappropriate on me, it makes me feel special. My grandmother used to wear it and I have these newfound memories of her dusting me with no 5 body powder after my bath when I was a little boy. This scent just makes so much sense to me.

Having said that, I do admit that with the vintage formulations (which I still love), at times they can be a bit challenging. This is all dependent on skin chemistry as well as the climate/temperature that you are wearing it in.

This iteration, imo, helps keep the scent from becoming too heavy or even “dusty” as some people have described at times. I find it bright and refreshing, but with an obvious depth, warmth, and comfort that sticks with you. It is very elegant and sophisticated, without becoming too much or too complex. It also has a very nice projection on my skin for a few hours, then settles down to a skin scent on me for about 4-6 more hours with wafts coming to my nose here and there.

Seriously, this is really well done. I highly recommend for someone interested in no. 5 but perhaps couldn’t get past the opening in the OG concentrations, or some of the heavier notes.

Update 07/22 - I really did like it but I didn’t love it like I thought. I think after falling in love with the original No 5 (parfum/EDT), this one just falls slightly flat for me. I WANT those notes that challenge many others. I don’t want any animals to be harmed, or scarce ingredients to become extinct, I’ll just find vintage bottles online 😊 I ended up selling this to someone who is really going to get so much pleasure from it!

CeciliaMarie123

What a beautiful fragrance! I'm sitting in my apartment floating in clouds of Chanel no 5 eau premiere. I recently acquired one of the tall bottles (5 ounces) through Mercari. I got a great deal, so I am very pleased. This version of no. 5 is sweet, but just enough of the original's signature is present. Five stars.

melusina1982

Call me crazy but this is what N5 EDP smells like nowadays on my skin, perhaps Premiere is a tiny bit more vanillary.
The 2015 version is really good, but not the same.

LOST_HORIZON

Chanel 5 Eau Premiere is a fluffy and smooth dream.

In the first vaporization there is a clear sensation of Chanel 5 eau de toilette, the current one. It is a very beautiful and characteristic Chanel 5 first sensation of flowers, aldehydes and citrus.

But as the minutes go by there is a true creamy, smooth, tender and juicy addiction of non-gourmand vanilla and incredible, beautiful, beautiful...heavenly ylang. In this Chanel 5 flanker the aldehydes have been lightened quite a bit, but they exist and exist in a more ethereal way, but always masterful aldehydes.

It is a softer, more tender and more caressing Chanel.
It is a fragrance that caresses the skin in such a special way, it can be used at any time and always dresses you with elegance and above all with Positive energy.

I only know this version with an elongated bottle and I recognize that it is currently the Chanel 5 that I like the most because it is so docile and sensual that I feel super sexy with this perfume in any situation.

I first experienced Eau Premiere with the 2015 version in the classic No. 5 bottle, after L'eau convinced me to give it a shot. I decided quickly that I preferred L'eau and didn't give it much of a thought thereafter. But recently, I came across it again, in this tall bottle and wow, it sure is more transparent, lemony, and sparkly! With a less heavy base too, which I appreciate in the summer months. I finally get the 'lemon chiffon cake' descriptions now where I didn't get before with the 2015 formulation. L'eau is still my favorite of the No. 5 series, but I think there is space in my collection for this older version of Eau Premiere. :)

Volatile

My first encounter with any of Chanel’s N5 was with this version of Eau Premier, at first I was a little hesitant because of the negative reviews that the original gets. I was expecting a bug spray level of powder and floral overload but instead I was greeted with bright and sunny dancing aldehydes that dried down into a sweeter slightly powdery skin scent, it takes to your body and you wear it.. it never wears you!
Eau premier has helped muster up the power to try the newer Eau Premier and the original.

Today I bought a second hand bottle which is at least ten years old and 70ml in it. Spray button is broken. But the juice is so beautiful! I don’t believe that I paid only 14$. If you want to buy a new bottle in Turkey, it costs half of a minimum wage. I’m so freaking lucky🍀
It’s very clean, powdery, classy, feminine. It’s like “the one” of the all fragrances.

LaContessina

First and foremost, this is only faintly reminescent of the original Chanel n°5, what they do have in common are the aldheydes, that ground the fragrance and stay tuned for hours.
Eau première is a modern, powdery-flowery, sophisticated fragrance matching a fast-paced style of living. It has little to share with the misterous-seductive-powdery sensuality that we associate N° 5 with.
Eau première is still a feminine fragrance but to my nose it is more associated to a Cristalle type of woman rather than to a classic N°5 type of woman, if you see what I mean.
The first notes are fresh, with orange blossom, rose and jasmine, and a lovely vetiver (not too masculine) on the dry down, not forgetting the aldheydes: so big on the original N°5, here they linger in a subtle, tamed manner.
I bought myself a 150 ml full bottle back in 2008 and I am still enjoying it, it's a very appropriate frag to wear in public or in work situations as it's not offensive and smells posh, classy and refined. A safe buy.

Joys of life

This is a lighter sweeter version of No 5. If you are intrigued by the classic perfume genres but don’t like sharp and soapy aldehydes this is a pleasant variation on the theme. It’s sweet and a bit powdery and warm, while the aldehydes just give a little of that No 5 flavor.
Be warned though, you MUST like ylang ylang to appreciate this perfume, as it’s the primary floral theme. This is VERY different from l’eau by the way, L’eau is a ‘fresh’ themed No 5. This is not fresh at all, but like I said, warm. It reminds me of voulez-vous coucher etc by Killian, except with aldehydes.

chanel or guerlain and other great perfumes can be weared by men :
19 chanel, silence of lanvin, or versace versense, or number 5, especially because we enjoy to smell these perfumes !!
Wearing delicate and classy perfume and being a man, is a charismatic fatal bazooka : muscles but delicate soul !!!
The only thing is to wear them wih a light hand ......less is more.

eau première is The Perfume : number 5 : touch of class, well perfumed, well dressed, perfect, no need to show more.

My missive to Chanel Eau Premiere:

I love you
I love you
I loooove you!

This perfume is a lighter, updated version of the original and does not overpower your senses or people standing nearby.

This update was a smart move by Chanel because it provides a modern appeal without excess spicy fullness that can come from perfumes with origins circa early 1920's.

The scent gently caresses your skin on the dry down that lingers delicately while maintaining the layers of different notes ever so softly.

This fragrance seems to have a long-lasting appeal like akoya pearls or if I were to compare it to a movie, it gives a vibe like Breakfast at Tiffany's feel - fresh, fun, lively but still classic.

Swedelish

Years ago when I first experienced this Eau Premiere on my skin from a sample I got with my purchase of Tresor Midnight Rose at the department store I was immediately captivated by its sparkling, citrusy, aldehydes and warm woody, vanillic drydown. Almost immediately it became my bedtime perfume. It was cozy, classic & modern at the same time. I loved how cuddly it felt to wear it in bed. I'd wake up in the mornings and still smell it's vanilla, powder, and sandalwood drydown.

I think it was my all time favorite Chanel fragrance, even though eventually I tired of it. I'm not much of a Chanel perfume lover now, they don't match my moods orvibes anymore. I won't repurchase because the 150 ml I drained in just a few years gave me my fill. I still think it's a good fragrance from Chanel, though I prefer L'Eau, if any.

This original Eau Premiere delivers on the promise of a younger, modern No. 5. The current formulation is very close with minor tweaks. If you want to dip your toes into aldehydes and can't commit to No. 5 or D&G Red Cap, start with the current Eau Premiere in the square bottle ( if you can find the original tall one like the pic here, get this one). Or No. 5 L'Eau for a less vanillic, more sparkling transparent experience.

christian.dior

I have this perfume and it's super light baby number 5. I love the ad for this one and the idea behind I use it only for special occasions

diego.lesgart

@renzo In my case I do not wear this fragance, bur I wore Coco original, and I have Bel Respiro, Bois de Iles and 1932. I think CHANEL no gender for several of its fragances... I never wear Missia, or Chances, or Gabrielle... But Chanel has several "female" fragances that work perfectly in a man...
Nro. 5 is one of them... so ... go for it!

renzo

Thank you RJ !

but reading the reviews of nr. 5 l' eau, I am starting to doubt...so wich one to choose ? I like something longlasting but I also know that depends on the skin.

I just want to be noticed without spraying 10 times...

Kind regards,

RJ Watson

@renzo, yes, a man could *definitely* pull this off. While I've never owned a bottle, I have spritzed it on many times while walking through a department store's fragrance area. Perfumed water has no genitalia; if it moves you and smells great on you, wear it. Life's too short! Wear the perfume!!!! (You've made me think I should pull the trigger and buy it!)

renzo

Should I, as a man, could wear this fragrance ?
Personally, I think fragrance has no gender, it is a commercial fact, but I often doubt..
But this Eau première gets a lot of positive reviews, so I wonder....

Ladies, your opinion please ??

Kind regards

brokesta911

Fragrantica “notes” are consistent with the scent of Eau Premiere. An accord of Aldehydes (think of soda bubbles & soap) yet more balanced vs. the original No. 5 making it modern), citrusy Neroli and a smooth array of White Florals. After, it mellows down into citrus-white floral-musk combo.

One of the best flankers of No 5. A Modern masterpiece and can easily be unisex. I use this solely as my go-to-bed scent as it’s extremely comforting. I honesty over-spray this and I still smell “balanced” - it’s that good.

Annemarie

I bought this shortly after its initial release. At the time it felt like the fragrance world was holding its breathe to see how Chanel would flank its iconic No 5. Up until then there had been different concentrations and numerous bath and body products for No 5, but no flanker. 'As if for the first time' was the tag line. The ads with Nicole Kidman were stunning.

I was caught up in all that excitement, and saved up for the neat little 40 ml bottle you could get then. As I recall, the choice was between that and a massive 150 ml bottle. Both were column-shaped and the juice was tinted ever so slightly pink. These bottles were discontinued once EP was put into the standard No 5 bottle in 2015.

I'm still only about half-way through my bottle. Lovely though Eau Premiere is, there is something about it that has prevented me embracing it wholeheartedly. It is very feminine, the sort of thing you might wear to a garden wedding, as indeed I have. Gone is the knowing sexiness of the EDT, replaced by a delightful fizzy lemony accord which, as others have said, is reminiscent of lemon cake and champagne.

Occasionally I feel like there is something a little prim about Eau Premiere, like a girl constantly tugging her skirt in case it has ridden up too much. A little unsure of herself, she wanted a classical perfume and bought EP because she wanted something different from her mother's No 5, White Linen and Rive Gauche.

violetstorm

what can i say that probably hasnt been sed lol.........this is an exquisite perfume !!! from first spray to the dry down is excellent !! and i know the word aldehydic is kinda scary lol - it can very strong in some scents but in this perfume its really beautiful - this scent has a very feminine , classy powdery softness to it............its one of my all time chanel fav's !!! suitable for any age too :) and definitely last a long time but at the same time i dont find it to be a powerhouse scent - but they could make it one & i wouldnt mind lol - it smells that good :)

Rory1234

Nice juice. Poor performance. Disappointed

NouveauDruid

Everyone else has said it all but I'm unsure if this came up: it's a tad evocative of Shalimar Light (eau legere) for a bit. The citrus, vanilla, and inherent ylang do this thing that triggers my brain to believe they're alike. Personally, I adored Shalimar Light and bought a set of bath gel, lotion, and spray when it was new. And then, something happened and I was overwhelmed by the fizziness of it and gave it away. For me, Eau Premiere is its primmer, more refined cousin from the old parts of Paree until it completely cools its heels and settles in as a womanly expression of myself. This I reserve for days I want to impress others because if I didn't I'd wish to wear it every day.

Pandarapt

Chanel No.5 peeled off its gritty rinds to leave the bellicose aldehydes at a spa relaxing on some high quality neroli essential oil, removed the excess face powder and took the edge off with some iced champagne.

What you are left with is Chanel No.5's languid ylang-ylang, an unhurried floral heart and surprisingly even-tempered aldehydes lighting altruistically from within, a broadcast of silky glow over a base of moonlight. Faerie-like and a little melancholic, apparently No.5 had a lesson learned about the mutability of a diva's existence and after atonement she still looks back at her old life wistfully. One of my favorite modern Chanels.

Anamandy

I'm working on my second bottle of this. It is like a breath of citrrusy floral filled fresh air, with ylang and creamy vanilla. It's slightly sweet, creamy and has a powdery dry down. Very contemporary and wearable everywhere. I don't find it especially long lasting on my dry skin; but that's why I carry a travel size for touch ups.

What I don't get is why so many reviewers feel they have to seek out bottles when it is readily available at the Chanel website and a lot of times the prices are better than on eBay or many stores, like Sephora. Besides, they also load you up with goodies. At least you know you are getting the real deal. I got a 3.4 oz. for $135 on Chanel's site. I saw that same bottle for near $200 on eBay. Same with the Les Exclusifs Discovery set I'm considering purchasing. Chanel sells it for $250. Ebay sellers are asking $500. That's crazy and you don't even know if what you are getting is real. Besides, Chanel is the most counterfeited scent out there. Sometimes I see a bottle on eBay at a ridiculously low price and when I ask the seller what the batch number is they often don't know what I am talking about or that Chanel, like Dior, and a few other perfumers out there, engrave the batch numbers on the back, dead center near the bottom of the bottle. If the bottle you got off of eBay doesn't have that you have a fake. That's a little thing counterfeiters seem to overlook, along with the label not being correct or dead center in the middle of the bottle (because that is automated by machines so every bottle looks exactly alike), or failing to put the Chanel logo around the neck of the bottle and on the top of the cap. Some of the counterfeits are downright laughable.

So do yourself a favor and check out Chanel's site first before shopping around. Besides, the package you receive will look like the most phenomenally wrapped gift you'll ever receive (same with Dior). That is a joy in itself. Most important of all, it's reassuring to know that the product you purchase is real.

bibibling

I don't know why Iris isn't listed in the notes but there is definitely Iris in here. According to my nose, this is:

Iris + Ylang + Aldehydes + Powdery Notes + Sparkly Fizzy Neroli

Those are the main 5. I really don't notice the rose+jasmine combo note that Chanel does in here but I'm sure it's just really well blended. The sandalwood lends a light creaminess. If there's vanilla, it translates more as a powdered sugar note for me.

I do have the post 2015 version as well and that definitely has more vanilla and is sweeter (and also in my opinion has iris.) That one is usually my favorite of the two but there are moods (like now) where I like this more. It kind of reminds me of the fresh air you smell when you re on top of a snowy mountain, that bright sharp sparkly feeling of inhaling fresh air on a cold day. Except the air is mildly sweet and floral.

This is so beautiful and relaxing. Like a 'take me away to a palace on top of the clouds with no worries and all the time in the world' kind of feeling. I will be sad when it's finished, even though I still have the 2015 version.

(Also, this is one that smells better when your hands are at least half a foot away from your face. If you stick your nose into your wrist you do get that wet talcum powder kind of smell.)

Mr Viking
The tall no 5 eau premiere is 150 ml

( Or 75 or 40 ? Were made too)

There seems to be a lot of copies of the 150 ml
However so be sure to get batch code etc before purchase that's low down on back.
The only reason I know about fakes is because
The silly fakers had put ' no 19 eau premiere ' on a tall 150 ml eau premiere type bottle and that never was released lol , they must have been tired that day!
Good luck !! :)

Camden girl.

Swedelish

My favorite Chanel fragrance from their main line! I like the 2015? version, but I started with this one from 2007 in the huge 5 oz bottle and it's what I'm sticking with. I have plenty of juice to last me and although it's discontinued, I don't feel regret spraying it the same way I do with others in my collection that are d/c and almost extinct. The opening and middle phase remind me a lot of Bois Des Iles, but a less refined, less potent version. The dry down here is full of vanilla and citrus on me, so that's where the similarities end. It's that fizzy aldehydes opening along with the sandalwood that gets me every time!

And for anyone still wondering if the made in USA version differs at all from the made in France version of this particular Premiere, my answer is yes. I have both and here's what I see...

Made in USA juice is clearer and light yellowish whereas made in France is darker and tinted pinkish yellow. The latter is stronger on the aldehydes opening and stronger on the vanilla and sandalwood base. Marginally. You can tell by looking at them that the made in France is more highly concentrated. By the smells of it, it's also a touch higher quality and probably made with better ingredients. I trust my nose on this one. The differences however are negligible when you don't have both to compare. Made in US is amazing, but made in France is stronger on all fronts and lasts longer as well. I'm happy to have both so I can spray the USA version freely while saving the France bottle for whenever I want that extra oomph.

I first picked this up at its launch in 2007, but I (inexplicably) returned it. I remember that I had been so excited to get it, because I love love love Chanel No 5, but I was disappointed that Eau Premiere wasn't "as good" or as strong as the original. So I exchanged it for the No 5 pure parfum instead. Fast forward to now. I already own L'Eau, and it is way too soft to even be detectable to me, but I figured it was time to revisit Eau Premiere. I decided to purchase an original 2007 version and I am so happy I did. It's so fresh and lemony, and actually reminds me very much of Shalimar Legere (which is also pretty new to me and which I also love). This is a perfect Chanel No 5 for summer...not too strong as to be headache inducing, but persistent enough to be enjoyed all day. I'd say L'Eau is more of a wear to bed scent as it's a "barely there smell" to my nose (I never used to wear fragrance to bed but once I heard others talk about doing it I figured why not?). Then classic No 5 can be enjoyed through all of the colder months. As for the most recent Eau Premiere, I'd like to get a sample and see if it's worth picking up as well, or if the changes are too minimal.

Edit: I layered Rose Jam body spray by Lush under Eau Premiere today and Oh my God! I am floating. It's just heavenly. They work together perfectly and seamlessly. I am in a lemony rose garden!

I found this version (5oz) for a great price on ebay, and went for it. I have No. 5 in vintage cologne, modern EDP, modern EDT (magnetic cap) but I never sniffed any of the "flankers" and my first impression is citrus powder vanilla. If you blindfolded me and I sniffed this-- I would call it a Shalimar flanker like Eau de Shalimar or Shalimar Souffle (or even the pink Shal cologne). It's not very No. 5 to me.

It's not very potent so far, but I guess that is why the bottle is so big. ;)

I miss the soapy aldehydes of Classic No. 5. I can't really find them in Premiere.

This is still a win, an easily likable fragrance. Easy to wear, not cloying, soft yet personal/nice sillage. (I sprayed on fabric because nothing seems to last on my skin). It's like you mixed the EDT of No. 5 with Shalimar Souffle.

As it dries, it seems to mesh into familiar No 5 territory. I do like this, but not more than the original No. 5-- the vintage cologne being my fave because I love musky skanky vintage smells. ;)
In the "grand scheme of things" (aka- my collection) this is kinda basic.

To Mr.Viking:

150ml

Mr Viking

I LOVE the 2007 version
The 2015 version is much more mainstream and unrefined, i am afraid.
I would LOVE to buy the 2007 version again, but I seem to have a great deal of problems remembering how many ml the original bottle contained.
I tried the slender bottle containing 60 ml, and was disappointed by it, thinking that this must be the 2015 version or af knock-off.
PLEASE HELP ME.
UPDATE:
I bought a 75 ml of the 2007 version, so now I am really happy. OMG it smells amazing.

redskyatnight

The lemon chiffon No. 5!

Starts off aldehyde-heavy, but fading after 30 minutes or so. There remains the coziest lemon, vanilla, white musk, and neroli close to the skin. Moderately long-lasting (8 hours, maybe more), with light sillage. This is my favorite to overspray, leaving a laundry fresh + vanilla pastry breeze in the room and just enough sillage with 5-6 sprays. I also have a newer bottle and find no difference between the two, except that my older bottle is getting a nail-polish smell, so I'll use it up first.

KDJ

Just recently I was able to acquire the original slender bottle of Eau Premiere.
I also have the recent formulation as well, in the normal square bottle.
I wanted to do a comparison between both of them!

Similarities include the floral accord and bright opening.

Differences:

The original slender bottle tends to dry down with a more bitter and soapy quality that is really smooth. The opening has a fresh lemony quality to it.

The new version dries down with more vanilla, and is a bit sweeter. The opening has a lemon cake/batter creamy quality to it.

Overall, I'm liking the slender bottle just a little more, as I found the sweetness in the newer version a little too cloying. However, both smell really good!

UPDATE:
I noticed with the original, it does start out softer than the current one, but over time, it intensifies, while the current one slowly fades away.

Also, the original formulation is giving me close resemblance of the dry down of the No. 5 Body Cream with the more pronounced sandalwood. I don't recognize this with the newer version.

LindaPerfume93

I just purchased a HUGE 150ml bottle... I was lucky to buy it half the price from someone who received this beauty as a gift.

I love the original Chanel 5°...but at my age I don´t feel like wearing it. I would feel like a wanna be. This is a lighter, fresher version of the classic. The notes are perfectly balanced... beautiful. The sillage is also fine. I have received compliments mainly from older men when wearing it. They find this fragrance alluring.

lisieux

I like Chanel No. 5 but wanted something a little different. I tried Chanel l'eau and really liked it but wanted something a little stronger and longer lasting. I was lucky enough to get one of the tall bottles of Eau Premiere and it is perfect! Aldehydes, neroli, jasmine, ylang ylang, and iris come through for me, and the drydown is softly powdery. Gorgeous!

ceram

I made the mistake of test spraying the 2015 formulation (in the short bottle) and going to a fitness class at my local gym. Since then, I am OBSESSED with the scent and cannot wait until I purchase a bottle. A BIG bottle. The exercise increased my body heat and just radiated the perfume into a gorgeous, (lightly) powdery floral aldehyde cloud that had me huffing for different reasons. I think plenty of reviews do it justice when they say this is an updated, lighter relative of our beloved Chanel No.5, stripping away the "special occasion" feel and making it far more approachable for daily wear.

Despite Eau Premiere's notes giving a soft and feminine imagery, it was right at home in a gym setting without seeming like I was trying too hard to smell good. Bonus was that I felt powerful and graceful taking in the scent as I power-lifted a barbell over my head, lol. .

The only disappointment would be the price-point (Well, yeah it's Chanel, duh). I would love to spray this on before going to the gym, but that seems a barbaric usage for such an elegant fragrance (not to mention wasteful at my extremely modest income level).

Agnesca

I own the version shown in the pictore above. And don't even try to describe it note by note, all of you did it so perfectly:)

This is my pretty-scent. Not really my personality (it's much nicer than me LOL), but the prettiest amog all my perfumes and I would also say, this is the one that is th easiest to get along with for other people. I always get lots of compliment on my scent when I wear this.

cats8398

This is for the latest version. I have no idea what the more "vintage" Premiere smells like but this, for me is just a softer version of the original No5. which is simply to heavy. I was hoping the drydown would change into something light and beautiful like Beige did but I'm at hour 3 and it's No5 light ... still.

Bouquet

This is for the 2007 version in the tall bottle. I bought it, loved the opening, but the dry down at the time seemed too similar to Chanel No. 5, which I don't like. So I put in a drawer (in its box), and would decant it some for friends, but used it infrequently. Recently, I took it out and revisited it; I had a few ml left. I don't know exactly what changed, but I really like it now! The element that bothered me before has smoothed out, and it has a pleasantly clean, somewhat metallic vibe. Who I picture wearing it: A woman in a white cotton blouse, pearl- or diamond stud earrings, Elsa Perretti pendant, hair in a sleek ponytail, crisp cotton pants or a pencil skirt, with unfussy, but well-designed shoes.

sandrajj

By the way, my review below was for the 2007 version in the tall bottle. I have not had a chance to experience the 2015 version in the iconic Chanel short bottle. I've been told they are different formulations.

sandrajj

Very Chanel, of course! I must say, when I wear this one, I get the most compliments - and most unexpected! This frag must leave a very distinctive trail as I walk past...for me, it's simply a delight to be surrounded by such loveliness!

placid

I don't get this one.. soapy and overpowering..gives me headaches. maybe im not sophisticated enough

camden-girl

This is just beautiful, not cloying in any way , one of the few fragrances that is easily for night or day.
Bright shimmering citrusy top notes ,sweet soft mid notes and a softly woodsy / creamy floral dry down, reminds me of UK love heart sweets !
(Though it's not a particularly flowery fragrance.)

Very very CHANEL very very CHIC.

My current favorite as it's just so easy to wear. Excellent for cooling you down and refreshing in summer.

Definitely the most pretty and fluffy fragrance that you still take seriously.

I can't see many people disliking this as it's not a fragrance you need time to get used to, instant LOVE.
I personally can't quite see much resemblance to her famous mother no°5 in edp or parfum , but this newer version is equally lovely with its fresh, transparent, more delicate feel.
The newer version in the squarer bottles is lovely too but this version just tops it :)

A perfume i reach for constantly instead of just looking at it and wondering if i should dust it lol :)
also , my bad , as i love to occasionaly mix or layer this with the edp , dont hit me all at once lol , is it sacrilege ?? my nose thinks not haha : )

10 outa 10 easily !

Coffeerabbit

This is a lighter, younger version of the original Chanel no 5 and is, in my opinion, a master stroke. It smells luxurious, but fresher and less cloying. It's one that can be worn day or night but it does command attention. It tends to be my power dressing perfume. If I have an important meeting, an interview, or am expecting a confrontation at work, I'll wear this. A woman in Chanel No 5 is one with high standards and won't be pushed around.
It is a striking scent, a little sharp in application, but with vanilla notes in there as well.
In terms of longevity this stuff is incredible. If I spray it on myself and then put on a scarf, I can still smell the scent on the cloth even weeks later. On the skin it lasts over 24 hours, so a little goes a long way.
I imagine the wearer as elegant, self assured and a little self indulgent but with a steel core and a good deal of determination.

MrsTefee

I just want to add another review about 5 years later now. This fragrance has become my signature scent and most dear to my heart! Its one of those things where you may try others here and there and dabble into something new for a bit but my heart always belongs to eau premiere! This is just so beautiful. Light woody floral that lingers on the skin in a sweet way.

Im finally close to using up my big bottle of this one and Im actually excited to buy a huge bottle of eau premiere in the new square shape bottle..I have tested the 'new' version from 2015 and they really are the same. I do like the looks of the square, classic bottles better anyway.

Love this so much <3

AnitaHendricks

There are so many versions! This is the third one I tried. The original is the riches in my opinion. It's my signature scent but it's quite heavy too in casual, warm weather situations. The L'Eau version has more citrus notes. I love it during summer. Eau De Premièr would be more appropriate during fall or spring. It's more powdery in a clean way. It's not as fresh and modern as L'Eau and not as sensual and classic as the original. This perfume really falls between those two. I like it! It's a wonderful perfume on it's own.

KatieAC

Eau Premiere opens with a shimmery veil of effervescent aldehydes that is typical of so many Chanel perfumes. It then dries down to a classy, bright and clean floral bouquet that lays very soft on the skin and has nice sillage.
Regarding reformulation.....in comparing the two samples I have, one is the original from before 2015 and the other recent, I find that the original is slightly sweeter and powdery with a more pronounced iris at the heart and in the drydown. The newer version reminds me more of the original Chanel #5 with more sandalwood apparent in the drydown. They do smell very similar but are certainly different. I would compare their similarities to twins that are fraternal, not identical. They are both beautiful, but one of them (the latest version of Eau premiere) is a little more like mom.
If I had to choose between the formulations, I would have a hard time picking. Both are beautiful, classy, and typical Chanel fragrances through and through. You can't really go wrong with either.

LanaD

Every night I spray it before I'm going to bed. I just love it, very similar to a 5 L'eau. Sometimes I'm layer it with the original 5.

perfummm

Eau premiere lasts longer on the skin then Chanel no. 5 EDP & EDT. It resembles the EDP a lot as the EDT dries down much sweeter (which I prefer). I don't understand why this one lasts 2 days on my skin and the no. 5 EDP & EDT only last an hour!

nordhaul

I didn't expect to like this, but it was LOVE at first sniff!!!

Soofiya

It's a big day in my life.my first day with Chanel n5 premiere
It's been weeks that I'm thinking of it and reading it's reviews.I couldn't find it for trying but I found a 150 mil tester bottle of pre reformulation no 5 premiere for a good price(according to overall Chanel prices)and I couldn't stop dreaming about it.finally I convinced my mom that she needs a Chanel in her life.she gave me money to buy it for her and I rushed to shaghayegh to take this darling home.last night I slept with a bottle of premiere near my pillow.what a lovely night
I have never tried Chanel five or new premiere so I can't compare them.I was always afraid of animalic notes of number five so I couldn't even think of blind buying it
Premiere was all what I had expected and even more.fellow fragrantican reviews describe it very well so I knew what I'm going to face.it opens with a bright, fizzy lemony aldehyde.for someone like me who really knows nothing about Chanels and aldehydic fragrances it was kind of strange and interesting. It was like champagne and also clean and lemony in a good way(I'm not a citrus fan).it's fizzy quality calms down as it's floral heart starts blooming
I can say there are lots of lovely floral notes in it but I can't say it's a very floral scent. It doesn't smell like a garden or like a flower shop.notes are so well blended that you won't smell like a specific flower.I can feel neroli, ylanylang, jasmine and something like iris in it.they're not heady or sharp or over powering.they stay soft and pretty all through it's development. I can't detect dramatic changes in notes.it just becomes a tad warmer, softer and more creamy thanks to sandalwood, vanilla and musk.base notes aren't heavy and none of them tries to over power other notes, they're just there to ground other notes and provide a creamy base for light, clean flowers. It's a love for me from first second of spraying til there's a shadow of it's delicate clean scent lingering on my skin after hours.I see it as pure perfection.it's timeless, ageless, clean, classy, calming and charming.smells light and simple and lovely at the same time expensive and is effortlessly beautiful. Typically I love heavy perfumes and sillage monsters but premiere isn't showy even a bit.it's soft feminine charm makes it mesmerizing and enchanting
Will edit to add about it's longevity but sillage is soft to moderate
I don't know how I'm going to say goodbye to this beautiful babe and give it to my mom
Edit:
I'm the luckiest girl in the world!
My kind, lovely mom tried it and liked it a lot but when she saw how much I adore premier, gifted it to me and asked me to decant 20mil for her.I can't believe it's going to be mine forever.
I believe there's something common in all chanels(at least the ones I know) .they're all very well blended, clean and classy and are proofs for this fact:simplicity is beauty.chanel no 5 premier is really soft so if you wanna turn heads even before entering a room it won't do it for you but if you want to mesmerize people who are close enough to enter your personal area,it's a great choice.it opens like a seven up,fizzy and lemony and dries down to a subtle and clean woody-vanilla-floral.beautiful.longevity is all day long on my skin but sillage never passes moderate and this makes it highly versatile.it's wearable year round but shines best in Springs
I had the opportunity of test new version of premier, ofcourse not a detailed and good test so I need further tests to really discover it's development.I Find pre and post reformulation premier very similar just that the new version is less lemony. I liked that one too

laurniko

I have the giant tall bottle of this - the 150 ml. I really like it! I can't get into the original no 5 - to sharp and floral for me. This is soft, and soapy, and I love the dry down. However, it doesn't seem to last for very long. Maybe that why the giant bottles go for only about $100? Because you sure have to use a lot for it to show up, but the bottle is GORGEOUS, and classic, and I love to stare at it. It's a little boring for me - very soft, very classy, does not make a huge statement. It sort of smells like My Sin without the civet. To me it's a skin scent, not too much projection. I put this on an hour before I had to go to a barre class and was worried I would clear out the room if it heated up too much with me sweating, but I could barely smell it. This is an EXCELLENT summer scent to wear to work, weddings, and when the temp is soaring. It's never overpowering, and always subtle. A good entry to Chanel, I'd say. I would also say this is a better buy than the no 5 L'Eau. I LOVE LOVE L'Eau but got this because it is similar, but it lasts longer and is not so expensive. The L'Eau only lasted a few minutes on my skin, and both variations have the O.G. no 5 bones, but they're wearing lace babydoll dresses instead of Chanel power blazers.

Angeldaisy

found a tall bottle on eBay.
unexpected love at first sniff.
having tried the one in the classic Chanel bottle last Winter - it smelt like musky vanilla to me, a bit fusty and fluffy and of little interest to me that day. I couldn't particularly feel the iris in that one and it faded to nothing within the hour.

this is an incredibly made perfume. I have a vintage Chanel No.5 EDT and she is one sassy broad. This isn't a modernised version of her, as modern to me shrieks fruity floral or wallops of vanilla or vats of sweet patchouli. EP is still as sophisticated as her Grandma, she truly is.

citrus top notes, aldehydes a l'original and no.22. neroli.
love the Chanel aldehydes.
such beautiful sweet iris. soft adorable Chanel iris, with rose and Ylang.
clean green soapy creamy gorgeousness.
dries down together with woods and greens. she wafts up hints of my Mum (she wears No.5 a lot). and the dry down hints also to me that of L'apres l'ondee. swoon.

an unexpected pleasure after a week of Chanel wearing. 28 La Pausa and THAT iris. yesterday was No.18. bliss. heavenly.

Chanel make some very beautiful perfumes and this is one of them.

I have read a lot of comments about the type of person who might wear this from only young girls, to ladies in the boardroom. I am neither of those and it suits me, a slightly dishevelled busy Mum who lives in a small town in the English Lakes. I think anyone can wear this delightful perfume. it is timeless, ageless and not just for ladies.

ElleNell

Chanel no5 PREMEIER is pure CLASS in a bottle. It is airy, a bit powdery, musky, clean, fresh but very sophisticated!! Almost a skin like quality to it. Very feminine. Good lasting power. Two spritz is more than enough. Subtle yet strong. My fave of all the chanel perfumes. Defo underrated. A very CLASSY, CLASSIC perfume xoxo

lisa.stanford

When I heard that Chanel was introducing a new fragrance that was a "lighter" version of No. 5, I was a little worried. Chanel No. 5 has been my favourite fragrance since I was 16 years old, and was given a bottle of the Eau de Cologne for my birthday. Why on earth would you attempt to re-tool it? Then I tested it, walked around for some time and feel in love all over again. It is, and it isn't, Chanel No. 5 Light. For me, it is a lighter in spirit fragrance, joyous and happy. The florals are perfectly harmonious, and not overpowering at all. On me, it smells powdery but with a citrus twist, fresh and new. I wear it mostly during the day or at night in the Summer. It stays fresh and true (or is linear) for hours. I have the early version of this fragrance and, after reading reviews of the newer version, will stick with this one. I tend to prefer heavier fragrances in general, but this one simply makes me smile!

So I won a bottle and wore it around Christmas and yes I received compliments !!!. It exceeded my expectations especially as it was a blind buy and i'm glad that I took a leap of faith and got it. Now on to the fragrance.

If i'm honest I find it so well blended that I find it hard to pick out individual notes which are listed as rose absolute, jasmine, neroli and ylang-ylang. These are some of my most favorite florals and I do own other fragrances with these in them but Eau Premiere is in a class of it's own.

Shadow_Witch

My bottle is a 100 ml bottle and it looks exactly like the 2015 except that.... I purchased it in Canada in 2014 and the batch code confirms it was produced 2014-06. It opens with a blast of aldehydes, vetiver and tons of fizz. Thirty minutes later it has settled into a smooth almost cool, creamy powder floral vanilla and I cannot detect any musk in it whatsoever. Eau Premiere is not even remotely from the same universe as my vintage Chanel No.5 loaded with nitromusks. However, there is an echo of the original in it. There is no mistaking she is the original's great-granddaughter. It is inoffensive but not without charm. I feel it suits women and men of all ages. Almost no sillage after thirty minutes. Close to the skin moderate longevity.

TexBex

Comforting, strong, rosy, old timey, aldehydic, ladylike, the smell of romantic love, or the hope to find it. The closest thing I have to a signature scent, I guess, one third remains. I haven't committed to a single scent yet.

amywamywoo

The opening reminded me of lemon sherbet sweeties, all fizzy and powdery. This scent really is the perfect update while still remaining faithful to the original. It's easy to wear, soft, fresh and musky.
Moderate longevity, soft sillage.

*Review is for the pre reform version*

witchbaby777

Have you ever accidentally dispensed too much baby powder where a cloud of soft scented talc goes into your lungs? That's what this scent does for me.
This and Angel are the only fragrances that have ever made me physically ill to smell. Take that as you'd like.

mutatismutandis

What a gorgeous perfume this was and what a great shame Chanel felt the urge to reformulate it in 2015. It is delightfully sophisticated and charming. The vanilla in the base gave it an overall effect of being a more youthful version of No.5. It's somewhere between Miss Dior and Chanel No.5. The balance of the floral notes and the aldehydes is just right. Eau Premiere feels soft and pleasant to be around. It's very feminine and a touch romantic rather than sexy. The rose and jasmine notes blend well with a touch of sandalwood in the base as the perfume evolves on the skin.

ElleNell

This is a sophisticated, classy scent. It's a bit powdery which is a very good thing. Clean and fresh. For an elegant, classic women or girl. Love it.

Halvah

Dear Ladies,

would you please help me? I truly love Chanel No5 Eau Premiere that comes in the large (150 ml) tall bottle, but it's not easy to fin it in my country anymore. I never tried the new (2015?) Eau Premiere but read that it changed quite a lot. My question is, if I can not get the "old" EP in the tall bottle, which version is the closest to it: "new" EP (2015), or classic No5 edt, or classic No5 edp?

It may be important that in my EP I love the light powdery drydown, and the touch of lemony freshness at the beginning most, that is what I'm looking for.

Thank you so much for your advice and help!

Queen of Taj

I have a full bottle of it. Just sprayed a few times. Anyone interested to buy or exchange please get in touch with me.

At the age of 23, Chanel no 5 was given to me as a present. Ever since that day I always had a bottle of Chanel no 5 Eau de Parfum in my closet. Over the years I collected more perfumes and did not wear Chanel no 5 as often as I did before.... until a lady in the perfume store let me try the Chanel no 5 Eau Première. I instantly fel in love with this beautiful, sparkling, fresh, lighter version of Chanel no 5. It is more wearable for during the day. No 5 is warmer and deeper and therefore more suitable for colder weather or the evening. I wondered why I neglected such a beautiful Perfume and instantly bought a new and fresh bottle of no 5 as well as a new bottle of the Eau Première. Eau Première is the most favourite and precious scent I own. So delightful, so breathtaking! I am still thankful for having discovered Eau Première.

ZiZu

Why, oh why has Chanel reformulated this masterpiece? The newest version is so blunt, it has no spunk. Luckily I have some reserve that will last me for quite long but I was sad to see this beauty go.

perfumeaddiction

I had a bottle of this from when it first came out around 2007. It was instant love. While it does smell close to the orginal #5, it's different. I could not wear the original. I did love this scent it was beautiful and somehow I think I gifted the bottle to a friend because I did not wear it much. I wish I had it back it was beautiful. I am tempted to purchase another bottle but I fear reformulation? This was and hopefully still is a beautiful perfume.

twoteacakes

The opening of this fragrance is like sticking your nose into a bag of sherbet lemon candies. It is lovely; creamy, citrusy, fizzy and slightly sweet. I cant pick out specific floral notes as they are very well blended, but the vanilla sandalwood dry down is just heaven for a sandalwood lover like me. It is soft and lovely, but for me the sillage is just a little soft, I wish it would project more. I am a serial under-sprayer but with this I have to spritz a good 8-10 sprays on me just to be able to detect it's there. It lasts reasonably well, better on clothes I find. Despite these negatives, this has become my signature, I just can't get enough of it.

Lalionne

A very large bottle of this fragrance was gifted to me when my aunt died about 5 years ago. She had not used it yet (now it's the only bottle I own with more than 100 ml). For several reasons, I was not very eager to try it right away. But today I just did. Much to my surprise I find it gorgeous, also on my skin. Like others state below, the original No. 5 does not work well on my skin. But this one does! It is classic and modern at the same time. Unlike the original, this scent is office-safe, so I guess I will be wearing it a lot from now on. The projection is good, longevity is moderate: several hours.

Shadow_Witch

I love the EDT and parfum. I really wanted to love Eau Premiere. I have been wanting a bottle for a year at least. I finally picked one up on bonus redemption day at SDM.

I love this bright, sunny version of No.5.

I felt it was perfect for the warmer months except that $150CAD for 100ml is outrageous for a fragrance that lasts less than an hour on my skin, hair, and clothes. It is as short-lived as my vintage No.5 Cologne but less interesting. I'm sure I will use it up because it doesn't last but, I will not replace it when I do. I feel it was a waste of the SDM points I redeemed to purchase it.

My experience was an utter disappointment. 4-5 sprays and it was completely gone in an hour! Not even a trace left.

jana.hullinghorst

My new favorite. Love at first sniff. The Holy Grail of all that is Chanel No 5 but eau premier offers a fresh and modern feeling the original doesn't have. Original No 5 never worked for me, and I'm so happy to have found this little treasure. On my skin this is sandalwood heavy after the aldehydes settle down. Warm and woody, with a trail of beautiful rose and jasmine on the edges. So elegant and sophisticated. I find it holds better on skin than on clothing, very easy to wear in the heat, and is strong enough to wear in the cold months as well.. a true signature scent.

Eos

I'm a fan of Chanel No5 Eau Premiere. I just wish that its existence would help mitigate the constant reformulation of the original No5. This scent is meant to attract a modern audience and is calibrated towards the tastes of today's younger consumers. It's supposed to be No5 for millenials.

In a lot of ways, I think Chanel has succeeded in achieving that goal. Eau Premiere smells a lot like a slimmed down version of No5. Most of the more sensual and animalic components have been stripped out of this version. What's left is citric, softly floral, warm musky, and aldehydic. The sweetness has been intensified, but even still, this is not a sweet perfume. The result is a refined, beautiful, modern, powdery scent that feels simultaneously minimalistically chic and indulgent. A new modern classic.

kikinha

I bought the new square bottle and I am not sure why. I don't really love this fragrance, but I guess it's just good to smell expensive sometimes? lol For those nights when you dress up. I would not wear this fragrance with jeans or casual clothes, it just does not match

Edee

This smells really good, and I do mean really good. It resembles No 5, but not. It is like No 5 got mixed with the fountain of youth and came back younger, more fresh and vibrant. Like her younger sister. It has a slight powdery feeling to it that does not in anyway distract from the beautifully blended ingredients. They are blended very well, yet I can smell each. It smells elegant, pretty and just outright good. I repeat it smells really good. I had tried samples from magazines and wondered if it would smell as good on my skin from the spray bottle as it did from the sample in the magazine. It smells better. Going to enjoy this one.

Longevity is good: 6-8 hours
Silage: About 1 to 2 feet. People who pass by you within that range will smell this beautiful scent as will people who come up to talk to you. Or those who you pass by (within 1 to 2 feet).

Lovely, lovely perfume. I especially like that I smell more flowers and there is an added sweetness that the original did not have. It is not in your face sweetness. The fragrance hovers in the background. It lets you know it is there but it does not shout at you nor become cloying.

RosieRachel

I keep persisting with Chanel perfumes for one simple reason: they work well with my chemistry. The Eau Premiere has a wonderfully classical feel to it, as a modern woman's Chanel that smells sophisticated and elegant.

On my skin, Eau Premiere embodies the beautiful, familiar and creamy-woodsy aspects of the dry-down of Chanel No. 5. The aldehydes add a tiny bit of sparkle and it's very cozy and comforting. The dry-down of this particular perfume is ultra soft, powdery and light.

Sillage was soft to moderate; longevity is for about 6-7 hours. This fragrance would blossom beautifully in the heat, as sillage was much better when I exposed my skin to some sunshine :)

x-x-x-ANGEL-x-x-x

This is pure heaven, my sample arrived today and as soon as I recieved it put it on. Straight away Eau Premiere blew me away, it's sweet but not too sweet, mature but at the time same time not too mature. As it fades on the skin, I get a strange but lovely toffee scent to it.

Like No5's younger sister. Definitely added this beauty to my list of must buys.

Jenge

Just heavenly! I hadn't given Eau Premiere a second glance because I saw "No 5", and kept walking. Thanks to the reviews here, I decided to test it. It wasn't love at first try, but a few encounters later, I was hooked.

So feminine and light! Powdery, creamy florals floating on an aldehydic cloud! I do get more lemon from the tall bottle, and it comes & goes as it dries down. In the very end I smell some soft vanilla reminiscent of the very last traces of Shalimar. The newer square bottle isn't too different to me, just more floral, overall. I think the flowers blend into a beautiful bouquet and I don't smell any heavy rose or jasmine (thankfully).

This has become one of my favorite perfumes of late, and I'm loving it in the springtime! It feels effortlessly classy. So glad I have it, better late than never!

I love Chanel n. 5 EDP. Eau Premiere is pretty amzazing as well. Not sure which one I like best. It's a more stripped down version of the original. Take out the amber and civet, let the floral and powdery notes take charge, and voilá. The result is a perfume that isn't as opulent and rich as the original, but comparitively very airy and clean and easy to wear, while still retaining the romantic aura of the original.

LuLuGoes

Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere is so sparkling and full of sunlight, I can't believe it's so dominated by flowers. I'm a longtime fan of Chanel No 5 both EDP and EDT (never have tried the pure parfum, but I hear it's an experience). So I knew I'd adore this version. I was right.

Blushing rose, that exclusive and alluring Chanel jasmine, a layer of ylang-ylang and neroli resting in the middle like a sheet of white silk. Fragrantica lists vanilla in the notes. Yes, but it's a different kind of vanilla, a powdery vanilla adrift in a garden of fresh florals, and it's very subtle.

Another site lists the notes this way: Neroli, May rose, Iris, Jasmine, Ylang ylang, Amber, Vetiver, Sandalwood, White musk, Vanilla.

I wouldn't have guessed musk or vetiver. But maybe it is hidden in Eau Premiere working its synergistic magic.

I don't think the original Chanel No 5 needed a flanker. I think of Eau Premiere as a modern tribute to a true classic. I feel like a butterfly magnet when I wear this. LOVE LOVE LOVE

winikrose

Can a scent be too beautiful to wear? I wouldn't have thought so but after finding Chanel 5 Premier? Sparkling fizzy lemon/ peaches, very perfumey and glaringly beautiful. For elves? Royalty? Lol I wear it anyway once in awhile and a little self-consciously

rschmidt65

Simply sublime! I'm so glad I overlooked the name, followed the advice of my fellow Fragranticians and gave this one a try. I can't imagine why this sweet tempered beauty was launched into the world in the shadow of her older relative - marketing, I'll never understand you.
This is not a real flanker. Yes it shares the typical Chanel bone structure with no 5 - the plush cloud of aldehydes and powder. But to me it more closely resembles Bois des Iles. It's lemon sorbet to Bois des Iles gingerbread. It deserves it's own name. Limonata or something.
The only problem is, I can't decide which Chanel I'm saving up for now, Eau Premiere, Coromandel or Bois des Iles.

~ As I finish my tour of ladies Chanel samples from the comfort of my own home this one greeted me with a very friendly bright aldehyde/lemony opening that calmed down quickly on my dry male skin. It reminded me of a more floral opening of the mens Pour Monsiuer Homme. As I sit here the dry down I get is a classy, clean rose and subtle vanilla that just keeps evoking in me the image of an intellectual type modern woman in an office or boardroom setting? It does seem to sit closer to the skin than the sweeter coco's I've tried with almost a transparent sillage. I have never smelled the original No5 on a woman but if this version is even remotely similar the original must surely be very elegant? I would very much respect a woman's taste in fragrance that wore Eau Premiere as it is unmistakeably all Chanel DNA and another Polge masterpiece.
Kind Regards, Plat ~

This has a hint of the original but is altogether a different fragrance. I love how it gets sweeter and lighter as it matures, while maintaining an undercurrent of old-fashioned class. Also, it's got the same sort of "sparkliness" that's in Lancome's La Vie est Belle, but with far less sugar. My mum said that it reminded her of Flowerbomb, but I don't see the resemblence.

Addict2Perfume

Chanel N°5 Eau Premiere is beautiful and extremely classy! My review is on the original Eau Premiere in the tall bottle. When I smelled the new bottle of Eau Premiere I could tell there was a difference and I believe it is because they made the ylang ylang note more prominent. As a ylang-ylang lover I liked the reformulation, but Chanel quality aldehydes are gorgeous and I love the sparkling top notes of the aldehydes in Eau Premiere, so I went out and snatched up a 5oz bottle of the original before it was gone! Along with the aldehyde top notes I get a powdery sweet ylang-ylang, that softens to a lush rose with a hit of jasmine, then finally drys down to a gentle touch of neroli, vanilla, and sandalwood. The powdery scent of the ylang-ylang last throughout the life of the fragrance and I think the vetyver gives it a smooth base. Such a lovely fragrance, Eau Premiere is without a doubt a favorite!

mvd99

Echoing other's thoughts, this is a much more airy yet sophisticated interpretation of the original. The original was quite a scent bomb and just way too much for me, my skin turned it into something way more "mature" than what I wanted it to project. All the things I didn't like about the original (hello....CIVET) are absent here. I am only sorry it took me so long to discover it.

Feli15

Absolute elegance and femininity. Soft, airy, modern and wearable version of the classic. Any time, any season. It always feels appropriate for any occasion, which is a rare quality to find in a perfume.

aliora

For those who are wondering, it's definitely a new formulation in the square bottle. The original Eau Premiere that came out in 2007 features a long bottle with a bit more lemon. It's also more delicate, softer, and there's a nice fizziness to it. But the lemon is the biggest difference between the two formulations. The new one (in the square bottle) barely has any lemon in it and smells more like an updated version of the EDT instead...actually it's much closer to the EDT than anything else. I think I might also say that it's a touch more floral. Overall, I like the new formulation better since it's closer to my taste, but the old formulation was unique even though it was a flanker.

Smellyfaerie

Let’s start by making things clear: Chanel n.5 Eau Premiere is neither a different concentration of the classic Chanel n.5, neither a flanker. It is a new scent on its own which, even though retains some aspects from the classic, revisits and updates it. Now, the purists should be asking if the most famous perfume in the world needed an update. Needed? Well, probably not. Deserved? Yes, for sure.

Anyway, the classic Chanel n.5 can be too much for some people, in aldehydes, in powder, in sobriety. To me, as much as I love it, is a chain sneeze inducer. And it’s not causal enough or even appropriate for the summer heat. It may be hard to pull off, regardless each ones reasons, but this is an Eau Premiere review, so let’s move on.

To me, Chanel n. 5 Eau Premiere is a more “wearable” version of the classic. I don’t know if the reason for its launching was to appeal to the younger consumer, who might find the classic too “dated” or if it was to please people who, like me, admire the beauty of Chanel n.5 from the distance, because they can’t wear it.

Both fragrances share the same notes core: aldehydes, neroli, bergamot, lemon, ylang-ylang, rose, jasmine, lily of the valley, iris, vetiver, sandalwood, patchouli, vanilla and amber. It’s the proportion in which each note is used that makes all the difference. The Chanel n.5 DNA is there, but this is definitely a new scent.

Eau Premiere starts off with more citrus and a bit of soapiness, instead of the sneeze inducing aldehydes from its predecessor, and dries down to a bright and sparkling floral, with a hint of woods (these more along the lines of Bois des Iles). This results in a delicate, smooth and lighthearted fragrance, without any rough edges. It is definitely feminine, elegant and not as uptight as Chanel n.5.

The silage is moderate to big, in the end, it all depends on how much you spritz and I see it as a fragrance that can be worn all year round. The longevity is sub-optimal in warm weather, which is a shame, since this one really blooms in the summer.

One last word: this review is on the longer bottle, as shown in the database picture, I recently sampled some Eau Premiere from the new bottle design (square, I guess) and it feels like there is something missing. If you can still snag a bottle that looks like the one in the picture, go for it.

Kiku

Eau Premiere? Obviously a flanker -- but what an improvement over the original No 5. I thought this would be the typical flanker: a loud, berried up version of the mother ship. Surprize! Eau Premiere is it's own perfume. It could stand alone. It is highly reminiscent of vintage Chantilly by Houbigant. Those lucky enough to have experienced vintage Chantilly go into rapture over it, for it was one of the most seductive perfumes ever created. A blend of citrus and warm dusty spices with Houbigant's signature: a rich creaminess that managed to be powdery at the same time. Eau Premiere captures this almost exactly. Chanel should have had more faith in this little wonder and given it it'sown name and identity It's too good to be in the shadow of it's bland predecessor.

alex-kostas

chanel couldn t be better than this ! no5 reminds me of an old lady sitting all day in the church .. this edition shakes down my theory... chic classy elegant with a sence of j&j baby powder left on your skin at the end of your day or in the start of an amazing night !

LadyPilot

Amazing, wearable version of Chanel 5 at last! The amount of aldehydes is reasonable, unlike in the original, no or hardly any civet - all that I love about Chanel 5 is here! All that I hate about it - is not here:-)

PerfumeKing14

I have this version & the new version in the classic bottle. Why isn't there a different page for both as they are obviously different fragrances? This version reminds me of how Chanel No.5 used to smell years ago, the new version however is softer & much more wearable for anyone.

PREMIERE
I find Premiere to be the perfect update of chanel #5 , unlike some other updates or flankers , Premiere has been done beautifully , soft, powdery and elegant. Liked by all , even the ones that weren't particularly fond of Chanel 5 !
Premiere is more transparent and perhaps more floral. More fluffy, a powdery , sweet delight , childish yet elegant , playful yet grown up , can take you from home to the playground with your kids , out to the pup or dinner later. Ultimately versatile , made for every woman , the casual and the elegant , the business woman and the stay@ home mom.

Premiere is a cozy, more casual version of the iconic #5 , the first spray to me is like a lemon meringue cake , then it becomes quickly more floral, iris and rose and powdery , nice woody vanilla dry down. Over all it remains a clean soapy smell, fresh but warm and cozy. Much like the original, but softer and more modern.
You can absolutely wear it anywhere , anytime ! I love that about a perfume, it's extremely versatile. You get your money's worth !

hippiechick13

What a spectacular interpretation of a masterful, elegant favourite. To re-do a timeless classic effortlessly and successfully is quite the feat.

The lightness of this fragrance with the subtle vanilla is extremely enjoyable. The whole appeal is wonderful and comfortable and tremendously appealing. The wearability of Premiere is probably better for some people who find the original too old school, too iris, too strong, as I've heard some say. I love the original, but this is probably a bit more modern, easy and chic in a contemporary sense. It's longevity is excellent, but I find this with all Chanel perfumes I wear - ranging from this, to the original, Coco and Allure.

This is a great way to move into a classic perfume without feeling overpowered or that the effect is too vintage or sweet. I must emphasise that the vanilla has been used skilfully here.

maddy.tan18

I am just gonna sum it up in a simple sentence : "This scent is simply beautiful & posh, and I love it wholeheartedly."

What's NOT to like? :D

I had given up on newer fragrances from the house of Chanel, until this winner came into my life.

EP Release 2014: Really amazing! I have a big luck with all CHANEL perfumes, they stay forever on my skin. This one as well. Much more similar to the original EDP than the previous vesrion, which i found too cloying and aggresive. The 2014 formula is alluring, warm, woody, powdery with a hint of citrus giving a fresh feel for a whole time. makes me just feel happy and self-confident while wearing it. I´m thinking about purchasing the whole bottle, though the price is enormous.

ellina1984

I never got the hype about No. 5. Too soapy, too aldehydic, too citric. So when I read that Eau Premiere was for those that couldn't take the original, I blind bought a bottle.

This smells like a pitcher of sangria would if it was made with white fizzy wine. There's a definite effervescent quality, and I get all sorts of chopped up citrusus floating in the wine, giving it bite and making it interesting.
The smell is unlike anything I've ever experienced before, it crosses the line into bitterness sometimes, and that brings to mind the zest and juice of grapefruits, and their characteristic bitterness.

After a long time, I get an indefinite rose and a soapiness.

As a scent it's transparent, clear and clean at the same time. But it's not devoid of body and substance. It's feminine and soft, and an adult scent for sure. Very appropriate for business environments, but also for a cocktail, or a nice dinner.
I usually don't like clothing images paired with a fragrance, but this could be cigarette pants cut above the ankle, silk blouse, long pendant, high heels (but not sky-high!) and hair pulled back.

EDIT: Germany below has said this smells like a lemon meringue pie. And, indeed, I now get the vanilla along with the fizziness and citrus, and it does smell like a lemon meringue pie, sweet and slightly tart at the same time, spiked with vanilla.

risarii

I just tested the apparently reformulated version. While it's still good, it's missing the glorious fizzy-icy-fresh (lemon?) burst in the top note that I so adored. The original EP was like fine champagne and was distinctive from the EDP and EDT, where as the current one doesn't smell much different from the EDP. Perhaps a bit lighter than the regular EDP, but not the lovely iced champagne it once was. Such a shame.

mrjohn12

This has quickly wrangled it's way up to my top 5. It's the first one I'll be getting out of this and the Tom Ford Orchids, I just love it!

First, the original Chanel No.5. I've always wanted to like it because of its history, but always found it a bit too soapy/powdery. I couldn't get past the kind of...poopie smell it turned into on my wrist. I reluctantly tried this one at the insistence of a sales associate and was at first just surprised. It was nice.

Fast forward to now, I think this stuff has crack in it. It is my morning goal to breathe more of this than oxygen itself. It's sparkley at first... The aldehydes mix with the Neroli and Ylang Ylang in such away that it becomes playful. Then it's soft, sweet, feminine, refined, and I thought, this has become my skin, no one can smell this! And then 3 guys have told me I smell great. But it's the great that they want to follow, not the great that you leave behind and it stinks the place up. It's the great that my boyfriend nuzzles into as he says, "Please buy this one and wear it always." And I will...

Antares811

@ChampagneHo: Old version, tall bottle, the one in the pic above. Reformulated version, classic Chanel bottle. I think they reformulated it this year.

ChampagneHo

I am lucky to have received a sample of the pre-reform Eau Premiere so that I could compare it to my sample of the new.

Pre-Reform: I have no idea when they reformulated it, but I wish I did so I could track down a bottle. It is gorgeous. As Sayaka's review states, there is a sweet lemony fizzy vibe and it is gorgeous. Behind it is No 5, peeking through all that. Not your modern formulation, but remember how No 5 USED to smell? Without all that skank? Ok, that. It is soft and subdued and stunning.

Post Reform: At the top I get a busy meeting of aldehydes. It's a little messy and I wasn't sure where this was going, but it wasn't going in the same direction as the pre reform. About 30 minutes later I had a brand new baby No 5. You know who the parents are? Vintage No 5 and Calandre. Don't ask, I don't know how those two hooked up, but they did. It's quite nice if you like bold perfumes of the past. However, I would prefer that they go back to the pre reform and I'll just wear my Calandre and Vintage No 5 when I feel like it.

Anyone know what year they reformulated Eau Premiere?

Aysu

I tried new EP in classic square Chanel bottle (and I am fond of original EP in tall bottle). It is obvious that they changed the formula, I found new one definitely stronger, longer lasting. But light and fizzy quality of original EP which turns into lovely ylang ylang/vanilla combination after the dry down has gone.
In this formula, I didn't feel any fizzy/citrusy top notes and scent goes into original No:5 formula territory quickly. And I am not fond of Chanel No:5.
I will miss original EP.

Alexandrarae

I am bewitched...this has to be the most beautiful perfume ever. After trying this lovely fume 2 weeks ago (and purchasing on the spot) I have been unable to leave it alone! It envelopes you in a graceful waltz of lovely flowers, roses, jasmine, orange blossom & ylang ylang and gorgeous vanilla gathers up the bouquet and softens and enhances the lovely drydown. I applied early this morning and can still smell on my wrist at 7pm ...that's 12 hours! The aldehydes are soft (unlike Chanel 5 which I cannot wear). It has made me not want to wear anything else - I have definitely found "The One"!

lcommisso

It is a lighter version of the classic, which is not a compliment in this case, as it has very limited longevity. It does not carry the presence of the original. Disappointing.

Karema

Another Chanel perfume that I adore. The smell is so refreshing, young yet still it has the independent aura. However the longevity is so poor, it only last aroung 45 minutes in mu skin. It just didn't suit the brand and the price.

sherapop

I'm rather baffled as to how I managed since 2009 to review 2400+ perfumes but never this one: Chanel no 5 Eau Première. Very odd. Anyway, when I tried this eau de parfum the other day at Sephora, I was very pleasantly surprised. It reminded me rather of a cross between Chanel no 5 and Prada Infusion d'Iris! Clean and powdery, and with some of the sophistication but none of the pitch of the original no 5. Given that it reminded me immediately of Prada Infusion d'Iris, I obviously also found it rather sweet, unlike the original No 5.

I took a full sample home with me because I definitely wanted to wear this scent again and began writing Eau Première onto my mental wishlist--even though I am supposedly on a long-term perfume buying hiatus...

Tonight I have found the aldehydes much more marked than they were the other day. If I were to identify the best cross it would have to be Chanel no 5 meets Frédéric Malle Iris Poudré. So still a touch sweet but with more of a markedly aldehydic quality. I definitely found tonight's wear considerable less sweet than I did the other day. Which just goes to show that our noses are not objective in any sense when it comes to scents!

I do like Eau Première and would definitely consider acquiring a bottle as I find it quite pleasing. This seems to be of much higher quality than the dreaded mall juice dominating the Sephora wall, which usually ends up depressing me. From now on, for in store spritzing, I'll stick with this or something by Hermès or Prada.

Lilyfey

I'm devastated that they've changed it! Eau Premiere has such an amazing lemony, sparkling opening and smells divine. Its like a cold, sunny winter morning - refreshing, crisp and simply beautiful. I love it to bits and its on my top 5 shelve. When I tried the new, square bottle I quickly realised that something is different. The opening is closer to the edt now and its lacking something. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think it's the lemony vibe i'm missing. The new version is just a shadow of its former self. So sad.

Edit:

I've just read SayakaP's review and its spot on. I totally agree with it. Lets weep together.

tinaelisa

I hoped I would like it but sadly I do not. It has that typical hospital smell to it. A bit sterile and stale... Would not buy or wear it.

Jenniferr

Best scent ever!!! smells like powdery soap and just makes you smell and feel really clean throughout the entire day. i used the use CCM but now i'm all about the EP. the CCM is really confusing to me in regards to it's notes and the scent it developes into when in contact with my skin specially after a few hours. i have also smelled the original C5 however it was way too heavy for me and i just didn't understand it's appeal to people. the CC just didn't smell clean enough to me and the CCN was way too strong despite it's hint of powdery scent. so if you're into really clean and fresh smells then this one is for you.

lairderien

A truly beautiful perfume & as much as I love the original Chanel No 5, this is much more wearable. Both fragrances are sophisticated but EP is much more 'lighthearted' and can be worn easily during the day as well as night. I love the fizzy lemon top note. The aldehydic note isn't as slap in your face as the original No 5, making this much more of a crowd pleaser. Anyone thats tried to like Chanel No 5 but just can't get on with it should try babysteps with EP. My other half HATES Chanel No 5 but LOVES EP? The only downside is the longevity - I find I have to respray several times as it just seems to disappear after a short time (the same with Cristalle Eau Verte) - I notice some other reviews mention the same thing. Haven't tried the new reformulation & hoping they haven't played around with it too much as the original was a thing of beauty.

auroramaria

N5 EP is truly a magnificent fragrance, It is subtle soft and discreet in a very good way.
If you like original N5but find it a bit too much EP is a great alternative.
EP is airy and bright very elegant too but it's also a modern take on N5.
Aldehydes play the main role here together with rose and jasmine.I love the sandalwood in EP.
It gets rather powdery on me.
Longevity is very good

Jose Marcos

I am very sorry, but EP last for days on clothes which doesn't absorb things like skin does, means that it must be someone's skin defect if a scent doesn't last long/longer than 20 minutes. Good thing is, your skin must be perfect to absorb medicine creams.

Chanel No 5 Eau Premire is an almost perfect scent. If only men could be more comfortable wearing it ...

ellaquintero

I just have one thing to complain about. What's wrong with Chanel's longevity (and even quality) of their perfumes?
This is so pretty and changes beautifully on me, but lasts 20 minutes. Not fair for the amount of money these fragrances cost.

DragonflySparrow

I've always adored the original fragrance (Chanel No. 5.) But sadly, that one never quite worked on my skin. :( It always seemed to smell like a pungent, medicinal, syrup-y mess of an "old lady" scent on me, although it was LOVELY on other people. When I wore it, my husband thought it was a "bathroom spray" scent.. terrible. THEN! I found Chanel No.5 EP! It's creamy, soft recollection of it's original counterpart actually smells wonderful on my skin! The scent that I adore in the bottle of the original comes out exactly the same on me through the No.5 EP. Hubby likes it too. :) So, long story short: if you find you cannot (biochemically) wear the original, try this! It's lovely.

Amparo Noir

N°5 EP is magnificent. Everything in N°5 EP is airy, subtle, and demure. Yet, it is powerful as its smell is brighter, and fresher then N°5 EDP which is rather heavy on the florals.

I was lucky to be able to purchase just another bottle of N°5 EP (the 150ml).

Honestly, I do like all Chanel fragrance bottles. I don't know, I just like them all. I like N°5 EDT with its magnetic cap, and I do like the new representation of N°5 EP in a bottle similar to N°5 EDP, but for now, I would rather pay the price for 150ml than 100ml...

SayakaP

Reformulation...
I'm still in shock.

I went to CHANEL counter wearing EP from my (neally empty) tall bottle and found it now comes in the classic bottle. I don't know where I have been.

Anyway, I gave one spray on my wrist ... it was different. That clear, sparkly sweet Lemon was toned down & a bit sweeter. It had more Aldehyde. Not quite as cool / 'high frequency' as No.5 EDP opening, but similar.

The top settled down. I felt the New EP is going fuller and sweeter. This is not how EP I'm familiar with goes...
20 minutes later, strong MUSK kicked in! Gee, what did CHANEL do!?

Maybe, when they were not watching, original EP & No.19 Poudre had an affair & gave birth to New EP ( then the child murederd original EP).
The Muskyness is definitely No.19 Poudre territory.

I adore No.19 Poudre. But I would have screamed if they replaced Poudre to No.19 and pretended nothing had happened.
CHANEL HP still call EP "Decidedly Light". It's not really.
It's not the casual, luminous, breezy, relaxed interpretation of No.5 any more.
Original EP is gone with that tall bottle.... It's so sad.

If you disliked original EP for the Lemony top & love Musk a lot, you might like the new one.

Mrbigbigtoe

I'm 18 and I find that N#5 is a VERY sexy fragrance. However, I would much prefer my wife wear this one to bed than the original. But as far as passing by someone in the mall who happens to be wearing this I don't think you could tell much difference at all. (That's a good thing also)

Tigerlillian

Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere (from the tall bottle) evokes feelings of such languid elegance that's easy yet refined.

With effervescent aldehydes to open and freshly plucked neroli and ylang ylang, Eau Premiere captures the heart with a bright, warm welcome--a confident toss of perfectly groomed shiny hair and a dazzling white smile.

As the fragrance dries down, it remains airy, yet full. Like a heavy liquid satin that floats with ease. The base is woody and sensual--a perfect harmony with the aldehyde, and flirty yet composed, silken ylang ylang.

Pearls with well cut jeans, diamond stud earrings with a crisp white t-shirt, or even the classic little black dress, day or night. Although with different notes, it runs in the same circles as Balenciaga Paris without being quite as aloof. I find this fragrance a versatile Chanel that doesn't compromise on its classic hallmarks. No. 5 Eau Premiere is a modern and gratifying formulation.

Antares811

I didn't know it was reformulated too. I still have my old big bottle and enjoy it! So gorgeous! A perfect, elegant, feminine, powdery floral scent.

Edit: I tried the new bottle version today, it's the same scent, beautiful, classy and powdery, but I'm afraid it lacks lasting power.

InfirmièreParfumée

My possession of Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere was meant to be. I was on a mission to buying my Coco Chanel Noir that day and the Chanel counter at Nordie's was out of stock. Next, I told my lady at the counter that I will then opt for Voyage d'Hermes EDP.

Oh wow, such a fateful day it was. This store had Voyage d'Hermes but the EDT refillable.

Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere didn't need any "bring me a tester bottle and I will come back if I like it". The moment I sprayed a little on my wrist, I melted and smiled.

Who does that?

This fine bottle of Chanel is very unique yet very familiar. As a Chanel fragrance, it is quite different. It is not that intense as the original No. 5, yet it does maintain the No. 5 scent... very sexy and very alluring. It does, however, mixes with some freshness to it, making it a day wear fragrance.

Lovely, lovely, lovely !

TheFrenchMistress

I fell down the perfumista rabbit-hole because of Chanel's N°5 Eau Première. I bought it to wear as something similar to Iris Poudre, but lighter for summer. However, it didn't work that well in warm weather (I've discovered it's far more beautiful on cool, rainy days), so I then carried on investigating scents for summer, and for winter, for day, and evening, and… well, the rest is a history many of you will be familiar with.

Eau Première opens with a striking lemon-sherbet accord, a nose-tingling zestiness combined with a dusting of floral powdered sugar, an olfactory illusion that's distinctive and fun (in a tasteful way of course). As the fizz of the opening settles, the fragrance retains the impression of citrus but gets a little richer, and gradually turns into a lemony jasmine sorbet.

As the base begins to emerge, the composition warms up with a touch of vanilla. A creamy sandalwood comes to the fore, accompanied by a dash of vetiver, and at this point the fragrance calls to mind the amazing Bois des Îles, though here the vetiver is much quieter and the general aura more floral: Eau Première is lemon zest and rose petals to the famous pain d'épices of Bois des Îles, though it has the same sophisticated and addictive warmth in the base. Those looking for the hit of the 'Chanelinade' but who find Bois des Îles a tad too, um, unisex would do well to try this scent.

Eau Première clearly has DNA in common with many of the Chanel greats, but it's far enough removed from N°5 that it's unfair it's considered a flanker because it has enough about it to be a standalone. It's incredibly beautiful, a classic with a modern twist rather than some pretty-pretty, heartless confection. I mostly favour androgynous oriental and woody fragrances, but I find EP very appealing and wear it comfortably. It doesn't make me feel like I'm trapped in a confined space with a teenager doused in the latest mindless fruity floral, as do so many contemporary releases deemed 'feminine'.

Edit: I have just compared the original and new versions, and I find them similar but not identical. The reformulation opens with the same pretty, fizzy aldehydic florals, but there is less of the lemon sherbet. Then the main difference emerges once it's been on skin for a while: the blend of ingredients used to create the sandalwood accord at the heart of the fragrance appears to have been altered, because whereas the original has a characteristic rich, smooth creaminess to it at this stage, the reform has a harsher, oilier note. The overall effect reminds me of the sandalwood / leather / musk combo of Putain des Palaces, and while it suits PdP and I like it there, it seems a fraction out of place in the otherwise refined and seamless EP.

Later, in the extreme drydown, the harshness wears off and the two versions eventually become almost identical, but that isn't until many hours have passed. All in all, the different note in the new version is a dealbreaker for me to the extent that I've now stocked up on the original juice. The difference is probably not, in the grand scheme of things, significant enough to get worked up about, but for those who know and love the original its demise is a real pity.

Dcarlo

Classy, delicious, fresh, amazingly...Number 5.
You can really notice this is the gorgeous and legendary N5, but with its fresh and most delicate notes.
If you always wanted to wear Chanel N5 but it didn't work on you, give EP a try.
You will surely love it.
Begin with Eau Premiere and eventually you will fall in love with N5.
I felt for it why wouldn't you?
After all, its inevitable, its Number 5!

I never cared much for No5 as I found the aldehydes to be very sharp, screech and breezy. In fact, I would go on to say that No5 is very headache inducing on me.

The shame about this perfume, is the fact that it is called No5 at all, as I was very nearly put off trying it, thinking it would be similar to the original.
I was entirely wrong! This perfume is ravishingly beautiful and has awakened my interest in aldehydic perfumes.
The initial spray is more No19 than No5, It seems to take all the most heavenly aromas from the original but leaves behind the sharp unpleasantness associated with No5.
Beautiful rose absolute starts this symphony, followed by the gentlest of jasmine. I find this slightly 'green' which I love, the aldehydes are soft and refined, they don't shout at you, even in the opening.
I get so many shades of Chanel No19 which is probably why I just can't get enough of it!
This delightful scent also reminds me of RP Baghari, especially in the dry down.
Longevity is 6/8 hours and the silage is all enveloping.
This is a stunning olfactory experience, a truly exquisite perfume, elegant, classy and oh so Chanel!!

*originally posted in the forum discussion re: the new Eau Premiere bottle*

I got the new classic bottle a couple of weeks ago but could not find the older, longer bottle anywhere to compare. It's like all the stores are hoarding them away or something. So I complained to my Ma and surprise, surprise, she produced a quarter-full bottle of Eau Premiere circa 2009 from her stash. Um, WHAT? That lady is FULL OF SECRETS! FULL! OF! SECRETS!

Anyways, I conducted a side by side comparison on my forearms last night, and it's true, the new version is longer-lasting, and significantly so. I applied both post-shower around 7pm, and by the time I was getting into bed around midnight, the old one was completely GONE but the new one wasn't even at skinscent stage, it was still quite clear. I have dry skin. However, I could still detect the old one on the sleeve of the gown (silk-satin) I was wearing. So it lasts better on clothes. So there is my PERFORMANCE assessment.

FORMULATION assessment: they're different. I so wanted it to be the same fragrance but it is not. The first spray is identical but they wear differently. The new version is closer to N°5 edt, with the unrelenting aldehydic-musky quality defining the experience. The old sparkles a lot more, with the ylang-ylang coming through even in the top, and the rose making cameo appearances here and there. And there is a sparkly champagne-y quality that is difficult for me to describe, in the old one. I do still get the ylang ylang quite clearly in the new one, but underneath the aldehyde, it doesn't quite "poke through" the aldehyde veil, if you get my meaning. Oh, and more vanilla in the new one. It's slightly, but noticeably, sweeter throughout.

I do really enjoy them both, and maybe the new one even more as I am an admirer of the classic N°5, but I think that lovers of the old one would be disappointed by a full wearing of this new one.

The Swedish girl

I tried this again, and it actually is a nice scent.
Very similar to Prada Iris edp, and Chanel no 19 poudre.
Soft, smooth, cuddly.
It feels veeery light though...

angelayio

I get a lighter No5, with less aldheydes, lots of powder and to my nose something citrusy (a very clear lemon to be more accurate) at the opening. Lovely, lovely fragrance. Probably the only No5 I can wear and feel like myself.

Shwets

MellyHelly i agree that missing note! It used to remind me of iris and creamy like....could that be neroli?

Anyway fortunately for me that note you love was the note that spoilt it for me. It would smell kind of glue-y on my skin.

Therefore I really like the newer one. It does smell like the edp but lighter. I am testing the longevity and feel that on me this lasts just as long if not, then slightly longer than the previous one.

Red Rose

I tested this when it first introduces to the crowed & I remember not liking it much but now as I'm all grown up I'll give this another test in it's new bottle that is similar to the regular no.5 & I'll come back with an update.

aspirina

I have tried this perfume today, i was expecting a very beautiful fragrance..it's Chanel...i don't know if the tester they had in Belk had turned..i don't think so..since it was almost full.

The impression after i sprayed the perfume ..wow..indolic ..indolic...indolic..eau d' fart..i'm so sorry to give a bad review, but i can't smell anything else..just super indolic flowers! is it possible that this had a reformulation recently? i can't believe "that perfume" has almost no negative reviews...it has to be something odd with the tester or a reformulation..or..i just don't find the beauty in it.

Sorry.

Emma0714

I've always wanted to like Chanel no 5. There was something about it that made it intriguing. The history. The rumors. The icon that it has become. But I just couldn't do it whole-heartedly.

My grandmother had a bottle of the Eau De Toilette in her bedroom, and I used to sneak in and smell it everytime I visited. And play with her pearl necklaces. And silk flowers.

That bottle was from the eighties, and it was big and bold and all over the place.

And I just never managed to fill its shoes. But I knew I loved the luxury. The packaging, the black and gold, the logotype. Just lifting the cap of made me feel like this was luxurious.

I tried. And I gave up.

Until I was given the "Eau Premiere" version as a sample. And then I was stuck. I mean. Really stuck.

Aldehydes, Ylang Ylang. Soapy. Classic. Thick black lashes. Skin. A smile.

I feel like this was made for me. For us. The other generation. This feels like the grandchild of the Original No 5. Same genetics. But a future timeline.

Gorgeous and beautiful.

Timetoski

Raraavis - I agree COMPLETELY, in fact, I came to this site just for that reason. I felt it was different as well, having sprayed it on one arm with the original bottle formula on the other. More citrus in the original? More long lasting? i'm not sure, but they have definitely tweaked it.

one day at the store, i sprayed on the new premiere bottle on one arm and the chanel 5 edp on the other and they smelled indistinguishable.

Mellyhelly

I had to smell this reformulation of a 2007 perfume. To this point we are... It was masterpiece because it smelled its own way. It was not Chanel n.5, it was Eau Premiere.
Now this new version in a bottle identical to Edp really puzzled my opinion.
Same bottle... why? It makes a lot of confusion.
Different scent...why?
It smells pleasant and still a good one, but it lost special features of Eau Premiere and became a mere faint and bland version of Chanel 5.
It can still be worn with pleasure, this is not bad, but for that pricetag a faint version of latest Chanel 5 is an unfair strategy.
Basically very similar to old version but it lacks something... I'm not expert enough to say what it's missing here. I tried it and it smelled like Eau Premiere without a quid that made the old version a masterpiece. Maybe a high vibe neroli?
There is some mish-mash here, take away this, put this other inside. Replacement.
The scent is stronger at first and could make you think that they even made more concentrated, but longevity is shorter and the overall feeling is tamed and lacking.
It has become a nice "modern" one.
I will give it another try on different weather and mood.
Now, you can buy this one now (no choice, right?) and still be happy with it.
I will miss Eau Premiere but I doubt I will buy it again when my old version bottle will be finished.

Aspendina

i was really liking this but then it faded qutickly and left baby powder on me. I am not kidding straight up J&J baby powder smell and nothing else. And its not even listed as being powdery, go figure.

milkyway

I am convinced it smells differently depending on the weather!
When wearing this in the summer, I get a very strong bitter sweet ylang-ylang and jasmine, whereas the other notes all take a back seat..Interestingly, smelling like quite naturally with almost botanical properties that are normally a feature in natural perfumery.
Regardless of the "natural smell", it still smells like a top notch perfume for real ladies.
In the winter it smells completely different - flowery and aldehydic and perfume-y. My association might not ring a bell, but if crystals had a smell, i imagine that's how they would smell like.
It must be mentioned that the lasting power is not great in the summer, and to me the scent is much more alluring in the cold winter months.

marinaw90

It is definitely a very similar smell to the original, but brighter, and sweeter. It reminds me of sherbert oranges or the smell of an old fashioned sweetshop. I can't say I'm the biggest fan of the original, but this is definitely more up my street. It doesn't beat Coco Noir (my favourite Chanel) but it is a nice addition to my collection. I love that they've put it in the classic Chanel bottles, it makes it seem like a much more permanent fixture of the collection.

celestialstar19

This is a sparkling gentle elegant gem that has now captivated me. It is a subtle beauty that is charming and yet discreet. I find sexy while still being effortless. This is warm due to the vanilla while being simultaneously cool due to the aldehyde. It opens up with the citrus freshness and clean opening of the aldehydes the bergamot starts the show. Then evolving to its glorious flowers the ylang-ylang, roses, and jasmines are so well blended. To end up in its fine talcum powdery finally. I ran many tests on my skin because I was undecided between this and it's legendary perfume. The lasting power does not compare and it's projection is so mild that one really has to get intimate to recognize this. It does make you want to lean in and I still prefer this one because it is just cleaner more pristine. This lasts on my skin an average of 4 hours then randomly I get wafts and whiffs of this while at work throughout the day to remind me that it is still present. It also does last on my clothes for a long time and I love it. I find this to be romantic, and beautiful no matter the occasion.

Shwets

I was Oxford St (London) Boots yesterday when i spotted Eau Premier in the delightful classic bottle. I was tempted to spray knowing that the scent will either be the same as before or reformulated for the worse. But to my amazement it was intense/concentrated than before and lasted all night! Even my other half confirmed this was more intense. Please can you share your views if you notice similar.

IsabelVerh

While the original N°5 is almost cliché in it's sexiness, this one just smells like the little girls' version to me. I got a leftover from someone and I wear it sometimes, but I keep getting more disappointed in it.
Gets a lot of compliments though. Just don't expect any real grandeur.

EDIT: I just realized it's the powdery character that ruins this for me, I also despise N°19 Poudré but love the original. If you like powdery scents, this might just be wonderful for you.

Jillzilla

I adore this fragrance and love that they recently updated the bottle to match Chanel No.5, but I am disappointed that it went from $125 for 150ml to $130 for 100ml. As a consumer, I feel price-gouged. Now it's only 2/3 the amount for $5 more???! I should have bought it years ago!!

chrisndema

Lovely! Just lovely. This is perfect. I disliked the original, I found it too stale.....but this is a huge improvement IMO. Chanel has brought this frag to a new clientele that can better appreciate it.

beatrix75

I have been today at the trial of Chanel fragrances, I tested edp edt and premier the best on my skin was the premier oh my lord sooo good so expensive so chanel. definitely chanel 5 but much lighter and withatut the animalisc very strong odor of original i fall again in love actually i fall in love with premier every sommar but this time i bouth the 50 ml and i am happy to have this masterpice

goldiloks

This reminds me of certain older female family members. It is warm, soft, comforting, and elegant. A hug in a bottle.

Revontuli

Unbelievable how one's opinion might change about a fragrance (see my previous comment!). Eau Premiere lasts much longer on my skin than both the original EdP and EdT. I also find it much richer and feminine. I adore the powdery touch... And this is definitely not a "younger version of No 5": The original formula is not an "elderly" fragrance, so there can't be a "younger version". It's just an interpretation of it; maybe less complex but as wonderful as the original.

rosewithorns

In the beginning, I got a lot of aldehydes and the headache came not too long after. It smelled too mature for my age (early 20s), and I feared that this was yet another Chanel that wouldn't work on me. However, after a couple of hours, an amazing, cozy scent wafted up from my arms. I couldn't believe it was the same fragrance I had smelled a while ago. The drydown was perfectly warm and cozy, not what I had expected after its initial blast of aldehydes. I am more than happy to keep wearing this and willing to suffer a bit in the beginning for the wonderful rewards it eventually yields. Unfortunately, it did not last very long on me. I sprayed it on right after a late night shower, and by the next morning, it was barely detectable. It could be the weather, which shot up to 93 degrees today, although I'm not sure.

EternityFresh

Hello Chanel 5! Very nice indeed! For me Eau Premier is the very wearable #5. Albeit a little lighter, it's a fresher take on the original. I also love the vanilla dry down. I use the original #5 body lotion paired with this perfume and the combination is just right. It's great for summer but of course the original is always Queen!

iheartnumber5

This has been my signature scent since it was released and I continue to love it as much as the day I bought it. For me Eau Premiere is the perfect combination of fresh and comforting, modern and classic, professional and relaxed. I wear it year round as my daytime scent (layered over No. 5 body cream) and if I'm going out at night, will sometimes add a spritz of the classic No.5 on top for a little added luxury, mainly in the fall/winter, as that is my favorite time of year for No. 5.

A few other Chanel scents to consider if you love No. 5 Eau Premiere - No. 19 Poudre and Cristalle Eau Verte. I find both of these scents to have the same fresh, polished and yet comforting qualities that keep me coming back to the house of Chanel for more.

mynerva10

The elengancia made a perfume .. Classic, cool and perfect to feel unique and leave their scent every step ... With a powerful aldehydes, but nice, not as strong as the original N ° 5 ... Highly recommended Eau Premiere for those they like N°5 but can not tolerate all day ... on the contrary, this fragrance is very easy to use, fine and very distinctive presence .. with a touch that makes you feel fine, classic, friendly and stylish at all times of the day .. very long lasting!

thomasdegrave

They are coming out with a new bottle this year! it's the same as the original N5 EdP looks really nice

lollsazz

This is LOVELY! Just like the original Chanel no5, the different notes are blended very nicely, with no sharp edges. I therefore cannot say I can smell out far as many notes as the previous reviewer. The fragrance is... one of the most beautiful things I've ever smelt - it's very luxurious, sophisticated and cozy.

I will tell you a little story. When I was little, I always used my mom's makeup, although I wasn't allowed to. So, one of my mother's friends gave me some children's makeup. It had this amazing, powdery smell, which stuck with me for many, many years. I went through a big amount of powdery perfumes, but couldn't find anything that smelt quite like the makeup. The smell was powdery, but not like L'instant de Guerlain , not like Chance eau Tendre by Chanel, not like Flower by Kenzo... but like Eau Premiere. This smell might be so nice to me because it reminds me of my childhood, but it's also just very, very, very nice. The powder isn't the musky type that tickles your nose, it isn't the sharp type that makes you feel like you're breathing it in, it's not the sweet type that makes you think "bitter-sweet" - it's VERY soft, slightly flowery, very slightly soapy (the smell of the original no 5) and very slightly vanilla. To me, this is perfection! Sometimes, when a fragrance is modernized, it loses its charm - this is definitely not the case!

One thing though: even though some of the old Chanel no 5 continues to live in this, Eau Premiere is WAY different than the original, or at least to me it is, but the concept is the same: gentle, natural smell of a woman :)

The longevity is good, but the sillage is not strong. I can smell this on me after 10 hours, but only if I smell the skin directly. In general, this perfume does leave a trail of the beautiful powderiness and flowers, but it's not a long one. Also, you have to be a bit more careful when spraying this compared to the original no5, which I can almost bathe myself in without it being over the top in 10 minutes.

I could suggest trying this if you think the original no 5 needs slightly more sweetness, or slightly less soap. You can also try this if you like Dior Addict, but think it's much too strong

samlovefragrance

a nice interpretation of N.5... the colour of the juice and the bottle elegant's chanel lines says it all; pastel, elegant, refined but unpretentious. there is a delectable vanilla quality to eau premiere, makes my mouth water; but not gourmand or silly in any way.
the aldehydes are tinged with a neroli orange blossom accord, the florals are signature N.5 and the base is soapy and vanillic. i would have liked a bit more signature in the drydown though, it really moves far away from the original in that stage; but still compared to recent launches and terrible flankers of masterpieces, eau premiere is a lovely addition.

sillage: much better than N5 edt, almost similar to edp. moderate but beautiful and fresh for the first hour
longevity: moderate to good, more than 6 hours

EDIT: for the past six months i've fallen out of love with eau premiere, it's not aldehydic enough for a N.5 and the dry-down is just vanilla.

scent: 7/10
longevity: 6/10
sillage: 5/10

leda

I love the original No. 5 because of it's warm musky dry-down. I do not enjoy Eau Premiere as much because I dislike the powdery vanilla-musk base. If you like the modern powder/vanilla/musk perfumes, do give this a try as you'll probably find it enjoyable.

frag-overdose

To my nose,
N°5 Eau Premier
is sweeter than
N°5 EDT / EDP.
The initial is light, and airy,
and once it develops, it turns to
somewhat sweet, along with the vibrant
floral notes. The jasmine in Eau Premiere
smells fresh and dewy.

This is definitely not
the watered-down version
of Chanel N°5, Eau Premiere
comes in EDP concentration,
and that justifies its incredibly
exceptional silage and great longevity.

In Eau Premier, you could tell
the N°5 DNA is there, the subtle alteration made
it softer, lighter, yet retains its retro-vibe sensation,
giving the idea that N°5 is indeed an evergreen fragrance.
A must have in ones' collection.

kati77

So, how to say.......Chanel oh Chanel. Great clothes. Fabuolous ,but this perfume ...eh is not.
I tryed chanel mademoiselle ,allure sensuelle, allure edp and edt. And this one. Too much aldehydes, i can stand it in moderate amount but this,oh it just aldeh. and oil, oriental oil smell. Maybe its close to famous nr5 ,do know yet, i know i like allure edt, edp is nice orientalish vanilic, allure sensuelle no. Not my case.
So really as i see it now they have much better clothes ,make up ,but fragrances...just few is great. And some are overcommercialised.
Still...its an icon,i know. I respect that.

Arlene-Beatrix

Lighter and more wearable version of No 5 Chanel, more floral, even if aldehyde note can be smelled all the time.
I like it because I can smell soft jasmine and neroli very well, and these are flowers that I definitely like in moderate concentration.
If someone finds legendary Chanel No 5 too heavy, surely should try Eau Premiere.

Update: you must like aldehyde to be able to like it.

MandiPants85

This scent is not horrid or overpowering which I find of it's eau du parfum counterpart. However I believe I will only be wearing this 10 years down the road, in my 40's.

beauty_girl

All of you who thinks that this smells like the orignial, is it the same scent just no civet?
Because i sniff and think it is almost the same, just no civet, wich i thinks makes the scent, unfortunally. Let me know what you all think. I am corius to know.
Thanks.

aoikao

This parfume is comforting to me, a lovely smell.
I like wearing it to ballet classes sometimes, I put just a bit on inner arms and knees and I'm ready to dance.

Revontuli

Well... Somehow the Eau Premiere doesn't feel like Chanel to me. I tried it at the beauty store, got a sample and have been sniffing it but... I don't know, I can't get used to it. I go for the EdP and EdT.

Edit: Am I allowed to change my mind "completely"....? God, how could I make such a huge mistake as not to like this! Not because I find the original "unbearable", not at all. But this one's got a unique beauty and class as well, rosier and softer... Can't really choose one over another, they're all wonderful. Chanel...

Lucy Peach

Wrap yourself in luxurious Chanel No 5 body cream layered with a few sprays of Eau Premiere - and inhale!! Pure joy.

when i apply this i smell baby wipes.. powder ..and hmm babies.. new born babies.. clean skin..i smell my mother on that perfume..i dont understand how they call it sexual elixer.. its the total opposite of any thing sexual ..its pure...light..plain..simple..airy..angelic. ..its so soft ..its like a whisper..its so light..like a breath of air..its almost cloudy..its cold..almost dead..
so powdery..it smells like old make up powder..maybe the back stage of Marilyn Monroe make up room smelled like that..its so 50 ies..there is something in the very back maybe the aldehydes that make it special or memorable..in a discrete way...it s a skin scent it envelops your skin as a second skin it lays there as if you have applied powder plain white unscented powder with a hint of muskiness and aldehydes..softer ones..it turns in your skin and gives you a cloudy vail of hmmmmm i dont know is it sheerness..is it purity..its definitely something white..very white..very elusive..with a hint of lemon..i smell my grandfather in it too..it smells old in a nostalgic way..it has a heart tightening sensation about it in my heart..
its a fine simple french legend..that will stand the test of time..

perfume rating 4 out 5
bottle rating 4.4 out of 5
this review was about the no5 sensual elixir from the seductive collection
its not in the normal perfume alcoholic form. it feels like a viscous solution. its a pour out bottle edp perfume bottle ,that you open the cap and use it or pour it out on your pulse points.. it feels like a serum.. a heavy viscous composition that doesn't feel oily.. but is like light serum ..
its 50 ml
bought from bloomingdales..at about 100 us $
they always hide them inside counters and are not found easily always out of stock..they are like the hidden treasures that you have to hunt for..

Rawannnna

I am not into aldehyde, and never liked N 5, although I tested it on for years. but this one is a true masterpiece. This should be the true number five.
why? because its loud, seductive, naughty and classy.
The aldehyde note is not that sharp antic annoying soap-like one, rather, its a fresh and intoxicating note. the flowers blends in very nicely, you cant tell when the rose take over the perfume or when the vanilla appears, but its very harmonic and well-made product that will stay fresh on you all day.
This perfume is like having a shower, then dash into a full of roses garden. highly recommend. and don't be afraid it does not have a retro vibe at all.

Paintedlily

Eau Premiere opens with bright, sparkling aldehydes, citrus and powdered ylang ylang. 10 - 15 minutes later the citrus disperses, a soft rose develops and the aldehydes and powder come forward. This softens pretty quickly (around 30-45 minutes) into mostly floral and powder with the once sparkling aldehydes now a shimmer in the background. It has a very floral/soapy feeling, very fresh and clean as if you just stepped out of the shower.
Sillage is moderate at around arms length and lasting power seems moderate at around 4-6 hours.
Overall, this is a beautiful fragrance. At times the aldehydes and powder can be a bit much, but it's still lovely. It has a fresh out of the shower feeling...very floral soap and dressing powder and a little champagne.

ledavis727

While you can tell that this perfume shares the same DNA of the original Chanel No. 5, it is its much more shy, ethereal sister. It is much more powdery and muted, with a lemon-y opening. Lots of vanilla and ylang-ylang follow the citrus burst gradually settling down into a woody-sweet scent that makes me think of crisp spring mornings. It is very bright and much more transparent than No. 5, and a lot less aldehydic, but the relation is still there. Unfortunately after about 2 or 3 hours, it is gone. I sprayed some of my mothers No. 5 Eau de Toilette on one wrist and Eau Premiere on the other, and while after hours of work and a shower the EDT was still going strong, the Eau Premiere just couldn't keep up. But for some reason I felt more drawn to the Eau Premiere; perhaps just because the lighthearted smell of every stage made up for the weak lasting power. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a giant 5oz tester so this scent will be sticking around for a while, and honestly.. I have no problem with that. Definately a great spring scent, and perfect for when you need a lift in your day, or night.

sobachka_Zhuzha

Ordered a sample of this on ebay, and it is my first Chanel No 5 experience. The scent is lovely, but it disappears within an hour :( Sits very close to the skin too. Will have to explore other versions of No 5.

Lycie

I simply adore this. I have been using this every night after bathing. At first I smell a citrus burst, then it goes into a soft flowery scent. Finally I smell a touch of vanilla. Not the sweet kind of vanilla in other perfumes but a nice warm cozy scent. I find it to be such a comforting perfume that I love going to sleep with it. I will not be without this.

9-na

That’s what resolute (in a good way) grace with nice manners and a calm, gentle smile would be like, I think, if grace had a scent. Eau Première started out on my skin as nice lemon juice, squeezed out of the lemon a second ago. Gradually it became somewhat sweeter. And then it was gone, its place taken by semitransparent, beautiful jasmine powder, getting to know rose powder, just as beautiful and semitransparent. Then it was sandalwood time, with a drop of vanilla. I enjoyed wearing Eau Première.

risarii

When Ernest Beaux, the original nose behind Chanel No. 5, was making the original perfume, he wished to capture the scent of the white, snowy, icy landscape he saw during his time in Arkangelsk, Russia, and the aldehydes he used were said to be of "a melting winter note".

To me, N°5 Eau Premier is truer to that original desire than any other formulation of the legendary fragrance. It's crisp and fresh like the arctic and is very "white". Mr. Polge has done a marvelous job at recreating the original. It's magnificently feminine and extremely beautiful. It's crisp and clean but there's something about it that makes it quite sensual as well. I would name it my favorite version of N°5 by far, even though, despite being barely 20 years old, I really like both the EDP and the EDT. (I have not tried the Elixir.)

I think this is a very sophisticated, beautiful perfume that is perfect year-round and, despite smelling very luxurious and "rich", suitable for every day and any occasion. It can add a bit of glamour to your day no matter what you're doing.

Ernest Beaux, describing the art of making a perfume: "It is like writing music. Each component has a definite tonal value ... I can compose a waltz or a funeral march"

Chanel N°5 Eau Premiere is most definitely a waltz.

Bravo, Monsieur Jacques Polge.

Egyptian Goddess

i am in love with this. it is fizzy champagne and just oozes classiness. i wanted to try both gucci eau premiere and N5 premiere and the gucci one just evaporated and could barely smell anything (a lot of reviewers said the same thing) but i can still smell the 5 eau premiere hours and hours later. it is a cozy type of scent without being too sweet or nauseating. I only wish Chanel cared about gift sets around the holidays, it seems as though no thought is put into it, only sets i have seen is coco m and original 5. Is it that hard to put a few gift sets out, maybe like 5 premiere with a smaller bottle (for travel)or even a soap included in a gift set or even #19 in a set, or how about a gift set for chance eau tendre or something???? I don't understand that at all.

fundi

I feel the same nawele5!!!

pure beauty.......

So wonderful. Close to original, so if you like that one, great. If not. Also great. You can still like this. Its modern and beautiful, I have listed this as my number one wish for christmas. It stays put as well, I have washed today and I can still (faintly) smell it on my hand. Chanel no 5, truly the queen of fragrances.

nawele5

i finally got this and i just can't stop using it every day, i was really amazad by the soft powdery floral notes in it, so classy and enveloping fragrance, love it

Mimielle

My previous sig, still a favorite. Sweeter, lighter, easier than the more serious versions of No 5 to slip into and wear for everyday but still refined, lovely and complex. It lasts on me but the overall tone is indeed a lighter impressionist interpretation of No 5. I love to smell all the versions but this one I can wear any day or on my birthday, in any season, to bed with intent or for just no reason at all. It is effortless elegance, which I love! Everyone should have a perfume that makes them feel this way, no matter if they love variety or are loyal to just a few.
My first fragrance was Chloe, then I stole a boyfriend's Grey Flannel and switched it up with Lauren. White Linen freshened an endless number of stale desert summers.
As a grown woman, I chose Fendi and wore it for over a decade, then for a long time, single or blended natural floral and herbal oils. Now this fragrance will take a rest, I have moved into the Guerlinade to pick violets.

kayraven

I was just lying in my bed looking through a mag when I understood that there's something nearby smelling irresistible sexy. I started searching and discovered a sample of this new fragrance. It smells amazing! Just like the old classical one, just fresher and much lighter. I can't really get along with the classic №5 cause it's far too strong, but this one seems perfect. Also the bottle is simply gorgeous! It's elegant, simple, chic and sleek. The only disadvantage of the fragrance is the staying power, a little less than average. Wish it would last longer!

Amparo Noir

I tried this days ago at the Chanel counter,
written at the back of the tester bottle: 'a new olfactory interpretaion' I agree to that 100%,
yet this is an EDP too...

but this smells lighter and fresher and lasts all day.

AlexandraM19

Much more preferable to the original No.5

I get light jasmine, ylang-ylang, and soft lemon. It's fresh and light; my mom wears it and she always gets compliments.

Antares811

This is my second post too. I use it on my clothes, my scarves, in winter, when I wear Chanel No5 EDP (a spray on the back of the neck).
Both together are absolutely divine.
No doubt, Jacques Polge is my favorite nose!

SayakaP

This is my second posting. I bought a bottle.

Opening is Sweet Lemony, rather than Aldehydic.
Untill it mellows down, it gives me lovely, fizzy feeling on my skin.
I know that those who hate No.5 are put off by the first blast of Aldehyde...so, "sweet lemon instead of icy Aldehyde" makes Eau Premiere more likable to many, I guess.
It's still there though, just enough to satisfy a hardcore No.5 lover like me.

Eau Premiere is as powderly & floral as original.
Significantly less Vetiver (soap scent), a lot more Vanilla.
There's no animal scent here.

I've been using No.5 bath soap in cooler season & shower gel in warmer season.
Soap is the heaviest, obviously sexy one among the family. Sandalwoody & spicy (my husband uses the soap... Quite masculine on his skin after bath!)
Shower gel is super Aldehydic and Ylang Ylang dominant.

Chanel No.5, is like a musical tune sang by all these different instruments.
Parfum, EDT, EDP, EP & bath line... each has different texture in their voice but singing one same melody.
Eau Premiere is simply, but beautifully whistled Chanel No.5.
I can whistle along and smile.

I love this one!

This perfume was my 'trainingwheels' until I understood Chanel 19. I know, it is suppose to be the daughter of Chanel no 5... but for some reason the sparkling and citrusy beginning complete with the musky and flowery heart, really got me to understand and appreciate Chanel no 19! Or rather, got me to stay long enough to experience Chanel no 19's heart, which is a lovely powdery and (to me) soapy iris. Love love love. And all thanks to you, little Eau Première.

I've been using No.5 EDP for years.
Got this Eau Premiere tester (2mil spray) from the Chanel counter and tried it yesterday.

This is BRILLIANT!

Take EDP, reduce the soap smell and add more vanilla. That's EP.
From the beginning it goes straight to the mellow middle of EDP and stay there. Lovely.
It lasted all day, too. Lasts longer than EDP on me.

EDP, to me, is perfect. So I don't know how Eau Premiere can be as good as EDP when it's modified one. But it is so.
It's bubbly, vivacious & relaxed...

I'll probably buy a bottle soon.

I never could get into No 5. Always ended up smelling like tarnish on my skin. There was that "one note" I craved more of, but it never became pronounced, until now. Premiere is "it" -- the best part of 5, amplified. This is my daily feel-pretty-but-go-to-work-in-a-corporate-world-of-fluorescent-lights smell... It is faint and delicate enough to wear lavishly at work without offending, but it doesn't disappear like a delicate, girly frag. Well done!

To me this is a lighter more powdery version of the original. But somehow aldehydes are more prominent in this one(at least to my nose). I am not really a huge fan of the original(I don't hate it but its just not for me)...this one makes me picture elegant older woman, dressed in Hermes or Chanel lol...I don't see this as young scent...there is too much aldehydes and powder in this
I will be honest...to me original smells more modern than this...just my opinion

Eau de moi

I have to admit that I prefer this one over the original Chanel #5. Same basic juice without the extra useless notes. And less the migraine that accompanies the wear of the original Chanel #5. I consider buying it very seriously.

First spray I smell combination of some aldehydes and citrus. After that ylang ylang and a combination of light neroli and light rose. In the drydown I could smell more of light vanilla.

This is very powdery, I feel like I'm surrounded by talcum powder. Could be a comfort scent but not exciting.

Soft projection like half an hour and after that stay very close to the skin. Stay longer on clothes. I have to spray every two hours or smell my skin to detect it.

To sum up, it is a soft elegant and powdery scent.

Amalmarri

elegant fresh ( tolerated to my taste) and bright soapy powdery scent.
stays close to the skin and disappear quickly .for me its morning or day time scent. will not repurchase again as I prefere other long lasting and good sillage chanel fragrance.
